Widowmaker Headcanons (general) I like talking about Amelie a lot, so I'm making a general hc list of things I think about her! It's entirely self indulgent but I just want to write for her more so cope /j My asks are open, and they're under the cut - enjoy!

What's Amelie's sexuality? I like to HC her as bisexual with a male lean - she has more experience with male partners, but after Gerald's death she's struggled with dating men (or really anyone since). She's demisexual as well, even though if you said that to her she'd have no clue what you're talking about whatsoever. Her sexuality is known to very few, and she intends to keep it that way to avoid discussions about her spreading more.

What's Amelie's preferred weather and season? Amelie has an appreciation for the spring and autumn - she finds it comforting seeing the seasons change to bring new life in the spring, and then for that life to come full circle in its life span in the autumn. Knowing that it's all a cycle, and it will always repeat itself (with some variation) is something she feels secure in. She loves the rain as well; often times she'll sit by her window, glass of wine in hand and will simply enjoy the music the rain makes against her home. It's peaceful, and helps quiet her mind when it's filled to the brim with things she can't quite understand.

Something small that Amelie enjoys? It might not seem like anything to other people, but Amelie enjoys styling her hair. When she's in private, away from anyone else, she lets herself watch tutorials and enjoy herself as though she's playing dress up with herself as the doll. It's something she keeps under lock and key, with only Moira knowing because she walked in on her trying out space buns after she saw them online. She hates the fact that she has to keep her hair up all the time to fit her image in Talon, and so it's partially a rebellious act, as a way to gain more independence in herself and her identity.

Any bad habits that Amelie has? Her worst habit is her drinking - it's been her main way of coping with her trauma for years. Often times, she'll go to bed wine drunk, with the bottles on her nightstand waiting for her to clean them up in the morning. She feels as though drinking is one of the only times she can actually feel emotions the way she's supposed to, and the way she did before her experimentations in Blackwatch. It helps her feel more human, more normal. She sometimes goes on alcohol bans, especially if she's busy with work. But, she's never going to decline a free drink or a present that's alcohol related. It's her worst feature, arguably.

Does Amelie like being in pictures? Not anymore - not since her wedding photos. She was never really a photogenic woman, but after the experimentations she grew to dislike her body. That's why I think she got her tattoo, as a way to bring something she likes into her appearance so that she's not full of hatred for herself. Amelie doesn't like the reminders of her unhappiness working in Talon, and so taking pictures would only feel torturous of her. She'd have to fully, genuinely, and truly trust someone to feel comfortable taking pictures with them. It's how she's always been deep down, but it's been amplified since Blackwatch.

How well does Amelie take care of herself? Because of Talon's strict guidelines, she has to take very good care of herself both physically and hygiene wise. She doesn't like to feel grimy or dirty either, so she tends to take 2 showers a day - once in the morning and once before bed. She's very into skincare, and likes to have a winding down nighttime routine where she focuses on her skincare, body care and focuses on healing herself however she can. No one knows this besides her, but she keeps a wellness journal to track the emotions she's felt that day, what they mean and what caused them. Amelie often fills it in when she's alone, in the bathroom with the shower still running to make people think she's still busy. It's her way of trying to understand the mental war going on in her mind, especially when these emotions were dulled down and almost removed completely for years. Physically, she does Pilates and endurance training alongside her continued treatments from Moira - it helps her relax, focus on her core strength, and ensures she's ready for the missions that come next. If she could, though, she'd be training through ballet practice. She misses it dearly, but Moira refuses to let her explore that route, just incase it brings back memories or emotions that would interfere with her work. It's something Amelie detests about Talon, but she knows she can't leave and this is all she has left now after everything that happened with Overwatch. It's all she knows, and it's all she can know, so she continues with what's recommended for her training as per Moira's guidelines.

Who do they go to for comfort? Honestly, it would be Olivia/Sombra. We've seen how understanding she can be of Sigma and his ailments in Talon, and if Amelie were to open up and reveal what's going on in her mind, how she's letting herself slowly learn how to feel again, I think Olivia would have her back throughout it all. Olivia would obviously be a risky ear to talk to, incase she spills it for the right price, but Amelie is short on people she can rely on. Anyone she could trust without experimenting on her or ridiculing her is gone now, and all she has is Olivia to give her the hope of support and genuine concern. They have a very sweet, private friendship and Olivia's a good shoulder for Amelie to rely on when she's struggling with her newfound emotions. Olivia's logical nature also helps when Amelie's in a pessimistic, agitated mood and helps her to ground herself and look at the situation from a different lens. Sometimes, though, if she's feeling very restricted, unable to be herself, she'll speak to Sigma about things going on, and listen to his rambles to help quiet her mind. They both feel the pain of being in Talon, even though they have very different mental states. Regardless, it would take a lot for her to go to anyone for comfort, and even if she wanted to she's always careful with her words, making sure that if anything was overheard or spoken about, that she could defend herself adequately.

Also where'd you get all that Sam lore from? I read the wiki and all it says is that he is Native American and a public servant.

No one has asked for this and no one probably will. I'm also not sure if I've talked about this topic before but I still want to address it.

Why do I talk about Martina but hardly, if ever, talk about Sam or Vincent?

Before I start I do want to mention that I will talk about Sam at some point cause I find what we know about his character interesting.

Now the reason I don't talk about Vincent is mainly because I don't think he's all that important to the story as Sam and Martina, for me Vincent is here as a reminder to Jack on what he gave up in order to keep the world safe, at least that's how Jack views it. To me what we know about Vincent, that he's Jack's ex, that he's married now and living a normal life, is all we need to know. It's implied that he and Jack broke up long before Zurich, possibly even either when Jack got the Strike Commander position.

Again with Sam I do find his character interesting, and I am going to talk about him at some point but I don't talk about him in the way I talk about Martina because we are given hints about his character. The relationship between him and Pharah is stated as being complicated, he's a Public Servant but as far as we know wasn't a part of Overwatch, hell we even know he and Pharah enjoy butter tarts around the Christmas holidays. We know so much more about him as a character outside of his relationship with Ana compared to Martina.

Which brings me to why I talk about Martina, all we really know about her was that she was kind, forgiving, was married to Gabe, has a son, and has since gotten a new partner. Now usually I wouldn't have a problem with the if it wasn't for the fact that in CoV, she used as Reaper's motivation and that's it, she's just used in a very misogynistic trope and that's it. Part of who I am, both as a person and a writer, is that when I see a character with so much potential being written terribly either in canon and in fandom, I want to fix it.

And with the Reaper and Widow interaction;

Widowmaker: Are you ever tempted to contact your wife?

Reaper: No.

Widowmaker: Afraid she would try to kill you?

Reaper: I'd be surprised if she didn't.

It gives me some hope that she is actually more of a character then what we were given in CoV and we might eventually see more of her. Until then I'm going to continue to headcanon Martina as a badass ex-Overwatch agent and no one can stop me!

Tallmadge had been a thorn in his side since day one, their unspoken competition coming to a head the night the bastard Major had shoved him over the coals for speaking his mind and offending his precious General, the man that had let them down continuously as the men of the Continental Army continued to fall down upon their own swords for him.

He wasn't sorry for wanting someone better than Washington, to appoint someone who would sooner see this war put to an end than remain an indecisive and shameless coward. His only regret was that he was leaving behind his dearest love -- his sole reason for fighting, the one thing that mattered.

"Seeing how this is your last night on earth, I suggest that you make peace with God."

"I've made my peace with our good Lord who will hold no sin against me," he assured with a smirk, "I go to my maker with a clean conscience, Major, but will you, a widowmaker, do the same?"

I will try my best...should she wish it. We are intent on protecting your loved ones from reprisal, but that's about all I can guarantee."

Williams's hands were bound behind him, but that didn't stop him from tugging at the binding rope that burned into his wrists, wishing he could grab Ben by the collar and shove him against the wall, perhaps putting some fear into him one last time.

"That isn't good enough," he hissed, teeth grit so hard, his jaw ached, "Have you so little empathy for a woman left to face the world alone because you've condemned her husband? Of course, you don't...you would know little of what it's like to harbor such a love that you'd risk everything for it."

He drew in a deep breath, exhaling through his nose as he struggled to contain his resentment, for Prudence's sake.

"Tallmadge, my wife is with child. I implore you to thoroughly consider your part in the safety of those I hold most dear. Castigate me and send me to the gallows, but Prudence and my child are blameless in this."

Do you think Widow will want some light brainwashing for her new slaves, or would she rather break them in herself? Or maybe the fact that she's paying for Lena's treatments may be enough for the girls to not even consider betraying her. Maybe Amélie might even try to hide her identity initially by having them wear blindfolds until Tracer tells her something like "Mistress, I know you're Amélie Lacroix. As long as you don't give us to Talon, we will remain completely loyal to you." -Anna

She's going to want to break them in herself. Not necessarily because she prefers a hands on approach (though she does), but because her feelings towards Lena in particular are tied up heavily in their rivalry. She could have her brain washed, she could torture her until she breaks, but neither of those would get her what she actually wants (or thinks she wants): To win.

In this particular fic, I am choosing to interpret things as over time Widowmaker began to respect Tracer, then she considered her a rival, and with how neither ever really got the upper hand long term she started to think of her as a unique match and equal to herself and ultimately became obsessed with her. She stalked Lena for years but never did anything to hurt her outside of a proper conflict because that would be admitting that Tracer is better than her, and the only way to permanently secure victory was cheating.

And just as a bullet in the head while she is sleeping is not good enough, brainwashing or torturing her until she breaks, anything along those lines, defeats the entire purpose. She wants Lena to willingly submit to her and acknowledge that Amélie is her better, and therefore there are certain lines she will never cross and she will always, at least, give Lena a fair chance at resistance. Her obsessive personality will allow for nothing less.

Her relationship with Emily is no less messed up while being a bit less extreme. As Lena's chosen partner, she is inherently worthy of respect (and some jealousy), and she is obviously quite attractive. She's done enough snooping around in Emily's life to confirm that Lena has good taste in partners (as any rival of her's obviously would!) But as of the start of the fic, she really only thinks of Emily as she relates to Lena. In her mind, Emily is even more untouchable outside of "proper conflict" than Lena. In her mind, attacking someone through their family is the lowest possible thing a person could do and the idea sickens her.

She has not made the connection to exactly why she has such a visceral hatred of the idea - as it said in chapter 1, killing Moira didn't cure her, she's still got lots of messed up fragments of programming in her head despite having overcome it enough to regain deeper emotions and free will. She could really use a therapist.

Now the reason why she hasn't been stalking Lena lately is after she murdered Moira she was trying to regain some amount of mental stability and connection to her former self, and Sombra, the least insane of the trio, pointed out that spending all your time stalking someone was hardly stable behavior. To prove to herself that she was not ruled by her programming, she let it go and decided to be content with their rivalry ending in a draw.

And all that of course goes out the window when she finds out that something has seriously gone wrong for Lena. It also adds just a shadow of consent that Amélie needs to justify purchasing the pair and in her eyes restarting the game with her rival and ensuring it will continue, just under very different terms, and this time it will continue until a proper conclusion to their rivalry is reached. After all, they wouldn't have put themselves up for sale if death was preferable (or so her line of thinking goes, even if it is deeply flawed)

I will tell you right now that Widowmaker does not intend to try to hide her identity. It's an interesting idea though.

And as for the girls, I wont give away too much of their mindset but I will say that the money for Lena's treatments and other medical care is a huge reason for them, but there are other advantages to being owned by Widowmaker (beyond the obvious sexual advantages) that will be touched on.

Though it should be noted that Talon was destroyed by Sombra, Reaper, and Widowmaker, it was alluded to in chapter 1.

ALSOALSO did something happen to Winston in this universe to make Lena this desperate?

Nothing happened to Winston himself, but something has happened that cut off his easy access to the resources necessary for Lena's medical care. Even just considering what she needs in canon, she has a one of a kind miniature particle accelerator strapped to her chest that has to run 24/7 and fucks around with particles so exotic that it enables time travel. This has to be an incredibly expensive piece of equipment. Even though he is willing to do the labor for free, he needs resources and connections to get all the materials and tools and access to a proper lab; the cost would be staggering.

And that's assuming that there is nothing more to treating Lena's condition than just making sure she has her accelerator at all times. If there are any other complications, like potential health issues of having a particle accelerator strapped to you chest 24/7, then she's going to need to see a doctors and maybe specialists, potentially have other specialized equipment made to treat her, and the costs just keep on stacking until she's looking at a mountain of debt she cannot hope to pay for herself.

Which begs the question, how did she pay until now? Well the tech was initially paid for on Overwatch's dime, and then after the fall over overwatch she was a disabled military vet with a very positive and large public following, so which ever group of countries was responsible for paying for the medical care of overwatch vets was handling it. That did eventually get cut off however, and what exactly happened between when it did and when the fic starts is very important to the story, because as we all know I am incapable of writing porn longer than a one shot without making a plot out of it.

A few points, however, return to him with at least some degree of clarity: (1) he had made certain that Sombra got herself and Sigma and Widowmaker out, (2) he had taken measures to prevent the newly reformed Overwatch from getting caught in the blast, and (3) the look of utter hatred from Doomfist as Reaper stood before him with the dead man's switch remote detonation device in hand was beyond priceless.

He had held to those certainties even as his thumb started to release the button.

Characters that Inspired Will

Will's pronouns are ve/they/he in most contexts (for grammar clarity and simplicity, I use 've/ver/vis' in text, 'they/them/theirs' in most dialogue, and 'he/him/his' in other character dialogue who have a certain relationship to ver), but ve's mutogender, so whatever pronouns you want to use are fine and canon. It's impossible to misgender ver.

In alphabetical order:

2B (Nier: Automata): Though there are other influences (listed below), 2B's moveset is the main thing I picture when I think of how Will fights. That's in part because her weapons and Pod 042 are a huge and main influence in Will's gear. I'm also a sucker for thigh-high boots, and though it's for aesthetic purposes, I make it practical. The heavy armor/operator uniform has its influences too. There's some of 2B's personality as well. While more pragmatic in combat and reticent and aloof, there's a hatred for their jobs, and they can be sardonic towards others.

Ada Wong (Resident Evil): Dynamics and motives--Will would be the Ada to Galen's Leon. Her appearance is a bit of an influence, mostly in that Will looks like vis mom, and I picture Ada as the closest resemblance to her, both in personality and appearance.

Feitan Porter (HxH): The largest influence on Will's appearance: smol, black, parted hairstyle (but short and on the side for my bb, more like Sensei Wing), and pale. I also really like Feitan's JP voice and hear it when writing Will. There's some of his personality in there, too (I chose that shot for a reason, iykyk), though it's mostly the quietness and snarky remarks towards allies/friends.

L (Death Note): I say Feitan has more appearance influence than L because though I watched DN before HxH, it was Feitan who gave me more conscious intent first. It was L's details in the panda eyes, black hair, and pale skin that solidified me wanting this look for Will. Personality--not the biggest influence, but if there's a silly moment for Will, I do like to think of L in how he doesn't seem to realize/care it's socially awkward.

Panam Palmer (CP2077): This one is cut and dry: I like the straps and the jacket. More below in Rogue, Pilots, and Acrobats.

Rei Ayanami (NGE): Rei is a large influence in my tastes in characters in general. But I do take influence in her relationship with Gendo as Will's with Klaus. Rei is goal-oriented and obedient (at first), and her social development is stunted. Though the contexts are different and so therefore the specific arcs and dynamics, I like her story of coming to develop herself through her experiences. Design--it was the plug suits that gave me the idea for the uniforms in the first place. The first designs were far more like the plug suits until I changed what the uniform's purpose was. Symbolism--I chose that picture for a reason.

Rogue (X-Men): Will's ability is somewhat influenced by hers. I didn't (intentionally) base it off hers, but as I realized the similarities, I had to embrace that and learn from what's already been done. It's not nearly as complex as Rogue, only draining energy and life-force, but it can go any way, not just to ver. Design--I'm weak for the leo/unitard + cropped jacket combo.

Widowmaker (Overwatch): The grapple hook. Not a new or exclusive concept to use a grapple hook, but it's her in particular that comes to mind when I think of the tool. She utilizes it (at least in her cinematic) offensively, not just for mobility. I would say her fighting style is an influence, but she's a sharpshooter; Will is not. Ve can use a gun but has notably not the best aim.

(Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress): A lot of Anthem aesthetics come from KnK in general.

Ne*politan (R//WB//Y)*: As mentioned above, there are other fighting styles I imagine for Will, and Neo's comes up too, at least... in the first three seasons when the choreography was good. I have drawn Will in a Neo cosplay. They're both smol.

Taki Reizen (Maiden Rose)*: If you look at a picture of him, you'll see. Yeah. It's obvious.

*Though I love the art style, I can't really recommend the manga. I couldn't get through it, and it tainted my view of the "romance" genre. It was my first BL manga, and until 2021, it was my last. This is not to insult anyone who does like the manga or genre. We just have different tastes. That's okay.

IRL influences:

-Pilots: Ties into Panam's gear; compression pants are a necessity, as are helmets; call signs are common in the military

-Acrobats: Leotards. Will loves aerial dancing, and so connecting the design idea to vis concept felt fitting. Both in my design for ver and vis in-canon inspiration for the outfit concept.

Mercy got a damage boost nerf, which was fair. But like revert all the other nerfs u guys have made to her over time while yall were sidestepping touching her damage boost. pls. the only good thing left in her kit was damage boost.

Protection suzu got chnged. which idk how to feel about that

i just started using ana and sombra and guess who both got nerfed

kiriko no longer has a 3x multiplier to crits.... so sad. how am i supposed to absolutely bully widowmakers now? i hope 2.5x is still enough to handle them cuz i gotta sy 70% of the time my teammates seem to just ignore widow and let her kill them. AND I CANT OUT HEAL A ONE SHOT. so the solution i always went with was to just kill widows/hanzos every time i saw them so they couldnt do much and/or were forced to switch.

they did not just buff bastion. i do not approve. (but my opinion may be invalid as i have a deep rooted hatred for that character. well, ppl who play him. i think design/story wise hes cute)

Brigitte got nerfed. which i dont play her. but my sis does and i adore having a decent brig as my second support. just makes me feel so much secure. (also if our tank is being a coward i will just pocket her playing brig and make her the tank for a bit so we can clear some space. this has like a 75% success rate. which actually maybe stuff like that is why she got nerfed... oh well)

We do have some good news at least.

Lifeweaver got buffed. he needed it. and i love having a lifeweaver on my team (especially when i play dva)

Dva got her booster cooldown reduced. which im gonna say is the bestthing ever. bcuz dva is the only tank i play since i dont rlly like the rest of the tanks playstyles. and the only thing i would change about her is make the booster cool down a tiny bit shorter. there are just some scenarios where i need it to be off cooldown just a smidge faster so i think this will be good
