Records of Jiankang, 2
[Covers 200 - 206]
At the time Cao Cao was already grappling Yuan Shao, but was not able to incarcerate [him]. Because of that he and Ce were on good terms, he used his younger brother's daughter as match for Ce's youngest brother Kuang, and again had his son Zhang obtain Ce's elder brother's son Ben's daughter as Lady.
5th Year of Jian'an, 4th Month [2 May – 30 May 200], the Grand Warden of Guangling, Chen Deng was seated at Sheyang. He covertly dispatched hidden envoys using seals and ribbons to the remnants of Yan Baihu's faction, at the meeting they investigated plans for defeating Ce. Ce secretly knew about it, and punished Deng, arriving at Dantu. He heard Cao Cao and Yuan Shao were confronting each other at Guandu, and wanted and desired to plan for crossing the Jiang and welcome Emperor Xian.
Earlier, the Grand Warden of Wu commandery, Xu Gong saw that Ce was brave and noble, and therefore petitioned:
Ce's bravery covers Under Heaven, his valiant heroism resembles Xiang Yu, [I] request the Imperial Court to summon [him] to enter, if not done he will surely be a later worry.
Ce covertly knew about it, and sent people to intercept and obtain his petition, and summoned Gong  to call him into account for it. He ordered martial soldiers to strangle and kill [him].
When thus the troops were garrisoned above the Jiang, he because of that set out to hunt, his horse was excellent, and he left the accompanying cavalry far behind. Gong's retainer Xu Zhao ambushed and stabbed him, wounding his face.
At the time a Scholar of the Way from Langye, Yu Ji, had the arts of the Way, he came and went within Wu, his sayings about affairs were often verified. Of the various generals accompanying Ce two out of three bowed to Ji, Ce detested it. When he had arrived at Dantu, he called him into account on his affairs on floods and droughts, and executed Ji. When he himself afterwards sat alone, he often saw that Ji was to the left or right.
When he was wounded by Xu Zhao, the methods for handling of the wound were faulty. Ce was tough by nature, he took a mirror to reflect his face, seeing the infected wound, and then angrily said:
A greatly respected man wants to establish a meritorious profession, and yet it made [my] face like this!
Thereupon he hurled the mirror with a great shout, the wound split and he died. At the time he was 26 years old. [Note L]
For later affairs he entrusted to his younger brother Quan, and relied on Senior Clerks Zhang Zhao and Zhang Hong to assist him. As the end drew near he looked at to Quan and spoke, saying:
In raising up the multitudes of Jiangdong, seizing the moment between two columns, striving for mastery with Under Heaven, Sir is not like me. In raising up the worthy and rely on the able, everyone exhausting their hearts, and thereby protecting Jiangdong, I am not like Sir.
Finished speaking, he passed on. Quan presided over the mourning and had not yet reached the end of it. Zhang Zhao spoke to Quan, saying:
When a man becomes the successor, he values being able to carry the burden for the former path, achieving prosperity for the government buildings, thereby completing the meritorious profession. Just now the tripods of Under Heaven are boiling, dholes and wolves fill the roads. If this then is a time for wailing, it is like opening the gates and waiting for the robbers, and is not to be humane.
He then changed Quan's clothes, helped him atop the horse, and made him set out to patrol and travel with the army squads. [Note M]
[Note L] Note: Records of Seeking the Supernatural: When he had killed Yu Ji, in every reflected mirror, he saw Ji being within it, when he looked back he did not see [him], it was like this twice or thrice. Because of that he threw the mirror with a great shout, the wound split, and at that instant moment he died.
[Note M] Note: Tabular Records of Jiang: Jian was Assistant of Xiapi when he begot Quan. He had a broad forehead and great mouth, his eyes had a focused shine. Jian was amazed by him, and considered that he would surely be very accomplished. He followed his older brother Ce on conquests and attacks, always putting up unusual schemes. Ce looked at Quan and spoke to the multitudes, saying:
This is truly the General of you Lords!
At that time Wu first had Kuaiji, Wu, Danyang, Yuzhang and Luling commanderies. The ground of extreme steepness similarly was not yet completely adhering, and the heroes and worthies of Under Heaven spread in the provinces and commanderies. The soldiers of guests and retainers, depending on peace and danger, came and went as they thought, and had not yet been solidified into lords and subjects.
When Quan had taken command of affairs, he used Zhou Yu, Cheng Pu, Lü Fan and others as claws and teeth; Generals Lu Su, Zhuge Jin, Bui Zhi and Lu Xun as belly and heart for guests and retainers. He summoned and welcomed the brave and talented, and distributed [them as?] generals of the sections. He quelled and consoled the Yue of the mountains and punished those not following the instructions. He sent Taishi Ci to quell Haihun. Han Dang, Zhou Tai and Lü Meng were chiefs of troubled counties.
6th Year of Jian'an [201 AD], Spring, the Grand Warden of Lujiang set up by Ce, Li Shu, heard Ce had died, and thereupon did not follow the instructions. He therefore wrote to Quan, saying:
To have virtue is to be seen to revert, to be without virtue is to be seen to rebel, do not obey and turn back. [?]
Quan was angry, and conquered him himself, exposed his head, butchered his city, and moved his private troops, 20 000 people, to follow him east across the Jiang.
8th Year [203 AD], he used his younger brother Yi to replace Wu Jing as acting Grand Warden of Danyang.
9th Year [204 AD], a great assembly of the companions and subordinates. Due to an affair executed Shen You.
Shen You, courtesy name Zizheng, was a native of Wu. As a youth he excelled at studying, had broad knowledge and was clear and well-articulate, he was good at composing words, and often made discerning speeches. At the time people considered the marvels of You's writing brush, the marvels of his tongue, and the marvels of his knife to be 3 marvels beyond ordinary people. When Quan arrived in Wu, he summoned and honoured him, and together they discussed the great plans of kings and hegemons, and the activities of the time period. You was by nature loyal and frank, firm at court with a stern countenance, he was slandered by the multitudes. Quan likewise considered that he in the end could not be used by him, and for that reason killed him.
10th Year [205 AD], Spring, he went to Jiaoqiu, and sent the Chief Commandant He Qi to punish Shangrao [?], and divided off and set up Jianping county.
This year, the Chief Commandant of Danyang, Gui Lan, the commandery Assistant, Dai Yuan, and others plotted with Bian Hong to kill the Grand Warden, Sun Yi. Yi's wife Xu Min together with Yi's close friends, Sun Gao, Fu Ying and others plotted against Lan and Yuan, and killed them with hidden blades. They completely executed their faction and used Lan and Yuan's heads to sacrifice at Yi's grave.
11th Year [206 AD], the Chief Commandant of Jianchang, Taishi Ci, passed on.
Taishi Ci, courtesy name Ziyi, was a native of Huang in Donglai. As young he excelled at studying, he served the commandery as a clerk on the Board of Memorials. It happened that the commandery and the province had a quarrel, crooked or straight, those were heard first [by the imperial court] had the advantage. At the time the province's letter had already departed. The commandery warden was considerably apprehensive and searched for someone who could be sent.
Ci at the time was 21 years old, he was selected to travel and carried the commandery's letter. From dawn to dusk he took to the road, and arrived at Luoyang. He reached the chariot gates of the Excellencies and saw the province's clerk. He took his letter by trickery and in that way managed to to ruin it. He explained the clerk and him had destroyed it together, and they set out form the city. He secretly returned and passed on the commandery's letter. Then to avoid quarrel with the province he went to Liaodong.
The Chancellor of Beihai. Kong Rong, heard of his fame and righteousness, sent gifts to his home, and asked and inquire about his old mother. When the Yello Turban thieves besieged Kong Rong, the mother urgently summoned Ci to return, and ordered him rescue to Rong. Ci travelled alone directly to Duchang. He waited for a gap to enter and see Rong. He spoke of his old mother's thoughts of gratitude [?], and requested thereby to seek outside aid, and cause the retreat without diminishing the Office Lord's troops. Because of that he then began in city to pretend practising horse archery [?], he waited for thieves to relax, easily burst through the siege and set out. He sought help from Liu Bei, thereby broke the siege of Duchang and then returned. He informed his mother, the mother said:
I am delighted of you having recompensed Kong of Beihai.
Later when the Inspector of Yang province, Liu Yao, crossed the Jiang, Cii accompanied his private troops. It happened that Sun Ce punished Yao. Ci rode alone to set out and watch out. Finally [?] he encountered Ce at Shenting, Ce was followed by Han Dang, Song Qian, Huang Gai and others, 13 cavalry Ci then went forward alone unexpectedly [?], and properly faced off with Ce. Ce stabbed Ci's horse, and then grabbed and took Ci's above the neck and the halberd in his hand [?], Ci likewise took Ce's pot helmet. It happened that the pair's household troops came and they then disengaged.
He and Yao together fled for Yuzhang. On the road from Wuhu, he absconded into the mountains. He called [himself] Grand Warden of Danyang, and established his garrison and office in Jing county. Following up he was routed by Ce, and [Ce] arrested him, he grabbed his hand and said:
What if [you had] known at the time of Shenting [?], if you Sir had taken me, what would [you] had done?
Ci said:
[I] cannot guess.
Ce greatly laughed and said:
The affairs of Under Heaven, Sir and [I] must be together about them.
He designated him Chief Controller Beneath the Gates. He followed him to return to Wu, and was moved to Commander of the Palace Gentlemen who Breaks the Charge. [Ce] deeply entrusted and relied on him, and always discussed plans with him. [They] heard Liu Yao had died in Yuzhang, but his officers and multitudes of more than 10 000 people were not yet adhering. Ce spoke to Ci, saying:
Shepherd Liu formerly called me into account for the Yuan clan's attack on Lujiang. His ideas were rather commonplace, [and his] managing mercy insufficient. Why? The Former Lord had by his hand several thousand troops, and to the end was on the path of lords. Why?
The troops handled by the Former Lord, several thousand troops, were to the end with Gonglu [Yuan Shu]. Your Orphan's aspirations was to establish affairs, and did not manage to not stay and bend to Gonglu. [I] requested to guide the old troops, [but in] two trips merely obtained a thousand people. Then [he] ordered Your Orphan to attack Lujiang. At that time affairs were forced, and [I] did not manage to not be acting.
However he later did not obey the regulations of a subject, threw himself away to make evil and usurp affairs. [I] remonstrated with him, [but he] did not follow. A respected man is righteous in relationships, if at all there is a great mishap, he cannot but leave. Your Orphan at first had relations with Gonglu and then broke off with him. From beginning to end it was like this.
Now Excellency Liu has sadly perished, [I] regret [I] did not discus and argue with him while he was alive. However his son is in Yuzhang. [I] do not know how Hua Ziyu's treatment [of him] is like. His private troops, will they again rely on and follow him, or not?
Sir, as a native of [his] province, and who formerly also assisted him in affairs, is truly able to go and look after the son, and likewise present Your Orphan's ideas to the private troops. Those of the private troops who are happy to come, immediately come with them. Those who are not happy however, calm and console them. Also if observe Ziyu's shepherding and management are square and lawful, and see if the people of Lujianf [sic] and Poyang fondly adhere to him or not. Of the troops handled by Sir, command many or few according to your own opinion.
Ci replied, saying:
Sir has crimes which are not be forgiven. The General's capacity is similar to Huan [of Qi] and Wen [of Jin]. [Your] treatment is beyond expectations. The ancients when recompensing life for death [?], in their exhausting authority [?], died then afterwards themselves [?]. Now for this mission, [I] ought not have many troops, [only] several tens of people, myself is sufficient for departing and returning.
Left and right heard Ce had sent Ci, all privately remonstrated that Ci was difficult to measure, and to dispatch him was a bad plan. Ce said:
You Lords say all it is bad, Your Orphan has considered it thoroughly. Taishi Ziyi, although he is brave and zealous, does not indulge in crossing people. In his heart he has the plans of a gentleman, his righteousness is heavily approved [?], a single thought allows him to know himself, life or death do not carry each other [?]. You Lords must not fret about him.
He set out himself to see him off at the main gate, held his wrists separately [?] and said:
At what time will [you] return?
He replied, saying:
Not in more than 60 days.
At the appointed time he returned to report, saying to Ce:
Ziyu has not talent for devising plans, and is only defending himself, that is all. Now in Luling and Poyang nobody accepts Ziyu's instructions. Above Haihun there are hunting excursions [?], a covenant having more than 6 000 households, joining and assembling to make lineage squads, only conveying rent and cloth to the commandery and that is all. Send out a summon and not single person cannot be obtained [?].
Ce grasped his hand with a great laugh, and thereupon they were equally united in their hearts [?]. Then he designated Ci as Chief Commandant of Jianchang, seated at Haihun, to supervise the various generals and thereby resist Liu Biao's nephew Pan.
Ci was 7 chi, 7 cun tall, with a pleasing beard and whiskers, he had gibbon arms and was good at shooting, his bowstring had no false shots. He once followed Ce to punish Mabao [?]. The traitor on the inside of the defences climbed on top of the tall buildings and made curses, with his hands grasping the beams of the building. Ci pulled his bow and shot at him, the arrow went through his hand and stuck to the beam, the besieging then thousand people could not but call it good. Cao Cao heard of his fame, and sent him a letter, using a small box to seal it. When Ci opened it up to scrutinize there was nothing expressed [?],  only a store of angelica [danggui 當歸]. When Quan commanded affairs, he considered Ci to be able to control Liu, and exclusively appointed him to the affairs of the southern regions. He passed on aged 42.

Rogue None
Okay, there’s an entire cottage industry of people at this point who have massive plans to “fix” the prequels--like, I’m sure there’s a Max Landis video somewhere where he Aspegers for two hours about his totally awesome version of the prequels that probably reached such peak obnoxiousness that Trump was elected--and I can’t help but look down at anyone claiming they could totally make a better version of Star Wars (or anything) without even being able to write out a screenplay, much less direct, edit, produce, what have you. It seems to me that you could describe the prequels exactly as they are in a Youtube video and they would sound great (”We meet Darth Vader, but he’s an innocent little kid, so you’re always aware of that goodness he had in him initially when he later turns to the Dark Side.”)
That said, while I might not be able to do a page-one rewrite of Rogue One that’s better than a movie where a CGI robot is the most charismatic character, I do have a few common sense suggestions that I think we can all agree on.
1. What’s Orson Krennic Got To Do With It?
Tumblr media
Okay, I only watched the movie once, so maybe I’m missing something, but... what was the point of this character? He was the main antagonist of the story, correct? What impact did he ever have on the plot?
In a movie where pretty much every character was painfully underdeveloped, to the point where the audience was unsure whether two of them were gay lovers or not, it seems like we got a lot of scenes where this Krennic guy, who’s totally pointless in the long run, went to see Grand Moff Tarkin or Darth Vader and just jawed with them for a while.
Don’t get me wrong, he’s played by a great actor, he has a cool look, and there are even some grace notes to his characterization. But, seriously, what’s he doing there? Is he just there to give Jyn an arch-nemesis? He doesn’t even know who she is until the climax, and his comeuppance is to get shot from behind by someone else just before he can shoot Jyn. It seems like if that’s the best kiss-off you can come up with for your villain, maybe you shouldn’t bother with a villain at all.
Maybe he’s there to put a face to the Empire? I don’t think the enemy force in a war movie particularly needs a face. Imagine if Saving Private Ryan had had a subplot about one really awful Nazi who just so had it in for Matt Damon. That’d be stupid, right? Plus, we already have Darth Vader, Tarkin, the Emperor...
You cut him out, you lose nothing, but you have much more time to spend on other story elements that need development.
2. Deathtroopers.
Tumblr media
Call me crazy, but when the main villain of a movie has his own elite personal guard, and they’re called Deathtroopers, and they wear highly distinctive black armor... you’d think they’d be functionally different in some way from every other Stormtrooper ever? Maybe they could be like the Darktroopers in Star Wars: Dark Forces, who were these super-tough Terminator Stormtroopers.
Tumblr media
Or maybe they could be like the SCAR Squad Spec Ops Stormtroopers from the comics.
Tumblr media
Or I guess they could just be normal Stormtroopers, but, y’know, black. Because that’s a scary color.
Maybe I’m silly, but imagine instead of Krennic, we have this small squad of Deathtroopers who are hunting the heroes everywhere they go. They have rare, expensive armor that can deflect blaster fire, so the heroes have to come up with clever ways to dispatch them, like tricking them into airlocks and venting them, or bringing down a building on top of them.
Maybe they have jetpacks too, or their armor is powered armor like Iron Man in the Star Wars universe, making them really hard to defeat. And as the story goes on, they get taken out one by one, like the terrorists in a Die Hard movie. So with each one that goes down, you know the heroes are closer to achieving their goal, but also that the last survivor is going to be the toughest and most deadly one there is.
You wouldn’t have to have any long scenes of these guys meeting with Darth Vader or whining about office politics either. Maybe just show them acing some training obstacle course before being sent on assignment. Or quelling a civilian uprising with some heinous war crime so we know they’re bad guys and root against them. Or maybe they could be like Master Chief from HALO and they have to be entombed into their armor, and underneath they’re all crazy deformed with cybernetics so you get that these guys are real nasty fanatics. That could be kind of creepy.
3. Why’d they go to this planet?
Tumblr media
It seems like Hollywood has forgotten what a men on a mission movie is actually about. For instance, in The Expendables, every eighties action hero ever is hired to do a mission on an island, so first just two of them go to the island to do recon, then they go back to America, they think about it, they fight amongst themselves, Mickey Rourke gives a speech, Jason Statham’s girlfriend is cheating on him... finally, when the movie’s almost over, they actually go on this huge mission, but since the movie’s almost over, it’s basically just one big shoot-out.
A good men on a mission movie, though, is actually about the mission. First act: we’re introduced to the team and they get their mission. Second act: They go on the mission. Third act: They finish the mission.
That leaves room for all sorts of essential elements like parachuting behind enemy lines, meeting local contacts, hiding out from the enemy, coming up with a plan to accomplish the mission, having to deal with a traitor in their midst, fighting the Predator, and so on.
Rogue One doesn’t really do this. Most of the runtime is spent with them just figuring out what their mission even is, gathering the team together, and so on. It’s not until the third act that they’re actually actively trying to steal the Death Star plans. I thought that was the point of the movie? It seems like almost all the movie is just busywork until they’re finally close enough to feature length to get on with all the plot the movie really has in it (”Guys go to steal Death Star plans, they do.”)
But no, after a prologue, first they have to break Jyn out of jail. Then they have to get her to go accept a message from her father. Then they have to go double-check with her dad just to be sure. Then they have to debate going on the mission. Then, finally, they go on the mission. By then, the movie’s basically over, so all they have to do is select a movie from the Universe’s Biggest Redbox and they’re done.
Here’s how I’d do it: Jyn is recruited by the Rebellion because her father wants to defect, but she’s the only one he trusts, so he’ll only go with her. Jyn and her team go to one (1) really cool sci-fi planet which has a variety of different environments contained in it. Think something like the planets in Interstellar, which are orbiting black holes or made of frozen methane or stuff. And, far away from the Rebels’ landing site, the Empire has placed an impenetrable fortress. Y’know, inside an active volcano or something.
The Rebels make a hazardous journey across the surface. Maybe they have to cross an inhospitable desert by riding native creatures, or kayak down whitewater rapids, that kind of thing. They find Jyn’s father, but something goes wrong--maybe they’re ambushed by the Deathtroopers. Her father dies and his data is lost, but he tells them about a secret passage into the Imperial fortress where they can access a back-up of the Death Star plans. Now, completely outnumbered and unprepared, the team has to go on this even harder, more dangerous mission into the heart of the Imperial war machine.
See how that goes? There’s just one simple throughline there--get the Death Star plans, in one form or another--and that leaves plenty of room to elaborate on it. Since they’re going on a journey, every scene would take them closer to their goal. You could have them getting discouraged, wanting to give up... could be dramatic. Or they could just go to this place, and then to this place, and then to this place, before they reach the final place and the movie’s over.
4. Men on a mission men
Tumblr media
For a war movie, there aren’t many actual soldiers in Rogue One. Jyn is some kind of petty thief slash ex-Space Taliban person... Cassian is more of an assassin... there’s the evil droid from KotOR... everyone else they kinda pick up for the ride like they’re an RPG party going to slay a dragon. Usually, in a men on a mission movie, there’s a tight-knit group of specialists who all have one particular talent. So one guy drives, another guy hacks, someone else is a sniper or an explosives expert or ‘the Sarge’...
In Rogue One, it seems like most of the specialties are either “shoots stuff” or “believes in the Force.” And they’re not really rank-and-file soldiers, either. As I said, they’re a bunch of oddball misfits who fall into Cassian and Jyn’s mission. By the time they’re fully assembled, the movie is nearly over and we’ve spent a ton of it on characters like Mad-Eye Moody who aren’t even on the team.
Maybe there could’ve just been fewer characters. There is, after all, an ace pilot character who, in the big space dogfight at the end, is too busy plugging in a wall socket to fly a ship.
Maybe they all could’ve been a team at the beginning, since they all hate the Empire, and we’re introduced to them through Jyn’s eyes as they rescue her from the Empire, and we see each of their specialties in action. Like one of them blows up the wall in her cell, another one drives them away from the Empire really well, there’s a sniper who shoots a Stormtrooper just before he can get Jyn.
And while Jyn is flying in the spaceship with them, she hears them banter with each other and argue about stuff, and we get an idea of their characterization and how they relate to each other? Maybe one of them is a big jokester and another is really serious? Or one of them is kind of a scary psycho and another boasts a lot? That kind of thing? Instead of everyone just having a different accent for a personality? I don’t know, I thought that might possibly work.
Tumblr media
Maybe one of the fanatical anti-Empire Rebels we get so much information about is actually on the team and the fact that he hates the Empire so much is relevant to the plot because it compromises the mission in some way? Instead of him really, really hating the Empire, and then just deciding he should die because he’s tired of whispering all his lines?
Also, maybe a gritty, realistic space movie shouldn’t have a blind guy who’s really good at kendo sticks. I mean, imagine if in Saving Private Ryan, Tom Hanks met a guy in a wheelchair who was really good at shooting a crossbow, so they just brought him along since they all hate Nazis. That’d be kinda weird, right?

Note
1, 4, 5, 9, 11, 13, 16, 19, 24, 27, 29, 39, 45, 49, 50 ^_^
Yaaay!
1. Your first OC ever? If you want to get technical, when I was really young I used to givepersonalities to my crayons and act out stories with them (they were just namedafter their colour). Even now, those stories kind of influence my feelingsabout certain colours. Out of OCs that I still currently have, Enre is the oldest. I made her in grade5. After crayons I graduated to other writing utensils. One day I found apencil case full of non-standard pens, markers, etc. There was one pen thatlooked normal but when I took it apart, someone had replaced the regular inktube with one from a silver gel pen. That inspired me to build the character ofEnre, who spends most of her story wearing a suit of armor, disguised as a man.
4. A character you rarely talk about? Probably all the minor characters from my old roleplay :P I kind of can’tfigure out what to do with them. I think some of the ones with the mostpotential are a family of shapeshifting aliens. The first one to show up wasHart, then later is “brother” Lumo. They’re from a planet with no sun, so theycan’t open their eyes if theres any light around (maybe in dim artificial lightthey can open them a liiiittle). Hart ran into someone who could create dynamictattoos and so had one installed that could serve as a navigation system whenhe can’t open his eyes. It’s a black hart lined with blue (rather large, on hischeek). Lumo later got one of a yellow sun lined with red. Their blood isreally acidic/poisonous. Human language is difficult for them so they both havea stutter and don’t use contractions.
5. If you could make only one of your OCs popular/known, who would it be? I was thinking about this last night and I think I would say Kye. I’m trying towork on good drafts of her novels right now, and I really like her story. (Enre is sighing with relief in the background because she’s already well knownin her own world and doesn’t want to be)
9. Would you ever be willing to give any of your OCs to someone else? Possibly, like if someone wanted to turn a roleplay into a cohesive story Imight let them use whichever characters were mine in that roleplay (we’d haveto work out conditions though).
11. Is there any OC of yours you could describe as a “sunshine”? Pentel! Unkillable optimist (I mean, until the roleplay got really dark...) He’s addicted to chocolate and it makes him really hyper and childlike. He’sgenuinely kind to all of the people he meets.
13. Do you have any troublemaker OCs? Off the top of my head the only one I can think of is Kemuri. He doesn’tnecessarily go out of his way to make trouble, but he’s a shapeshifter whosegoal is largely his own amusement so it happens anyway.Other than that, Kye causes all sorts of trouble because her truest joy is tobeat people up.
16. Which one of your OCs would be the best at biology (school subject)? Lambda wishes it was her (she graduated med school dammit!) but I think itwould actually be Heaven, since he was a child prodigy after all (and graduatedthe same med school at a much younger age)
19. Introduce an OC that means a lot to you (and explain why) Th-they all do!Since I haven’t mentioned him yet, I’ll say Carmine. He’s labeled as anintergalactic terrorist for his efforts to free his race from slavery. He wasborn into a privileged home, but because of his race had to be hidden from theoutside world. In an accident involving a rare artifact from space, hisadoptive family was killed, exposing him to the rest of the town. He was set tobe hanged, but the artifact cut the rope at the last minute. Unfortunately, italso killed all the people of the town.He spent a long time in isolation before finally leaving to begin his missionof freeing his people (he believes that’s what his adoptive father would want). He carries a lot of guilt for what happened and believes himself a murderer. Ofcourse, it doesn’t stop him from murdering people during his activities.Eventually, he meets another freedom fighter who is more of a pacifist. Theyget along about as well as you’d expect.I came up with him in middle school and he means a lot to me because of thechanges he’s gone through over the course of the roleplay. His character growthalways felt really organic. It has always been really easy for me to relate tohis feelings of isolation, being tainted, and not being able to connect withother people. He also gets chronic headaches just like me. We ended up sharinga lot of traits, even if it wasn’t intentional.
24. If you could meet one OC of yours, who would it be and why?I would probably meet Pentel, so he could give me some chocolate and also be myfriend (he would!!)
27. Any OCs that were inspired by a certain song?So many of them… let me try to remember the ones that specifically came fromsongs…A lot of Carmine’s creation was influenced by Easier to Run and Faint by LinkinPark (it was middle school!). Likewise, my character Kiri was heavilyinfluenced by Figure.09 by Linkin ParkWhen I fleshed out Jeice’s character (he’s the other protagonist in Enre’sstory) I was really influenced by Audrey, Start the Revolution by Anberlin. My character Kipper came entirely out of the song I’m With You by Avril LavigneKasane was heavily influenced by Perfect by Simple Plan (man, sounds so basic…)Joey and his sister (I forget her name… they were from a comic I stoppedworking on cause my art wasn’t there yet) were created through the song Joey byConcrete BlondeI had a character that hasn’t been named yet that came out during The Only HopeFor Me Is You by My Chemical Romance. Still don’t know much about him though.Kimoura came out of Into the Night by SantanaTwo so-far unnamed characters from Drove Me Wild by Tegan and Sara. The onlyway their dynamic really works is as Loveless fan characters but… do I reallywanna write fanfic?I felt like I had more characters who came directly from songs, but it’s lessthan I thought. I think mostly it’s that the character’s development is ofteninfluenced by songs, and most of my characters have a “theme song”.
29. Which one of your OCs would go investigate an abandoned houseIt’s kind of Kye and Riven’s job to do that – they fight the paranormal.
39. Introduce any character you wantWhile Enre is a soldier fighting on the side of the Penns, Jace is the leaderof the Coeur revolution. He’s young, practically still a kid, but he’sambitious and he thinks his side can win. His people have been enslaved foryears and they’re ready to rebel against their oppressors. Ambitious as he is,the revolution is also personal – recently married to the love of his life, howcan he build a family with her under the yoke of slavery? (that sounded more like a plot summary, but there you have it!)
45. A character you no longer use? Most of them from the old roleplay. Some of them I don’t even have intentionsof repurposing for a different story. Probably the most useless of them isCopper (typical perverted anime stock character lol). Actually, I forgotPrimer, who served as the first captain of the Five Star (he was murdered, soof course I don’t use him anymore). I miss some of the ship staff like Orca andNarwhal. They’re background people that had a very specific role.
49. Which one of your OCs would most likely enjoy memesPyry/Peter because he’s a teenage boy. Probably one of the only ones who wouldbe exposed to memes in canon! (Now I’ve got the bad idea of making a tumblrblog in character as him…)Shinto would probably get a kick out of memes if she ever saw them. I think she’dreally like gun. She and Karaoke would have a great time rick-rolling theirentire squad.Chance would probably spread a lot of classic art/history memes. He’d show themto Enre and she’d be like “I’m illiterate.”
50. Give me the good ol’ OC talk here. Talk about anything you wantI want to talk about how Carmine is bi!!!! Like, I think about this a lot but it means nothing to anyone but me, haha. Carminetravels with a sort of partner-in-crime named Sky who is a common gay. Alsototally in love with Carmine, but Carmine is the most oblivious unobservant assin the universe. In the roleplay, it’s painfully obvious to everyone else thatCarmine is in love with Taki (the captain of another ship) but that he won’tget together with her. His emotions are kind of vulnerable so he turns to theonly other person he can trust, Sky, and they eventually get together. Ofcourse, Sky KNOWS who Carmine truly has feelings for, and bets him to ask Takiout (Carmine can not turn down a bet). This, as you’d expect, backfires as Takiis offended he asked her out on a dare. But he is forced to confront his truefeelings and eventually does confess to her (they later get married). Sky isboth sad and happy at the same time.Technically if you want to use the split attraction model, Carmine isbiromantic and homosexual but whatever. I don’t give a lot of thought intodefining a specific sexual orientation for most of my characters but the twothat I know are most definitely bi are Carmine and Cruz.
This ended up really long of course, but Iwanted to say thanks for asking and giving me a chance to ramble on and on!

4-star linebacker Willie Gay out of Starkville HS discussed Ole Miss with Rivals.com while at the Army All-American game.
Ole Miss needs linebackers, desperately. The Rebels picked up a commitment from 4-star LB Breon Dixon on New Years Day, but Ole Miss looks to add another linebacker.
Currently, Ole Miss has Dixon and 3-star LB Josh Clarke committed.
