Angsty Idea:
Every time Silver goes back to his future, time shenanigans happen and the new timeline makes him instantly "adapt" to his new world and resets him with new memories. Which wipes out those of the old (now non-existent) timeline including the reasons he went back in time and his actions in the past.
The first time he came back, Sonic and friends dismissed it a bit, figuring they hadn’t interacted for that long and there might have been much more time that had passed for him than them, so they just re-introduce themselves (though it’s the Ifrit timeline and they do find Silver to be generally a lot more aggressive than before). The third time though they start piecing things together. Silver not remembering the brief encounters after the card-camera incident, they could believe, but Silver having no idea who Espio is when he comes back after the Ifrit thing? No way.
But there’s nothing they can really do though. They try to convince him to stay, but he finds their worries silly, of course he’d remember big adventures, why do they keep saying he’ll forget them? But even if he does his best, even if he promises he'll try hard to remember to appease them, he never remembers. Even if they tell him of his own accomplishments, he doesn’t really believe it because, wouldn't he remember it? Wouldn't he remember those amazing people?
He’s sure he would.
And so were they until they got proven wrong over and over.
#silver the hedgehog#they're tempted to wear gopros to show him how he was with them but they also don’t want to distress him with this#rambling

Silver Lining - What If #7 : Solstice & Equinox
Listening to This is V - As Friday is Tae Day
[Music is a very big part of my life and I’m MOSTLY INCAPABLE of writing without music, so I just thought I'd share what I am listening to while writing this]
🐺 — 🐺 — 🐺—
Hello my Dearest Gurls, Bois and Enbies.
It’s been a while since I made an actual post right? Oh and, for the time being, forget about that chapter 2 post, every time I resume writing it, I think about the present state of this fandom and I get so VEXED that I close the file soon after … so yeah, there’s that So, here I am, wanting to share something I thought of yesterday, something completely delulu but quite fun at the same time.
AS ALWAYS, before we get off on DeluluLand, here is a message from our conductor *clears voice*: “Good morning, good afternoon or good evening, I trust I’m finding everyone well and ready to embark into this new trip. As today’s destination is particularly delulu and rather wishful-thinking-esque, I highly suggest bringing the toughest, biggest and shiniest tin hat in your possession, as well as your best clown clothes, with you when you disembark. Now, alas, the temperature is undesirable cold, the skies are pretty foggy and the waters are pretty rough, nonetheless, I do hope you still enjoy the journey, godspeed, this was your captain”.
And now that we are all readily equipped let me welcome you without further ado to:
Jikook Travel Vlog Theory by Marengo!
This isn’t a discussion about what I think the vlog will contain, but more of when I think it/they might be released, or rather, if I were jikook, which I’m obviously not, hence this being a delulu post, I would do it in the way I am about to explain. BUT FIRST, let’s see what knowledge we currently have available:
CONNECTICUT, JEJU, BUSAN, SAPPORO
Now, we know for a fact that they went to Connecticut and Sapporo to film this vlog, as eventually mentioned by JK on Suchwita. In Connecticut no thanks to an asshole we saw them with GoPros and also on their way to, and from, Sapporo, as always “courtesy” of airport warriors. So we have no doubt about those.
Jeju was a rumor that some k-jikookers had began some time last year, which was shutdown as quickly as it came out, but which, none other than our dear Tae confirmed a few months later when he made his Chuseok post on IG. BUT the question is; is the Jeju trip part of the Jikook Travel Vlog?
Last but not least is Busan. Admittedly, Busan is a super filler, guessed and projected destination as we don’t have any sightings of the both of them together last year. In fact, we only have confirmed sighting of JK with his 97 friends, thanks to a local restaurant. YET, yours truly Marengo feels that there might be something worth looking in there🕵🏾♀️. Considering that they are both from Busan, city that they don’t seem to despise, it wouldn’t be too much of a stretch to think that they would want to add it to their travel vlog … but would nobody notice them walking around the big city of Busan? I highly doubt it. Yet more shocking things have been known to happen, so who knows right?
But Marengo - you might be wondering - whats with the title of your post then?! … WELL
You might remember the terms Solstice & Equinox from a very distant Science/Geography lesson in your memory, their definitions are not very complex, but do not worry, it is not in my interest to shove my geeky ass upon you today. What you need to know is that we basically use this particular “occurances” to practically determine the beginning of each season. We have 2 Solstice (Winter and Summer) and 2 Equinox (Spring & Autumn), which usually occur, give or take one day around the same time of the year as follows:
WINTER SOLSTICE - DECEMBER 20/21
SPRING EQUINOX - MARCH 21
SUMMER SOLSTICE - JUNE 20/21
AUTUMN EQUINOX - SEPTEMBER 23
… So, if we follow my VERY DELUSIONAL REASONING we would have 4 DATES (or time periods) and potentially 4 DESTINATIONS.
This year's Spring Equinox has been “taken over” by VHOPE so I don’t think that we would get anything, and even though Jin will be back with us on this year’s Summer Solstice, I doubt he would be promoting right off the bat (like ... I would think he would need time to adjust a bit … BUT WITH BANGTAN WHO KNOWS RIGHT???) … Which is why, in my head, the first VLOG would come out around this year’s Summer Solstice and proceed gradually as follows:
SUMMER SOLSTICE - JUNE 20/21 2024: CONNECTICUT VLOG
This was clearly a summer themed vlog, they were on a yacht, we saw their naked backs, thanks to Jimin, basically it screamed SUMMER
AUTUMN EQUINOX - SEPTEMBER 23 2024: JEJU VLOG ??
This was part of Tae’s Chuseok post, which as we know is a fall korean celebration so yeah, basically it screamed AUTUMN
WINTER SOLSTICE - DECEMBER 20/21 2024: SAPPORO VLOG
For those who don’t know Sapporo is known for it’s snow before the beer 🤡. It holds an annual winter festival which unfortunately the boys were too early for but …, so basically is screamed WINTER
SPRING EQUINOX - MARCH 21 2025: BUSAN VLOG ????
I got nothing for you y’all 😬😬😬, I’ve never been to Busan and once again other than being their birthplace, I couldn’t tell you if there’s anything related to Spring in Busan, but who knows, it might be a … beautiful place to visit in SPRING???
As you can see, the Solstices are rather certain, but the Equinox are hella shaky. YET if you think about it, what would be happening SUMMER SOLSTICE 2025?
ALL THE TANNIES WOULD BE BACK HOME.
… And there you have it.
Now obviously this is all baseless theories, as we have been left to go off on nothing 🤡 and for all we knows they could drop it ALL TOMORROW 🤡 or even make it a weekly thing in May 2025 before they get back to us 🤡.WHO KNOWS RIGHT? THE POSSIBILITIES STILL REMAIN ENDLESS I’m afraid,
If you ask me however, If they did anything other than what I just rambled on, they’d miss out on making this a very instructive and seasonal thing 🙄😒 … BUT, again, THAT’S JUST ME.
Anyways, time to leave DeluluLand y’all, before the wrong people, or worse it’s inhabitants, find us!
Always respectfully yours 💜🫰🏾
Marengo.

mickey i have a rather unusual request to make lol my birthday is coming up (it's this friday - very insightful to be born on women's day) and i know i'm going to have a shitty day because i'm going to work all day and i still have to go to uni at night 💀
anyway, i just know that one of the only things that can improve my day is a blurb of al and bling fucking on his motorcycle because they never did it yet (since sweetener is in the late sias era, my dream is to fuck with him on top of that motorcycle) 🥺
happy birthday anon! 🎂💗
the tune of your boots clicking against the asphalt is harmonious. you purposefully elongate the melody, knowing your lover is in earshot to savor each sound as he watches you approach, almost in a dream-like trance. your hips sway like a metronome, the curve-hugging leather of your mini-skirt quietly rustling as you exit the gas station store, a slushie keeping your hand and mouth occupied.
the details of your figure are prominent beneath the leather of your jacket, the silver zipper of your all-black getup glistening under the gas station's lights. your aura dizzies his head; it almost doesn't seem real, even as you stand beside him.
you slurp away at your drink with your head on alex's shoulder, a tender gesture that reminds him that you are—in fact—real. he finishes his cigarette with a long drag before tossing it to the ground and crushing it beneath his boot. alex rests his head against your own, your warmth and the fruity scent of your shampoo are familiar comforts—all real comforts.
"where to next?" you ask.
"wherever you wanna go." he kisses your head, allowing his arm to snake around your middle.
you set your drink on the ground before walking towards the bike. "take me home then." you shove your icy hands into your pocket. "it's freezing."
"you don't think your outfit is to blame for that?" alex grins.
"i was dressing for the occasion," you chuckle, cupping his warm face in your cold hands. your thumbs graze his pale cheeks as color begins to fill them. "don't act like you don't love it."
"oh, i do." he muses, placing both hands on either side of your hips. "i don't have to act either."
"then don't. show me."
alex's fingers linger along your hips before he sits on the motorcycle again, patting the space he made available for you to sit in front of him. once you straddle the bike, you're surprised your skin could get any colder than it is now, your bare skin freezing against the leather saddle. alex sweeps you into a restless kiss when you connect with the seat; the sweet and slightly tart flavor of the cherry slushie you drank suddenly becomes more indulgent when stuck to your tongue. hooking your fingers in the loops of his jeans, you yank him closer, letting his tongue dwell deeper into your mouth, emitting a hungry groan out of his throat.
his hands need to figure out where to begin, and having you seated on the bike doesn't allow much, either. alex fumbles with the zipper of your jacket, breaking the kiss once it's unzipped and your bare chest is in view, your body jewelry shimmering in the moonlight. his kisses are rough along your neck as he kneads your breasts, gently tugging and twisting your piercings.
you moan as you grind your hips into the seat while his hands work you, digging your manicured nails into his leather-clad shoulder, surely leaving marks in his jacket. Alex pulls your skirt up and grins as you shudder, your unclothed core gushing underneath the frigid air.
"no wonder you're cold." he turns on the gopro mounted in the center of the bike's handlebars. "i ought to spank you for that."
he'll save that for the next video.
you dip backward to rest against the cool metal of the gas tank, holding both handlebars to steady yourself. you hiss as alex slides two cold digits into your wet, warm walls, gripping the handles tighter as his nimble fingers pump in and out of you in a delightful rhythm. his thumb flicks at your clit while his fingers continue thrusting; your hips hover over the seat as your bliss intensifies.
your slick dribbles onto the leather of the bike's seat as you needily roll your hips against his fingers, entirely at his mercy. His fingers come out of you with a squelch, and you whine, continuing to roll your hips against the chilly air; you want something.
the clanking of his belt coming undone makes your cunt swell as he teasingly drags the tip of cock between your soaked, warm folds. your grip on the handles becomes vicious as his cock finally slips inside your aching walls, your toes curling in bliss beneath the sole of your boots. your moans and alex's rapid pants are visible in cloudy puffs in the night sky as his hips collide with yours over and over, your breasts bouncing softly with each delicious snap of his hips.
the humming of cars on the side of the road sends your heart into rapid spasms, the headlights of vehicles visible in tiny, glossy specks of your blurred vision. you break into a warm sweat, and your hands grow clammy as alex's thrusts get more desperate and deeper, the coarse hair lying above his cock drumming against your clit, sending small, lovely buzzes throughout the sensitive bud. alex's hands grip either side of your hips, almost hard enough to bruise the silky skin.
"there's no way we're allowed at this gas station anymore," he chuckles. one of his hands leaves your hips to point to the security camera hoisted above the parking lot's brick wall. "look."
as you rise to glimpse at the camera behind you, alex hauls you into his lap, his hands cupping your ass before giving the flesh a harsh spank.
"let's give 'em a show, pretty girl."
your arms snake around his neck as he guides your hips up and down his cock, a familiar warmth brewing in your belly as his tip slams against your g-spot repeatedly. his nails begin to dig into the skin of your hips when you feel his cock spasm inside you, hot droplets of his forthcoming release spilling onto the seat. you harshly bite marks into his neck as your walls close around him for the final time. alex follows in your tracks, holding your hips in place as he spills inside you, your once-frozen body now hot with sweat and the warm, stickiness of his release fuzzing your pounding chest.
as alex pants away in your ear, you notice a figure slowly making its way toward the both of you. you recognize their clothing, the red and yellow colors of the gas station's logo printed along the collar of their shirt. also, are they holding a broom? you tap on alex's shoulders as the figure becomes clearer, swiftly zipping your jacket and hoping your boyfriend sees the growing panic in your eyes.
you feel the bike tilt as alex kicks up the bike stand, the feeling of angry eyes seeping into his sweaty back and his brain finally picking up on your nervous movements. he turns the keys in the ignition, roaring the engine as you two make it out of the parking lot by the skin of your teeth.
your panic washes away in turn of relief as the large wheels of the bike ride smoothly against the road. You smile to yourself and kiss alex’s cheek, your brows raising when you remember that you may be forgetting something.
"wait! my slushie!"

The Road Trip (2/?)
Hello all and welcome back to The Road Trip (with Max and Lewis)! From now on all parts will be tagged with “#the road trip au” and “#the road trip” for those of you who wish to follow along :). All right, on with the show!
—
Max dawdled in front of the Mercedes motorhome. The lights were on inside and the silver star gleamed menacingly overhead.
Taking a deep breath, Max dashed inside. In a moment of utter panic, he realised he had no idea where to go. So, onward he went.
Max had almost made it through all the way to the back, when suddenly Toto fucking Wolff appeared in his path. The tall Austrian looked Max up and down, then continued on his way.
Frustrated and determined not to show how lost he was, Max continued on his way too. That’s when he heard it. Voices. Lewis.
Max steeled himself and knocked on the door. A head peered around the corner. Fuck, it’s George, Max thought. If there was anyone he got along with less than Lewis Hamilton, it had to be George Russell.
He had potential, but he was even worse than Hamilton in most aspects.
“What are you doing here,” George sneered.
“Hey!” Max heard Lewis shout from inside. “Don’t be rude. Who’s our guest?”
If Lewis only knew he was telling his teammate to be nice to his arch-rival. Max knew as well as anyone that if any driver was going to challenge Max all the way to the last race, it was going to be Lewis.
Max dreaded the idea. If Mercedes really did catch up, it was going to be 2021 all over again. He’d much rather drive out front, thirty seconds ahead of the next car than scrap with Hamilton every single race.
“It’s Max Verstappen,” George said, looking Max up and down. “By all means,” Max heard Lewis say, “let him in then. You don’t let the reigning champion stand in the hallway!”
“Fine,” George acquiesced as he stepped aside with a fake smile. “I’ll go,” George announced as Max stepped past him and came face to face with Lewis.
“Yeah, all right. Enjoy your evening, George!” Lewis shouted after the young brunet. George didn’t respond and Lewis just rolled his eyes.
“Don’t pay attention to George. He was just busy explaining to me that him impeding me in quali was actually my fault and that he would’ve finished ahead of me if he had driven a good quali lap, so…”
“Never thought I’d say this, but what an idiot. There’s no way he would’ve finished ahead of you,” Max said, raking his hand through his hair as he tried to hide the blush creeping onto his cheeks.
Lewis only smiled, his teeth gleaming in the dim light. “Don’t flatter me, Max. Our relationship isn’t like that. Now do tell, what brought you here?”
“Well, I have a favour to ask,” Max asked, his eyes downcast.
“A favour? My, my. A day full of surprises indeed. What kind of favour?”
“I wanted to ask if you’d like to go on a road trip with me.”
Lewis immediately sat up straighter and arched an eyebrow. “You want me to go on a road trip with you? Why?”
“Well, it’s for the socials. I thought, you know, if we could show our fans that we can get along…” Max paused, knowing Lewis understood what he meant.
“They’d stop warring. If you think it’ll work, then sure, I’ll come.”
Max let out a breath he didn’t know he’d been holding. “Just like that? I thought this was going to be way more difficult.”
“Just like that. When are we leaving?”
“As soon as we’ve gathered our stuff, I think,” Max said with a shrug.
“Very well then, let’s get packing. And I’ll call the dogsitter that she’ll need to take care of Roscoe for a while longer.”
By the time they made it to the car with all their luggage in tow, the social media crew was already waiting for them.
“All right,” someone said. “We’ve outfitted the car with cameras and GoPro’s, in the most non-intrusive spaces of course, so they won’t hinder you as you drive. The fans will be able to follow you as you go—with a delay of course or else you’re getting nowhere—and you’ll be required to film a daily report. Now, you can always mute yourselves should you want to have a private conversation, but of course we’d like to get as much as possible on camera and with audio.”
Max and Lewis shared a look, but Max couldn’t quite read the other man’s gaze. Especially when all he did was smile politely. Was it real, was it fake, Max didn’t know.
“And where will we be going?” Lewis asked.
“The plan is for you to tour around Italy and then drive to Zandvoort from there in time for the Grand Prix,” some social media intern piped up as she handed them their itineraries. “Any further questions?”
“Yes,” Max said. “Who will drive the first leg of the journey?”
“How about you drive?” Lewis said, a beaming smile on his face as his teeth glinted in the sunlight.
Max shrugged. “All right. In that case, I think we’re done. What do you say Lewis, should we get on the road?”
As the Range Rover with the two drivers inside drove away, Christian shared a look with the head of the social media crew, who asked, “How long until one of them begs us to come pick him up from the side of the road?”
“I give it two days,” Christian said, hiding a chuckle behind his hand. “You willing to put money on that, boss?” the Social Media Manager asked.
“Yeah, £100 says they’ll last two days at most.”
“Noted,” the Social Media Manager said. “I’ll see your £100 and raise you £500, by saying they’ll last a week.”
“And I’ll see your bet and raise you both,” a third voice with a thick Austrian accent piped up. “£1000 says they’ll make it all the way to Zandvoort.”
“That is bold, Wolff,” Christian said. “We’ll take it. Let’s see which one of us ends up being right. May the best man win.”
They shook hands to make it official.
—
All right, that’s it for part two! Hope you enjoyed and please let me know your thoughts🫶🏻

Need an action camera when smartphones are good enough? ✅ QUEEN MOBILE ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Need an action camera when a smartphone is good enough? First, the first camera I owned was the Kodak EasyShare Sport, a waterproof digital camera that could take 12MP photos and was sturdy enough to go anywhere. Soon after, I tested my first action camera, a GoPro Hero 3+ Silver Edition. These waterproof and action cameras are not only used for durability, but they also outperform the phone…

Book Excerpt/Chapter Twelve/Zombie Walk
July 23rd, 2021: Eight years after retirement from police work –
Just before midnight, I was screaming to work on my CBR650F sportbike, rocketing north on I-75 toward Lexington, Kentucky at positively insane speeds, deep into triple digits, jinking in and out of traffic like a fighter pilot dodging chaff down MIG Alley, blurring past normies, my engine a shrieking apocalypse between my knees, buzzing furiously against my belly, balls and bones. Knees and elbows wrapped snugly against the metal and plastic of my beautiful machine as hurricane-force winds howled over my silver-helmeted head.
My GoPro Hero cameras captured the ride.
130 mph … 135 mph … 140 mph … ever climbing, smoothly downshifting to build up even more RPMs; 145mph … 147 mph …
My armor was, and is, black and silver – a leather jacket incorporating plate and woven titanium over D3O armor panels designed to put the force of an inopportune impact to work by causing the molecules to stiffen, knitted together within a leather carrier: Isle of Man Tourist Trophy - grade racing gear.
… 150 mph … 152 mph …
Underneath my Icon TiMax ® jacket, I wore an Icon Striker Vest ® of CE and additional D3O armor, the back and chest like Roman lorica segmentata, thick panels protecting my spine, ribs, and sternum.
… 155 mph … 157 mph …
Jarred motorists on the road that night experienced me as a meteoric flash of light and a Doppler-shifted engine-shriek raging past them; a single red tail light disappearing into the distance: YYEEEEEOWWwwwww!... I saw them swerve around my elbows in my rearview mirrors, a tenth or two of a mile beyond them before their nerve synapses could even register my passing.
[My love of speed and lack of hypocrisy was why my old police supervisors virtually had to hold me at gunpoint to write a speeding ticket – assuming that, ahem, my radar wasn’t broken again.]
…158 mph … c'mon, babe: Honda says you'll do 161 mph … pushing it, pushing it –
Downshifting; upshifting; delicately feathering my way along the fine edges of the engine's redline like Chuck Yeager seeking to precipitate that very first sonic boom –
I felt aerodynamic lift across the curve of my red medic's backpack, Bernoulli's principle kicking in–
And somewhere in the back of my mind, I recalled troublesome statistics:
Motorcyclists are twenty-seven times more likely to have a fatal crash than automobile drivers –
And that was during daylight hours, riding at legal speeds.
Pfft! I somehow felt protected, invincible beyond my armor. Or maybe it was just normalcy bias: The Bad Thing would never happen to me.
And if it did, oh well … OLAS: Our Lives Are Shit.
From the waist down, I wore specially crafted jeans made of Kevlar and Aramid fibers – a hot, sweaty garment to clump around in but, at these extreme velocities, cool as ice as night air poured around the bike's fairings, hitting my thighs. Internal pockets within the jeans held even more panels of molecular armor.
Beneath all that, I wore Force Field ® shorts, composed of overlapping sheets of molecular and CE armor protecting my hips, thighs and coccyx. My knees and lower legs were protected by articulated molecular and CE armor, and my ankles and feet by knee-high Icon Overlord boots that incorporated the same fabulous tech.
It amounted to bit more than three thousand dollars of racing armor, a considerable fraction of the cost of the bike itself. All of it was designed to give riders a fighting chance in a crash at 200 mph.
… 158 mph … 159 mph … 159 mph …
The rev limiter was kicking in, preventing me from damaging the engine by going any faster. I cursed bitterly.
Tucking tighter against the bike, fusing with it, the chin of my helmet pressing hard against the gas cap, a high-frequency buzz transferring to my sinuses and eyeballs now as I tightly pulled in my arms and knees to reduce the drag across my leather, titanium and red ballistic nylon –
… 159 mph … 159 mph … 159 mph …
Circuit breakers in, here comes throttle -
Stick yanked back, teeth clenched: C'mon, Glamorous Glennis -
Frustrated, I finally yelled, "Damned factory down-tuned 650cc engine!" into my chin mike adaptor, a bit of tech borrowed, appropriately enough, from the aerospace industry. I imagined exotic mods to the fuel system, the airbox, the exhaust, and the bike's onboard computer system –
– Or maybe just a much bigger bike.
Kinetic reality rudely intruded into my mechanical and mathematical reveries.
Glancing back up from the instrument cluster, I counter-leaned sharply around what would be a gentle Interstate curve at reasonable velocities.
Scant seconds ahead, two slow-moving eighteen-wheelers were running parallel to one another in the center and right lanes. The cherry on top was a hillbilly in a black Chevy Silverado running alongside those two lumbering boxes in the supposedly "fast" lane, forming a rolling 65 mph roadblock.
Automatically I registered that the Chevy was drifting back and forth between lane dividers – a textbook symptom of drunk driving as I reverted to Cop Mode in a millisecond.
No matter: Threat acquired, taking evasive action –
I had no missiles onboard.
I was the missile.
I imagined the Chevy trucker slurringly singing along to some awful corporate country tune on Lexington's 98.1 The Bull – slo-mo, nose-yodeling about cheatin' in some Mississippi honky-tonk as he balanced a long-neck Bud Light on his lap, waving madly at the eighteen-wheelers that he hovered alongside of.
"Hey, bruhs, Ha-ha-ha," I imagined him braying as he bobbed his bulbous head to a bovine beat. "I got me a truck too!"
I envisioned the semi-drivers laughing at this idiot before glancing into their rearview mirrors at my blazing, fast-approaching headlight, chattering excitedly back and forth on their CB radios: "What the hell is that thing?"
My iPhone-driven earbuds blasted harsh metal as I hurtled toward the trucks at more than twice their speed.
"Feeling some bow shock and turbulence now," I shouted into the mic, over the wind-scream. "Looks like I got maybe three or four feet of clearance on either side if I pass on the right side of the pickup. Bonsai!"
Erratic winds from these three blocky vehicles shivered me timbers as I closed with them in a flash.
I wanted to screw with this drunken asshole in his shiny new, jacked-up, over-chromed Silverado that looked like an apartment building on wheels. I grinned like Death Hisself as I imagined him spilling his beer into his lap.
Then the Silverado and the eighteen-wheelers lurched magically to either side, out of my path, giving me more like eight or ten feet of clearance at each elbow.
Spearing down the lane divider, I slipped through, automatically downshifting, upshifting, catching a torque wheelie.
"Hoo-yah" I hooted."
There had been no turbulence, only pristine air as smooth as silk … which honestly didn't seem sane or logical. The aerodynamic forces should have been violent, especially with me on just one wheel. But there was … nothing, just a glassy glide down a dreamy, windless chute.
I was 61 years old: certainly old enough to know better. But a chorus of ancient and persistent voices in my head chanted: do you really wanna live forever?
The next morning, I plugged my helmet, camera still attached, into the media player attached to the large-screen TV in the living room and reviewed this dire footage with my wife, Angie.
She watched with a thousand-yard stare. I could guess her thoughts: One of these days you won't come home and I'll wake up a widow, glum Kentucky State Troopers knocking at the door: “Hello, are you Missus Jones? Well, there's been something of an accident…”
Re-watching the trucks part as I blasted between them, I saw their parting had been far more dramatic than I'd realized.
A moment after I burst from between these massive vehicles, Angie snapped back into the present and said, "Did you see that?"
"See what?"
"Hit pause," she said. "Scrub back. Just as you went between them, I think one of them took a picture of you. What if they got your license number?"
"What?"
"There's a blue flash. Go back, back … ok, now press play."
There was a scintillating blue light, just for an instant, between the trucks.
"I don't think that's a photo flash," I said, backing up again.
I advanced frame-by-frame. My GoPro was set to record at a rate of 30 frames per second (FFS). The odd blue light lasted for exactly twenty-three frames, .76 seconds before I swept below it.
"See," I said, "it's not a photo flash. Whatever it is, it's small – about the size of, I don't know, a football maybe? It seems positioned outside the trucks entirely."
"You don't think one of those assholes tried shining a laser into your eyes or something?" she said, watching the hazy blue light evolving and changing shape frame-by-frame as I rewound and replayed; rewound and replayed.
"Naw," I said. "Lasers are red or green, not blue like that. Maybe it's just static discharge like I used to see on helo rotors when I flew at night, NODs up (night optical/observation devices). When metal encounters dust at high speed, friction can generate effects like that."
Except that static from Huey or Blackhawk rotors was only visible with NODS. Or maybe my GoPro was sensitive to such things. I studied the spooky blue light: it had a structure that conjured Rorschach blots in my mind. It was weird that I didn't remember seeing the blue light with my own eyes in realtime. Then again, at that extreme speed, operating on raw reflexes –
"Probably just a lens flare," I finally shrugged dismissively. "Don't worry; I was moving way too fast for them to get my plate number; I mean, I was just a blur to them at that point -"
The following night, to my eternal regret, I over-wrote this data on my GoPro with fresh footage.
Arriving at work the night I'd filmed the odd light, I started to remove my armor outside the one non-camera-covered storage room where I changed.
A second-shift supervisor studied me poisonously, glaring from between a flanking set of sycophants.
"So," he sneered, "How are things on the moon?"
"Cold, dry, and dusty," I snapped back, peeling off layers of what could certainly pass for a space suit, except for the hachimaki headband tied around my forehead. "Just like your old lady."
My bon mot would have provoked raucous laughter back in my Army or police days. But here, the reaction was that of a maiden aunt suddenly exposed to a porn video.
Me? I laughed hard enough into that musty, tomb-like space to resurrect every damn mummy in Egypt. I felt half-dead myself, though, despite the exhilaration of the ride and the resulting quarts of adrenaline, cortisol, and testosterone sloshing around in my system.
Jaysus, I just wanted to fight someone, like back in the Good Ol' Days.
