Flighteningverse Week 2024

Day 6: Brothers(and Day 7)

It was just another supply run. They needed some more herbs that Horror didn't already have in their greenhouse, as well as some meat and other foods they were running out of. This time Sanguine and Dust were doing the supply run, they all usually take turns doing them, and sometimes all of them do it. They saved enough money from doing some odd jobs in AUs.

They were in two separate shops, but not too far from each other, it was Dust's insistence that they don't stray too far from each other. As much as Sanguine has gotten better at being in crowded places, he secretly admits he enjoys that his friends care enough to always be nearby on supply runs or just trips to other AUs.

He was looking through some produce when he felt... something. Something he hadn't felt in so long, or, rather, someone. He immediately whipped his skull around, looking for just a glimpse, enough to know that he wasn't imagining this feeling. It had to be his brother, right? He has to find him. He has to. He just can't let him get away again. He misses him so much, it hurts.

Just as Sanguine was turning the corner of the next aisle, he saw someone with a large cloak leaving the shop. But, looking closer, he noticed some feathers. Normally, that wouldn't be too weird, other normal monsters can be feathered and/or have wings. But, while he may not be able to tell whose feathers they looked like, he had this gut(or lack thereof) that was his brother. He started making his way to him, following him out of the store, produce forgotten inside.

"Hey! Hold up!"

The stranger jumped, turning around. Yellow eyelights met purple eyelights, for the first time in so long.

"Dis-"

Disper then started fleeing before Sanguine could even finish speaking, having panicked at seeing his brother after so long. He was scared that Sanguine still hated him, and while he sorely missed his brother, he couldn't help but to still fear that he'd hurt his brother. Even though he's had plenty of time to get used to the strength he gained from the negative apples, he still has the anxiety and self-doubt that he'd lash out against the ones he cares for.

Sanguine gave chase as soon as the shock wore off. He was going to catch him so they can finally talk. It hurts, to have his brother run from him as though he was going to hurt him. The fear he saw in Dispir's eyes in that short moment, why was he so afraid of him? Or was it something else?

They ran through the streets, several humans and monsters having to jump out of the way of the two. Sanguine tried calling out for Dispir to wait, he just wants to talk, but Dispir didn't listen and kept running. The only thing that kept either of them from taking flight was the crowded area they were running through. But Sanguine knew that at some point, it'd be clear enough that Dispir would likely start flying to keep avoiding him, so he had to catch up to him before then.

And, sure enough, after turning a corner onto a relatively clear pathway, Dispir starts unfurling his wings and takes off. Sanguine follows soon after, taking their chase to the air.

After a short while, Dispir weaves through the buildings and, when he has enough distance, opens a portal and flies through. It closes quickly after, which Sanguine just barely missed. He vaguely saw the other side of the portal, but not enough to know for sure where he portaled to.

Sanguine just hovers there, in shock and defeat. Did he just lose his brother again? Why was he so scared of him that he was trying to fly away so fast? Why couldn't he catch up to him? Did his brother really not want to see him anymore? Did he hate him? As his thoughts spiraled down, he didn't notice that he's been lowering in altitude, only vaguely noticing when he touched down in an alley.

Dust later finds Sanguine after he's collapsed on the ground crying, having noticed that he wasn't in the other store or nearby and went looking for him. He wished that Sanguine had a phone, especially in situations like these. They tried to recommend one, but he was reluctant to get one, not used to the technology since it confuses him. Guess that's what happens when you grow up in an AU that didn't have modern technology. They're still helping him acclimate to the more modern stuff.

Dust ran over to him, only somewhat relieved that he was not hurt, but became more concerned when he saw him crying and mumbling to himself. "Hey Night, what happened? I couldn't find you for a while there. I got worried."

Sanguine only continued mumbling, "I couldn't reach him. He was right there and I couldn't, couldn't reach him- why was he so scared?"

Dust was only more concerned, who was he- Oh. He kneeled down, "You saw your brother? Did you see where he went?"

Sanguine flinched, snapping his head around, apparently only just now realizing he wasn't alone. "Dust? When did you get here?" He tried wiping his tears away, but more kept coming.

"Not too long ago, bud. Heard ya mention someone being right there? If I am guessing correctly, you were talking about your brother? You saw him?"

Sanguine nodded, looking down again. His wings subconsciously wrapping around him and Dust, who was right next to him. Dust ran one of his hands through his feathers as Sanguine told him about how he found his brother and the chase that followed. At some point, Dust's wings were also spread a bit and one was in Sanguine's hands, being massaged.

It's something they all noticed about Sanguine, he had a habit of fidgeting with his hands when he was nervous or otherwise overwhelmed. And if they had their wings extended out to him, he would start preening or massaging them as he worked out his stress, and enjoyed others doing the same for him. It helps calm him when he's too overwhelmed by his emotions or doubts. All of them got used to this new habit, unintentionally building this habit for themselves when everyone's wings had finally grown in. Not that any of them were complaining, it was a very pleasant habit, and definitely better coping mechanisms that isolating themselves if they were having bad days. They gave each other their own space of course, but inevitably whoever was having the bad day would eventually come out and ask for it in their own way.

After finishing his story, Sanguine leaned into Dust, who put his other arm not running through the other's feathers around his shoulders. "I sure missed a lot, huh? Well, let's think of what to do next. Did you see anything through the portal he made?"

Sanguine, calming down, started concentrating, trying to recall any details about what was on the other side of his brother's portal. "... There was snow, I'm pretty sure it was a Snowdin? I saw the banner, but not entirely sure cause I didn't see much before it closed."

"Okay, that's not much to work with, but it's a start. But that would also be assuming that he either stays in that AU or even frequents it. Was there anything else?"

"I think I saw that there was a Muffet's? It looked different than Grillby's, at least."

Dust thought it over, going over the AUs he remembers them visiting. They haven't visited a lot of them, there were the regular visits to the AUs that they got supplies from, then there were the ones they looked for Sanguine's brother. There was one AU type that had a Muffet's in place of a Grillby's. What was it called again...?

"Oh, I think it was an Underswap universe. Or maybe one of the Fell variants..."

Sanguine perked up, "Oh? Well, I guess we have a lead, if he stays in one of those, anyway, but it's something rather than nothing. But there has to be so many of those. How will we even narrow it down?"

"We'll figure it out. One step at a time, though. Let's go back and get what we need and head back home first. As much as I know you want to immediately go and find him, rest is important, too. As you've been telling us," Dust added cheekily.

A chuckle escaped Sanguine at that last remark. "Alright, alright, I guess you're right. Let's go, then."

~Much later, after looking through many different Underswap AUs~

Sanguine opened a portal in the woods close to Snowdin, and entered with Horror, who insisted on coming with, and Killer, who Dust shoved into the group. Dust has a headache, only aggravated by Killer's seemingly endless energy, thus why he shoved him into the others and stayed home. Cross stayed behind to keep an eye on things, and is generally quieter, which is good for Dust's headache.

They kept their wings closed and tucked into their coats, more or less trying to blend in a bit. Horror has his hood up, too. They wandered a bit in Snowdin, just trying not to draw too much attention to themselves while looking for any sign of Dispir being there at all. Killer split off to look over at the Snowed Inn and shop, while Sanguine and Horror explored around the other side toward the skelebros' house.

As they got closer, Blue exited his house in his usual dramatic flair. What got Sanguine's and Horror's attention more than that, was the feathers on Blue's back. It looked almost exactly like when Sanguine's friends started growing wings. Although, it didn't make too much sense to Sanguine. His friends started to grow wings and such because of them being outside their universe, right? Could it also be from his presence? This is unknown for now, and has to wait until later.

Blue noticed the two upon exiting, and especially noticed their staring, but it didn't bother him, he was the Magnificent Sans! But they also weren't from here, he could tell. He could also see the feathers on their faces, and it reminded him of Dispir. He waved at them, and greeted them.

"Hello! I am the Magnificent Sans, who might you two strangers be? Would you like to come inside? I can make hot chocolate!"

Sanguine and Horror were a little hesitant, but Sanguine answered, "Hello, this is Horror, and I'm Sanguine. We wouldn't mind, but only if you're sure? We don't want to intrude."

"Of course I'm sure, I wouldn't offer if I wasn't!"

"Then sure, we'll accept your invite. Thank you for inviting us. Oh, but if it's alright, we have a third person with us, he's back over there somewhere," he said while pointing in the general direction of where Killer was, "would it be alright if he came, too?"

"Oh, of course! I was about to go find my lazy brother, Papyrus, but I'm sure he's around somewhere, and will be fine waiting a bit longer, mweheh."

"Thank you, I'll go get him real quick, Horror, you can stay here if you want, I'll be right back." Horror nodded and stayed with Blue, who led him inside to start making hot chocolate for everyone.

When Sanguine came back with Killer, the hot chocolate was almost done, and they sat next to or near Horror on the couch. As they settled in, a portal opened up in the living room, startling them.

Dispir walked through the portal, not noticing them yet, calling out, "Hey Blue, I'm back! I know it hasn't-"

Sanguine, shocked but acting immediately, tackled Dispir in a hug, holding tight in fear that if he let go, he'd disappear. The action did make them fall to the ground, Dispir squirming to get out of the surprise tackle. Upon realizing who is holding him, he panics.

Blue comes back into the room to find Sanguine and Dispir struggling on the floor while Horror and Killer are looking ready to either join the pile on the floor or ready to jump behind the couch. Wings are flailing about and feathers are ruffled. "Hey! Let's calm down, now! Why are you two on the floor?"

Sanguine ignores him, but addresses Dispir while tears are running down his cheek bones, "Please calm down, I'm not going to hurt you! I just want to have my brother back! Please listen!"

Dispir doesn't register what's being said, but as Sanguine keeps holding him in place and repeating that he won't hurt him, just stop trying to run from him, he loves him. He starts actually hearing what he's saying, and slowly calms down a bit.

"You... don't want to hurt me?"

"No! I would never dream of hurting you! Why did you think that? Is that why you've been avoiding me all this time? I've been searching for three years, more or less." In a quieter voice, he admits "I thought you hated me..."

Dispir's eyes widened at that, "No! I don't hate you! I never did! I'm sorry, I never wanted to make you feel that way. I was just afraid I'd hurt you again." By this point they're facing each other, finally talking to each other ever since that fateful day.

Everyone else in the room relaxed more, seeing that the brothers have stopped semi-fighting on the floor. Deciding that they needed some time to themselves to sort out their feelings and misunderstandings that have been unresolved up until now, they moved to the kitchen. Blue made another cup of hot chocolate for Dispir, and served the other two their cups that he had finished making before the small scuffle. He then gave the brothers theirs afterwards, leaving them on the coffee table for them and going back to the others.

Both Sanguine and Dispir were in tears as they cleared up misunderstandings, and talked about the Incident(tm) and what led up to it. They both learned things the other had kept secret, and what they've experienced since. They both hugged near the end, but both of them hadn't stopped being in any kind of physical contact, especially Sanguine, who would never admit that he was clingy. His friends(might as well be family though) already know this, but they don't tease him for it. Except for Killer, but Sanguine knows now that it's all light-hearted, so he doesn't get too embarrassed about it anymore.

Eventually, they ended up falling asleep there on the couch, their emotional talk had drained them and just passed out after they finished talking. Blue got extra plankets and pillows, and Horror and Killer helped Blue get them comfortable on the couch. At some point Honey showed up, and before he could say anything, Blue motioned to keep quiet and pointed upstairs. So both of them went upstairs, likely so Blue and Honey could talk about the unexpected guests they suddenly got. Honey was fine with it as long as they didn't hurt Blue. Even if Killer and Horror seemed a bit sketchy, he wasn't going to turn them away.

Killer and Horror set up a spot on the floor to the side of the couch to rest with the extra blankets and pillows for them to nap there. They knew that they'd get a proper introduction to Sanguine's brother when they woke up, but for now, best to just stay nearby and let themselves rest. They did text Cross and Dust that Sanguine had found his brother and they managed to talk to each other. They fell asleep soon after, feeling happy for their best friend for finally reuniting with his brother.

Other Info

- Dispirited!Dream travels alone a lot of the time after leaving Underscape, but after he met Blue, he hasn't felt as alone as before. He met Blue after he escaped from a particularly violent AU, beaten down pretty bad. Blue found him barely conscious while out on patrol and brought him home, and treated his wounds. Dream didn't trust him at first, but he eventually trusted him enough to stay and fully heal. After he was healed, Blue made him promise to come back and visit, he used his Puppy-Dog Eyes on him. They became friends after several visits, and Dream revealed some of his past, even told him of his brother. He admitted that he misses his brother, but believes that he's not welcome in his brother's life anymore. Blue asked him if he knew that for a fact, Dream said no, but is afraid to find out if it is or not.

- Blue tries to convince Dream to try to see his brother again, but Dream refuses, sometimes answers with a "maybe." Blue is determined to help Dream make up with his brother.

- Blue's brother, Honey, was wary of Dream at first, but knew his brother was determined to heal this stranger. He just kept an eyesocket on him to make sure he didn't hurt his bro. It's not that he doesn't think his bro can't take care of himself, he just wants to be there to back him up should this person be hostile towards them. After a few visits after Dream was healed, Honey introduced himself properly. Dream was aware of someone watching him, but didn't make a big fuss over it. He knew that he was a stranger in Blue's home, and Blue had mentioned his brother in a few conversations, so he figured it was probably his brother watching. Honey eventually came to trust that Dream won't hurt his bro, and even hung out with him when he visited and his bro was out working.

- Dispirited!Dream eventually ran into Spectrum, or rather, Spectrum flew into him. After apologizing a lot, they were curious about each other a bit, though Dream was still wary. Ink was curious because, other than Tempest and Reaper, he hasn't seen anyone else who had wings, and this is the only person who had two pairs of wings! Spectrum was so excited to meet this person, because new friend! Dream was curious because Spectrum is the first person besides his brother who has wings he's seen. They decide to talk and kinda get to know one another. Dream finds him strange, but in a good way. Spectrum is excitable about things, and doesn't seem affected by Dream's aura at all, as small as the effect would be. They eventually split up, but Spectrum would continue to seek him out sometimes, just to hang out.

- Sanguine!Nightmare, on his search for Dream, came in to Horrortale. He then met Horror, who lost his brother due to a cave in. The ceiling of the cave had collapsed and a stalactite fell onto their home when Horror was out hunting. It was an unfortunate accident that left him feeling numb after his initial grieving. No one bothered him, wanting to give him space. It was a couple of weeks until Nightmare came, and by then, Horror hadn't eaten much of anything. He still hunted for food for the town, but only took small amounts of food for himself. Nightmare offered to help him with food, and a way out of his world if he was willing to leave. Horror accepted his offer, not having anything left in his world. Nightmare helps him heal from his brother's death and helps him with the malnutrition Horror had due to the state of his AU. Because of this, Horror became very loyal to him.

- Nightmare wasn't expecting Horror to stick around as long as he does, he was expecting him to find a place to stay and live the rest of his life. He can't say he isn't grateful that he stayed, though. He was quite lonely after Dream left, and never stayed in a place too long to form any actual friendships.

- Nightmare and Horror traveled the multiverse together, and Nightmare shared with him the reason he travels. Horror understood, and tries to help him find Dream. They eventually come upon Dusttale.

- Dust had finally killed the human, but was waiting for the Reset. He spent the time in his home, sitting on the ground. After a while, with no Reset happening, he started breaking down. The memories of what he's gone through, what he's done, begin to plague him. He curls up on himself and sobs, apologizing to his dead brother and friends.

- Nightmare feels his despair, and searches for the source of it. Horror followed him, and they came to Dust's house. Nightmare knocked on the door, but had to dodge the attack that came through it. Dust was surprised, though, when he saw people who looked kinda like him. He was hesitant to fight them, wanting to know what they wanted before deciding what to do.

- They tell him the reason they're here, and offer to help him. After some consideration, he agrees and Nightmare takes him under his wing(heh). It takes a while, nightmares and other setbacks being an issue with Dust's recovery of his sanity, but he becomes mostly sane after a few months. He stays with Nightmare and Horror because he decides he's better off with them, though Nightmare only slightly protested. He didn't deny him coming along with him, though.

- Horror and Dust didn't fully get along at first, there were a lot of tense moments between them that occasionally led to arguments or fights. It never became too serious, though, and Nightmare always managed to separate them and settle their arguments. They eventually got along, though, and their arguments were more playful.

- They visited many other worlds, and enjoyed their visits, except for when Nightmare got too panicky in the crowds in a couple of those worlds. They made sure to get him out of the crowds and somewhere safe for him to calm down. (They eventually find that the best way to calm him down after this is to preen his wings, it helps ground him.)

- They eventually came across Killer, who attacked them as soon as he saw them. They managed to tire him out, though not without injuries on both sides. He let them talk when he realized they weren't going to hurt him when he's too exhausted to fight back, and Nightmare offered to help him, just as he offered to help Dust and Horror. He didn't answer right away, said he'd think about it. Since he didn't have a way to communicate with them when he wanted to give them an answer, he allowed them to stay in one of the empty houses in Snowdin while he stayed in his home.

- Killer decided that he'd join them after thinking about it for a couple of days. Nightmare helped him deal with his emotions as they came back, and Dust and Horror helped him with his LV issues as well.

- Killer's SOUL became an upside-down heart shape after a while instead of target shaped. It will go back to the target if he's really upset, though.

- Cross was the next who joined, they found him in his empty AU crying. When he saw them, he was unsure if they were real, or if he was hallucinating. Nightmare reassured him they were real, but before he could say anything more, Cross had ran to him and hugged him. Nightmare didn't expect it, but didn't pull away, though the others almost pulled a weapon on him, thinking he might've attacked him. Cross, being reassured that they were indeed real, pretty much begged them to take him with them. Nightmare easily agreed, and they all left with a crying Cross, though his tears were from happiness this time.

- Cross never left their side, and if they had to split up, he always stayed with one of them. His time in his empty world made him afraid of being alone, which the others understood.

- Cross has wings, which Nightmare found very interesting. Cross admitted that he didn't always have them, though, and never actually used them to spite X!Gaster. Nightmare offers to teach him how to use them, to which he agreed. It took a lot of time and effort, but eventually Cross was able to fly with expertise. Before they even started, though, Nightmare saw how poorly they were taken care of. Cross said that he never knew how to maintain them, and let them be, even as they felt uncomfortable. Nightmare took his time preening them, teaching Cross how to do so on his own as well.

- They eventually came across Tempest, who was relaxing in Outertale. Tempest was wary about them, just as they were wary about him. They all managed to agree not to attack each other, and instead talked to each other.

- They found out that Tempest destroyed entire universes, but doesn't destroy the more major ones. Tempest found that they were just traveling through the multiverse, and that Nightmare was looking for his elusive brother. They parted ways, though Tempest likes to keep an eyesocket on them. They even meet him again every now and then.

- Tempest took a liking to them, though he doesn't admit it aloud. It becomes an unspoken alliance between them, though they don't take part in destroying universes with him. He even convinced them to at least have a place to stay and return to when they're tired of traveling.

- They decided to occupy a large house in one of the abandoned-but-stable AUs that Tempest pointed them to. The world is empty of inhabitants, Spectrum had evacuated it a long time ago due to Tempest destroying a universe near it, fearing that it would be his next target. It was the perfect size for them, though they had to have it fixed up a bit, it was left in disuse for a long time.

- After fixing it up, they had a nice living space that they can live in. After living in it for a few months, all while going out and trying to find Dream, they eventually got comfortable enough to start messing around in it. Some of their roughhousing ended up breaking things, but thankfully it wasn't ever something really important to any of them. They all knew not to take any of their shenanigans that far.

- Tempest and Spectrum used to be more enemies than friends, or at least in Tempest's point of view. Spectrum thought of it as a challenge to get Tempest to be at least friendly to him.

-After they made a truce, where Tempest would stop going after the major AUs and Spectrum agreed he won't interfere with him when he destroys them. Spectrum uses this opportunity to try hanging out with Tempest, but it doesn't go well for the first several attempts.

- Tempest, being a few inches taller than Spectrum, likes to tease the other about their height difference. Spectrum doesn't like it, and tries to defend his height. Tempest does it because he likes to mess with him, and finds his reactions hilarious. Spectrum eventually gets used to it, but still reacts like that, but doesn't actually mind it anymore.

- They also fight with each other, though it's more to keep their skills sharp. They found that fighting is a good way to exercise and actually enjoy their spars, as that's what these fights resemble now.

- Tempest is friends with Crow(Birdtale!Sans), but doesn't admit it. When he first met Crow, he was flying through his AU, this was before he met Nightmare and his group. Crow had seen him flying around, and decided to join him. It kinda led to them racing the other and seeing if the other was going to be hostile. Tempest was the winner of the race, though Crow did keep up for the most part. He was falling behind, but stayed in eyesight of Tempest. Tempest had fun, so decided he wouldn't do anything to this AU, he chose to visit it sometimes.

- Tempest is kinda friends with Star(Outertale!Sans), too. Though he found that flying in Outertale is quite hard due to the low gravity, he took it as a challenge to fly in Outertale with at least some mastery of it. He eventually does figure out how to fly in the low gravity without hitting any floating islands or crashing into the ground.

- Tempest enjoys watching the stars with Star, it's quiet and relaxing. Sometimes Star would talk about random topics, from what happened that day to theories about other life out there, besides Earth. Tempest would occasionally talk about other universes and what they're about, and his thoughts on them. Sometimes it turns into a rant about how the concept of an AU is really stupid or doesn't make sense. Star just listens, and maybe even jokes about the AU.

And here's the other info that I didn't feel fit for their refs. Their interactions with others and who they trust as friends.

Warning: Panic Attack

     Sanguine and his group were in an AU, while they were keeping an eye out for Sanguine's brother, they were also there for supplies for their new base. They had split up, Dust and Killer went to go find furniture, Cross went for some entertainment stuff like cards and board games for days where they took a day off from searching for Dream, and Sanguine and Horror went for food and anything else they needed.

     Sanguine had stuck by Horror's side, but had spotted something he knew they'd all enjoy. It wasn't crowded, and he figured it would only take a couple of minutes to go over to the food stall and buy it. He did tell Horror, believing it wouldn't take long, and because he wanted to surprise them all later. As he approached the stall, some commotion started happening not too far away. He didn't pay it much mind, hoping that it went away soon. Unfortunately, he was not that lucky.

      Apparently, this universe's Mettaton decided to pay a visit to this little town. As soon as people saw him, they immediately started calling out to him, which attracted more people's attention. They all started crowding around him while he soaked up the attention they were giving him. Sanguine had gotten swarmed by the crowds, and was also being pushed and shoved by the people, whether intentionally or unintentionally was unknown. He immediately went into a panic, not knowing where so many people had come from, and not being able to get away.

      He felt like he couldn't breathe, and the pushing and shoving reminded him of the villagers. He was in a full-on panic attack, and couldn't hear anything except for the whispers of the horrible things the villagers had said to him all those years ago. No one else in the crowd seemed to have noticed his state of mind or his growing panic and fear. Horror, who had heard the commotion starting up, had initially ignored it, believing that Sanguine was still by his side. When he looked over once he noticed that a crowd was forming rapidly, he realized that Sanguine was no longer next to him, and became frantic.

      Horror knew that Sanguine did very poorly in crowds, and he couldn't spot him anywhere. He knew there were two options, one, Sanguine had wandered somewhere less crowded, or two, he got caught in this very crowd. He figured he'd try to find his friend in the crowd first, because if he was in there, he needed out NOW. If he was elsewhere, it wouldn't be much of a problem, and he'd tell him off about going somewhere without at least notifying him or one of the others. It was difficult to get anywhere in the crowd, as tightly packed as it was, and he silently wished he could summon his axe to make these people give him room. He wasn't going to, because he truly didn't want to terrorize people who were just excited to see the famous star.

       He eventually got through enough of the crowd to see his friend, and he instantly knew that he was deep in his panic attack. He tried his best to get to him, but it was especially difficult this far into the crowd. Fortunately, it seemed that, despite all the noise that was around him, Mettaton noticed one of the people in the crowd trying desperately to reach someone. He followed their line of sight to another monster, who was extremely distressed. He might have been concerned about the first monster's head wound if it weren't for the fact that the second one looked ready to pass out from fear.

      Mettaton called the crowd to move over as he quickly made his way to the panicked monster, the crowd parting to let him through, and the ones who were immediately surrounding Sanguine finally noticed how terrified he looked and backed away a bit. This gave Mettaton room to reach him and try to calm him. Mettaton also told the crowd to let the other monster get over here, which they immediately did. Horror rushed over and tried to calm his friend, but saw that he was too far into a panic attack for words alone to help. Mettaton had told the crowd that he'd love to talk to them more, but he would greatly appreciate it if they went on with their day today. They groaned, but were appeased when Mettaton told them he'd be staying in the town for a few days, so they had plenty of time to chat with him later.

       After the crowd dispersed, Horror thanked him for that, which he dismissed. He felt he was to blame for his friend's panic attack, which Horror waved off. "How could you have known what would've happened? Don't blame yourself for this, it wasn't your fault. Besides, you helped me get to him and got to him to try to help." Mettaton felt a little better, knowing that he didn't see him as the cause of the actions of his fans. Horror sent an emergency text to the others, letting them know what happened. He went back to rubbing Sanguine's back and wings.

      Cross was the first to arrive, but the others weren't too far behind. They all went and helped relax Sanguine's wings, which were really tense and pressed into his back, so that they could start preening them. They all found, through trial and error, that preening his wings helped ground him and helped him through his panic attacks the best. Horror had the longest time to find out what helped, since he was there before the others, and had no idea how to help at first. He hadn't found out this technique until after Dust had joined, though it still took a while to figure out how to properly preen Sanguine's wings. By the time Killer had joined, they had essentially perfected their efforts to calm Sanguine down from his panic attacks. They had to tell Killer, then Cross, how to help him if or when Sanguine fell to one, but did their best to make sure he wasn't in a situation like that as much as possible.

        They just sat around Sanguine, preening and just running their phalanges through the feathers, and Mettaron had gone to get water and some light snacks for all of them while they tended to their friend. They always enjoyed feeling his wings, they were the softest and fluffiest feathers they ever felt. Cross's were not as soft, but they were smooth and silk-like. Eventually, Sanguine's breathing had calmed down and he had registered that his friends were around him and there was no crowds in sight. He let the tension in his body go, though it was a slow process. Horror and the others noticed this, and proceeded to hug him gently. "...Thanks guys."

       "It's no problem, we all want to make sure you're alright. Though, I do have to ask, why did you wander away from me? I'm not mad, I promise, and I'm not going to say that you shouldn't have any freedom to walk around alone. I just want to know." Sanguine recalled the reason why, and told him, "I had seen something that I knew you all would enjoy, and I wanted to surprise you all with it. I didn't expect a crowd to form so rapidly." "That was partly my fault, dear." Mettaton came back after grabbing what he went out for, and offered Sanguine some water and a sandwich, then offered the others the same.

      "My name is Mettaton, and I happen to be rather famous around here. I usually do love the attention given to me by my fans, but when I saw how distressed you were, I knew I had to tell them that I couldn't entertain them today. And I do apologize for how you were treated by them, even if their excitement must've made them oblivious to your situation." Sanguine drank some of the water that Mettaton gave him, and thanked him for helping him. The others were just happy that Sanguine was okay now, if a bit shaky still, though that's normal after a panic attack.

      Mettaton had insisted on paying for the stuff they were buying, and despite their protests they did allow him to pay for them. He was very persistent and stubborn about it, and also pointed out how some of their furniture choices would match better with this or that furniture. Eventually, they finished their shopping, and Sanguine had gotten the surprise as well without the others noticing what it was thanks to Mettaton, who he'd told about what he was trying to get. Mettaton actually got two of it, since it was the thing that had led to him panicking.

     They used a portal to transport their furniture and other stuff back to their new home, thanked Mettaton again for all he did to help them, and went home. The surprise Sanguine wanted to get them was a variety pack of cookies that he saw had all of their favorite flavors. Now that he had two, he planned to save the second pack for a movie night or something. After they finished organizing all their furniture and decorations, they relaxed and Sanguine gave them the pack of cookies as a reward for all the hard work they did. He grabbed his favorite cookies as well as they all sat on the new couch, which they made sure fit all five of them(with a side chair they reserved for Tempest in case he came to visit or they managed to invite him). They all had a relaxing night and fell asleep next to each other on the couch.

Hee it is! The Sanguine angst story that I said I was working on. I didn't know which universe they should be in, but they are in one that's made it to the surface. Sanguine was just trying to be good to his friends family and surprise them with a gift, then he had a bad time for his troubles. The point of this story is that I wanted to show how his panic attacks in crowds were like, and how the others help him. Mettaton isn't a stuck up person here, either, and if he had known there was someone who didn't do well with crowds, he would've either arrived in a different part of town, or delayed his arrival. He wants to look out for others due to his caring heart. That doesn't mean he's not egotistical about his fame, but he knows when to put it aside for serious matters.

Height - 6'11"

- He's a very chill guy, and is probably the one who everyone is at least tolerant with, as he strives not to make enemies.

- He's still a parasite, but doesn't drain all the life-force from those he has to "infect". The host he chooses has no memory of what happens afterwards, and is mostly ok, other than feeling very exhausted and maybe a little sore.

- He's very aware of Tempest and Spectrum, having been around almost as long as those two. He was friends with Spectrum first, as he wasn't hostile towards him at all. Tempest wanted nothing to do with him, though. Not that it stopped Radical from eventually befriending him after years of persistence.

- Has also adopted Tempest as his older brother. Tempest eventually saw him as a younger brother as well, so they occasionally hang out. Tempest is also very protective of him ever since seeing him as a brother.

- Radical has yet to meet either Dispirited!Dream or Sanguine!Nightmare.

- Likes to prank Tempest and Spectrum sometimes.

- He has a Bop-It that he'll occasionally mess with when he's bored. He's also a collector of Beanie Babies.

- His wings and facial feathers poof on the new host and disappear when he leaves the host. It is not painful when either happens.

And part 3 of the surprise! Fresh was on the list of characters to design for Flighteningverse, so it was about time I designed him. He's very colorful.

Maybe it's obvious, but his wings are inspired by the scarlet macaw.

- He's kinda okay with his job for the most part, though there are moments where he hates his job as Death. Such as when he has to reap children or those who died from terminal illness.(just a couple of examples)

- He has two pairs of wings, though he'll only show the second pair while reaping, as he stores the souls he reaps in them. They act as some sort of pocket dimension for them until he can return to his world to release them into the Afterlife(don't know if there's an official name for it in canon Reapertale, but I'm going to call it that here).

- His Death Touch ability has left him touch-starved, which he has accepted, though he does hug and hang with his brother whenever they both have the free time. Which they both do have, they are given at least one day off a week from their work by Reapertale!Asgore. This was something they had to convince him to grant them, but they did get that time to relax with each other and de-stress from their job.

- Reaper can turn into a raven to disguise himself if he were to roam in the worlds he visits without revealing who he is, as that's the only way he can touch anyone and anything without his Death Touch affecting anything. He can't speak in this form, though.

- He is still a coffee addict connoisseur. He prefers caramel coffee, but won't turn away other flavors and types of coffee.

Part 2 of the surprise! Reaper was fun to design! And he's the only one that has a pair of wings that aren't feathery. The second pair is smokey lavender, or at least that's what I was going for.

His feathered wings are based off of the black swan, but without the white feathers, though I had thought about adding those. But decided against. They look better like this.

Height - 5'2"

- He has the same past as the original Geno.

- After he got stuck in the Save Screen, the multiverse couldn't tell if he was inside or outside his universe, so it eventually altered his code to grow wings.

- Unfortunately, due to his fatal wound, the wings weren't in the best state when they formed. They came out broken and injured, and missing some feathers.

- The process was much harsher on him, too, as he was hunched over in pain the whole time they were forming. It was only slightly better when they were done forming.

- He can't usually fly, and can't really move them so much without causing more pain, so he keeps them open and low to the ground.

- He doesn't really take care of them much, both because he doesn't have anything to help take care of them, and because he is depressed. The only thing he did to take care of them was to clean off the blood that was on them when they formed.

- Has chosen not to talk to the Sans that replaced him in his world, as he decided against his initial plan. He also didn't want to have to reintroduce himself every time he did after a Reset, so left him alone. And he refuses to interact with Frisk(who is stuck there as well but understands that he wants nothing to do with them, so they leave him alone) at all, so he's also very lonely. Spends most of his time watching the world through the windows, especially Papyrus.

- Can't sleep due to constant nightmares of the genocide routes. This causes him to not only have eye bags(eyesocket bags??), but he's kinda jumpy sometimes.

- He eventually met Tempest, who randomly showed up in the Save Screen. This was after the truce with Spectrum, so Tempest was not hostile. Tempest decided to stay when he realized just how lonely he must've been, and remembered how lonely he felt when he woke up in the Anti-Void.

- Fracture ended up adopting Tempest as a brother, though neither can decide who's the "big brother" of the two.

- Tempest introduced him to Radical shortly after, I mean, might as well introduce your adopted brother to your newly adopted brother, right? It went well, and adopted each other. Tempest became very protective of Fracture as well. Fracture is the same way, but as he can't do much outside the Save Screen, he instead insists they cuddle and he won't let go until his protectiveness dies down.

- He is kinda clingy, and is not willing to lose anyone close to him. So that kinda leads to him not letting Tempest go for a while. Tempest doesn't mind too much, though, by that time, he trusts Fracture enough that his haphephobia doesn't act up during those moments.

- This was all before Fracture met Reaper.

Part 1 of the surprise I planned for after Flighteningverse Week. Fracture is adoptive brothers with Tempest and Radical, as I couldn't help but have them being brothers, I love that take on Error, Geno, and Fresh.

Fracture's wings were inspired by the Rosefinch:

Not any particular rosefinch, some of the common rosefinch and some of the pink one. Particularly the very white underside of the feathers.

FV!Horror:

Height: 6'8"

Tallest in the group, but was shorter when Sanguine first found him. Being nourished back to full health also gave him a growth spurt.

Quiet and soft-spoken. Can unintentionally come off as intimidating due to his size and look. Is a bit self-conscious about it, though the others reassure him that he's not scary to them.(Even though they get jump-scared when he unintentionally sneaks up on them when they don't notice him coming up behind them. They have to console him because he then gets scared when they jumped from being startled.)

His hoodie and shirt had to be given holes for the wings that are going to grow there.

He's blind in his right eye, and has some depth perception issues.

He also has some memory issues, and is sometimes slow to react to things, but is better than when he was in his AU.

His axe is actually inspired by the dinosaur fossil replicas that I have, specifically the Utahraptor claw fossil replica.

The pouches on his belt contain small snacks like granola bars and other similar food stuff.

He was very concerned about growing feathers, and it had scared Sanguine because he didn't know what was happening. It started as an ache in his back, nothing serious. After a week, the ache was gone, but started feeling uncomfortable in the same spot where his aches were centered. When he looked in the mirror and noticed the feathers on his back, he freaked out and went to find Sanguine.

They managed to calm each other down, and Horror ended up liking them.

Feathers are based on the Eurasian Eagle-Owl.

He lost his brother to a cave in, and Sanguine had found and helped him when he was in a depressive state.

Gives the best hugs.

Is the main cook for the group, though the others get to make food for everyone sometimes.

Sanguine puts him in charge if he leaves the three alone in their home.

FV!Dust:

Height: 5'7"

Actually the smallest in the group, is a little annoyed by this.

Rather chill.

Still has his brother's scarf, and while he wears it most of the time, sometimes he leaves it on top of his dresser alongside the jar of dust that was salvaged from his old jacket. The dust is from several monsters who he killed, and keeps it as a way of memorializing their remains.(totally didn't forget to incorporate his scarf into his design-)

Has moments where he has hallucinations about his brother, but the others help ground him.

Was gifted his new sweater hoodie by Horror, the other one was dumped.

Is doing much better mentally now, but still has issues with nightmares.

Favorite thing to do in his free time is gardening, some of which gets used for the meals Horror cooks.

FV!Killer:(I know his right hand(our left) looks small, I was trying to go with the look that it was settled on his hip)

Height: 5'9"

His Soul is now just an inverted heart by default now, and his one eyelight is visible. He's able to see through both eyes, but can't summon his right eyelight anymore.

His Soul will revert back into a target shape if he's upset, though.

Likes to collect decorative knives.

Sometimes still has issues with his emotions. Sanguine and the others help him with them.

He carves wood and paints the finished carving. It helps keep his mind busy when he starts feeling terrible.

Is a bit of a prankster/troublemaker. Currently in a prank war with Dust, but they both set boundaries for the pranks. No messing with the garden, scarf and dust jar, and the knife collection. Or anyone else unless they instigate a prank on either of them. Accidental pranking of the others is excusable, but do some kind of chore.

Sanguine!Nightmare

- He can shoot shards of light at others with his wings. His wings are also stronger and sturdier than before, so they can be used in close combat if it's needed, but he doesn't like fighting if he can prevent it.

- He can make his wings glow bright enough to nearly blind others in quick bursts, which can allow him to get away if he's trying to avoid particularly violent people.

- His aura makes others feel more positive feelings while also feeding on those positive feelings, but not much. It's slightly addicting, but not so much that it's noticeable that it's addicting. The person who's been around him long enough that it takes effect only feels slightly sad when he leaves. He can control his aura slightly, but only when he's awake. He can't turn it off completely, though.

- When he's flying, his wings glow a little brighter than when he's not flying. If he's flying at night, it looks like a shooting star, but obviously slower. He's not that fast.

- He travels the multiverse trying to find his brother. He knows his brother still cares about him and is still himself. He knows this because if Dream wasn't, he wouldn't have healed Nightmare before leaving. So he's hopeful to be able to convince his brother he still cares about him.

- That doesn't mean he's oblivious to what Dream did, but he knows they can talk things out. He has a feeling that the only reason Dream left was because he realized what he'd done and didn't want to accidentally hurt him. Though he doesn't know how different his brother is now in terms of personality and physically. He didn't get a good look at him before he passed out. He had been about to pass out when Dream had gone through his change.

- He can interact with other people's dreams, he makes sure they don't suddenly turn into nightmares mid-way through. He can't prevent nightmares from happening after a dream has passed, though.

- He can't interact with nightmares, cause his aura doesn't allow him to.

- He doesn't like crowds, he'll go into a panic attack if there's too many people around him. His experiences with the villagers traumatized him, so he tries to avoid crowded areas.

Here's the ref for Sanguine!Nightmare! I loved making his outfit, the cyan/turquoise(whichever one it is) is kind of a reference to the goopman we all know and love.

- His second pair of wings can shoot sharp, shadowy feathers at his enemies.

- He has heightened senses that allow him to know where a possible attack would come from.

- His aura makes others feel more negative feelings while also feeding off of those negative feelings. It's not very powerful, though, so the person who's being affected by his aura will only feel mildly more negative. If they were in a good mood before, they will only feel like they're not having as good a time as they were before, but still a little bit happy. If they were in a bad mood, they'd feel a bit more unhappy than they were before. He can control his aura slightly, but only when he's awake. He can't turn it off completely, though.

- His wings are stronger and sturdier than they were before he ate the negative apples, so they can be used for fighting in close combat if he needs to, though he does try not to start fights.

- He managed to control his powers after a year, but doesn't want to face his brother. He's extremely afraid of what his brother thinks of him. As much as he misses him, he believes his brother wouldn't want to see him as he is now after everything.

- He's able to turn into a shadow to hide himself, and can travel pretty fast like that, but not as fast as flying.

- He's paranoid when he's near others now, especially in crowds. It reminds him of the villagers too much.

- Can interact with people's nightmares, tries to lessen them slightly if it's too harsh. Understands that nightmares are natural, so he doesn't prevent all nightmares.

- He can't interact with dreams since his aura doesn't allow him to interact with them.

- He has a magic bow and can summon arrows. The arrows are made of a mix of positive and negative, though there's more negative than positive. His bow can change into a sword if he needs it.

Here's Dispirited!Dream, or you can call him Dispir. I had originally named him Fallen!Dream, but I think his new name is better.

Underscape Backstory

- He and Nightmare are both formed with wings, Dream's is golden, Nightmare's is royal purple.

- Dream was constantly being asked by the villagers to come "help" them(really, they were only using him for their benefit). They were manipulating him to do what they wanted when he wanted to leave, either by guilt tripping or just implying that they were going to do something horrible to Nightmare.

- He actually really wants to hang out with his brother more, but because he keeps getting dragged around by the villagers, he can't spend more time with him.

- Knows he's being manipulated, but doesn't tell Nightmare because he's afraid the villagers will hurt him.

- He doesn't know they hurt Nightmare despite him doing what they want to keep them from doing so. He knows they don't like him, but be doesn't know how far their dislike of him goes.(the brothers really should be telling each other about this, but both of them are worried about the consequences for the other)

- He starts feeling resentful towards the villagers, as they slowly became more threatening towards him, even going so far as hitting him if he refused.

- One night, he sneaks over to the side of the Tree where the negative apples are. He doesn't take one(yet), but he is very much tempted to. 'If I ate one of these, they wouldn't want me to come hang out with them, right? But it's not a good idea, it could lead to worse things... but maybe...?'

- After several more days of the villagers getting gradually worse, he finally decides to take the risk of eating a negative apple.

- Nightmare was unaware at the time, he had made a rare trip into the village for a book at the library. He was being bullied by the villagers, but he managed to get through without too much hassle. When he finally returned to the Tree, he saw Dream standing on his side of the tree, looking contemplative. Before he was able to call out to him, the villagers took that time to start hitting him.

- Dream takes a negative apple and takes a bite, but then hears Nightmare yelp in pain. When he turns and looks, he sees Nightmare on the ground clutching his head, with the villagers semi-surrounding him.

- Filled with horror that the villagers have been hurting his brother even while he was trying to keep them from doing so by doing what they wanted, he didn't realize that he was eating more of the apple until it was gone and was reaching for another.

- When Nightmare opened his eyes, he saw Dream eating the negative apple and reaching for another. He called out to Dream, "Dream! Stop, please- ACK!" The villagers kicked him in the ribs, causing him to curl up on himself to try defending himself.

- Dream didn't notice the positive apples turning negative at first, but when he did, he had already eaten four more negative apples. He manages to stop himself from eating more and went to save some of the positive apples. He managed to cut a few from the branches before he started to feel pain from the negativity that was starting to change him. He looked back over to Nightmare and the villagers, only to see them crowding over Nightmare.

- He tried to make his way to them, not having any other thoughts other than to get his brother to safety. The pain he was feeling was starting to be unbearable, but he knew if he didn't do anything, Nightmare would only be more hurt. He managed to get to his brother after pushing the villagers away with surprising strength.

- Nightmare felt his brother's hands holding him, and relaxed. He felt himself being lifted and his brother's wings beating against the ground, pushing them above the crowd of villagers that closed in around them again. When he felt Dream land, he mustered the strength to open his eyes again and try to hug him.

- When he saw Dream, though, he noticed that he was in pain. Dream backed away when he felt a sharp pain throughout his being, and the sound of bones cracking can be heard over Dream's cries of pain. Nightmare tried to get up to try helping Dream, but fell to the side, injuring one of his wings further, as one of the villagers got a good kick on it earlier.

- Dream's wings faded from golden to black, though they still had some golden feathers scattered across them. They also became larger, with another pair of wings bursting from his back below his original wings, but smaller. They were completely black and seemed to have a shadowy texture to them.

- Nightmare was shocked and scared. Not of his brother, but for him. The villagers had followed them to the Tree, but stayed back because of what was happening. Dream, who was lost to pain and fear and suppressed anger at the villagers, turned towards them. He looked back at Nightmare, his expression blank except for his eyes, which seemed to say 'I'm sorry' before turning back to the villagers.

- Dream then attacked them, angry at them for everything they did to him and his brother. Nightmare passed out shortly after, succumbing to the pain, but still tried to call out to Dream.

- Dream wasn't able to control the new power he gained, and couldn't stop himself from killing all the villagers and destroying the village and cutting the Tree down. He had enough control of himself to make sure he didn't hurt Nightmare during it.

- CANON OUTCOME: After all of that, Dream had left the AU, leaving Nightmare behind with the wreckage, but he did manage to heal him a bit. He didn't trust himself not to hurt him, accident or not. Unfortunately, this is where their relationship with each other has crumbled. Nightmare wakes up all alone with the injuries somewhat healed, and sees the ruins of the village and the tree. He sees the positive apples that remained on the ground, and decided he'd hold onto them. Surprisingly, they kept their positive golden color, and he ate one of them as a way of keeping at least one of them safe should the others become tainted somehow. This caused his wings to grow larger and add pure white feathers across his wings, and caused them to slightly glow. It was painful, almost as painful as Dream's transformation, but he didn't gain another pair of wings. He now spends his days trying to track Dream down, determined to reunite with the one person he cares about most. Dream now roams the multiverse, his aura both feeding on the negative feelings of people and amplifying them, though not by a lot. Nightmare's aura feeds on the positive feelings and amplifies those positive feelings as well. It's not as addictive as original Dream's aura, mainly because of him being the negative guardian, it kinda balances it out somewhat, especially since he only ate one positive apple. Same for this Dream's negative aura, it's not as powerful as original Nightmare's aura because he's the positive guardian, also because he didn't eat as many negative apples as him.

- NON-CANON OUTCOME: Dream, after killing the villagers and destroying the village and the Tree in his lack of control over his powers, manages to gain enough control to go and heal Nightmare. He stays in the AU while waiting for Nightmare to wake up, he was unable to sleep, because of his actions and the residual pain that was left over. His back was to Nightmare, though, because he didn't want to see how Nightmare would react to seeing him and what he's done. He believed that Night would be angry at him, that he wouldn't want to be near him anymore because of what he's done. He'd understand why, and leave if that was what he wanted. Nightmare woke up after a couple of hours, and the first thing he saw was a cloudy sky. He sat up and looked around, seeing the destruction of the village and the Tree. He was shocked, maybe a little horrified, especially when he remembered what happened before he passed out. He went to stand up to look for his brother, only to see him sitting a little ways away with him hugging his knees to his chest and head down. "Dream? Are you awake?" Dream sighs, but he doesn't lift his head. "Yeah, I'm awake." He said quietly, not quite whispering. He was waiting for Nightmare to start yelling at him, to hear him say that he can't believe he killed all those people and that he hates him now. Nightmare doesn't think that though, he's worried for him. He can tell Dream isn't taking what happened well, he'll admit that he was also affected by what happened as well. But he just wanted to be near his brother. He walked over to Dream, who tensed when he heard him getting closer. Seeing this, Nightmare almost cried. He didn't want Dream to be afraid of him! He continued getting closer, and when he was right beside him, he slowly moved his arms to give him a hug. Dream wasn't expecting Nightmare to hug him, so when he felt this, he jolted. His wings accidentally hit Nightmare and knocked him back. Dream immediately apologized, but Nightmare also apologized, realizing he might have startled him. It took some reassuring, but Nightmare was able to calm him down. They talked about everything they kept from each other and the reasons why Dream ate the negative apples. After a lot of talking and hugging, Dream decided to bring his brother somewhere else so they don't have to live near the now destroyed village. Nightmare decides he's going to keep the few positive apples that were left with him, and Dream knew he must not touch them because he might turn them negative as he is now. Dream found a negative apple that survived, and holds onto it, with the intention of planting it with one of the positive apples Nightmare has somewhere safe. They both travel the multiverse to find a new home, and also explore new things.

It seems my strategy of switching from traditional to digital art worked, I'm back on drawing. Finished drawing part of the second part of your request. I'll show it when I finish the rest and make the refs for it. Flighteningverse bois on the way! Specifically Horror, Dust, and Killer. Wooo!

I'm glad you like them! I think you can guess what I'm working on now, that second part of your requests. They'll also be their official refs. I am planning on drawing Horror with little tufts of feathers on his back, showing that his wings are growing in. And since it's been a while between the group joining Sanguine, the other two haven't started growing wings yet. I am going to draw them all with their full-grown wings and features at some point, but this is the start of it. I will eventually draw FV!Geno and his damaged wings.

Oh yay! I'm excited to see them when you're done!! Seeing stuff for Flighteningverse is always a treat!

I'm working on the Kings and KV!Cross. I had to readjust the lineart for Cross a bit... I honestly almost want to redo it, but I've put off finishing it for so long and I've finally gotten an idea of what I want the colors to look like. I think I'll redo his design some time in the future, but for now it's satisfactory. (Once I color it at least)

I need to add some stuff to Dream's initial sketch, and Nightmare is almost ready for lineart. So much stuff to do, so little time >w<
