“BUT HE…” – THE SECRET OF INDIA’S WORLD CUP WIN AFTER MANY MANY YEARS!
Duke Jeyaraj India beat South Africa in a nerve-wracking game to win the T20 World Cup 2024 for India in the West Indies on 29 June 2024.  South Africa needed 30 runs off 30 balls with two set, explosive, batsmen in the middle. Yet they lost. South Africa needed 27 runs off 30 balls with “if it is in the arc, it will out of the park” David Miller batting and “back-foot to top-row” serial six…

hey! I wanna ask one thing, did you watch the highlights of the India vs Pakistan match from the 2022 t20 world cup? considering Ind vs Pak is today, star sports was showing the highlights of the 2022 T20 again. So the 2022 match, held at Melbourne, is hands down one of the biggest nailbiters in cricket history, and features a famous rescue act by Virat Kohli. He top-scored with 82 not out in a chase of 160, which enabled us to win the match by 4 wickets. And we had got off to a horror start, we were something like 40/4 at a point, and we weren't even near to the required run rate. That was when Virat and Hardik combined for a vital partnership. I remember that match crystal clear, India needed 22 from 8 balls, Haris Rauf was bowling, and Virat hit him for two successive sixes. The first of those sixes was just sublime and like, unreal, and was officially voted the ICC shot of the century. Not the year, not the decade, the whole damn century. 🤯🤯🥹🥹
So I was thinking of how this match would happen in Omegaverse, or more specifically how it would help improve public reaction to omegas playing. With Virat open and out omega, and his six being voted as the ICC shot of the century, people would be kinder to the idea of omegas in cricket, wouldn't they? Also, in my headcanon, Hardik is also an omega-- a bit like Stu, he's in hiding, pretending to be an alpha, despite VK's debut, because BCCI made it pretty loud and clear that Virat was a special case, and other omegas shouldn't expect the same privileges extended to them. So Hardik, just like Stu, is taking pills to conceal his identity and like Stu, conforming to a hyper-alpha lifestyle he doesn't subscribe to, but follows for fear of letting himself out accidentally. But Hardik has also come out as omega by the time this iconic match happens. So imagine this now: your team is in major trouble, both your openers (kl Rahul and rohit in this case), are gone, Suryakumar Yadav, the number one ranked batter in t20s has gotten out, and Axar Patel, the sole left-hander in your lineup has gotten run out in a terrible mix-up. Who's left now? Virat and Hardik. Two omegas, who despite their achievements can't seem to earn the kind of respect and awe that playing alphas do. These two omegas end up stitching together a partnership that takes us over the line against our arch-rivals in an utter humdinger. Pure cinema. 🤌🏻
Aww I really like that - and yeah Stuart isn't an exception; there's quite a few players around the world posing as alphas when they're really omegas.
The opinion of omegas will be much better come 2022, but they'll probably be an undertone of 'two omegas can't get this over the line' when it goes down to it. I don't think it's like the turning point because, as I said, omegas are much more accepted and respected by this time, but it'll definitely have positive effects

[ad_1] Andre Russell For a period of time, there was enough suspense surrounding whether Andre Russell would be retained or not by the Kolkata Knight Riders. Eventually, the franchise took the decision to retain their star all-rounder. It also means that they won’t have the RTM option in the auction. Shreyas Iyer, the current KKR skipper, however, will now be a part of the auction. Their final list is as follows: Sunil Narine (12 cr), Rinku Singh (13 cr), Varun Chakravarthy (12 cr), Harshit Rana (4 cr), Russell (12 cr) and Ramandeep Singh (4 cr). SunRisers Hyderabad forked out 23 crore for Heinrich Klaasen. They’ve also re-signed captain Pat Cummins, Abhishek Sharma, Travis Head and Nitish Reddy. With all of them being capped, SRH’s RTM can only be used on an uncapped player. Rishabh Pant won’t represent Delhi Capitals for the next season. Instead, he will be back in the auction. Axar Patel, Tristan Stubbs, Kuldeep Yadav and Abhishek Porel will form their core.  KL Rahul, the LSG skipper, has decided to part ways with the franchise. Nicholas Pooran (21 cr), Ravi Bishnoi (11 cr), Mayank Yadav (11 cr), Mohsin Khan (4 cr) and Ayush Badoni (4 cr) are the cricketers who have been retained by LSG. On the other hand, Sanju Samson  (18 cr), Yashasvi Jaiswal (18 cr), Riyan Parag (14 cr), Dhruv Jurel (14 cr), Shimron Hetmyer (11 cr) and Sandeep Sharma (4cr) have been retained by Rajasthan Royals. So, Jos Buttler, one of their mainstays, has been let go of. RR won’t be able to use the RTM in the auction. For Mumbai Indians, Jasprit Bumrah (18 cr), Rohit Sharma (16.35 cr), Tilak Varma (8 cr), Hardik Pandya (16.35 cr) and Suryakumar Yadav (16.35 cr) make it to the retention list. Hardik will yet again lead the side. Gujarat Titans’ list includes Rashid Khan (18 cr), Shubman Gill (16.5 cr), Sai Sudarshan (8.5 cr), Rahul Tewatia (4 cr) and Shahrukh Khan (4 cr). Samson will continue to lead the set-up. Chennai Super Kings, the five-time champions, have also issued their retained players’ catalogue – Ruturaj Gaikwad, Matheesha Pathirana, Shivam Dube, Ravindra Jadeja and MS Dhoni. As per the new rules, Dhoni is now an uncapped retention, so they can still utilise the RTM. Meanwhile, the Royal Challengers Bengaluru have gone on to retain Virat Kohli (21 cr), Rajat Patidar and Yash Dayal. So, Faf du Plessis, the incumbent skipper, doesn’t find a place. T20 World Cup 2024 final: India wins in Barbados after 13-year draught
The ICC Men’s Twenty20 World Cup was won by India in a nail-biting final, edging out South Africa by seven runs. The match was a fitting climax to a sensational tournament, with both unbeaten teams battling fiercely for the prestigious title. India’s triumph marked their first T20 World Cup win in over a decade, while South Africa’s quest for their inaugural world title continues.
The Epic Battle Unfolds
The stage was set at the Kensington Oval, Barbados, where cricket fans worldwide were treated to an unforgettable final. India’s captain won the toss and opted to bat first, setting the tone for a high-stakes encounter.
India's Innings: Kohli's Masterclass
India posted a formidable total of 176/7, thanks in large part to an attritional 76 from the ever-reliable Virat Kohli. Despite losing key wickets early, with Rohit Sharma and Rishabh Pant falling in quick succession to Keshav Maharaj, and Suryakumar Yadav being dismissed cheaply by Kagiso Rabada, India managed to stabilize their innings.
Virat Kohli and Axar Patel formed a vital partnership, adding 72 runs for the fourth wicket. Their stand was broken by a superb piece of fielding from Quinton de Kock, who ran out Axar with a direct hit. Kohli continued to anchor the innings, forging another crucial partnership with Shivam Dube. However, South Africa made late inroads, with Anrich Nortje’s double strike in the final over, removing Dube and Ravindra Jadeja, limiting India’s total.
South Africa's Chase: De Kock and Klaasen's Heroics
South Africa’s chase began on a shaky note, losing Reeza Hendricks to a perfect delivery from Jasprit Bumrah in the second over, followed by Aiden Markram’s dismissal by Arshdeep Singh. Quinton de Kock steadied the ship, partnering with Tristan Stubbs for a 58-run stand.
After Stubbs fell to Axar Patel, Heinrich Klaasen joined de Kock, and the duo kept South Africa’s hopes alive. De Kock’s valuable 39 came to an end as he was caught by Kuldeep Yadav off Arshdeep Singh. David Miller and Klaasen then took the attack to the Indian bowlers, bringing the required run-rate down to a run a ball with 30 runs needed.
However, Klaasen’s departure for 52, caught behind off Hardik Pandya, and Miller’s dismissal in the final over to a brilliant catch by Suryakumar Yadav, turned the tide in India’s favor. Despite the best efforts of Keshav Maharaj and Kagiso Rabada, South Africa fell agonizingly short, finishing eight runs shy of the target.
Fan Reactions:
– “What a final! Kudos to both teams for such a thrilling game. Congrats India! #INDvsSA #T20WorldCupFinal”
– “Virat Kohli’s 76 was a masterclass under pressure. Well-deserved win for India! #ViratKohli #Cricket”
– “Heartbreak for South Africa, but they played brilliantly. Klaasen and De Kock were superb. #QuintonDeKock #HeinrichKlaasen”
India’s triumph in the T20 World Cup final against South Africa will be remembered as one of the most thrilling matches in cricket history. As the cricketing world celebrates, the players and fans look forward to more exciting contests and the next opportunity for glory on the global stage.
This triumph propels India into the final, where they will face South Africa. The anticipation is palpable, as fans gear up for what promises to be an epic showdown. The team’s journey has been nothing short of inspirational, marked by determination, skill, and a never-say-die attitude.

India cruise pass Ireland as Pant returns
by Rex Clementine
India were clinical in their opening encounter of the T-20 World Cup in New York cruising past Ireland with an eight wicket win with more than seven overs to spare. It’s a good warm-up for one of the pre-tournament favorites before the epic clash against arch-rivals Pakistan later this week.
As for Ireland, they did not have the strength to test one of the strongest sides in the competition. Nevertheless, the experience of playing against big boys would have stood in good stead for them.
One of the highlights during the game was the return of Rishabh Pant in India colors again. The hard-hitting wicketkeeper batsman capable of changing the course of a game within a couple of overs was involved in a nasty motor accident two years ago. After several surgeries and extensive rehabilitation, he had featured in domestic cricket and this was his first international game.
India have been presented with a comfortable schedule for the tournament. They have been based in New York and played their warm-up game against Bangladesh there while three of their four first round games will be played in New York.
Jasprit Bumrah was unplayable as his three overs cost just six runs. While Bumrah will be always tough to play, India coach Rahul Dravid will take heart with the fact that his other bowlers were firing on all cylinders. Dravid is in his last series as India Coach.
Hardik Pandya finished with three wickets while Arshdeep Singh shared the new ball and claimed two wickets.
The Irish folded away inside 16 overs which meant that the spin options of Axar Patel and Ravindra Jadeja were required for only one over each.
Rohit Sharma has had several opening partners during his career and for this tournament he is having a new partner in Virat Kohli. The former captain was dismissed in the fifth ball, but there was no stopping Rohit.
Rohit smashed 57 off 37 balls with four fours and three sixes before retiring.
Pant was at number three and finished on 36 not out off 26 balls.
With this kind of explosive batting power with the likes of Rohit, Kohli and Pant, a strong middle order comprising Suryakumar Yadav and Shivam Dube followed by more fire power comprising Pandya, Jadeja and Axar Patel, India have one of the strongest sides in the competition. It will be no surprise if they go all the way. Fielding is their only drawback.
India have been a spectacular failure in ICC events having not won a tournament since 2011. They will be trying to change that during this competition.

"Love To Look At Things In Positive Manner": Sanju Samson Ahead Of ICC T20 WC 2024 Opener
Ahead of their opener against Ireland in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, India wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson said that he positively looks at things while reflecting on failures and successes in his career.
Samson, who made his international debut in 2014 in a T20I match, has had ups and downs, having played just 25 T20Is and 16 ODIs for India over the last decade.
His T20 stats have been disappointing as he has scored just 374 runs at an average of 18.70 with one half-century. a strike rate of 133.09 and the best score of 77.
Samson has made his way into the T20 WC squad after a career-best Indian Premier League (IPL) which helped take Rajasthan Royals (RR) to the playoffs. He scored 531 runs at an average of 48.27 and a strike rate of 153.46, with five half-centuries. His best score was 86*.
The Kerala-born cricketer asserted that at the time when a cricketer is young and successful, he tries to skip a few lessons.
"I love to look at things in a more positive manner. If it's a failure or setback, you learn through it. When you are young and successful, you skip a few lessons. I am blessed with my talent, which comes naturally to me as a batter" Samson said in a video posted by BCCI.
The 29-year-old further stated that right from the moment he arrived in the United States, he had taken out all the things regarding Indian Premier which is in his mind.
"Right from the moment I landed here, IPL has been away from my mind. I tell myself that I am somewhere where people dream of going. Then I was like, what else do I need to do? Mentally I did not have to motivate myself. Things happen automatically. When you meet Rohit and Virat, you get inspired and there is no looking back. How can Sanju help India win more games, what it is like to be a WC player for India? I am very grateful for the support wherever I go," the wicketkeeper added.
In the end, Samson said that he loves to change and adapt according to the conditions.
"The biggest lesson as a cricketer and human is that the change is constant. You cannot say that this is the only way to play. I love to change and adapt as per conditions. You can't be the same Sanju Samson," the right-hand batter concluded.
India will start their T20 World Cup campaign on June 5 against Ireland at the newly constructed Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York.
The blockbuster clash between India and Pakistan will take place on June 9. India will later play tournament co-hosts USA (June 12) and Canada (June 15) to wrap up their Group A matches.
In the tournament, India will be aiming to end their ICC trophy drought, having last won the ICC Champions Trophy in 2013. Since then, India has reached the 50-over World Cup final in 2023, semifinal in 2015 and 2019, the title clash of the ICC World Test Championship in 2021 and 2023, T20 WC final in 2014, semifinals in 2016 and 2022 but failed to secure a big ICC trophy.
India squad: Rohit Sharma (C), Hardik Pandya (VC), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Rishabh Pant (WK), Sanju Samson (WK), Shivam Dube, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal, Arshdeep Singh, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohd. T20 World Cup: Hardik Pandya joins Indian team in New York, posts photos
India all-rounder Hardik Pandya joined the national team in New York ahead of the team's warm-up match in the T20 World Cup 2024. Pandya, who did not travel with the first batch of the Indian contingent to the USA posted photos after linking up with the team. The vice-captain of the Indian team, Pandya, took to Instagram to share the training images.
Tumblr media
This will be Hardik's first assignment with the national team since the ODI World Cup 2023. Hardik had slipped on his bowling mark and injured his ankle in the Bangladesh game at the World Cup. The all-rounder missed series against Australia, South Africa and Afghanistan and directly played in the Indian Premier League. Pandya will be hopeful to turn around his fortunes after having a terrible time with MI.
Pandya is not the only player to travel separately. The likes of Sanju Samson and Rinku Singh have travelled alone and linked up with the Indian team in New York. The Board of Control for Cricket in India has had to adapt this approach due to the varying commitments of the players for their respective IPL franchises.
Indian players have travelled in batches to the US. The first batch of players included Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah and Rishabh Pant amongst others. The second batch had the RR trio of Yuzvendra Chahal, Avesh Khan and Yashasvi Jaiswal.
Batters: Rohit Sharma (captain), Virat Kohli, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Suryakumar Yadav.
Wicketkeepers: Rishabh Pant, Sanju Samson.
All-rounders: Hardik Pandya (vice-captain), Shivam Dube, Axar Patel, Ravindra Jadeja.
Bowlers: Yuzvendra Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh, Mohammed Siraj
India play their only warm-up game ahead of the T20 World Cup on June 1 against Bangladesh. The entire team is expected to be available for that game.

[ad_1] Gautam Gambhir with Rohit Sharma (PC: X) Subhayan Chakrabarty in Pune India’s journey to qualify for the World Test Championship is currently precarious, with the future participation of veteran players like Rohit Sharma and Ravichandran Ashwin in doubt due to potential retirements. Their departure could usher in a challenging era of transition for the Indian cricket team. But who are the potential replacements of some of the senior-most players of the Indian team – Rohit, Virat Kohli, Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja and Mohammed Shami – when the time comes for them to bid adieu to the longest format? The likelihood of Rohit Sharma continuing through another WTC cycle seems slim, given his age. Similarly, Ashwin, who would be 41, is also likely to step back. Kohli is 35, Jadeja is 35 and Shami is 34 and the Indian team management should start grooming their replacements in the future in a bid to ensure a smoother transition. Batting options like Yashasvi Jaiswal, Abhimanyu Easwaran, Ruturaj Gaikwad, and B Sai Sudharsan provide some optimism on the batting front. The depth in bowling isn’t exactly thin but could be labelled as ‘raw’. Avesh Khan, Yash Dayal, Prasidh Krishna, Harshit Rana, Vidwath Kaverappa, Khaleel Ahmed are some names who are being looked as potential options for the Indian pace attack in the future with Harshit and Prasidh even being part of India’s squad for the tour of Australia. The likes of Yudhvir Singh Charak, Gurjapneet Singh, Vaibhav Arora, Anshul Kamboj are few other options but they need to perform consistently at the domestic level. For the Latest Sports News: Click Here Rohit Sharma (PC: X) India may have found a replacement for Hardik Pandya in Test cricket in Nitish Kumar Reddy, who is also part of India’s squad for Australia series, but he is still an unproven product in international circuits. While he has a terrific record in age-group cricket and looks like a special talent, he has just played 21 FC matches and will have to maintain his fitness levels when he becomes a regular in the Indian team. In batting, Yashasvi Jaiswal has claimed an opener’s spot, and with Rohit Sharma’s retirement anticipated soon after the WTC Final, Abhimanyu Easwaran, Ruturaj Gaikwad, and Sai Sudarsan are in contention. Yet, each brings different challenges; Easwaran’s reputation for underperforming in high-pressure scenarios versus his impressive domestic record, Gaikwad’s flair in limited-overs cricket contrasted with his modest first-class stats, and Sudharsan’s potential to adapt across formats. Out of all, Sudarshan passes the eye test in red-ball cricket best but will have to prove himself in India colours when he gets the chance. For Kohli’s coveted number four position, Devdutt Padikkal offers a stylish option. Sarfaraz Khan has shown promise but his adaptability across various conditions awaits validation. Rinku Singh, known more for his T20 finishing, has the stats, average of 54 in FC, but selectors need to show faith in him for red-ball cricket. In spin, Axar Patel fits well on turning tracks but, unlike Jadeja, might struggle elsewhere. Youngsters like Musheer Khan and Manav Suthar are potential future stars, though their development is ongoing. Washington Sundar stands out as a viable all-rounder option post the Ashwin-Jadeja era, with Tanush Kotian and Saransh Jain possibly following in Ashwin’s footsteps, though they would have to play more shadow tours to ensure a smoother transition. While the Gautam Gambhir-led team management and Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee have plenty of options to replace the ageing icons of the game, they would have ensure that the younger names get to start their international careers on home soil rather than throwing them under the cosh in alien overseas conditions.
