We know that when Wei Wuxian donated his golden core to Jiang Wanyin it was as powerful as Lan Wangji’s. We also know that Lan Wangji spent a long time recovering from his injuries but 13 years later he was stronger than Jiang Wanyin and that’s why Jiang Wanyin’s wussy ass always backs down when they meet.
Why do you think there’s a lot of difference of power? JC Stans would say ‘it’s because he manages a sect all by himself’🤪🤪🤪. But to me it sounds like he’s a coward that doesn’t challenge himself and that’s why he goes for nameless ‘demonic cultivators’ because he knows he’ll win and not someone like Xue Yang.
What do you think?
And he even got so dependent on his whip that he was useless against Jin Guangyao, just like his mother.
Technically we never see an actual fight between Lan Wangji and Jiang Cheng, as the one confrontation they have, Lan Wangji is decidedly not fighting back. So there’s no real way to tell where their power levels compare, BUT Jiang Cheng is explicitly said to not take on challenges he is not guaranteed to win, which is not Lan Wangji’s philosophy. I believe, based on what the text shows us, that Jiang Cheng simply stopped challenging himself after Wei Wuxian’s death, because 1) Wei Wuxian was the only one to challenge Jiang Cheng due to Madam Yu pushing her feelings of inferiority about Cangse Sanren onto her son, whereby Wei Wuxian’s death removed Jiang Cheng’s one “obstacle” and 2) his ego would not have been able to handle his one “win” in life against the man he could never beat being followed up by a loss to anyone else, not someone above him in status and definitely not anyone beneath him. And even that “win” was false, hence him continuing to hunt down weaker people who simply reminded him of Wei Wuxian in order to live out his fantasies of beating the latter “in honesty.”
Now with all that said, because Jiang Cheng is so egotistical and concerned with his reputation, he doesn’t make a good fighter regardless of his strength. His quick temper and impulsive actions are a detriment in any serious battle against an opponent who knows even the bare minimum of his insecurities, which he himself makes known throughout the entire cultivation world (as we see in Guanyin Temple). So I think Jiang Cheng’s battle prowess has way less to do with how powerful “his” golden core is or what weapon he favors but the fact that he can have all the power and cheats and privileges in the world and still be the great clans’ shittiest fighter based purely on how easy it is to weaponize his insecurities to his own detriment.
