6, 11 and 16 for sol? 👀👀
thank you for the ask! :3
6. How (if at all) does your character change over the course of their story?
When he first woke up in Goodsprings he was lost and confused and more scared than he would have admitted, even to himself. He wants to help people, but his sense of justice is overwhelming and leads him to doing things he is horrified with (example: killing the majority of the powder gangers before they’d even made a move on Goodsprings just because a *few* were planning a raid).
He actively works at improving in that regard and he really does get better with it. Arcade and occasionally Boone help, but I would give Sol the majority of the credit there.
Also, his focus in the beginning wasn’t on killing Benny or getting the chip back, it was on getting his memories back. He was unable to accept the idea that he is anything more than the ghost of someone else, a placeholder until that other person comes back. But they don’t and there comes a point when he chooses to let go of his old self and accept that he, as Sol, is a whole ass person in his own right. He knows what his past is, more or less, but doesn’t remember it so he is able to let go of some of that fear a confusion from the beginning. It doesn’t help the guilt about his past crimes tho nor does it remove the trauma he’s been saddled with over events he can’t remember :/
There is a lot of minor character growth in terms of self acceptance and allowing other people to get to close to him. He is just generally a happier, more stable person by the time he leaves the Mojave (not permanently, just as in he goes back to traveling)
11. How patient is your character? What will they tolerate in others? What won't they tolerate?
He is generally an extremely patient person, both in terms of actual time spent waiting and with other people. I think otherwise he and Boone wouldn’t have been able to continue working together lol. He has a high tolerance for stuff that is annoying or that personally upsets him, but in terms of immoral actions he won’t let very much slide. You can be a dick to him and he’ll grit his teeth and bear it (tho he might be passive aggressive about it). If you’re hurting other people because you don’t know any better (e.g. young legionaries) he is willing to give you the chance to learn and improve. This also goes for those who are actively working to become better people (recognition of self in the other…). But if you are purposefully doing things to hurt others he has absolutely zero tolerance for it.
16. What is your character's greatest strength? Their fatal flaw?
Hmmm. I’m going to say his drive for greatest strength. It is difficult to find any other word to encompass the little things that add up to his strengths. But I suppose overall, he wants to make the Mojave a better place, to get justice for everyone the Legion and NCR and House have screwed over. To get justice for himself and the person he used to be. Nothing and no one is going to stop him from doing what he thinks is right in those terms. He will wear himself to the bone to ensure that other people are safe. He feels hopeless a lot and like he can’t possibly be the savior they need, but is driven to just keep going, if not for his own sake then for theirs.
I would say his fatal flaw is mostly an extension of that, which is his lack of self worth. It gets in the way of him seeing what needs to be done and it almost stopped him from taking over the Mojave (temporarily) because as bad as the NCR is, he was terrified that he’d be worse, either by incompetence or by losing himself to the allure of power. He doesn’t trust himself and it gets in the way and puts him into situations where he is willing to die for far too little because it never occurs to him that if he is killed that not only his (chosen) family would suffer but that the Mojave would as well.
