Pumpkin Spice and Everything Nice
Written for The Break Room's Halloween Bingo (Detroit Become Human). I joined the prompts:
Simon - Werewolves - Pumpkin Spice - Sleepy
A cold wind blows through Detroit, whispers of the coming winter dragged along with it. Leo pulls his coat tight against the feeling, his cheeks red as he fast-walks toward the bus stop. He hates when his shifts run long knowing what is waiting for him at home. The streets are empty this late at night, and he's alone at the bus stop. A shiver runs through him and he rocks from his toes to his heels, rubbing his hands together, hoping some movement will create a bit of heat.
He only has to wait a few minutes, but it's apparently enough time to bring company. From around a corner shuffles a person in a raggedy long jacket. Leo knows the type. Leo was the type not too long ago. He steadies himself for the approach, cursing himself for not just looking away.
The man comes over and grins, teeth stained yellow and brown, cheeks pocked, and skin sallow. "Got any cash man?"
Leo clears his throat and shakes his head. "Nah, sorry. Just getting off a shift. Ain't got shit on me, man."
He doesn't move, just looks Leo up and down. "Wait...don't I know you?"
"Nah. Never seen you." Except he might have seen him before, during one of his drug-fueled trips through the bowels of Detroit. He doesn't want to be recognized as that person anymore. Not since...him.
The man gives him one more look over then moves on, shambling down the street in search of the next fix. Leo shivers again, but not from the cold this time. That could have been Leo if he'd never met —
Leo's stomach ached along the scar lines, stitches not fully dissolved yet. His face was still bruised, but he'd been given the go-ahead to leave. He'd mostly healed from his tussel with Markus at his father's. Not that he knew where to go. He'd lost the apartment, was out of money, and didn't dare show up at his father's house. Not after that damned werewolf and his fucking revolution.
It had been Leo's fault, he knew, but he couldn't admit it. He just needed to find someplace to stay that wouldn't tempt him back to drugs. Anywhere he could squat was bound to have people he knew, and they'd all be carrying.
As Leo turned a corner, he ran into something solid. No, not quite solid. It gave even as it was enough to make him stumble back. And it spoke.
"Ah, excuse me. I'm sorry," the solid thing said.
Leo found himself looking at a man with blond hair and such a soft fucking look on his face. But the eyes. They shined in just that way that he knew. Werewolf. Leo froze, swallowing thickly as he found himself stuck in place, unable to flee or fight. After what Markus had done to him, he did not have the desire to be so close to one of them again so soon. And this one, he knew his face.
"You're Simon," he said dumbly.
"Ah...yes, I am." The werewolf reached up to tug his scarf around-- a nervous movement perhaps? "I didn't mean to run into you. I'll just...are you okay?"
Are you okay, he had asked. Leo smiles at the memory as he steps onto the bus. If he hadn't run into Simon when he had, he isn't sure where he'd be right now. Perhaps still lost in some drug den. Perhaps just a body for his father to find down the road.
The bus ride isn't long, thankfully, and Leo can push those terrible thoughts away. As soon as it stops, Leo practically runs from it and toward the rattly stairs up to the apartment he shares with Simon. The place is small, and the entry is on the outside up a pair of shitty stairs, but it's theirs. He struggles a moment to get the lock open, his hands cold and shaking.
"Leo?" Simon calls from the bedroom as soon as he steps inside.
"Yeah, I'm home!" Leo kicks his shoes off and shrugs his jacket onto the standing jacket and hat rack Simon had insisted on.
As Simon steps into the main room, Leo rushes over and buries himself against his boyfriend. Simon wraps his arms around him, nose tucking into his neck and inhaling deeply. "You're freezing, Leo!"
"Yeah, it's fucking cold outside," he huffs against Simon's chest. He loves their height difference, loves feeling like he can lose himself in the taller man and feel safe. He feels Simon press a kiss to the top of his head and hum quietly.
"Go get into your sweats. I'm going to make something to warm you up." Simon steps away and pushes him back toward the bedroom, swatting him on the ass as he goes by.
Leo rolls his eyes, but he goes, already missing the warmth that the werewolf radiates. He sheds his clothes into a laundry basket, then fishes out his warm sweats and a sweatshirt. When he comes back out, Simon is in the kitchen getting out his coffee things. Leo grins, knowing exactly what he's putting together for them.
Stepping up behind him, Leo wraps his arms around the man and puts his forehead between Simon's shoulder blades. "Pumpkin spice?"
"Mhm. It's autumn; is there any other drink?" Simon chuckles.
"Too bad we don't have a pumpkin pie to go with it."
Simon freezes in his movements, thinking too loudly even without speaking.
Leo squeezes him and says, "No, you're not leaving now. We'll get pie later. I want you tonight more than I want some stupid pie."
"Alright, but I'll have one for you tomorrow then."
"Deal." Leo steps back so Simon can finish his task unhindered. Taking up his usual spot at the end of the kitchen counter, Leo leans against it, folding his arms over his chest.
He watches Simon as he moves through the process of coffee-making. Leo loves the man in ways he never thought he could. Even more surprising is that he's fallen in love with a werewolf after everything that had happened. And one who had stood by Markus's side for the revolution.
"Simon?" It's stupid, it's impulsive.
"Yeah hun?"
"Would you marry me?"
The sound of a mug smashing into the counter and rolling off to the floor is the response. Simon jumps back and Leo jolts from his leaning.
"Oh shit," Simon says as he turns to look at Leo. "I-- would I--" He looks at the mug, in pieces on the kitchen floor. "Marry? Yes! Of course, I would. You mean, I mean, was that a proposal or just a question?"
Leo shrugs. "Um," he crouches to start picking up the pieces of the mug. Simon kneels with him, holding out his hand to take the pieces from Leo. "I guess it was a proposal."
"You guess?" Simon raises an eyebrow, his eyes a sharper blue than normal as he looks over Leo like he's looking for something crazy in him. "Leo, you're an absolute crazy person. That's how you propose?"
Leo chuckles as they grab the last of the broken mug and stand back up. "I didn't plan it that way. It just kinda happened."
Simon shakes his head, tossing out the pieces, then turns to fully look at Leo. He grabs him by the hips and pulls him into a kiss. "Of course I'll marry you."
"Good," Leo manages to murmur against Simon's lips.
They stay wrapped together until the electric kettle clicks. Then Simon pulls away reluctantly and finishes their coffee. As much as Leo just wants to cling to Simon, he knows that cuddling on the couch will be even better, so he grabs a couple of drink coasters and heads to the living room.
As he turns around, Simon joins him with two mugs in hand. He sets them down, and they both climb onto the couch together. Simon likes to recline against the arm and wrap his arms around Leo, and the smile that comes over him when Leo tucks up against him is enough to make Leo eternally happy to do so. He clambers up, tucking his head under Simon's chin, and just soaks up his heat.
"That's so much better already," he murmurs.
"Long day?"
"Mm. Like you wouldn't believe." Leo sighs. "Hey, remember when we first met?"
Simon nods, rubbing a hand up and down Leo's back. "Yes. You smelled like fear. I much prefer your scent now."
Leo chuckles. "That's so weird."
"Stop picking on the wolf."
Leo sits up enough to grab his drink and take a tentative sip. It's not too hot. "So, what do I smell like then?"
"Warmth." Simon gestures for his own cup and Leo hands it to him. "There's the faint smell of leather from your work boots and clothes. Metal. But mostly, home. Our laundry soap, and you have a natural sort of citrus-like scent underneath it all."
"I smell like citrus?"
"Mm sort of. Closest I can equate the smell to."
Leo shakes his head and takes another sip. "Still weird." He puts both their mugs down and cuddles back up. "I'm tired. I hope you didn't have any big plans for us tonight because I feel like I'm about to pass out."
"That's fine, hun." Simon passes his fingers through Leo's hair and plants a kiss at his forehead, along the hairline. "I'm happy to just cuddle and let you get some rest."
Leo feels a blush as he wants to ask his next question. Though they've been together for months now, he still feels nervous requesting things in relation to Simon's werewolf side. "Can we...do you want to shift-cuddle tonight?"
Simon chuckles. "Sure. After our drinks, why don't we go to bed and do that."
Leo can't believe he's fallen in love with a werewolf, not after everything that's happened. But he can't think of anyone else he would rather spend his life with now. "Thanks."
They drink their drinks slowly, and Leo feels him getting closer to falling asleep.
"Hey, wake up. Come on you can't stay out here."
There was an incessant pushing on Leo's shoulder that he couldn't ignore. He had just fallen asleep with the help of a hit. The pain had finally faded and he'd been able to sleep despite the biting chill of winter. Who the fuck was waking him up from this.
He rolled over and saw a pair of bleary blue eyes. That man, Simon, from days ago. He frowned and stared up confused.
"Wha..."
"I could smell you as I passed by. You lied to me the other day."
Leo had told him he was okay, that he was going home. Of course, the werewolf didn't know he didn't have a home anymore. Home was wherever Leo ended up, so had he really been lying?
"Sorry." He didn't know why he was apologizing.
"Can you stand?"
Leo struggled to even sit, a shiver running through him and setting off the shakes again. He wrapped his arms around himself and fell back to the floor with a groan of pain. "Fuck off, man. I'm not your problem."
Simon growled and Leo flinched back, waiting to be attacked for his attitude. That didn't happen though. Instead, the man pulled his jacket off and stripped down. Leo stared, confused. And then Simon shifted in a twisting of body into a large white wolf.
Leo would have run if he'd had the strength. Instead, he just welcomed death by wolf and laid there.
And that did not happen either. Instead, that big fluffy wolf curled around him and relaxed his head across Leo's middle. He was so warm that Leo was drawn unbidden against him, seeking his warm fur with his frozen nose. Maybe he would actually survive the night, get yet another chance at life.
"Leo, wake up. Let's go to bed." Simon's voice is soft at his ear, lips pressing a kiss to his cheek. "Come on. I'll carry you if I have to."
"I'm up," Leo manages. He stretches out his achey body and slowly sits up. Simon's hand is at his back to help him stay upright.
They make their way to the bedroom, and Simon gets Leo under the blankets. He watches him strip down and knows what's next.
No matter how many times he watches Simon shapeshift, Leo is always amazed. It looks a bit uncomfortable, but Simon assures him it's not. Soon, where a naked Simon was standing there is now a huge, beautiful, white wolf. His blue eyes are brighter and more sapphire in their hue but still undeniably Simon.
Leo shifts on the bed to make room, holing up the sheets, and Simon climbs into bed with him. He gets comfortable and then Leo clings to him, burying himself in the soft, warm fur.
"Perfect," he murmurs and finds himself fading to sleep, the worries of life melting away.
Leo is lucky to have found Simon. He's been given one final chance at life. He does not intend to mess this chance up.

This is so adorable I'll cryyy hbsjfk, cuties,,, all of these are perfect tysm for the scenarios, my serotonin dose for the next month I swear
Hello Chill!! ( ◜∀◝ )ノ♡ Love your animutant au very much (if you couldn't tell) and wanted to know what everyone's reaction to getting to go outside for a while would be! If they just got a day or two to have a picnic, take a walk in the park, go swimming, or even experience certain weather conditions like rain or snow (I think some winter shenanigans with snowball fights and sledding would be super fun) it'd be nice to see how they'd react! They can have their beach episode /j
Helloo Jayy<3 thank youu!
I don't know if this is a spoiler (?) but they will get to see the world outside the Pizzaplex after the first Arc! Which means they'll be met with a lot of different types of weather conditions, (though, the fear of the apocalypse doesn't probably let them enjoy the outdoors as much as they'd like to).
But! I'll give you an imaginary scenario, let's just imagine they get to go out on a snowy day on a regular daily life without the apocalypse (I'll also include Solar since he seems to be a fan favourite):
Sunrise: Thinks snow is pretty, but cold. Shivers a lot like a chihuahua (he doesn't tolerate cold very well, as mentioned in the story), but he doesn't complain. He is more excited than anything. Tries to build a snowman, do sledging, or join a snowball fight. So much fun! Enjoys the aftermath cuddles with Moon and a cup of hot chocolate.
Moondrop: Fussing over Sun, trying to keep him warm by constantly fixing his scarf or something. Doesn't particularly like snow, but is a master at dodging in the snowball fight. Might climb into a tree and shake all the snow on Monty. Looks after Solar's idiocy in disbelief.
Freddy: Likes snow, probably makes a snowbeard on himself and impersonates Santa. Throws the biggest snowballs and probably helps Sunrise with the snowman.
Bonnie: Excited. So many things to do! Who cares if the snow is cold! Tries sledging, skiing, snowboarding, skating, you name it-. Is probably the one who starts the snowball fight.
Monty: Likes snow, but doesn't admit it. "Cannonballs" Sun and Freddy's snowman. Barks like a dog to Moon on the tree. Tries to convince someone to let him roll them into a snowball and then down the hill (Sun almost says yes but Moon intertwines...) Uses his tail to his advance in the snowball fight.
Roxanne: As long as the snow doesn't touch her face, everything is cool. Looks gracious while doing anything; snowboarding, sledging, skating. Starts a race with everything: who's the first one at the bottom of the hill?
Chica: Just as excited as Bonnie. Wants to try everything- Falls on her face while skating and gets a beak booboo. Roxy kisses it better. Loves the aftermath of hot cocoa and treats more than anything.
Foxy: Digs the snow like a dog trying to find his "treasure" (that doesn't exist). Licks his hook by accident at some point and gets his tongue stuck on it. Captains the snowball fight (but no one knows whose side he is on...)
DJMM: Goes mlem mlem mlem on the snow thinking it's a new type of treat and has to be taken back inside.
Solar: Complains. Takes his shoes and socks off and walks on the snow barefoot. Builds a little snowman that looks like Sunrise and carries it around like it's his baby. Goes lay in the middle during the snowball fight to get the most hits on himself. Probably gets a cold as an aftermath.
#sun really is just like me fr#chihuahua gang#they're so cute your honor#may I suggest... cuddle pile#absolutely cuties#he fixes his scarf... I'm in shambles....#ALSO CHICA AND ROXY CONTENT ILYSM FOR INCLUDING THEM 🥲 GIRLFRIENDS#I'm not super invested in Bonnie content but he's so precious here help#Monty is a certified MENACE#sudden need for ice skater Roxanne actually#solar /derogatory#who let this convict walk free#the real menace here methinks#these are all so cute thank u again <3333#they all live in my head rent free

[Note: Mah poor bb.]
A skeleton with a gaping hole in his skull sat deep inside the castle, inside a spacious chamber. It was Score, yet another skeleton employed by Nightmare. It is unknown why he is working with such a man. He appears to be working on something; I'm curious what it is. "Where is that needle?" he pondered, looking around the shambles on the table in front of him. He sat on a stool, his legs crossed over it. He kept hunting until he found an upholstery needle shaped like the letter C in the English alphabet.
Score would take a thin blue thread and insert it into the needle's hole. He achieved it so effortlessly since he tailors every day as a pastime. He then stitched two pieces of black cloth together; the fabric felt hard and rough, which is why he employs this sort of needle. He kept stitching until he had completed an entire vest. Because the vest was larger than him, he had to be stitching it for someone else. He'd snip the thread link after fastening it, then place the needle back on the table.
Before rising from the stool, he lifted the vest in front of him to check it. He moved slowly through the cluttered workshop, papers, fabrics, and threads thrown on the floor, along with other random stuff. He came to a halt in front of a mannequin held together by stiff threads. The mannequin was transformed into a black skeleton with red buttons serving as eyes. The mannequin also has brown spots starting from its eyes to his cheeks. The mannequin looked like a gigantic puppet since the hardwire threads tied to it connected to wooden crosses, much like puppets.
Score knelt in front of the puppet. He'd slide the puppet's arms inside the vest, tweaking it until it fit precisely. He'd bend his head, leaning closer to the puppet. He'd eventually put his arms over the puppet's neck, as though cuddling the puppet. Before walking away and returning to his workbench. He sat back down on the stool before collecting the red fabric from everywhere on the table. It was a crimson scarf with holes in it.
He looked across the table and selected square brown materials to sew onto the scarf's holes. He could have easily manufactured a new scarf, but instead he patched up the one he already had. That was strange. He finished repairing the scarf and looked at it for a long. He'd pull the scarf near to his face, inhaling deeply before exhaling as if all his problems had vanished. He appeared to be an eccentric skeleton, as shown by the fact that he isn't even wearing a shirt. Score is an Ink Variant, which is unusual because Ink Variants try to conceal the tattoo-like writings on their body.
He then returned to the puppet, putting the scarf he had just fixed over its neck. "Oh, Darling, I miss you so much," he'd murmur softly. He'd stroke the puppet's cheek before resting his head on the puppet's chest for what felt like hours. "Why don't we dance to our song again, Darling?" he said, raising his head to face the puppet. He remained silent, as if allowing the puppet to speak, before leaping to his feet and sprinting for a radio. "I'll turn on the radio then!" he cried, laughing.
Score would touch a button on a radio on another stool before returning to the puppet as the song "Killing Me Softly" played on the radio. He'd remove the wires off the puppet and dance with it while holding it near to him. The radio aired a woman singing the lines, "Strumming my pain with his fingers." Score appeared to be happy as he danced with the puppet. They slowdanced since that was how the song went. As Score danced, the lady sung, "Singing my life, with his word."
Delusion would make his way to Score while dancing to the music. Delusion seized Score's waist, forcing him to startle and drop the puppet he was holding. The lady sang, "Killing me softly with his song." Instead, Score would put his arms around Delusion's neck and slow dance with him. They both stared at one other, drawing each other in and kissing softly but passionately. The kiss quickly grew harsh, leading Score to pull away from Delusion, but Delusion refused to let go of Score, refusing to let his grip on him loosen. "D-Delusion," Score exclaimed as he attempted to back away. "Don't leave me," Delusion pleaded as they halted from their kiss, inches apart.
Score couldn't help but cave in because to Delusion's pleading. He'd cup Delusion's face and kiss him again. Delusion clung to Score and kissed him back. Score would soon take the lead over Delusion before collapsing to the floor. He let out huffs of breath as he fell on the ground, dust and paper flying away from him. He coughed a lot because of the dust that was in the air as he fell. He looked about for Delusion, but he was nowhere to be seen. "I forgot," Score said as the music on the radio came to a halt. "He's not here," he added.
