Librarians: Superhero AU
This isn’t a fic, but a ramble about Day 16 of The Librarians Prompt Month: Superhero AU. As an AU, I actually don’t think it’s too much of a stretch! They already run around saving the world from their secret base of operations, and superpowers could be added to the Librarian characters pretty easily. Here are my assumptions going in:
The actual episodes of the show will not be substantially altered
The superpowers are granted by the Library upon accepting a position (so Cassandra’s visualization techniques, Jacob & Flynn’s intelligence, and Ezekiel’s thieving aren’t powers, they’re skills)
For now, let’s call this a Librarians-only trait
With this framework in mind, I suggest that the following are actually superpowers granted to the Librarians by the Library:
Flynn has some variant of lucky charm - this might seem more of an Ezekiel thing, but Flynn has survived longer than any previous Librarian (mortal Librarian, I’d argue Judson had an advantage there as he was tethered and semi-immortal) and he did it mostly without even having a Guardian; he tends to get an idea or have something turn up right in the nick of time and, while I’m not saying that he isn’t very good at Librarian-ing, there definitely seems to be an element of luck at play
Jacob has increased strength - at the beginning of Season 3, once we see him start learning to properly fight, he manages to about shot-put a punching bag AND THEN the god Apep across an entire room; I’m pretty sure rotating your wrist a certain degree does NOT generate this result in our reality
Cassandra has magical powers - this one is fairly obvious, since she doesn’t have any magical powers to start off with and develops them over the course of the show; now it’s supposedly a remnant from being caught in the fairytale spell as Merlin, but no one else had lasting effects, so my argument is that this is just the way she found out she was given the power of magic
Ezekiel has some sort of immunity to magic - time and time again magic spells and artifacts don’t work quite right on him, from the Apple of Discord to taking no damage from his photo being taken in Dorian Gray’s nightclub to Cindy; it’s clearly not a full immunity to magic, since things like the Pipes of Pan and the Happily Ever After curse work on him, so there might be some weird clauses working on that one (the magic can only be trying to affect him alone, which is why the two cases above effected him as well, or maybe it only works once over a certain period of time)
And, because I feel guilty about leaving them out:
The superpower that Baird probably *wants* is the ability to know where her Librarians are and if they’re about to do something more reckless than usual. Either that or telekinesis. Then she could grab hold of their collars long distance.
Jenkins just wants a Cone of Silence.
#this was fun!#also they have arch nemesis throughout the seasons which is another argument for superhero-ing#granted most super villians aren't Lancelot and Prospero - but they are library superheros#the librarians#the librarians prompt month#prompt 16#superhero au
