I’ve been reading ur extra info u have 4 handplates n I’ve been curious about this for a bit !!!! now that they’re on the surface , have they ever heard a human speak anything other than English? What r their reactions to other languages n seeing the fonts for those n possibly not being able to understand them ? (If they have any reactions to begin with!!)
They can only speak English (or I guess, if you translated them into another language, that language) but they can still see non-Roman characters! The Gaster ghost actually has a special reaction if another ghost responds to him with non-Roman characters.
I like thinking skeletons are very fascinated by fonts they don't see very often. Beautiful and unique! A skeleton likes a nice font. |D A whole world of Japanese fonts to explore if they ran into a group of skeletons in Japan... conversely if Gaster was translated into Japanese he would also be fascinated by Roman letters, haha, although less so since it's more common to see Roman letters in Japan than vice versa. Not necessarily every font with those letters though!
I think right now Gaster only notices Japanese characters since that's what I was testing it with, but I should add Korean and Russian characters as well at some point. A thing to remember is that it's VERY rare for a non-English speaking ghost at this point to be able to speak to other ghosts, you have to do a whole special set-up thing for it. I actually edited the other ghost in the gif here so she'd respond to Gaster properly so I could show this off, haha. I don't know if anyone would see this dialogue naturally, it's really more of an Easter egg. But it is something I've thought about!
(I think a very silly font, like the Mr. Saturn font from Earthbound, would be hard for a skeleton to read... same if it's the Japanese Mr. Saturn font, haha. But still legible!)
