"In a very real sense, you cannot tell anybody anything that he doesn't already know. In other words, you can work only with and upon the material of his experience. Your writing, your procession and arrangement of words—and above all they must be words meaningful to him—must incite him to scrabble about in his memory for scraps from his experience, and newly arrange them into a pattern as nearly as possible like the one in your mind. If his experience is in no respect like yours, you have no material to work upon and can tell him nothing."

Hi!
I would like to read more sapphic/wlw books and I'd appreciate some recs since I have... Specific taste... When it comes to my romance novels.
I like fantasy/historical/sci-fi best, generally don't enjoy slice of life content. I also prefer couples who just, you know, adore each other (think Morticia and Gomez, Hualian and the likes)
Thanks in advance <3

Ministry Aesthetics — 3: The Lower Chambers Past the central stairwell lays a maze of hallways, lit with the crackling whispers of enchanted flames. Ancient doorways feed to storage closets and cleanrooms and countless halls of veneration, where artifacts and ritual items are housed. At the lowest basin sits a reservoir of unblessed waters, reserved only for rites of purification; per tradition, each Papa-elect must be cleansed here before Ascending.

Most arabul és kínaiul tanul. Rengeteget utazik, olcsó repülőjegyekkel, igénytelen szállásokon, nagyon boldogan bejárja a világot. A három gyereke mindenfelé élnek a világban, hasonló színes múlttal. Bárhol elboldogul, olyan félelem és görcs nélkül él a világban, ami lenyűgöző. Már vagy 25 éve él Magyarországon, azóta nem dolgozik, az angliai meg olaszországi ingatlanok kiadásából éldegélnek. Egyedül nevelte a gyerekeit.

starter status: closed for @bloodwiine (alisa x utp) location: masquerade
alisa didn't know how long she had been there - a hour or two maybe - but she had began to grow a bit restless already. she was hungry but she was being on her best behaviour given the event and she wasn't going to be the reason behind why it might be ruined. gavitating towards the outskirts of the room, lis picked up a glass of wine from a moving by tray, uncaring if it was intended for someone else. "i had hope that the wine would at least be good..."

Les Mis meets Black Sails + Robin Hood in Sailing by Orion’s Star (The Constellation Trilogy, #1), out TODAY!
In the 18th century West Indies, stories hold the ultimate power. Sailors spin yarns about pirates. Newspapers tell tales full of half-truths. Myths spread like whispered wildfire.
East India Company sailor Nicholas Jerome has no patience for pirates, determined to leave his father's thieving past behind. After a convict and an enslaved woman escape his grasp with the aid of an aristocrat's mysterious wife, he faces one last chance to save his career. Finding an unexpected home with a new crew, he gains a chosen younger brother in René Delacroix, the son of his wealthy captain and the grandson of Jamaica's cruel governor.
But there's a storm brewing in the Delacroix household. For René and his best friend Frantz, the Robin Hood tales about legendary pirate Ajani Danso and his famed female quartermaster are a lifeline amidst the governor's abuse. Danso robs greedy merchants, frees slaves, and shelters queer sailors, inspiring the downtrodden across the New World.
When death and betrayal shatter the lives they knew, René and Jerome each face a choice: obey, or rebel.
A war for history's favor begins, and as an uprising against colonialism erupts on the ocean, everyone must choose a story to believe in.
You can order here (paperback or e-book from several retailers) or here (for readers outside the US who want to order a paperback from a non-Amazon retailer).

Sailing by Orion’s Star Cover Reveal!
I am so EXTREMELY excited to reveal the cover for Sailing by Orion’s Star! This gorgeous artwork was done by the wonderful Abby Gavit, whose work you can check out here. @prosodi
I’ve spent a long time thinking about what this cover would look like, and I honestly could not be more pleased with this. Truly, it is a dream cover. I want to give a special shout out to the Les Mis fandom, who have been with me on this project since its very early days, when I didn’t know what it would be. <3
Sailing by Orion’s Star will release on April 26th!

Also, check out the full wrap cover (and the blurb!) for the print edition. Don’t miss the skull in the clouds!

Do you like Les Mis, Black Sails, Robin Hood tales, queer pirates, found families and epics? Paperback pre-orders for Sailing by Orion’s Star (The Constellation Trilogy, #1) are live! Release is set for 4/26.
Amazon
Barnes & Noble
Book Depository (Sometimes if you’re using Chrome the cover doesn’t pop up, so if you don’t see it, it is the right listing and you can still pre-order! The cover has popped up on all other browsers)
Bookshop (US friends, if you haven’t used this website before, you can choose a digital “storefront” for participating indie bookstores, and they will profit off the sale. If you’re near the DC area, I tend to choose Kramer’s or East City Books. And hey, if enough folks buy from particular indies, maybe they’ll consider stocking it in store!)
International friends: you should be able to buy paperbacks from Amazon if it’s available in your country, and Book Depository (above) ships to something like 160 countries (The UK, pretty much all of Europe, some parts of Asia and South America, etc.)
Interested in e-books? I have those too! You can get it on Kindle, Kobo, Nook, and others. (Kobo is easy for international folks!)
Add the book on Goodreads!

The 2012 Les Mis movie surely has its issues, but god, that transition from Stars to Look Down (Paris) is just *chef’s kiss*

My #1 post of 2022
Okay so here’s the thing. If I see one more “who cares about historical accuracy in a historical piece of media” I am truly going to lose my entire mind. I’m not asking for TOTAL accuracy down to the detail (I don’t strive for that, and things should connect with a modern reader) but I AM asking that books and shows and movies ENGAGE WITH THE PERIOD THEY’RE SUPPOSEDLY SET IN. The new Persuasion is just the newest (and one of the most egregious) instances of this, but I’ve seen this sentiment a lot, recently. If you don’t care about historical stuff, then why create or engage with historical media? The goal should not be to “modernize” historical fiction, but to create and engage with more diverse historical media. Different settings and periods! More stories about queer and BIPOC folks! Historical fiction has so so much to offer without stripping it of all historical context. I’m tired.

Dream Child by muchadoloo ( @muchadoloo ) for AsunaChinaDoll
It is an old Mandalorian proverb that a child is born in one's dreams.
For over twenty years, Din has dreamed of fire and smoke, bloodshed, and bloodcurdling screams. They say it’s a bad omen. They say he's fated to be childless. They say he has no dream child.
What he does have, however, is a persistent green creature who sneaks into his ship, eats all his food, and refuses to leave him alone.
(In which, all Mandalorians receive recurring dreams of their intended foundlings and Din just so happens to be the exception to that rule). Completed, 100k words.
*** ** * ** ***
Chapter 2:
Din makes the choice between gritted teeth and swallowed pride. “Give me the ball.”
“I’m not finished—”
“I answered your questions.”
“Yet, I remain dissatisfied.”
Red flashes before Din’s eyes. “What do you want from me?”
“Everything,” Gavit growls.
A chill cuts through Din, so abrupt and startling that his heart almost stops. Gavit is many things, but cold he is not. His anger is like the heat waves on Nevarro — suffocating, consuming, and demanding to be felt. But this… This is icier. Different.
“On second thought…” Gavit steps back, surveying the ball and the waste chute behind him. Din’s stomach drops. “I don’t think you need this trinket.”
“No.” The word catches in Din’s throat.
“What was that?” Gavit asks, relishing in the power shift. Din grits his teeth, refusing to acknowledge it, but the shift’s already begun. “You want it back? Then, confess.”
Din can feel himself shaking. He can’t just attack him, they both know that. Not without an outright provocation. He forfeited his chance before.
“Confess!”
“I told you. I haven’t—” Din’s voice cracks. He struggles to find the words, different words, but there aren’t any. “I haven’t…done anything.”
“Well…” Gavit says. “You leave me no choice then.”
Din chokes. “No—”
He hurls the ball into the waste chute. It clinks against the rock as it falls, sending echoes ringing through the room. Din can barely hear himself breathing.
It’s…gone.
Gavit approaches, leaning in. “You know why your dreams are fucked, Djarin?” He whispers so no one but Din can hear. “It’s because you’re an ori'vhekad.”
Din jerks, throat closing up. He doesn’t hear Gavit back away. Doesn’t register him addressing the watching crowd. Doesn’t hear anything beyond that slur, ringing dully in his ears like the ball in the chute.
Ori'vhekad.
A word easily translated in Basic to mean: desert. But Mando’a isn’t like Standard; it thrives off of legend, imagery, and story. Their homeworld was decimated, reduced to a wasteland. Incapable of sustaining life. The slur speaks to that history; it speaks of one who depletes life and is as desolate and barren as the desert. One in whom no life exists.
Gold armor turns to him and the white noise drops out. Din returns to himself, numb.
[...]
There’s a sense of finality and satisfaction in the air. Of jobs well done.
It’s all quite normal, ordinary, almost boring. Yet, Din feels a strange stab of envy as he stands apart from the activity. He could never fit in here — not with the way it is now. The feeling brings with it an old taunt.
You don’t belong here.
You’re weak.
A coward.
Din thins his lips together, trying to stop the swell of emotion from crashing over him, but it is already clawing its way out of his throat. Sorrow always shows up for him like a game of hide-and-seek. It goes in search of his voice first (because that’s the first thing he hides), pushing out an inhuman sound (something brittle, strained, and taunt like a cord finally snapping). He won’t let it. He can’t.
Din digs his fingers into his palm, trying to find his way back to solid ground, but he’s so tired. His rifle is broken and he smells terrible and he’s standing on sinking...
Sand.
Desert.
Ori’vhekad.
A choked sound catches in his throat and Din bites his tongue, forcing it back down.
Not here, he pleads. Not now.
Chapter 5:
When Din was young, time was his closest ally. There was so much of it then. He was only twenty-three; dreams could change, predictions could be false and, more importantly, people could be proven wrong.
He had time.
It only took getting older for him to finally learn the truth — that time is not a friend, but a thief that steals from you every chance it gets. Give it time, many in the Covert said when he begged for the dream to change. Give it time, and Din did. He gave it time, and time only stole years off his life.
He won’t waste another moment entertaining notions of “what could have been” and “what should have been” when what is stands in front of him, asking him to be a man about it. If there’s anything life has taught him, it’s that everything creeps steadily towards death and decay (that, is the “gift” of time). People are born only to die, and life is a gift that everyone has to return eventually.
He knows that.
At least, he knew that once.
It was foolish of him to forget something so elementary.

[ad_1] GG News Bureau Maharashtra, 23rd November. The results for the Maharashtra Assembly elections, held on November 20, were declared on Saturday, marking the conclusion of a fierce electoral battle between the ruling BJP-led Mahayuti coalition and the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) alliance. As of now, counting is still underway for all 288 constituencies, but early trends show the Mahayuti coalition pulling ahead. Both alliances had sealed their seat-sharing pacts ahead of the elections, with the BJP contesting 148 constituencies, Eknath Shinde’s Shiv Sena fielding candidates in 80 seats, and Ajit Pawar’s NCP contesting 53 seats. Smaller parties contested seven seats. On the other side, the MVA alliance had Congress contesting 103 seats, Uddhav Thackeray’s Shiv Sena in 89, and Sharad Pawar’s NCP in 87 constituencies, with minor allies fielding candidates in six seats. Early Results from Key Constituencies As the counting progresses, here are some of the early winners: Anushakti Nagar – Fahad Ahmad (NCP) Ghatkopar East – Parag Shah (BJP) Wadala – Kalidas Niklanth Kolambkar (BJP) Satara – Shivendraraje Abhaysinhraje Bhonsle (BJP) Palghar – Gavit Rajendra Dhedya (Shiv Sena) Bhiwandi Rural – Santaram Tukaram More (Shiv Sena) Niphad – Bankar Diliprao Shankarrao (NCP) Shrivardhan – Aditi Sunil Tatkare (NCP) Madha – Abhijeet Dhananjay Patil (NCP-SP) Voter Turnout and Key Stakes The elections saw an estimated 65% voter turnout, marking the electoral contest as a key event amid the fractured Shiv Sena and NCP factions following their internal splits. This election was also viewed as a test of political strength for the BJP, which had seen a significant consolidation of power after its alliance with the Shinde-led Shiv Sena. As the BJP coalition edged ahead in the early counting stages, Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis took to social media to express gratitude, sharing the slogan “Ek Hai Toh Safe Hai, Modi Hai Toh Mumkin Hai” to celebrate their growing momentum. The slogan, emphasizing unity and strong leadership, resonated deeply with their supporters. With the BJP showing a promising performance, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to arrive at the BJP headquarters at 6:30 pm to address party workers and supporters. The final results will provide a clearer picture of Maharashtra’s political future and whether the BJP-led Mahayuti can retain its dominance or if the MVA can stage a comeback in the remaining constituencies.   The post Maharashtra Election Results Declared: BJP-Led Mahayuti Takes Early Lead, MVA Trails appeared first on Global Governance News- Asia's First Bilingual News portal for Global News and Updates.
