Heng's an idiot who can turn down Mo but obviously can't say not to his boss, Kongdech is a man who assumes everything is happening exactly as he assumes it is and treats Heng like an object instead of a person, Mo fell in love with a version of Heng that doesn't actually exist and alternates between treating him as a person and an object just as surely as their boss does.

... Why do I want any of these men to find love?

I love the formula Thame Po has adopted these last few episodes!

Using the majority of the run time to focus on each group members story, as they build up bringing MARS back together, is really smart.

BUT they are still hitting us with a big ROMANCE BOMB at the end of each episode which advances Thame and Po’s relationship forward! ❤️

Some things that have been pretzeling my inner lobes about Vindicta and her as a character...

Like, her initial premise looks very simple, but I started thinking about it a lot, to the point I went and researched Salem Witch trials (like, I know what it was but I never went deep into it), and goddamn shit was horrifying. So to think about it in terms of ''what would it feel like to be murdered and suddenly brought back to life some 200 years later, where everything moved foward without you''. All of your family, friends, everything you knew about, gone. The shock, grief and devastation one would feel in that position would be overwhelming to the point of the madness... which, in the end does make her ''THE Vindicta'' and only thing that can scratch that itch is to eliminate bloodline of one man who took it all away from her.

One thing that gave me huge hint about her as a character was name of her weapon, which is ''Wallflower's Revenge''. And, well, wallflower is used to describe yourself or someone when they feel too introverted or shy to socialize or mingle with other people. Which makes me think that since she came back to life she never managed to fit back within society, even when everyone seems sort of accepting towards supernatural, she still chooses to recluse herself. In the end, she's neither a monster or a human anymore, but something in between. And when you're in between, you tend to forget where do you belong.

Thus why I put on cape + hat in some of the sketches, I have feeling she would have tendency to hide herself, not just because she's an assassin but her general introvert nature. Although, I have a hunch she has jovial side to her, judging by her voicelines and tendency to whistle and hum when shooting. She'd also be very caring to her crow familiar too.

I like that Deadlock characters came in all shades of gray even with so little lore

Meanwhile there's tons of stories that DO treat the beliefs of the locals and natives of any area as phony mumbo jumbo and only Our Facts And Logic Civilized Science can solve. Including Dracula retellings (the Voyage of the Demeter does this for example).

The consequences of colonization, xenophobia, and racism has been disastrous to humanity.

I didn't know about that part of the voyage of the Demeter, I didn't watch it after all. However, I would like to know what excuse did the writers pulled this time; considering that the whole thing of the Demeter is how the only person who has the knowledge to stop Dracula from murdering everyone aboard is the romanian first mate. Who doesn't do it because:

a) His fear of the monster who has been terrorizing his home for centuries.

b) The very real fear of his crewmates dismissing his knowledge as paranoid superstitions, which actually happens after the first mate threw himself into the sea, by his own captain!

Which ends up with the captain lamenting that he didn't do enough to stop the massacre, but still makes an effort to stop Dracula himself from controlling the whole ship by tying a rosary to the steering wheel with his hands. Again, putting the faith on a holy object that for the victorian audiences would have been an idolatrous act. Subverting the expectations around the faith put on modern science, and deconstructing xenophobic beliefs of the characters despite Dracula having xenophobia within the narrative.

Easy to understand, no? So, it's truly ironic how the bar regarding the respect of native cultural folklore based on knowledge is on the ground, and there are still stories tripping on it. If an old orientalist book like Dracula managed to put respect on the cultural beliefs of locals of Transylvania in the writing, and an author in 2024 (with all of the knowledge available right now) decides that any beliefs in the real setting of whatever book they are writing do not matter, or worse are there to elevate the Facts And Logic Civilized Science, then... The past never left us at all.

With all that being said, I will admit to being a bit shameless and liking the idea of Clover coming back to life post UT Pacifist Ending. I know, I'm sorry, I know it's cliche, please hold your tomatoes. I'm aware that having the character that sacrificed themself come back can end up sorta undermining their death and having Clover stay dead post UT-Pacifist is a valid outcome that deserves more recognition/exploration and I just talked about Kanako not being special so I'm kind of a massive hypocrite for wanting Clover back and blah blah blah. I get it!

BUT! I am also a massive softie at heart and got attached to the doomed by the narrative kid 🥺

(I do feel like Clover getting revived should be something that's exclusive to fanworks though. I don't want a canon confirmation that "Nah, they're not dead for realsies, they just took a five-minute dirt nap." Because having it be canon does feel like it undermines their death. This is all just self-indulgence over here)
