"People are much more likely to do favors for you if they like or trust you, you know." Mabel says it with the patience of a pre-school teacher trying to explain the necessity of nap time.

"Then what can I do to make you like or trust me? Gimme somethin' to work with here."

Mabel purses her lips. "Hmmm." She looks at Dipper and shrugs. "Any ideas?"

"An apology would be a start." Dipper says it through grit teeth again. His hands are kind of starting to hurt from how hard he's got his fingers curled around the baseball bat.

"Oh! You should've said, that's easy! I'm sorry, kid!" Bill sounds positively delighted. Like he just solved a century-old philosophical problem, or like he just figured out how to get exactly what he wants with minimal effort.

Dipper squints at him. "What for?"

There's a beat of silence. "You're the one who wanted an apology just a second ago, so you tell me."
