Firebreathers Character Introduction (3/?):
Iceberg Corona
"I saw you across the field and wanted to meet you.”
Basic Info:
Pansexual Questioning; He/Him 21 Ehlf; Flesh Mage
Referential Info:
Hogwarts house: Hufflepuff D&D class: Paladin; Oath of the Ancients Radiant order: Lightweaver Allomantic ability: Copper A:TLA bender: Water
Brief Overview:
Going to school in the best military academy in the nation, in constant reach of the Divine King, and the official heir of the Corona family, Iceberg used to be considered a poster-boy of the Ehlven Nobility.
Then his father started getting vocal about the injustices he was witnessing, and his entire close family was banished from the capital.
Now, he’s constantly on the lookout for assassins, doing his best to follow the directions of the Firebreathers, and struggling to adjust to the bustle of the port city, Aree.
Perceptions:
“I didn’t think you’d actually talk to me.”
How strangers see him:
The happy bounce to his sign makes me smile despite the slight, awkward tension in the air.
“He looks like that new girl, what was her name?”
How family sees him:
“He’s just socially awkward, which I think we already knew.”
We had to face that hell together; there’s no way we’re not facing this one side-by-side, too.
A disappointment to the family line, just like his father.
How friends see him:
Goddesses, he’s a dork.
“He’s tall, attractive, and goofy. It’s no wonder [Ember] likes him.”
“[Iceberg’s] just an absolute sweet heart.”
How he sees himself:
I was sheltered, and I’m not sure how much that’s affected everything about me. Hopefully, I’m not as much of an ass as I think I am.
“I’ve... never been around any of this before. Not the way [Ember, Gabbro, and Nimbus] have.”
Skills:
“I went to the Military Academy of Impalfahr. Top of my class, but I think my name had more influence than my actual ability.”
Adept:
Military strategy First aid Drawing Lying
Decent:
Dealing with Nobility Horseback riding Climbing Fencing
Terrible:
Maintaining conversation Dancing Stealth Staying calm

Excerpt:
After a few minutes, I break the tension with a question that’s been bouncing in my head for a while. “So, your family’s Noble, right?” He nods. “Were you, like, in line for anything? Like, to be a Citylord?”
He makes a face, tilting his head to the side, as if he’s trying once again to figure out how to word things. Starts hesitantly signing. “Kind of? Not to be a Citylord, but to be the General. Or an Adviser, depending on which opened up first.”
“Opened up?” I glance at him. "You mean, if someone died?"
He nods. "My Grandmother is the General. She doesn't want father to get that title, though.”
Shit. I didn't realize he was that Corona. Or, at least, that he was that closely related.
I stare at him for a moment, then shake my head. “Why did your dad rebel? Isn't your entire family line devoted to Evergreen?”
He lets out a silent laugh. “Like father said, he's a self-important asshole. He never even tried to keep my father from investigating shit on his own."
“He sounds like an idiot.”
A shrug. “That’s the thing, though. He’s not. He's got every other Noble family wrapped around his finger, refusing to question a thing.”
I nod, and we pause for a moment. “... Does he really look as young as the pictures?”
He nods, and his sign becomes slower, as he thinks over his words more. “It really throws you for a loop when you hear about all the shit he’s done, you know? Like, here’s this man who’s been alive for a thousand years, made life hell for thousands of Dark Mages, controls the press, and refuses to make good on his promises, and you walk up to the throne and see a nineteen-year-old kid sitting there like he’s a god. And almost everyone thinks he is, or at least, that he’s on the same level.”
Aesthetics:
"This is not how the world should work."

Brief Overview:
Since all parental support disappeared midway through high school, Nimbus has had to adjust to caring for his younger siblings with his twin, Ember. Luckily, he’s been able to find consistent solace in the Workshop, buried among wires and lights. And if he’s being honest, Nimbus doesn’t want to risk his apprenticeship by joining the rebellion.
But some things are more important than others, and he and Ember agree on what those are.
Perceptions:
“It’s going to be okay.”
How strangers see him:
“He’s definitely not the guy we’re looking for.”
He’s not confident at all, making himself smaller, squeezing through, trying not to draw attention.
The one who stayed up with me, my caretaker.

“He’s a terrible liar, and he definitely wasn’t telling the truth about that.”
We’re alike in more than just looks, no matter how often I forget.

Excerpt:
I keep sitting here, staring into my water, hoping that maybe I’ll find an answer to my issues, but none comes. Eventually, when the 5:00 train comes rumbling through, I grab my bag and keys, leave a note, and head out the door.
The lobby is empty, and so are the streets when I initially start my trek through the city. No one bothers me by the time I reach the piers, and I’m thankful for it.
The sun rises as I stand under a shop awning, looking out to the sea. The first time I saw it, I was crying, and over time, I became aware of its beauty. Now, though, I hardly feel anything. It’s as much a constant in my life as the sunset, and no matter how much I will myself to look at it with awe once again, I can’t muster a bit of feeling.
I make my way to the Workshop before I’m fully aware of where I want to go, and as I approach, I see the silhouette of Beta on the front steps, punching in the code.
“Morning, sir,” I call out, softly enough so as not to disturb the other people beginning to walk the streets. The craftsman turns to me, a smile lighting his wrinkled face as the door opens.
“Good morning, Nimbus,” he greets me as I walk up beside him. “Sleep troubles again?”
“Yeah.” I walk into the foyer with him, taking the bag from my shoulder and dropping it on the stool in the entryway. I used to try and hide my insomnia from him, too, but when I found him tinkering here at 2:30 in the morning a while back, the understanding that we were in the same boat passed between us.
Beta hums. “You know, there’s a Goblin medication that helps with sleep.”
I look to him. “Why don’t you take it, then?”
“Less people want to talk to you at night, I find.”
Aesthetics:
“How can you even call that a rebellion?”

Firebreathers Character Introduction (1/?):
Ember Timber
“We can’t really make it worse, right?”
Basic Info:
Bisexual Genderfluid; They/Them 19 Ehlf; Fire mage
Referential Info:
Hogwarts house: Gryffindor D&D class: Fighter; Sharpshooter Radiant order: Windrunner Allomantic ability: Pewter A:TLA bender: Fire
Brief Overview:
The oldest of 7, Ember had to grow up early with their twin brother, Nimbus, when all adult support disappeared half way through high school. They’ve since focused most of their time on keeping their family happy, fed, and safe. Unfortunately, keeping 7 teenagers afloat in a city known for its wealth is impossible when one is working minimum wage - even with two jobs.
So Ember has resorted to picking pockets, doing so on the way home from their night shift.
Perceptions:
“I couldn’t leave her out there.”
How strangers see them:
They walk with a bounce just shy of a swagger, and hold their head high with a simple self-assurance and confidence that nearly everyone else around them is lacking.
For some reason, their words cut straight through the fog of delirium still hanging about my head.
How siblings see them:
Thank the Goddesses I have them to back me up.
“[Ember’s] definitely the fun one.”
How friends see them:
“We’ll save your particular skill set for when we get into trouble.”
Ember brings me back to the moment.
I’m bouncing between whether I want to kiss them or shove them off the bed.
How they see themself:
I’m not great at non-violent things.
I feel awful for directing my anger his way, when it’s nothing to do with him.
Through it all, a gnawing desire to make all the hatred in the world go away.
Skills:
“I used to be the top archer at my school. Never aimed at a person, though.”
Adept:
Archery Self defense Talking to people Navigation
Decent:
Comforting others Cooking Stealth Making others laugh
Terrible:
Forethought School settings Controlling outbursts Beating around the bush

Excerpt:
When I get home, Dusk is still sitting up, reading by the light of the lamp. He looks up as I enter quietly, tilting his head in question.
“Library run,” I whisper, waving my notebook. He smiles in understanding, going back to his book before I can chide him for being up so late. I hesitate to tell him off for it, but he has school tomorrow. Knowing how school is for him, though…
I sit down next to him, glancing at the page over his shoulder. He doesn’t notice, completely absorbed in his reading. It’s another adventure story, as far as I can tell.
“Good book?” I ask quietly. He nods in response, folding the cover over slightly so I can see the name. I make a noise of acknowledgment, and he lets the cover fall completely open again. Looking at him so invested in the story, I feel bad for what I’m about to say.
“It’s getting late, bug.” He looks up, a silent plea for just a little longer, but I smile sadly. “You have to get up for school tomorrow.”
He sighs, closing the book, gazing at the cover with a forlorn longing. We sit silently for a moment before he says something too quietly for me to hear.
“Hm?”
“I don’t like school.” The patches of white on his cheeks are burning red, and he looks like he’s about to cry, with his head down, like he doesn’t want me to see it. I shift so I’m completely facing him, wanting to give him a hug, but knowing that will make it worse.
“I know,” I say instead.
He sniffles. “You really don’t. The things they say about me… About her.”
My head tilts to the side, and I furrow my brows. “What do they say?”
“That she deserved it. That I did.”
Anger and sadness boil up, making my own cheeks hot. “You know that’s not true.” His shoulders start shaking, and a couple tears fall onto the book cover.
“But what if it is?” he chokes out.
Aesthetics:
“I want in.”
