Summary: Finn's R P.E. Vignette, in which he falls from his broom and gets a concussion. 1k+

Falling
There were a number of things on land Finn had never experienced before. Fire, walking, spices, fruit flying, et cetera. They were odd, alien, but not exactly uninjoyable.
One sensation Finn had never experienced, apart when he tripped, but that didn't really count, was falling.
Well, he was falling now, and, quite frankly, he was not fond of the experience. In fact, it was quite terrifying.
Finn silently cursed himself for being so overconfident in his own abilities. Really, if he had thought to account for turbulence, he wouldn't have wind striking past his face and bringing tears to his eyes as the ground grew startlingly close startlingly fast.
It wasn't long until the bright blue of the sky was obscured by a great expanse of green, and he covered his face and braced for impact.
Finn collided with the ground with a resonant 'crack', tumbling until he came to a stop on his back. Pain spiked through every part of his body, and his mouth tasted like iron. He blinked up at the sky, stars completely blurring his vision. He was vaguely aware of the sensation of something sticky and warm at the back of his head.
He could hear someone shouting, but the loud ringing in hus ears drowned out the words. A gaggle of students began to crowd around him, faces blurry and words incomprehensible.
...Oh. Someone was... calling his name. Was that Jade? He was pretty sure it was. But they weren't in the same class, so wh- oh, right, joint period.
Jade sounded worried. Azul did, too. ...Azul was here? Of course he was. They were in the same class.
Groaning, Finn propped himself up on his elbows and tried to squint through the stars dancing along his vision. Azul and Jade sort of came into focus, blurry as they were.
"Finn," Jade's voice worked its way through the incessant ringing, though it was muffled and distant. "Finn, how many fingers am I holding up?"
"...Huh?"
"How many fingers am I holding up?"
Finn squinted at Jade's hand, wondering why he would ask such an odd question.
"T-Three?" He slurred. It was difficult to focus. His head hurt. It hurt so badly...
"Finn, try following my finger for me, okay?"
Finn was pretty sure Jade was still holding up three fingers, but he obeyed nonetheless. It was hard... his head felt like it was being crushed...
"He's concussed." Jade declared, and Azul made a very displeased noise.
"Hey, hey, hey, back on your brooms! This isn't a holiday!" Vargas boomed, striding up to squint at Finn. "Especially you two, Leech and Ashengrotto. Your flying is atrocious. Leave Clearcove. He'll be fine."
Azul frowned. "But sir, he's concu-"
"I'll get somebody to take to the infirmary. Get moving, sprout!"
Azul sighed and muttered an annoyed "yes sir," then nodded at Finn.
"I'll see you later." He said, even though Finn couldn't really process his words, and wandered over to Jade and the brooms.
"Rosehearts!" Vargas called, gazing up at the sky. "Take Clearcove to the infirmary!"
Riddle, still in the air, nodded his head and lowered himself to the ground, and got off his broom.
"Yes, sir." The redhead said, looking Finn over with an arched brow. "Alright, Finn, I'm going to pull you up so you can stand. Can you handle that?"
Finn nodded his head. "Mm... yeah."
Riddle leaned down and took hold of Finn's hands, gripping them tightly. Then he pulled, wincing at the effort. Finn was smaller than him, but he was far from light, and the lack of resistance as Riddle pulled him upright nearly made the redhead fall over.
Finn wobbled, leaning against Riddle for balance as stars continued to dance in his eyes.
"Wow." He blurted. He moved his hand to touch the back of his head, biting his lip when he pulled away to see blood coating his fingertips. "Oh dear."
Riddle's eyes widened at the sight of the sticky red substance, and he tugged at Finn's hand in alarm.
"Finn, come. It's quite a walk to the infirmary, and you need to see the nurse now."
Finn nodded his head. His legs shook, but he managed to let go of Riddle and keep himself upright. "Okay."
They made their way across the warm grass of the field, Riddle speedwalking and Finn stumbling, then across the main grounds and into the building. When they got to the stairs that would take them to the hall in which the infirmary resided, Riddle stopped to evaluate if Finn was in alright to ascend them.
To his surprise, Finn simply continued forward, marching up the stairs like a shark on a mission. Riddle hurried after him, looking him over to ensure he didn't suddenly fall over backwards, but Finn remained mostly steady.
"Isn't that painful?" Riddle asked after a moment. Falling from a broom caused pain everywhere, after all.
"Incredibly... sssso," Finn responded, an uncharacteristic chuckle leaving his lips. His voice was slow and groggy, his words slurring. "It's... ex...cruciating.."
And yet, aside from his wobbly gait, he didn't look like he was in any pain at all. Riddle wondered if the fall knocked something loose.
It was only when they arrived at the infirmary, much sooner than Riddle expected, too, that Finn stumbled and nearly fell flat on his face.
"Dizzy." The shark hissed, grabbing onto the doorframe to right himself.
Riddle sighed and took him by the arms to lead him down one of the beds. Once Finn was seated, he leaned down to look him in the eyes.
"How dizzy do you feel?" He asked, speaking slowly and clearly so Finn could understand him.
Finn opened his mouth to respond, then closed it again and blinked at Riddle. "Sssorry, I.. I forgot what you just... asked me."
"It's fine. How dizzy do you feel?"
"...Spinning." Finn slurred after a brief pause. "Feels like I'm gonna... faint."
"Alright, hold still." Riddle took his pen in hand and gently tapped it against Finn's head, murmuring something Finn couldn't hear.
Suddenly , the cloud of dizziness blanketing Finn's mind lifted. He stared at Riddle, eyes wide with surprise.
"What... sort of spell is -"
"My mother is a doctor." Riddle explained, tucking his pen away. "A specialised mage, to be specific. I was prone to dizzy spells as a child, so she taught me this to alleviate them so I could continue my studies without issue."
Riddle faltered, his slate grey eyes peering into Finn's amtheyst ones intensely for a moment. "I... could teach you if you want. I've noticed you get dizzy during the summer."
Finn blinked at Riddle, astounded. The suggestion filled him with an unexpected warmth, but beyond the ringing in his ears was a distant echo of 'debt'.
"Only.. if I... teach you something in return." Finn mumbled, wincing at a sudden spike of pain in his skull. "I know a lot of things... you don't... Rosehearts."
Riddle couldn't help but roll his eyes. "Typical Octavinelle student." He wanted to say, but he held his tongue in fear of Finn rescinding his offer.
Finn knows a lot of things that he, Riddle Rosehearts, doesn't know? What a bold claim. Even if Riddle had not yet mastered them all, he knew of all known kinds of magic on record. Perhaps Finn's concussion was even worse than he originally thought. Where was the nurse?
However, even if there was a possibility that Finn was babbling nonsense due to falling from the sky, Riddle was endlessly curious and hoped Finn was serious. There was no such thing as learning too much, after all.
"I'll hold you to that when you're better." Riddle warned. "You better not disappoint me."
"I won't." Finn mumbled. Then he furrowed his brows. "Can... you bring Jade... 'n Zul up here?"
Riddle blinked. "Why..?" Damn it, where the hell was the nurse?
"I want to... to see them." Finn mumbled. "Want them here."
Riddle sighed. "Finn, they have P.E. now and more classes after that. I cannot interrupt their schooling."
Finn's brows scrunched, and his mouth dipped downwards. Amthyst eyes seemed to lose their shine. "...Ok."
Was he... was he pouting? Riddle could hardly believe his eyes. Finn Clearcove was pouting at him because he wouldn't bring his dorm leader and vice dorm leader away from class to see him.
Before Riddle could tell him to just be patient, the door opened, and the nurse stepped in, doughnut in hand, and stared at them in surpise.
"Oh... hello."

Riddle's steps were hurried as he made his way back to the field so he could continue with his lesson. To his annoyance, the period had already ended, and students were packing up their brooms and returning to the main building to get changed.
Riddle bit back a curse and trudged over to where he had left his things. As he gathered them, he glanced to his left and tried not to laugh when he saw Jade and Azul nearby.
Truly, it was a sorry sight. Jade was leaning against the tree, flushed red, and chugging down water by the gallon as if he were dying of thirst. Azul lay sprawled on the ground under said tree, staring up at the sky as if he wished for it to strike him down.
When they noticed Riddle, though, both of them were up and in front of him in a flash, staring at him expectantly.
Riddle huffed and rolled his eyes.
"Finn's fine, for the most part." He said. "He has a bad concussion, but it won't have any long-lasting effects. He needs rest and no more physical activities for the next few days. And please, keep him off his phone and from socialising too much until he's better. I doubt he'll mind that, though."
"Oh..." Jade let out a breath. "That's good, I suppose. He doesn't like being cooped up, though..."
"Well, he'll have to suck it up so he can recover as soon as possible." Azul said matter-of-factly. "My main source of information... out of commission! Oh, how terrible..."
Riddle raised an eyebrow but avoided making any comments. "He wants to see you two, but he'll have to wait until classes are over for the day. I'm sure the nurse won't mind letting his friends see him."
There was a brief pause. Azul put his hands on his hips and frowned at Riddle.
"I'm afraid you're mistaken, Riddle-san." He said sternly. "We are not friends. We're business partners. We mutually benefit from one another."
Riddle sent him a disbelieving stare. "Sure." He said, internally wondering who would be asking to see his "business partners" while delirious from a concussion.
"Anyway, you need to ensure your student is cared for, Azul. Oh, and be sure to remind him of our agreement.
"Agreement?" Azul questioned, perplexed.
Riddle nodded, smirking. "I'm teaching him a spell. He insisted he teach me something in return and told me he knew something I won't know. I do hope that's true, I'm excited to learn something new. I-"
He hesitated when he saw Azul's expression. The octopus was seemingly frozen in shock.
"Azul..?"
"Oh." Jade grinned. "Here we go."
"Why is he teaching Riddle abyss spells when he won't even consider teaching me?!'

I wasnt clever enough to think of an idea so I looked at prompts on Tumblr and found this "It's so dark now, but I used to be afraid of the dark." I think it would be an interesting prompt to do for a dying Sylvanas in Jaina's arms. If not no worries! I hope recover from your writers block soon!
Anon, I adored this prompt so much that I went a little overboard with it. I hope you enjoy and sorry for the sad ending 😬
This takes place in the future during the expansion of Midnight.

Twisted creatures of the void poured from portals onto the landscape of Quel’Thalas. Surrounding them were incarnations of nightmares, mountains of blighted flesh, and writhing tentacles, spreading like cancers across the land.
Sylvanas stood above the battlefield, bow drawn and ready to fire. She faltered momentarily. The enemies before her transformed into an undead swarm. Suddenly, she was alive again, standing in a field of yellow tulips.
Closing her eyes, Sylvanas steadied herself. When she opened them again, she saw the autumnal leaves of a place she once called home and a battlefield stained with the blood of the void.
Sylvanas frowned as she lifted her bow, taking aim. Her arrow struck a voidwalker straight in the eye. The creature howled in pain, struggling to dislodge the arrow, but before it could, another arrow pierced its chest.
Sylvanas smirked as her arrow hit its mark. “I believe that makes a hundred for me.”
A voice chuckled beside her. “Some of us aren’t infused with death magic and need rest,” Jaina joked, slightly out of breath as she unleashed a blizzard upon the void.
“Already tired, little mage? We’ve only just begun.”
“You wish, Windrunner.”
Sylvanas watched as Vereesa and Alleria exchanged glances. Vereesa hesitated, her mouth dropping slightly, while Alleria rolled her eyes and continued unleashing arrows.
Since Sylvanas returned from the Maw with Jaina escorting her, Vereesa relentlessly questioned her about their relationship. Although Sylvanas and Jaina shared a secret bond, she wasn’t ready to face the subsequent annoyance once Vereesa discovered the truth.
Perhaps once this battle was over, Sylvanas would tell Vereesa about all the ways Jaina had helped her heal in the Maw.
Well, maybe not all the ways, Sylvanas thought, glancing at Jaina as she wielded her magic with such grace it seemed like an extension of her very being.
“Do I need to remind you, Sylvanas, that we’re in the middle of a battle?” Alleria said sternly.
“And how many kills have you gotten?” Sylvanas jested.
Alleria huffed, then steadied her bow, surveying the battlefield below. “This isn’t working. We must take down the portals, or this battle might never end.”
“Agreed. It seems Xal’atath wanted to put on a whole show for you, sister,” Sylvanas joked. She knew it was a cheap shot but couldn’t resist getting under her sister’s skin.
As Sylvanas was too busy laughing at herself and preparing to aim, she felt a sharp tug at her ear. Wincing in pain, she lost her concentration and accidentally released her arrow, sending it off course and missing her target entirely.
Sylvanas turned towards Alleria, nostrils flaring, ready to retaliate.
“It looks like you missed. Are you starting to get tired?” Jaina said with a sultry tone.
“I never miss,” Sylvanas teased with a wink, noting the faint blush beginning to bloom on Jaina’s cheeks.
“Belore,” Alleria murmured, pinching the bridge of her nose. “Regent Lord, a word, please!”
Lor’themar approached them slowly with Liadrin at his side. Thalyssra followed behind, carrying a stool and positioning it behind Lor’themar so he could sit down.
When Sylvanas returned from the Maw, Azeroth, and its people had changed. It was evident in the aging Lor’themar, who walked stiffly as if his joints hurt. Every time Sylvanas looked at Alleria, she was reminded of her mother and the last time Sylvanas saw her alive.
“Yes, Alleria?” Lor’themar asked.
“We need reinforcements to deal with the portals summoned by the void revenants,” Alleria explained. “We must eliminate those vile creatures, or we’ll be overwhelmed quickly.”
Lor’themar paused momentarily before saying, “I trust you to make the right decision for our people.”
Alleria nodded quietly, then turned back towards them with a determined stance that made Sylvanas wonder if she could have saved their people from the Lich King’s slaughter.
“There are three portals: north, west, and east,” Alleria said, pointing to the distant portals. “Liadrin, take your blood knights to the western portal. Vereesa, lead the Silver Covenant against the eastern portal.”
Liadrin and Vereesa nodded with a salute before moving to assemble their troops and head toward their designated locations.
“And what about the northern portal?” Sylvanas asked Alleria.
“The northern portal is the farthest away. Jaina, I need you to teleport yourself, Sylvanas, and the dark rangers as close to the portal as possible. Can you manage that?” Alleria asked, turning to Jaina.
Jaina squinted at the portal on the edge of the forest. “I think I can manage that,” she replied.
“Rangers to me!” Sylvanas shouted.
Dark rangers materialized beside their former queen as if from thin air. Velonara, the group leader, stepped forward before Sylvanas, ready for orders.
“Yes, Dark Lady?” Velonara asked.
Sylvanas narrowed her eyes, realizing that old habits were hard to break. “We’re heading deep into the battlefield. Lady Proudmoore will teleport us to a portal. Our task is to destroy the revenants controlling it.”
The dark rangers took their positions. Before Jaina cast the spell, she carefully grasped Sylvanas’ hand and gave it a quick squeeze.
Sylvanas looked down with a smile and squeezed back. Once this was all over, perhaps she could retire. Maybe she and Jaina could spend their days restoring the Spire and enjoy simpler lives.
Reluctantly, Jaina released her hand to start casting the teleportation spell. Instantly, a flash of light encircled the group, and they were teleported.
They arrived near the portal, but they were not alone. Massive, armor-plated voidlords prowled around them, ready to strike.
“Take them down!” Sylvanas shouted.
The dark rangers followed orders, firing arrows at the colossal creatures. Meanwhile, Jaina started casting a flurry of ice.
Sylvanas drove her dagger into the advancing voidlord, releasing a swirl of shadow magic as she withdrew the blade. The voidlord lunged at her again, but Sylvanas swiftly pierced it between the eyes. It crumpled to the ground, lifeless.
“Sylvanas! There’s an opening to the portal. I can slip through while the dark rangers keep them occupied,” Jaina hissed.
Sylvanas swiftly assessed the situation. The dark rangers were effectively dealing with the voidlords. Even though she knew Jaina was far from a fragile mage, Sylvanas disliked the idea of her venturing alone and unprotected.
“Velonara!” Sylvanas shouted. Velonara glanced her way as she fired an arrow into another voidlord. “Jaina and I will move toward the portal. You need to take out any voidlords that come our way.”
“What about the revenant guarding the portal?” Velonara questioned.
“I’ll handle that foul beast,” Sylvanas said.
Velonara nodded and shouted orders to the dark rangers.
Though Velonara had always been a lone wolf within their order, she was a natural leader. The dark rangers had made a wise choice in selecting her. Sylvanas was pleased to see someone so headstrong step into her role. She hoped that her darkfallen sisters would forgive her for abandoning them someday.
Sylvanas and Jaina raced toward the massive portal, pulsating with purple void energy. Sylvanas extended her hand, halting Jaina from rushing directly to it.
Jaina gave her a puzzled look. “What are we waiting for?”
“The revenant… it’s missing,” Sylvanas whispered.
Before either could speak further, a massive shadow loomed over them. Sylvanas and Jaina turned to find a colossal void revenant clad in silver armor towering above them.
Before they could react, the revenant swung its massive arm, hurling them through the air. As they fell, Sylvanas felt a sudden lightness in her body and realized she was descending slowly. Jaina had cast a spell to cushion their fall and prevent them from crashing into the ground.
When they hit the ground, further from the portal, Sylvanas drew an arrow and fired at the revenant, but the shot barely left a mark.
“Tides! How are we supposed to kill this thing?!” Jaina shouted.
The revenant advanced in a furious rage. Sylvanas glanced at Jaina, who stared back with wide, fearful eyes.
“Stick to the plan,” Sylvanas whispered, then lifted her bow, aiming to draw the revenant closer. As she released the arrow, striking its helm, she gestured urgently for Jaina to move. Jaina hesitated, and Sylvanas called out, “Jaina, go!”
“Please stay safe. I want to celebrate with you afterward,” Jaina said, her voice tinged with nervousness.
Sylvanas had no time to react as the revenant closed in. The human had already vanished from sight, but Sylvanas still shouted at Jaina to leave.
“Come here, you ugly bastard,” Sylvanas hissed, and the revenant roared in response, taking the bait.
Sylvanas drew the dagger from her belt and drove it into the revenant’s arm. It hissed in pain as shadowy energy seeped from the wound.
However, the victory was fleeting, fueling the revenant’s fury further. It emitted a bloodcurdling screech as its skin writhed into a mass of tentacles, and its eyes blazed with seething purple energy. Sylvanas cursed as the creature began to swell in size.
The revenant’s thrashing tentacles struck Sylvanas, making her drop her dagger. Despite this, she narrowly evaded the remaining blows and managed to weave out of the way. Quickly recovering, she reached for her bow.
The sharp crack of Sylvanas’s bowstring sent an arrow streaking toward the void creature. The arrow whistled through the air, targeting the revenant’s weak points. But with a clash of metal, the revenant’s razor-sharp claw intercepted the arrow, knocking it away. The revenant then charged directly at Sylvanas.
Sylvanas cursed under her breath. The revenant wasn’t going down easily.
As the revenant charged toward her, it abruptly stopped. Sylvanas watched it closely, gripping an arrow and preparing for her next move.
Slowly, the revenant turned its head toward the portal, grunting in irritation before ignoring Sylvanas and heading straight for the portal.
Sylvanas glanced urgently at the portal and saw Jaina trying to close it. The revenant was charging directly toward her.
“No!” Sylvanas gasped, then sprinted with all her might toward Jaina.
Jaina turned in terror as the revenant charged toward her, caught between the urgent need to close the portal and to defend herself.
The revenant swung its tentacle toward Jaina, its tip sharp and blade-like, aimed directly at her heart. Sylvanas felt her stomach drop.
“Jaina!” Sylvanas cried out as she forced herself to move faster.
Everything seemed to move in slow motion. Just as the bladed tentacle was about to hit Jaina, Sylvanas threw herself in front of her. She felt a searing pain pierce her soul and then collapsed to the ground.
Sylvanas lay in the dirt, gazing up at the same sky she had looked at years ago when a sword had pierced her chest. She found herself wanting to laugh at the bitter irony of it all.
Sylvanas heard a distant scream and felt an ice lance whiz past her head, followed by a heavy thud on the ground beside her.
As the portal closed nearby, Sylvanas managed to smile despite the blood now pouring from her mouth. Jaina had succeeded.
“Sylvanas! No, no, no…” Jaina cried out in anguish.
Jaina knelt and gently cradled Sylvanas in her arms, tears streaming down her face as she brushed away the hair from Sylvanas’s face. Then, with a flash of magic, Jaina teleported them both away.
Jaina cried as she held Sylvanas, more inky blood spilling from her. The sound of shouting started around her, and she could hear the weight of Vereesa’s tears in the commotion.
Everything around Sylvanas felt dim and hazy, as if she were drifting through a dream. Perhaps it was all just a dream, and she would soon wake up with Jaina beside her, warm in bed, holding each other. She’d tell Jaina about this strange dream, and they would laugh and kiss, with Jaina making everything better—as she always did.
“What happened!?” Vereesa screamed. She bent over Sylvanas, touching her gently while trembling and staring at the oozing wound.
“The revenant struck her,” Jaina cried, turning to Liadrin. “Please, you have to save her. Please!”
Before Liadrin could step closer to examine her wounds, Sylvanas slowly lifted her hand to gently touch Jaina’s face. A sob escaped Jaina as she grasped Sylvanas’s hand and kissed it tenderly.
“You promised me,” Jaina whispered.
“Forgive me, little mage,” Sylvanas said, her attempt at a smile faint and weary.
Sylvanas should have felt anger over the brief time she and Jaina had together or rage at dying once more in the fields of Quel’Thalas. Instead, she found a sense of calmness.
As Sylvanas glanced around, she accepted her fate with peace, knowing that her homeland would be protected at all costs. Her people would endure and fight another day, as they had so many times before.
Sylvanas felt a touch on her leg as Alleria joined Vereesa and Jaina on the ground. She smiled weakly at her sister, reassured that Alleria would be strong for Jaina and Vereesa. Jaina would be in good hands with her sisters.
“Sylvanas, I’m so sorry,” Vereesa gasped between sobs.
“Hush, Little Moon,” Sylvanas said, reaching for Vereesa and Alleria. “I forgive both of you. I need you to forgive yourselves. May your arrows fly straight upon the wind.”
Vereesa kissed Sylvanas’ cheek while Alleria gently squeezed her leg. Sylvanas noticed the glistening tears forming in the corners of Alleria’s eyes.
Sylvanas turned to Jaina, whose deep blue eyes were brimming with tears and whose nose was a red mess. Jaina held Sylvanas’s hand against her cheek, her grief palpable.
“Please don’t go, please!” Jaina wailed.
“My Jaina,” Sylvanas whispered, gently brushing her finger against Jaina’s lips. “I will always be with you. And when you’re old and gray, I’ll be waiting for you in the Shadowlands, and we’ll have all eternity together.”
Jaina threw herself onto Sylvanas, sobbing uncontrollably. “No! I won’t allow this! You’ve suffered enough!”
“Jaina…” Sylvanas hissed in pain as the darkness began to encroach upon her. Jaina lifted her head to look at her. “It’s getting so dark now. I used to fear the dark, but now I don’t anymore.”
Sylvanas never imagined she would come to terms with not fearing death after everything she had endured. Yet now, despite the pain it might cause Jaina, she was ready to let go. She yearned to be embraced by her parents and see her little brother again.
Gradually, the sounds around Sylvanas grew faint until they disappeared completely. Her vision dimmed, and darkness enveloped her mind. The pain vanished, and Sylvanas felt a profound sense of peace, as fresh and pure as a newborn babe.

Decades had passed, and Sylvanas awaited her love. When Jaina finally arrived in the realm of death, she appeared just as she had before the bombing, with her golden hair shining brightly.
As Jaina approached Sylvanas, she could barely recognize her. Sylvanas appeared as she had when she was Ranger General, no longer a twisted creature of death. She was simply Sylvanas.
Jaina rushed toward her, and Sylvanas greeted her with open arms. They collided into a tight embrace, both shedding tears for the years lost between them.
Sylvanas cradled Jaina’s tear-streaked face in her hands. “I missed you, little mage.”
