“Oh, hey. Your girlfriend left this in class.” One of Peter’s classmates said as he tossed Peter a hoodie.
“Oh. Thanks.” Peter said before realizing what the person had said. He turned the hoodie over in his hands and recognized it as yours. His face warmed up in a blush when he realized you had just been mistaken for his girlfriend. He shoved the hoodie into his bag and wondered if he should tell you or not.
Peter saw you later that night on a rooftop you frequented often. You were in your suit, as was he, but had your mask sitting beside you. You were munching on a bag of chips and wordlessly extended them to him when he landed on the rooftop beside you. He smiled graciously and took a few before sitting down next to you. Your knees were touching but neither of you moved away.
“You left this in physics, dingus.” Peter said and handed you your hoodie.
“Oh, thanks. We had to run out of there so fast to save that lady. I must’ve left it behind.” You smiled gratefully and pulled it over your head. Peter felt bad that his high tech suit had built in heaters and your homemade suit was probably leaving you freezing every night. He wanted to suggest sharing his warmth, but he didn’t want to overstep.
“I know. Thank God she called the police on those kids for selling lemonade without a permit. I’m really glad we left a test to go witness that heinous crime.”
“It’s not all bad. We did get to see the cops arrest her for wasting their time by making a fake police report, which is always satisfying. And the kids gave us free lemonade. But I think calling it “homemade” was bullshit. I know Minute Maid when I taste it.” You replied, making Peter chuckle.
“You’re right. Both those things were enjoyable.” Peter agreed. “But I don’t know how much more of this I can take. I feel like we have to leave class every other day.”
“I know. Why did we have to pick a college in such a Karen ridden neighborhood?” You sighed.
“Because we wanted to go to the good school with the good science program. We should’ve known the neighborhood would be full of bored housewives who call the police whenever they have a minor complaint. It was our own hubris.”
“It was.” You chuckled and said looked over at him. You exchanged soft smiles before you looked over at the city horizon. Peters eyes never left you and he cleared his throat to get your attention.
“So, uh, my aunt and I were gonna get Chinese food later. At the place that got shut down for being a front for money laundering but that was really just a front for a second Chinese food chain.”
“Oh, I love that place.”
“Yeah. It’s great.” He nodded. “Anyways, you should totally come-“
Peter was cut off by the police radio he wired to his phone going off. He rolled his eyes and checked what the alert was.
“Damn it. Robbery at the bakery on 9th.” He told you.
“Lowkey, I’d do the same. Their cream puffs made me cream.” You said as you put your mask back on.
“Haha, yeah.” Peter chuckled. “Wait, what?”
“You should get some sleep. I’ll handle the robbery. But I’ll catch you tomorrow, Parker. Get home safe.” You saluted him before falling backwards off the building.
“I love you too.” Peter sighed.
“Did you say something?” You asked and popped back up.
“No.” Peter quickly lied.
“Okay. Well, see you tomorrow.” You waved to him and disappeared again. Peter let out another sigh before swinging home.
The next day, you ran after one of your classmates once class was let out.
“Hey, Carly. I emailed you my notes from the class you missed.” You told her.
“Thank you so much. You’re a life saver.” She replied. “Oh, and could you tell your boyfriend that band practice is in the gym today?”
“Yeah, sure. No problem.” You agreed. She was about to walk away when you realized what she had said.
“Wait, what am I saying?” You wondered. “Who’s my boyfriend?”
“You know. That guy with the prescription shoes.” Carly answered. You tilted your head in confusion until you realized you knew exactly who she was talking about.
“Wait, Peter?” You laughed in surprise. You expected her to laugh too and reveal she was just kidding but she looked completely serious.
“Oh, right. Peter. Why do I always think his name is Timmy?” Carly wondered.
“Because he looks like a Timmy. He gets it all the time.” You waved your hand. “And his shoes are not prescription. He just bought women’s platform shoes because he wanted to be taller and didn’t think anyone could tell.”
“We can.” Carly mumbled.
“I know.” You agreed. “But, I’m getting off topic. Timmy is not my boyfriend. I mean, Peter is not my boyfriend.”
“Whatever label you guys use, can you tell him that wind ensemble is meeting in the gym instead of the choir room? The sopranos kicked us out again to practice or do drugs or something.” Carly explained. You furrowed your eyebrows at her and tried to figure out if she was joking or not.
“The label? I’m so lost. Who told you that Peter’s my boyfriend?”
“Nobody told me.” She shrugged. “Everyone just knows that you guys are a couple.”
“Well how would they know something that isn’t true?” You asked and folded your arms.
“I mean, it’s not like you guys try to keep it a secret. Between all the whispering and staying close by each other. Plus you’re always sneaking out of class together or showing up late. And if one of you is absent, the other always is too. It’s been like that since high school. People just put two and two together I guess. Why, did you want to to be secret?”
“I didn’t want it to be anything. We’re not even dating.” You insisted and felt like you were going crazy.
“You don’t have to deny it.” Carly laughed. “I know feelings are weird and gross and stuff and you’ve never been the relationship type, but I think this guy is good for you. He brings something out in you. I don’t know. But you guys are cute. I love seeing the nice loser and assertive pretty girl troupe in real life.”
“Oh. Well, thank you.” You calmed down momentarily and smiled a little. Carly walked away and your smile quickly faded when you remembered what she had said. You looked around the hallway and saw another student holding an instrument.
“Hey. Band nerd.” You called out to him.
“Me?” He asked and pointed to himself.
“Yes, you. You had to let go of your saxophone case to point to yourself. Have you seen my boyfriend today?” You asked him.
“Peter? I haven’t seen him since yesterday in-“
“That sentence better not end with “wind ensemble” or I’m gonna lose it.”
“It was wind ensemble.” He said quickly.
“I’m leaving.” You shook your head and walked away from him. You pulled out your phone and went straight to your schools “campus sweethearts” page on instagram. Sure enough, there was a picture of you and Peter sitting next to each other right at the top of the page. You had your head thrown back laughing at something he was saying and he was looking at you fondly. You let out a shocked gasp and before walking out into the courtyard to look for Peter. You spotted him on a bench and smiled.
“Yes. Thank you, small campus”. You pumped your fist and went to sit next to him.
“Oh, hi. I was just thinking about you-“
“Someone is spreading a horrible rumor about you.” You cut him off.
“Oh no.” Peter frowned. “What is it? Is it bad?”
“Horrible.” You shook your head. “Peter, they’re saying you’re in wind ensemble.”
“Oh, I am.” Peter shrugged.
“Huh?”
“I play the clarinet . See. Clarinet.” Peter said and lifted up his little black clarinet case.
“Huh?” You said louder.
“I used to play in high school, pre-bite but post 9/11. I saw a flyer for orchestra on campus so I joined.”
“And you didn’t tell me?” You practically shouted. Peter knew you weren’t happy but felt strangely honored that you were so upset over him not telling you something about her personal life.
“Because I know how you feel about band nerds.” He replied. “And you and I don’t really talk about non-work related things. I didn’t think you’d care.”
“Are you kidding me? Of course I care.” You insisted. “My rumored boyfriend has been in wind ensemble this whole time and I didn’t even know?”
“Wait, rumored boyfriend? Who, me?” Peter asked in surprised.
“So you didn’t know about this either?”
“No. I mean, someone did refer to you as my girlfriend the other day but I thought it was just an accident. People think you and me are dating?” Peter asked and tried not to look as pleased as he felt.
“Apparently. I’ve had multiple people refer to you as my boyfriend today. And look. We’re on the campus couples Instagram page.” You said and held up your phone.
“Ew. We have one of those?” Peter grimaced and took your phone to see the picture better.
“Yeah. I honestly think the principle runs it.” You replied. Peter was quiet as he stared at the picture for a while.
“What?” You wondered.
“Nothing. This just a cute picture of us. And I think the only picture of us.” He said with a shy smile. You frowned and looked at the picture again before realizing he was right.
“Carly said people think we’re dating since we’re always sneaking off together.” You told him. Peter thought out this for a minute and then made another connection.
“Ohhhh.” He said and nodded his head.
“What?”
“This explains why the boys congratulated me on the bus back to New York after the Washington monument trip for losing my virginity at a historic landmark.”
“You lost your virginity on that trip? To who?” You whispered harshly and felt jealousy burning through your veins.
“You, apparently.” He laughed. “You and I disappeared to get the glowy alien egg bomb thing back and I guess everyone assumed we were off desecrating a national monument.”
“Oh my God. That was like 3 years ago.” You realized. “People have thought we were dating this whole time? We need to put a stop to this.”
“Yeah. You’re right. Or…” Peter trailed off and gave you a look.
“Or?” You raised an eyebrow.
“Or, we lean into it.” He suggested. “We let people think it. We encourage it, even.”
“Why would we do that?”
“People have been suspicious about where we go and what we’re doing since high school. We can only fake so many illnesses and I ran out of grandparents to lie about the death of by junior year. So if people already made up a reason, maybe we should let them think that. We don’t have to go out of our way to confirm it but we can keep the assumption going to keep them from finding out what we’re really doing.”
“So you think we should let people think we’re dating so they stop wondering about what we’re always off doing?”
“That’s exactly what I just said, yes.” Peter nodded.
“Hey. Be nicer to your fake girlfriend.” You said and smacked his arm.
“I’m sorry. I will.” Peter blushed and rubbed his arm. You felt bad for hitting him and wrapped both arms around him to rub them up and down. He smiled softly at you and you sat in comfortable silence for a moment.
“You play the clarinet?” You asked after a minute.
“Squidward made it look so cool.” Peter shrugged.
“Did he?” You asked, making Peter laugh.
“No.” He admitted.
The next day, you and Peter walked to school together with the understanding that from then on out, you were going to play the part of a happy couple. You weren’t going to go around announcing it to everyone or anything. You just needed to convince the few that didn’t already believe the rumor and confirm things for the ones who did believe it.
“You ready for this?” You asked Peter as you stepped into campus.
“I think so. Maybe we should hold hands or something. You know, since people think we’re dating.” Peter suggested and tried to make it sound like it didn’t matter to him.
“I guess so.” You shrugged and held out your hand. Peter eagerly took your hand and took note of the way it fit in his like it was made for him.
“This is weird.” You whispered to him, popping his bubble.
“Why? Are my hands sweaty?” He panicked.
“No. Just really, really hot.” You told him. “It’s just weird that nobody seems to care that we’re holding hands right now.”
“I mean, we are just two random people with almost no social presence.”
“That’s true. I guess I just thought people would care more.” You admitted as you looked around the campus. No one was phased by you and Peter, but he was too busy enjoying the moment to realize it.
“Are you disappointed?” He asked you.
“Yeah. I wore my best bra because I thought I’d be getting more attention today.” You frowned and adjusted the strap of your bra.
“It’s okay. I’ll take one for the team and stare at your boobs.” Peter assured you.
“Aw. Thank you.” You gushed and gave his hand a squeeze.
You got to your physics class and sat together at your usual lab table. Peter looked around the classroom while you carried on as usual.
“Maybe I should put my arm around you. You know, to really convince people.” Peter suggested with a shy blush on his face.
“Is that really something people do?” You genuinely wondered. “I feel like I never see couples with their arms around each other.”
“Actually, I don’t think I have either. But let’s try it anyway.” He said and wrapped an arm around you. You scooted closer to him so that you could comfortably lean into him. You quickly realized you didn’t hate it and let out a content sigh.
“Hm.” Peter made a little noise at the back of his throat.
“What?” You asked him.
“Our height difference makes this hurt my shoulder.” He leaned over to whisper in your ear.
“Then move your arm.” You whispered back.
“I can’t. I just wrapped it around you. It’ll look weird if I immediately take it off.” Peter said as he covered behind him to see who was looking.
“Or, consider this. Nobody in this entire city, and dare I say world, cares where your arm is right now.” You whispered harshly.
“Fine. I’ll remove it. But I have to give a reason.” He told you before loudly clearing his throat.
“Ah. Sorry, babe. I can’t cuddle you right now. My arm is sore from band practice.” Peter said loud enough for everyone in the classroom to hear him. You hung your head in shame and heard people murmuring about his strange comment.
“Oh God.” Peter gulped. “People are looking. They’re gonna know something is up. I have to put it back.”
He went to put his arm back around you but you stopped him before he could draw any more attention to the two of you.
“Just do this.” You whispered to him and pulled his stool closer to you and turned towards him a little. Your knees and were touching and you were now facing each other.
“That’s it? No one can even see this.” Peter said in disappointment. He thought being your fake boyfriend would bring you guys closer but you were sitting the way you always sat in class.
“It’s not about what people can see. It’s about proximity.” You explained. “We’re sitting closer together than anyone else is without being egregious about it. It’s a simple touch. If we’ve been together as long as people think we have, we don’t need to be wrapped around each other all the time. A simple touch to let the other know we’re there is all we need.”
Peter was silent as he stared at you following your explanation. He stared for so long that you felt yourself blush under the eye contact.
“What?” You asked him.
“I like the way you explain things.” Peter said simply. You quickly looked down so he wouldn’t see the effect that comment had on you and took a moment to collect yourself.
“It’s just something I thought of.” You shrugged.
“I know. But I never would have thought of that. Especially not as naturally as it did for you. You’re so quick.”
“Thank you.” You laughed shyly and found yourself unable to look away from him. Peter opened his mouth to say something to keep the momentum rolling but his phone interrupted him.
“Shoot. Sus-tivity on the b bridge.” He whispered.
“What the hell does that mean?” You asked at full volume.
“It means there’s suspicious activity on the Brooklyn bridge.” He rolled his eyes. “We have to act fast so I didn’t have time to say the whole thing.”
“But you just said the whole thing. And the abridged version. So it took twice as long.”
“Shh.” He waved his hand. “We gotta go.”
You reluctantly collected your things and took Peter’s hand to pull him out of his seat. Peter followed you out the classroom but the teacher cleared her throat when you walked by.
“And where are you two going?” She asked. You and Peter exchanged looks as the class snickered and murmured their theories about what exactly you were heading off to do.
“I’m sorry, Dr. Pepper. My girlfriend and I have to leave class unexpectedly. Please excuse us. It’s urgent.” Peter’s said politely.
“I bet it’s urgent, Parker.” A boy snickered, making serval classmates laugh.
“Gross.” You wrinkled your noses and looked at the boys in disdain.
“Fine.” The teacher sighed. “The only reason I don’t write you two up for skipping so often is because you somehow have the best grades in the class. Go on. Just get the homework done.”
“We will.” You assured her before leaving the room with Peter. Peter noticed that you didn’t drop his hand even when you were alone in the hallway.
“Hey, you know that teachers name is Dr. Zhang and not Dr. Pepper, right?” You asked him.
“Oh my God.” Peter gasped. “Is it really? I’ve emailed her so many times and said “Dear Dr. Pepper”. We have to drop out.”
You laughed and held his hand the rest of the way out of the building.
That night, Peter laid in his bed with his phone held close to his face. He had been trying to figure out what to text you to let you know he had been thinking of you.
“I had fun fighting crime with you today” He wrote out. He read it over before scrunching his nose.
“No. Too cringe. She is not gonna fall in love with someone that says “fighting crime”. I’m not Paw Patrol.” He said like it was obvious. He deleted his text and thought of another one.
“I had a good time today, we make a good team” He wrote out instead. He read it a few times until he found issue with it.
“Oh, you had a good time stopping those break dancers that were obstructing that Sbarro? That’ll catch her attention.” Peter said sarcastically and deleted the text.
“have a goodnight :)” He typed out and then shook his head.
“No. Wayyyy too horny.” He sighed and deleted it again.
“night” He wrote out and read it a few times.
“This is good. I can work with this.” He nodded. He was about to workshop it when a text from you popped up.
“pick a color” It said. Peters heart skipped a beat at the vague message and replied with the first color that popped into his head.
“blue”
“thank u” You wrote back within seconds. Peters heart stopped pounded and the disappointment that the conversation was over settled in. After all these years of fighting crime together, you two never really managed to make it past the coworkers stage. He was desperate for more but never knew how to get there.
“no homo but I had fun fighting crime with you today” You suddenly texted again. A smile tugged at Peter’s lips and he touched his as if it were your face.
“ok paw patrol” He wrote back. Back in your room, you were laughing at his text and trying to think of a witty reply.
“ur mad bc you know I’m the chase 🐶” You texted him.
“if ur the Chase then who am I?”
“plssss ur such a marshall” You wrote back.
“but that’s the third most important dog :(“ Peter replied.
“well yes but he’s cute and wears red so the little paw patrol shoe fits” You answered. A blush painted Peters cheeks over you calling him cute but he didn’t want to read too much into it.
“Im wearing red right now😳” He texted back.
“oh I bet you are” You answered, making him laugh. He kept the conversation going for about an hour before duty called once again. Peter groaned and put his suit on before swinging to the scene of the crime. He met you there and stopped the crime before stopping on a nearby rooftop to rest.
“These burglars aren’t very considerate of our sleep schedules. Who robs a Jersey Mikes after midnight? Or, like, ever?” Peter huffed as he tugged his mask off.
“I know. They’re always at inconvenient times. I was in the middle of painting my nails.”
“Can I see?” He asked in a soft voice. You pulled your gloves off and held out your hand for him to see.
“Look. Blue. But I only got half way through before Mike’s was targeted.”
“It’s okay. They still look pretty.” Peter complimented you with a soft smile.
“Thanks. You picked a good color.” You replied.
“What do you mean?” He frowned.
“I told you to pick a color. This is why.” You explained and held out your hand again. His eyes lit up at this new information and he took your hand to see your nails closer.
“You let me chose your nail color?” He smiled fondly.
“Well I didn’t know what to chose so I thought I’d ask the audience.” You shrugged and felt shy all of the sudden.
“Oh. And I’m the target audience, huh?” Peter smirked and turned towards you.
“I never said target.” You teased him and shoved him shoulder.
“I must be hearing things, then.” He shrugged as you both smiled.
“Yeah. Must be.” You said in a soft voice as you stared into his eyes. Peter gulped before making a bold move and taking your hand again under the guise of looking at your nails.
“Look at you. You even got my favorite shade.” He noted.
“You like “Eating For Blue”?” You pretended to gasp.
“Is that really the name of the color?” He laughed.
“Uh huh. It was apart of Essie’s baby fever collection. I almost chose “All In Blue Time” but that’s one tends to get little air bubbles and they give me agida. And I used to have “A Dream Come Blue” but it rolled under the sink so it belongs to the dust bunnies now.” You shrugged as you checked out your nails.
“Wow. This is all new information to me. So, are all nail polish colors named after puns and wordplay?” He asked as he stared into your eyes. He didn’t really care, but he was finally getting somewhere with you and didn’t want it to end.
“In my experience, yes. Not always color related wordplay but always something that makes you go yeah, I guess this shade of beige is what the word “ladylike” would be as a color.”
“This is blowing my mind right now.” Peter chuckled.
“You mean blue-ing your mind.” You corrected and tapped the side of your head.
“I think you inhaled too many of those fumes. Because that was not funny.” Peter said through a laugh.
“What?” You pretended to be offended. “You’re literally laughing right now. I’m so funny.”
“You are.” Peter admitted when his laughter died down. You stared into eyes for a minute before smiling.
“Is that what you rumored saw in me?” You asked him.
“Probably.” He chuckled. “I also heard a rumor that I think you’re really pretty. Like, the prettiest girl I was ever rumored to have allegedly seen.”
“Now you’re the one who’s looney from the fumes because that’s a straight up lie. I know you’ve seen prettier girls because I was standing right next to you when Anne Hathaway left that diner.” You said without making eye contact with him. Things were moving a little too fast and you needed it hit the brakes for a second.
“Oh, yeah. You’re right.” Peter forced a laugh and awkwardly looked over at the cityscape when he realized you were politely telling him to pull back.
“But I appreciate it.” You said after a beat of silence.
“Of course. Sorry. I don’t know what I was thinking saying that.” He laughed nervously. “I was just getting caught up in the fake dating. We’ve been doing it for so long that it felt real.”
“We only started this morning.” You reminded him.
“Right. Well, it’s late. I’m gonna go home.” He said quickly and stood up. He had just blown that and needed to leave as quickly as possible.
“Okay. Goodnight. See you at school.” You called after him. Peter swung home with tears in his eyes and went straight to bed, missing your text about having fun fighting another crime.
The next day at school, Peter decided to start over and push last night from his mind. He played the part of your boyfriend to the best of his abilities and opened every door, pulled out every seat, and carried ever book for you all day long. Then he did it the next day, and the day after that. He kept his mouth shut about his feelings day in and day out no matter how painful it was getting. You and Peter had finally moved past the coworker stage and become real friends so he didn’t want to sabotage it all by telling you that he spent his days wishing for more.
“What are your plans tonight?” You asked him one day as you walked out of class together.
“My aunt is going out with her friends so I was probably gonna watch a movie on my couch. But on my laptop with my earbuds in. Likely in my boxers. Likely with an entire package of Twizzlers. Why?”
“Well I was gonna suggest that we hang out but you sound booked.”
“Really? You want to hang out?” Peter asked with much more enthusiasm than he intended.
“If you want. I’m not doing anything as exciting as boxers and Twizzlers.”
“I would love to. I’ll put on pants for you. I promise.”
“Sounds good.” You laughed. “Text me your address, okay?”
“Sure. Or you could walk with me now. Unless you’re tired of me and need a break before we hang out.” Peter suggested as you left campus together.
“It’s funny you say that. I was just telling my mom the other day that I never get tired of you.” You said casually.
“You..you don’t?” Peter’s face heated up as he followed you down the sidewalk.
“I don’t. I usually need a break from other people if we’ve been together awhile but it’s different with you. It doesn’t feel like I’m using my social battery if that makes sense.“
“It makes sense.” He smiled shyly as your hands bumped against each others. He was about to make a bold move and take your hand despite no one being around but you suddenly moved it to hit the crosswalk button.
Back at Peter’s apartment, he awkwardly gave you a tour and wished he had picked up his clothes before leaving the house that morning. You didn’t seem to mind the socks and boxers strewn across his room because you were too focused on all the little things he kept on his shelves. You picked up a picture frame of your freshman year high school class that had you and Peter seated right next to each other. Your friendship had only just begun so you often forgot how long you knew him for.
“So this is your room.” You smiled and put the picture back.
“Yup. This is where the magic happens.” Peter said and immediately cringed at himself.
“Oh really?” You raised an eyebrow.
“Yeah. This is where I practice magic. Wanna see?” He asked and picked up a deck of cards. You laughed and went over to take one.
“Is your card the ace of spades?” He asked.
“Queen of hearts.” You snorted and turned the card around.
“You’re the queen of my heart.” He whispered.
“Did you say something?” You asked as you looked at all his Legos.
“I asked what you wanted to do tonight.” He lied.
“I don’t know. We have the place to ourselves. We could do something rated R.” You said with a coy smile.
“Like what?” Peter gulped.
“Watch an R rated movie, you perv. Your aunt isn’t here to stop you.”
“You remember me telling you that I’m not allowed to watch R rated movies in the living room anymore?” Peter blushed at you remembering something he had randomly told you long ago.
“Are you referring to the time you watched Tusk at full volume while she had her friends from work over for the first time? How could I forget?”
“In my defense, I didn’t know what the movie was about. And I didn’t think her friends were gonna come into the living room and see that guy getting turned into a walrus.”
“Yeah, the title and cover art gave no indication that the movie would end that way. But that’s not a bad idea actually. Let’s watch something scary.”
“Okay.” Peter agreed and followed you out into the living room. He turned off the lights and got some snacks while you picked a movie. He hated scary movies but he was not about to tell you that. Instead, he sat on the couch beside you as a respectful distance and handed you a bag of chips. As the movie went on, you got closer and closer to each other. Peter had never really seen you scared before but you were practically in his lap just 40 minutes into the movie. You reached into the bag of chips at the same time as Peter and your fingers touched. You both froze and looked at each other as your faces heated up.
“Shit. I’m not wearing a condom.” Peter sighed, making you yank your hand out and laugh.
“You’re stupid.” You laughed and turned back to the movie just as a jump-scare happened. You screamed and jumped closer to Peter.
“This is so scary. Why did I pick this movie?” You asked as you drew your knees up and leaned into his side.
“Yeah, same.” He replied, not even listening. He couldn’t hear anything over the sound of his heart pounding in his ears. You were cuddled into his side with your head on his shoulder and knees in his lap with a blanket drawn up to your nose. He knew you were only cuddling him because you were scared but it didn’t even matter at that point. The movie went quiet for a minute and then made a loud sound, sending you to burry your face into Peter’s neck.
“Tell me when it’s safe to come out.” You whispered into his ear. Peter gulped and wrapped an arm around you to fully protect you from the movie.
“I will.” He said in a soft voice. You peaked your head out a few minutes later but stayed nestled into Peter’s side. You realized his arm was around you and smiled a little.
“Oh, this isn’t so bad.” You shrugged as the main character got eaten alive.
“I don’t understand you.” Peter chuckled and looked down at you. You laughed as well as you looked into his eyes. He was about to say something when another sharp sound from the movie caused you to jump.
“Hold my hand.” You blurted and grabbed his hand. Peter happily accepted and clasped your hand before holding it under his chin. You stayed in that position for a long time and watched the movie. You were both so focused on the screen that you didn’t hear May opening the front door and coming in.
“Hey. I’m home.” She said, making you both scream.
“Oh, hi May.” Peter greeted while he realized it was just her.
“It’s nice to meet you, Mrs. Parker. I’m-“
“I know.” She smirked. “I’ll just be in my room. But, Peter?”
“Yeah?”
“No going in your room with the door closed, okay? I’m home. And we have thin walls. Just keep that in mind.” She said, making Peter turn bright red.
“Got it, May.” He mumbled. She winked at you and disappeared into her bedroom.
“You told your aunt we were dating?” You whispered to Peter in confusion.
“No.” Peter answered honestly. “I guess she just assumed we were.”
“Wow. She’s just like the kids at school.” You shook your head. “I don’t get it. Why does everyone think we’re dating?”
“I mean…” Peter trailed off and looked down at your clasped hands. You hadn’t realized you were still cuddling and quickly jumped off of him. Peters heart sank and the longer he sat in the absence of your body heat, the more upset he felt.
“You just jumped off of me like I was sharp.” He said without looking at you.
“I didn’t want your aunt to see us cuddling and think-“
“And think what?” He snapped, cutting you off. You gutted your head back in surprise and let out a nervous laugh.
“Woah. What’s going on with you? She already knows about your secret life. We don’t have any reason to pretend we’re dating in front of her.”
Peter stared at you for a long time as the word “pretend” cut into him like a knife. Every time he thought you were going somewhere, he was reminded that it didn’t actually mean anything to you.
“Yeah. You’re right.” He mumbled and looked at the movie again. You kept your eyes on him and felt guilty. You had so much to say to him but you felt unable to speak.
“Peter-“
“I don’t think we should pretend to date anymore.” He blurted, cutting you off once again. Your eyebrows went up in surprise and you got a sick feeling in your tummy that you had just ruined something really important.
“What? Why not?”
“It’s stupid. No one even cares anymore.” He shrugged. “We don’t have to fake a breakup or anything but I don’t want to hold hands or play along anymore. I’m done.”
“What changed?” You asked in a soft voice. He was still looking at the movie while you were fully turned to face him.
“Nothing changed. That’s the problem.” He said and angrily got off the couch. You quickly caught his hand and he stopped. He looked down at the ground and let out a sigh. He knew it wasn’t fair to be mad at you if he hadn’t told you what was wrong. He slowly turned around and looked at you.
“Five years ago, you showed up to the same robbery at an all night CVS that I was at and I realized we knew each other from AP Spanish class because I had asked you earlier that day how to conjugate “poner” and you said “pusiste” and I laughed because I thought you were joking but you weren’t and then that night you heard me tell the burglar that he better“pusiste” the money back into the register.“ Peter began.
“Okay. Wow. That was a really long sentence.” You laughed softly. “But I remember that. I laughed and told you that you better remember that for the test.”
“You did. That’s how I knew it was you.” He smiled at the memory. “I failed that test, by the way. I still can’t conjugate “poner.” And I still think it means “boner” even though I know it’s a verb. But anyway, that night, I couldn’t sleep because I was so excited to have met you. Even though we technically already knew each other, that night put us in each others radars. I could not believe that I had met my match. You’re into science like me and sarcastic like me and you understand this side of my life because you have the same side. But despite running into each other on patrol almost nightly and seeing each other around school, I barely got you to notice me. I don’t think you even knew my name until we ended up going the same college. You called me “Timmy” all throughout high school.”
“You seriously look like one. It’s uncanny. I don’t know what it is.”
“I thought things would change when I found out we were going to the same college. The campus is so small I figured there’s no way we wouldn’t become friends. But even then, we hardly ever talked and when we did it was always about work. I didn’t even know where you lived until last semester.”
“I remember that too. The first night we really bonded was when you fell off that roof because you were trying to show me how to do a backflip.”
“Yeah, I’ve never been able to do a backflip.” He admitted. “I only said I could because you said you always wanted to learn how to do one and I assumed given my abilities I’d be able to do one if I just followed my body. But I busted my ass and you were kind enough to sneak me through your window and patch me up with some Scooby Doo bandaids.”
“It was all I had.” You shrugged.
“And you gave it to me anyway. Because you’re kind and compassionate and I’m just…I’m crazy about you.” Peter finally admitted. “I was so excited when we started hanging out more this semester but it always ended up crushing me when I remembered that we just doing it to keep people from finding out the truth. I really, really love our friendship and if I’m ruining it all by saying all this then at least I can die with it off my chest.”
“Wait, now I’m confused. Are you dying?”
“Maybe.” He shrugged. “It feels like I am every time you and I start to get close and then I remember this is all pretend for you.”
“So it’s not pretend for you?” You asked quietly. Peter stared into your heads for a minute and then shook his head.
“No. I was never pretending. I like you.” He told you. Your facial expression didn’t change as you stared back at him. Peter was really starting to panic until a smile tugged at your lips.
“Sit back down.” You told him.
“I’m sat.” He said and rushed it sit down. You nestled back into his side and laid your head down on his shoulder. Peter smiled and rested his head on top of yours, finally pleased with the way a conversation with you went. You both turned your attention back to the movie just in time for it to end.
“Hm.” You huffed. “That was supposed to be us symbolically finishing the movie as a real couple but it appears we’ve already arrived at the credits. Now what?”
“We could watch Tusk.” Peter suggested at the same time you said “We could make out.”
“I never actually saw Tusk but I always wanted to.” You gasped and hit his arm with excitement.
“Or we could do your thing.” Peter forced a laugh and tried not to sound as desperate as he felt.
“Let me see if I can find it.” You said as you scrolled through the streaming services on his TV.
“Or we could do your thing.”

when you step out of that plane, you’re positive it is the peak of your life.
after countless hours of flash talking your head off, until he eventually fell asleep and snored in your ear, you had finally landed.
you crack your neck as you step into the venice airport, a sigh of relief leaving your lips.
mj laughs next to you, her suitcase rolling behind her. “how was your flight?” she asks.
you scoff, “if i ever have to sit next to flash again, i might kill him.”
mj nods, “i didn’t know peter had a perfume allergy in the first place.” she groans, “but sitting next to brad really wasn’t that bad, actually it was kinda fun.” she smiles, and your eyes widen, because what?
mj liked sitting next to brad.
peters sabotaged himself it seems.
as soon as the thought crosses your mind it’s gone, because peters approaching you.
his hair is messy and he’s wearing the sweatpants. the sweatpants that every girl has come to an understand that when a man wears them, he is undeniably more attractive.
you swallow as he approaches, his eyebrows knit together in apology.
you cross your arms over your chest as mj excuses herself. peters eyes follow her as she goes, and you resist the urge to shove him to the ground.
“nice going, idiot.”
peter practically jumps at your words, instantly going to defend himself, “what-”
“that stunt you pulled on the plane? not only did i have to listen to flash’s stupid life story, but mj and brad got a whole lot closer.”
peter practically deflates at that, and you almost feel bad for him.
almost.
you pat him on the back, “you just made this a whole lot harder for yourself, parker.” you huff, following the class to checkout.
peter follows behind you, “y/n, what am i supposed to do now!” he whines and you roll your eyes, “figure it out.”
Tumblr media
venice is absolutely beautiful that’s for sure, the city is bright and the water is clear, it smells fresh and the people look kind and happy.
but it’s hard to enjoy that if you can’t look away from a certain brunette.
peters smile is almost intoxicating, his eyes are bright and his cheeks are flushed a bright red. mj and ned are on either side of him, the three of them caught up in a conversation you aren’t a part of.
some part, deep down inside of you feels almost jealous. you just don’t know why.
maybe it’s because you’ve always felt almost like an outsider with them. ned has his charm, mj has her wit, and peter is the glue that holds it together.
so where does that leave you?
peters best friend that the other two are just forced to deal with?
so deep in thought, you don’t notice when someone sits down besides you.
“hi,” peter says.
“hi.” you say back.
you both sit in silence for a moment, until peters placing his hand on your thigh and squeezing it. you’re guessing its supposed to be comforting, but instead it just makes you feel hot.
“no matter what you’ll always be my best friend, you know that right.” he questions, tucking a loose string of hair behind your ear.
“i know, pete.” you mumble, hoping he doesn’t notice the flush in your cheeks.
“i know you say you know, but do you really know?” he asks.
you chuckle, “there’s no reason that the word ‘know’ should ever be used that much in a sentence.”
peter rolls his eyes and laughs, “but-“
“i know, pete. no matter what, it’s you and me, just like always.” you mutter, holding out your pinkie for peter to intertwine his own with.
he swallows and stares for a second, and then eventually intertwines your fingers.
you bite your lip as you let go of his hand, trying to ignore the butterflies that form in the pit of your belly.
“y/n-“
“alright kids, the hotel is just ahead so go ahead and grab all your bags!”
saved by the bell.
you clear your throat and reach behind you and grab the handle to your suitcase, your duffle bag is already thrown over your shoulder.
you step off the boat cautiously, thankful to peter for being in standby just incase you fall.
the rest of your classmates arrive soon after, and mr. harrington leads all of you inside the murky hotel.
the floor is covered in water, and there’s a strange smell that lurks around the lobby.
“what’s that smell?” flash asks, earning a glare from mr. harrington.
Tumblr media
you set your bags down on the bed, which unlike the rest of the hotel, is thankfully dry.
mj flops onto her bed with a groan, “i wanna sleep for like, 100 years.”
you snort, “okay, sleeping beauty.”
she shakes her head, “you think i’m kidding.”
before you can respond there’s a knock at your door, and you rush to open it. peter stands on the other side, a shy smile in his face.
“uh, hey, me and ned are about to head out to go look around and we were wondering if you guys wanted to come with…” he mutters, glancing over your shoulder at a groaning mj.
you glance behind you, “uh, yeah, just give us like… twenty minutes.” you says and peter nods.
and thus starts your summer vacation.

                                ─── ・ 。゚☆: *.☽ .* :☆゚. ───
it had been a week since you and tom had started ‘dating’. it was working out well and people started believing in it whenever they’d see the way you’d both put on a show in front of others. and when sarah and mia had questioned what was going on, they both happily squealed at your response.
now you sat on your bed, scrolling through different social medias to pass the time until you felt tired enough to go to bed. you stopped your scrolling process when a messages notification popped up at the top of your screen.
tom hey, you busy?
you clicked on it, the screen brightening as your fingers tapped against the keyboard.
y/n not really, just trying to make myself tired why? something wrong?
you watched as the ‘read’ popped up under your blue message. the bubble with three little dots popped up on his end.
tom can’t sleep lol and i’m kinda craving some ice cream  wanna join?
you smiled, typing out a response.
y/n  sure!
tom cool :)  i’ll pick u up in 10?
y/n sounds good :)
you got up out of bed and threw on a hoodie overtop of your tank top, grabbing some socks and shoes before heading downstairs quietly. the two other girls were already asleep, getting their rest in before their 8ams in the morning.
you grabbed your wallet and house key out of your purse, watching as a car pulled into the driveway. you quietly opened the front door, stepping outside and locking it behind you before making your way to the passenger side of his car.
“hey,” you smiled, getting in. he smiled back at you.
“hey,” he looked over at your hoodie, “you like the bruins?”
you looked down at your hoodie, “oh, it was my dad’s. hockey was his favorite sport.”
he nodded, pulling out the driveway. he handed you his phone that was unlocked, “you can choose the music if you want to.”
you clicked on the spotify icon on his phone, going through his liked songs playlist. you let out a soft laugh, clicking on the one direction song towards the top of the playlist, “you like one direction?”
he smiled back over at you from the driver’s side, “hell yeah! some of their songs are catchy.”
you shook your head, still smiling as you looked out the window. you couldn't explain it, but something about being with tom made you feel comfortable. everything about him made you feel like you could tell him anything and everything, talk for hours about whatever crossed your minds.
he looked over at you, “you alright?”
you turned back to the brunette, a content smile on your face, “yeah, sorry. just thinking.”
“about?”
you shrugged, “just about life, i guess?”
he pulled into a space in the parking lot, “talk over some ice cream?”
you nodded, the two of you getting out of the car. you both walked up to the order window, placing your order. when you went to pay, he pushed your arm aside.
“no, i’ve got it.”
“nope, this was my idea. let me.”
you huffed, sending him a look as the cashier smiled at the both of you, “i remember when my husband and i were your age. it was always an argument whenever it’d be time to pay.”
you both let out a soft laugh, smiling at the woman. he fished a few dollar bills out of his wallet, sticking them in the ‘tips’ cup propped up in the window. she smiled at him again.
“here you go, hun,” she said, handing him his card back before looking over at you, “he’s a keeper, sweetie.”
you smiled, “can’t argue with that.”
he playfully rolled his eyes at you, the two of you thanking the older woman before stepping to the pickup window. once the two of you had your ice cream in your hand, he led you back to the car. this time, he opened the door for you.
“putting on a show for that woman, huh?”
he laughed, shaking his head, “shut up and get in the car.”
you laughed back at him, sitting down on the leather seat before he closed the car door. he made his way around to the other side, closing the door.
“so,” he said after a little while, your ice cream almost finished as the condensation on the cup soaked through the napkins in your hand, “tell me everything i need to know about you.”
you hummed, taking the plastic spoon out of your mouth, “like what?”
“your favorite color, favorite song, about your hometown, parents,” he shrugged, “what cringey phase you went through in middle school,” you chuckled as he smiled, “seriously, anything.”
you sighed, “well, i don’t have a favorite color or a favorite song, there’s just too many options for both of those things,” he nodded, “uhm, born and raised in boston, i don’t really plan on leaving, either.. and i definitely went through an emo phase in middle school.”
he smirked, “i can picture that,” he said, “what about your parents?”
you bit down on your lower lip, putting your ice cream cup in your lap, “well, it’s just me and my grandmother. my mom wasn’t in the picture, and my dad passed when i was 15. ever since then, it’s just been me and her.”
his expression softened, “im so sorry.”
you waved him off, sending him a tight lipped smile, “it’s okay.”
he shook his head, “i can’t imagine,” he put his ice cream trash in the cupholder of the car, “i mean, i was wondering about your word choice earlier when i asked about the sweatshirt, but i just didn’t expect-”
“tom,” you placed your hand on his arm to keep him from rambling apologies, “it’s okay. really.”
his eyes met yours and you smiled softly, “sorry.”
you playfully rolled your eyes, “stop apologizing!”
he put his hands up in fake surrender, “okay, okay!”
you both chuckled as a comfortable silence washed over the two of you. you decided to be the one to break it, “what about you?”
he hummed before answering, “well, my favorite color is blue, favorite song changes but currently it’s ‘take me where your heart is’ by q, because unlike someone i know, i can pick.”
you playfully swatted at his arm, “fuck off.”
he smiled, leaning back in his seat, “uhm, what else… oh, born and raised in london, i’ve got three younger brothers, two of them are twins. i’m hoping to go pro with hockey, and uhm… i was a theater kid in middle school.”
“okay, being a theater kid is kinda dope,” you argued, “props to them, they have more talent than i have.”
he nodded, “yeah, it was a fun time.”
“what about your parents?” you asked and you watched him shift in his seat, unsure on wether or not he should talk about it. you gave him a reassuring smile, egging him on to talk about them.
“they’re y’know, parents,” he said, “my mom’s more supportive about other stuff, and my dad pushes me to play hockey like he did in college, wants me to be better than he was.”
“your dad played hockey?”
“yeah, back in the 90s,” he shrugged, “never made it pro, though. so i guess he’s trying to live through me to get the life he wanted.”
“is that how you ended up in boston?”
he nodded, “yeah, best school with the best hockey team. didn’t have much of a choice.” he looked back over at you, “what about you, though? what’re your plans for after graduation?”
you shrugged, “haven’t really gotten there yet. i’m hoping to land a internship with a book publishing company here in the city by the end of spring semester, and then i guess we’ll see where that leads me.”
the music was still playing softly as the two of you sat in a comfortable silence. you looked over at him as he scrolled through his spotify playlist, his face softly illuminated by the dim lighting on his phone. he looked so pretty, so soft…
no, stop it. this is supposed to be a fake relationship. no strings attached, remember?
you pulled your gaze away and checked the time on your phone, 10:45pm. even though it was late at night, you weren’t tired at all.
“oh, i forgot to tell you,” his voice broke through the silence, “there’s a game this friday, you should come.”
you let out a soft groan, “do i have to?”
he chuckled, “part of the deal, remember?”
those damn rules.
“okay, fine. but im bringing mia and sarah.”
he shrugged, “fine with me.”
after a few more minutes of talking about classes tomorrow, you both had come to the conclusion that it was getting late and the two of you should head back. the drive was short back to your house, tom pulling into the driveway and putting the car in park.
“thanks for the ice cream,” you smiled, “i owe you.”
“you don’t owe me anything,” he smiled, “was on me, remember?”
you rolled your eyes, “fine, next time it’s on me, okay?”
he shook his head with a laugh, “whatever helps you sleep at night, love.”
you ignored the butterflies in your stomach that erupted at the nickname, smiling back at him as you got out of the car, “goodnight, thomas.”
“goodnight, y/n.”
                               ─── ・ 。゚☆: *.☽ .* :☆゚. ───
the next morning was chaotic. the quad was filled with students trying to find their way to their classes, booths set up in the middle encouraging them to join certain clubs. you walked with your headphones in, looking down at your phone as you opened spotify.
you typed in the song tom had mentioned the night before, listening to it. you were curious about what his music taste was like, no other reason. none at all.
you jumped as someone tapped you on the shoulder, tugging an earbud out as you spun your head into the direction of the person behind you. you relaxed when you noticed the messy flop of brunette curls.
“jesus, you really have to stop stalking me.”
“well, good morning to you, too, sunshine,” the british accent filled your ears, “and to be fair, this is literally the main hub of everyone who goes to this school.”
he turned around in a circle with his arms out, gesturing to the amount of people walking through. you playfully rolled your eyes, “what do you want, holland?”
“what? i can’t walk my ‘girlfriend’ to her first class of the day?” he asked, using air quotes when he said ‘girlfriend’. he held his hand out for you to give him your bag, which you obliged, knowing he wouldn’t give up without a fight.
“where you heading?”
“english with wilson,” you said the next sentence with a sarcastic tone, “the best way to start my morning.”
“he’s such a snoozefest,” he rolled his eyes, “always talking about shit that doesn’t matter.”
you chuckled, nodding in agreement, “where are you heading?”
“oh, i’m free until my class at 2,” he said, opening the door to the building for you, “might just go sit in the lounge for a little bit.”
you nodded, walking towards the staircase, “sounds like an interesting morning.”
“oh, for sure.”
he walked you to the door, handing you back your bag, “i’ll be back here at noon.”
“you don’t have to walk me to and from, it’s okay.”
he shrugged, “i want to.”
your eyes drifted when you realized the group of boys were heading to the same room as you. your eyes locked on jack’s blue ones, a pit settling into your stomach. tom caught on that you weren’t paying attention, his eyes shifting to the blonde who walked past you.
jack’s eyes shifted from you and to tom. tom sent him a nod, smiling as jack ignored him, entering the lecture.
you sighed, “maybe i should go see advisement about switching.”
“no, this is good,” tom said, “i can come here every morning and make him jealous.”
“i guess you’re right.”
“always am,” he smiled, walking backwards as he sent you a smile, “see you at noon, darling.”
you walked into the lecture and found a seat, sitting down and thinking to yourself and shaking your head as you smiled softly.
tom holland was going to 100% be the death of you.

“It went well?” Chan exclaimed in shock over your speakerphone.
You hum in agreement, confusion in the forefront of your mind, “Surprisingly, it went better than I could have ever imagined,” a sigh escapes you, “I don’t know, it’s weird.”
“Well, the fact he even apologized caught me off guard in the first place.”
You laugh lightly, “Oh, trust me, I still am having a hard time believing it. It’s been so long of him being an asshole to me, so seeing him like this was… very different. A little scary, if I’m being honest.”
“Yet it still went well even though it was kinda weird?”
“I mean, it was really awkward at the start which was annoying, but I can’t blame him. He genuinely did look like he felt bad, so it probably was hard to be in his position,” you think aloud, “But it was getting too much and he was putting a damper on the mood, so I tried to make him more comfortable, which worked. Then we started talking, and I don’t really know how to say it, but it felt… really nice? It made me realize that maybe I did miss our friendship.”
“Well, you guys did get along really well before everything happened. To be honest, I thought there was something more going on before then,” Chan recalls, “Though, his sudden change made me realize I was way off.”
Your eyebrows furrow at Chan’s comment, “Something more? Like romantic?”
He chuckles from the other end of the line, “Yeah, I thought something was going on between you two. You guys just seemed to click really well, better than any other costar you’ve had in the past, even to this day. Lowkey thought it was going to be a Tom Holland and Zendaya moment.”
“Jesus,” you mutter, “Definitely not that, I never thought of him that way.”
“You say that, but I remember the heart eyes you used to look at him with,” he teases.
“Oh, shut up. I did not. Besides, that’s not what’s important in the present time!”
He rolls his eyes, even though you couldn’t see it, you could feel it in his tone, “Yeah, yeah, whatever you say. You’re right though, it is a difficult situation for both of you to be in. Other than it being uncomfortable, how are you feeling about it?”
You let out a heavy sigh, “I mean, part of me is happy to be able to have a normal relationship with him, but… I’m still really mad at him for how he treated me. I don’t think it’s something I can let go of yet.”
“That’s okay. You have time to process all of that, no one is rushing you.”
“I know, but for a moment yesterday, I kinda forgot about all that. I had fun with him, and I want to keep having fun, but then I remember everything and feel so… upset that I am even letting him back into my life, even if it's for a bit.”
“Huh…” Chan muddles over your words for a moment, “That is quite the dilemma. I think you have every right to be upset at him, but I also think it’s okay if you miss your friend. I just think you have to figure out what kind of boundaries you want to set for yourself then. I think you can still have a nice time with him without him earning your forgiveness just yet. He can be a surface level friend or acquaintance until he proves himself trustworthy again.”
“You’re right, but I just didn’t like how easily it slipped my mind. Part of me feels like I should still be more on guard and not as friendly, but he makes that hard too.”
“Y/N, it’ll be okay,” he reassures, “You’ll figure it out, but it’s perfectly fine for you to have fun, while still having boundaries, okay?”
You sigh, still a bit unconvinced by his words, “I guess…”
“I know it’s hard, I can’t imagine what it's like to be in your position, but I promise it will be okay.”
“I’ll believe you just this once!”
“You say that every time, but sure, just this once. Call you tomorrow, alright?”

It was the next evening, and you were anxiously waiting in your apartment for Hyunjin to arrive. You weren’t sure how today was going to go, and the idea Changbin had for you both today made you nervous, as it felt as a far more intimate setting than the previous dates. Although, you couldn’t entirely argue with his logic. Today, he suggested that you both cooked a simple dinner with each other, the idea being that it would help you both learn how to work together towards a common goal, which was dinner in this case.
Despite you being able to understand the logic behind his idea, it was incredibly intimidating to think about having Hyunjin in your own home, especially considering the sudden change in dynamic in your relationship. Even then, you didn’t just let anyone into your home, as you only ever had your closest friends come over for small hang outs, so this was far outside of your comfort zone, but perhaps that was a good thing. Maybe going out of your comfort zone with Hyunjin would only help you both succeed the next time you found yourselves on set, and perhaps something as intimate as cooking together would help you both ease into your roles.
A knock on the door wakes you from your thoughts, prompting you to shuffle hurriedly towards the door to open it for none other than Hyunjin. He greets you with a gentle smile, bowing his head slightly as you let him in wordlessly. There is an awkwardness that hangs in the atmosphere, indicating that you both were uncomfortable with today’s plans and he, too, was likely struggling to find the right words to say.
You take a deep breath in, almost as if you were catching your breath, “Welcome to my place!” You cringe internally at yourself, unable to handle the intensity of the awkwardness between you two and how poor your attempt was to disperse it.
“It’s really nice!” he compliments, standing in place by the entrance after removing his shoes.
“Thank you,” you respond, “Uhm, just follow me, the kitchen is this way. And all the ingredients are ready for us to use, Changbin had them delivered.”
Hyunjin follows you into the kitchen, his eyes taking in every detail around him, filling him with delight to see how characteristic of you the apartment was, it being a perfect representation of your personality. “What are we making again? I don’t think Changbin filled me in.”
“Oh, we’re just making curry udon! It’s something I’ve made before and it’s not too hard. My bad, I didn’t tell Changbin what we were making which is probably why he didn’t tell you. All I did was send him an ingredient list.”
“I forgot you like cooking,” he replies as he stops in your kitchen, quickly turning to the sink to wash his hands.
You hum in response, washing your hands after him, “I think it can be relaxing, but uh, if you want you can start with chopping the carrots and potatoes? I’ll handle the onion and garlic.” Hyunjin nods and follows your orders without much trouble, or so you think, until you turn around and see him holding the knife in a very precarious and questionable manner. Your eyes widen as you rush towards, “Oh my god, that is not how you should be trying to cut a potato. Have you not chopped a veggie in your entire life?”
He smiles sheepishly, shrugging his shoulders, “Listen, I don’t do this cooking thing often,” a gentle chuckle leaving him as he takes amusement in your concern, his heart thumping over the sudden proximity you both now shared.
“I-,” you sigh with a baffled expression, “Okay, let me just show you because I am not having you accidentally bleeding out all over my counter.”
“You’re more worried about your counters than me?”
“Shut up,” you suppress a laugh before softly whispering, “Here, just do it like this,” you reach over and lay your hands atop of his without second thought, guiding him on how to position his hands without the risk of injury. Once you’ve become aware of how your bodies are pressed up against each other from the side, you jump away in an instant, “That’s it! That’s all you gotta do.” You’re quick to avoid eye contact with him, turning towards your own cutting board as you chastise yourself for being so careless with him at that moment.
Hyunjin’s face and ears were soon dusted with a soft pink, heat rushing across his body over the interaction that seemed so natural, but manages to mutter out a quiet ‘thank you’ before trying his knife skills out once more. Despite your momentary embarrassment, you are sure to take sneaky peaks at Hyunjin to make sure he was handling himself well. You move on from chopping and turn your attention to seasoning the chicken while Hyunjin was still focused on the vegetables, going at a leisurely place which you much preferred in this case.
The rest of cooking goes on in silence aside from the occasional instruction or question, small witty jokes, and touches that seemed to linger more than necessary, but perhaps that was your imagination. Once everything was done, you both sat across from each other, admiring the fruits of your shared labor that was now plated in front of you both.
“It looks really good!” Hyunjin comments enthusiastically, a wide, toothy grin spreading across his face.
“It does, right? Let’s eat!”
Neither you miss a beat, taking a huge bite of the udon noodles, letting out a delighted groan over just how flavorful the food was. “Woah,” Hyunjin groans out, surprise at how well tonight had gone thus far with the added victory of food, “Holy shit, this is so yummy.”
“Mhmm,” you mumble out between slurping noodles, “This is better than when I make it on my own.”
“It’s the Hyunjin special that you’ve been missing this whole time,” he says matter-of-factly with a smug smile.
“You’re being pretty bold for a guy who just learned how to hold a knife today,” you tease, playfully sticking your tongue out. Your eyes catch each other for a moment between your fits of giggles, time stopping for the briefest second possible before you both avert your eyes out of nerves. What was that? You thought frantically to yourself, suddenly hyper aware of the strange warmth in your stomach that was also accompanied with the feeling of your stomach dropping. It was an uncomfortable feeling, one you didn’t know how to explain or ever experienced before, but you did know you didn’t want that combination of symptoms again for whatever emotion this was. You clear your throat, taking a sip of water as if it would wash away the discomfort, “I guess we are pretty good, huh? Maybe our acting project has hope if we are able to work this well together,” you joke, a very poor, if not disastrous, attempt to alleviate the awkwardness that seemed to follow you everywhere these days.
Your words stab Hyunjin in the heart, the guilt he had once forgotten was knocking at the door of his heart, forcing itself in without his permission. His entire demeanor deflated the moment those words left your lips, his heart writhing at the reminder that the only reason this situation existed was because of him and his blinding stupidity. Yet, here you are, warmly inviting into your home and treating him as if he was an old friend of the past, as if he had never wounded you and he couldn’t help but wonder if he was deserving of any of this. He stood still, gulping down his food before faintly whispering a hushed apology.
“I’m sorry.”
Your head snaps back up, your eyebrows furrowing with worry once you sense the sadness lacing his trembling voice, his head now turned downwards as if he was trying to mask his state. Perhaps the joke was a little too soon, you thought, now it being your turn to feel bad. “Ah, Hyunjin, I’m sorry-” you apologize hurriedly, “It was just a joke, please don’t take it too seriously. I’m sorry.”
He forces a smile, waving his hand as if to tell you to not worry about it, the words at the forefront of his tongue, but caught in his throat due to the heaviness sinking in his chest. Once again, shame paralyzed his body, the warm sensation behind his eyes reminding him to blink, reminding him he shouldn’t be so selfish in his pain when he was the cause of so much discomfort. Was any of this okay? Was any of this right? He wonders to himself, still unable to find forgiveness within himself.
“Hyunjin,” you speak tenderly, your hand reaching across the table to touch his arm, grounding him back in the present, “I promise, it’s okay.” You knew that last bit was a lie, but it was for his own sake and comfort at this point. His treatment, his behavior, his attitude – none of it was ever okay, but you decided to ignore your own feelings and prioritize his. For the first time in two years, you cared about how he felt, you finally cared how your words harmed him, when before all you ever aimed for was a strike to his heart, but today, you chose to comfort his heart that your words unintentionally wounded. Although, your own heart and conscience briefly argued for a moment, one wanting to tend to his hurt, while the other demanded you let him rot in his misery, insisting he deserved it for what he had put you through. It was a tug-of-war you weren’t enjoying, you had almost wished you two remained in your heated hatred for one another and that nothing ever changed. Despite what your mind screamed at you, you chose to listen to your heart, you chose him over yourself.
He takes a deep breath in, trying to collect himself before speaking, “I just–,” a heavy exhale escapes him, “I’m just sorry. I just feel really, really, really bad for everything, but I also feel like I’m not allowed to feel bad when I was the one to hurt you.”
His eyes met yours, the glassiness of his eyes conveying the depth of his guilt, “Oh, Hyunjin,” you whisper apologetically, “Listen, I won’t lie to you, what you did was shitty. You did hurt me, but that is in the past. You feeling bad about it means you’re a good person, right? It means you’re human and that you care, but I don’t want you to let your guilt overwhelm you either.”
It was a genuine response in a moment of sudden vulnerability, your response taking him aback, but the words temporarily placating his never ending thoughts, “I guess, but… I don’t know if I can forgive myself,” he mumbles.
“You don’t have to yet, but you can learn to eventually,” you reply, “I understand it’s hard, and even I still need more time to do that myself, but I do think you deserve to be kind to yourself.” None of that was a lie, you did truly believe he was deserving of his own compassion, but his culpability helped you see the humanity in him. The spitefulness you once knew him for nowhere to be found, but instead there was only a guilt-ridden man who carried a world of humiliation. “I think I can learn to do so soon, too. Spending time with you helps. Besides, I did miss being friends with you if I’m being honest.”
The last sentence causes him to perk up, a small, satisfied smile playing onto your lips, “Really?” he asks, his ears barely believing your words, but his heart was swelling with hope. His eyes search yours, he can’t help but notice how they glimmer under the soft lowlights of your home, and for some reason, he finds warmth and comfort in them. He knows he can trust you, he knows you are being as candor as possible.
“Really, I mean it.”
“I missed it too.”
“Well, I’ll do my best to learn to trust you again. I’ll learn to forgive you eventually, just for now, it still hurts.”
“I’m sorry. I’ll learn too.”

Photobooth- Tom Holland
A/n: I had this idea for so long, like, not even kidding.
Warnings: Explicit language; hot make out between T.H, Y/n and Z
Summary: Y/n it's tired of the media commeting on her relationship, then she decides to break the internet
Don’t forget to share, like, comment and leave your ideas here
Bellah’s Masterlist 🪻
“ Fuck me,” Y/n complains, throwing his cell phone on the armchair next to him in the living room.
The woman put her hands to her face, pulling it down in discontent. It wasn't the first time that the media had tried to destroy her image because she was dating a Hollywood star, who coincidentally is making a movie in which the famous actress Zendaya is taking part. From comments on her Instagram posts to people in the street when they saw her walking with her boyfriend and taking the dogs for a walk. All she heard was: “You're stealing him from her”.
Zendaya and Y/n were friends, and there was no relationship of jealousy or dispute over Holland, but the media always made it seem like they were in a constant fight for the attention of the year's hottest new thing, Thomas Holland.
“What's wrong?” Thomas approaches Y/n with a cup of tea in his hands and his hair in a mess. “It's seven in the morning, love. Let's not have another crisis over the building's wifi.”
“It's not the wifi.” The girl complains. “It's those… ugh.” The frustration is evident in her voice, and then her index finger points to the cell phone lying on the burgundy armchair next to the cream sofa.
The brunette bends down to pick up the cell phone, then reads the news out loud:
“Tom Holland and Zendaya Coleman. Off-screen romance? This afternoon, a photo of the two in a coffee shop in Los Angeles, California, was taken by fans who were present at the scene. According to the interviewees, the couple were talking about building a family and how they should improve their relationship. In 2019, Thomas Holland started dating his childhood best friend, Y/n L/n. Apparently, close sources say that they are going through a crisis in their relationship due to the fact that Holland has not yet asked her to marry him. This would have led to constant fights, and finally, a hidden romance with actress Zendaya Coleman. There has been no statement yet about these photos or the news being spread. Keep an eye out for more news, and leave us a comment on who you're most in love with.”
Thomas lowers his cell phone close to his face, letting a disgruntled grunt come out of the brunette's mouth.
“I didn't mind the comments on my photos before, or even the insults on Twitter, but this is too much!” The woman said dissatisfied, getting up from the sofa and heading towards the double bedroom.
“Love, I'm really sorry.” Holland tries to say. “We were going over the lines from the new movie, which, by the way, talks about building families and so on.” The brunette follows his girlfriend, managing to touch her fingers in an attempt to calm her down somehow.
“I know you were. I'm not suspicious of you, but these tabloids? What do they think I'm doing with my life?” The woman says, abruptly removing her pink pajamas with flowery details. “Fuck!”
“I can talk to my agent. Ask him to take down this report or even block the page for spreading fake news about us, me-” The actor follows her towards the closet.
“This isn't going to end any time soon. Not as long as people think there's a rivalry between the two of us, and you're the meat in the middle. We need something that really impacts people.” The girl opened her drawers, patiently picking out something she could wear to the gym.
“Like what? A text statement about the case. Or if you don't want to show up, I could choose someone to speak for us. Harry or Sam.” Holland tries to take charge of the situation, spreading his arms as a sign of disorientation. “Or we could post a photo together with a cheesy caption.
Y/n rests both hands between the clothes that have ended up in the drawer of gym tops, staring at nothing for a few seconds. The woman lifts her face, relaxing her tense shoulders and finally, having an enlightening moment, replies:
“I already know what I want to do, but you can't be jealous
(…)
Weekends, for some, were a day of rest from a long day's work. But for the wealthy, it was synonymous with extravagant parties with big names used for networking or just getting a chance with people of great influence. The loud sound of the speakers positioned near the swimming pool of the large mansion meant that even from the water the pulse of the beat could be felt. The number of people started to become countless as soon as the clock struck ten. The various rooms were full of different activities, with the kitchen being the center of drinks and the living room the center of board games along with couples sitting on the sofa.
Thomas was drinking with some work colleagues, while admiring the expensive watches he wanted to buy one day to build a collection. While he seemed distracted, Y/n found himself in a group of women chatting about various subjects, in search of his real target. The brunette actress, with her hazel eyes and divine height, entered the room in a clingy dark blue dress and silver high heels, which didn't seem to affect her posture. Y/n focused his eyes on the actress, silently excusing himself from the women he was talking to and heading towards the brunette. Passing between the guests and the men who stared at her because of her provocative black outfit, Y/n's warm hands found the actress's back, touching it slowly
“Hi, Y/n!” Zendaya smiles as soon as she sees the image of the woman behind her, and greets her with a hug. “What's up? You look stressed.” “I'm fine actually.” Y/n comments, holding a drink in her hand and approaching the woman to say into her ear. “Can we talk in private?”
Zendaya narrows her eyes, with a confused face.
“Why?” The woman asks, only to receive a penetrating look in response.
The brunette decided to leave the conversation and follow in the footsteps of the woman in front of her, who was leading her towards a photo booth, where her boyfriend was already waiting for her, as if something was being planned between the couple. The actress smiled confusedly, sharing a look with Thomas, who was wearing a white dress shirt that showed off his muscles. The actor looked at his girlfriend, who stared at the actress determinedly, even though she was afraid of what she was about to do and ask.
“Did you see the news that came out this week? About our photo in the cafeteria?” Tom asked the woman, who quickly looked at him in confusion.
“Yes, I did. I'd asked them to take it down, but since the content of our conversation wasn't a lie, because we were talking about the script, they can't delete it. It wouldn't be considered fake news, just a double entendre because the teenagers who were watching us didn't know we were talking about the movie.” Zendaya loses her poise, crossing her arms and leaning against the photo booth door.
“I don't want you to take it off the air.” Y/n speaks up, taking a step forward. “I've had enough of all the times I've felt like a complete fraud, where we've all been the targets of lies and what they think we are.” Y/n says, expressing her discontent.
“We don't want to be talked about anymore. And that goes for you too.” Holland says to the actress leaning against the booth.
“Well?” The brunette asks, giving them room to explain what the plan is.
“We want to do worse. Something that's so surprising that it takes them by surprise and no one else will have any arguments to say about us. And I thought maybe we could get involved in something. The three of us.” Y/n approached the two of them, stepping into the middle of the small circle that had formed.
The air became dense, and their gazes hovered with the same density as a wave against the rocks of the sea. This had to end, and it would somehow, now.
“A sex scandal?” Holland frowns, wondering at his girlfriend's suggestive comment.
“I don't know yet. I was hoping you'd have better ideas than me.” Y/n is overcome by a lack of creativity.
Zendaya squints at the spot she was leaning on, and then an idea lights up her mind. The brunette turns away from the black wall and faces the booth, giving a smug smile as soon as it's finally possible to tangibly see what could put an end to all the rumors they've been suffering for the last few months. The brunette catches the eye of the couple who seemed lost, and then one of her hands finds the black velvet curtain used to cover the entrance to the cabin. Y/n silently agrees as soon as he sees the seductive smile of the woman in the blue dress.
Yes
That's what she wanted
Both women enter the cabin already feeling their bodies meeting each other, and then Thomas enters the cabin, closing the curtain behind him. The actors looked at each other as Y/n stood in the middle of them, feeling her breathing get heavier with each warm touch that found the waist of her body and the beginning of her back. The place seemed smaller than usual, and the heat began to become part of the environment they inhabited.
“What's up?” Thomas asks his girlfriend, who just watches him from the corner of her eye, giving a sideways smile in response. “And you?” The brunette stares at the actress who agrees with a somber look, stipulated to face the consequences that could come later.
Y/n touches the glowing screen in front of her, causing her eyes to shine with determination. The warm air of the actors' breathing hit the back of her neck, causing her hair to stand on end and her cheeks to turn redder than usual. Holland's jaw was clenched as he stared at Zendaya with worried eyes, even though she wasn't feeling pressured by the situation. It was all just a new way of getting into trouble while playing with each other. The countdown numbers began to appear on the screen, causing Y/n to turn away from the screen a little in an attempt to take one last look at the actress.

Their lips come together in a wet kiss, as the sound of the camera clicking is heard. Zendaya's tongue slides against Y/n's, letting out a brief moan as she feels her body being pressed against the wall of the small room.
Holland, for his part, gently touches his girlfriend's hip, who then leaves the older actress's kiss and attacks the lips of her boyfriend, who was watching the scene. The kiss quickly deepens, and he can even taste the drink that Zendaya was sipping before talking to both of them. The Brit takes one of his hands to the back of his girlfriend's neck, who grunts softly against the kiss.
Another click
Taking a deep breath after leaving the kiss, he pulls away from both of them, allowing an empty space to remain between the two actors. With a permissive look, Y/n's two hands find the backs of both of their hands in support of the intriguing atmosphere generated. Thomas nodded in agreement, taking a step forward and lowering his eyes to the dress that the brunette wore delicately with its fine linen features. The woman allowed herself to be touched, and finally both wet lips intertwined into one, tasting each other. Zendaya's hands playfully touch Holland's face, while the actor traces a line with his finger down the side of Coleman's waist
Another click
A strand of saliva is shared by both of them as they leave the kiss, and then, as a last shot, the three of them come together in a mixture of flavors and saliva while the photo was being uploaded. He was sloppy, inexperienced and completely dirty. Their lips made slippery sounds, and the sounds they shared were in tune. Their bodies were on fire, and although they hadn't talked about any kind of desire for threesomes, it was something that had certainly crossed their minds as they kissed in a naughty photo. The clicking sound was heard one last time, but the kiss hadn't stopped yet. It was only when the trio's hands began to descend to places beyond what was expected that Y/n leaned against the wall to catch his breath. His chest was heaving, and his lipstick, which had once been only on his mouth, was now down to his chin.
Thomas and Zendaya moved away from each other as soon as they missed Y/n, who stared at them laughing to herself.
“Holy shit” The woman fixed her hair, smiling at the couple in front of her.
“I didn't expect it to be… good.” The Briton said without thinking, causing a deafening silence that was broken by the women's laughter at the embarrassed look.
“Me neither,” Zendaya replied, smiling at the woman in black.
Finally, the sequence of four photos came out in black and white, eliciting a satisfied smile from Y/n. The woman nodded, showing the photo to the couple who also agreed with a drunken laugh.
1 day later
Breaking News! On Sunday morning (23), a photo was posted on Marvel actor @Tomholland2013's Instagram, which shows a sequence of four photos in which he, his girlfriend, Y/N L/N and actress Zendaya Coleman are seen kissing! Y/N L/N and Thomas Holland have been dating since 2019, but there were rumors that Zendaya was the main one in the relationship after fans started to ship the couple after the first “Spider-Man: Homecoming” movie. Sources close to the couple say that Thomas and Zendaya were uncomfortable with the rumors influencing their personal lives, and deny such an affectionate relationship off the set We had the pleasure of catching up with Y/N by phone, and the only thing she allowed us to put into this interview was:
“We're THE motherfucking trio”

Tumblr media
Panic. An emotion so blinding, one couldn’t help but feel like they’ve lost their grip on their surroundings, arms not strong enough to keep on guiding them through the rough waves of an ocean so dark even creatures of the night feared the thick blanket they’d end up in. A sensation so strong one's body couldn’t help but let go of whatever forced them to keep on moving, giving up with their heart racing, their lungs aching, and their limbs quivering. A word so simple, yet filled with letters that needed too much time to roll off one’s tongue.
(Y/n) was all too used to this very sensation, body quickly adapting to the waves of panic that would roll upon her, drowning her before she could snap into motion, finding a calm and quiet place to hide. Ever since she had been a young girl, (y/n) had struggled with the sudden attacks her mind pushed her into, forced to endure the physical and mental pain, and now, years after her first ever panic attack, she still hadn’t picked up on her triggers, wondering what set the attacks off.
“Mom forced me to invite you, so I expect you to turn up.” Her sister’s voice rang through the speakers of (y/n)’s phone, words she no longer picked up on, eyes struggling to stay open, breaths shallow and uneven. With her trembling legs guiding her through the hallways of the building she knew better than her childhood home, (y/n) trusted her body to find shelter in a quiet place. “(Y/n)! Don’t tell me you’re panicking again.”
Before her mind could even begin to form a reply, her thumb had ended the call, cutting off her ranting sister. Tears welled up in her eyes, momentarily making it harder for her to see, pushing past students that didn’t spare the young woman any attention, though scoffing at her whenever she collided with their shoulders or bags.
The familiar building had always felt like home to her, the warm atmosphere lingering in the air, cosying her along, stroking her limbs like an invisible hug, but today the white hallways had nothing calm and quiet to them, making her feel trapped, uneasy, and confused. Her feet came to a sudden halt in front of the office she had been in numerous times before, finding her way to this room every Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday morning and afternoon, holding onto the essays she was supposed to grade, the prints she was supposed to hand out.
With trembling fingers (y/n) tried to unlock the door, miserably failing as the first of many tears to come rolled down her warm cheek. A silent “Fuck” left her lips, skin graced by the marks of her teeth, desperately trying to keep her cries bottled in. She was too focused on the cold key her fingers kept clinging to as if it was her lifeline, to notice the approaching figure. Her breath hitched in her chest as a warm hand gently pushed hers away, grasping the key to unlock the office.
No words were spoken as she was pushed into the room, all too gently. Before (y/n) could even try to blink away her tears, two hands cupped her cheeks, forcing her eyes to get lost in the dark ones staring at her, rich of a colour so brown one couldn’t help but think of autumn evenings, clinging to the smell of coffee, to the warmth that would spread through their system.
“Deep breaths, love. You can do it.” Professor Holland’s voice rang in her ears, forcing (y/n) to breathe with him. It wasn’t the first time the young professor guided her through one of her attacks, wasn’t the first time he had stumbled upon her in a state like this. “That’s it, you’re doing so well. C’mon, let's sit down.”
With one hand placed on the small of her back, Professor Holland guided her towards the black couch, helping her sit down before he let go of her. Deep breaths were inhaled into her lungs as if she was about to take a dive, preparing her body for the upcoming moments. She watched him fill a glass with water, pushing it into her hand before he finally sat down next to her. Professor Holland’s hand kept stroking her back, drawing shapes onto the fabric of her shirt, not daring to speak up just yet.
“I’m sorry.” (Y/n) cringed at the croaky sound of her voice, eyes directed onto the wooden flooring of his office, counting the spots and marks she could find. His hand didn’t stop moving, eyes searching her features for a few seconds before he broke the silence that had followed her words.
“Nothing to apologise for, love. I’m glad I found you, I don't want you going through this alone.” A smile began to widen on her lips, finally able to look at the professor, taking in the handsome face she’d see in her dreams, living a life where they weren’t forced to stick to the hierarchy they were forced to live with. “Want to tell me what set it off this time?”
“T’was my sister, she’s about to get married.” Professor Holland didn’t know much about (y/n)’s family life, yet he had gathered enough information over the past months to understand that she wasn’t close with her family, an outsider those she had grown up with had never accepted. “I won’t survive this, I don’t even know why they want me to come, it’s not like I’ve been invited to other gatherings.”
His heart clenched in his chest, feeling the pain that dripped from her words, a pain (y/n) was all too used to yet had never managed to get rid of. It had taken her years to accept her fucked up home life, wondering why she had ended up in this very mess, forced away from home, from the parents that have never given her any of their love, from the sister that has always taunted her. As a young girl (y/n) had found herself growing jealous of her friends and the relationship they had with their parents, a blinding pain that had grown rather dull over the past years.
“You don’t have to go there, don’t force yourself to go through this.” His calm voice managed to rip her out of the ocean of sadness she was swimming through before another wave could drown her, eyes snapping up to meet his. (Y/n) slowly nodded her head, trying to think through the choices she had, and yet she knew that she’d go home either way, a desperate try to find her way back into the family home she hadn’t stepped foot in in years.
“Is it wrong of me that I kind of want to go back? I don’t know why, but it feels like I have no choice here.” His hand stopped moving, forced away from her back into his lap, but his eyes never strayed from her features, from the trails her salty tears had left behind on her cheeks.
“You do have a choice, (y/n). But if you really want to go there, I would be happy to accompany you.” She choked on her breaths, wondering if her mind was playing a trick on her. He intensely studied her, waiting for his TA to speak up, and yet she couldn’t. (Y/n) stumbled over her words, not expecting the young professor to offer her a chance like this.
The two of them had never spent any time outside of his office and classroom together, a strictly professional relationship that had somehow turned into a friendship throughout the past months. He had been right there for her whenever she needed him, helping her through her attacks, helping her with questions about other courses, a guiding hand she was clinging to, scared to ever let go.
“No, I wouldn’t want you to endure this, I’ll manage. But thank you.” A tight smile was shot his way before her eyes broke contact, focusing on her bag and the essays she still had left to grade. She reached for the stack of papers, hands wiping her cheeks clean in order to distract her racing thoughts, not daring to focus on the offer he had spoken moments ago.
“Give yourself some time to think about it, my offer still stands.”
……
With her eyes focused on the screen of her laptop, (y/n) found herself rereading the email she had received last night. Her sister’s wedding invite, emailed to her, while the others had probably received a letter, once again proving to (y/n) that her sister didn’t even know where she lived, where her life had guided her to.
Professor Holland’s voice kept ringing in her ears, weighing her options, trying to paint a picture of the upcoming weeks. How would she even explain to her family that he was her professor, the man she was working for? How would she explain to those that wanted to see her fail that she was still single, preferring to focus on her studies rather on men that would eventually break her heart?
Her fingers itched, wanting to reach for her phone, wanting to call him, to take him up on his offer. And as (y/n) reread the simple “I expect you to turn up” her sister had added to the email, she finally gave in. It took the professor a few rings to pick up the phone, speaking her name all too brightly.
“I, uhm, do you still want to go to the wedding with me?” A chuckle left the man, forcing her lips to give into the smile wanting to widen.
“Of course I do. It’s next weekend, right? Email me the information you have and we'll figure it out together.”
……
“Thank you, professor.” He had taken her bag from her, stuffing it into his boot before he opened the passenger door for her. Both were about to leave their city, driving through the country to make their way to (y/n)’s childhood home, to the family she didn’t want to see, to old memories she had buried six feet under as if the old (y/n) had been killed by her own hands.
“I think we can switch to first names now, Tom’s just fine, love.” Heat filled her body, a warmth so unfamiliar her heart couldn’t help but skip a few beats. She whispered his name as Tom rounded the car, checking his phone one last time before he started his car. It would take them a few hours to make it to their destination, forced to spend time together with no way out, allowing the two to learn more about one another.
“Tell me about your family, what should I know about them?” Her eyes were focused on the road ahead, on the passing by buildings, and the unfamiliar faces she’d never seen again. An all too familiar nervousness began to spread through her system, making her tense in the comfortable leather seat of his SUV.
“There’s not much to know, I don’t even know the man my sister’s marrying. I last saw them when I left home to study. But I think my parents will like you, they are quite good at faking our relationship when others are around.” His hand found her knee before (y/n) could even begin to understand what he was doing, eyes finding the slender fingers of his. Tom squeezed her knee, silently encouraging her to keep on talking, promising her that he was right there, that he wouldn’t let go. “I don’t know how to explain to them why you’re coming with me, but I doubt they’ll start a conversation with me.”
(Y/n) watched his eyebrows furrow, tongue darting out to wet his lower lip, pondering over his words for a few moments before he spoke up. His hand didn’t dare move away from her knee, breaking every law and rule the two were supposed to stick to, breaking the professional barrier they’ve built over the past months.
“We can always tell them that I’m your partner, they don’t have to know anything else. If you’re comfortable with that of course.” Tom tried to pull his hand away, seemingly picking up on the unprofessionalism of his gestures, suddenly panicking deep inside. (Y/n)’s hand darted out to find his, placed on top of his warm fingers, slowly interlacing hers with his.
“I’d like that, thank you, Tom.”
……
“Welcome, come on in.” (Y/n) had a hard time focusing on her mother’s piercing eyes, filled with a bleakness so familiar, she felt herself being hauled back in time, stuck in the body of her younger self. Her body screamed at her to hide, to duck her head – a desperate try to escape her mother’s wrath. But the hand Tom had placed on her waist gave (y/n) enough reassurance, faking a smile. “You didn’t tell us you’re bringing someone, (y/n).”
(Y/n) had to bite down the “We haven’t spoken since last year” that threatened to leave her, only murmuring a small “Sorry”.
“It’s good to meet you, I’m Tom, (y/n)’s boyfriend.” Her mother seemingly froze, eyes flickering between the two of them before she slowly took the hand Tom had stretched out for her to shake. Before either one of them could speak up, (y/n)’s sister appeared, eyes wandering up and down (y/n)’s frame, unable to bite down the annoyance flushing through her system.
“If we had known you’re bringing a date we would have prepared a bigger room for you, but I’m sure the guest cabin will do just fine.” (Y/n)’s mind got stuck on the first part of her sister’s sentence, unable to stop herself from asking the question rolling off her tongue.
“What happened to my room?” Her mother’s and sister’s laugh echoed through the entrance hall of their mansion, eyes finding one another’s features. Tom tightened his grip on her waist, pulling her closer with a sigh leaving him, already fed up with the way (y/n) was being treated.
“Oh please, (y/n). You’re never home, you didn’t expect us to leave it for you to return, did you?” No reply left (y/n), struggling to breathe through the sadness that once again found its way back to her, the only emotion she could clearly identify, stuck in an overwhelming mess of different sensations. “Anyways, you remember the way to the guest cabin? We will eat dinner at six.”
With a nod shot their way, (y/n) started moving, pushing past the mother-daughter-duo with Tom hot on her heels. No words were spoken as she guided him through the mansion, finally finding their way outside. She had her eyes focused on the small cabin that had been built on the other end of the big garden years ago, following the stone path.
“Are you okay?” Tom broke the silence the second the door to the cabin fell shut, allowing the two to finally breathe. He pulled her into his chest the second he noticed the way her shoulders were slumped, heavy breaths leaving her aching lungs. (Y/n) couldn’t help but deeply inhale his scent, the mixture of cologne and tea she loved all too much, a scent that managed to still her racing heart.
“I’m sorry about them.” She murmured her words against the fabric of his shirt, eyes fluttering close once again as Tom’s hand found the back of her head, cradling her even closer.
“You have nothing to be sorry for, it’s not your fault they are treating you like this. We’ll have our fun, I promise.”
……
Her eyes couldn’t find something to focus on, wandering through the room that had nothing familiar to it. She was surrounded by a few familiar though mainly unfamiliar faces, people that were getting lost in conversations with one another. (Y/n) was sitting next to Tom, vis-à-vis her father and mother. Years ago their dining room had been (y/n)’s favourite place in the big mansion, a room filled with quietness for most parts of the day, allowing the girl to eat her meals on her own, while the others stuck to a routine different to hers.
“So, Tom, what do you do?” Her father’s gruff voice ripped (y/n) out of her trance, eyes flickering back to the features of her father. The man had clearly aged, and yet (y/n) had never seen much of him to tell what had changed about him, besides the now grey hairs of his.
“I’m a professor, I teach and do research at the university (y/n) works at.” Tom’s voice had an all too friendly undertone to it, a sound (y/n) was all too used to. She had always admired the kindness he exuded, the way he took his time to explain subjects to those that clearly struggled, and yet he always made his students feel important, giving them enough reasons to do well on their homework, on his difficult exams.
“I assume you’re not working in the same department as (y/n)? We wouldn’t want people to think our daughter is sleeping around for good grades and a well paid salary.” Tom choked on the sip of wine he had just forced down his throat, eyes changing to an even darker tone, filled with anger, disgust, and confusion. While (y/n) was used to her parents' demotions, Tom clearly struggled to accept the way they were talking to her.
“Your daughter is one of the brightest and most hard working students in the faculty, it’s a shame you don’t seem to pick up on it.” His eyes didn’t dare leave her parents' surprised features. “It’s been a long day, I think we need some rest, don’t we, love?” Tom rose from his seat before (y/n) could reply, taking his outstretched hand to follow him out of the dining hall without looking back once. Her heart was racing, pumping hot blood through her veins, forcing her to tremble. Not once had somebody dared to defend her in front of her parents, not once had somebody stood up for her, a new sensation she’d probably never get used to.
The two came to a halt in the garden, engulfed by the orange and pink colours of the setting sun, leaving a mesmerising shadow on their features, nature’s finest spectacle even those fighting for ancient cities had been fortunate enough to admire. Tom cupped her cheek, forcing (y/n) to look at him, “Don’t let their words get to you, I meant every word I said. And deep down you know they are true, right?”
Her throat felt tight, unable to speak up, only able to slowly nod her head. The pull inside her chest grew stronger, moving even closer towards Tom, closing the small gap between them. She was searching his closeness like Hades had searched for Persephone, making flowers bloom in springtime, rebirthing their love every month they got to spend together. A tragic fate only Orpheus and Eurydice could understand, the ancient couple lost in the depth of the Underworld.
Before (y/n) could pick up on the small movements, Tom had dipped his head down, lips ghosting over hers, not closing the gap just yet. No longer was (y/n) able to breathe, stuck in the nervousness that had taken her body and soul hostage, begging the man to finally give in. The sound of Tom’s ringing phone ripped the two out of their trance, eyes wide as they broke contact, chasing the distance that left their hearts aching. And while Tom picked up the call with annoyance filling his every word, (y/n) found shelter in the cabin, finding rest on the bed they’d share for the upcoming night.
……
“Good morning.” Tom’s raspy voice left (y/n) smiling, eyes fluttering open to find his. He was standing at the foot of their shared bed, upper body bare, curls held back by a thin hairband. With two cups of coffee in his hands, he rounded the bed, gently setting her cup down. “It’s almost nine, thought you’d like to have enough time to get ready.”
“Thank you, when did you wake up?” Her eyes couldn’t help but wander, taking in his chiselled figure, the abs that tensed whenever he moved, the back muscles that flexed as he turned away from her, reaching for his phone.
“About two hours ago, I went for a run. It’s a beautiful area around here.” A hum left (y/n), taking a sip of the warm beverage before her eyes fluttered close once again. Today was the day of the wedding, forcing her and Tom to put on their best act, trying to bite back any comments that threatened to leave them. She felt his eyes on her, studying her for a few moments before he moved towards the bed, sitting down next to her. (Y/n) tried to keep her eyes shut, relishing in the calmness they were engulfed by, the quietness that would break any moment now.
Tom’s hand found her shoulder, pulling her into his chest, careful not to spill her coffee. His warmth forced goosebumps to rise on her arms, making her tremble in his grasp, and yet she didn’t dare flee from their shared body contact. It had taken her a while to fall asleep yesterday evening, mind not daring to let go of the moment that had been interrupted by Tom’s ringing phone, the kiss that had been broken apart before it could happen. Even as Tom had found his way to bed, minutes after (y/n), her heart hadn’t been able to stop racing, pumping blood through her body, hot blood that made her tense.
“I don’t want to get up.” Her words left Tom chuckling, hand stroking her head in a calming matter, not daring to break her out of her state just yet. “But I also know we can’t miss breakfast.”
“Grab a shower, take your time, and then we’ll get some food.” With a huff rumbling through her, (y/n) slowly rose from her position, setting her cup down before she stretched. Tom’s eyes didn’t leave her frame once, following her around like a shadow sewn to her boots, appearing the second the sun managed to break through the thick blanket of clouds. She found pride in the way Tom looked at her, momentarily letting go of the roles they had to take on back home, of the job she had to fulfil.
With the hot water cascading down her back, (y/n) allowed her mind to wander, her thoughts to race, painting a picture so clear it felt like she was reliving a memory. (Y/n) could almost feel Tom’s lips pressed against hers, could imagine how he’d touch her, hands running up and down her sides, slowly disappearing underneath the fabric of her shirt. Fuck, it’d be so simple, and yet so wrong.
Heat began to thump through her veins, forcing its way down between her thighs, making her body burn with pleasure. Her hands wanted to move down to her aching core, desperate to get rid of the need she found herself guided by, wanting to feel Tom pressed against her. But her mind managed to rip her out of her body’s call before she could touch herself, forcing her to step out of the shower, very well aware of the fact that today’d be stressful, not allowing her to rest.
“I hope the day will pass soon.” (Y/n) murmured the words as they walked towards her parents mansion, picking up on the sound of chatter filling the air, mansion once again filled with friends, family members, and colleagues that paid the young couple no attention. Tom didn’t dare leave her side, hand holding hers, making her heart jump in her chest whenever his thumb began to stroke the skin of her hand. Those were the moments that left her forgetting that this was just a charade, a fake relationship she’d leave behind tomorrow afternoon, forced to return back to their normal lives. A game she was losing, giving into the call of her heart, rather than following the warnings her mind spoke.
(Y/n)’s eyes couldn’t help but wander through the crowd, studying her parents, her sister, and the man she was marrying today. They seemed to fit in perfectly, giving off the feeling of a perfect match of two happy parents and their only child, with (y/n) long forgotten. She tried to ignore the sadness simmering inside of her, tried to let go of the longing she felt, wanting to be included in the routine they have mastered over the years.
“Hey,” Tom murmured the word, fingers finding her chin to force her face back towards him. Their eyes met, his glistening with anticipation, hers filled with tears, tears Tom desperately wanted to get rid of. His eyes flickered down to her lips before they found their way back towards her eyes. “They’re not worth it. You don’t need their love, not when they can’t appreciate the love you want to share.”
And then he kissed her. Just a peck. Lips meeting hers for a way too short second. A touch (y/n)’s mind would never forget, clinging to the memory that was now etched into her mind. With a smile tugging on his lips, Tom turned away from her, focusing on his plate, a moment (y/n) mimicked, with her teeth buried in her grinning lowere lip and her tears long forgotten.
……
“There you are, I was looking for you.” Tom sat down next to (y/n), finding rest on the comfortable wooden bench placed away from the tables filled with guests. Soft music echoed through the air, somewhat managing to drown out (y/n)’s darker thoughts. She had her eyes focused on the sky, filled with stars, planets her eyes couldn’t make out.
“Sorry, I didn’t want to interrupt your conversation.” Throughout the day Tom and (y/n) had tried to make conversations with the guests sitting close to them, a few friendly faces that asked questions, that showed interest in their connections to the family. Tom had been engrossed in a conversation with another professor, sharing stories of students, of their research, allowing (y/n) to disappear before anybody noticed her leaving.
“You wouldn’t have interrupted anything, you doing okay though? It’s been a long day.” It had been a long day indeed, filled with running from one place to another, while trying to avoid those neither (y/n) nor Tom wanted to share any words with. Nevertheless, the wedding had been beautiful, hours Tom had used to hold her close, fingers fumbling with hers, eyes taking in every inch of her gorgeous features. And yet, (y/n) wasn’t tired, wasn’t exhausted enough to search for the comfort of their shared bed.
“Mhm, thank you for coming here with me.” Their eyes met, sharing a gaze so intense Tom struggled to reply. Ever since he had kissed her this very morning, both hadn’t been able to think of anything else, the short contact both wanted to chase again, needing to close the gap. Her heart called out to his, desperately hoping that he’d give in.
Tom’s body seemed to pick up on her desperateness, slowly dipping his head down, giving her a few more moments to pull away before he closed the gap between them. The kiss was slow, at least at first, allowing the two to get used to the contact, eyes closed to purely focus on one another. Tom’s hands pulled her into his lap, needing to feel every part of her body pressed against his, hearts pounding as the kiss grew more heated.
“I,” the syllable rolled off Tom’s tongue, forehead pressed against hers as both tried to catch their breath.
“Don’t say we can’t do this, please.” Her words left him smiling, slowly shaking his head before he kissed her again, and again. (Y/n)’s fingers tugged on his curls, holding onto him as she ground her middle against his, feeling his hardening cock pressing against the fabric of his trousers. Both were panting, clearly riled up, guided by the passion that kept thumping through their veins.
“Let’s move this inside, huh?” Tom’s eyes flickered back to the crowd of guests, dancing to the slow music, enjoying meals and drinks on the other side of the garden. His hand didn’t dare let go of hers as they made their way to their shared cabin, cherishing the quietness that lingered in the wooden home. Their lips found their way back together, hands tugging on their clothes, desperate to touch one another.
“Fuck, we really shouldn’t do this.” Her heart skipped a few beats, wondering if he’d pull away, if he’d stop touching her, but all Tom did was stare at (y/n), getting lost in her dilated pupils. “But I’ve been fucked the second I met you, I’m too selfish to stop.”
Her chuckles were drowned out by the gasp ripping through her, body colliding with the mattress of their shared bed. Tom nestled between her thighs, fingers fumbling with the zipper of her dress before he managed to pull the fabric off her body. His wide eyes wandered up and down her frame, giving (y/n) enough time to unbutton his shirt, exposing his upper body to her eyes, the abs she had wanted to touch since this very morning.
“Touch me, please, Tom. Let me feel you.” With a growl leaving him, Tom worked on her bra, fabric finding its way to the ground. He undid his trousers before he joined her on the bed, hovering over her, cock pressing against the fabric of his underwear, desperate to be freed. Tom’s thin lips kissed their way down her body, hands cupping her breasts, enjoying how her body reacted to his every touch.
“Need to taste you, fuck, been thinking of doing it for too long.” He sucked marks into the skin covering her hip bones before he tugged her panties down her legs, marvelling at the sight of her cunt, of her arousal covered folds. “All for me? Look at you, so desperate for me.”
“Just for you.” (Y/n)’s whispers left his heart racing, eyes fluttering close as he brushed his tongue through her slit, collecting drops of her arousal. (Y/n)’s hands couldn’t help but tug on his locks, trying to push him even closer to her cunt, needing to feel more. His thumb circled her bundle of nerves, wanting to see and feel her tremble beneath him, a pretaste of their upcoming moments together.
Their bodies worked perfectly together, searching their closeness like drowning soldiers clinging onto the last pieces of their destroyed rafts, begging to the gods above to rescue them. But there was nothing left to rescue, the waves had already swallowed them whole, filling their aching lungs with the pleasure that was now guiding them.
“Your fingers, please.” (Y/n) mewled her words, back arched off the bed, legs trembling against his arms. Tom’s eyes flickered up to her pleasure drunken features, unable to bite down his smirk as he pushed two fingers into her cunt, forcing her walls apart, allowing a heavy moan to roll off her tongue. Her breaths grew shallow, unable to breathe through the new sensation, needing to adjust to the feeling of his curled fingers, of the way he pushed her further and further towards the edge.
The eventual fall would rip her from this very life, transported into another dimension she was still unfamiliar to, getting to know her body and the feelings she wasn’t used to yet.
“I want you to cum around my cock, but I won’t push you any further if you don’t want to.” His voice had an unfamiliar seriousness to it, making her lift her head off the pillow, eyes finding his. A simple “I want it all” left (y/n), leaving Tom chuckling, letting go of her to pull his boxers down his legs. His cock was throbbing, tip dark red and beaded with drops of precum.
(Y/n)’s eyes couldn’t stop taking in his frame, mouth watering at the sight of him, needing to explore every inch of the body she had been dreaming of. While she was stuck in her trance, Tom reached for his bag, rolling a condom down his cock before he rejoined her on the bed. One of his hands found hers, linking their fingers together before he positioned himself at her entrance. Their eyes didn’t dare break contact as he pushed into her, moaning at the tightness that engulfed his cock, walls squeezing him just like he had imagined they would.
“Christ, I can’t wait to fuck you on every surface, to fuck you dumb, till you forget your own name.” His words left her gasping, mind struggling to focus on anything but the way he fucked into her, slow strokes that grew rougher with every passing moment. Tom wasn’t taking it easy on her, pushing the limits with a smirk glued to his lips. Both had imagined this moment numerous times before, hands taking care of their longing, wondering if they’d ever be fortunate enough to experience this together.
With her legs slung around his waist, (y/n) forced her heels into the small of his back, allowing Tom to fuck deeper into her, needing to feel her tremble. Tears welled up in her eyes, tears of desperation, tears of relief, finally able to give into the longing she had felt for months. With her toes curled and her eyes rolling back into her head, (y/n) was close to giving in, close to letting go, praying that Tom would follow her down the edge.
Tom’s eyes didn’t stray from her features, admiring the gorgeous woman beneath him, thanking whoever was listening for pushing her into his life. He felt her walls flutter around him, forcing his thumb to find its way back to her pulsing bundle, circling her clit to give her the final push.
(Y/n) came with a cry of his name, fingernails clawed into his skin, leaving marks he would admire in his bathroom mirror for days to come. He fucked her through her high, only letting go as he felt her relax, limbs quivering against his body. Curses rolled off his tongue, ringing in her ears, too loud to be drowned out by the soft music that still filled the air.
Carefully Tom pulled out of her, disposing of the condom before he found his way back to her, pulling (y/n) into his chest. The both were heavily breathing, minds racing to try and understand what had just happened. Silence engulfed the two, a silence that was eventually interrupted by (y/n)’s chuckles, head buried in the crook of his neck.
“I can’t believe we just did that.” His laughter rumbled in his chest, hand forcing her to lift her head, pressing another kiss to her lips. Their eyes studied one another, hoping that the moment would last forever, not interrupted by her family, by the call of their homes.
“It’ll take us a while to figure this out, but I’m willing to try, if you are as well.” She could only nod her head, finding rest with her head placed on his chest, getting lost in the tune of his racing heart.
Their ships had left the harbour months ago, sunken to the cold ocean, their crews had drowned in waves of pleasure, filling their lungs like poison swallowing one whole. But the soaring waves would eventually calm down, allowing them to make it back ashore, guided by the tides of drowned affection.

Fire Meet Gasoline
Pairing: Arvin Russel x Reader
Synopsis: when you see your ex boyfriend in public, you ask the closet stranger to pretend to be your boyfriend

Tumblr media
Arvin wasn’t one to offer help to people, much less a stranger, but you had caught his eye. He stood by his car after filling his tank with gas and watched you stare at the gas pumps with a puzzled look on your face. He had seen you pull into the gas station with such confidence, but that was all gone now that you had to pick the right pump to put in your car. Arvin debated driving away and letting you figure it out by yourself since after all, he didn’t even know you. But after watching you hesitantly reaching for the diesel for the third time, he decided to speak up.
“Need help miss?” He asked as he approached you. You stiffened up at the sound of his voice and took an instinctive step away from him.
“No. I’m fine, thanks.” You replied without looking at him.
“You sure about that?” Arvin asked as he watched you hesitantly pick up the diesel pump.
“Said I don’t need any help from the likes of you, all right?” You said again. “Just leave me alone and go on your way.”
“Sorry miss. Didn’t mean to trouble you. Just noticed you was putting diesel in your car, is all.” Arvin said and raised his hands in defense.
“Diesel?” You paused and looked down at the pump in your hands.
“Yeah, darling. That right there is diesel.”
“Psh. I knew that. I like diesel.” You lied and brought the pump over to your car.
“Oh, my bad. Didn’t know that. Can I ask if you also like your car blowing up?” Arvin asked sarcastically.
“Excuse me?”
“Diesel will clog your fuel system and keep the car from startin. If you push the gas pedal too much, whole car will burst in flames. Seen it happen right in front of me once. The guy barely made it out alive.”
“Oh.” You froze and looked down at the pump in your hands.
“Could help you out, if you like.” He offered again.
“No thank you. I said I was fine.” You repeated, in a kinder tone this time. Arvin nodded and took a step back as he watched you put the diesel pump back. You looked between the other two pumps for a minute before hesitantly grabbing the one in the middle.
“Um….” You hesitatingly looked to Arvin to see if you were about to make another fatal mistake. He shook his head and held up one finger to let you know you needed pump number one. You gave him a tight smile before putting back the pump in your hand and picking up the first one. You put the pump in your car and just stood there until Arvin put his hand over yours to squeeze the pump. You felt the gas flow out and looked at Arvin with an embarrassed smile.
“Thanks.” You said quietly.
“No problem, doll.” He chuckled and felt his face flush from how close you were.
“Sorry I was short with you before. I have a hard time trusting men sometimes.” You admitted without looking into his eyes.
“Yeah? Seems we have that in common.”
“I just didn’t know if you were gonna fill my car up and then try to get me to repay you or something.”
“Repay me?”
“You know. With a kiss or something.”
“Darling, I’m no gentlemen, but I’m no villain either. I’d never try and get you to do something you didn’t want to do. Just saw a pretty lady struggling and wanted to offer my help. That’s all.” Arvin assured you, and you felt yourself believing him.
“Oh. Well thats very nice of you. Sorry I was rude.”
“No need to be sorry. Got a sister back home and I hope she’s half as vigilant as you are. Can’t trust nobody in this town. Especially not the men.” Arvin said and looked around the gas station.
“Don’t I know it.” You sighed. Arvin noticed the sadness in your voice and gave you a long look. He hadn’t seen you around before, which was strange since he thought he knew everyone in town. You were awfully pretty and the fact that you were a little mean to him made him like you even more.
“My names Arvin, by the way.” He told you.
“Y/n.” You smiled warmly at him.
“Nice to meet you, Y/n.” He returned the smile.
“You too, Arvin. Thanks again for the lesson.” You replied. You finished pumping the gas in your car and watched as Arvin returned the pump so you would know what to do next time.
“I’m really smart, by the way.” You said after a beat of silence.
“Huh?” He laughed in surprise.
“I’m really smart. I’m a school teacher down by the church. I went to college too. And I was the top of my class.” You told him, adding something every time you thought of a different example of your intelligence.
“Is that so?” Arvin asked, still confused what point you were making.
“I’m just telling you this so you don’t think I’m some dumb damsel in distress. I’m usually very smart but my daddy used to fill my car for me and never taught me how. He said it wasn’t a lady’s job to do it.”
“Well where’s your daddy now? Cause somebody needs to stop you from blowing yourself up.” Arvin chuckled.
“He don’t speak to me no more.” You said quietly, making Arvin feel guilty for poking fun at you.
“Oh. Sorry to hear that.” He said sincerely.
“It’s fine. I know what to do now thanks to you.“
“It was no trouble, darling. And next time, use this pump. Stay away from the diesel.” Arvin said and tapped the correct pump.
“I will. Thank you.” You smiled at him before looking over his shoulder. Arvin watched the way your smile dropped and the color drained from your face.
“Oh shoot.” You whispered.
“What’s wrong? Look like you’ve seen a ghost.” Arvin frowned and looked over his shoulder to try to find what you were looking at.
“My ex boyfriends just pulled up.” You gulped and pointed. Arvin immediately felt curious to see what kind of guy you used to date to see if he had a chance with you. When he saw a man in a red and white pinstripe shirt and white pants coming out of a flashy car, he cracked an amused smile.
“That candy ass used to be your boyfriend?” Arvin couldn’t help but laugh.
“Hush. He’ll hear you.” You whispered desperately and tugged on Arvins shirt to get him to stand in front of you.
“How come he’s dressed like a candy cane?” Arvin genuinely asked as he used his body to block you from your ex boyfriends view.
“I mean it, Arvin. Hush up.” You whispered harshly.
“Whats got you so wound up, baby doll? Did he take the breakup hard or something?”
“Truth is, he used to beat up on me.” You admitted. “It took all the strength I had to leave him. If he sees me right now, I’m scared of what he might do to get me back.”
“He beat on you?” Arvin looked over his shoulder again and felt his hands ball into fists. He found your unwillingness to be seen funny before, but was furious now. He looked at your ex with a clenched jaw and took a protective step in front of you.
“I’m sorry. I shouldn’t be telling all this to a stranger.” You apologized, making Arvin look at you like you were crazy. He put his hands on your shoulders and rubbed up and down to try and calm you down.
“No, no it’s okay, darling. I don’t mind the story. Just mind the characters.” Arvin assured you before giving your ex another angry look. He didn’t want to lose his temper in front of you, but the thought of this pretentious guy beating up a school teacher was making his blood boil. He could feel his face getting hotter the longer he looked at your ex and the urge to beat him up got stronger.
“I know this is a little crazy to ask, but would you mind…” You started to ask but trailed off.
“Mind what?”
“Nothing. Forget it. Never mind.” You shook your head.
“Just ask me, darling. Worst I’ll say is no.”
“Would you mind doing something to make him think we’re together? Like kissing me or something?” You whispered through an embarrassed smile.
“Oh, so now you do want me to kiss you? I thought you were mean to me because you didn’t want me to try and kiss you.” Arvin smiled teasingly. He knew the gravity of the situation and was trying to calm you down a little so you wouldn’t be freaked out.
“I know what I said before.” You rolled your eyes. “But this is important. If he thinks I got a boyfriend, he’ll leave me alone.”
“I see. And you want me to pretend to be your boyfriend?”
“Just until he’s gone.”
“I think I can manage that.” Arvin shrugged before pulling you into a kiss. He slipped and arm around your waist and pressed you against your car to kiss you, taking your breath away in the process. You didn’t feel time moving as you kissed him but did feel the fear leaving your body. After spending the last eight months thinking all love ever did was break and burn and end, you felt it begin again. When you pulled away, you looked into Arvins eyes, no longer feeling like he was a stranger.
“Well I’ll be. Didn’t think I’d be seeing you ever again, toots. What are you doing here?” Your ex asked, making you and Arvin jump in surprise. You’d been so engrossed in each other that you hadn’t heard him walk up. Arvin could feel you shaking so he tightened his grip on your waist and shifted his body weight forward in a threatening way.
“What are we doing here? At the gas station? Take a fat fucking guess, dip shit. We’re putting gas in her car.” Arvin scoffed and looked at your ex like it was ridiculous to ask. You let out a shocked laugh and turned your face to the side to try and hide it. Your ex noticed the way Arvins arm was around you and his eyes darkened.
“I’m sorry, who the hell is this?” He asked you, the anger in his voice giving you flashbacks to worse times.
“Arvin Russel. Y/n’s boyfriend. And you are?” Arvin asked and held out a hand. You could tell this bothered your ex to hear you had a new boyfriend and felt your power come back to you. His face turned white as he looked at Arvin in shock. You tightened your grip on Arvin and looked up at him with a loving smile to really sell your story.
“Chuck Greenwood.” Chuck said and hesitantly shook Arvins hand. Arvin made sure to squeeze Chucks hand hard enough to make it hurt as he shook it.
“I didn’t realize you had a boyfriend.” Chuck said to you as he pulled his hand away from Arvin.
“Well I do.” You shrugged and leaned in Arvin. Chucks eyes brewed with jealousy as he watched the two of you.
“I guess I would’ve known that if you ever answered my calls. Must be too busy moving on. Which you did pretty fast, one might say. Didn’t realize you were such a quick girl.” Chuck said in a condescending tone.
“Fuck you, Chuck.” You scoffed, taking everyone by surprise.
“What did you just say to me?” Chuck raised his voice.
“Believe she said fuck you, Chuck.” Arvin repeated with a shrug.
“Yeah. I did. I don’t answer your calls cause I don’t want to hear your nasty, agitating voice no more. And I moved on fast because I knew the entire time that I was with you that I wanted something better for myself. So as soon as I got away from you, I went and found better. And you don’t get to be mad about that.” You stated. You weren’t shaking anymore but Arvin still kept his arm securely around your waist.
“Who do you think you’re talking to?” Chuck growled and stepped up to you.
“You.” You said and shoved him back. Chuck stumbled back in surprise before clenching his fist. Arvin got ready to fight, but you were one step ahead of him. You grabbed the diesel pump and aimed it at Chuck like it was a gun. Chuck was immediately disarmed and held up his hands.
“You don’t scare me no more. Especially not when you’re dressed like a candy cane.” You said in a low voice. Arvin smiled proudly that you used his insult and leaned against your car to watch you.
“Now get lost before I spray you.” You added and held the pump up higher. Chuck ran away from you, tripping over his own feet before getting into his car to drive away.
“Where did that come from?” Arvin laughed in surprise once you were alone again.
“I have no idea. But it felt really good.” You smiled in excitement as you put the pump back.
“I bet it did. I’m proud of you, darlin. I hope you’re proud of yourself too.” Arvin smiled fondly at you.
“You know, I am. Thanks for your help, Arvin. I couldn’t have done that without you.”
“You’re very welcome, miss. But I think you could’ve gotten along without me just fine. What’s the story with him anyway?”
“He works at the mechanic shop my daddy owns. I don’t have any brothers so Chuck was like a son to him. Was even gonna pass down the family business to him. When I finally told my parents how he’d been treating me…”
“They took his side?” Arvin asked, hoping the answer was no. Instead, you gave him a sad smile and nodded your head.
“My parents said all men were like that. Told me to suck it up and marry him anyway so that we’d have someone to give the family business to once my daddy was gone.”
“I’m sorry, darling. That’s no fair. No fair at all.”
“I know. And that wasn’t even the end of it. When I told my daddy I broke up with Chuck, he told me he never wanted to see me again. Haven’t spoken to him since.” You said with a sad shrug. Arvin frowned and felt the urge to pull you into a hug and tell you everything would be okay. Since you were still pretty much strangers, he just put a hand on your shoulder and gave it a squeeze.
“My daddy wasn’t a good man either. I know it hurts.” He said in a soft tone. You looked into Arvins eyes and could tell this was not an emotion he was used to exhibiting. You gave him an appreciative smile and put your hand over his.
“Something else we have in common then.” You smiled coyly.
“Maybe we should go out sometime. You know, see what else we have in common.” Arvin suggested as a blush painted his cheeks. You noticed this and felt your heart flutter in your chest. For the first time in a long time, you trusted someone new. You took a pen out of your pocketbook before taking Arvins hand and writing your number on his wrist.
“This is my number. I promise I’ll pick up.”
“I promise I’ll call.” He grinned as he read over the number.
“I should really get going. But it was very nice to meet you, Arvin.” You smiled warmly at him and unlocked your car. Arvin opened the door for you so that you could get in, convincing you further that giving him a chance was the right thing to do.
“Was nice to meet you too, doll.” Arvin smirked as he shut your car door for you. You gave him a wave and started your car before pulling away.
“Wait a minute.” Arvin called out and jogged after your car. You stopped the car and rolled down your window to look at him.
“Aren’t you gonna kiss your boyfriend goodbye?” He smiled coyly as he leaned down to your window. You playfully rolled your eyes at him before leaning out the window to kiss him. You knew it was crazy to be kissing a man you just met, even for the second time, but it felt right.
“Goodbye. I mean it this time.” You laughed and pulled away.
When you got home that night, your phone rang before you even had a chance to set your bag down. Your heart skipped a beat as you went over to answer it.
“Hello?” You said into the phone, hoping to hear Arvins voice again.
“Hey.” Arvin replied. “So am I gonna have to wait until the next time you need gas to see you or are you free tomorrow night?”

Bad Decisions - T.H. (1)
Tumblr media
frat!Tom x Reader - Fake dating AU
Summary: Tom and Y/N, two students with opposite personalities, join forces to solve a problem: they both desperately need a fake relationship to escape different social pressures.
MASTERLIST
W/C: +3K
DAY 0
There is an unknown saying that says that every choice is a loss and that good choices will also hurt. Some may say that the best choices are those that are made calmly and cautiously. Choices made on impulse are the most worrying. Taking a risk without thinking about the consequences and not being sure you can deal with them is dangerous.
But perhaps, thinking too much about a decision to be made is not a good option. Sometimes we need to take risks and be willing to face whatever comes our way. Regardless of the need.
That's why you find yourself on an endless tightrope with only two alternatives: keep walking trying to keep your balance without seeing the end or throw yourself towards whatever can hold you before you hit the ground. That whatever being a brown haired boy with stars in his eyes who you call your friend.
‘’Friend” may even be too strong a word for what defines your relationship with the famous Tom Holland, one of the players on the college football team. Known for his charm and great performance on the field, intelligent, friendly and attentive, these are just some of the qualities that define the boy.
What started as just a pair project on social psychology has become a constant in your life. You and Tom worked hard during class and received a high grade due to your research performance and dedication. But what surprised you was Tom's insistence on staying in contact with you.
No stereotypes but truth be told, you would never have exchanged a single word if it weren't for this project. Despite having already crossed each other's path at times, nothing ever went beyond that.
Today, Tom is curled up on the sofa in your living room with a book in his hands, while you are sitting on the floor with a notebook open on the coffee table. Study dates happen frequently between the two of you. Despite his fame, Tom is very focused on his studies and is months away from graduating in psychology, just like you.
"Can we take that break you promised?" He says without looking up from the book but without reading a single word.
"It's been exactly 20 minutes since we started.'' You said.
"Isn't there a study method like this? You study for a few minutes and take a break?"
"I don't think that's how it works, Tommy" You giggled.
"I'm bored" He says, closing the book and throwing it on the table in front of him.
"Studying isn't supposed to be boring. If it is for you, it means you're not learning anything."
"Seriously Y/N, you can't tell me that studying about catharsis and free association is fun" He looked at you in disbelief.
"Tom, this is literally part of the course curriculum... you should have known this when you signed up."
He huffed and lay down on the couch, looking at the ceiling of your living room.
You even tried to turn your attention to the content in front of you but every 30 seconds he would snort, clearly seeking your attention.
"Alright, you win!" You said, letting go of the pen that was in your hand and turning towards the boy lying comfortably on your sofa. "If my grades drop, it's your fault, and don't complain about yours later." He grinned standing up and sitting down.
"As if there's any chance your grades will drop, smartiepants” You rolled your eyes, sitting on the couch next to him. "I'm hungry. What do you say we order something to eat?"
Just as you thought about agreeing, his cell phone went off. He picked it up off the table and you noticed that it was a video call from Brian, one of the other players on the team.
Tom quickly looked at you who just shrugged. He got up answering the call.
"Where are you, bro?" The muffled sound came from the other end of the line.
"What is happening?" Tom asked while watching his friend, clearly out of control of his cell phone, focusing the camera on everything but himself.
"Bro, the party at Taylor's house, did you forget? Everyone's here. She said she invited you and she seems disappointed that you're not here yet. Where are you?” Tom rubbed the back of his neck.
"I'm at Y/N's house." He replied.
"Dude, again? You better be seizing the opportunity and using it to your advantage." Shaking his head, Tom walked to the open balcony door and closed it behind him, making it impossible for you to hear the rest of the conversation.
Even though you know him better now, you also know Tom's reputation around campus. You know that he has been involved with many girls and that he has already broken the hearts of most of them who always expected more from him than he was willing to give.
You also know that most of the kids on the team only think with their other head and not the one above their necks. You know people talk about your friendship with Tom. Everyone thinks you're fucking in secret.
But Tom never took any initiative in this regard. Nor did he show any interest in you in that way, despite the intimacy you very quickly created with each other. There have been a few nights where you shared a bed and even cuddled on the couch while watching a movie. Not to mention the dates you had together but were never named that way.
So everything was always platonic. Two people who understand each other and feel comfortable with each other to share the most intimate moments.
Even though this all happened in just 6 months.
Getting up, you started putting away your study materials, waiting for Tom to say he was going to that party. Surely you lost all desire to study and your only objective from that moment on was to lie in your bed until daylight.
Maybe you could even ask for something to eat and drown your sorrows.
Not 5 minutes had passed and you heard the sliding door to the balcony opening again.
"Hey, did you give up studying?" Tom said looking at the now clean table. His belongings were also already inside the backpack he brought and no longer scattered on the floor.
"Yeah, I thought about going to sleep, actually." Tom looked at you in surprise.
"I thought we were going to order something to eat... then we could watch a movie, that new horror movie you wanted to see just came out."
"It's called Totally Killer..."
"So... what are we waiting for? Would you really rather sleep than hide in my arms when a scene scares the hell out of you?" He said smiling and opening his arms.
"You know I never do that, and if I remember correctly you're the one who has to hide when a movie gets too scary."
"You know that's our secret, don't you?" He said sitting down on the couch.
"I thought you were going to... what's her name? Tina's party?" You said mockingly.
"Taylor, actually. And no, I'm not going there" He said and you sat down next to him.
"Can I know why?"
"You know Y/N... It's Taylor. Taylor Brown."
"Ah, the girl who won't let go of you? I thought she had given up, I haven't heard you talk about her in a while."
Taylor was one of the girls who had created too many expectations after a night with Tom. The problem is that it wasn't just one night. She was one of the only girls Tom almost had a relationship with, they hooked up several times and even hung out together all the time. But just 2 months after meeting you it seems they broke up, with the story that he wasn't ready for a relationship. And since then, Taylor has been looking for any opportunity to be close to Tom.
"She invited me and insisted that I go to the party today. I just spoke to her on the phone..." He sighed, running a hand through his curls. "I don't know what to do anymore Y/N... I made it clear to her that I don't want anything serious but she keeps pushing me."
"Do you want my honest opinion or do you want me to agree with whatever you say?"
"Be honest"
"First of all," You settled down on the couch, facing him, "you shouldn't have hooked up with her at Brian's party two weeks ago. You just fueled the fire even more."
"I was drunk, we kissed. And nothing more than that happened, you know that."
"Yes, I was there helping you when you got sick."
He laid his head back on the couch and closed his eyes.
"I just wanted to take a break from this. I didn't mean to. I don't want to give her hope. I have so many things to think about and a complicated relationship isn't one of them."
Tom is a person completely responsible for his actions. He was raised like this since he was a child. Despite loving football, he knows the importance of his studies and always seeks to improve himself more and more. He still doesn't know what career he wants to follow, as his talent for football was only discovered in his first year of college, but you're sure that whatever side he chooses will be a success. He knows he gets distracted easily and doesn't want to put anything in front of his main goal right now: graduating.
"If relationships weren't something so complicated, who knows..."
"I don't think relationships are complicated... people are." You sighed, moving closer to him and placing your head on his shoulder. "Relationships should be calm and welcoming. Of course, there is no relationship without problems and that's okay. But we are the problem... we are the ones who complicate things.” Tom gently took your hand that was in your lap and intertwined your fingers.
"Sometimes we overthink things. Relationships should be light. Not a weight we have to carry on our shoulders."
"I'm sorry" he said in a whisper as he stroked the back of your hand with his thumb.
Tom knows your story. He knows about the relationship you had that lasted 4 years and you swore it was that once in a lifetime thing. He even met the boy who broke your heart into thousands of pieces and left you to glue them back together alone. He didn't know you at the time, he only found out that your ex-boyfriend was his rival from another university a few months after you met and after he commented on the asshole who almost broke his leg during a match.
You and Sean met two months after classes started at a friendly match between the two universities. He accidentally slipped in front of you while running towards the field and you laughed at him. He flirted with you and promised he would take you out for coffee if he won the game.
His team lost but he kept his word.
It's hard to say when the flame between you went out. And this is something you don't try to think about often. Something inside you changed when Sean decided to leave your life. Maybe the broken pieces of your heart were still lying around, waiting to be fixed.
"It's okay... You don't have to feel about it."
"If I could, I would finish him off."
"Oh, how manly. My savior."
You laughed but soon the laughter was replaced by the silence of the apartment. The two of you continued to sit next to each other maintaining physical contact, Tom held your hand firmly and showed no signs of letting go anytime soon.
That was a constant between you. Even the silence was pleasant. Just each other's breath and presence was enough.
"My sister will be getting married in 2 months." You said.
"Woah, already? That's good isn't it?"
"It seems so." You sighed. "I don't wanna go."
"Why?"
"The last time I was home they wouldn't stop asking me about Sean... even after 5 months since we broke up."
Your family loved Sean. Just like you, at one point they were just waiting for you to announce your engagement.
"Do you need support?" He asked.
"I can't ask that of you"
"If you need me to go as your date it won't be a problem, you don't have to deal with this alone."
"Maybe I'll find a boyfriend in two months. Maybe they'll stop asking me about my ex if I show them I've moved on." You joked.
Silence returned and the two of you remained in the same position. As you closed your eyes, enjoying the calm of the moment, Tom's head was spinning with different thoughts.
That's when he found the solution.
“Y/N, would you like to be my girlfriend?”
"What?" You said scared, raising your head and looking at Tom's profile. "Are you crazy?" You said laughing.
"I meant... my fake girlfriend." He stared at you.
"Tom, you've got to be kidding."
"I'm serious. Think with me, okay?" He said looking at you seriously, which made the smile fall from your face. "You need to introduce someone to your family to forget about your damn ex. And I need to take a break from Taylor and show her that I'm not available."
"Tom... I don't... I don't think that's a good idea." You said, looking at everything around you except his eyes.
"Look, I'm not going to force you into anything... it was just a thought I had given of our situations." He said, settling back down on the couch.
You felt the air in the room change and Tom seemed shy and embarrassed by what he had just proposed.
"Tommy, this could end badly. I don't want things to get complicated between us."
"You know you don't need to, nothing has ever been like that with us. But it's okay, forget what I said. It was stupid, I don't know what I was thinking." He said, running his hand over his face.
Tom had already let go of your hand a while ago and suddenly you felt the extreme need to hold his again. But something changed and it was strange. He had just proposed a romantic relationship between the two of you. What would that involve? Kisses, hugs, dates... sex?
"Still hungry? Shall we order something?" You said trying to get back into the mood.
Tom got up quickly.
"Actually, I think I'll go. You said you wanted to sleep, so..."
Surprised by his decision, you stood up as you watched him put his backpack on his back.
"Ah, okay. So, can we watch the movie another day maybe?" You said awkwardly.
"Yeah, another day" He replied in the same tone.
Normally, he would hug you when saying goodbye but this time he just shook his head and walked towards the front door. He also left without looking back.
What just happened?
After Tom left you didn't do much. The hunger you felt completely disappeared too. You took a shower with the intention of relaxing your tense shoulders and then lay down on your bed.
Despite your attempts, nothing could put you into a deep sleep. Millions of thoughts were running through your head at the wrong time. How did Tom think of something like that? Does he feel comfortable with you on that level? Wouldn't that be weird? What could happen to your friendship? What is the limit of a fake relationship?
At some point during the night you decided to use your cell phone and browse social media.
Big mistake.
Angela, a colleague from a previous curricular subject had posted a series of photos and videos a few hours ago. The first photo was nothing more than a selfie in the bathroom mirror with another unknown girl. The following photos already included the place and people present at the party. In any other situation, you wouldn't care much about a specific photo, but due to the events of hours ago you felt heat rush to your face when you saw a photo of Tom with his arms around Taylor.
In fact, one of his arms was resting on her shoulders, while the other was on the shoulders of his best friend Harrison. Seemed friendly, just posing for the photo. But knowing their history, it's suspicious. So he went to the party after being rejected? Does what you did count as one?
At that moment you felt something changing inside you. Would it be a bad idea? Despite the short time, Tom has become a constant in your life and you know that he knows you like no one else. Still with your head racing, you left your cell phone aside and reflected a little more before sleep completely invaded you.
...
Due to the time you spent rolling around in bed before going to sleep, the extra 5 minutes before getting up became almost 30. You barely missed the first class of the day, and despite the teacher's ugly face when he saw you enter 15 minutes after hours, it was very useful. Lily, a friend, was already saving your spot.
"What took you so long?" She whispered.
"I'll tell you later." You replied smiling slightly.
The truth is that only one thing was on your mind this morning: finding Tom.
The class distracted you for long enough and when the teacher dismissed the class, you were one of the first to leave the room. Lily didn't even have time to ask you anything else.
You made your way through the halls to the courtyard, heading to the football field at the back of the campus knowing you would find your target there.
He was sitting in one of the lower stands. The sun made the sweat dripping off him shine, he had probably already ran around the field a little. The slightly tight uniform left little to the imagination. Some boys from the team were on the field chasing the ball, while others surrounded Tom.
You walked up to him, holding tight to the strap of your bag, suddenly not feeling as confident as before. When you were a few meters away, Tyler, one of the boys spotted you and tapped Tom on the shoulder getting his attention before pointing to where you were.
Tom looked confused but he got up and ran to you.
"Hey, what are you doing here?" He asked.
"Uh, I... I came to see you." You replied embarrassed. What was happening?
"Really?" He said with a playful tone. "I didn't know I was so dear to you" He joked.
"Yesterday you left very quickly and I..."
"I know, I'm sorry about that Y/N. Can we just forget it happened? Forget anything I said?" He cut you off and ran his hand through his hair looking embarrassed.
"Tommy..."
"Look, I need to keep training, the coach might complain and I don't want to get you in trouble." He interrupted you again. "Ah, I think I'm going to have lunch with the boys today, is that ok? We can arrange another day." He was already turning around before he even finished the sentence and fear spread throughout your body.
Was he suddenly avoiding you? Has he felt so embarrassed that the only option he has now is to push you away?
On impulse, you grabbed his hand before he moved further away from you. He turned around and you looked at him.
"I'll do it." You stated.

you imagined the past two weeks of your life to go a lot differently then they were.
even though you and peter were technically dating, things haven’t changed at all between the two of you.
mostly, you both just acted the same way you had before, except sometimes you held hands or hugged in the hallways.
“hey,” peter calls to you from the other side of your window. you roll your eyes and pull it up, chuckling as he struggles to step into your room.
he nearly falls flat on his face but quickly recovers, clearing his throat and wiping away the stray hairs that fall onto his forehead. “what’re you up to?”
you shrug, “packing.” you would be leaving tomorrow for the first day of your trip, and you were feeling a little bit nervous.
peter had decided you both would have to step up your game, and though he was agreeing to your no kissing rule, you couldn’t help but feel anxious.
peter groans, “i haven’t even started.”
you snort, “you know we leave tomorrow, right?” you say, picking out a red sundress and folding it neatly. you tightly pack it into the corner of the suitcase.
peter shrugs, “yeah, but i’m not that worried. if anything may will just pack for me.” he says, picking at his nails.
you roll your eyes, “you shouldn’t rely on may for everything.” you reprimand. peter laughs, “well what else is she there for?”
“to feed you? clothe you? make sure you’re still living?”
peter scoffs out a groan, “okay, okay! you made your point. i’ll pack as soon as i leave here.” he assures you and you smile.
you fall into a comfortable silence after that, you, packing, and peter, deep in thought.
“so,” he swallows, “we should talk about the trip.”
you nod, “yeah.”
you both stare at each other awkwardly for a second, before peters adjusting his sweatshirt and clearing his throat.
“i think we should get rid of the no kissing rule.”
you laugh, “no way!”
peters eyebrows furrow, “why? would it really be that weird for us to kiss? we’ve been best friends since forever and we’ve both already kissed other people!”
you have not had your first kiss, actually.
in the eighth grade, you were going out with jacob stiles. you had both almost kissed at your first boy girl party, but ultimately you chickened out. at the time, you had been embarrassed and so you lied, and now you were living with those consequences.
you bite your lip and avoid eye contact with him, instead stuffing your makeup into a portable bag.
peter stands, he stalks closer to you, arms crossed over his chest. “you have had your first kiss, right?”
you stiffen when his fingers graze your forearm, you gulp and take a deep breath, forcing yourself to actually look at him.
and god you wish you hadn’t.
because peter looks so beautiful standing over you like this.
his hair frames his face perfectly, the strands that fall over his forehead laying atop his head as if they were made to be there. his eyes are gazing at you with an emotion you can’t read, and his body is so close you’re almost touching.
and then you remember why you hadn’t wanted to be in this ‘relationship’ in the first place.
because peter was so perfect it was impossible to not fall in love with him, and you had barely avoided it all these years.
but now…
“have you?” peters question pulls you from your thoughts, and hesitantly, you shake your head.
peters eyes widen at that, he takes a step back, you wish hadn’t.
“but- but i thought-”
“i lied.” you admit.
peter stares at you, and then his eyes soften and he shrugs, “okay.”
you furrow your brows, picking at the skin around your fingernails, “okay?”
“okay.” he hums.
Tumblr media
the next day is an absolute disaster.
you and peter had decided to carpool, and aunt may had agreed to drive you both to the airport.
“okay- peter, i thought you finished packing last night!” may yells.
you can hear peter shuffling around his room hurriedly, and you try not to laugh at the stressed out look on his face when he finally comes out with his suitcase behind him.
may sighs, “good you’re finally done. did you see the..” she glances at you, “the thing i put in your bag?” she asks.
peter gives a tight lipped smile and nods, “can we go now?”
you pat your knees and stand, grabbing your suitcase and duffle bag and slinging it over your shoulder, “we were waiting on you.”
he rolls his eyes, “yeah, whatever. let’s just go.”
you and may share a look, one that says ‘what’s his problem?’. you shrug and follow peter out the door.
at first, the ride to the airport is the best part of the day. you and may sing along to Taylor Swift, the both of you practically bursting peters eardrums.
you see the hint of a smile on his face though, so you know he doesn’t care.
“so, y/n, you have a boyfriend?” may asks.
you glance at peter from the corner of your eye, trying to piece your words together based on his expression.
“no, she doesn’t.” he answers for you.
“huh, you know, i really don’t understand that. you’re probably the prettiest girl at that school, so you’ve gotta have boys throwing themselves at you, right? or are you just waiting on a special someone?”
you nearly choke at what she’s implying.
you laugh awkwardly, “oh, no, no. i’ve just never been… interested in anyone i guess.” you mumble.
“oh.” may bites her lip, “if you’re a lesbian that’s totally okay, you know that right?”
now you really do choke.
peters barely able to hold in his laugh as you scramble to find the words, “i’m- i’m not a lesbian, may!” you shriek.
she laughs, “okay, okay, i just.. wasn’t sure.”
you’re almost positive you’ve never been more thankful to be at an airport than you are right now.
after the mortifying experience in the car with may, you spent the rest of the ride in silence.
you thank may as you leaves, and she blows you a kiss.
“so, are we going to have to compete for mj’s heart?” peter asks.
you shove him and roll your eyes, “quit talking.” you say flipping him off and walking away.
peter laughs and jogs to catch up with you, “i’m just kidding.”
“you better be.” you grumble.
once you meet up with ned and your other classmates, the entire fiasco in the car practically disappears from your mind.
“so, are you guys excited? i mean, we’ll be in a whole different country for like, a month.” ned gushes. you shrug, “i guess.”
ned scoffs, “you guess? what’s better than going to europe?”
you scrunch your nose, “a lot of stuff actually.”
he side-eyes you, “like what? reading?”
“yes.” you hum.
you and ned continue your pointless banter, and you almost don’t notice when peter slips towards the back of the line.
“where’s he going?” ned asks.
you furrow your eyebrows until you see her. mj. peter went to the back to go talk to mj.
it’s not like you’re mad or anything, that would be stupid. i mean, doesn’t it make sense that he went to go talk to her considering the goal is for peter to get her?
“oh, he’s talking to mj.” ned points out.
you nod your head, “yeah.”
ned makes a face and glances at you, “isn’t that kinda weird for you?”
you turn your head to look at him, “what do you mean?”
he shrugs and bites the inside of his cheek, “well, he was like totally in love with her for a good long while so…”
you get where he’s coming from, and if you really were peters girlfriend you would 100% agree.
but you aren’t.
so instead you shake your head, “no, i don’t think so.”
Tumblr media
you’re a definitely a little happy that you had chosen to sit in between betty and mj for the plane ride.
considering the both of them to be a lot calmer than ned and peter when they were together, you were almost positive you’ll be able to get some sleep.
until peter messed everything up.
it started with a ‘perfume allergy’ that you weren’t aware of.
in a panic, mr. harrington ended up moving everyone’s spot. ned ended up next to betty, mj next to brad, you next to flash, and peter stuck with the teachers.
you glare at him where he is behind you, and he mouths ‘sorry’
you have to resist the urge to throw a shoe at his perfect face.
flash has already started talking your head off, saying something about ‘his new car’ because according to him, spider-man had needed his for important super hero buisness.
you highly doubted that.
“that’s nice.” you mumble.
and then the plane takes off.
Tumblr media
why do i lowkey love this story…

it was finally friday, the night of the first home hockey game. you were in the bathroom, trying desperately to curl the back of your head, but no luck.
you huffed, “mia! can you come here real quick?!”
your voice echoed, her footsteps being your sign that she heard you. she opened the door to your bedroom, walking into the small half bathroom.
“what’s up?” she met your eyes in the mirror, cracking a smile at how distressed you look.
“can you curl the back of my hair, please?”
she smiled, holding her hand out for the curling wand. she sectioned your hair, grabbing a reasonably sized chunk before wrapping it around the barrel.
“so,” she dragged the ‘o’, “you excited for tonight?”
you shrugged, “i suppose. would be nice to actually see tom play.”
“oh, i meant to ask,” she said, “but how did you two even start dating? was it the night of the party?”
you bit down on your bottom lip, “yeah, yeah. i guess we sorta kinda just clicked? i don’t really know how to explain it.”
she smiled, “i was just making sure this is something you really wanted. i mean, i know i’m one to talk, but with everything that happened with jack, i just want to make sure you’re okay.”
you smiled softly at her in the mirror, “i’m okay, i just want to move on and be happy again.”
“understandable,” she said, “what he did was so fucked up. he’s lucky i haven’t seen him yet because i will quite literally give him an ass whooping.”
you laughed, “i love you.”
she smiled back at you, “i love you, too,” she turned the curling wand off, placing it down on the sink before admiring her work, “and you’re all set, hot stuff.”
you smiled, “thanks.”
“i’m gonna go make sure sarah isn’t trying to leave the house with sweatpants on.” she said and you laughed as she made her way back down the steps.
your phone buzzed on the counter, a message popping up on your screen. you grabbed the phone, plopping down on your stomach onto the mattress.
tom dropped something off for you at your door see you soon :)
you locked your phone before running down the steps, laughing as you heard sarah’s complaining about the outfit mia suggested she wore tonight. you opened the front door, a bag sitting on the carpet in the hallway.
you grabbed it and shut the door, reading the sticky note that was plopped on top of whatever was inside the bag.
fake girlfriend or not, there’s no one else i’d want wearing my last name tonight.
the tickets are at the bottom, see you tonight :)  - tom
you pulled out the black jersey, the stitching on the back reading tom’s last name and his number. you smiled, grabbing your phone out of the back pocket of your jeans.
y/n thank you! i love it
you slipped your phone back into your pocket, jogging up the stairs. you entered sarah’s room where mia was laying on the bed, smiling contently with her efforts on getting mia to dress up a little bit. you entered the room, your eyes immediately going wide at sarah’s outfit.
“you look hot!”
“see, told you,” mia said, throwing her hands up in the air, “wear the outfit!”
she was in a black turtleneck sweater tucked into the front of her light wash jeans that quite literally fit her like a glove. she wore a pair of black booties with them, with some light makeup on (courtesy of mia).
sarah hardly ever got dressed up like this anymore, which she never really had to. she looked gorgeous either way. but ever since her and her ex boyfriend broke up, she’d lost the motivation to throw on cute outfits, just opting in on staying in sweats or pajamas all day. if there was a party, it was leggings, one of her comfort hoodies, and her beat up pair of converse that were now considered her ‘frat shoes’.
you and mia both tried to get her back to being her confident, carefree self. but, it was hard. hard for all of you, especially sarah. at the end of the day, you both just wanted her happy again.
“mia, this bra is suffocating my tits,” she said, tugging at the cups, “how the fuck do you wear this everyday?”
you both laughed, “you’ll get used to it.”
“what’s that, y/n?” mia asked, nodding towards the bag in your hand. you smiled, grabbing the material from the bag and holding it up for both the girls to see.
“no way!”
“shut the fuck up!!”
you laughed, smiling, “i know, i know.”
“that’s so cute,” mia said, sticking her bottom lip out. sarah agreed, nodding her head as she put a hand over her heart.
“finally, y/n finding someone who treats her right.”
you chuckled, fishing the tickets out of the bottom of the bag, “here’s our tickets. we should probably leave soon.”
“yes ma’am,” mia said, fakely saluting you.
sarah and you laughed, each of you departing to your own rooms to finish up getting ready and to grab your things.
                               ─── ・ 。゚☆: *.☽ .* :☆゚. ───
the arena was packed for the first home game filled with a bunch of parents and college kids hoping for their team to win. tom was nice enough to get you, mia and sarah seats right near the ice.
“okay, can i just say, i love tom. i mean, look at these seats.”
you smiled over at sarah, “yeah, it was really nice of him.”
mia was looking around at the people near you, seeing if anyone else you guys knew showed up for the game. she immediately whipped her head back around to you, slapping your arm to get your attention.
“jack’s here.”
there’s that nervous pit again.
“wait, where?” sarah asked, moving to turn around in her seat. mia reached over you and grabbed her arm to stop.
“don’t look at him! he’s a couple rows up.”
great.
your phone buzzed in your pocket, you fished it out and tapped on the message notification.
tom hey, how're your seats?
y/n they’re great! other than the fact that jack is a couple rows behind me but otherwise they’re great :)
tom oh shit, i’m sorry i can have someone come get you and move you guys if you want
y/n no, no it’s okay
you bit down on your bottom lip, fingers hovering over the keyboard.
let’s just make him jealous, like we said we would
tom with pleasure.  see you after the game
y/n  good luck :)
you locked your phone, mia turning to look at you, “you okay?”
you nodded, tucking a piece of hair away from your face, “yeah, actually. i am.”
it wasn’t a complete lie. sure, seeing jack was like a sucker punch to the gut, but you decided to not let it overpower you tonight. you were here with your best friends, supporting one of the nicest, funniest, caring guys you’ve ever met.
as the night went on, you and your friends cheered on tom’s team. he scored the winning goal and the arena erupted with cheers and applause. you, mia and sarah immediately jumped out of your seats, screaming and cheering as tom shrugged off his helmet and was hugged by his team. once everyone had calmed down, he skated over to your section, holding up a heart made out of his hands. you smiled, holding up one back.
his subtle jab of rubbing it into jack’s face. smooth.
once the arena cleared out, you let mia and sarah head back in mia’s car as you waited for tom. you were waiting in the lobby, scrolling on your phone trying to pass time.
“hey,” you heard a voice and looked up to see jack, “didn’t know you liked our hockey team.”
you slipped your phone into your pocket, clearing your throat, “uh, yeah. kinda getting back into liking hockey.”
he nodded, “yeah. i mean, sleeping with the captain of the team kinda helps, doesn’t it?”
you opened your mouth to speak, but felt a hand wrap around your waist. you were immediately enveloped in the scent of tom’s cologne.
“hey, baby,” he said, leaning in and pressing a kiss to your cheek. you masked the surprise that ran through your body, smiling over at him as he looked over at jack, “sorry, didn’t catch your name, mate. you are?”
jack’s eyes narrowed on tom’s figure, “jack.”
“jack, i’m tom, nice to meet you.” he said, holding out his hand for him to shake. jack didn’t accept the handshake, but just shifted his gaze to you.
“didn’t you say jocks aren’t your type?” he asked, and eyebrow raised at you.
“funny how we both said things we didn’t mean.” you spit back. he opened his mouth to speak, but was interrupted by his friends calling his name behind him. he rolled his eyes, turning around and walking towards his group.
“pleasure was all mine, mate! see you later!” tom called back after him. you let a chuckle escape your mouth as he unwrapped his arm from around you, turning to face you, “you okay?”
you nodded, “yeah. thank you.”
“that’s what i’m here for,” he smiled, “hungry? we can get something to eat before i drop you off at home?”
you nodded, “sounds good.”
he nodded towards the door, the two of you walking out towards the parking lot. he opened the passenger side door for you. you thanked him before he jogged around to his side, buckling in and starting the car before passing you his phone.
“put on whatever you want.”
you scrolled through his spotify, finding a couple songs you knew and put them on through the car speakers. he pulled into the parking lot to one of the diners in town. the two of you made your way inside before sitting in a booth across from one another.
you scanned over the menu, “what’re you going to get?”
he hummed, “don’t know. kinda going back and forth between the club and the chicken parm. what about you?”
you hummed, twisting your lips in thought, “the grilled cheese and tomato soup sounds good.”
he smiled, “does sound good.”
once the two of you ordered and got your food, you made small talk about the game.
“i don’t think jack likes me much.” tom chuckled, taking a sip of his drink.
“no, really?” you smiled, voice laced with sarcasm, “what gave it away? was it the blatant ignoring or was it something else i didn’t pick up on?”
he smiled, “not that i care about his opinion of me, but he could’ve at least shook my hand.”
you nodded in agreement, “yeah, no, he didn’t have to be such a dick about it.”
the bill came and after trying to grab it from him for about five minutes, you finally let him pay. you walked out, letting him open the car door for you, as he always does. you two were on the way back to your house, laughing and enjoying comfortable conversation.
“so, tell me,” he said, “are you really not into the jock type?”
you nodded, “yeah, i mean, guys who i’ve met who were athletes were like the stereotypical jock type. the huge ego, kinda kept their girlfriend by their side as arm candy, never really cared about the woman they were with, you know?”
he nodded, “yeah, i don’t really get how guys can do that. any guy who doesn’t worship their girl is a dick, in my opinion.”
you smiled, “are you the type of guy to worship your girl?”
“oh, yeah,” he said, “i mean, if you don’t then what’s the point, y’know?”
“i get you,” you said, “in my opinion, taylor didn’t deserve you.”
he smiled over at you, “a lot of other people would agree with you.”
who would willingly break tom’s heart? i mean, c’mon, he’s the definition of a perfect boyfriend.
no, stop thinking like that.
he pulled up in front of the house. you looked over at him, his brown eyes meeting yours.
“do you want to come inside?” you didn’t even notice the words were falling from your lips until you heard your own voice.
“sure.” he smiled, turning the car off. he followed you inside, mia and sarah sitting on the couch.
“hey,” you said, shutting the door and locking it, your eyes falling onto the tv, “what’re you guys watching?”
“the new episode of love island,” mia said, “shh.”
you looked at tom who was smiling at you. you rolled your eyes playfully, “okay, you guys have fun. we’re going upstairs.”
sarah gave you a thumbs up as the two of you climbed the stairs. you made your way to your room and shut the door. tom took a seat onto your bed, watching as you walked over to the dresser.
“i might have a pair of sweats you can change into,” you said, digging through one of the drawers, “if you want to stay.”
he smiled, “i’d love to stay.”
you smiled back at him before handing him the sweatpants, “i can uhm, find a t-shirt or something if you don’t want to sleep in your sweatshirt.”
“i’m good for now,” he smiled, taking the sweatpants into his hands, “thank you.”
you nodded, “the bathroom is over there.”
he nodded, walking into the bathroom. you quickly changed into a pair of leggings and a tanktop, sitting on the bed as he came out of the bathroom. he joined you on the bed, putting his phone on the nightstand.
“wanna watch a movie or something?”
he nodded, “yeah, anything in mind?”
you hummed as you clicked onto netflix, “i heard the new movie on netflix is good. something about a girl who’s in fake relationship or something.”
he let out a chuckle as you smiled over at him, “how fitting. maybe we could learn a thing or two.”
you clicked on the movie, the both of you getting situated on the bed. you two were mainly talking rather than paying attention. he was propped up on his elbow, facing you as you laid down on your side.
his eyes scanned your face, “oh, you have an eyelash.”
you reached up under the eye he pointed to, attempting to wipe it away.
“did i get it?”
he smiled softly, “no, here,”
he reached up gently and pinched the eyelash between his fingers. you smiled as he scanned your face again. you did the same, his face softly illuminated from the light from the tv. he looked like a dream, his curls flopped over his forehead. you didn’t realize how close the two of you had gotten until you could feel his warm breath fan your face. he reached over and moved  a piece of hair from your face.
“what’re you thinking about?” you asked softly.
“how i broke one of the rules.”
you raised an eyebrow, “which one?”
“the first one,” he said, “‘no strings attached’. i can’t help it. you’re all that’s been on my mind ever since i met you.”
you let out a shaky breath at how close he was, “i may have broken that one, too.”
he smiled, “let’s scrap the rules. i want to explore this, whatever kind of feelings we may or may not have… if that’s what you want.”
“yeah,” you said, “fuck the rules.”
he smiled wider, “is it alright if i kiss you right now?”
“please.”

instead of you [part eight] || l.mh
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
pairing: [best friend’s brother] lee minho x college!reader ft. han jisung
summary: you didn’t expect to spend your summer pretending to be your best friend’s girlfriend- then again, you didn’t expect to fall for your best friend’s brother, either.
warnings: swearing, mentions of sex (18+ mdni), nausea (but no getting sick)
word count: 3.1k
a/n: revamped my tom holland series from my main blog ( @wazzupmrstark ) to try and motivate myself to finish it!! ; i know minho is the chef of the group but just suspend your disbelief for this series and pretend it’s jisung
series masterlist | early access to the next chapter on ko-fi
You froze like you had been caught doing something you shouldn’t have, even though what was happening was completely innocent. Wasn’t it? Minho was acting like it was. He hadn’t even faltered in his work, still lathering sunscreen underneath the band of your swimsuit like nothing was happening.
Jisung stepped into the light, one hand shielding his eyes from the sun.
“What did I miss?” he repeated, staring directly into your eyes.
Minho spoke before you got the chance. “Nothing. Want to take over?”
“Gladly.”
Jisung’s older brother stood from where he had been sitting behind you and wiped the remaining sunscreen from his hands onto your shoulders so that Jisung could finish rubbing it in. The two switched spots, and you relaxed the tiniest bit when you felt Jisung settle behind you. His warm hands replaced Minho’s cold ones as he began covering the spots his brother had missed. They were both gentle, but you didn’t feel the same spark of energy underneath Jisung’s fingertips as you did Minho’s. Instead you felt comfort, familiarity, and the tension started to subside from your body.
“Make sure you get my neck,” you reminded your best friend quietly, still feeling slightly guilty about what had gone down just moments before.
“I know what to do,” he replied, a hint of amusement edged into his tone. “You don’t think I forgot about how easily you burn, do you?”
“You’re one to talk.”
Jisung put a hand to his chest, feigning offense. “My own girlfriend, so cruel.”
You shrugged. “You knew what you got into when you started dating me. You know I’m not nice.”
“Being nice is overrated,” he said simply, hands traveling down to your lower back. “You may not be nice, but you’re kind and that’s what’s important.”
You wished you could turn to see his face, but you were stuck in the position you were in, facing away from him.
“What’s the difference?” you asked.
“You know, like Ellen Degeneres is a nice person, but not a kind one? And some people say Gordon Ramsay is kind, but we all know he isn’t nice.”
You thought about it for a moment. “I guess that makes sense.”
“Of course it does.” Jisung tapped your arm twice. “All done.”
“Do you need me to do you?” you offered.
“No, I put some on before coming out here.”
You nodded, unsure what to do now that you were all coated in sunblock. Then it dawned on you. This was the perfect opportunity to turn your fake relationship up a notch in front of Jisung’s family. Nothing too dramatic, just some casual intimacy.
You began to lean backwards and Jisung took your cue, stretching out on the lounge chair behind you so that you could rest on top of him. You laid your head on his chest and pulled your book back out of your bag while Jisung threaded his fingers through your hair.
You listened to the steady beat of his heart and the sound of the waves crashing against the side of the boat as you read, both eventually fading into the background as you lost yourself in the pages of your book.
-
You hadn’t even realized you had drifted off until you were being shaken awake. Strong hands gripped your shoulders, shook you once, then let go.
You opened your eyes to see Minho standing above you, hands on his hips and a smile on his face.
“Wanna play a drinking game?”
“Wha-” you sat up and looked around. You were alone on the chair, you weren’t sure when Jisung had left. “Where’s Ji?”
“He’s helping with the dishes.”
“The dishes- did I miss dinner?”
“Kinda, but we saved you some leftovers.”
You rubbed your eyes, trying to focus on Minho. It had gotten dark so it was harder to see. Pink and purple hues still lingered on the horizon but they were quickly being overtaken by the stars and their inky black cloak.
“Why didn’t anyone wake me up?”
Minho shrugged. “Jisung told us not to,” he replied. “So are you in or not?”
“Yeah, sure I’ll play,” you agreed.
“Great.”
Minho held out a hand to help you up and you accepted. He hoisted you up with more force than you were expecting, so much so that you were falling in the other direction. He caught you before you slammed your face into his bare chest, thank god. As if you hadn’t already had enough awkward encounters with your best friend’s brother.
“Easy, there,” he chuckled.
“Sorry.”
“You can’t be falling over before we’ve even started drinking!”
You just laughed and let him lead you down the steps to the lower deck. There was a ping-pong table on one side of the enclosed patio and a foosball table on the other. In the middle sat an outside dining table littered with half-full glasses of various beverages. Felix was seated there scrolling on his phone, but he smiled when he saw you and pocketed it.
“Long time, no see,” he said with a smirk. “Did you get sunburned?”
“No, Jisung reapplied her sunscreen before we played soccer, remember?” Minho answered for you.
He had? You had no memory of that, obviously. And they had played soccer? Damn, you had really underestimated your ability to sleep through everything.
“Oh, right,” Felix said, sounding a little disappointed. Jerk.
“I can see you got some sun, though,” you shot back, returning his little grin. He covered his red cheeks self-consciously and glared at you. “Now I can’t tell if you’re blushing or not.”
“Jisung, your girlfriend is bullying me!” Felix hollered through the open sliding glass door.
“Good.” You relaxed a little when your best friend appeared in the entryway. He grinned at you and his twin. “Glad to see you two getting along.”
You joined Jisung by his side and kissed him once on the lips. He tensed the tiniest bit, imperceptible to everyone but you, the only indicator that gave away his surprise. He recovered by pulling you closer and wrapping an arm around your waist before breaking away.
“So,” he said, keeping his hand on your hip nonchalantly, “what are we playing?”
“Fun Facts.”
“What’s that?” you asked.
“Everyone gets a few strips of paper and writes down facts about themselves that no one else in the group knows,” Minho explained. “We crumple them all up, put them in a bowl and each take turns picking facts out and reading them out loud. When it’s your turn, you have to match the fact to the person who wrote it. If you’re right, they drink. If you’re wrong, you drink.”
“That’s not fair, you guys have known each other all your lives!” you complained.
“And we don’t know anything about you,” Minho countered, “aside from Jisung. I think that levels the playing field.”
“Whatever,” you mumbled.
“She’s competitive,” Jisung added with a squeeze to your side.
“Couldn’t tell,” Minho mused with a smirk.
You took a seat at the table across from Felix while Jisung made you both a drink. Minho sat next to you and when Jisung returned he sat on your other side. Felix folded sheets of notebook paper into thin sections and ripped them up before passing them around the table along with a pen for everybody.
As soon as everyone had a drink and some paper in front of them Minho set a timer on his phone and everyone began brainstorming their facts.
You tried to think of things about yourself that Jisung didn’t know, but came up short. You had no filter when it came to him. You always told him everything, even when he didn’t want to hear it.
He knew about your dating life, your sex life, your daddy issues. You texted him updates every time you got a UTI. There was practically nothing he didn’t know about you so you knew you had to dig deep. Minho and Felix were done with theirs before you had even gotten to your second fact.
At least you could take comfort in the fact that Minho was struggling too. His pen hovered above an empty strip of paper like he was waiting for the answer to write itself. He had two folded and off to the side already, but had reached a breaking point.
You both also had to consider what you couldn’t tell his brothers. Things that would mess with the timeline you had so carefully constructed or create suspicion about your relationship.
Minho’s timer went off and he looked up at you expectantly. “Everyone ready?”
The rest of you nodded and passed Minho their slips. You could only hope the facts you chose were good enough, and that they wouldn’t get you into any trouble. He grabbed the decorative glass bowl from the middle of the table and replaced the ceramic pieces of fruit with the crumpled paper. He mixed the contents with his hand and then offered the bowl to you.
“Guests first.”
You took the bowl from his hands and plucked a fact strip from the mix.
“I cried on my first date.”
You scanned the faces around the table, trying to see if their expressions gave it away, but they were unreadable. The boys were smiling at each other, making faces, it was impossible to discern who it could be about.
You ruled out Jisung because he had told you about his first date before. The details were fuzzy, but you knew he didn’t cry. All you remembered was that he had gotten to touch the girls boobs, but then her mom walked in on them and kicked him out.
That left you with either Felix or Minho. You didn’t know much about either of them so you decided to go with your gut.
“Minho.”
He looked at you with wide eyes. “How’d you know?”
“Lucky guess.”
“Bro, come on,” Felix chided, shoving his older brother.
“Okay, this is why I didn’t tell you guys. I knew you’d give me shit for it!”
“Yeah, because you deserve it.”
“In my defense, we went to see a Pixar movie,” he explained. “I was done for before the title sequence even played.”
“That’s your fault for picking Pixar,” Jisung insisted.
“Trust me, I know.”
“Aren’t you forgetting something, Minho?” you asked. He gave you a blank stare, blinking at you in confusion until you made a drinking motion with your hand. “Drink up.”
“Right. Cheers.”
He raised his glass then took a big sip. You passed the bowl to Jisung. He picked one from the top and read it aloud.
“I didn’t read a single book that was assigned in school. Easy. Felix.”
“Hey!”
“Drink. I’m right.”
“How’d you know it was me?” Felix demanded.
“We took all of the same classes, dumbass. You were always cheating off of me.”
Felix reluctantly took a sip of his drink and grabbed the glass bowl from Jisung.
“When I was in sixth grade my mom caught me looking up ‘boobs’ on the family computer.”
“Classic,” Jisung said while his twin brother shook his head. “Rookie mistake.”
Felix surveyed all of the players before picking. “Minho.”
Minho shook his head. “I was never caught.”
“So who is it?”
You smiled sheepishly and raised your hand. “It was me.”
“What?”
“Not proud of it, but yeah,” you admitted. “That’s not even the only time it happened to me either.”
“What do you mean?” Jisung cried. “Please tell me your mom didn’t catch you twice.”
“No one taught me how to erase your search history!” you said defensively.
“But you didn’t learn your lesson the first time?”
You ducked your head. “No.”
Jisung was doubled over with laughter at that point and you were sinking further and further in your chair. So far yours was the most embarrassing one and you didn’t think you’d ever be able to live it down.
“What was the other time?” Minho asked boldly.
You muttered the answer under your breath.
“Sorry, what was that?”
“Looking up ‘girls kissing’,” you mumbled again, this time loud enough for them to hear.
“You’re fucking kidding,” Felix gasped in awe.
“I wish I was- anyway, Felix drink.”
The bowl was passed around the table a few more times and you finally got to drink on Jisung’s turn when he correctly guessed that you were the one to have slept with a nightlight until you graduated high school. You knew that drinking on an empty stomach was probably a bad idea, but you’d also been going to college for enough years to know your limit. So you thought.
It was your turn again. The game was down to the last four slips and Minho was winning by one. This was your chance to tie the game.
“I slept with a girl whose name I never learned and still don’t know,” you read before answering automatically. “Minho.”
He made the most sense to you, he was the movie star. You were sure he’d have to have done it at least once, if not multiple times. But he shook his head no.
“What?”
“Drink up, babe,” Jisung said, smiling almost victoriously.
“What the fuck?” Your anger slipped out before you could stop it. Jisung was always chastising you for sleeping with strangers but apparently he had been doing the same thing all along. You chugged the rest of your drink bitterly to make a point. Perhaps it was a bit too fast for your own good, but you didn’t care.
You knew Jisung was tired of picking you up from one night stands, tired of warning you of the dangers of going home with someone you didn’t know. You knew he worried about you and that he had your best interest in mind, but you couldn’t help but feel judged every time you were on the receiving end of one of his lectures. Sure, it was more dangerous for women to have casual sex than it was for men, but that didn’t change the fact that Jisung was taking part in upholding the double standard.
“It was before we got together, obviously,” Jisung reasoned. His smile had fallen from his face.
“I should hope so!”
“Baby,” he whispered, reaching for your hand. You fought the urge to pull away. “Y/n, it was a long time ago.”
“It’s still an asshole thing to do.”
He knew you weren’t talking about the name thing anymore. You wondered if his brothers had caught on too.
“I know.”
You stared at him for another moment, ignoring all of the things he was trying to tell you with his eyes. “I need some air.”
You stood from your seat and made your way back up the stairs to the top deck. You had already been outside, but you needed to put some distance in between yourself and Jisung before you said anything you might have regretted.
You leaned against one of the railings and watched the dark water churn below, thinking about what might lie beneath the surface. The salty air was refreshing, just what you needed. You took a few deep breaths to try and slow your racing pulse. You didn’t think you had ever been so mad at Jisung, and the thought frightened you. It was over something so… arguably inconsequential too. Something that had happened years ago. Why make a big deal out of it?
Most of the lights on the boat had been turned off by now, making the stars look like they had been multiplied tenfold. You had gone stargazing with Jisung and your other friends a couple of times back at home, but none of those experiences compared to this. You remembered packing up Jisung’s car with blankets and booze one of you had bought off of an upperclassman, maybe a joint or two if you were feeling fancy, and driving out to the lake near campus. Your friends called it Corpse Lake because one time detectives had found a body in it. It was only once, but it was enough to earn it the nickname.
You and your friends were the only people ever there in the dead of night, laying your blankets in the sand and drinking cheap beer as you listened to music and got high. You liked it because of how dark it was. The closest lights were all the way across the lake which made it an ideal spot for stargazing. You remembered thinking no night sky would ever beat that one. Boy, how you had been wrong.
The sound of footsteps approached behind you and you turned around, ready to tell Jisung off, but it was Minho.
“I, uh, wanted to check on you,” he said, shoving his hands into his pockets.
He’d changed out of his swimsuit into sweats. Meanwhile you were still wearing your bikini and it was starting to get cold.
“Did Jisung send you?”
“No.”
“I don’t believe you.”
“Does it matter?” he asked. “One of us cares about you.”
You sighed. “I know I’m overreacting, and I feel bad for making a scene-”
“Hey,” Minho interrupted softly, “you didn’t do any of that.”
“You don’t have to say that.”
“I’m not just saying it,” he insisted. You didn’t respond. “I promise. You have every right to be upset. Jisung was out of line.”
“Why do I feel like there’s going to be a ‘but’?”
Minho smiled. “Because he’s my little brother and I have to defend him even when he doesn’t deserve it. But you know that happened a long time ago, and I think he’s not that kind of person anymore.”
“I know he’s not,” you agreed.
“Oh.” Minho sounded surprised.
“It’s just…” I am.
“It’s just what?”
You knew you couldn’t tell him. You weren’t sure if you’d be able to tell him even if you weren’t supposed to be dating his brother. Old feelings, old secrets, the shame associated with sexuality and sexual expression were threatening to surface again and you felt it was something you needed to hide. You had gotten so good at talking openly about it, so good at embracing it- but now you were forcing yourself back into a box based on what you thought a perfect girlfriend was. You felt dizzy.
“Y/n?” Minho prompted when you didn’t answer, concern etched across his features.
“I’m, um, I’m actually not feeling very well,” you admitted and clutched the railing even harder. “I think I’m going to throw up.”
Minho’s eyes widened in both panic and realization. “You never had those leftovers did you?” You shook your head. “Alright, c’mere,” he said and peeled you off of the balcony, slinging your arm around his neck like you were a wounded soldier. “Let’s go to the kitchen and get you a snack or something.”
“Okay,” you agreed quietly and let him lead you back inside.
