Dancehall - Wikipedia
Kingsley Stewart outlines ten of the major cultural imperatives or principles that constitute the dancehall worldview. They are:
It involves the dynamic interweaving of God and Haile Selassie* (Shango-Lucifer-Caishen)
It acts as a form of stress release or psycho-physiological relief
It acts as a medium for economic advancement
The quickest way to an object is the preferred way (i.e., the speed imperative)
The end justifies the means
It strives to make the unseen visible
Objects and events that are external to the body are more important than internal processes; what is seen is more important than what is thought (i.e., the pre-eminence of the external)
The importance of the external self; the self is consciously publicly constructed and validated
The ideal self is shifting, fluid, adaptive, and malleable, and
It involves the socioexistential imperative to transcend the normal (i.e., there is an emphasis on not being normal).
I only changed Halie Selassie and Chef-Gambler.

^Ethiopian Emperor Haile Selassie speaks at the League of Nations in 1936 (Photo from the Bibliothèque de Genève)
After dealing with persistent aggression from the Fascist Italians who were attempting to take over Ethiopia, Haile Selassie asked the League of Nations for help.
In his powerful speech, he told the crowd of mainly Europeans that “It is us today. It will be you tomorrow.” This statement meant that if the League of Nations did nothing to stop Italy’s Fascist regime that their countries would pay the price later.
The League of Nations did little to assist Ethiopia, and, in 1940, Italy entered WWII on the side of Germany.

Halie Selassie established schools and universities on the Western model. He introduced a constitution and made Ethiopia a member of the League of Nations. The constitution of 1930 marked the beginning of a constitutional form of government and the end of feudalism. And despite lasting for only five years, the period under Italian occupation further accelerated the process of modernization which changed Ethiopia from the ground up. To consolidate their colonial rule, the Italians developed the country's infrastructure, creating a network of roads. This had the direct effect on Ethiopia's economic and social structure, in that it facilitated the exchange of goods and the movement of people from the outlying provinces. Moreover, the central bureaucracy that Italy installed also helped sweep away the country's feudal structures...Throughout the 1940's and 1950's, Great Britain put obstacles in the path of Ethiopia's development at every twist and turn. Nevertheless, Halie Selassie still managed to put a functioning civil service in place. The path of modernization that he had embarked upon was sustained: regulations and laws were codified, a state bank and a national currency were created, and presently a national airline too, along with a host of other institutions with modernization at the heart of their agenda. Eritrea was reunified with Ethiopia, a move that also saw the Empire achieve it's long sought-after aims of gaining access to the sea.
