#fans calling comic-exclusive characters ocs doesn't necessarily imply they're bad they are distinguishing between different tiers of canon

I'd like to see the people getting upset about the IDW exclusive characters being referred to as OCs be around during the time when Shadow was constantly viewed as just a Sonic recolor- even though it's very clear his character design is not just a palette swap of Sonic. Which I'll always find the latter kind of funny when looking at Shadow's earlier designs.
Shadow's glowup in development is insane lmao. It's funny to hear him say stuff like "why does that hedgehog look like my twin?", but I'd rather take that over Sonic With A Fringe 😂
Anyway, I know why the fans of IDW characters bristle at having them called OCs: they see the implication that they're inferior and not "real", or worth the same as game character, or "unofficial" in the same way a person's OC is. This is why they're also happy that "IDW is canon": because it elevates the comic and the OCs to the same plane as the games, and now they have to be taken seriously.
It's much more than fans rejecting the new character in the new game because they're nostalgics :P
But yeah, sorry, undeniably, IDW-exclusive characters are on a slightly inferior plane than game characters. It doesn't mean that you're stupid for loving them, or that your passion isn't worth as much! But it does mean that it leaves me a sour taste in my mouth when a comic character barely a few months old is written as dictating around a game character who has been around for 17 years. I think it's bad writing. I am not going to sympathize with the months-old comic character. Then you add all the rest...
#fans don't look#anyway i already explained myself and words are failing me#you get what i mean#fans being prissy about shadow or silver or any of the new 'shitty friends' is one thing and it's a phase the fandom has to go through#fans calling comic-exclusive characters ocs doesn't necessarily imply they're bad they are distinguishing between different tiers of canon
