diversity is obviously great for many reasons, but among them being that any character who is normal ass white man is made WAY more interesting in any context if that is deviated from. I will watch so many films/series, ones pre 2000 especially, and wonder how much more interesting and investing it would be if the character just...wasn't the most basic societal "norm" for what's acceptable as a protagonist. Like holy shit, does it not get boring making this stuff with the same dude over and over?
#to be clear#im not saying that diverse media doesn't exist or isnt good. i just dont understand how hollywood is like “hmm we need fresh stuff??!!”#like they haven't ignored 99 % of the human experience even in just one situation#everytime i see a film thats like “he's fighting against the norm” like ok im sure greg is soooo oppressed#what is the same guy was gay?#or a person of color?#or genderfluid?#or a woman?#you just made his struggle that much more interesting and poignant!#im going crazy like how is diversity just seen as a fucking marketing tactic when it just makes your fucking media better when you actually#bother to represent the fullness of the human experience and struggle#diversity
