girl help I'm thinking about the tragedy of the dellamorte family
#here's the thing#so caterina had 5 children and 8 granchildren and everyone but 2 are still alive#so first of all wow no wonder caterina is *like that* if she saw literally all of her children die#and then 6 of her grandchildren#god that even means that like...ok bc here's the thing at least lucanis and illario being alive means at least 2 of her children live#through them#the famous 'something to remember them by'#but that means she has nothing of the other 3#also this is where i get into HEAVY HC territory#but the possibility of lucanis and illario having had siblings#i like to think the two of them were the youngest grandchildren and part of them feeling so like brothers#is the knowledge that they had siblings who are now gone#also#again hc#but if lucanis's mom was caterina's favorite#i wouldn't be surprised if that's why he's her favorite#what if lucanis reminds her of his mom#and god what if that's why she was so harsh#the famous 'maybe if i had taught your mom better she would be alive so i need to be harsh with you bc i need you to survive'#like blinded by her grief its why she fucks up in the parenting
