have you ever written a 10 page critical analysis essay? I have to write one, it can be on basically anything that conveys a story (literature, art, music, movies, tv, videogames, etc) I could probably blather on about my favorite game for several pages, but I'm not very familiar with critical analysis

Some major critical theories that people use all the time are race, gender, and class (marxist) analyses. These are considered lens as to how you are seeing a situation or story medium when using them to write a critical analysis of something.

As a sociology major, all I did was critical theories lol, do not be afraid of them they're not scary to write about and I bet you can find one to apply to whatever it is you wanna talk about easy peasy. A lot of critical theory can be understood by remembering it centers on the idea of conflict occurring. Class conflict is the most obvious example to use, Marxist theory discussing the conflict between the bourgeois and the proletariat. An example of a movie where a Marxist analysis works extremely well, bc its baked into the movie, is Parasite. How does your story present their conflict, who is a part of it/on which side, how does this affect the story/drive it/change it, how does it affect the characters, or what major themes and takeaways does this have on the viewer?

I expect you will have an easier time if you picked something you like like the game and then work on deciding which lens works best for it, then go from there. Also, if you have questions don't be afraid to ask your prof or teacher for clarification on what they're looking for!
