The Boys of Summer: Waterfall Edition
A photo from Bond Falls in the UP way back in 2009.
Bond Falls by Gowtham Nobody on the road, Nobody on the beachI feel it in the air, The summer’s out of reachEmpty lake, empty streets, The sun goes down aloneI’m driving by your house, Though I know you’re not home -Don Henley There’s still some summer left to squeeze, but these cool nights tell me it won’t be long before the summer out of reach! Twelve falls ago, I featured this passage along…

[ad_1] Anshul Kamboj (PC: Subhayan Chakraborty) Bharath Ramaraj at the Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru The key narratives from day 2 of the Karnataka-Haryana Ranji Trophy game have been the noteworthy performances of Haryana’s seamers and how the home side is negotiating a transition phase in the longest format. The cornerstones of Haryana’s impressive comeback were Anshul Kamboj and Anuj Thakral – the pace duo shared eight wickets between them. Of the two, Kamboj bowled with unremitting discipline, testing every single batter in the corridor of uncertainty outside off. He also employed the occasional nip-backer to keep the batters on their toes. The delivery to KL Rahul perfectly sums up Kamboj’s simple but effective methods. It pitched slightly short of a good length and straightened just enough to catch the edge. Rahul had no other choice but to play at the delivery as it was very close to the top of off stump. Kamboj continued to base his game on old-school virtues of making the batter play and was rewarded with figures of 4 for 32 from 22 overs. That his economy rate was less than 2 gave further evidence of his exemplary control. At this point of time, you also wonder whether Kamboj’s skills are best suited for the longest format. Test cricket is about being good at the art of repetition and he has the required tools for it. So, he could be on the Indian selectors’ radar for the Test tour of England. Thakral, his colleague, is the taller of the two. The 22-year-old went for more runs, but he bowled attacking lengths and finished with 4 for 68 from 20 overs. The pair’s bowling led to Karnataka being dismissed for 304.  There was another theme attached to Karnataka’s innings. The home side is navigating a rather tricky transition phase. The likes of Manish Pandey, Karun Nair, R Samarth, S Sharath and K Gowtham have either shifted their base to another state or been left out of the set-up. To make matters worse, the pace duo of Vidwath Kaverappa and Vijaykumar Vyshak suffered injuries during the course of the season, while Prasidh Krishna and Devdutt Padikkal were on national duty. Yere Goud and the rest of the think-tank ushered in youngsters, and that worked in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, with Karnataka emerging victorious. R Smaran averaged 72, with KV Aneesh and Krishnan Shirjith also aggregating over 300 runs in that tournament. Abhilash Shetty, the left-arm pacer, also impressed, taking 17 scalps. Even in the longest format, Smaran and Shetty showcased their potential against Punjab. Smaran accumulated a double-ton while Shetty bagged four wickets. Yashovardhan Parantap, the seam-bowling all-rounder, has also made useful contributions in the couple of games he has played in the Ranji Trophy so far. With pacers like LR Kumar, Samarth Nagaraj and Manvanth Kumar (all-rounder) in the mix, Karnataka seem to have enough bench strength for the longest format. The results, however, have not exactly gone in Karnataka’s favour in the Ranji Trophy this season, winning two and drawing four matches. Even in the ongoing game, they suffered a spectacular collapse, losing their last five wickets for a mere 18. And Haryana have made a bright start. Maybe, just maybe, it will take a bit of time for the youngsters to turn potential into consistency. MY SCHOOL - CHILDHOOD TRAUMA....
People talk about nostalgia, they miss their childhood and school days but whenever I hear 'SCHOOL' I remember my 2nd school (I have gone to 3 schools). My 1st one is Foster's School (nursery-5th class) and that was good but had to change because it became Foster's Bellibong International School in Saket now, I was there in my 5th class but the syllabus turned tough because it became CBSE to ICSE suddenly and I couldn't score well like before in my 5th class, that's why in 6th I was sent to Dr KKR's Gowtham School in ECIL which was CBSE and they even used to train children from 6th class for MPC (a course in inter) by having extra classes, obviously excluding the regular class. Life was just school to home, only about studies. There was no other focus or hobby to even think about, this continued from 6th-9th class and all these years from 6th to almost 9th's half class I met the most toxic people of my life in the form of friends and teachers. It was like a jail from 7AM - 7PM and I was thinking about these traumas of the day in the remaining time at my home too.
I was in depression when I didn't even know its meaning, kept shouting that I don't want to go there to being there every morning crying. My only complain to my parents till date is only about that school, "WHY YOU JOINED ME THERE AND RUINED MY 4 YEARS, WHY DID YOU JUST DO THAT AFTER HEARING TO MY COUSIN SISTER'S OPINION? THERE IS A SCHOOL NEAR TO OUR HOUSE CALLED BHAVANS, WHY NOT THAT? I COULD HAVE BEEN MYSELF, MY EXTROVERTEDNESS COULD COME OUT, WOULD NOT BE SCARED TO TALK TO STANGERS (specially opposite sex), COULD HAVE BEEN BETTER AT SPORTS, COULD HAVE PURSUED MY HOBBIE OF WRITING SINCE LONG BACK, COULD HAVE HAD FRIENDS, COULD HAVE CONTINUED GUITAR, COULD HAVE FUCKING NOT CRIED AND SUFFERED SO MUCH!"
After fighting for almost 2 years like a freedom fighter I got my school changed in 10th class to Bhavan's Vivekananda school and obviously because it was 10th class I had to just study for boards and cleared it later with a lot of efforts as my education in the previous school, in 8th and 9th was not so good so started from scratch, in a new class, in a new school, with few bullies there, new teacher, expectations...etc etc passed successfully and there my learning about self importance, self prioritizing, self love, being selfish, not letting anyone into my trust circle easily...everything related to me as I had to build myself from scratch after the wounds of 4 years.
After boards I joined 11th and 12th class (inter college) in Bhavan's itself as it was CBSE and that was the time I was better and was healing happily as I found my hobby of writing and badminton as the sport I want to play and enjoyed a lot with them. I made few new friends but kept them outside my trust circle so that I don't get hurt again as obviously I was still healing and those friends of mine are not my friends anymore because I never expressed my feelings to them as I myself didn't know that I am dealing with this trauma till date because I suppressed it within me saying, "THAT WAS PAST! I HAVE CHANGED MY SCHOOL AND I AM FINE NOW, HAPPY HAPPY!"
I recently a few days ago started getting nightmares about this 2nd school again in my dreams which is when I realised that I have come this far, am working now, finished my school, inter college and degree college but that memory of toxicity and trust breaking by my friends (on whom I dependent a lot back then, literally pleaded them to be by friends in 9th class after they left me in 8th class) has broken me so much that I don't have any such close bestfriends or anyone with whom I have shared all these details of my mental health fuck up till date.
I am just letting all this out now because today I went there, where the building is the same but it's interiors have completely changed and it is still changing as it is under construction and I knew that I have to move on from those school days but I wanted someone to tell that to me apart from me telling it to myself so I went to that place and the building itself told me, "I AM CHANGING SO SHOULD YOU!" and I know it sounds very philosophical but this really happened to me today and I have to move on from that painful memory to what is in my present and future.
#moving on!
#suppressed emotions are out and fully finally out of me!
