kind of insane how growing up I was not only told that the us had a strong democracy but that we are THE democracy. the democracy against which all other democracies are measured. it's a key part of American exceptionalism. and yet I was never once taught about the supreme court determination that there is actually no constitutional right to vote in this country and it's all basically up to the states

#even tho the 'civil war amendments' pretty much DO establish a constitutional right to vote #they were basically like nah. thats not what that means. also fuck you #this is because conservatives have known for decades that they could not win elections if they didnt cheat #so they install justices who are willing to bend over backwards + use absolutely absurd justifications to achieve their goal of facist rule #voter supression is insanely common here. i know its propaganda but i dont understand how teachers can say this stuff in good conscience
