Generational abuse doesn't just *end*. You break the cycle and there are still echoes because your child grows up without a set of grandparents, or is fucked up by those grandparents, or is cut off from the rest of the extended family, or gets fucked up presents at Christmas, or wonders why they get treated different at family gatherings.
A lot of LGBTQ fiction authors write about that kind of isolation because it's so present in their lives, but it feels rare in media and rarer in cis hetero media where everyone knows they're isolated and lonely but apparently don't have the balls to say "My bio family sucks and is abusive, fuck this shit."
#abuse tw#now im just ranting about Turning Red i guess#Encanto was worse because they framed the whole deal of generational trauma on one person and then they recognized The Error of Their Ways#and suddenly things were better#although they werent a super fucked up family in the first place#which honestly was better than Coco#because fuck Coco#had a drunken rant with a friend at field camp about how stupid Coco's storyline was about fucking Hispanic generational emotional abuse#and getting beat with la chancla and how the WHOLE STORY WOULDNT HAVE HAPPENED IF THEY WERE JUST.
