Ik the new Disney princess is going to have me wanting to bang my head against the wall
#like her being spanish is making my head hurt#because people are tryng to justify it by being historically incorrect#aka 'oh al andalus was african-ruled for 8 centuries so it makes sense that she's black'#like honey no al andalus was ruled by the ancestors of current spanish people#the rulers specifically were really pale because they were children of basque slaves#the last andalusi monarch was blond and blue-eyed and so were many of the most important andalusi monarchs#there were more Slavic people in al andalus than black people#ffs the princess can be black it's fantasy but don't use a falsified version of history to justify that choice lol#and this isn't to say the movie can't be beautiful but it clearly lacks the cultural rigour and care disney used for their more recent works
