I have been both busy and in a slump lately, but wanted to make a post on some of the new fashion packs I’ve been finding in stores. So, here’s a compromise: I just take pictures at my beat up art desk, only turn on the easy to get to light, and just use dolls that are within arms reach.

Here are the Naturalistas/Latinistas clothing fashion packs. I thought they were all pretty nice (the pink one’s fabric is kinda thin and see-through though). The yellow one ended up being my favorite and that’s what this Naturalista’s going to be wearing back on the shelf.

I knew that she couldn’t fit the LUV packs, but the purple dress is so loose in the top I thought she miiiiiight be able to fit in it. It was pretty short on her and didn’t close all the way in the back.

The shoes were also a bit too small on the Naturalista.

But they fit a Pinkie Cooper doll pretty well (the two black pairs of shoes were a smidge bigger though). They also fit a regular Barbie well too (the black strappy sandals and black heeled shoes might fit a curvy or tall Barbie’s foot better).

LUV fits both G1, G2 (pictured here because I didn’t want to redress any G1’s around me and my cat decided that the table was now hers). The sleeves are a bit short on the jacket, but not bad. I really would love to see if I can put this outfit on the new G3 Catty as the material has some stretch to it.

I LOVED this outfit on this G3 Clawdeen. After I recurl her hair and give her an Afro puff, she’s going back in this.

The outfits are also a pretty good fit for Pinkie Coopers (the top is a bit loose due to their lack of boobies).

Then I spotted four Hairmazing fashion packs and picked those up (they were much cheaper than the LUV packs). This one is a bit short on Barbie, and the headband didn’t really work. It’s a better length for Clawdeen, but loose in the top.

Sleeves were short on the jacket on my Barbie, but could work for 3/4 long jacket. The top was a bit tight, and the skirt was a bit loose. Jacket was a better fit on Clawdeen, the top was horribly loose, and the skirt was on the loose side too.

This one WOULD NOT close in the back for Barbie, but was a bit of a better fit for Clawdeen (also, the top can be seem ripped to separate it from the overalls pretty easily).

I liked the shiny fabric on this one. The skirt mostly fit Barbie (it was a bit higher in the back though), but the top was a no go).

Clawdeen could get away with it, but the top was loose.

I grabbed several curvier G3’s to see if it was a better fit on them. The skirt would not fit up Abbey’s legs, but the top was a perfect fit! The skirt actually fit super well on Draculaura, but the top was a smidgen too big.

The sunglasses fit Monster High well.

The headbands were not really a winner on either Barbie (too big and bulky), or Monster High (to small).

The shoes were a PERFECT fit on G1/G2 Monster High (so probably Ever After High too).

My Bad Batch boys were jealous they didn’t get to try on anything and just stood on the nearby shelf…so here you go! They felt very pretty afterwards.

If I had a Crosshair and an Omega they would have also joined in.

I'm thinking of making Draculaura some clothes inspired by g1's and g2's dolls (mainly g1 dolls and iconic looks from the movies), ofc starting with the classic look, and going through an entire list of outfits for her.

I think tho her new outfits are very pretty and more modern (and less of the victorian vibe of G1), i think some of her old looks would look SO GOOD in the current body model. Maybe eventually i will make a OOAK Draculaura 13 wishes (the emo versions yk which ones I'm talking about) version g3

Also there's one think i kinda dislike about g3, and its the fashion. it feels like its lost a bit of its uniqueness with characters. Drac lost her Victorian roots, while ghoulia is no longer scene emo, Clawdeen has this more Quirky indie kid look rather than her original rock look. i think bringing some of that back would really make the new designs pop more.

Nightmare Nightmore Highlights.

I'm not gonna recap or analyze the episode too much I just wanna share a few of my favorite things! Not really any spoilers, if you've already seen the leaks of Abbey and her mom floating around then you're all caught up.

Draculaura is throwing a party for the holiday of Nightmore, but I couldn't possibly care less. I'm here for Abbey!

Heath has the same reaction to seeing Abbey for the first time as a lot of us did. in Awe of her beauty. same dude, same.

She towers over everyone! even the boys! I am in love!

Draculaura is like a smurf compared to tall powerful Abbey.

Abbey's eyes aren't purple anymore, they are brown! and so pretty! breaks up the abundance of purple in her hair and outfit I am super into it!

Abbey's hair blend is the colors of the Bi flag and I have no choice but to stan.

Mama Bominable threatening to bring forth a cold harsh merciless winter upon Bloodgoods head if she doesn't produce Abbey is such a mood. I love me a good mama bear.

WHERE IS NIGHTMARE!? why is this messenger dragon hanging out in Bloodgood's office but her horse isn't!? The episode even has nightmare in the title but I see no Nightmare the horse. I don't like it. A headless horse person without their horse is just a zombie... why are you booing me? I'm right!

Draculaura already has her license in this gen? I'm here for it! Also Clawd chose to sit next to her. Also Clawd said "nailed it like a coffin" which was only ever said in G1 by Clawdeen and that makes me happy.

This is the second or third episode where Lagoona inexplicably has flat teeth, the music video for her doll did this too. I'm not exactly a professional animator but I've studied it enough to know that rendering characters off model is a fire-able offense. Fix it Nickelodeon.

Heath encouraging Abbey to use her ice powers telling her she is strong, charismatic and beautiful. ahhhh! my heart!... I've mentioned on here I'm not much of a shipper per-se. But that was a lie, Habbey was one of my OG ships and it brings me such joy to see them again! I needed this since the only Heath we got during G2 was this:

Yeti's in this universe seem to basically be water benders and I am okay with that! Mama Bominable is fuckin pissed! LOL Bye Bloodgood it's been nice knowing you!

Damn, Abbey's dad didn't contribute any genetics to that her at all. Mama Bominables genes were like "this is MY child!" I do love that she has horns and a more pronounced underbite, perhaps Abbey will get these traits as she grows? Or maybe her buns are hiding her horns? IDK but it's fun to imagine! I wonder where they got the idea to give their yeti Horns... HMMMMMMM

it's a mystery, we'll never know.

This isn't even a highlight I'm just taking pictures of Mama Bominabe at this point, I love a strong woman willing to murder the school principle for her daughters safety.

SHE CALLED ABBEY SNOW ANGEL AHHHHHH- I'm sorry I just had to get that out.

The boy is in love! .... And he actually says something really profound. I'm so impressed G3 is giving Heath some depth and not just making him a one note idiot... Don't get me wrong, I liked one note idiot Heath but there was more to him than that.

Heath trying to kiss Abbey on the first day of meeting her is absolutely a G1 call back.

in her intro episode he kissed her hand and his lips froze off.

I love everything about this episode! I love that Abbey is Nepali! it's way more accurate to her Monster type and before some nerd tries to get in the replies and go "Actually Russia occupied Nepal at one point" that's true, they did BUT! the myth of the Yeti originated in 1937, Russia didn't occupy the Himalayas until the 1960's.

This episode is my new favorite! I heard a rumor that we won't get any new Monster High episodes until after the new year, but if they are anything like this? they will be worth the wait!

but here we go!

- G3 designs are complete ass & an even bigger downgrade than G2. The colors are ass, the outfits are bland & basic, there are too many fucking motifs & patterns, etc. It’s a complete & utter eyesore from start to finish. Clawdeen & Lagoona are easily the worst offenders of the whole lot. Lagoona’s colors clash SO MUCH. 

Clawdeen is not much better. Her outfit has too many moon motifs. Her outfit is just one main color, just in different shades with little-to-no experimentation with other colors.

The only design that I “liked” (keyword: liked) was Frankie, & even then I still have issues with their design. 

Once again, too many fucking motifs. It’s like they’re trying too damn hard to overcompensate for the fact that they don’t have the rights to the Universal monster design anymore (green skin, neck bolts, etc).

What I ALSO hate about the designs is how inconsistent they are when compared to the show. Both Toralei & Ghoulia have long hair when their designs in the shows have short hair & pigtails respectively, Cleo has an entirely different outfit. It’s just???? Why.

- I don’t understand how G3 Frankie having a prosthetic leg is “disability rep”. This is a ghoul who can canonically sew on limbs at will & you’re seriously telling me that they needed to have a metal prosthetic leg? It’s not like it’s the same as people who have to have a prosthetic leg for the rest of their lives. Like Frankie’s parents could easily just get them a new organic leg or something.

- The new races they’ve given some of the ghouls are lazy & tokenist as fuck. It doesn’t help that they partly fall into stereotypes too (Lagoona being a Spicy Latina with that “I’m like chili mango, I’m sweet & I’m spicy” line, Draculaura having an overbearing parent & her being a perfectionist, Clawdeen being shown as half-Mexican by her liking tamales in her song). Like seriously, Mattel, you couldn’t have made new characters if you wanted more representation in the cast? I know that some of the new characters in G2 (Moanica & Ari) didn’t exactly go over too well, but that’s cause they were bland replacements for well loved fan-favorites (Ghoulia & Spectra). I’m not opposed to having more representation, but the way they did it is just lazy.

G1′s representation wasn’t perfect either but I’m not giving G3 brownie points for doing the bare fucking minimum

Like, there are monsters from Honduras, Taiwan, China, Mexico that they could’ve made dolls based off of, I don’t understand why they just chose to raceswap instead of making new characters like G1 did.

Hell, I’ll show you some monsters from these countries:

El Cadejo (Honduras)  -  A supernatural spirit that appears as a dog-shaped creature. It roams isolated roads at night, according to Central American folklore of indigenous origin. There is a good white cadejo and an evil black cadejo. The white one protects travelers & is benevolent, while the black cadejo is malevolent & lures people to make bad choices.

Jiang-Shi (China) - A Chinese vampire that moves around by hopping with it’s arms outstretched. 

Na Tao Ji (Taiwan) - The ghost of a spurned widow who haunts pine trees.

La Llorona (Mexico) 

You see? There are already monsters to get inspiration from for new characters, but NOPE. Just raceswap already existing characters, cause that’s just soooo much easier /s

Sidenote: In the show Draculaura is half Taiwanese but in the movie she’s Filipino. Same thing for Lagoona, she’s Honduran in the cartoon but Colombian in the movie. It feels like they’re just throwing ethnicities around & seeing if it sticks or not & it makes me dislike G3 more than I already do.

- I know that the accents in G1 were iffy & I see why some people have issues with them, but giving almost EVERYONE American accents feels like a very lazy way of fixing the issue. These mfs sound like they’re all from fucking California now. Why does fucking DRACULA sound like an American, he’s Romanian? Where is his iconic accent???!!! 

- The new box art is ugly, bland & uninspired. It makes the dolls blend in with all the other dolls on store shelves.

- Frankie being made nonbinary in G3 feels performative, & it doesn’t help that Mattel’s already misgendered them on some of the toy boxes for the dolls. I feel like that says a lot about how much they’re actually gonna commit to it.

- I get that making Abbey Nepalese is more accurate given that she’s supposed to be from the Himalayas, but I still miss her Russian accent. I wish they could’ve just changed her country of origin so that she’d be from Russia of even Siberia instead, given that both countries are listed on the page for the Yeti.

- Why were the movie & the cartoon so closely released to each other if they take place in entirely different universes? It’s just very confusing, especially since some of the plot points in the movie aren’t in the show. Like Draculaura not needing to hide her doing witchcraft from her dad is just dropped from the show & she’s now back to hiding it. Like it begs the question of who thought this was a good idea at ALL.
