u can actually tell if a writer had actually bother to research a country’s customs, etc if they’re writing a poc (in this case, east asian) character who lived there, sometimes it gets way off that i just close the tab and open weibo or pixiv to read sth from there instead

There's a disturbing number of people that aren't jpn/korean taking on jpn / korean names ....like my korean name literally got made fun of by kids and now those same kids are using korean names as an aesthetic for their online persona???? Or even worse RENAMING THEMSELVES??? It's racist. Point blank. They don't even know how much care and time go into selecting Japanese names.
