Happy Birthday, Yuuri!

To commemorate the birthday of our precious Katsudon, I would love to share with you this uplifting and light-hearted one-shot:

Summary: After another failed attempt at qualifying for the Grand Prix Final, Yuuri returns to Detroit on his birthday, defeated, disheartened, and determined to quit skating. All he wants is to mourn his missed chance to skate on the same ice as his long-time crush and idol in peace. But his roommate Phichit has different plans. Because a defeat is no reason to give up on your greatest dream.

Excerpt:

Yuuri sighed. The tears that had lurked in the corners of his eyes ever since his disastrous free skate two days ago welled up. “I will never make it to an international podium. I wanted to skate at the same level as Viktor, to stand on the podium with him. I wanted to win a gold medal for Japan. Just once. But I can’t see it ever happening.”

Phichit picked Taeng from his shoulder and handed the tiny fur ball to Yuuri. “But you’re getting there, Yuuri! You made it into the last group! You achieved a new personal best!”

I achieved this personal best with a higher base score and good programme component scores, but this can compensate for the flubbed jumps only so much. Other skaters are just better than me. It’s better to quit before my inaptitude destroys my last chance to impress Viktor.

“I was lucky because two skaters missed their jump combination,” Yuuri said, cupping the tiny hamster.

“See? Every skater has good and bad performances! That’s life! Just keep going, Yuuri! Viktor Nikiforov would never give up!”

Viktor Nikiforov is a natural and a genius. He’s never been in a situation where he thought about giving up.

“Yuuri.” Phichit patted Yuuri’s leg wearing a broad grin. “I’ve got you a gift that will cheer you up and keep the dream alive.” He pulled a long object enveloped in hearts-and-balloons wrapping paper from under Yuuri’s bed, “There you go!”

“Um, Phichit-kun.” Warmth spread inside Yuuri. He released Taeng on the comforter. ”You shouldn’t have.”

Phichit’s brown eyes shone with sincerity. “You’re my best friend, Yuuri. You helped me when I came here last year. You helped me build a labyrinth for my hamsters. Of course, I’ve got you a gift.” He pressed the huge, squishy object into Yuuri’s arms.

“Um, what is this? This feels either like a sleeping bag or a corpse wrapped into a rug.”

His friend’s laughter filled the small room. “Yuuri!” he exclaimed. “You’re almost right! You can take it with you to bed and there’s someone inside.” He picked up another hamster from the floor—Pensri, and set her on his shoulder. “So, it’s basically someone to sleep with.”

What? This was so typical for Phichit. I shouldn’t have told him I never had a relationship.

“If this is an inflatable doll, Phichit-kun…”

In the almost 4 years since I've discoverd Yuri!!! On Ice, Yuuri has given me so much. Because of of him, I was able to overcome my anxiety issues and figure out the last of my queer labels. Thank you for existing 💙❄⛸

Victor Zsasz Going Ice Skating with You (Fluffy Humour) ⛸

Author's note: Am I right about him? I think I am.😁 Reader: gender-neutral (no pronouns)

Victor's such a pro, don't ask why. He's that crazy fast person on the ice, who still manages not to crash into anyone while making multiple turns and dashing backwards.

An absolutely badass figure skating partner as well. If you're not quite so steady, he offers you his hand and leads you across the ice safely, holding you as if bringing you out of balance could trigger a bomb.

With music, the skating may very well turn into dancing, slow or quick depending on your abilities.

If you're not so smooth on ice, Victor's totally okay with it, choppy movements work just as well, who said anything against that? Certainly not the person who threw you one quick maybe slightly judging look, they've fled from the ice at his equally cold stare.

Tumbling over in laughter, you watch your boyfriend struggling to keep his balance on the ice rink.

Gavi thought it would be a nice date to go to the local ice rink for a date, the two of you skating all day and then ending it with some warm food and hot cocoa.

"Come on bebe, skate over to me" you taunt him , a teasing smile resting on your lips.

Pablo glares at you, silently cursing himself for coming up with this idea. The boy makes grabby hands at you, slowly making his way over to you.

Gently you take his hands into yours, giggling when he slightly looses his footing.

"Shut up. It's not my fault you're a pro at ice skating" he whines, making you smile at him.

"You shut up this was you-" but you are quickly silenced by a fierce kiss that almost makes Pablo tumble over. You laugh into the kiss, currently enjoy two of the most important things in your life.

I was gonna ask this anonymously but I just need you to know how much your On Thin Ice AU means to me. I first found you on instagram and I have lived for every update of these two. I have watched dozens of clips of figure skating galas because of them. I was into figure skating as a hobby before this, but this AU specifically inspired me to put in nearly 40 hours of ice time between this past December-February. I have skated my blades until they are utterly dull. It is my new goal to one day do the cantilever Crowley pulls off in one of your earlier drawings, where his hands are almost fully on the ice behind him. Just, thank you so so much for sharing your art with the fandom!! I cannot wait until you get around to updating your fic for this AU, but the first chapter is amazinggg. I love the dynamic you have set up between Crowley and Aziraphale (and am Totally NOT Jealous (/s) of Aziraphale having been into competitive ballroom dancing in high school [another hobby I need to add to my collection of hobbies, one day] )

oh gosh, i basically cried reading this… thank you so much for this lovely ask. every time i find out OTI has inspired someone to get on the ice i’m just… floored. i’ve put a lot of love into it and it makes me so happy to see it loved back. i started this AU because i’ve always enjoyed figure skating, mainly as a spectator because i never had access to rinks growing up. now i do and i’m taking classes! and it’s really putting things into perspective for me too, giving me a lot of good food for fic writing. 👀 speaking of which, chapter 2 is basically done and is coming soon™️ and i hope you like it! i have A LOT planned for these boys and i’m so looking forward to sharing it

Grace’s debut novel brings the heat! 

“Icebreaker” alternates between the perspectives of Anastasia (Stassie) Allen and Nathan Hawkins, who are both very competitive when it comes to their respective sports on the ice (figure skating and hockey). Reading from the viewpoints of both characters allowed me to occupy their minds and truly discover when they stopped seeing each other as enemies and instead as lovers. 

Receiving such intimate access to their thoughts also allows the reader to fully realize the extent of the struggles that the characters grapple with. For instance, Stassie struggles with an eating disorder stemming from a diet imposed upon her by her toxic pairs skating partner. Her partner’s behavior negatively impacts her mental health, but she does not suffer in silence. Instead, she raises awareness for readers and becomes a mental health advocate by actively attending therapy sessions, being vocal about how she is feeling, and asking for help when she needs it. I appreciate Grace for handling such sensitive subject matters with care and providing accurate representation for readers. 

Another aspect of the novel I enjoyed is how Stassie’s stubborn and determined nature perfectly compliments Nathan fun-loving spirit, making them the ultimate comfort couple! They support each other, want each other to succeed, and would do anything to make each other happy. I could practically feel their chemistry radiating off the page, which made it all the harder to recover from their absence after reading the final page. 

My only word of caution to those reading this review is to not be deceived by the discreet cover… its contents are steamy. The mature scenes were a bit too numerous for my tastes, but that did not stop Stassie and Nathan from getting my heart in a chokehold!

Oswald Cobblepot Going Ice Skating with You (Fluff ⛸🐧🧊)

Even just putting a shoe on his injured foot is impossible.

However, he's content to watch you glide across the ice, whether that be with a warm beverage in his hand or by walking around the side fence to stay close to you. Ozzie is entranced by you - even if you aren't good at ice skating.

As much as he'd love just the sight of you, he might still try to move on the ice as well, probably by wearing a proper ice skating shoe on his better food, and by wearing slightly high heels on the other for his feet to be at the same height.

Ice skating is still something he has to re-learn after not having done it for a long time. Oswald has very happy memories of it: Gertrude loved everything to do with music and dance, so she also loved the elegant movements that can be made on the ice.

Despite his safety precautions, he doesn't have the illusion of complete safety: he needs something to hold onto, preferably not you, because he'd prefer not to make you fall.

Now comes the thing: if you've ever gone ice skating, you might have seen certain mobility aids: the penguins. The figures with two handles that are often big enough that adults can use them. Yep. Oswald might not limp on the ice but he won't get rid of the penguin-coding 😄 Here's a picture for reference:

Despite the probably somber and not at all sparkly ambience of Gotham, you two have a great time. Managing to move across the ice might be a challenge, but it's one most welcome for someone whose challenges are usually of the deadly sort. It's also cold, which means that there will be lots of cuddles afterwards 🥰.
