so v1 is absolutely insistent that they put in a nice jacuzzi/mini pool into their apartment since a bathtub just won't do, and gabriel is of course fine with the idea since it would be great to relax in. only problem is...gabe and v1 aren't really the home improvement types, so it's all they can do to get a bath installed that at least has running water. gabriel claims it's fine, but he's only taking baths with v1 since it can warm up the water by amping up its processing power. however, gabriel knows he needs to start looking for a new solution when fraud's boiling pits of pitch start to look intriguing - ultimately, i really now like the idea that with the ferryman's help they're able to craft a heat pump so their pool can get as toasty as gabe needs. and then he is nearly LIVING in that thing, sinking in up to his chin for a couple hours a day in utter bliss lol i like to think they also maybe set up a little sauna for him, somewhere he can just sit and steam if he gets particularly chilly or to help prevent ice build-up. BASICALLY they somehow manage to build a mini-spa in fraud lol

I actually prefer Gabe turning into stone by opening the box himself.

He wasn't monstrously abusive like he was in the book, he was a more toned down deadbeat emotionally abusive loser, which fits the show's more PG theme.

Having Sally KILL him in the show would have felt out of place and a bit extreme. In the books it made sense bc the early 2000's was very much a "kill your bullies" era.

The movie was criticized for Percy planting the head to turn him to stone rather than Sally, saying it was robbing her of her agency. But show!Sally has plenty of agency, even to the point where she is able to file for divorce and kick him out, something book!Sally didn't do.

I like this change, I think it fits with the shows vibe, and its not too extreme since he fucked around and found out all on his own.

"hur hur gabe wasn't as abusive as he was in the books" people can all shut up. percy's jaw TREMBLED when ares yelled at him, which had nothing at all to do with his god status - percy backtalks gods just fine. he had trauma response to ares yelling. ares didn't so much as lift a finger. that goes to speak volumes about what percy was experiencing at home

Im already seeing really bad takes that the show didnt make Gabe “abusive enough”. First and foremost, there are so many different forms of abuse, not just physical abuse. When we first see him, he is instantly belittling Percy. You can see how much of the space he takes up in the apartment. He has a single recliner, a jersey on the wall, and a side table all for him while he gambles with Sallys money. He is immediately financially abusive and verbally abusive.

Second, he answered Sally’s phone and spoke to the principal at Yancy. He is trying to control how Sally raises her son and is giddy at getting another person to bully again. Also, he controls the car. Sally has to negotiate with him and manage his reaction to her taking her son to Montauk. In this scene we see her sass him back and tell him to ask her nicely which I think is a great way to show that Sally still has some agency in the situation. She is able to say she doesnt want to be spoken to disrespectfully.

Lastly, in The Lightning Theif, Percy states “For the first time, I realized something. Gabe had hit my mother. I didn’t know when, or how much. But I was sure he’d done it. Maybe it had been going on for years, when I wasn’t around.” This was in the second to last chapter of the book. People are mad they didnt see him hit her in the first EPISODE??? Be so for real. Give the show time to flesh everything out.

the best commission client you can ever get is always going to be this specific guy: he wants you to draw an oc he's had for like 16 years, he has a folder of references, she's like a catgirl who is also a magician or something, he has 3 paragraphs of her lore that he gives you + an exact pose, he's extremely polite and tells you to take as long as you need, and then he tips like $160 on top of the asking price at the end. and he always looks exactly like this
