One of the interesting things about Endeavour series 6 and 7 is that neither is quite about what you think it is at first.
Series 7 is about a love story - but it’s not the lurid romance (with added equilateral love triangle of disaster-biness) that Morse finds himself in that’s the true love story, it’s the platonic love between him and Thursday.
Series 6, on the other hand, has both an emotional/personal ongoing plot, and a, well, plot-plot.
The emotional/personal plot is the surface one. The various things going on with Morse, Thursday, Bright, Box, Joan, Win. Everyone grieving, hurt, struggling.
But the plot-plot? That’s a battle between two genius puppet-masters, both sergeants, both hiding in plain sight, manipulating everything around them. One working for good, one for evil.
Jago sneered at Morse in that final confrontation that Morse couldn't see him for Box. But Jago never even got to find out that he himself couldn't see Strange for Morse.
It was secretly Jago vs. Strange the whole season, and we only find out at the end, when Strange wins. And when he takes down Fancy’s picture, that’s his victory. He puts all his pieces in place to get Morse back where he should be, avenge Fancy, bring down a crime organisation that’s preying on young addicts and that involves corruption in very high places, help Thursday redeem himself and Morse get his confidence back, and generally bring the gang back together. And he does it. He can’t do it alone and doesn’t try, but he’s the guiding hand behind all of it, giving the right prodding and pulling the right strings to then be able to let his colleagues do the rest.
Pratchett says of sergeants (military and “watch” - and of course we learn in the previous series that Thursday was also a sergeant, in WW2...):
“It is a very useful rank for the right man. The optimum balance of power and responsibility.” And of course that quote from Night Watch is one that’s used about a sergeant who is also, in a different time, the commander of the watch. Russell Lewis is a massive Pratchett fan. So. :-)

Bracket F Round 1
Poll 8
Hope & Dark the prince (@infectois) vs. Avi (@theearlymorningstar)
335. Hope & Dark the prince (@infectois)
Hope uses He/Him and Dark uses They/Them
Hope and Dark the Prince are the two main characters of my future webcomic, Wish Upon
Seemingly appearing out of the aether, Hope encounters Dark while they're out traveling and tells them they want to be a wishing star. The monochrome world they live in is under a starless sky, and Hope wishes to provide a wish to the world. Though the task seems to be impossible, Dark reluctantly accompanies him on his journey.
Hope is a bouncy bright little ball, soft and light, he's a bit naive to the new world around him and wants to befriend everyone. His boundless optimism proves to aid others on his perilous journey. Dark the Prince, meanwhile, is quiet and even cold. They're not exactly friendly, and know the way of the sword. They're blunt and harsh, though have their own code of honour that they uphold. The two unlikely friends bond during the journey.
I have a good amount of art of them on both of their toyhouses! I made both designs on a whim, and plan on making a webcomic about them some day!
But boiling down their essentials, they're extremely gender creatures who are opposites

336. Avi (@theearlymorningstar)
She/her
she's the leader of an illegal crime magical girl organisation. she is like if the color pink was a person. she looks cute but would kick your ass. her bestie is a cringe fail duke who is wanted for tax evasion and just joined her gang.

DEMO | PATREON | KO-FI
You receive a note from The Order, the cryptic organisation that has control over the gangs in London. Life has suddenly gotten more interesting, especially when The Order begins to blackmail you with your own demons…
You’re a member of one of the most powerful gangs in the city.
Action. Power struggle. Betrayal. Loyalty. Love. The gang life has it all. It’s practically all you and your older brother have ever known — not that you’ve seen him in a while.
It’s been just under a year since your brother left the city, went on the run to avoid punishment for a crime he says he didn’t commit — the murder of the infamous Zakai McVay. Naturally, many things about this mystery are still under wraps. You can find out what really happened, but it’s impossible to do it alone.
Bring in a bunch of misfits, and maybe you can crack a few closed cases and reveal a few secrets that are under lock and key. You and your best friend join forces with three others, allies you’d never see yourself working with, and realise that together you may achieve everything you’ve ever wanted.
Maybe you’ll even get out of this life.
All of you have mysteries to solve and fights to win.
A fight against society. A fight against the city. And most importantly, a fight against yourself.
So much to lose yet so much to gain.
Are you ready for the biggest challenge of your life?
This is rated 17+ for depictions of violence, crime, kidnapping, strong language and eventual (optional!) non-graphic nsfw scenes.
Play as a male, female or non-binary; straight, gay, lesbian, bisexual, pansexual, graysexual, demisexual, asexual, gang member w/ the choice of your own pronouns.
Play as a person of colour (this choice can have an effect on the story).
Choose the name of your gang.
Romance any of the five romantic options; all gender-selectable; male, female and non-binary. The ROs are: the best friend, the rival, the initiate, the crown and the betrayer.
Choose your gang member’s speciality (tech genius, combat, stealth, deception, charmer or the tactician). Use this skill set to your advantage… just don’t let your weaknesses ruin the operation(s).
Choose your gang member’s dark past…
Have the opportunity to leave the gang life behind.
Or become your gang’s leader.
Embark on a crazy adventure with friends, enemies and the powerful and discover the truths everyone’s so desperate to keep hidden.
And if there’s one thing to keep in mind, don’t expect this run in to be easy… we’ve all got secrets we’d rather keep buried.
THE BEST FRIEND
You don’t get anywhere in this game without trust…
Shiloh Quince. In this life, ride or die isn’t just a phrase, it’s reality. Good thing you have Shiloh. They’re a little rough around the edges, metaphorically and literally, their tattoos prove it. They’re the fierce protector, the one that’s always with you no matter whether you’ve argued - the two of you can take this found-dynasty to the very top. With them by your side, you know anything is possible. But maybe having them by your side as more than a friend is a little more fitting.
THE RIVAL
A gang without rivals? Unheard of.
Your biggest rival of all. Ryah/Rian/Royce Zayed. The feud between your gangs stretches back decades for various reasons. It’s you vs them now and everyone knows it. The hatred is strong and it’s only grown over the years. Their arrogance, their cockiness, their sharp tongue, witty remarks, and that distinctive scar you gave them - you make their blood boil. The two of you know the streets like the back of your hand, but maybe the two of you could put this rivalry aside… enough to realise that surviving for one another is a path you both want to follow.
THE INITIATE
Recruitment and staying ahead of the rest is essential.
Lourdes/Lorenz/Lior Corrales. They’re the new arrival, the one with promise, an advanced skill set, excitement… and an ego. They’ve left their struggling lifestyle behind and now they’re ready for a new challenge, and they’ll let you know it, especially now they’re your next door neighbour. But beneath the beaming grins, brilliant humour and fiery personality — they’re afraid, not of this life, but of something else. But could you be the one to break down their guard? Make them see that their new life is worthwhile? Fight off your demons with one another, side by side as partners and lovers.
THE CROWN
Being friends with powerful people always gets you a leg up.
Chanel/Cree/Creighton DeLuca. If you’re getting technical, then they’re part of The Order, part of the rich, powerful and jealous-filled life that comes with it too. But if you’re asking C themselves, they want no part of it. They’re the humble, kind, ‘behind-the-scenes’ person who can get you out of a rut - but despite their high life, they have their own dreams and ambitions. Want nothing to do with their step-siblings that are battling it out for the crown, the same step-siblings that get the attention C always misses out on. C has a sharp mind, they’re the best person to have in your corner, but they have insecurities to battle, trust to gain… someone to tell them that it’ll all be okay. Someone to say, ‘I see you.”
THE BETRAYER
Just like that, we’re strangers again. Strangers with memories…
Teja/Tré/Tate Heroux. Ah, you never thought you’d have to hear that name again. There was a time when there was trust, a time when there was loyalty… all before they threw it away and left your gang to join another. Now they’re a lone wolf trying to survive. This world isn’t easy and they definitely have regrets with how they went about their business. And maybe you’re part of the reason why they left in the first place… Are you willing to forgive? Willing to let them explain why they did what they did? Willing to let your heart fall and trust them one more time?
reblogs are much appreciated <3

MANNER OF D*ATH -EXPOSURES VS COVERS (An analysis on Tan and That and their partners)
Well hello there, I have just been rewatching episodes of MOD episode 4 and 5 repeatedly, and I have no words to say. The more the episodes go on, the more I get invested in this odd suspicious, and weird, maybe murderous found family with Bun, and Tan and their precious plant babies but also their little ones who look up to and who they have to take under their wings. Yeah I know it's not yet apparent, but Tan is definitely a protector figure to That and Sorawit is also probably going to find a role model following Bun. We love this weird new group, even though That was the one who had been threatening Bun since episode 2 haha, and okay Tan may have also been the one to drug Bun and make him scared enough to come to live with him just to keep an eye on him, or that, That first speaks to Sorawit after beating him up awfully to protect his friend's pride, you know stuff romantic couples do. And it's just so adorable yet worrying that, That and Sorawit's blooming relationship is slowly mirroring a baby version of Tan and Bun's fast pace and growing passionate one. It's nice to see the effect both Bun and Sorawit have automatically on Tan and That despite them both being forced in an environment where feelings equal weakness because of the job they do. This is an analysis of how TanBun mirror ThatSorn and what that says about each of the character's dynamic and how this leads us right to the heart of our case and plot.
On Exposures and Covers
Introduction to Tan
When we first see Tan we know he's important, one obviously because he's our romantic interest, and Bun can't keep his eyes off him immediately they meet. But apart from that, we can see he's already a bit shady, he walks around the club, face cold, looking around in an overprotective manner, and it's odd already, and we find out later on this is his club the Mist. Later we also see him apart from the smiles, and the faux girlfriend beat up Pued in retaliation to dragging his 'ex' which we have now found out, the way he beats up Pued, especially for someone who he doesn't even have feelings for like that is odd. There's this thing about Tan, where he automatically switches depending on who he is with. I've already mentioned about the masks he holds and has with people here. Still, it's even more than that, he's seductive sometimes, cold the next, aggressive at others, conniving at best, and he has this weird expressionless face whenever we see him at these moments, apart from with Bun where a smile lights up sometimes but even still you don't know if that's a cover or mask, or him actually enjoying and uncontrollably becoming joyful around Bun.
What we see with Tan is links to aggression, and corruption and violence, shocking, right? He's already connected to Dam, the person who is very protective of his group of boys including That. Dam is also related to brutality and aggression and corruption: one he's a henchman of one of the higher-ups, (Pued's father), he's merciless when it comes to hurting his people, and everyone is scared of messing with him.
We see parts of Dam in Tan as we keep watching the show, especially with others, with Pued's father he shows the cold and protective henchman he is, with That he acts like his leader, and older brother (That works for Dam who he calls brother, Sorawit also says That is Dam's brother, seems like the group sees each other as a family) and he's the one who orders That to keep an eye on Bun and send him threats by being aggressive and sometimes violent to scare him. Other links shown; he holds a gun which he actively in episode 5 keeps hidden away from Bun, meaning it's something important not just a protection thing. Other signs of corruption that may not yet be fully proven are that he's not just a teacher at the school but a shareholder, he's wealthy enough, owns a bar and leads a bunch of kids who are just as rough and aggressive. And so that's important when we get to the bottom of this.
The reason for his violence, aggression and actions as Dam so far has stemmed from one thing and one thing only; protection. He's used to being the protector of his group of boys, protector of Pued and his dad (who I'm still not sure if it's his dad and half brother but will make sense as well), the protector of Jane and now also the protector of Bun. As suspicious as he is, I don't think Tan is lying to Bun when he says he wants to protect him and keep an eye on him, it's real, and he means it. With everything he's done so far, doing all he has been doing secretly for the protection of Bun will make sense, he may know what happened to Jane partially. He's being threatening, suspicious and hiding secrets to getting Bun next to him so he can prevent him from getting hurt by the suspect, and hurting the mafia organisation he works for that he probably sees as a family or is part of as family. So Tan isn't a cruel villain who's sedating, ra*ing and exterminating women, it's still very worrying he is part of the in the know of who it could be.
From episode 5 however it seems he doesn't know about it fully though, he seems to not understand if there is a drugring or s*xring with the girls, he's shocked Jane is involved in it and has sent That to try and find more details. He wasn't lying to Bun that he didn't know all the details. As mentioned before, Jane also told him she'll inform him later of her secrets and involvements, so he really doesn't know the full fact. But what does he know? Why is he quick to shut out Pat who has more information to tell about Jane and Pued's awful pimping relationship before we can learn more, why is he so desperate for this criminal not to get caught?
I think you guessed it; it'll put his family in a bad light, whatever that is. He's just doing his protection role, whoever is going to be damaged by the reveal is someone connected to him maybe the criminal is a family member, or perhaps because the mafia organisation is a version of a family, he's part of that too. He knows that Jane was being pimped to other men by Pued, so what does this mean? Why doesn't he have a clue about the medications, and does this mean that there's something else at play as well as the crime?
Either way, although he's not the suspect, Tan is still worrying, he still holds secrets, and he still has covers. He's still desperate to prevent Bun from reaching the truth which means that what he's doing with Bun, all the looking like he's trying to solve the case, comes with an outcome, he's still out to deceive him and prevent him from finding out the truth. That means no matter what; he's still on our suspect list, and he's still a barrier to the truth that can't be trusted no matter how much he smiles lovingly at Bun, or flirts seductively or means what he says when he tells him he wants to protect him. Our romance is worth it, but at the same time, we're treading dangerous paths when it comes to Tan. Until we unveil what he knows about Jane and why he's hiding, he's still someone worth distrusting for now.
Introduction to That
Which brings me to someone who definitely shadows Tan. A character who mirrors him and I think we can also parallel Tan with him to know more motivations and that is That. That, our first introduction to him is with Sorawit as well except unlike Bun and Tan's romantic lust, at first sight, haha, it was more upsetting. That starts off coming to Sorawit and well beating him up. So the first introduction we have of That is without a cover like Tan, we know he's part of a violent gang, that prevents people from messing around with them. The reason why he comes to beat up Sorawit is that one of the group told him he's dating Nam and that Sorawit was trying to steal his girl. Ahh, that makes more sense, because already you start to see how That is mirroring Tan as Dam, he's aggressive and intense because of the protection of his group. Once he realises the truth, he's shocked, and he proceeds to be angry at his friend and move on. The way we see he's connected with corruption is because no one is allowed to retaliate to his group, one because of Dam who protects them and two because his group is part of a gang that is supported and known by everyone in the village. He gets away with his acts of violence because people are afraid of them. As Sorawit points out, they're not to be messed with. So That just like Tan acts on protection, and he does it the same way, with fighting, threats and warnings.
The second time we see That we don't know it's him, but it is. He's the one who's been sending the threats to Bun once he starts telling everyone about Jane's manner of loss, he's the person who goes into Bun's house and threatens him under Tan's orders to stay away from the investigation. We see him working under Tan as Dam, and again we see what he does is connected to brutality, aggression and corruption. But it's important to notice how he mirrors Tan here, they're both working for other people to do something to hide the case, they're both using threats and secret covers and tactics to hide the truth about Jane's loss, and to prevent Bun from doing anything else. They're puppets of whatever organisation they're working for, forced to do what they do, and forced to protect their group as a whole.
That is like Tan, in which he has other higher-ups telling him what to do, whilst providing protection and benefits to him. That has evident power over his crew, just like Tan has the power of their group. Tan has a job where he oversees the bar, he's a shareholder. He has a powerful position to oversee his group and also he has an undercover assignment as a teacher to hide his cover as Dam. That has a reputation preventing people from messing around with him, probably money and a group to be part of when he works for Dam and the organisation. But whatever they do for the organisation has to be kept in secret, so they both have covers to prevent being seen.
The next time we see That is different, he's with Sorowit again at this point. He falls and hurts himself, and Sorowit gets to see another side of him, they become closer, and we start to see a different version to That, the one that smiles, flusters or is more loyal and open just as Tan. This is also another important thing, although we've seen him do suspicious and morally wrong acts, he's still just a boy, who is working under orders, he's also someone who is trying to help to solve the case and help Sorowit with his issues. Who does that sound like when it comes to Bun? Tan.
So we see these two connected to brutality, aggression, manipulation, deceit and corruption. We see them as puppets who work under the organisation and has to prevent the suspect from being found out despite how they feel about it. You can tell both don't know enough details, they're not the criminals, and the only reason they become severe or aggressive is because of protection; of who they care about, of who they work for, and of their 'family' and reputation. Thus they're not allowed to showcase emotions easily, they have to have a stern face on, they have to be cold and scary, so people don't cross them or don't take them seriously. They have to have masks and covers so that their identity and organisation isn't uncovered.
Well like That he's being forced to work under the organisation, if Tan is the leader of That's group, then he has his own person who orders him around to do things. Just like That; probably from a young age and he probably has to do it because it's family, perhaps after his mum died and he was forced to go stay with his father and half brother.
But in comes, Sorowit and Bun and they change everything.
Exposures and Reveals
It's funny that when these two meet their partner, they become soft as jelly and without meaning to they start to break down their covers and masks. It's still a bit questionable if that's what they're doing as with Tan you still don't know if you can trust that his feelings are real and he's changed his aims with Bun. But it's been an instant thing for both couples once alone, their walls start to break, they start to realise their closeness, and they start to want to spend the rest of their time with each other. It's automatic, and it's angsty but romantic. Here's how they become exposed whenever they're around their partner:
Vulnerability vs Weakness
Tan's walls already became shaken once Bun invaded his space from first sight and kissed him. It's like he was shocked but he knew he liked it. He became more flirty and seductive towards Bun, enjoying teasing and seeing his weakness. Although it becomes a cover to him to let Bun come stay with him, Tan becomes more vulnerable with Bun as time goes on, he starts to rely on his cooking, he begins to slowly open up about his family and his relationship with Jane. He starts to show a change in plans when it comes to his original goals.
Tan starts to open up about his family, I think this is the first time we truly see him vulnerable, he's an open case when he discusses how much he loved his mum until she died, he unveils about other family secrets such as his dad's coldness and his half brother. He doesn't seem close to. That's him becoming vulnerable, he's becoming open to Bun, and his trust is starting to become stronger and change for Bun. It's starting to become natural to see him this way.
With That, his vulnerability is shown once he and Sorawit are alone. Sorawit is able to hear him scream from his pain, and also see him fall. It's already a metaphor that he gets to see him fall and wounded, it's probably something others haven't seen of him, he's always acting cold, aggressive and threatening, that's how he seems when we first see him, he has a fearsome reputation. Still, Sorawit gets to hear him in pain and act like a baby. It makes him laugh because he wasn't expecting him to scream. Automatically That's cover is exposed to Sorawit and their relationship as you see changes, before they know it they're sticking near each other, and talking and helping each other with their issues.
In a way without meaning to both Tan and That are automatically vulnerable and weak/losing control of their coldness and covers because of Bun and Sorawit, for Tan once Bun kisses him he starts to feel something for someone. He knows and accepts it despite the fact he has to lie and hide to protect others, for That once Sorawit and him see each other alone, he gets exposed to how weak he could be when he's in pain, something he and Tan probably have never been allowed to show to others. Their walls are already broken before they know it, when they first meet their partner alone.
This is the same for Sorawit and Bun. Bun is lawful and follows the rules, he's innocent and naive and doesn't like showing a lot of emotions. But when Tan shows up, no matter how much he feels he might be in danger or close to harm, he automatically wants to be with Tan and flirts with Tan as well. Although he's worried and scared, he changes his focus of Tan being a murder suspect to let him stay with him on the bed, to go home with him every day, to kiss him whilst drunk and to cook for him and show him care. That's how Tan makes him vulnerable, although he's meant to have a strong moral hold and belief in justice (the reason he also says he came to the town at first was to avoid corruption and issues with the law). Still, despite this strong sense of justice; when it comes to Tan it means nothing, it's like he forgets that Tan could also be part of the people messing with the law or part of the corruption. You can see how scared he is each time he thinks Tan is suspicious, and yet he still flirts and chooses to stay with him despite the signs. It's him letting himself be vulnerable with Tan.
Sorawit is the same, at first he gets poorly beaten by That, and he knows he probably should stay away from That as he and group are not to be messed with, but he doesn't. Once he hears him scream, he finds him funny, and he becomes close to him without knowing. We see it in episode 5, he automatically (just like Bun) initiates closeness, he's the one who does the random taking care of That's wounds, he's the one who begins asking for the number, and he's the one who shows closeness and affection for That because of his friendly personality.
He likes hanging out with That, and he enjoys his time with him despite how they first interacted. He works with That to find Nam, and he asks That to stay with him because he's scared of ghosts. Whilst Tan and That are exposed automatically by Bun and Sorawit despite their covers, Sorawit and Bun let themselves be vulnerable despite their fears to be with Tan and That.
Trust and Naturalness
That's why it's so interesting how automatic it is for them because their vulnerability is based on this innate trust and naturalness they have with each other. Despite the barriers with their morality, mindsets or suspicious behaviours, despite the covers and sneakiness and aggression, there's this trust that they won't hurt each other. Instead, there's a need to protect and care for each other to make themselves feel right. We see trust being implemented with these two duos, there's communication, conversation, and connection that is natural for them, there's the flirty chemistry, and the friendship built between them. A sort of intimacy formed despite the fears, mostly because Tan and Bun live with each other, they very closely interact and make sure that they know they're attracted to the other. With Sorawit and That, it's natural for Sorawit to seek help and advice from That about what bothers him. That is also naturally able to let himself be exposed (clothes being off and all) with Sorawit, and he accepts his initiations of friendship as well. It's cute, it's an excellent foundation for a relationship to be built.
Warmth and comfort
But what's even more natural for these couples is their warmth and comfort to each other. Immediately Bun and Tan are living together, Tan feels nurtured and taken care of by Bun, he cooks well, he is a companion to stay with, and he's someone to discuss with and work with. Bun has also shown a healing effect as well; he's able to make Tan smile, and joke around despite his hardcover as Dam, he's able to make Tan soft and also warm (giving each other gifts of plants and finally deciding to take care of it together), able to also show attention by taking care of his wounds when he's hurt. They look forward to being with each other when stressed and just end up always waiting for each other at the end of the day. And it's the same for That, apart from their first interaction, Sorowit also shows care for That, by taking him to the hospital, treating his wounds and making him smile as well when he teases him. Both these two couples like each other's presence and are more themselves with each other.
Loyalty and Protection
So whilst Bun and Sorowit show healing and warmth and comfort to Tan and That, they do what they do best for them, protection and loyalty. It's what we connect them with, Tan decides to stick by Bun's side to protect him, and they become incredibly tied to each other. Bun becomes one of his priority not just because of his aims or organisation but because he starts to care and worry for him. I think his goals have changed, now it's more to find out what he doesn't know about Jane and discover who's charge of this ice business and protect Bun whilst doing so from the criminal. And that's probably what That will also start to do for Sorowit, now Sorowit is more curious and beginning to be part of this case because of Nam, That will have to also keep an eye and protect him. We've seen him do it with his friends, so he'll probably to have to do that role with Sorowit. Because everyone who is being curious is being taken care of; we've seen Pat get removed this episode and it was because of his curiosity, and invasion.
This is worrying because both Bun and Sorawit are not going to let go of their need to investigate this case. Not when both girls involved in this case, is someone they care about, Jane for Bun, and Nam for Sorawit. Also, Nam is still alive, so Sorawit will want to protect her and find out what's going on to prevent her from being hurt again, so he'll be even more determined to find the truth. I think just like Tan uses That to find the truth and investigate, Bun probably will get Sorawit to do the same for him? He's already invited inside the hospital room to see what happened to Nam (though in real life, that's not a good thing to do) and he has the same goal as Bun and a respect/ admiration for what he does. So it makes sense that he'll probably work for him.
So we're in for angsty couple things,; the drama, the danger, the betrayal, the opposites attract thing. But it's also worrying, Tan and That are forced to hold these masks and covers to work for an organisation that is clearly part of the suspect list, they know more than they're letting on and they're determined to hide the reason for why this is happening despite not knowing the full details.
Sorawit and Bun are more in the side of justice both determined to find out why things are happening to the people they care about and how to stop it. However, this puts them in danger. Tan and That are slowly being exposed, their walls are breaking down, their covers are becoming unveiled, and they're slowly feeling happiness and warmth with their partner.
And this is so important because it causes an obstacle for them; do they protect the people they've been tied with for a long time, people they see as 'family' or a union they're loyal to, a place where they're both forced to be puppets and follow the rules without thinking about morality and justice, or do they protect the people they're falling for, that makes them happy, and provides them a safe space to be themselves. It's a dangerous game to play, a risk to take and from how the killer is determined to never be found it's not going to be easy to succeed and escape.
What I can say is that Tan and Sorawit aren't the final suspect, some how they'll have to fight for their love, and have to choose where they stand and overcome this barrier that is before them.
Tan and That and the Suspect
I'm still torn about who we're looking for, who got rid of Jane and the other girls. I'm inclined to think it's Pued's father or Pued, but it depends because I also believe they may be Tan's family (dad and half brother). It could be the mayor who we know is being talked about and hinted to, but what if he is the criminal. The reason why Tan has to protect him is because his mafia organisation is funded by him, so his family members or organisation is being forced to keep his secret so that they don't fall apart or lose their reputation/corruption power etc.
If he is the person, it makes sense why so many people are determined to keep this a secret. However, it's disgusting that there is someone like him who is demanding girls to be pimped out, sedated and then assaulted by him because he's powerful. But that's what makes sense. We heard that Pued felt he had to give Jane to other men who are higher than him for his place to stay by Pat in episode 5, what if the mayor forces these girls to be pimped out by the organisation. It goes awry, and he removes them each time they show rejection or determination to expose him. Tan is just a puppet who is forced to protect the people he cares about and let this happen because he can't do anything else for them. Maybe this is why Jane broke up with Pued because she was horrified by him doing this to her, and she wanted to expose it, but she got eliminated. That could be how she died for Love because Pued led her to the mayor/killer to be pimped out and she rejected it. It seems like the other students are also being pimped out directly by him because of money and medications. So that's also something that needs to be stopped.
Overall Manner of death is so good. And I'm not shocked, I'm just happy, I enjoy the plot, I enjoy the characters, and they do have their own struggles, secrets and surprises. It's really precious to see a plot that still has romance but is really structured and written well, it's unique to BL, and it's also really sweet and romantic without forcing it to us like that. It's natural with MaxTul and TanBun, it's nice to see another couple that mirrors them that is a softer version. It's been great. Let's see how we unfold this mystery, unveil this romance and escape this dangerous situation we're in. Either way, it's going to be worth the ride.

Hi! I'm not sure if this falls within your scope, so I apologize if it doesn't. I was curious about if you have any info on common types of torture committed by criminal organizations- specifically in my case, the American mafia/Cosa Nostra. I've had some difficulty getting reliable information and have heard conflicting things about *if* they even regularly torture individuals. Thank you in advance for anything!
That’s a very good question. It’s not outside my scope but I’m not sure how good the information I come up with will be because this isn’t something I typically look into so my usual sources/starting points might not be the best ones.
With the pandemic on and no books on American organised crime specifically on hand I think I’m going to have to treat this question more generally. However this book came up during my searches and I think it might be a useful starting point for research or worldbuilding. It’s a research piece comparing the functioning and criminal activities of three Italian criminal organisations, the American mafia, Japanese Yakuza, Chinese Triads and a Russian criminal organisation. If nothing else it should give you an idea of how different organisations like this function.
You might already be aware of the legal definition of torture. Essentially torture is defined as any form of painful stimulus that is deliberately inflicted by a government official (or in some cases an organised group that holds territory) for the purpose of ‘extracting information’, forcing a confession, punishment or intimidation. Any of those motivations still count if they’re aimed at a third party rather then the person being tortured (ie if a soldier captures and beats the brother of an enemy soldier to try and get information from the enemy soldier, that is still torture.)
Some countries explicitly include international organised criminal gangs in their anti-torture laws. Some don’t.
From a behaviour standpoint I think it’s fair to say that some of these groups behave more like we’d expect from torturers and some don’t.
Members of groups like the LRA, Daesh and Boko Haram will generally be classed as torturers if they act in ways that meet the other criteria. Because at their height these armed groups effectively occupied and controlled areas of the countries they operated in. They took control from local governments to the point that those government organisations effectively ceased to function and were replaced by organisations (or lack thereof) that the criminals wanted.
And all of those groups tortured as part of a wider campaign of terror.
As you move away from that pattern of criminals trying to create their own country then things get dicer. Whether a group meets the definition of torture depends on the country. And from a research point of view the behaviour we’re looking at may get further away from what we typically see in torture scenarios.
For instance the SEC and groups concerned with fishing in Thailand don’t really control territory. They can’t be understood to have taken control from the government in the areas they operate.
But both operate large scale slavery operations that traffick people across boarders in order to exploit them. These operations by their nature concern the abuse of thousands of people. They generally also have specific people that are- I’m gonna say ‘primarily responsible for the stages of the process where a lot of physical abuse takes place’.
Basically they have people whose effective job is abusing others for the vast majority of their time. Whether it’s the men smuggling enslaved people across the Sahara or guards on the fishing boats out at sea.
You also have organisations that fall somewhere in between the two patterns I’ve described so far, like Mexican Cartels.
But there are also large organised criminal gangs that aren’t necessarily involved in this scale of people trafficking or systematic abuse. This doesn’t diminish the impact of their crimes. But there is a difference between crime that by it’s nature always results in direct harm and crime that may but does not necessarily result in direct harm. An extortion racket is not the same as a slavery ring in terms of injury and body count.
While it doesn’t form part of the legal definition the scale of violence is important here. A torture case typically means thousands of victims over a relatively short period of time. And because of the scale it means the people involved in this abuse could easily be carrying out violent attacks for the majority of their day, every day for months or years.
This is not necessarily the pattern in all organised crime.
Smuggling goods, loan sharking and rackets don’t necessarily lead to the same scale of violence or the same constant exposure to violence.
Drug smuggling can mean smaller scale slavery but to be honest I know next to nothing about it outside of the slavery aspect so I’ll leave it at that.
All of this might seem like extraneous information when the main question is about torture techniques. But the thing is- torture isn’t defined by the techniques used to inflict pain and the majority of those techniques are very very simple.
The most common torture today (probably historically as well) is hitting people. And I’m pretty sure that members of any organised criminal group hit people.
Most of the other common tortures would be impractical/impossible without the ability to hold someone prisoner for an extended period (days or weeks). Starvation, sleep deprivation, solitary confinement and stress positions are not really possible if a victim can’t be held for several days.
As for the other common torture techniques used in America today- Well one of them is basically Tasers or stun guns. I’m pretty sure if they could get hold of them a lot of violent criminals would use those devices. They’re expensive but they’re simple to use.
Waterboarding is pretty simple but it can also easily go wrong and when it does it can cause some pretty…. Difficult to disguise injuries. Like brain damage. Dry choking tortures have the same problems.
Getting back to the main question- I think part of the reason that you’ve heard conflicting things might be colloquial vs precise usage of the term ‘torture’. Because it isn’t clear to me that the American Mafia do practice torture regularly from a legal stand point.
Mostly because I haven’t seen anything saying they’re involved in large scale slavery in America.
But it’s incredibly likely that they do use some of the same techniques. Purely on the basis that most of the time those ‘techniques’ are ‘apply hand to victim’s body with force’.
And most of the time it doesn’t need to be any more complicated then that.
Sorry I couldn’t find you anything more specific but I hope this helps. :)

RETCON TIME!
Time to flesh out her background and make it a little more mine. So here’s Kathlene’s family, the Bombays and the Bombay mafia.
Before I go on, I need to clear this up because I’m not sure many people know the distinction?
Do you lead an organised crime syndicate with hierarchical structure, but you’re not Italian in heritage? -
You’re a gangster.
Do you lead an organised crime syndicate with hierarchical structure, but you ARE OF Italian heritage? -
You’re a mafia.
https://www.differencebetween.com/difference-between-gang-and-vs-mafia/
It’s become a generic term, but this is it’s origin.
With that in mind-
Vicenzu “Vinny” Bombay- Father of Kathlene, husband to Dorotea
Sicilian immigrant, purebred bombay cat toon, fled his original family to America, living outside of the Tooniverse and in the human world. Being a cat has its perks, with heightened senses and faster reflexes the young Vicenzu was an essential member of the current mafia operating there. He learned, grew and honed his criminal skills, finally becoming a made man, and an essential member of the mafia family. Unrest grew in the mafia over the years, as some thought Vicenzu would be better suited to be the kingpin, so him and others loyal to him murdered the current leader, making himself the capo di tutti i capi. Now the as capo, he rules the Bombay mafia, marrying an Italian American woman and fathering 3 children. He tried to raise his son to be the next don after him.
(pronounced ‘vin-chen-zu’)
Dorotea ‘Dotty’ Bombay- Mother of Kathlene, wife of Vicenzu
2nd generation Italian, A ragdoll cat toon, she met a young upstart Vicenzu and they were soon in love. Not as big a fan of violence, but definitely a fan of riches, she’s happy to take the blood money and look the other way when it comes to his criminal enterprise. She was poor and wanted a finer life, becoming nouveau riche.
Not wanting to live in the human world anymore she insisted they move to the Tooniverse. It’s safer and more comfortable there. Vinny must conduct business in the human world, but their mansion is gorgeous! A true socialite. She’s a classic 50’s wine mum.
Bianca Bombay- Sister.
Third born. Beauty queen, good daughter, everything parents could want. Are there secrets that she keeps even from her parents and sister? No!? of course not! Is she not incredibly bitter that her father is grooming Daminao for leadership instead of her, when she’s superior at it, and more interested!? NO
Damiano Bombay- Brother,
First born, Damiano is set to inherit the mafia, but, he doesn’t really want to. He doesn’t like the violence and horror that comes with it. He’d rather go his own way. He’s more bookish and business minded than criminal empire building.
Kathlene Bombay-
Second born. Kathlene, turned out to be a bit of a problem. She inherited her grandfather’s freakish strength, that skipped a generation. Due to the time period, and the strict patriarchal system of the mafia, this was an issue. She wasn’t a quiet, demure, wife type woman as she was supposed to be.
Shamed, repressed, and told to keep her strength under wraps or she’ll never find a husband…she rebelled.
She despises her family’s past and their criminal activities, being a soft, gentle, happy go lucky woman (with a temper). She wanted to do anything she could to escape. Then she met a certain demon…

The Capone family lived near the Brooklyn Navy Lawn. It was a difficult location offered over to the vices sought by sailor characters that frequented the surrounding bars. The family was a regular, law-abiding, albeit loud Italian-American clan, and there were few indicators that the young Capone would venture into a world of crime and become public opponent number one.
al capone movie accuracy ="p__1">But it was Capone's education, both insufficient and brutal at a Catholic organization besieged with violence that ruined the impressionable boy. Regardless of having actually been an appealing student, he was expelled at the age of 14 for hitting a female instructor, and he never returned. In a younger scrape in a brothel-saloon, a young ruffian slashed Capone with a knife or razor throughout his left cheek, triggering the later nickname "Scarface." At age 14, Capone met the gangster Johnny Torrio, which would prove the best influence on the would-be organized crime employer.
The slightly-built Torrio represented a new dawn in the criminal business, transforming a strongly crude culture into a business empire. Capone joined Torrio's James Street Boys gang, increasing ultimately to the Five Points Gang (al capone movie netflix). Torrio moved from New york city to Chicago in 1909 to help run the huge whorehouse business there and, in 1920, sent for Capone.
In 1918, Capone wed middle-class Irish woman Mae Coughlin and calmed down as an accountant, taking a short hiatus from his gangster role. However, Capone soon went back to working for his old employer, Torrio, following the unanticipated death of his dad. Capone and Mae had one child together, Sonny, and remained married till Capone's death.
4 Simple Techniques For Capone Movie Accuracy: Fact Vs. Fiction In The Tom Hardy Biopic.
In 1925, Torrio retired, and Capone became the criminal activity czar of Chicago, running gambling, prostitution and bootlegging rackets and expanding his areas by the assassinating of rivals and rival gangs. As Capone's track record grew, he still demanded being unarmed as a mark of his status (al capone movies). But he never went anywhere without at least 2 bodyguards and was even sandwiched in between bodyguards when traveling by automobile.
With his business acumen, Al became Torrio's partner and took control of as manager of the 4 Deuces Torrio's head office in Chicago's Levee area. The Four Deuces functioned as a speakeasy, betting joint and whorehouse under one roof. A crackdown on racketeering in Chicago implied that Capone's first mobster job was to move operations to Cicero, Illinois.
Between them, they took leading positions within Cicero local government in addition to running whorehouses, betting clubs and racetracks. Capone kidnapped opponents' election employees and threatened citizens with violence. He ultimately won office in Cicero, but not before his bro Frank had been killed in a shootout with Chicago's police.
Due to a lack of witnesses, Capone got away with the murder, but the promotion surrounding the case gave him a prestige that he never ever had before (al capone movie youtube). After a tried assassination of Capone's pal and coach Torrio, the frail man left his tradition of bars, whorehouses, betting dens, breweries and speakeasies to Capone.

Capone's next mission included bootleg whiskey. With the help of his old pal Frankie Yale in New York City, Capone set out to smuggle huge quantities into Chicago.
Capone's bootlegging scotch path from Chicago to New york city was making him abundant, however an event involving Billy McSwiggin, referred to as the "hanging district attorney," was to show a significant obstacle for the unassailable gangster. McSwiggin was mistakenly shot and eliminated by Capone's henchmen throughout a shoot out between competitors outside a bar.
Nevertheless the murder was followed by a huge protest against gangster violence, and public sentiment went versus Capone. High-profile examinations against Capone failed. The authorities, for that reason, took their aggravations out by continuously raiding his whorehouses and betting dens. Capone went into concealing for 3 months during the summer. About Al Capone (1959) - Imdb
Quickly infighting in between competing gangsters escalated into street violence and frequent hijackings of Capone's scotch transportations became a big issue. One significant thorn in the side for Capone was Yale. As soon as a powerful associate, he was now viewed as the primary instigator of disturbances to Capone's scotch service. One Sunday afternoon, Yale fulfilled his end with the first usage of a "Tommy gun" versus him.

The bootleggers, caught in the act, lined up versus the wall (al capone movie on netflix).
All the males other than Frank Gusenberg were killed outright in cold blood. The strategy appeared to go brilliantly except for one major information: Moran was not among the dead. Moran had actually seen the police vehicle and took off, not wishing to be caught up in the raid. Despite the fact that Capone was conveniently in Florida, the authorities and the newspapers understood who had staged the massacre.

Valentine's Day Massacre ended up being a nationwide media occasion celebrating Capone as the most callous, feared, smartest and sophisticated of gangland employers. Even while effective forces were collecting against him, Capone indulged in one last bloody act of vengeance the killing of 2 Sicilian colleagues whom he believed had betrayed him.
Capone had observed the old tradition of wining and dining traitors before performing them. Rather ironically, it was the pen pushers from the tax office who postured the greatest threat to the gangsters' bootlegging empires. In May 1927, the Supreme Court ruled that a bootlegger had to pay income tax on his unlawful bootlegging organisation.
Capone left for Miami with his other half and son and bought Palm Island estate, a residential or commercial property that he instantly began to remodel expensively. This gave Elmer Irey his chance to document Capone's earnings and spending (al capone full movie online). However Capone was clever. Every deal he made was on a cash basis. The only exception was the concrete assets of the Palm Island estate, which was evidence of a major income source.

Line of Duty: Could Jo Davidson End Tommy Hunter’s Legacy For Good?
https://ift.tt/3v2bnKQ
Warning: contains spoilers for Line of Duty series one to six.
Considering that Tommy Hunter has only appeared on screen in four of Line of Duty’s 36 episodes – once in real time, once in a video clip, once in flashback, and once as an unrecognisable bandage-wrapped burns victim – the character casts a long shadow over the police thriller. Whatever and whoever AC-12 has investigated over the years, Tommy’s organised crime group and corrupt officers have been somewhere in the mix, wearing balaclavas, slitting throats and making a mockery of the law.
Though he died in the series two opener, Tommy’s legacy endures. You might call him the show’s root antagonist, the daddy of the baddies. Trace the death of almost any guest star, from Tony Gates to Lindsay Denton to Danny Waldron to John Corbett, and, as the man who groomed Dot ‘The Caddy’ Cottan and Ryan Pilkington, it all leads back to Tommy.
Jo Davidson’s Family DNA Revelation
Series six’s guest star, we learned in episode five, literally leads back to Tommy. DNA analysis shows that Acting Superintendent Joanne Davidson is not only Tommy Hunter’s daughter (a fan theory held since Kelly Macdonald was announced as joining the cast on account of her shared Glaswegian background with Brian McCardie, the actor who played Tommy) but as a product of incestuous abuse, she’s also his niece. In his teens, we assume that Tommy raped his sister, resulting in Jo’s birth.
Jo Davidson is currently leading the investigation into the murder of Gail Vella, a journalist shot dead by Tommy’s former OCG unit to stop her from revealing long-standing connections between organised crime and corrupt police officers. Specifically, Vella was looking into the officers who suppressed the investigation of the racist murder of Lawrence Christopher in 2003, and covered up the 1998 murder of a social worker reporting child sex abuse claims from Sands View children’s home. The link between those two cases is DCI Marcus Thurwell, a character we’ve yet to meet but who will be played by James Nesbitt.
Under duress, Davidson has been disrupting the Vella investigation on behalf of the OCG. While it’s clear to viewers that she’s been forced into corruption and is deeply unhappy about what she’s been doing, what hasn’t been clear until now is what hold the OCG has over her. Now, it seems likely that Jo’s being blackmailed over her familial link to Tommy Hunter. Let’s say Jo grew up not knowing who her biological father was, but the OCG (perhaps via Tommy’s son Darren, or – if he’s H – DCI Marcus Thurwell) knew. They told Davidson, threatening to make the scandal public, which forced her to do their bidding to keep it secret. It’s one possible scenario.
Tony Gates, Jackie Laverty and AC-12 vs Evil
Even without the incestuous abuse angle, having Tommy Hunter as a father is nothing any decent person could boast about. What little we saw of him in series one and two showed him to be a villain of the highest order. Cruel, arrogant and conscienceless, the character doesn’t have a single redeeming feature. If Line of Duty can be read as a moral battle, with AC-12 representing the human struggle to do good, then Tommy Hunter represents pure evil. He may not be the hypocrite that corrupt police officers are, but he’s a sort of devil in this show.
The first few times we encountered Tommy, it was as an anonymous voice on the phone. In series one, Tommy’s goons had killed DCI Tony Gates’ lover Jackie Laverty, a property developer who laundered money for his unit, and were threatening to frame him for her murder. Using a 12-year-old Ryan Pilkington as a phone thief and go-between, Tommy blackmailed Gates into covering up the gang’s drug murders at Greek Lane, mischaracterising them as terrorism-related. Tommy’s unit dealt drugs on the impoverished Borogrove Estate, laundering their money through a series of fake businesses.
Even on the phone, Tommy was a nasty piece of work. He laughed at Gates’ torment and his cruelty showed no limits. He had Jackie killed, Gates beaten up, killed Gates’ dog, threatened his children, almost had Steve Arnott’s fingers amputated… When Gates finally tracked him down and arrested him, he succeeded in getting him to confess to having ordered the Greek Lane murders but thanks to Tommy’s corrupt officers (including DS Dot Cottan, ACC Hilton and very likely CI Philip Osborne), the evidence Gates had gathered was never used and Tommy wasn’t charged. He gave evidence backing up the false terrorism claim, and claimed immunity from prosecution.
Carly Kirk, Lindsay Denton and the Ambush
In series two, Tommy’s villainy only grew with the story of 15-year-old Carly Kirk. Despite supposedly being in witness protection and living under the new identity of Alex Campbell, Tommy was still running his OCG unit behind the scenes. He had refused to leave the local area, citing health reasons, still drove a car registered to him, and continued to deal drugs, launder money and blackmail and bribe police officers. One such was his witness protection officer DS Jayne Akers, whom Tommy paid to turn a blind eye to his criminal activity.
That activity included the sexual exploitation of underage girls groomed by corrupt Vice officers Manish Prasad and Jeremy Cole. Tommy’s gang pimped out girls including Carly Kirk, a child in foster care whom Tommy used in his plan to blackmail DCI Mike Dryden. Prasad arranged for Dryden to have sex with Carly in his car, where he would be photographed for blackmail material. When Dryden spotted his ex-lover Lindsay Denton spying on him with the girl, he threw Carly out and drove away. Denton then witnessed Prasad and Tommy Hunter arrive, when Tommy savagely beat Carly and dragged her away by her hair.

Line of Duty Series 6 Episode 5 Review: Is Marcus Thurwell H?
By Louisa Mellor
At some point in witness protection, Tommy became worried that his immunity deal would be reneged on, and started threatening to expose the corrupt officers working for him, from The Caddy, to Manish and Cole and “the two-faced bastard” at the top (ACC Hilton, CI Philip Osborne or following the recent retcon, perhaps DCI Marcus Thurwell). That led Dot Cottan to arrange his murder, using Jayne Akers to recruit Lindsay Denton into diverting the convoy transporting him so he could be killed. Tommy suffered full-body burns in the ambush and was later murdered by Jeremy Cole in hospital, dying aged 48.
Sands View and Danny Waldron
After his death, Tommy’s villainy grew even further. Ronan Murphy was part of a child sexual abuse ring at Sands View children’s home, where DS Danny Waldron had grown up. Murphy and his uncle Linus were among Tommy Hunter’s closest associates. When Waldron encountered Murphy on an op, he killed him in revenge and crossed his name off a list of 17 childhood abusers he had identified. On that list was Tommy Hunter’s name, crossed out, proving that his OCG unit hadn’t only operated the child sex abuse ring, but he was also one of the paedophiles who’d committed the abuse. (Which makes you wonder about Tommy’s treatment of Dot Cottan and Ryan Pilkington, both of whom he’d recruited for the gang in their early teens. Were they also victims of Tommy’s sexual abuse?)
In series six, Tommy’s family story took on yet another horrid layer with the revelation that Tommy had a son, Darren Hunter, who was one of a gang of racist white youths who’d attacked black architect Lawrence Christopher, leading to his death in police custody in 2003. Darren Hunter and his collaborators were never charged with the murder, thanks to Tommy’s relationships with corrupt officers. The SIO on the Lawrence Christopher case was Marcus Thurwell, who’d also led the cover-up into the OCG murder of Oliver Stephens-Lloyd, the social worker who’d pursued the Sands View victims’ allegations of sexual abuse.
Could Jo Turn Good Cop?
So that’s Jo Davidson’s father: an incestuous rapist, paedophile, violent pimp, sex trafficker, drug baron and racist who ordered murders and torture while bribing and blackmailing his way through Central Police to keep him in business. Putting to one side the senior officers who appeased him, Tommy’s the worst of the worst. Dead or not, he more or less is the OCG, Line of Duty’s perennial baddies. A poster boy for criminal evil.
Which leaves series six in a fascinating dramatic position. The product of one of Tommy’s many, many crimes is Jo Davidson. If Line of Duty is drawing to a close, there would be poetic justice in Jo being the one to finally unveil Tommy’s bent coppers and bring his former OCG unit down. If, in the remaining two episodes, Jo were to turn and work with Kate and AC-12, then Tommy Hunter the symbol, Tommy Hunter the devil, could be ultimately vanquished by an instrument of his own making…

But where oh where do the Cavallone get their money from? And how did Dino manage to execute a complete turn around of their finances and propel his bankrupt famiglia into the top 3 most influential in such a short amount of time? Below the cut, you will find my humble and perhaps very novice take on it, as I myself, am not a Mafioso leader and have based these headcanons very heavily on various sources collected from media, mostly. You can probably skip the first 5 paras which are gibberish, tbh.
So, before I get into the nitty-gritty, let me preface this post by saying I’ve decided to enforce the KHR lore of Mafia over the reality of what Mafia organisations truly are for this. Mainly because, I am rping a character from fiction, so while the below may be heavily romanticised ( much like the Mafia is in KHR itself ) that’s just the route I’ve decided to go down, as an rp blog.
First and foremost, Dino Cavallone is a good person, at heart. Canonically, he is ranked 1st out of 82,263 bosses as caring most not only about his own famiglia, but the general public AS WELL. With this in mind, I don’t personally feel he’d be involved in any activity which poses direct and very harmful threats to the people who live within the boundaries of his criminal empire, or to people in general.
Of course, no underground dealings are without consequence and people do and will get hurt and perhaps even die, inevitably. But Dino would most definitely ensure that these risks are minimised to the best they can be. As much as he is the leader of a top tier crime syndicate, you just don’t get the kind of good reputation he’s earned buy cutting hands off people who can’t repay their illegal loans on time or trafficking children into the unsavoury hands of God knows who.
Good nature aside, incorporating Dino’s talents as tech savvy, business smart, numerically inclined, accountant whizz - I think it’s safe for me to cut out the baser means of earning money like escorting/prostitution. It’s a lucrative business, legal for the most part, and if handled correctly ( which it absolutely WOULD be by your friendly neighbourhood Don ) can be beneficial to both owner and workers. So in that sense it’s good, but I just don’t see it as being a ‘Dino’ mode of moneymaking.
Next comes drugs. So, according to every source in the world ever - drugs is where it’s at! Guaranteed to make the most money in the shortest amount of time with the least effort and is just HUGE on a global scale. A perfect gateway into flipping your bankrupt family back on its feet in zero time at all! Unfortunately, KHR canon says no to drugs, so I’ll stick with that rule.
Right, so what the fuck DOES the Cavallone famiglia do?? My answer to this is; a little bit of everything. Loan sharking, money laundering, protection racket, arms dealing and Dino’s specialism, good old Intel. Let me stress this again, all of the above are HEAVILY regulated. Guns aren’t just being dealt willy nilly to terrorists or kids and money isn’t being extorted out poor of buggers who couldn’t possibly hope to afford it.
I’m going to attempt to put a time line on this, so bare with me ( if you haven’t run for your life already at the hot mess of this meta ). Firstly as another KHR rper on here ( bombassbitch lmk if you want off this post! ) supplied in a group chat, things would have had to start with a total overhaul of finances. Analysis of income vs expenditure, tracking spending, adding up their debts, reviewing investment accounts, applying a strict budget and sticking to it and then of course, finding ways to make more money!
For things to have turned around and the speed they did with the Cavallone, I think arms dealings would have had to be the first and main source of income. This is vaguely backed up in one ( 1 ) single manga panel showing Dino’s involvement in weapons trafficking. Procuring illegally manufactured arms ( likely from Russian Mafiosi ) at discount prices and then redistributing them to other gangs ( heavily vetted ones ) other famiglias, the army, other businesses etc.
The next viable source from there ( you can’t really launder money or be a loan shark without owning substantial funds yourself! ) would be protection racketeer. The Cavallone famiglia is some 5000 members strong, they have a LOT of manpower they’d be able to spread all over for this. I’ll take this opening to say this would NOT be the extortion kind of racket, where the Mafia provide a ‘false’ danger themselves in order to swindle people out of their money, but genuine protection. Mostly in the black market, providing buyers and sellers security for smooth transactions as well as other businesses or groups who may need protection through credible threats of violence outside the sanction of the law.
Then there’s Intel. Dino is a consistent source of this for Team Tsuna in the manga, and there’s no reason he wouldn’t be a source for a lot of other people too. As mentioned above, he’s got a lot of men to expend on gathering and harnessing information, which he the sells on ( or gives away depending on who’s asking ). This to me, doesn’t sound quite as lucrative as a quick fix, but once the Cavallone had re-established themselves financially, it’s certainly become a very large portion of the business they conduct.
This post is already shamefully SHAMEFULLY LONG so yeah I’ll sum the rest of the pies he has his fingers in real quick! Loan sharking - Note, only to genuine persons and businesses who have a high chance of being able to repay their debt. The interest is high, but not outrageously so and the punishment for non repayments are steep, but again, not horribly so. I doubt there would be much violence involved, more a taking over the business and all of its assets for the famiglia ( much like a bank would do ) plus a little extra because there needs to be INCENTIVE for people to repay, there needs to be a Don image to be maintained. But this is where I really ham up the romanticism because I just don’t see Dino beating the shit out of people or their family and breaking bones over repayments. I’m sorry like??
AND LAST but not least money laundering. In this technological era likely through a slew of illegal online casinos and gambling, stuff like that.
I got really lazy near the end of this but YEAH, that is, how my little Dino at least, conducts all his nasty Mafia business.
#SO THIS GOT LIKE LONG#IT'S ALL OVER THE PLACE THERE'S NO RHYTHM AT ALL#but it was actually a good exercise that got me thinking more in depth about the business Dino#as opposed to the 'man' Dino which is what I usually focus on#feel free to tip in I'm open to corrections or input of any kind#like I said it's a very roughly put together meta#peace out#█ ▌♘. ʜᴄ

But it was Capone's education, both insufficient and brutal at a Catholic organization besieged with violence that ruined the impressionable boy.
Between them, they took leading positions within Cicero local government in addition to running whorehouses, betting clubs and racetracks. al capone movie accuracy kidnapped opponents' election employees and threatened citizens with violence.

This consisted of fraternizing with the press and being seen at places like the opera. Capone was various from numerous gangsters who avoided publicity: Constantly wisely dressed, he set out to be deemed a decent entrepreneur and pillar of the community.
However eventually, he took a big risk and gave himself approximately the Chicago cops.

Capone was once again a totally free guy, having made a mockery of the authorities and justice system. Paradoxically, Capone took on the role of peacemaker, appealing to the other gangsters to tone down their violence. He even handled to broker an amnesty in between rival gangsters, and for 2 months the killing and violence stopped - movie with al capone.
Moran had even as soon as tried to eliminate Capone's associate and friend Jack McGurn. The choice by Capone and McGurn to get themselves of Moran was to result in one of the most infamous organized crime massacres in history the St - al capone movie quotes. Valentine's Day Massacre. On Thursday, February 14, 1929, at 10:30 in the early morning, Moran and his gang were drawn by a bootlegger into a garage to purchase bourbon.
McGurn, like Capone, made certain he was far and examined into a hotel with his girlfriend. When McGurn's guys believed they saw Moran, they entered into their cops uniforms and drove over to the garage in a taken police car.

Vieux briscards VS jeunes skinheads

Expert: Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu is in danger of being brought down, possibly soon, over what initially appears to be little more than an imprudent taste for Cuban cigars and pink champagne. In truth, however, the allegations ensnaring Netanyahu reveal far more than his personal flaws or an infatuation with the high life. They shine a rare light on the corrupt nexus between Israel’s business, political and media worlds, compounded by the perverse influence of overseas Jewish money. Of the two police investigations Netanyahu faces (there are more in the wings), the one known as Case 1000, concerning gifts from businessmen worth hundreds of thousands of dollars, is most likely to lead to his downfall. But it is the second investigation, Case 2000, and the still-murky relationship between the two cases, that more fully exposes the rot at the heart of Israel’s political system. This latter case hinges on a tape recording in which Netanyahu plots with an Israeli newspaper tycoon to rig media coverage in his favor. Leads from both cases suggest that Netanyahu may have been further meddling, together with his billionaire friends, in the shadowy world of international espionage. Cigars and champagne Netanyahu’s appetite for a free lunch has been common knowledge in Israel since his first term as prime minister in the late 1990s. Then, he was twice investigated for fraud, though controversially charges were not brought in either case. Police discovered along the way that he and his wife, Sara, had horded many of the gifts he received during state visits. More than 100 were never recovered. The clarifications that were issued more than 15 years ago, as a result of those investigations, make it hard for Netanyahu to claim now that he did not understand the rules. According to justice ministry advice in 2001, government and state officials cannot keep gifts worth more than $100 without risking violating Israeli law. The gifts Netanyahu received from one of the Israeli businessmen involved in Case 1000, Hollywood film producer Arnon Milchan, amounted to as much as $180,000. Netanyahu has argued that these presents, ranging from cigars to jewelry, were expressions of a close friendship rather than bribes to him in his capacity as prime minister. The problem, however, is that Netanyahu appears to have reciprocated by using his position as head of the Israeli government to lobby John Kerry, the then U.S. secretary of state, to gain Milchan a 10-year U.S. residency visa. He may have done more. We will return to that matter later. Also being investigated are his family’s ties to a friend of Milchan’s, Australian billionaire James Packer, who made his fortune in the media and gambling industries. Packer has similarly lavished gifts on the Netanyahu family, especially Yair, Netanyahu’s eldest son. At the same time, Packer, now a neighbor of the Netanyahus in the coastal town of Caesarea, has been seeking permanent residency and the enormous benefits that would accrue with tax status in Israel. As a non-Jew, Packer should have no hope of being awarded residency. There are suspicions that Netanyahu may have been trying to pull strings on the Australian’s behalf. Many of these gifts were apparently not given freely. The Netanyahus asked for them. Indicating that Netanyahu knew there might be legal concerns, he used code words – “leaves” for cigars and “pinks” for champagne – to disguise his orders to Milchan. Police are reported to be confident, after questioning Netanyahu three times, that they have enough evidence to indict him. If they do, Netanyahu will be under heavy pressure to resign. Pattern of corruption Disturbing as these allegations of corruption are, Case 2000 indicates that this is about more than one prime minister’s dubious ties to wealthy patrons. David Ansalem, a political ally of Netanyahu’s, observed on Facebook recently: “In the past 30 years, no prime minister was free from involvement in [police] investigations.” Ansalem was suggesting that Israeli bribery and fraud laws are too strict, and can easily catch out an unwary politician. But the reverse is more likely to be true: politicians are rapidly corrupted by their pursuit of power in Israel. In short, the corruption in Israel is institutionalized. Netanyahu’s predecessor as prime minister, Ehud Olmert, was similarly the subject of several different investigations, and is currently serving a jail term for fraud over his involvement in a massive real estate deal when mayor of Jerusalem. He was also convicted of receiving cash in envelopes from a U.S. businessman, Morris Talansky, in return for political favors. Before Olmert, Ariel Sharon was at the centre of many investigations of dubious financial connections with businessmen, including Israeli real estate magnate David Appel and the British Jewish businessman Cyril Kern. Sharon fell into a long-term coma, and later died, before the investigations could lead to an indictment. This week a corruption investigation against Isaac Herzog, the opposition leader, was dropped, though inconsistencies in his testimony were sharply criticised by Israel’s attorney general. The investigation led to the indictment of Herzog’s campaign manager and a businessman. Also this week, a former chief rabbi of Israel, Yona Metzger, was convicted of bribery and sentenced to three and half years. 20 super-rich families Corruption is rampant in part because of Israel’s extreme concentration of wealth. This is a trend in much of the developed world, but its effects are accentuated in Israel by the small scale of the economy. Research shows that as few as 20 families control most of the country’s wealth, particularly in sectors like real estate, banking, retail, transport and homeland security. It seems some of these super-rich families expect to buy political influence as well. But there is also a combination of conditions, particular to Israel, that blur the distinctions between the personal and institutional, and that have ensured corruption flourishes. The climate was probably set in 1948, when Israel was established on the ruins of another society. The building by Israel’s elites of a new, supposedly more equal society in the agricultural communities of the kibbutz and moshav was possible only through the wholesale theft of Palestinian land and homes. The Absentee Property Law of 1950 sanctioned an orgy of plundering by Israel’s upper and middle classes. That foundational culture is hard to eradicate. Further, Israel’s highly militarised society discourages resistance to authoritarian practices. A 2014 survey by the Israel Democracy Institute, for example, found that only one in three Israeli Jews regarded Israel’s democratic character as supremely important. This trend is reinforced by the sanctity of Israel’s security sector, which includes not only the military, but the many intelligence services, including the Mossad spy agency, Israel’s arms manufacturers, homeland security and cyber warfare firms, as well as more conventional industries. Trust in the Israeli military stands at 90 per cent, and half of the Jewish public believe the security services should be allowed to operate against terror without any legal oversight, according to a survey last year. The secrecy surrounding this sector – and the expansive definition in Israel of “terrorism” – inculcates a consensus in favor of concealment and a set of values in which corruption is likely to thrive. Safeguards are further undermined by Israel’s fractured social structure – religious vs. secular, Ashkenazim vs. Mizrahim, veterans vs. immigrants, liberals vs. settlers. The resulting tribalism creates oppositional interest groups seeking favors and patronage rather than accountability and transparency. Corruption is especially flagrant in land dealings, both in Israel and the occupied territories. In the Negev, in Israel’s south, for example, vast stretches of territory have been seized, often from Bedouin owners who are nominally citizens of the state, and reallocated as private ranches to Jewish families in a non-transparent planning process. The institutionalization of corruption is evident in the behavior of leading officials, especially in the field of law enforcement. The police chief, Roni Alsheikh, and a supreme court judge, Noam Sohlberg, both have long records of lawbreaking, by living in settlements in the occupied territories in violation of international law. Even more glaring is the fact that Avi Cohen, the government official in charge of monitoring and enforcing planning laws in Israel, chiefly against Palestinian citizens, lives in the West Bank settlement “outpost” of Palgei Mayim, which is in violation of Israeli law too. The shadow economy But the reach of Israeli corruption is global. As a self-declared Jewish state, one that formally regards every Jew in the world as being personally invested in Israel, a network of personal and financial ties that are intentionally opaque has developed between Israeli businesses and officials, on the one hand, and overseas Jewish organisations, donors, investors and criminals, on the other. Israeli authorities are aware that criminal gangs with international connections, often in the former Soviet Union, recycle their money in the Israeli economy, often laundering it in real estate purchases. A leaked U.S. embassy cable in 2009 warned that Israel was in danger of becoming a “promised land” for organised crime. The Haaretz newspaper observed recently that this underground economy had become so big – with an annual turnover reaching as much as $39 billion – Israel could find itself on the same list as Iran as “one of the leading state financiers of global terrorism”. Some of this shadow economy is authorised at the highest levels. Israel confers privileged status on international Zionist organisations like the Jewish National Fund and World Zionist Organisation that funnel in donations from Jews around the world. These “charitable” organisations enjoy semi-governmental status, even though they can operate outside Israel’s laws. The WZO settlement division, for example, secretly pumps money into illegal settlements in the West Bank, hiding the money even from Israel’s state auditors. Funds are moved around out of sight, leaving plenty of room for corruption among officials, in addition to the inherent illegality of the settlement enterprise. And then there are the Jewish tycoons from the US, Canada, Europe and Australia who treat Israel as part of their philanthropic investment portfolio. Their reasons include ideological zeal to realise a Greater Israel, salving their consciences for not living in Israel, or extending their influence to the “safe haven” they or their family may need in times of trouble. Most Israeli politicians rely on overseas Jewish funders. Netanyahu won his Likud party’s primaries in 2014 exclusively with the help of foreign donors, all but one of them American. Personifying this unhealthy external interference in Israeli politics is Sheldon Adelson, the U.S. casino magnate who is Netanyahu’s main patron. Adelson has done much more than channel donations to Netanyahu’s campaign coffers. He created a newspaper to get Netanyahu elected and keep him in office. The free daily Israel Hayom, founded 10 years ago, is now the biggest-circulation paper in Israel and is known locally as Bibi-ton, or Bibi’s newspaper, in reference to Netanyahu’s nickname. A recent investigation by Haaretz found that Adelson had sunk an astronomic sum into Israel Hayom – some $190 million in its first seven years alone – to keep it afloat. At the same time, Adelson has been sponsoring Republican politicians, including the new occupant of the White House, Donald Trump, to ensure he has an outsize influence in the U.S. as well. Trump’s sudden conversion to Netanyahu’s pro-settlement agenda coincided with his need for Adelson’s support in the presidential campaign. War against the media Adelson and his Israel Hayom newspaper are at the heart of Netanyahu’s current troubles. The tapes in Case 2000 are audio recordings of conversations between Netanyahu and Arnon Mozes, the Israeli owner of the Yedioth Ahronoth media group, which includes the country’s largest paid-for newspaper. Mozes’ desperate need to save his business empire appears to have driven him into Netanyahu’s embrace. Adelson and Netanyahu’s aim in establishing Israel Hayom in 2007 was not only to create a propaganda platform for Netanyahu. It was also intended to drive rival papers, especially Yedioth Ahronoth, out of business by forcing down their income from advertising revenue. U.S. businessman Adelson’s pockets are much deeper than those of Israeli businessman Mozes. This was effectively a vendetta by Netanyahu and Adelson against Mozes for using his media empire, which once enjoyed near-monopoly status in Israel, to damage Netanyahu and support rival politicians. Yair Lapid, a former columnist at Yedioth, is today leader of the Yesh Atid party, a potential challenger to Netanyahu for prime minister. He has in the past received strong backing from his former paper. In the tapes, Mozes and Netanyahu discuss a deal that would guarantee the Yedioth media group cheerlead for Netanyahu in return for his government passing legislation to limit Israel Hayom’s circulation and possibly force it to charge a cover price. The pair appear to have broken off contacts some time before Israel’s general election in March 2015. Had the talks succeeded, Netanyahu would have enjoyed almost blanket support in the mainstream press. The holdout would have been the liberal, and very small-circulation, Haaretz daily. Netanyahu was not prepared to rest there, however. After the 2015 election he appointed himself the communications minister so that he would have regulatory power over Israel’s broadcasters. Since then he has been waging a concerted battle to intimidate Israel’s two commercial TV stations, Channels 2 and 10. Even after the latest revelations, he remains in charge of the communications ministry. From Hollywood to Mossad Cases 1000 and 2000 share at least one figure in common. Milchan gave Netanyahu extravagant gifts over many years, but he is also reported to have acted as go-between, bringing arch-enemies Netanyahu and Mozes together. Milchan has his own financial stake in the media, in his case a holding in the Channel 10 TV station. In addition, Milchan introduced Netanyahu to sympathetic businessmen, including his friend Packer, to discuss taking the ailing Yedioth media group off Mozes’ hands. Only last October he arranged for media mogul Rupert Murdoch’s son, Lachlan, to fly to Israel for one night for a secret meeting with Netanyahu. Milchan is undoubtedly at the centre of the shadowy world of power and finance that corrupts public life in Israel. Not only is Milchan a highly influential Hollywood figure, having produced more than 100 films, but he has admitted that he is a former Mossad agent. He used his Hollywood connections to help make arms deals and secure parts for Israel’s nuclear weapons program. One can only wonder whether Milchan was not effectively set up in his Hollywood career as a cover for his Mossad activities. But Milchan, it seems, is still wielding influence in Israel’s twilight world of security. Yossi Cohen was appointed head of the Mossad a year ago, after a government vetting committee accepted that he had no personal ties to Netanyahu. But Cohen forgot to mention that he is extremely close to Netanyahu’s high-flying friends – connections that are now under investigation. Milchan set up a global security firm in 2008 called Blue Sky International, stuffed with Israeli security veterans. Packer soon became a partner. They developed close ties to Cohen, first while he was a senior official at the Mossad and later when he headed Israel’s national security council. Before Cohen was appointed head of Mossad in December 2015, the pair had hoped to recruit him to their cyber-security operations. Cohen received several gifts from Packer, in violation of Israeli government rules, including a stay at one of his luxury hotels. A source speaking to Haaretz said Blue Sky had “more than [a] direct line” to Netanyahu. They “would pull him out from anywhere, at any time, on any occasion.” According to Haaretz’s military analyst, Amir Oren, the new disclosures raise serious questions about whether Milchan and Packer twisted Netanyahu’s arm to parachute Cohen into the post over the favored candidate. In return, Packer may have been hoping that Cohen would authorise exceptional Israeli residency for him, classifying him as a security asset. Beyond this, one one can only speculate about how Cohen’s indebtedness to Milchan, Packer and Netanyahu might have influenced his decisions as head of the Mossad. It was only a few years ago that the former Mossad chief, Meir Dagan, was reported to have wrestled furiously with Netanyahu to stop him launching a military strike on Iran. Prosecution drags feet It is unclear for the time being whether the revelations are drawing to a close or will lead deeper into Israel’s twin netherworlds of financial corruption and security. But what has emerged so far should be enough to finish off Netanyahu as prime minister. Whether it does so may depend on the extent of Israel’s compromised legal system. Attorney general Avichai Mendelblit was appointed by Netanyahu and is a political ally. He appears to have been dragging his feet as much as possible to slow down the police investigation, if not sabotage it. But the weight of evidence is looking like it may prove too overwhelming. As political analyst Yossi Verter observed: “There’s no way that a police commissioner … appointed [by Netanyahu] and a cautious attorney general, who in the past was part of his close circle and one of his loyalists, would be putting him through the seven circles of hell if they weren’t convinced that there’s a solid basis for indictment and conviction.” The next question for Netanyahu is whether he will step down if indicted. He should, if Olmert’s example is followed. But his officials are citing a 1993 high court ruling that allows a cabinet minister under indictment to remain in office. Certainly if Netanyahu chooses to stay on, his decision would be appealed to the court again. However, the judges may be reluctant to oust a sitting prime minister. The court of public opinion is likely to be decisive in that regard. A recent poll shows few Israelis believe Netanyahu is innocent of the allegations. Some 54 per cent think he broke the law, while only 28 believe him. Opinion, however, is split evenly on whether he should resign. Where next? If past experience is any measure, Netanyahu will try to turn public opinion his way by increasing friction with the Palestinians and exploiting the international arena, especially his relations with the Trump administration. He may be expected to encourage Trump at the very least to posture more stridently against Iran. Nonetheless, most observers assume Netanyahu is doomed – it is simply a matter of when. The odds are on an indictment in late spring, followed by elections in the fall, say Israeli analysts. At this stage, none of his political rivals wants to be seen stabbing Netanyahu in the back. Most are keeping quiet. But behind the scenes, political leaders are hurrying to forge new alliances and extract political concessions while Netanyahu is wounded. Naftali Bennett, the settler leader, is pushing aggressively for annexation of Ma’ale Adumim, a large settlement strategically located close to Jerusalem, as a prelude to further annexation of parts of the West Bank. Who might succeed Netanyahu? Yair Lapid, of the centre-right Yesh Atid, is heading the polls, but that may in part reflect the disarray in Netanyahu’s Likud party. In a sign of where the deeper currents in Israeli society are leading, a Maariv poll last week showed that settler leader Naftali Bennett would win an election if he were to head the Likud. Netanyahu now needs the help of all the powerful friends he can muster. His biggest ally, U.S. casino magnate Sheldon Adelson, may not be among them. After the revelations that Netanyahu was conspiring against him with Mozes, Adelson has cut back on Israel Hayom’s circulation and is reported to be offering less favorable coverage of the Netanyahus. That could prove the final straw, sealing Netanyahu’s fate. • First published in Mondoweiss http://clubof.info/
