Here we go: days three and five of #bweirdOCtober, with one of my oldest and most changed characters, a Werewolf: the Apocalypse character who changed so much he became his own daughter! In the photo is Moon Doggie, who I created as an NPC mentor for a tabletop game back in 1996 or 1997. At the time, he was a drifter who slept on the beach, had uncanny survival skills, and possessed great knowledge of the spiritual planes. Many many years later, my old game runner invited me to play in a new game. "Okay," I said, "but I want my old dude back."
Lucky me, my game runner never threw away any character sheets if he thought he could reuse them in other stories down the line, and we were able to rework Doggie into the pack leader that brought all of the other players new characters together. I based his newer version's personality on the Dude from the Big Lebowski, and we amped up his connection to the spirit world.
That connection lead to his downfall. Despite many heroic moments, he still considered himself somewhat of a failure and coward, because no one ever heard of an old werewolf. All the true heroes were brought down in battle with their enemies, not putting on Icy Hot after dispatching fomori. And that allowed some less benevolent voices to speak to him. He was brought down during a brutal attack on reality in his city...
.... and then brought back to life, unthinkably, as a teenaged girl. His daughter, who hadn't actually existed aside from as a convenient lie to pay a fae debt once upon a time. Built from scratch, given the old man's soul, and brought back to rebuild what had fallen down when the world broke.
They like having young healthy joints again, at least....
