Season 8-11 reactions:
Big batch this time bc I keep forgetting to write/post my reactions after finishing a season ANDNC
Season 8:
Alright so I know this one comes after the movie, and even if I didn’t know that…itsveryobviousAHAHA
I have to say right off the bat, it was a lil weird to see their movie designs with their show VAs. Lloyd is fine, I honestly rlly like the change both design-wise and voice, I feel like his new voice suits him (and I rlly didn’t like his old VA im so sorry askhvsdf)-- but the others have taken a bit of getting used to. I like the movie designs in the context of the movie but they feel a lil out of place in the show given that the movie isn’t canon. Feels like clashing timelines a bit (and why do Nya and Pixal have the same hair now? Give nya back her fuckass bob /aff) but it has grown on me, and overall I like the aesthetic changes.
I fucking called the baby being Wu too but maybe that was obvious AHAHA as soon as they mentioned him liking tea I was like “iknowwhatyouare” and then they confirmed it for me pretty quick
The harumi twist however I didn’t rlly see coming, other than knowing there was something more about her that they hadn’t revealed… I can't say I fully understand the logic of her motivations (revenge, sure, but shouldn't that be against the serpentine, not the ninja? Or even pythor specifically?) But yk its fiiiine I mean after all as long as Garm comes back i'm fine w it AHAHA
and gODDD HIS ENTRANCE IS SO AHDNCNEKCKKDNC AUGHH IM RIPPING UP THE FLOORBOARDS GARMS BACK GARMS BACK GARMS BACK MY BABYGIRL HAS RETURNED FROM WAR (SORTA) i cannot overstate how excited I am this shit had me running around my room like a madman PFNDNFND
Also okay i know hes not rlly his old self but im very invested in how this pure-evil form works and what he does and the angst that's already ensued is so MMMMCHEFS KISS GIVE ME MOREEEE
Its so interesting to see him do the things he never would have even as overlord before, like fight lloyd and misako, and that cliffhangery ending has me immediately needing to see where this goes
Season 9
I forgot to take notes on this one but honestly I didn't have a whole lot to say– I liked it, I thought it was interesting. The realm of dragons was cool. The moments where Garm hesitates is so aUGHHHHHHH but also mixed w the fact that he literally kills ppl??? God. Its so interesting. I could just talk about him specifically forever
The whole harumi-being-his-daughter thing was….odd, but I gotta say her ending was very apt and satisfying AHDNCN sorry harumi but ur motives didn't make sense so ofc history is gonna repeat itself
Dareth….oh buddy. AHAHAHAHAHA not him getting Brown Powers then immediately pissing them out im– and the "brown town" joke? StoP AHAJAHAHAH I rlly had a moment where I thought he was gonna have a lil arc where he learns to fight better but ofc notttt
I am glad they at least acknowledged the existence of & utilized some of the other elemental masters tho
And I liked the end where Lloyd had to literally Not Fight His Dad in order to win against him. Its so *chefs kiss*
Season 10
For a four-episode season, my expectations were very low and they blew it out of the park. Surprisingly good pacing, plus so many amazing Garmadon and Lloyd moments i sobbbb. It's so nice to see this version of Garm finding his humanity and struggling with that and trying to understand the others & understand himself and the confliction inside and aughhh. Like, the fact that he's a husk of his former self but still saves Lloyd at every opportunity? He tries to mirror smiles bc his was "evil looking"? He looks wistfully at the photo of him and lloyd when no ones around?? The oni at the end telling him they sense "confliction" in him and they can tell he wants to be like the humans??? My heart. Also I totally see why ppl ship him and Vinnie, like, immediately AHAHA that whole scene is so sweet and funny which seems to be a theme for this season. It somehow manages to be hilarious but also so bittersweet and emotional, esp bc its paralleling the early season where Garm spends time on the bounty while helping the ninja. And the way they brought back the tornado of creation and Garm decided to be part of it bc he was worried Lloyd would die otherwise???? AUGHHHHH.
I'm also honestly glad they let the ending be ambiguous as to what was gonna happen to Garmadon rather than rushing a character arc right at the end. Overall one of my fave seasons (and I'm sure no one is surprised) despite it being so short. (Also I got the comic series that came after this season and its so good)
Season 11
Okay so. I knew going into this one that this season was where it got picked up by another studio, so i was bracing myself for a lil bs, but like...I had so many questions immediately. Which, if you're familiar with my blog, you might already know, bc after watching 2 eps I asked The Audience if it "gets better"– Luckily folks were able to dissuade most of my worries and it did, in fact, get better, but the first few eps were rough. They def took a bit to get settled into the 11min ep format, and I did too. I also just didn't like how they started it with them being bored, lazy, incompetent, etc, and with Wu being so cranky. I don't like Wu in this season for the most part honestly but he does get better too. On future rewatches I'll skip the first four-ish eps (and that anime one…. Ohmygod what was the point of that AHAHA honestly idk why the 2d animation was necessary at all, even when it was used for lore reasons. The human hands….cursed)
it def settled and felt more like what I'd expect from the show. There were plenty of good moments and I liked the ice section a lot– surprisingly, I didn't call Zane being the ice emperor, idk how but that moment was mind blowing to me PFFT
Overall I enjoyed it with those few exceptions in the beginning hehe so I'm interested to see where they take it from here
Ninjago: Masters of Spinjitzu first watch
Finally started watching masters of spinjitzu (yes, I watched the movie before the show) and I'm gnawing on the floorboards like a rabid animal RAHHH
I wanted to start a thread to share some of my thoughts and reactions as I watch, for anyone that wants to hear 'em or to live vicariously through a new fan hehe
○ Note: I don't care too much about spoilers given that its an old show I've already gotten plenty of spoilers for, but I'd appreciate it if you kept big stuff vague in my comments! Also, there will be spoilers in this thread for any other first time watchers.
Pilot– s1 ep 13:
Okay so my expectations going into this was that it was going to be different from the movie, given how people talk about it online. Honestly I wasn't prepared for how different, but like– in a good way? I really love it so far, and also still love the movie (esp Garmadon), which is probably a byproduct of having seen it with zero context first. Ik a lot of ppl dont like the movie or have crits of it and that's very valid, but I'm really enjoying both of them for their differences.
Some rapid fire thoughts in no particular order (might be more organized next time):
- I really like how much development they're giving each ninja, that was something the movie def lacked.
- I had no idea what spinjitzu was and i was not expecting Ninja Tornados but i fuckinglovethatAHAHA
- Zane is my favorite ninja so far. I loved him in the movie too but the reveALLLL GOD. That was something I was spoiled for but it still hits so hard. Hes so me when I (love me some autism-coded robots). Honestly tho I rlly like the whole cast !!
-I mistakenly thought Nya and Jay were the siblings in the movie bc the dialogue rlly wasn't clear to me, but uh– yeahno AHAHAHA OOPS theyre cute though
-show!lloyd is.... growing on me! Slowly! I know he's got a long way to go and I'm sure he'll get there but his first few appearances was a lil whiny for my tastes. The fact that he's trying to follow in garms footsteps tho and garm doesnt want him too?? aUGH i love their whole dynamic so much.
- the fact that garmadon pronounces lloyd properly throws me all the way off cuz I'm so used to L'loyd PFFT
-I also didn't put it together that Lloyd Garmadon is meant to sound similar to Lord Garmadon. Idk how but it took someone literally saying it in an ep for me to realize
-I love how clear it is that garmadon cares for lloyd and would do literally anything for him but also the angst of him being infused w evil and knowing lloyd is destined to defeat him???? WHILE STILL BEING PROUD OF HIM??? unmatched. I love that so much
-I also just love garmadon's whole vibe but thats to be expected. Much less silly so far (with a few expections) but he's so interesting. I wish they did a lil more with his backstory in the movie. Imso brainrot over him
Anyway thats all for now I'll share more thinks as I watch hehehe
