Wondering about Maeron's HOTD verse. I'm thinking that she's the younger sister of Rhaenyra, that typical Baelon's twin that survived. She grows up with lukewarm love from her sister (who's preoccupied with things going on in her own life, but I'd let Rhaenyra writers have a say) and hardly any love from her father. She knows Viserys doesn't love her like Rhaenyra, but he'll gaslight her everytime she tries to bring it up.

She drifts towards Alicent for a mother/big sister figure and ends up believing in the Seven instead of Valyrian gods. When the turmoil amongst her family rises (the incident with Aemond's eye), she asks for permission to become a septa and cuts ties with most of her family. There are only a select few that she sends letters to and allows to visit her. During this time, she becomes more and more beloved by the people for her humility and piety + services she does for them as a septa and even before.

When the Dance begins, she uses her faith as an excuse to stay neutral and doesn't back anyone's claim. She is basically a non entity until the end of the dance, when Aegon II (*****SPOILER for those who didn't read the book, but let's be honest show verse probably won't follow it.....) is poisoned and dies. The people petition for Maeron to have the throne and it's not ignored. After a time of turmoil, perhaps a peaceful figurehead is what they need. They consider having her as a regent until Aegon III is old enough to take the throne.

Her regency was initially awkward for both her and Aegon III, as she had only met him as a baby when Rhaenyra brought him and Viserys II to her sept. But, she managed to instill some values of humility and honor in him that he kept as an adult. She clashed heads with C.regan S.tark often, as she thought him to be bull headed and stuck in his ways. The H.our of the Wolf was a trying time and Maeron herself was even under suspicion for Aegon II's death, but was found innocent.

Upon Aegon III's full rule, she stayed in the Red Keep and lived out her life helping educate his descendants. B.aelor the Blessed entertained the idea of building a statue of her in the Court of Beauty/Maidenvault, but she talked him out of it. Upon her death, Aegon IV ordered it to be built. This was much to the secret humor of the court, who say Maeron died to keep herself from seeing out Aegon IV's dishonorable rule.
