In the Willamette Valley of Oregon, the long study of a butterfly once thought extinct has led to a chain reaction of conservation in a long-cultivated region.
The conservation work, along with helping other species, has been so successful that the Fender’s blue butterfly is slated to be downlisted from Endangered to Threatened on the Endangered Species List—only the second time an insect has made such a recovery.
[Note: "the second time" is as of the article publication in November 2022.]
To live out its nectar-drinking existence in the upland prairie ecosystem in northwest Oregon, Fender’s blue relies on the help of other species, including humans, but also ants, and a particular species of lupine.
After Fender’s blue was rediscovered in the 1980s, 50 years after being declared extinct, scientists realized that the net had to be cast wide to ensure its continued survival; work which is now restoring these upland ecosystems to their pre-colonial state, welcoming indigenous knowledge back onto the land, and spreading the Kincaid lupine around the Willamette Valley.
First collected in 1929 [more like "first formally documented by Western scientists"], Fender’s blue disappeared for decades. By the time it was rediscovered only 3,400 or so were estimated to exist, while much of the Willamette Valley that was its home had been turned over to farming on the lowland prairie, and grazing on the slopes and buttes.

Pictured: Female and male Fender’s blue butterflies.
Now its numbers have quadrupled, largely due to a recovery plan enacted by the Fish and Wildlife Service that targeted the revival at scale of Kincaid’s lupine, a perennial flower of equal rarity. Grown en-masse by inmates of correctional facility programs that teach green-thumb skills for when they rejoin society, these finicky flowers have also exploded in numbers.
[Note: Okay, I looked it up, and this is NOT a new kind of shitty greenwashing prison labor. This is in partnership with the Sustainability in Prisons Project, which honestly sounds like pretty good/genuine organization/program to me. These programs specifically offer incarcerated people college credits and professional training/certifications, and many of the courses are written and/or taught by incarcerated individuals, in addition to the substantial mental health benefits (see x, x, x) associated with contact with nature.]
The lupines needed the kind of upland prairie that’s now hard to find in the valley where they once flourished because of the native Kalapuya people’s regular cultural burning of the meadows.
While it sounds counterintuitive to burn a meadow to increase numbers of flowers and butterflies, grasses and forbs [a.k.a. herbs] become too dense in the absence of such disturbances, while their fine soil building eventually creates ideal terrain for woody shrubs, trees, and thus the end of the grassland altogether.
Fender’s blue caterpillars produce a little bit of nectar, which nearby ants eat. This has led over evolutionary time to a co-dependent relationship, where the ants actively protect the caterpillars. High grasses and woody shrubs however prevent the ants from finding the caterpillars, who are then preyed on by other insects.
Now the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde are being welcomed back onto these prairie landscapes to apply their [traditional burning practices], after the FWS discovered that actively managing the grasslands by removing invasive species and keeping the grass short allowed the lupines to flourish.
By restoring the lupines with sweat and fire, the butterflies have returned. There are now more than 10,000 found on the buttes of the Willamette Valley."

Tyrant's Favorite | Sukuna Ryomen
Tumblr media
Part 6: Harvest Season
King!SukunaRyomen x Servant!FemReader
Summary: You used to be just another servant among the army of humans operating under the command of the terrible king, Sukuna Ryomen. An ordinary human who only knows how to wash, clean and cook. Until one day, he notices something in you that you hadn't seen before.
Tags: MDNI. +18. Murder. Blood. Cannibalism. Sukuna Ryomen Is The Warning Itself. Nudity. Sexual Display. Vaginal. Fingering.Sometimes fluff, sometimes angst.

Beginning. | ← Previous | Next →
The cold morning tickled your toes protruding from the blankets that barely covered your body. You curled into a ball as you slept with your five sisters while the sun peeked through the hills of the green valley. They were squashed together like sardines to make the most of the small bed's cramped space. The room in the cabin where they lived was practically empty, they only had a small closet with all their clothes, some stuffed animals for decoration and a semi-transparent white cloth that served as a curtain. You were in your fifth dream when you felt a hand pulling your foot. You snapped your eyes open to see your mother at the end of the bed.
“Let’s go to the market,” she asked you as you whittled your eyes wide awake.
You nodded in response so as not to wake your sisters. You carefully slipped out of bed to get dressed in a brown dress, you wore it so much that it already had holes in the skirt. Your mother had sold most of your fancy dresses, so your sisters could buy new ones for the dances they were invited to. Your mother was always obsessed with the idea that one of her daughters would marry a rich man and take them all out of the misery in which they lived. Every morning she used to repeat the same thing: “Up my future princesses because men don't flirt themselves.” You quietly left the room and picked up the old worn-out basket they used to carry the loaf of bread and potatoes they could afford to buy.
Since your father died a couple of years ago, money was always tight. Your mother, to keep her hopes up and not starve to death, had slowly sold all the furniture in the house. She started with the living room, then the dining room, then her bed and then the decorations. Little by little, they were running out of options. Someone had to sacrifice in the work field, and your mother would not be one of them.
The sun was barely rising over the green horizon. It was too early to go to the human market, but you just followed your mother without question. The grass crunched under your worn boots and the cool air ruffled your hair. As you walked along the path you had created from the many times you had gone to town, your mother was quieter than usual. She was a hard woman to keep quiet, always having to have an opinion on something. “The mornings are horrible,” “it hasn't rained in months,” “everything is more expensive.” She always prattled on about any topic that crossed her mind, but today she was different. She just looked straight ahead, walked hurriedly and hadn't even wished you good morning. “Maybe she wants some peace,” you thought. You should have realized it at the time.
You knew you reached the main town when the smell of fish intensified. Every morning, fishermen set out to sell their booty among the busy main streets of the Sukuna kingdom. A place full of humans who were ruled by curses. Since King Sukuna had conquered their lands along with his army more than five hundred years ago, the humans who had already lived there for centuries became easy prey for the hideous deformed monsters. Half of the population was eaten, while the other was left alone as soon as their stomachs were full. The only thing that stopped them from eating more was their own limits. From then on, the curses began to coexist with the humans. Only instead of treating them as equals, it was a cow-butcher relationship.
Since the curses owned the main town, it was rare to see so many humans walking down the street. They were all heading in the same direction, the gloomy castle of King Sukuna. A striking architectural structure of charcoal color and huge windows with blood-red roses. It was so large that despite being surrounded by towering walls, you could still admire the rest of the castle and its imposing watchtowers. Your astonished gaze kept going up to admire the terrible place. Your eyes could not continue because the top of its towers were hidden among the gray clouds and the vultures flying overhead.
Unfortunately, they had not arrived at the market but at the gigantic wooden bridge that led into the castle. Several curses in fine armor paraded around the perimeter as you watched two of them lead a lady into the castle. Your breath hitched as you realized what day it was. Today was harvest day. Once a year, King Sukuna asks those who want to work for him to report to the castle and in return their families would be rewarded financially, but everyone knows it's a trap. No one knows exactly what goes on inside the castle, but a tyrant who mistreats his people does not usually offer “work.” All the people know that once you enter his castle, you don't get out. Even though it is known that entering his castle was like entering a torture machine of your own free will. People in need of money or resources send older relatives or children they can't support to get rid of them.
You dropped the basket in shock at why your mother had only woken you up so early and was so quiet. She was about to sell you. As soon as the basket creaked against the floor, you ran away to avoid your painful fate as the daughter who was betrayed by her mother. You didn't manage to run that far, because two curses pinned you to the ground. You screamed, kicked and twisted your body in failed attempts to escape. Your eyes filled with tears as soon as the curses lifted you off the ground to drag you back to the castle. It was the end, you knew that for a fact.
“We must part ways, my adorable daughter,” your mother said goodbye without looking you in the eye.
“Are you really going to sell me to the tyrant? You know what happens to those who enter!” You yelled while tears fell desperately down your cheeks.
“Don't be like that, you know we need money. The king may be a tyrant, but sometimes he is generous,” she said as he showed you the sack of gold coins the curses give her for you.
100 gold coins. That was all you were worth. All your years of life equaled a year's worth of food. Not even luxuries, expensive furniture or beautiful clothes. Your mother had traded you to eat one more year without worry. You hang your head in defeat. She was treating you as if you were a nuisance. One more pitiful mouth to feed.
“I can work at the market, at sea, in mining, in anything!” You protested.
“How are you going to work there? I educated you as a young lady so you could marry a rich man, and you failed me,” she emphasized, spitting in your face the disappointment she felt.
Your chest ached, snot was building up in your nose and your eyes were beginning to redden from the hot tears coming from your sad heart. Your head was starting to hurt, you couldn't believe this was happening to you. You were always a good daughter. You were the perfect daughter, polite and compliant. What have you done wrong? The frustration of not being able to do anything was eating you alive.
“Think of your sisters. With this money, they will be able to buy new dresses to impress rich men. Next week there is going to be a ball, they say King Gojo will be there,” your mother said excitedly.
“Say goodbye to your mother, we must get you to the castle.” A curse ordered you with a harsh voice.
“I don't have a mother anymore,” you mumbled between sobs.
“My sweet daughter, don't be like that…” your mother called you with disappointment.
“And you no longer have a daughter,” your mother gasped, surprised at the minimum act of rebellion.
From the time you were a little girl, your parents knew you would be a good girl. You always did everything orderly, knew what to say to stay out of trouble and educated your sisters when they were wrong. You were the perfect daughter in their eyes. The only thing you weren't good at was talking to men. At dances none of them would come up to you and none of them would catch your eye. While the sister next in age to you, Yorozu, danced with almost everyone, you always stood on the sidelines as you watched the night unfold. Your mother always scolded you on the way home for not being good enough to get a husband, but that never mattered to you. You knew inside that someday you would marry a good man who could see your true potential.
Curses threw you into the parade ground and closed the gate behind you. You felt worse than dirt itself, you wanted to lie on the ground where you belonged. You wished the earth would swallow you up and disappear at that instant, anyway, you had nothing left to fight for. You didn't even have the strength to cry anymore.
A loud sobbing sound reached your ears, causing you to look up. A little blond boy was crying his eyes out as he desperately searched for his mother. You were in the same situation as him, only you didn't have a little teddy bear to cheer you up. In a place full of old people, no one wanted to pay attention to you. No one had enough energy to soothe the crying of a frightened child.
You stood up and dusted off your dress. Quietly, you approached the child with a red face from crying. He was dressed in a torn white shirt and dirty overalls. He couldn't have been more than 10 years old. You got down on your knees to stand by his height and wiped away his tears with your thumbs before shaking off his clothes.
“I want my mommy,” the boy shouted as he sniffled. A lump rose in your throat. You wanted the one you used to have too.
“She'll be back. You just have to be a good boy, alright?” You asked with a weak smile. The boy nodded as he rubbed his watery eyes. “Whatever you do, just behave well and she will come back.”
“Do you promise me?” he asked you between sobs, raising his little pinky towards you.
“Of course,” you answered, intertwining his little finger with yours.
An old woman approached you both. A granny with a cotton head, raisin skin and a sketchy smile, handed him a piece of candy she had in the pocket of her once-white apron. The boy gladly accepted it, forgetting for a second why he was crying in the first place. Children were always easy to please.
“Poor little boy. He hasn't even started his life, and he's already this lucky,” the old woman whispered to you as you watched him eat the candy and play with his teddy bear perched on the grass. You could only nod in sorrow.
After an hour of waiting and watching the curses hurl more sold humans onto the parade ground. The doors of the gigantic castle opened. A white-haired person with a red stripe and splendid white robes made an appearance along with a scroll under their arm. You stepped in front of the boy to hide him behind you.
“Welcome to this year's harvest. Thanks to your relatives or communities, you have been chosen as the most useless beings of this year. So the great king Sukuna has decided to give you the opportunity to work for him as servants,” The person began to read the scroll aloud in front of everyone.
A collective sigh was heard when he read the word “useless”. Most of them, being elderly, already knew that they were only a burden to their families. Therefore, there was no need to stress it further. It was like squeezing lemon on an open wound.
“As every year, we give those who are completely useless a chance to leave. King Sukuna needs real servants and not stupid dogs.” Along with that announcement, the castle gates opened.
There it was, the door that would lead them to freedom right under their noses. Hearing that, most of them ran towards their escape route, desperate to return home to their loved ones. You took the child in your arms and were about to run away until the thought that the offer was too good to be true settled in your mind. “Those who go in, never come back” you thought.
“Come on, dear, let's go,” the kind old woman asked you while she pulled you by the arm to escape quickly.
“If they do this every year, why doesn't anyone come back home?” You asked her. “It's a trap, I can feel it.” The old woman looked at you puzzled at first, but understood your point after processing it for a couple of seconds. She was so blinded by the brilliant exit that she hadn't boasted about it.
Once the first to escape was about to reach the door, the grille slammed shut. The evil laughter of hundreds of curses echoed through the place like a war chant. In less than a second, a gigantic flock of armored curses began to eat all those who were about to flee. A massacre, desperate screams and blood spraying everywhere. You had never seen anything like it in your life. You knew the curses were evil and ate humans, but you never thought it would be such a disastrous sight. You covered the child’s eyes. The lady covered her face as she realized the hell they had been sent to.
“Traitor dogs do not deserve to live,” the white-haired person said as soon as no human who had tried to escape was left alive.
“You were right…” the old woman whispered next to you between silent sobs.
You looked back at the front of the castle while your eyes were still drowning in tears. The person who was summoning you was glaring at you, as if offended by your mere presence. You looked around, less than half had stayed. The other elders were crying, vomiting and some lucky ones hadn't even turned around to see what was happening. Your arms were shaking from the cold of the morning and the terror that consumed you whole. You squeezed the child against your body to protect it. A little creature was not to blame for being in a place like that. You had to protect him, it was the only way he would have a chance to survive.
“I congratulate you for surviving the first round. My name is Uraume, and I am the right hand of your king, Sukuna Ryomen,” they introduced themselves in a loud, monotone voice so that we could all hear them. “Next you will introduce yourselves to the king. He will have the final word as to your fate,” they explained before returning to the castle.
After finishing their feast, the other curses rounded up the survivors to form a line in front of the castle gates. They were sheep being led by shepherds who were also wolves. No one said a word, they only obeyed by bodily proximity to where they were supposed to be. You did not let go of the child at any time, you had already proclaimed yourself as his guardian. Maybe it wasn't the best idea in hell, but you knew it was the right thing to do. You were willing to protect him as if he were one of your little sisters.
Your beloved little sisters. You hid your face in the little boy's hair so no one would see you cry. Once you entered the castle, you would never leave, either by slavery or death. You would never see your lovely sisters again. You would never see them play, comb each other's hair or sing happily after dinner. You cursed the time when you had grown up and were not woman enough not to marry someone. In your mother's eyes you were a disappointment and were to be discarded. You only prayed internally that your sisters would not have the same fate. Yorozu was only a year younger than you. If she did not marry soon, she too would be sold.
The survivors passed 5 at a time into the castle. The walls were so thick that they could not hear what was happening on the other side. There were 5 more people left, and it was your turn to pass next to the old woman, who was repeating the same silent prayer several times. The curse at the front of the line signaled the 5 people to pass, making everyone move in sync.
“The child must enter,” the curse ordered you.
“But they already let 5 in. It's his turn to go in when I go in,” you defended, holding the little boy tightly.
The curse smiled maliciously before snatching the child from your hands. The difference in strength was crazy. You managed to grab the child by his white shirt to prevent him from being stolen. The child began to cry out loud because the curse had hooked its claws into his back. The curse pulled harder on the boy, leaving you with only the torn piece of cloth in your hand. As you tried to reach him again, the curse kicked you in the stomach so that you fell to the ground. Your body fell, and your eyes could only watch as the boy was mercilessly thrown along with the others.
“Just do what they ask you to do!” You shouted at the boy between sobs before another curse kicked you in the face to shut you up.
The last thing you could see was his face full of tears and snot as you bled from your nose incessantly. The castle doors slammed shut as the curses taunted you. You didn't care what they had to say, you just wanted the child to be okay. The woman you had befriended helped you up as your chest closed, and your eyes hurt from crying. You couldn’t do it anymore.
After about 10 minutes, the doors opened again. The curse kicked you in the back to get you inside. The old woman and three other old men followed close behind. A servant with a grim face welcomed you and led you into the king's hall. A room filled with luxuries along the walls, costly works, candles bathed in gold foil and glowing obsidian candelabras. It was a pity that the beautiful room was bathed in the dark blood of your kind. The walls were splattered, some candles had been extinguished because of it, and there were several dismembered bodies all over the room.
Despite being surrounded by light sources, the deepest part of the room was in complete darkness. Where you assumed the throne was supposed to be, there were many curtains that kept the king in the shadows. The only thing you could see was one of his giant feet being struck by the light of a nearby candle.
The servant asked them to stand in a side row so that the king could get a good view of them all. Once they obeyed, the servant retreated at a brisk pace. Everyone was silent. You could only hear their breaths being disturbed by the situation they were in. Your eyes traveled around the room. The bodies of the discarded individuals were cut into hundreds of cubes, making your blood run cold. It was an extremely perfect job, almost impossible to do. Had the king done that or was someone else in the room with them? You didn't want to see, but it was like a morbid exhibition of what an abominable being could do.
Your eyes roamed around the room in curiosity and terror, until they saw a teddy bear soaked in blood. The teddy bear of the child you swore you would protect. The child's head had been cut off, his eyes had popped out of his skull and were held in place by its corneas, and the rest of his body was completely mutilated into perfect rectangles of flesh. You closed your eyes and clenched your skirt to keep from screaming in despair. The frustration and disappointment in you could not be compared to anything else. You could do nothing to save him. You were pathetic.
“5… 4…” The king started the countdown. For what? You had no idea.
You knew you wouldn't have the answer if you asked him because of his reputation as a foul tyrant. You didn't know much about the dastardly king who reigned over the land of your birth, the only thing you knew was that he hated humans more than anything else in the world. You looked around for answers as to what exactly the king wanted. Nothing about the decorations gave you answers, the only thing that kept catching your attention were the bodies. “If he has servants, why are the bodies still here?” you thought the servants would get rid of them before bringing in any more prospects.
“3…” His deep voice echoed through the walls along with a devilish smile.
Sukuna watched you comfortably from his large stone throne, hand carved by the best sculptors in the region. He was amused to see your eyes darting everywhere. “What a fool,” you thought disdainfully. Nothing in the room could help you know what to do.
“2…” You could hear a small smile escape his lips as he approached 0.
You analyzed the bodies before you and they all met the same characteristic. None of the heads were connected to the rest of the body. Their heads had been cut off before they were mutilated. If none of them had heads, it is because they must have been at the same height, that is, they were standing when their heads were cut off. Standing in front of a tyrant? Complete blasphemy. That was it. That must have been it.
“¡1!”
“Get down, ma'am!” you yelled before pulling the lady down to the floor with you so she could kneel.
You knelt with your head on your hand as a pillow while the other still held the lady's arm. A thin slice rang through the room. It was so fast that you didn't hear a scream or even a whimper, you only heard the bodies of the others in the room fall to the floor under their own weight. The blood of the old man next to you began to trickle down to your fingers. You didn't dare look at the result of what had happened. You were just relieved that you were in one piece.
“Finally… Someone with manners,” the king uttered with disdain. You tried to swallow the lump in your throat, but it wouldn't go away. “The one in the middle, come closer,” he commanded. You were dead, you sensed it.
You struggled to your feet and walked towards him without looking his way. You entered his little sacred place in the middle of the dark, but you could see him clearly. His pink legs were gigantic. His thigh was thicker than your legs put together. That already gave you hints of the giant in front of you. Despite being dressed in a large white robe, he still showed enough skin to be considered vulgar. As soon as you approached, his hand took your head easily as if it were a ball, directing your gaze towards him. Your eyes widened at the eerie sight in front of you. A malevolent face split in half that watched you morbidly. His four eyes roamed your body shamelessly. His half-naked body tattooed with different lines astonished you at a closer look.
“How old are you?” He asked you while he moved your joints with his four arms as if you were a doll he could play with. You answered obediently between stutters. “Tell me, did your husband sell you?” he answered with a mocking tone.
“I am not married, my king,” Sukuna arched an eyebrow at that response. You decided to elaborate your answer to that reaction. “My mother sold me because I didn't marry.”
“You are still old enough to get married,” Sukuna said, still not letting go to observe you better.
He turned and moved you around like a globe to inspect you completely. It's been a long time since I've seen a girl of your age, to be always in the castle or conquering lands, she always sees young men but almost never women. For someone of the lowest possible class, you had your certain charm. Sukuna saw you as if you were a strange doll in an antique store, odd but striking in your own way.
“We were starving, my king.”
“It shows,” he replied with a certain mocking tone. “You know… I'm not used to seeing girls like you around here. They always send me decrepit old men or children who didn't die in their mother's womb,” he explained, annoyed.
Despite the terrifying distance and the fact that your heart was pounding a mile a minute, you were glad he wasn't hurting you. He grabbed you by the head as if he were examining a fruit to dictate whether he could eat it or not, but he didn't squeeze you as if he were squeezing you between his claws.
“I keep the old people because they work the hardest for their daily meal and I kill all the children because I hate how loud they can be.” You quickly realized right there that you never had a chance to save the child. An unruly tear rolled down your cheek, taking a second to mourn the little boy in silence. “So tell me, what should I do with you, kill you outright or give you a chance?” he asked you with a sinister smile.
“Dying before I live through hell doesn't sound so bad,” you thought pessimistically. What was the point of going on living? Your mother had sold you, and you trusted that your sisters would marry before you, especially Yorozu, so you didn't have to worry about her. You no longer felt you had any value, but you were afraid of dying. That inexplicable, but useless fear left you frozen. Why did you want to keep breathing if you weren't going to live anyway? Your mind couldn't make up its mind.
“I trust your decision, my king,” you replied in a sigh of surrender.
Sukuna's smile disappeared, he did not expect that answer. I thought you would beg him for mercy for your life, but you had completely surrendered to him, leaving your fate in his hands. He smiled again, this time, satisfied.
“Why?” he asked curiously.
“Because you always have the last word.”
“Interesting,” He answered before pulling you by the neck to bring you closer to his face. “You are someone special, aren't you?” Sukuna asked with eyes full of interest in you. He had found a gold nugget in a pile of shit.
Your eyes slowly drifted to his. Have you heard correctly? Had he, an almighty king, called you special? You no longer knew if your heart was pounding from the flattery or being so close to the king. You were so close that you could decipher what he had for breakfast that morning, probably people.
“Do you know how to cook and clean?” he asked quietly. You just nodded. “Well, you better not let me down,” he reluctantly let you go, making you stumble backwards. “Now get out of here with that old bitch so you get your uniforms,” he ordered with a harsh tone.
“Thank you, my king. I will not disappoint you,” you thanked him with a weak smile as you bowed several times before retreating from his presence.
Sukuna couldn't take his eyes off you. You ran to the shocked lady to help her out of the bloody room. She laid her head on her fist as she followed your anatomy. There was something about you that caught her attention. You were submissive, but you were not stupid. You were perceptive, but not rebellious. He liked what you had offered him so far, he just needed to do a little more observing.
“Thank you very much, thank you, child, you saved my life!” The old woman cried once they left the room into a candle lit hallway. A small smile crept onto your face. You may not have saved the child, but you saved your new friend. “I am forever in debt with you.”
“No need, ma'am,” you said so as not to make her feel guilty.
“Mrs. Inoue,” she introduced herself in tears as she bowed politely, you did the same as you let her know your name.
They both walked until they reached the end of the hallway where the few survivors were. An uncomfortable silence ruled the place. Mrs. Inoue and yourself sat down on a small bench to wait for instructions. Uraume and a group of servants carrying piles of clothes arrived not long after. Sukuna's right hand looked at everyone with disdain as the servants handed out the uniforms to the new servants who would be under her command. “So she survived…” they thought interested of you as you changed out of the old brown dress into the new uniform.
You lifted the wet apron against the sunlight to check it for any unwanted stains. Your first anniversary as Sukuna's servant was a month away. You couldn't believe that you were about to complete one lap around the sun since you survived the harvest and received your maid's uniform. A long black dress with a contrasting white apron with black boots and a scarf in your hair to keep your hair off your forehead. You returned the apron to the sink to continue washing it by hand with soap and water. A small smile crept in as you realized you had survived the worst, you just hoped you had the same luck for the rest of your life. Now, you could rest for a very deserving week.

Change With the Seasons| Stardew Valley| Sebastian x Reader
♡♡♡♡♡♡ Chapter One: Moving In
♡♡♡♡♡♡
A/N: This is just gonna be a cute romance between Seb and the Farmer, aka Reader. If It’s also available on AO3 and Quotev. I’d visit the masterlist if I were you, since it contains trigger warnings + the story blurb (summary/ synopsis)
♡♡♡♡♡♡
Chapter Summary: After moving in and getting accustomed to life at the farm, you happen to meet a certain someone on a rainy day by the docks.
♡♡♡♡♡♡
The wind whistled through the trees, snaking its way through your hair and causing the leaves to skitter. Immediately the breeze died down as soon as it picked up.
You had just finished speaking to Major Lewis. Robin, the carpenter, however, had decided to stick around for some more conversation, an idea you weren’t completely against yet weren’t completely welcoming towards either.
“You should definitely get to meeting all the townsfolk,” Robin said, eyes surveying the wooded, overgrown land. They flicked back to yours, and she smiled. “It’s not everyday we get a new person here in Pelican Town. So they’re all very eager to meet you.”
You smiled and nodded, as she continued:
“And you should meet my kids too. They live with me in the Mountains, oh, the mountains…”
As Robin went off on a long rant on how wonderful and fresh the crisp air of the mountains were, you looked out at the farm stretched before you. It was covered in rocks, wood, overgrown grass and trees. You winced at the thought of having to clean it all up.
“Anyways, I won’t keep you any further!” Robin smiled, and left.
You proceeded to dump your luggage on the bed, which creaked under the weight, and rolled your sleeves up. The first thing on your list today, you decided, was to go into town and see how it was. You had, after all, dropped your safe, stable life in Zuzu for this.
The walk to the village wasn’t too long. You picked up a daffodil along the way, with no other reason than finding it pretty. Immediately you arrived at what seemed to be a clinic. You peered in, but it was closed. The building next to it had a large sign. Pierre’s General Store. A calendar nailed to the wall caught your attention- it was listing all the events and birthdays in town. A specific day seemed to jump out at you: Flower Dance.
You’d have to ask Mayor Lewis about that.
You put your hand on the door handle to Pierre’s store and pushed, but the doors refused to budge. It must have been locked, too. You checked your watch. It was only seven. That explained it.
You wandered down a little, taking in the buildings and houses. You squinted at a small figure in the distance, loitering near a couple of flowers. Seemingly very interesting in them.
As you moved closer, you realized that it was a little old woman, tending to the flowers. She smiled at you, and you smiled back. “You must be the new farmer. Welcome to the community, dear. I’m Evelyn. You can call me ‘Granny’ if you like.”
You flushed at her kindness. “Alright, Granny.”
She smiled and nodded, before heading inside a small blue house, claiming to go bake some cookies.
You exhaled slowly, staring at the flowers. The spring sun seemed to glow off of everything, yet the breeze was cool. You felt a faint smile growing on your face. You’d like it here, in Pelican Town. You knew it.
-
A week had passed. So had your doubts.
Everyone in the town had been kind to you so far- so far, being the keyword as you hadn’t met many people yet. You’d woken up that morning with rain lashing down, pattering on the roof, echoing through the small cottage. With watering your rather small number of crops being taken care of, you’d decided to devote the day to fishing at the docks, ever grateful for the rather flimsy bamboo rod Willy had gifted you.
The rain was pouring down harder than when you had left as you arrived at the docks. Your hair stuck to your forehead, slick with water, droplets of it rolling down your cheeks. You carefully picked your way across the docks, which had grown slippery. The sea was choppy, and occasionally hit against the supports of the docks but they were fortunately high enough from the water level. Yet still a few salty drops sprayed onto your face now and then.
Being as drenched as you were all ready, you just decided to sit down on the edge of the dock, before casting out your rod. You didn’t even notice the man already sitting next to you amidst the whirling wind and drops of rain and seawater. You shivered, cold, before glancing to the side and-
“Oh!” You jumped in surprised, almost toppling off the dock and into the angry sea. “H-hello.”
The man stared at you in silence, the black strands of hair obscuring his face, making it unable to be seen properly, before turning back to the sea. “Hey.”
You’d never felt awkward with the people in Pelican Town until now. You forced a nervous smile, tilting your head. “Sorry, I didn’t see you there. You don’t mind if I sit here, right?”
He dug his hands into the pockets of his black sweatshirt, the moody look on his face deepening. “Whatever,” he muttered, then said under his breath, “The ocean’s better enjoyed alone, though.”
Your own frown hardened into a scowl. “What’s that supposed to mean?” It hadn’t even been ten seconds since you’d met this guy and you were already starting to feel a growing dislike for him.
“Nothing,” he said. You noticed the eyeliner around his eyes getting slightly messed up from the rain, and stared hard back out at sea. So much for everyone in the twon being nice. You must have jinxed it, or something.
“What’s your name, anyways?” You asked, taking another stab at being friendly.
“Sebastian,” came the blunt reply.
You stared at him again, for a moment. He caught you staring, and raised an eyebrow, an action which for some reason made your heart pound. “What?”
“Nothing.” You turned your attention back to the fishing rod. The weather was becoming harsher now, your clothes completely drenched through with droplets rolling down your face and arms. Thunder rolled and lightning flashed, making you jump and let out a small noise. Sebastian smirked and you glared at him. “What?”
“Nothing,” he said, clearly mocking you in such a subtle way you wouldn’t expect. You scowled, feeling something tug at the rod. It was a soggy newspaper. Feeling your face burn with embarrassment, you picked it up and scrunched it up in your hand before getting up and stomping down the dock, back towards your farm.
“Nothing,” You muttered, mockingly. That day, you decided.
You do not like Sebastian.

sea stories
Ficlet for @sindarweek day 2: Folklore | AO3
They say that Elwing and her husband never returned to Middle-earth, but some know better. The first sea-bird sailors see once the ship is underway sometimes shimmers a little too brightly to be an ordinary skimmer. A sign of a good catch to come, a joyous return homewards. If they are lucky, she will greet them again when they seek the shore, white-winged harbinger of safe harbor. A Númenorean navigator once said he feared no voyage, however distant and deadly, for the same gull always met him without fail three days before land was sighted. With such a guide as Star-spray he could not waver. And of course the star sailed with him.
The fair folk know voices carry in water. Like a child, she laughs in the hidden valley’s falls, so like those for which she was named at her birth. Like a woman, she moans in the sea-caves of the Havens, sings and sobs in each tumbling wave. They hear her and feel a longing for far-off lands, for grey mists and birds’ shrieking, for love once lost thought never to be regained.
When storms blow in and cover the sky in the fishing villages, women weaving nets have heard her calling for her sons. She never finds them. But they temper their fear for their own babes, because children caught by the tide speak of being led home by such a voice, by a ray of pale light, by a hopping sandpiper.
On some summer nights without wind the sea lulls smooth as glass. Light bridges the dark water from the evening star’s ship to the grasses at the river’s mouth. You can see him alight then, despite the gods’ doom. She embraces him, cloaked in white feathers, a jewel at her throat and on his brow. At times she surges up from the reeds’ hidden nests; others, she floats down beside him like a wisp of cloud. On the banks of the undrowned world, they walk together. They meet there still.

made a little map of fallenclan territory! :D here's some notes about the locations
star-pool: named because of the way the stars reflect off it at night. very deep water, good spot for fishing and for teaching apprentices how to swim.
split-stones: commonly a monument that apprentices dare each other to climb. notably, it is nearly impossible to do so--the stones are covered in slick moss and have very sheer sides. its rumored that Goldenstar managed it once, but whether or not this is true remains to be seen
eagle's talon: the highest point in Fallenclan's territory. common place for eagles and ospreys to have nests, regarded as very dangerous, with poor hunting. sometimes cats will travel to the peak on a dare, and bring back an eagle feather back as proof
sky pine: the largest tree in Fallenclan territory. possibly a redwood. who knows
abandoned barn: not much more than a rickety frame and some rotten planks at this point, but it provides decent shelter from the weather, and is a good hunting place. sometimes young twolegs can be found lingering there
fox-pelt thicket: named for the incredibly thick underbrush, not unlike the thick pelt of a fox. good hunting, but difficult to maneuver
honey spruce: not the only spruce tree in the meadow, but the only one with a bee's nest. cats tend to give it a wide berth
river split: a large patch of sandy and rocky ground on the river's bank. a good place for elders to go and sun themselves
sungleam lake: so named because it is an excellent place to watch the sun rise. poor fishing, sometimes populated by twolegs
frog hollow: a marshy valley where frogs, slugs, and newts are often found. very thick, sticky mud, and large clumps of deer-grass. one of the most hated borders to patrol, due to the terrain

•Warning: 葛天/GeTian/Cat Thien x Reader• Reverse 1999
Tumblr media
Getian suddenly notices his unusual appearance more than usual, more than anything since birth. He once moved his wings forward and stopped mechanically when trying to catch a flower branch slipping out of your hair.
Getian is not a person who is good at speaking, and is not someone who can easily express emotions. He used to hang himself on thousands of treetops to arrange the thoughts he wanted to express, but then remained silent in the middle of millions of wind screams because he couldn't write a letter.
Getian will never be able to understand the feeling of being on par with the person he loves. The reason why his feet are so big is that one step touching the ground equals a distance you have to chase. The moments when he spread his wings so quickly across the endless valley, his heart just wants to walk at night with you.
You brush away the strands of hair that fell behind his ear, hug his cheek gently, and give him an attentive look at each facial expression and loving lips. Getian also wants the same, the illusions of tying your hair with a small rubber band, sliding his fingers on your thin shoulders and lifting your chin with his thumb and index.
Will you soon see these as obstacles and then hate them? Getian cannot give you a deep hug when his arms and all the distance between the two of you when you get close is filled.
Until you pulled him into a kiss as fierce and hasty as a summer night. If Getian can not hug your neck to keep the fragrance from going out, you would have grabbed his shoulder.
I wish you would kiss me like the next dawn that will forever fade.
Pinning him in the grass like a lost sheep, kissing him like a repentance bible. Chasing after love and pleasure, you find yourself faster than a flock of flying fish. Your head resting on his strong shoulder, the panting sound remained in your ears, making you feel like he was caressing your heart.

how would the sdv townies react to a farmer that wears lolita / ouji fashion?
like imagine there's a new farmer in town and they tend the farm, go fishing or mining in the most impractical clothes ever !! (but it's pretty so who cares lol)
I searched for the meaning of lolita/ouji, because honestly this is the first time I've heard of it. Quite an enthralling article, by the way! Thanks anon, both for the question and the interesting information 💕🌺
For those who don't know what it is: basically, Lolita fashion is a Japanese subculture that was based on the clothing style of Victorian era and Rococo style. No one knows exactly when this subculture emerged, but Wiki said that it was somewhere around the 70s. Found a Tumblr post for an example of what it looks like, or you can look it up yourself. It's pretty, but it's definitely Hell on earth if you somehow think of working on a farm or in the Mines in such clothes 😅
Sorry anon, but I'll make it for bachelors/bachelorettes this time. Hope you don't mind 💕 Anyway, back to the question...
SDV bachelors/ettes react to a Farmer that wears Lolita/Ouji outfit while working:
_________________________________________
Ha, see! When Haley said that if a person wants to, they will always look beautiful and fashionable EVEN at work. EVEN if that job is digging in the dirt and picking up roots. And back then, people told Haley it was stupid and not practical. But Farmer is proof of her words, look at them! *Pointing at Farmer dressed up in a beautiful outfit that's covered in dirt and grass in a lot of places*. Ewww. Uh, or maybe not....
Sebastian thinks Ouji's gothic outfit is so cool, but doesn't understand why it's what the Farmer wears to pick pumpkins and cranberries. Do they like being stuck doing laundry for so long? Because he doesn't see the logic. They want to look pretty all the time? Okay, Farmer's choice. But they'll definitely need a tonne of washing powder, because dirt and dust will not spare the Farmer's pretty clothes (especially where the fabric is white).
Emily's heart cracked to pieces when she saw that Farmer had soiled their beautiful clothes in slime and monster blood. She was, of course, immensely glad that her chaotic friend was okay, but.... Maybe the Farmer will let Emily make clothes for them that are fashionable AND practical, to their taste and style? Plus the blue-haired girl wouldn't turn down the opportunity to try a new style in sewing clothes, especially considering how incredible and expressive Farmer's outfit are.
This valley seems to attract people with a bizarre choice of clothes. Alex doesn't understand why the Farmer is not satisfied with, say, an ordinary jacket and jeans. Or a T-shirt with jeans. Or any other clothes that don't look as weird. He's seen something similar to Farmer's clothes in Haley's fashion magazines with one eye once, but it's still weird to him. Especially working as a farmer in that suit in the summer heat all day.
Oh yes! Abigail recognised the style! A few years ago she'd always fought with her parents because they wouldn't let her daughter go out in "occult clothing" and couldn't understand that Abby had the right to express herself. The gothic Lolita style was her favourite, but she later wanted something a little more comfortable (and she's not a big fan of skirts). So Farmer, who is going to Mines in this outfit is either the bravest or the craziest person. The outfit is so cool, but it's kinda uncomfortable.
Shane almost choked on his beer at what he saw. A Farmer was seriously going to work in... this? Do they even know how much effort it takes to take care of a chicken coop alone, and that it's not a job for a fucking-? What is this shit anyway? Fashion? They kind of came here to become farmers, didn't they? What the hell does Shane care, though? Let the weirdo wear whatever they wants, he doesn't give a damn.
But that's completely impractical! Maru always prioritises convenience over beauty in her choice of clothes. Who would, say, be engaged in inventions and experiments in dressy clothes, when the probability of spilling machine oil or (Yoba forbid) chemical reagent on oneself is quite high? You can't wash such things afterwards, and it will be a waste of expensive fabric. The Farmer looks great (though a bit eccentric for Maru's taste), but you shouldn't be farming or fishing in such clothes.
As long as Farmer doesn't go overboard with their clothes and expose themself to overheating or difficulty breathing properly - then Harvey has nothing against their style. It's a bit odd and extravagant, but they're an adult and have the right to wear what they like. The worry comes, though, when the Farmer's told the doctor that they're going to fight the monsters in the Mines in these clothes. Yoba have mercy, maybe Harvey can talk them into wearing some protection, like helmet or something? Please, he's getting nervous....
Penny will be honest - as a child, she had secretly dreamed of some dress like this before. But having grown up, the red-haired girl became rather reserved and modest, afraid to step outside the bounds of comfort and afraid of the negative reaction of others. On top of that, such outfits were usually not cheap. Seeing Farmer running around in such a beautiful outfit and not really worrying about it getting ruined, while Penny could only dream of it made her feel.... envy? Sadness? Both? *Sigh* It's complicated...
Wow! Yo, sick outfit! Hey, Sam definitely remembers Abby used to wear something like that before her parents made her stop doing it. Farmer looks great! Except it's unlikely the clothes will be as chic after tilling a field. Or fishing. Willy used to say that some bait stinks for a week at least. So be careful, Farmer, it's easy to ruin an outfit like that.
This is Farmer's choice, but Leah should warn - going to the forest for mushrooms in such impractical clothes will end up with Farmer covered in cobwebs, leaves, and most likely, somewhere a sleeve will get caught on a branch and tear the fabric. As if the artist herself sometimes has a hard time with her clothes - blueberry bushes and thistles can be very treacherous and sticky. And also painful. That's why the Farmer's going to have a hard time. It is better to let them sacrifice one day without their beautiful clothes and go to the forest normally.
Elliot himself spends so much effort and time to style his luxurious and unruly hair, to iron his white shirt perfectly, to polish his shoes to a dazzling shine. The writer can't imagine such a thing - to do all the hard work on his appearance and clothes, to spoil everything in Mines at once. The Farmer looks so wonderful, don't they feel at all bad about ruining the expensive fabric of their clothes? Of course, Elliott is in favour of the idea of trying to look good at all times, but in some places it may be inappropriate.

NOW OR NEVER — sam (sdv) x reader
media: stardew valley
word count: 2.5k
warnings: mentions of war
requested by: @luxurylives
summary: sam seeks support from his crush, farmer (y/n), after they overhear a family spat. yet, a proposal from flirty part-time bartender masahi has sam in a tailspin, as he’s forced to grapple with confessing his feelings to (y/n).
author’s note: my first fic since revitalizing my fanfic writing career! hope you all enjoy :)
“Sam, please,” the desperation in Jodi’s voice was evident. She grasped onto her husband Kent’s arm, the soldier staring down his son blankly. Sam, lacking his usual cheerful disposition, stood across from them with arms crossed.
“You can’t be serious,” his voice was low, almost a growl. Jodi averted her gaze, her grip on Kent’s arm tightening. In an effort to reassure his wife, Kent began to rub her back tenderly while moving forward with the discussion, “Son, I know this is going to be a hard change but it’s necessary.”
“What’s necessary? The fact that we gotta lose you again to the fucking military, huh?” the skater spat venom at his father, “That we’ve only had you back for one year and all of a sudden, you’re called back to the front lines!”
“That’s sadly a fact of life,” answered Kent. A small sob escaped Jodi’s lips and Kent pulled her into his chest, soothing her while she cried. Sam balled up his fists, feeling his cheeks redden from the heat of the summer and the heat of the revelation. Without a second thought, the blond stormed outside, the door slamming behind him and muffling Jodi’s wails.
“Yoba, Yoba fucking…” he began to curse at the All Mighty, enraged at the creator’s cruelty. Yet, before he could utter another blasphemous word, a familiar face greeted him before the front entrance, “Sammie?”
His flames of rage quickly fizzled out at the sight of (Y/N), the ever so kindhearted farmer. They cast their eyes down to the ground, adjusting their grip on their wicker basket, “I’m sorry. I was stopping by to deliver your mom her tomatoes and I, well…” they cleared their voice, “I’m sorry, but I overheard everything.”
Sam let out a frustrated sigh and combed his hands through his messy spikes, “Everything?”
“Yeah, everything,” the farmer reiterated.
“You can just… You should just leave them on the step. I’m sure my mom will get them in a second,” Sam stepped off the entrance floor mat, an image of a happy-go-fish with the words “Welcome to Our Home!” featured on it. (Y/N) gently set the basket of tomatoes on the mat and positioned them in just the right way so they remained under the roof’s shade. Sam walked a few feet forward, taking in the whooshing of the stream before him.
“Do you wanna talk about it?” the farmer offered, staring at Sam with those pretty eyes he always admired.
“About my dad?”
“Yeah, or anything else that’s on your mind.”
Sam cracked a smile, the first one of his day, “Well, only ‘cuz I trust you,” he plopped down on the grass in front of the stream. The blond patted the space beside him and (Y/N) joined him, the pair admiring the water.
“They want my dad back in the war.”
“Yeah? How come?”
“Honestly, I have no clue. I kinda,” the skater hugged his knees to his chest, “I kinda didn’t have a chance before I lost it on Mom and Dad.”
(Y/N) offered Sam a sympathetic smile, holding out their hand for a moment. Sam grew flushed at the gesture but took the farmer’s hand, nonetheless. (Y/N)’s hand was surprisingly soft for someone doing hard labor year-round. Yet, they had a few callouses, just like the ones he got from guitar practice.
“He was a PoW. You’d think he would be exempted from having to go through that hell again but… I guess not.”
“It’s not fair,” the farmer mused, “You just got him back, less than a year ago!”
“That’s what I was saying!” exclaimed Sam, squeezing (Y/N)’s hand. The two locked eyes for a moment but Sam turned away, still holding on tight to their hand. A welcoming warmth filled his chest while he held the farmer’s hand, as memories of the past year flooded his mind. The late nights at the saloon, the banter at the festivals, the rainy days spent in his room together, every moment with (Y/N) filled Sam up with an indescribable sense of peace.
“I’ll always be here if you need anything, Sammie. I promise, okay?” the farmer’s words brought the blond back to reality.
“I appreciate that,” Sam replied with a small smile. He loosened his grasp on (Y/N)’s hand and soon confronted the emptiness that followed. (Y/N) leaned forward and grinned, they always had such a beautiful smile.
“(Y/N), I gotta ask—”
A sudden beep beep! cut Sam off, as a handsome man with slick honey blond hair waved to (Y/N) from his even more slick convertible, “(Y/N)! Sweets! There you are!”
(Y/N) blinked in surprise before pushing themself off the ground and dusting off their overalls, “Oh, Masahi, I didn’t think you would be bartending tonight at the saloon!”
“Because I’m not, darling,” the obnoxiously flirtatious and annoying man (at least to Sam) explained, “I’m in this part of the woods looking for you.”
“For me?” the farmer questioned, wiping a bead of sweat off their dirt caked forehead.
“Yes, you, silly!” Masahi chuckled, “I want to take you out to see an old friend of myself, I remember you mentioning how much you love her music.”
(Y/N)’s jaw dropped in astonishment, “Masahi, are you serious?!”
“Yes, sweets, I’m serious. KiKi Kiwi is playing at the Juicer… tonight,” the bartender could barely hold back that ultra white pearly smile of his, earning a not-so-subtle glare from Sam, “So what do you say? Wanna be my plus one?”
“Oh, well…” (Y/N) eyed Sam, a small frown on their lips, “You’re going through it, though, Sammie. Do you need me for tonight?”
Sam bit the inside of his cheek, as he ping-ponged his focus between the concerned farmer and the cheeky bartender. Should I tell them that I need them tonight?
“No, it’s okay,” the skater plastered on a smile, “I know how much you love Kiki Kiwi, stink,” the farmer snorted at the nickname Sam bestowed upon them early in their friendship, “Just promise me that you’ll get me a shirt of hers?”
“I pinky promise!” the farmer shouted jubilantly. The two of them sealed the promise and Sam waved (Y/N) off, as they hopped in the convertible with Masahi. With a cocky smile gracing his lips, Masahi gave Sam a wink, “Later, Sammie!” drove off with (Y/N) in tote.
Once they were out of earshot, Sam kicked a nearby rock to unleash his anger, only to end up grunting in pain because of how sharp said rock was. Defeated, Sam collapsed on the grassy dip by the stream and huffed, staring up at the pinkish orange sky.
“I’m such a loser.”
—————
“And you just… let them go? Just like that?” Abigail hummed aloud, “Seriously? Just like that? Are you kidding me?”
Sam swatted at the pestering purple haired goth, as he laid sprawled about Sebastian’s couch. The aforementioned owner of the couch peered over his desktop to add on, “She’s right. You basically blew your chance.”
“Okay, okay! I did not basically blow my chance!” the skater countered, “I wasn’t gonna let them miss out on their chance to see their all-time favorite musician in the whole wide universe. What kinda friend would I be if I did?”
“A boyfriend, not a friend,” commented Abigail, who promptly received a flick to the forehead by Sam, “Hey!”
“Stop being a dick to me,” the blond grumbled, “I already got enough on my plate.”
Abigail frowned, “Sorry,” and added on, “I’m sure things will be fine, though. Masahi isn’t really (Y/N)’s type.”
Sam’s ears perked up like a puppy dog, “Huh, what? He isn’t?” which earned him a pair of chuckles from both Abigail and Sebastian.
“I don’t think (Y/N) really has a type,” the purple-haired girl continued, “I mean, they never really expressed any indication of a type to me. Hell, I’m not even that sure if they like men or not.”
“Oh,” the disappointment in Sam’s voice was evident but upon noticing the goths’ questioning stares, he backpedalled, “I mean, I mean liking girls is cool! People, regardless of junk and stuff, are cool!”
“And during Pride Month,” mumbled Sebastian with a mischievous scoff.
“And during Pride Month,” Abigail repeated in a similarly teasing manner.
Sam buried his face in his hands, “I don’t know what to do,” he murmured, “I probably did blow my chance,” the idea of (Y/N) being with Masahi in that way filled Sam’s stomach up in explosive balloons of acid, ready to pop from the slightest movement. His mind began to spiral, as Sam recounted each and every supposedly “intimate” moment he witnessed (Y/N) in by mistake.
That time he saw them and Elliott merrily drinking together at the saloon, the way the drunken ginger swung his arm haphazardly around their shoulder.
That time he saw them and Alex tossing the gridball around, the way the human equivalent of a protein shake grazed his hand against theirs when trying to retrieve the misplaced ball.
Yoba, even the times he saw them exchange giggles with Harvey and Shane!
The jealousy continued to rise and rise until Sam could
“I mean,” Sebastian’s voice drifted off with the echo of mouse clicks following behind, “Kiki Kiwi is performing at the Juicer in about an hour. If you make yourself presentable, I could drive you up there in a bit.”
The speed at which Sam went from zero to hero in his appearance was simply a miracle. Neither Sebastian nor Abigail had ever witnessed such a feat, as Sam returned with an outfit fit for a rooftop club scene; he sported a nearly all-black look that one might have confused him for Sebastian if it had not been for his spiky blond hair and the dash of color in his red Converse sneakers.
“That was quick,” answered Sebastian.
“Good luck, lover boy!” Abigail ushered the boys a farewell, as Sam held onto Sebastian’s back for dear life. The roar of the motorcycle rang through Sam’s ears, as a darkening skyline greeted them on the road towards ZuZu City.
Gaining entry to The Juicer appeared to be a daunting task, as a line of rabid Kiki Kiwi fans and club regulars nearly took up the whole block outside the club. Sam felt the vibrations of the opening act’s music pulsate through the ground beneath his feet. He eyed Sebastian for support, unsure how to proceed.
“Oh my God, is that you Sebby?”
Sam and Sebastian directed their attention to the voice calling out, the veiny bouncer guarding the door to The Juicer. Sebastian stared down the bouncer, his brain trying to process if the bouncer was speaking to him or another Sebastian, “Uhh…”
“This is crazy, it’s totally you!” the bouncer proclaimed, as he let a few attendees inside, “It’s me, Lily- well, I’m Liam now but we went to high school together!”
“Oh! Lil- Liam!” replied Sebastian. He gave Sam a subtle nod and walked up to the bouncer to chat, “Wow, man, you’re really jacked now, huh?”
With the bouncer occupied, Sam seized the moment to slip into the crowd of club-goers entering the establishment. Through a series of bumping into people and trying not to slam his face into a wall, Sam managed his way to the top of the building, music’s deep bass bouncing off all surfaces of the club. The skater maneuvered his way through the crowd of dancing drunks and couples displaying PDA that bordered the line of bedroom-only activities, his mind set on finding (Y/N). He tried to shout for them, but the music was too loud for anyone to hear anything else.
It felt like hours before Sam eventually found (Y/N) near the VIP area, the farmer happily chatting with a woman clad in neon green. Masahi stood behind (Y/N) with an almost wounded expression on his face, not able to get a word in; Sam had to suppress the grin trying to form on his face at the sight.
“(Y/N)!” shouted Sam. The farmer paused their conversation and whipped their head around, eyes landing on Sam, “Sammie? How did you- What are you doing here?”
“What are you doing here?” Masahi repeated, eyebrows quirked and arms crossed.
“Hi, I’m sorry, it’s a long story but can I please borrow you for just one second?” he pleaded with (Y/N), “I promise, it will only be for one second,” Sam added on for good measure.
(Y/N) exchanged glances between Sam and the woman in green, the latter of which flashed them a smile, “I’m sure we can resume our little chat after, dear. I should be prepping my voice right about now.”
(Y/N) returned the smile, “Okay! If not, it has been a huge honor talking with you!”
The woman in green waved the farmer off, the screams of excited club attendees filling the air while she walked towards backstage. With the woman, presumably Kiki Kiwi, gone, (Y/N) turned her attention to Masahi and stated, “I’ll be right back, okay? I just need to hear Sam out real quick!”
Masahi gave the farmer a firm nod, “Yes, of course. I’ll be waiting,” he glared down at Sam while the skater waltzed off with (Y/N) in possession. Finding the most private area possible, that being behind the crumbling walls of the bathrooms, Sam released his guiding grasp on the farmer, “Thank you for giving me this moment.
“Of course, Sammie, but is everything okay? I thought you wanted me to come tonight,” questioned (Y/N).
“And I did- I do, I do want you to come out and enjoy yourself tonight,” the blond tripped over his words, “Your happiness means the most to me, of course I wanted you to see your favorite musician ever tonight.”
(Y/N) flashed Sam a giddy smile, “My happiness means the most to you?” to which the skater nodded feverishly, “Of course! Ever since we became friends, you’ve always been a priority of mine, someone I care deeply about and…” Sam steadied his voice, “I realized that tonight might be my only chance to say this so I’m just gonna say it.”
Sam gently took (Y/N) by the hands and held them against his chest, “(Y/N).”
“Yes, Sam?”
“I love you.”
“I love you, too!”
“No, (Y/N), I… I love you.”
The farmer’s eyes widened.
“You love me?”
“With all my heart.”
“Sammie, I- I-” with their words failing, there was only one way (Y/N) could respond and that was kissing Sam squarely on the lips.
It was like fireworks went off for the two of them, metaphorically in their minds and literally in the sky before them while Kiki Kiwi launched into her first song of the night. For countless nights, Sam dreamed of feeling, tasting (Y/N)’s lips against his own.
And my, my… was the wait worth it.
