If I want to???? I'm ALWAYS down to scream about Hadestown!!!! Only five though oh heck this is gonna be HARD but luckily I've had the soundtrack blasting all week so HERE WE GO also these are in no particular order honestly they're just my fave moments

Under the cut because it got long!!

1. the transition from epic ii to chant frickkkkk ok you know when you're listening to a musical for the first time and you're not really sure yet but you're vibing, and then all the sudden there's that one thing, that ONE THING, that makes you just DROP and your mouth falls open and you stare at the wall and let the music wash over you and you're DYING because holy crap how have I lived without this??? That's what this moment is for me. I distinctly remember sitting on campus and just dropping my pen on my notebook and staring at my computer screen in awe as my headphones just BLASTED the music ahhhhh it's about the volume increase and the tone shift and that PIANO and those RATTLE THE ROOF STOMP YOUR FEET VIBES SKDJDBDBCHJS

2. wait for me (reprise) but THAT ONE PART I know you know the part when the music drops out and they're all singing their sections and then there's that all together "I'm cOMInggggg" and then the beat and Eva just GOES FOR IT HNGGGGG instant death every time!!!!!!! BUT ALSO!!!!! Hermès' lines!!! FRICK EVERY TIME I HEAR THEM I melt because!! They're so important!!!!

3. the lyric match in gone, I'm gone and epic iii (they danced...) ohhhhh my gosh... when I put this together, I lost it. Eurydice's lines about herself "I'm already gone" and then Orpheus singing to Hades "but he doesn't know that what he is defending is already gone" SKBFNFJJEKSKDNSMLD there's so much significance in that!!!! It's too late for my brain to really get a good grasp on the deeper levels but ANYWAY

4. promises because like ohhhhh my...ohhhh my heart ahhhhHHHH it's the absolute sweetest most wholesome song ever!!!! And the fact that it mirrors wedding song in like the best way ever??? DEAD I'm dead oh my gosh I mean

You just love someone, you love who they are because that's who they are not because they have expensive things to give you or whatever, you love them because in the darkest hour of the darkest night, they will be right there beside you no matter what happens they will be there and that's fricken beautiful

5. if it's true but especially the moment Orpheus realizes he's kinda rallying the people and starts to really get into what he's saying??? I'm talking about "but who are they to say what the truth is anyway?" Because that's the MOMENT! That's when he realizes!! He's onto something and people are listening to him!! He has a VOICE and he can use it!!! And then he's almost singing to US TOO??? He's telling us to get out and use our voices!! That starts at "so I'm asking if it's true! I'm asking me and you, and you, and you!" That's him to EVERYONE!

I could go on and on about my favorite parts of Hadestown but these are the moments and songs that get me the most!!!

The time has come!!

Let’s get some questions answered and see some young Sam and Dean! I’m pumped!

Oof. I can tell this episode is still gonna be pretty plot heavy just based on this “then” alone.

Okay quick side note on Cas’s reaction to what Jack tells him: I read something from Matt Cohen that said he just kept the camera rolling for unusually long takes during that scene to see what Misha would do with what Jack was saying, and that, in the process, he totally saw a touch of Misha’s fatherly side when it comes to his own kids. I completely agree, and that is a hardcore acting point for Misha and a definite directing point for Matt.

YEAH CAS! TELL US!

UGH! Since it’s a MOTW, we have to wait and watch someone die in the first five minutes before we get resolution. Gosh darnat.

Also this is a very interesting music choice? XD

My Mom: “Doctor’s orders.” Do you think that means his shrink told him to go there?

Because the thing is, I can totally imagine Cas just SAYING that, knowing full well that Dean probably didn’t tell Sam, and I read that text with so much sass and scolding in it and I’m dying laughing oh my god.

And no, of course he didn’t, because WE DON’T GET TO KNOW WHAT IT IS!

But also...if Dean hasn’t told Sam yet, this is making me think that Cas didn’t tell him about the Empty, but rather about what Jack told him...which means I was wrong.

Unless I wasn’t. But if it was about the Empty, why wouldn’t Dean tell Sam?

Although, actually, if it is about Jack, WHY wouldn’t Dean tell Sam?

The way that actor just said victory was SOOO Dean omg. The casting on this show is INCREDIBLE. This kid is already ROCKING the Dean personality and he’s only been on screen for two minutes.

Young Sam’s actor is nailing it too, for the record. ESPECIALLY with that sass.

THEY 100% DID THAT ON PURPOSE BECAUSE SAM’S TALKING ABOUT GOING TO COLLEGE AND IT ALL CONNECTS BACK TO WHERE THIS STORY STARTED AND IT’S OUR LAST FLASHBACK EPISODE AND OH MY GOD I LOVE THE SUBTLETIES OF THIS SHOW!!! <3 <3 <3 <3

This small scene is so poetic wow. Between the music, and Sam setting down the college book to pull out his hunting gear...just...wow. Well done Supernatural. Well done.

Wow. I loved their reactions with that. Dean knew, probably because he was older, but Sam seem confused. Plus, that change in music was great. It was just the right amount of dramatic.

Watching young Dean try to ask questions in order to figure out the hunt is great, because you can tell he’s super inexperienced compared to now in the way he says it, but also that he definitely knows what he’s doing and I love it.

Oh. Maybe that nod is just a general sibling thing, because Caitlin and Travis just did it lol. It’s still the best when Sam and Dean do it though. XD <3

THAT WAS SUCH A GREAT TRANSITION OH MY GOD! And it just proves how well that young Dean actor (Paxton Singleton) is doing, because young Dean and older Dean’s expressions matched EXACTLY. <3

One of my favorite things about this show is that any time Sam or Dean has a bad vision/hallucination/nightmare caused by a monster, the other brother is always dead in it. Like, it makes perfect sense for their relationship, and as sad and scary as it is, it works beautifully.

Wow. Yeah I can totally believe that that gave Dean nightmares for the longest time just on that acting alone. Now Dean was terrified even re-living it a little bit. :(

God. That was a TERRIBLE ending, Jesus Christ. All the bonding and family teamwork that’s been happening this season just went out the window with that fight.:’( :’( :’( :’( :’( :’(

I‘ve always loved Dean, obviously, but Jesus Christ dude. Ugh. This better resolve itself. :’( :’( :’( :’( :’( :’(

GOD! Could SPN please STOP with the emotionally charged endings that are hurting my heart! Because this was a DANG GOOD EPISODE, and then they just HAD to do that!! :’( :’( :’( :’( :’( :’( :’( :’( :’( :’( :’(

Welp...my heart hurts, but review here we come.

I really really loved this episode. I mentioned it already, but I’m really glad we got to see some of Supernatural’s elements of horror in this episode. It was genuinely terrifying at several points in time, and we haven’t had an episode like that in a while.

Also, as I often do, I loved the flashback scenes, and all the subtleties that came with it. One of my favorite things about flashback episodes is getting to see just how close Sam and Dean have always been, and I really love seeing them at different times in their life with how their relationship has changed over the years and how it compares to how they are now. It’s nice to see how much they’ve grown, but also how much about their relationship has stayed the same in the sense of that they still love and care for each other and have such a strong bond. It’s a beautiful thing, and this episode conveyed that really well.

Paxton. Singleton. Oh my god. What. An. Actor. I don’t know if he watched episode after episode of this show before being in this episode, but WOW did he NAIL Dean Winchester. I pointed out several specific instances in my reactions, but seriously, his interpretation of Dean was incredible. I was totally able to believe that that was a younger version of Dean, easily. It was amazing. This show’s casting team will always impress me.

All of that said....let’s address that ending.

Holy frick. God that hurt. First of all, as if I haven’t made this clear enough, I really really need Dean to acknowledge that he loves Jack and can’t lose him so that we don’t lose my precious baby, okay? That’s a thing that definitely needs to happen.

Second of all, I do not at all blame Sam for the way he reacted. In fact, I’m actually really impressed with how upset he got, because it plays so much into what’s been going on this season and what’s bound to come.

At the end of Season 14, our team was divided. Between Dean and Cas’s fight over Mary’s death, Sam and Dean locking Jack in the box, and then Sam and Dean fighting over Dean wanting to kill Jack, our boys were a mess. Then, Jack was dead, and Sam and Dean and Cas were grieving, which meant taking things out on each other and being angry and distraught. But within the first several episodes of Season 15, they started to latch onto each other again, and they stayed that way and only progressed further. For the majority of this season, we have seen them bonding and being a family again. We’ve barely seen them fight, and the only exception to that was Dean and Cas’s tension with each other. However, once they made up in 15x09, everything changed. That’s when the OG team was really back. And then when Jack came back, everyone was together again. They were all starting to learn to be a family and work together to take down their enemy. And, I already analyzed this, but after Last Holiday (15x14), even Dean and Jack’s tension was released, to a degree. Sam and Dean and Jack got to bond, and it felt like everyone was ready to take on the enemy together. And then SPN hit us with this.

With Jack and Cas’s emotional turmoil--Jack feeling like the only way to ever have Sam and Dean forgive him was for him to sacrifice herself. Cue the divide between Cas and Jack.

And then this. Dean hiding something from Sam again. After everything they’ve been through this season, after trusting each other more than anything, learning to communicate with each other again, and having each other’s backs every step of the way with no secrets...Dean hid something. And it tore them apart.

Our team is broken again, and right when we need them to be together the most.

And as much as it hurts my heart and made me break into tears and scares the heck out of me for what’s to come, it makes perfect sense, and it’s beautiful.

Because the next episode is called “Unity”. And that’s exactly the opposite of what we have right now, but the hope and the thought is that, when it comes down to it, they’re still a family, and they all still love each other, and they’re all going to be there for each other, and they’re not gonna let anyone go down without the rest of their family’s support.

At least, that’s what I’m hoping.

And maybe I’m over-analyzing. Maybe I’m being too optimistic or hopeful for my boi Jack’s future. But honestly, I feel like I’m right, because I feel like this is exactly what the writers are going for. And I’m excited to see it.

So, obviously, I loved that episode. It had horror, it had great representation of Sam and Dean’s brotherly relationship, it had flashbacks (our last ones :’( :’( :’( :’( ), and, at the very end, it had some very intense feels. But it was a great set-up, and beautifully done, and I absolutely loved it.

Very messy Delta review

Hey gang, i sat & typed & spiraled while listening to delta for the first time just now, so if that interests you to read barely legible thoughts, it’ll be under the read more thing. dang i’m sad!! BUt spoiler alert: GOOOD ALBUM! I’m SAD!! (do note I don’t find the album or many tracks all-around too sad, I’m just a depressed bih)

Delta thoughts: okay i’m not gonna really edit what i wrote but for everyone’s sanity i’ll bold the song titles, okay?

42: BINCH! See a sign, I need some guiding light,,, eff ME UP OKAY?? This is such a strong start i’m already getting teary-eyed, huh. Ugh, it’s so satisfying… well effing done lads,, well done

Guiding Light: Hot dang the whispered beginning?? I really need to fix my computer speakers because this sounds heavenly in my over-ear headphones,, gosh dang. Discover some new TRUTH! Gosh dang this is not a comprehensive review in the slightest but i don’t care!! Binch!! I can’t even say anything good… when beloved or darkness visible makes me cry, i guess beloved is fourth? So if it does it’ll be first, anyway, when i start crying maybe i have something cooler to say. Not crazy about the “dubstep build” on this, after the bridge, just because i don’t believe it, like it’s not long enough, and resolves unconvincingly. But, anyway.

Woman: literally FRICK i thought if i say was next this start is cool and very Winston. Oh vibes?? Oh worm?? Woman?? I’m like 15 seconds in and this is… yes. Can you ever really know? No. is ths song even about anything lol i don’t think i care?? Issa vibe, gang. Chorus?? Eff me up. He said frosty… wendy’s come collect. Oh that was the pre-chorus?? This is f*cking me up… VIBES. i ‘ve been waiting for them to try this in a song of theirs and not like a cover.. I knew they were capable…. The range they’re displaying rn? I love it. I love them wtf!! Oooh man i wanna see this live? There’s this drumstick noise, like rimshots? That sounds so satisfying. Yes, clackety clack. This is nice. Nice song. Don’t really know what they’re singing, bt this is warm. I like it. Mumford & sons finally said it’s 2018, huh. I just got a youtube notification of me commenting on their radio appearance and i literally said “the range they’re showing? Fantastic” and yanno what,, same

Beloved: this song started like right away huh. He said darling… dang he did that. He’s fitting a lot of words in on this one. Ohh the lord has a plan? It is hard to understand… i love these lyrics.. Big brain meme. Are you afraid? The attack.. Hand come through the mirror?? That visual!!! O f*ck me up. Before you leave :(( yeah it’s getting to me aHAHA.ohh this breakdown? Yes. these drums are especially nice. Ugh i really missed these guys wtf :(. AND AS YOU LEAVE, YOU MUST KNOW YOU ARE BELOVED> yes. Yes. as you LEeeeEEeaaveee. See my children playing at your feet?? BOI.. i’m so soft wtf.. They’re really putting it all out… i wanna hug them i’m so… this is so sweet aw. Oh no the song is fading, no don’t do that song

What song is this the piano can f*ck me up: ben man, you’re doin that huh. No literally did we have to jump to this painful… frick. This violin? Is nice. WE SAW BIRTH AND DEATH. Oh frick. They’re just going for it this is a lot i’m soft. Lemme actually see what song this is lol.. It’s The Wild. i have like chills & i can’t tell if it’s because i’m cold or not. Do not be afraid :(. OH they stripped it back!!! THIS IS NICE! Binch! Puts the fear of God in me :( this is so nice .. it’s hard to pick what to focus on. What’s that i see binch? I think it’s the wild… marcus is really do THAT with these vocals, huh. There was like a breath and.. The atmosphere during this part?? Nat Geo who??? Ohhh i like this so much.. It’s like a soundtrack.. The sampling of noise?? The background?? It’s cool, doesn’t specifically sound like them at all, but, aw these drums :( now it’s like a war movie.. This is so interesting. Those drums remind me of the drums in winter winds that i can sometimes here & it’s very drill-like and marching band-esqe and i love it. Aw birds??? You know what this reminds me of…. I won’t say

Next song: marcus is playing no games with these vocals, jesus. October Skies.. Isn’t this his favorite one… ooh ted I hear that bass,, eff it up.OooooOOOoooHH. The range… i love these guys. I’m blinded by the light of october skies… the movie with Jake Gylenhaal, and in the valley I am free :( where’d the silehute go? OOOooooOOOOooooHH YOUr’e esesjfsfshesal!! The fear of what’s to come.. CRIPlin’ me :( binch. Is this synth lowkey?? Brand it on my mind is such a great visual, like the “press my nose up to the glass around your heart” line.. Who wrote it. Oh is the sonG_ OOOOOOoooooOOOOOOoooooHHHH. Maggie rogers is that you? Hot dang

An upbeater!! Wipe those tears baby! Is this the just smoke of this album. This is.. Slip Away. “stoic smile” i see you… haha. Ooh this chorus is nice COME AND SUFFER HERE, LADIES! Mood!! Holding my breathe for you? F! In this violence of a mind’s eye… i like everything except maybe---- ohh this falsetto?? I’m.. i’m tearing.. Oooh we just found a song to cry to in the middle of the night, huh. It’s misleading with the beat vs. the lyrics.. I wouldn’t have it any other way!! Gosh i’m so depressed! Lol!! There’s a pulsing beat of some kind that’s nice.. Also some nice guitar work on here, some clackety things… go gently… be still…. Go gently….now… be still… Go Gentlyyyyy nowwwww, be stiiiilllll. Ugh they.. They’re doing this… i’m so proud of them wtf. Is this winston?? Who is singing.. Marcus?? I can’t.. Tell? No i think its marcus but we’ve truly never heard that high-end from him for that long

Okay: next song is pretty interesting- ooh! Right off the bat! This has to be the one they said sounded like ngalma? However you spell it… clap clap clap clap clap, this is a drum-machiner one for sure. I will be yours & you will be mine, ever our lives will be entwined binch! This noise after “my rose of sharon” is a mood. Ugh this is so cute.. Imagine being happy w/ someone else, what a concept ! eeeeeee yuh! That’s what they’re singing in the back.. My rose of sharon, my rose of sharon, BRR BRR BRN NER! Did the song-- what’s up with these abrupt endings

That being said, Picture You sounds v vibey right off the bat. Okay lads! I thought it best you didn’t knowww. I’m so proud of Marcus for flaunting these vocals, i stg, I’ve spoken on this before but... like he can do that!! I’m so glad he’s,, doing it! Ooh the “away” is v nice. I love full-stops in music, where the sound gets sucked out like here or just stops entirely… yes boys. Okay.. not crazy about this kind of.. Breakdown but it’s still cool. Just not in-rand as much as some other things. I mean, this sound is V different of course but they’re workin’ it. Okay i kind of stopped paying attention for a sec… there’s sampling… ohhh oh no it’s getting dark… hohoho no guys.. I’m excited but the anxiety is jumping out… holy smokes this is cool tho. It’s pretty. Hope that never comes, that comes to all.. Torture without end… yet from the great flames no light,,, but rather.. .DARKNESS VISIBLE. I’m gonna check if it didn’t seamlessly bleed into darkness visible…

Oh it did!! Their minds!! God, i already know i love darkness visible,, it was my pre-album listen fave on details about it alone,, we’re depressed sweeties let’s pop off… it’s so nice >:(. And just like that it ended!!!! BINCH!!! Ooh they’re like not even vocally in that one… i like that ish!! Not the “them not being in it” in that way but OOH! That was effing cool

If I Say: is still v v nice,, sounds effing expansive and beautiful with good headphones, i’m picking up all the lil details and prettiness.. The synth line after “if i say i love you, well then i love you” is sooo satisfying too. Ugh this orchestra,,, it’s building.. Truly their minds were so big on this album, huh. I’ll tell you what It doesn’t mean that i feel better! It doesn’t mean that I feel better! I’m, haha i still kinda hate this chorus but their so passionate i can’t hate it all the way,, like they love this ish and are into it & i love them so it’s allll good homies. I dig. I’ll be fake and wild out when they play it live, don’t worry. But peace you never find :( the guitar tone is crispyyyy,, the instrumentation… ugh it’s so nice. Violins can murder me or someat and I’d accept it. AND IF I SAY I LOVE YOU, THEN I LOVE YOUUUU. Ugh,, so so nice man

What’s NEXT: ooh some seamlessness in that transition.. .is this ghost of tom joad i’m hearing lol, mortal once again!! Oh this is a mood, freak.. Sigh no more marcus really jumped out on this one. This shuffling maraca thing is so nice. I’ll hold you by the jaw!! Hoo hoo bihhh. “It took a wild heart to tame mIIiine” this is so nice wtf!! Ugh this is so nice. I wouldn’t have you any other way,, awwwwwWWW!! Who want a love that makes sense anyway? I’ll effing say! Ugh this is very nice. These lyrics are so interesting… this is a good one guys, quiet & sweet but there’s some pretty cool things also going on, like it’s simple but its… this is it, ya know? This piano is sweet too. This whole thing is sweet, maybe that’s a dumb word to use but. This is so sweeeeet ugh!!! The vocal riffs on “mine” … ugh!! I kind of like the echoey vocals too.. Soft rain patter for two seconds at the end??

Reverse noises w/ a big breath from Marcus: let’s effing go w/ this album, gang!! What song is this reminding me of… whispers in the dark? He did some late-babel, early wilder mind voice thing.. Wait it’s forever isn’t it. I heard this one i think, like 3 yrs ago.. Yup, Dare I Say Forever.. I still don’t like do it for the girl” cos it’s too straightfoward, ,”i’ve known pious women” LOL where is this going. Only mumford & sons can really put that word in a song and just, keep singing. We stan tho, we stan. Think of london,,, we love. The DAAaaYS you defend will turn to gold,, this could easily be the last song on the album, this is like a last-call at the bar song,, in a good way, i’ve linked arms with my buddies & we’re all yelling this song like goons,, yes. Lighters a-waving,, are we too sentimental to not look back atnd!! WOW he realy did that with stare!! I couldnt finish typing that.. Is this part auto-tuned?? Dare I say.. Why? I’m choosing to hear it as a vocoder and many harmonies so i don’t hate that but uhaha they.. Hm they tried that i guess. Other than that the vi- oh why did the violin exit like that

The song is bouncing in my ears weird!! It’s giving me monster vibes atm. There’s a definite thread of messages goin thru this album & oof i love being sad,, the children come & go as you weep? Lol i love being sad. I am a waste?? My words are empty [as the bed we made]. Wilder mind is comin out on this, the album, huh!! The optimism on this album is-- I”LL MEET YOU OUT THE DELTAAA< WHERE THE RIVER”S RUINNING TO THE SEA,, GOD i love it. Ooh these drums, cool cool, it’s.. This is cool. Also sampling marcus’s children is sure way to eff everyone up, but that’s for another post,, ooooh i’m soft!! When it feels like nothing else matters :((((( lets go with this build!!! I wanna go for a run and have a cry.. Ooh man i took a moment there… this is so nice :( i’v missed them!!! Whats goin on with his vocals here,, the recording is like too close,, on purpose?? Hm. dust to dust!! I see you!! Marcus is truly giving his all here,, ugh I”m so proud of all of them, they put their LIVES on this, didn’t they!!! This song is such a feeling,, i can’t describe it i’m sad, but awwwW! I don’t kno wtf these kids are saying but wow that was cute as all heck!!! I”m so soft!! The album is over!! They did it!! Frick i don’t know how to feel!! Good really, but wow!!! Trying to not let my own sadness affect this review haha but !! what a nice body of work they produced!! In all the best ways, mostly!! I love them!! I wanna have another listen!! Aw!!!! Frick guys. Frick. Can’t imagine anyone wants to slog thru this and have a read but,, anyway thanks if you did i guess, special thanks to Mumford & Sons for being my favorite band and always :( always being there when I need it. I needed this. wow. wow. Wowww!!! Oof, haha i’m sad

Okay wait also he should’ve repeated the “I’ll meet you at the delta part” at least one more time but eff my criticism that song captures all stages of life and i truly wanna cry, so there’s that. Theses guys put it all out there & I really love them for that.

i did the music alphabet challenge thing!

@pancakesforamber asked me to do this. i’ll put a read more because this is super long. also this is in response to amber, so that’s why a few of these are directed at her!

okay so i wanna preface by saying this was super hard because some of these aren’t even songs i really listen to anymore, and usually i really like to make playlists with songs that have a similar feel or at least flow together well. this definitely will not! but i think regardless it’s kind of a fun glimpse into the music that’s impacted me throughout my life? also i tried not to repeat artists because that’s no fun, so a few of these include like secondary options but whatever. also also...i just KNOW i’m gonna think of better options for some of these later, but again, whatever!

· A: an uplifting song miracle by ghost beach. this one was hard for me but i listened to this song a lot when i was trying to get over stuff and it’s a happy song so yeah!

· B: a song to listen to before you go to sleep whiskey by voxtrot. i don’t really listen to music before i fall asleep, but if i did i’d pick this song because it’s calm and sweet. can a song feel warm? because this song feels warm to me. you’ll have to listen to this one on youtube because i believe this is one of voxtrot’s b-side songs? one of my faves by them though.

· C: a song from a soundtrack we’re gonna be friends by the white stripes. i couldn’t think of many songs i listen to that are from movies, but this was in napoleon dynamite back in the day but i think it’s such a cute song!

· D: a song that reminds me of a fictional character miserable by rodeo church. look, by this point i hope you’ve accepted the only fictional characters that i really think about are my own...i know that’s so vain. anyway, this song reminds me of dominic from wtru given the depressing lyrics but kind of manic energy of the song.

· E: a song by a band I’ve seen live in my dreams by eels. i had to include them at least once haha but they were my first ‘real’ band i saw live, and i’m glad it was this way. and this was the song that got me hooked/still one of my favorites so :)

· F: a song that I’ve used as a ringtone at some point california by phantom planet. uhhh so this is embarrassing: my sister and i used to get super obsessed with shows we didn’t even watch by watching like youtube clips and stuff, and this includes the o.c. this song is the theme song and i can’t remember if i actually had it as my ringtone at one point or just almost bought it for my ringtone, but it’s the only song ringtone i’ve ever had haha

· G: a song to party your butts off to desperate measures by marianas trench. there are probably more recent energetic songs to dance around to, but this is my JAM. found this song...freshman year of college? still such a jam though, i love it.

· H: a song that reminds me of my childhood moonshadow by cat stevens. growing up i listened to a LOT of elton john and cat stevens. but i had to just pick one, and this one reminds me of driving in our family’s car because we had cat steven’s album.

· I: a song that gives me butterflies kiss the breeze by sticky fingers. have we talked about this band? one of my favorites, and again, this is the song that made me discover them. weirdly, this band is kind of like a stoner/reggae british band, but this song is so beautiful. i found it right before my england/scotland trip and then proceeded to play it a lot during the trip too, so it reminds me of england.

· J: a song by the beatles blackbird by the beatles. i know tumblr hates on the beatles, but i still have a soft spot for them. this is another band i had an obsessive phase with, so i could pick a bunch, but i’ve always really liked blackbird.

· K: a song I know all the lyrics to jump into the fog by the wombats. i used to sing this ALL THE TIME in the shower yikes

· L: an instrumental song claire de lune by claude debussy. i got stuck on this one for a while before remembering my absolute favorite instrumental song. so so beautiful it makes me emotional.

· M: a song that hasn’t got a video but I wish it had AHHH okay okay so i was going to reverse this into ‘a song that has a video that i wish it hadn’t’ and send you this video for i like birds by eels BUT the video got DELETED. basically it was this video that a bunch of old ladies in a birdwatching community made, and it was super dorky and i absolutely hated it (but secretly kind of loved it) and i wanted you to see it to hate it with me. but it’s gone now, so i guess now i’m left wishing this song DID have a video...the video of the old women looking for birds </3

· N: a song by a band I want to see live forgive and forget by the kooks. there are a few bands i still want to see, but the kooks are one of my faves, and of their songs, this is one of my faves. so that answers that!

· O: a melancholic song calm calm calm yourself by anchor & braille. okay so...this isn’t a sad song. but the thing is i used to listen to it a lot in like high school when i was trying to pull myself out of anxiety attacks and stuff. so now hearing it makes me sad by association, you know? but it’s a nice song otherwise.

· P: a song that I’d recommend you based on your blog who’d have known by lily allen. so okay i feel like your music taste consists of a lot more female artists than mine? you may already listen to her, idk, but lily allen was a classic for me and my sister when i was in high school. and this song is adorable.

· Q: a song to drive to sit next to me by foster the people. so i’ve wanted you to listen to this song for a while! this is from their new album, but this is potentially my favorite on the album (top 3 at least). but it reminds me of night driving probably more than any other song.

· R: a song that I’ve listened to lots of times recently technically this should be something from the new foster the people album BUT i’m gonna go with the man by the killers. super catchy and i love it.

· S: a song by a band of your choice holy roller by portugal. the man. okay so...i don’t think we’ve talked about this, mainly because this is super ‘pretentious hipster’, but let me just say that i liked ptm before they became super famous for ‘feel it still’. this was the song that got me hooked. i still remember hearing it during my freshman year of college at american eagle and frantically scrambling to type in lyrics on my phone so i could find it later. ANYWAY let it be known that i knew them before they were cool.

· T: a lovesong delicate by damien rice. i don’t know if technically this would be considered a love song? but it’s so beautiful that it feels like falling in love, i think. love damien rice, but again, this is the song that got me into him.

· U: a song that reminds me of a fictional pairing I want to belong to you by katie herzig. GUESS WHICH FICTIONAL PAIRING THIS IS ABOUT. JUST FRICKING GUESS ;)

· V: a non-english song mi ancla by mindy gledhill. this is kind of cheating. i like mindy gledhill, and i love her song ‘anchor’. this is the spanish version. still beautiful and sweet <3

· W: a song with an amazing music video typical by mute math. this one is super middle school, but to be honest i don’t watch a lot of music videos? and this song is still a jam anyways. basically (or at least the middle school legend goes) this music video was literally filmed entirely backwards. as in the band members had to LEARN THE CHORDS AND LYRICS BACKWARDS so that playing the music video backwards would actually make the song sound right. i’m only now realizing how ridiculous and fake that actually is. still, this music video rocks harder than anything my 13 year old self had ever seen.

· X: a cover your song by ellie goulding. you might know this one. i don’t think there’s many covers i like more than the original, but i actually like this one more than the elton john original (which is saying a lot because i like elton john a lot too)

· Y: a song I’d send to my crush (imaginary, if you don’t have one) wicked game by james vincent mcmorrow. so in reality, i’d never send this to a crush; i don’t think i’d send any song to a crush though? seems kind of creepy. but this song is beautiful and has such a feeling of longing that i guess i associate it with the feeling of having feelings for someone.

Dark Souls 1

1 - Your favourite boss?BOI U KNO (tho I’ve yet to meet them on my playthrough *sobs*)Visually I also like Artorias’ fight a lot, so it’s a tie between him and O&S (also Pinwheel because lore even tho his fight is depressing af)

2 - Your least favourite boss? 50 Shades of Fat Demons with Hammers

3 - Boss you had the most trouble with?I have not gotten far yet but I’d say Capra because I fucking hate that tiny ass room (tho I gotta blame the controller having switched controls for that one)

10 - Favourite Soundtrack? I really like Gaping Dragon… also Nameless Song, definitely one of the prettiest and sweetest soundtracks I’ve ever listened to. I’d go almost as far as saying that’s even more soothing that the background music in the Dream. It really gets the feeling of the entire world of Lordran in it’s sweet, lonely decay.

23 - Do you make funny or pretty looking characters?I always go for pretties, or at least aesthetically strange but decently pleasing looking characters. The randomizer isn’t exactly for me :P

1 : Sir Alonne. I will gush about the guy left and right for 30 years, I dun care, he’s got cool fight, cool soundtrack, cool aesthetics and dat lore baby give it to me

2 : I really do not care for the Demon of Song, it feels like an afterthought and the fight ain’t that great.

3 : Raime. Because my gank scrub tactics DO NOT WORK on the guy. Also the Smelter Demon. Fuck the Smelter Demon.

10 : I’ll be honest nothing has really struck a nerve with me yet ? Except Majula. Because Majula is sweet.

1 : I love everyone in this game but for sake of simplicity let’s say Gehrman is my fave babe. That bossfight is so gooooooood. Same with Ludwig. They have wildly different aesthetics and soundtracks and they’re both so well constructed and enjoyable and sometimes I feel like I’m the only one who has fun during Ludi’s first phase but frick man, he’s so cool they’re both so cool I love them

2 : Celestial Emissary ? I mean… *gestures wildly* EH

3 : Logarius. I love him but I hate him. Also BSB gave me so much trouble during my first playthrough.

10 : I wanna say a tie between Ludwig and Gehrman’s themes but the truth is that I’ve listened to “Of The Pthumerian Line” and “Amygdala” too many times to count and I would make an entire dissertation on the change of tone in “Moon Presence” and in “The Hunter” if I knew anything concrete about music and also Micolash’s theme is badass- so yeah. I just. Love the entire OST.

John-

Ok so like, canonically, we know that John doesn’t “get” rap or at least doesn’t think it’s as cool as Dave thinks it is, but that’s really the only hint we have besides maybe him knowing all the words to “How Do I Live.”

I’m going to go out on a limb and say that John almost exclusively listens to movie soundtracks. If you look at his music library it’s just soundtrack after soundtrack after soundtrack for the shittiest most campiest movies, (that boy has every Shrek album I know it) including lots of OSTs from like Harry Potter and the Lord of the Rings.

Besides that, John’s tastes in bands is just as awful and campy as his movies, also I feel like John get’s easily weirded out by Punk/Heavy Metal/pretty much everything on Rose’s library. Like the most Alternative thing John listens to is Cake.

Anything else on his library is probably shit he picked up from his Dad (which is mostly classical) or Grandma tbh, esp, like The Temptations. Also he’s..a huge sucker for one-hit wonders.

-God Rose is just the most edgy, freak folk, alternative/indie rock kid in the whole cast and I lowkey think she has a bit of a superiority thing about it and loves to put on her music knowing that everyone else in the room probably won’t like it? That said she definitely likes the more theatrical, popular artists too (I can see Rose eating up the Bad Romance video so much).

Rose is just the right amount of pissed, emo, and bad with people to be really into The Mountain Goats btw. Also due to the levels of Gay, Tegan and Sara is obligatory,

-Jade for a fact has the widest variety of musical tastes out of all the kids, nobody can tell me differently. She just loves music in all of it’s forms and can almost find good in anything anybody puts on if she listens to it enough.

Her favorite genres definitely yo-yo between contemporary Pop, New Wave, and Funk to a shit ton of 60′s-late 80′s stuff that Jake got her into, like the Beatles. Jade loves the Beatles and if she’s ever in a bad mood will put on Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band and go for a walk on their massive property. She’s also the one who got all the other Beta’s into Queen, her and John have seriously bonded over it and love to screech sing “on road trips.

She also probs listens to a lot of jazz because of Jake too.

Tonight, A Lead Singer Died in Detroit. Somebody Knows Why... Somebody Knows... Part I: So Now You Know

Chris Cornell is dead. I almost feel like Rorshach in Watchmen reporting this. “A comedian died tonight.” Well, a lead singer died tonight. This impacted me more profoundly than I once thought. I didn’t think it would, but yesterday I started playing Hunger Strike over and over when I came to some pretty stark realizations. It was so bad listening to it in the car that I wasn’t sure if I could control my emotions visiting a friend who wasn’t even born in 1992. I will try to outline them here for you, so everyone can understand. This is something that I feel compelled to tell.

I was taken back to high school when I first heard of Soundgarden while riding in my brother’s Escort, which was my first car. Damn, that car was not the best vehicle. He had this amplifier in the car, which made the sound concert-like. The two moments I remember was the chorus to Outshined and the beginning riff to Rusty Cage. It was like, oh my God, what is that, I know I’m just a lowly freshman, but that is kind of awesome. My naive freshman mind somehow thought they were the same song at the time. This got me to thinking that if you could pick one year to be a freshman, why not the most seminal year in music. I never really appreciated that fact until now. I love music now because I was a freshman in 1992. I can remember lots of things about that year. I got Pearl Jam’s Ten through Columbia House (I probably still owe those assholes money), which seems like 100 years ago. I remember a rumor starting that Nirvana was going to come to Palmer Auditorium that freshman year in my Spanish class. Coincidentally, I chose the name Gerardo that year for my name because…rico suave, why not. My junior year when Nirvana returned the mainstream wasn’t so hot on them anymore. They came back and played Palmer, but I only remember one guy actually going to see it. His death changed everything. I found out about it before we were to take the ACT test. I find it a bit surreal that it was that particular day because it was a Saturday. Some students didn’t want to take the test, but at the time, I and a lot of others laughed at that stupid notion. I guess the errors of a capricious youth. The funny thing is about Soundgarden was I loved the beginning riff of Rusty Cage, but now that I am older, I really don’t prefer anything else in the song besides that riff. They should have put it in the intro to Outshined because all it sounds more relevant and appropriate with that track. I also remember borrowing aka stealing my brother’s Temple of the Dog cd with Hunger Strike. I never imagined it was a supergroup to honor Mother Love Bone. All I knew was that had Eddie Vedder and Chris Cornell on the same song, which made you say..Heck yeah, Seattle! I never knew the story behind it, which makes things even crazier. These bands were all friends. In this day and age, I cannot believe it. The even more insane thing is that all the members of Pearl Jam besides Mr. Vedder were in Mother Love Bone. I remember listening to the Singles soundtrack after seeing it in theatres with my best friend thinking, holy shit, I need to hear that Chloe song. I believe that Eddie Vedder may have had one regret much like Chris Cornell. They were not Andrew Wood.

Over the next few years, I kept track of Soundgarden even getting back into them with the release of Spoon Man and Black Hole Sun. Yet, they were always in my mind behind Pearl Jam and Nirvana as far as bands from Seattle go. You could almost say that the Smashing Pumpkins slid in there with Siamese Dream. Why is that? I think for the most part the quality of their meh songs was much better. Soundgarden had a great number of songs, but none of their albums had what I call, track to track greatness. I could pop on any track and know the song would be very good. I lost track of Soundgarden as I didn’t really feel one way or another when they broke up. I was in the throws of the New York garage rock revival at that time. Yet, around 2006, I heard about Audioslave. Once again, a few great songs surrounded by a few average ones in my mind, but Cochise was perfect. It was the perfect symmetry of Tom Morello and Chris Cornell. One could make the case that actually this was Tom Morello’s best song and not Rage Against the Machine. Some will say blasphemy, but I would say that Cornell’s more traditional vocals highlighted more appropriately the talents of Morello. I even purchased tickets to see them in Milwaukee at the Eagles Ballroom. I never went. If I knew they would break up soon, I probably would have gone, looking back in retrospect. I have missed so many great concerts due to my drinking, it is not even funny. I either stayed at the bar to drink instead of going or was too hungover to go anyway. Oh, well, I guess. All you can now is…YOLO. Yes, I am sure I was probably hungover when I missed Audioslave. I would hear Cochise in the In 2010,

Soundgarden hit my radar again when the lineup for Lollapalooza was announced. They were to play Sunday and I had planned to see them. Yet, the festival took its toll on me as old age was catching up to me even then I guess. I went to see Cypress Hill right before, but could barely stand. My entire body felt an exhaustion I had never really felt before. I sat there on the curb in Grant Park unable to move a muscle. I heard Soundgarden for a few minutes, but I just had to go home. The last band playing can sometimes be a gift and a curse I guess. In my mind, I saw the Strokes on Friday, so I was cool with leaving. Yet, I did feel some sense of regret because I never did watch the video on YouTube from their set. Lollapalooza can be hard anyway. There are so many bands and seeing them all is almost impossible. I was also thinking of my luck as well. When would it run out? 2 years previously at the same festival, I broke 2 knuckles, In 2009, I almost got arrested at the Metro, so in my eyes, I was pushing my luck. I just thought that they had just gotten back together, so I would see Chris Cornell and Soundgarden soon. Not Soundgarden, but I did see Chris Cornell soon unexpectedly.

In 2011, Pearl Jam announced they would be playing 2 shows at Alpine Valley to celebrate their 20th anniversary. I probably would not have gone, except The Strokes were playing. My friend Steve came with too, who was always a good sport. Classic rock was his thing, but he could get into Pearl Jam as well. I remember that it was really rainy that day. So much so, we drank Bud Light in the car before the show, rather than get drenched. It was really a miserable show because we had lawn seats, which is good, if it doesn’t fricking monsoon all night. We got there for the Strokes and I quickly realized something about Alpine Valley. The lawn pretty much sucks because they might as well been playing over at the country club for all I could see. Last year, I returned for the first time and figured out it was still the same. You can’t see jack shit there. I heard some parts of their set, including a duet on Juicebox with Eddie Vedder. We stayed for Pearl Jam hoping to hear some classics. It was mostly their 2000-2010 catalog, which I pretty much can’t stand. If I’m being honest. I kept saying that they were going to play a good one. I said, “Steve, trust me.” I remember not really getting into a lot of the songs, but instead I was drunkenly fascinated by this girl hula-hooping in the mud. We were more entertained by that at one point, rather than Pearl Jam. Oh, well, I guess. The time came for the encore and Steve wanted to beat the traffic, I said, let’s listen to one more song, you never know. The next song was Hunger Strike with a guest appearance from Chris Cornell. My earlier Temple of the Dog experience came flashing back instantly. I would later tell Steve how special that was and I am not sure he truly grasped it, but I did. That is something to tell people you were there. My friend Steve asked after, “Can we go now?” I smiled, “I would think so.” I just thought of it as another concert until in 2015 Steve tragically passed away. This emerged as our last concert together. What a last concert to attend! Time passed again until a couple of days ago when Chris Cornell passed away as well. In a way, I feel a sort of kinship towards Eddie Vedder now because we both lost close friends from that show. I know it is not really the same, but I tell you what, if we ever meet, that is what I’m talking to him about. Also, that Wrigley being drunk thing, I totally understand. Despite my crappy view, I could tell how towering a figure Cornell could look. The man was fairly tall, which people probably didn’t expect this generous, sensitive guy, especially with his hair long like a lion’s mane. As tributes have been posted, many media sites are posting that show. I have been behaving myself, not trolling anyone, but simply posting, “I was there. :). Concerts are a lot like life that way. Sometimes it is all about just showing up. You never know the surreal twists and turns concert experiences can take some time.
