How do you feel about Fuji? 👀
FUJI SHUUSUKE
I’m not going to be coherent here probably.
How I feel about this character
Let me brag about Fuji Shuusuke character development a while, there’s a lot to say here.
Let me tell you about how he’s clearly the kind of fucker that works his ass out and yet he hides every single effort because he wants his results to look effortless. He want to look like a genius which is not (unrelated: Marui’s like that too).
Fuji’s not kind. He loves to look like he is but he’s not.
His hypocrisy in “punishing” others by humiliating them like he did with Akaya and Mizuki truly shows what his real personality is. He’s calculating, and feels like he’s in the right to judge, as if being ‘stronger’ at tennis makes him in the position to punish others for their ‘crimes’.
Of course Fuji’s immune to Inui’s juice, because it’s part of the act of building the ‘perfect boy image’.
It’s a different kind of data he collects, but Fuji never steps on court unprepared; he steps on court with a victory basically certain in his hands because he studied it out. There’s no hunger for challenge in Fuji Shuusuke.
If he was a Pokemon Trainer he’ll be going to face a lvl 10 grass gym with six lvl 20 Charmanders if this explains what I mean. He wouldn’t go ahead and taste the challenge, the risk, the adrenaline; he only wanted to be sure he’ll win.
AND YET, you can see later in the anime how his personality started to change; he faces Shiraishi, and tries to do what he usually does, start as a victim, winning the favour of the crowd and then turning the tables and being the hero who grabbed the win after a successful comeback.
But this time every calculation he did was wrong; he either underestimated Shiraishi, overestimated himself, or who knows. But his plan didn’t go as he wanted. And tbh he’s more disappointed bc Shiraishi took his arc from him and he’d been the one who comes back from the pit and wins, than he’s disappointed because of the loss.
That said, of course I love him very much.
All the people I ship romantically with this character
With anyone in particular?? IDK really.
My non-romantic OTP for this character
At the beginning I always believed that him and Eiji were close and I still kinda believe it now? I mean not that ‘friends’ close but ‘very much understanding each other’ kind of close.
I probably parallel them with Niou and Marui (which I ship very very much, unrelated information) for being classmates and having so much different personalities so I would like to explore this relationship more.
Regarding Tezuka, I think he doesn’t really trust Fuji, so I can’t really see them being friends. Eiji doesn’t completely trust him either, but Eiji knows him better and also doesn’t care.
My unpopular opinion about this character
As I mentioned before, he’s a 100% schemer, in tennis, in school, in his relationships with people. Even his kindness is never real. He never once doubts that he’s right. He’s not a good person, but he’s not a bad person either. He’s just plain arrogant.
One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon.
Well I wanted to see him lose despite giving his 200% and Konomi gave us that, thanks Konomi. Now I want someone to confront him with his hypocrisy, not to see him humiliated or such, just to confront him with his true self and grow up of this basic need to be the ‘perfect’ one.
