while i am truly sorry my joke didnt land, i didnt mentioned katara's reaction in my ask because i noticed you tend to stay away from aang related drama/discourse so i didnt want to share my thoughts on that. originally the anon ask ended with me saying that actually katara would be the one punching him tbh but i thought "well nerdylizj is on the fence about aang so i better not go bothering her by yapping about his noncon kiss and how angry im with him and how much i hope katara kicks his ass over it" and cut it out. like he literally disregarded her wishes, that she made it clear back on the north pole. i get that by the way you framed their convo he understood wrongly, that she felt the same as he did and that zuko was okay with it, but mistaken or not, katara must have felt so deeply betrayed by aang's actions of not respecting her family and marriage like he said he would....... if i were her, idk if could forgive that, not to mention that i would feel like losing my best friend.
i 100% didn't think u had bad intentions and in no way did i expect u to defend ur message/want you to feel the need to. i got you beloved <3
i am sorry u got the brunt of my frustration. 99% of these comments are on ao3 and there's just no good way to respond to those takes on there in an overarching way. i don't have the wherewithal to go through them one-by-one
you are rightttttt, i do try to stay away from The Discourse so i appreciate your thoughtfulness on this! that said, i did write a scene that is used as discourse fodder so i am gonna have to accept my own role in it now 😭😭 maybe i am my own worst enemy..
YEAH! i agree with you. it's such a deep betrayal on top of others. who she can trust - and with what - is truly beginning to unravel around her.
just a note, though - and not in defense of aang's actions - but he didn't accept her marriage in the north pole as much as he accepted that she believed in it while she thought she was kya.
(“...That Lee and Kya love each other and we love our son and we were happy.”
“Katara,” Aang says softly, his face wrought with something unnameable.
“And I need you to believe it as much as I do, especially if you care about me like you say you do,” Katara says resolutely. “Because it’s just as true as anything could ever be. And I refuse to have it taken away from me, do you understand? Nothing can take that away. Not even my memories or prying questions or anyone else’s doubt. We were happy.”)
and it makes sense. why wouldn't she want to hold onto the belief that Lee and Kya had a choice when the alternative is so painful - that their life was machinated and their agency torn from them?
the betrayal isn't that aang accepted her marriage and kissed her without permission anyway
the betrayal is that aang saw how much Katara desperately needed to believe she had a choice while she was Kya and kissed her without permission anyway. He saw a woman struggling with having no choice and still didn't give her one
does that make sense or am i sounding crazy 😭😭😭 maybe it's time to me to go to bed
#anon#trust meee i can sense u have sent me messages before and i know we have vibed previously#we are Good#god i haven't yapped this much on tumblr dot com in years
