Warm summer nights were good for being outdoors. Basteaux preferred to spend as much time outside as possible, knowing all too well that when the weather turned cold he would be holed up in his cave. Knowing the season as he did, he knew this was the best night to go seek out the clearing where there was a good view of the darkened sky.

“Do you see them?” he asked, turning his gaze from the heavens to the companion sitting in the grass at his side. “Keep watching.”

Going out to watch meteor showers had been a family tradition when he was young. Back then he could see the way the stars flashed across the sky, dragging streaks through the inky blackness. He remembered what it was like, even so many years later, even if he could no longer make out their brilliance. But hearing the sharp intake of breath beside him, he knew that Fymh had seen them.

He went quiet, letting the Viera’s reactions be the star he could see. It was quite unplanned and unexpected, even for him, when he leaned the few ilms in order to press a kiss to the top of their head, not far from one fuzzy and expressive ear. Basteaux immediately blushed and backed off, clearing his throat and going so far as to scoot over in the grass. “...I’m, er... I’m glad you like it.”

A gentle chime rang through the woods. It danced along the breeze, winding its way past the ancient trees, riding along like a wave until it reached the young Viera's ears.

The sound traveled through their form, only leaving a strange ache behind, an ache that curled into a tight ball inside their chest.

"…What was that?"

"A Prayer."

The quick answer received a gentle tilt of a head as a response, a silent lingering briefly before the child spoke up once more.

"What…what is…a prayer?"

"A Wish."

Another silence, though a shorter one, the older male speaking up before another question could escape their charge's lips.

"A wish for safe journeys. For those walking ahead, and for those left behind."

Even if they couldn't quite understand, their teacher's solemn, quiet tone denied elaboration. They could only wait, quietly, until his gaze was pulled away from the distance, returning to them with the same, lonely warmth as always.

"One day you will understand."

Oh boy, time to do a little list!

Otte is bi, with a strong, very very strong, leaning towards the masculine, both romantically and sexually. While living with his tribe he presumed he merely had no interest in things outside the platonic, but moving away and meeting all kinds of people - all kinds of tall people, made him realise otherwise. He doesn't have much opinion about it, except he would prefer not having any preferences whatsoever.

Fymh is very inexperienced with all things of romance and beyond, and so they're completely oblivious to their own preferences! Even I am not sure what their orientation will turn up to be - only time will tell.

Athell is definitely pan, she is more interested in what is on the inside (the aether, specifically), than on the outside. Maybe she is more aethersexual then? She isn't ashamed of it, either, it's a part of who she is and so she embraces it fully.

Everaux is utterly, completely straight, and has no opinions or questions about the fact. He thinks men are cool, of course, but has no interest towards them romantically or sexually.

Afi is heteroromantic on an asexual spectrum - and he is fine with it. Having no interest towards intimacy made things a little awkward in his youth when siring children was expected and most were eager to do so, but now that those duties are no longer a concern he has completely embraced his indifference towards it.

Teruya is...a mystery. He is fine with taking clients from all genders and walks of life, but doesn't have much interest or attraction towards them on a personal level - he isn't required to sleep with them, after all. There is probably a preference in there, somewhere, but at the moment he hasn't revealed much of that side to me.
