Having absorbed enough Locked Tomb series content, highly recommend it btw, I realize Merula is not a bad character, she's just badly written.
#there's a lot i see in harrowhark. one of the mcs of the series. that would've been great if applied to Merula#like having moments of *true* honesty#which is different from using her trauma with her parents to manipulate mc into pity#showing us her true capabilities and ambitions instead of having her perturb us every other side quest and be petulant#giving us actual good reasons why she'd fall into the hands of people trying to manipulate her when she's 'so clever'#have her once admit her complicated feelings towards mc yet how that doesn't change anything#she could've been SO much more interesting. it makes me mad#also ianthe and ismelda parallels that are just so yum yummy#trust me. they can make ismelda weirder (and if they try to normalize her as an adult I'll riot)#the locked tomb#hogwarts mystery#hphm#merula snyde#also go read gideon the ninth. necromantic wizards basically. with a funny jock protagonist. that's all you need to know. now go read it
