okay I've seen posts like these going around for Yang and Blake but not for Weiss and it's bugging me a bit so I figured I'd make my own
Guys. Weiss is frustrated and impatient and she has every right to be. it's completely understandable. Remember when homegirl was the last member of her team standing and watched all three of her friends plummet to their presumed deaths? Remember when she's the only one of them who saw what happened to Penny? Remember when she lost not just her home, but a whole damn kingdom that LITERALLY WENT UP IN FLAMES? Atlas is literally another Beacon for her, the loss is incredibly personal and visceral. She's grieving. She lost her home that she desperately wanted to save. She's dealing with her own immense kingdom spanning guilt. "I am so tired of leaving places in ashes."
Not to mention the fact that Weiss was forcibly separated from her mother and brother who she only recently reconnected with (and who she clearly feels responsible for) and was forcibly wrenched away from her sister. Her losses are heart-wrenching, and it's important that the weight of it is acknowledged and brought up when discussing her. She's dealing with her own trauma as well, and she's clearly impatient with this new world and desperate to go back to Remnant.
She gets frustrated with Ruby one time about the grow-hurt (obviously, neither she nor any of the others knew why Ruby wasn't able to get it) and that's fine lol. It's normal. It happens to everyone, it's literally not a big deal whatsoever. It's bizarre that people are taking it to mean that she was inconsiderate of Ruby's feelings or too self-centered to even notice them, because the comment itself is literally nothing - what we're meant to see is Ruby's reaction, and how bad Ruby's own headspace is that such a small, irrelevant thing cements her own heartbreaking sense of inferiority and uselessness. It's just like Yang saying "you don't mean that" is taken as an invalidation of her trauma and Blake's attempts at reassurance are taken as dismissals of her trauma. Ruby's hurting so immensely that she doesn't understand how others can't see it - but how can they? It's impossible and unreasonable to expect them to magically understand and fix everything that she's going through, especially considering that so much of her trauma has been repressed even from herself since she was a child.
Her team loves her. They'll reach out to her, she'll reach out to them. There's no need to entirely blame one side, because there are no sides. It's a messy, heartbreaking, exhausting situation where nobody is wrong and everyone is sympathetic. It's good storytelling.
EDIT: sorry, I wasn't trying to compare their experiences and weigh them against each other, even tho I think that's how it might have come across. I just haven't seen lots of discussions on Weiss's state of mind (maybe it's just me and my dash lol) so I just wanted to emphasize that, though some stuff was wrongly worded. Sorry once again! I changed things slightly so if possible, reblog this version instead.

You said you wanted to talk about ventriloquism?
Tell me more?
It took me so long to get to this I'm so sorry 😭 low on spoons, you know how it is
But yes, I LOVE ventriloquism, and I talk about it semi frequently here in my corner of the internet ... I'm not even sure where to start just cuz there's SO much, but this post I made a bit ago with a focus on our bonds with our puppets is a good start :)
Other than that, I've left quite a lengthy beginners guide under the cut, so I hope you enjoy!
So, here's where we start. This here:
Tumblr media
Is a headless Jerry Mahoney. I show you this mildly uncomfortable image so you can see the most important piece of equipment in ventriloquism: the headstick! Or control stick, some people call it that too. This has a bunch of different levers on it that control different parts of the face, but more rudimentary ones will just have one lever for the mouth. Which is really all you need honestly. (Anything else costs a pretty penny. Like, an especially pretty one.) The lever being pulled on Jerry here is the only important one, and that's the one that controls his mouth.
You can see a bunch of those controls here:
Tumblr media
This isn't the only kind of ventriloquist dummy, but it's definitely the most well known iteration. There's been a huge rise in felt puppets recently, and there's also been pull-string ones around for quite a while (which are far less intricately built than other dummies, but pretty sweet for beginners. I only own string-pulls and i love them very much. ♡)
As for actually doing ventriloquism, there's a few tips I have that I tell anyone interested.
1. Ventriloquism is easy. It is so easy. It's learning how to make it convincing that's hard!
2. And in that same vein, it doesn't matter that much how convincing you are as long as you and the audience are having fun! I always get tired of people treating what's basically playing with dolls but ✨️fancy✨️ like an Olympic sport lol.
3. Letter substitutes are whatever you can get away with. Cut corners. Change your vocabulary. Whatever works to make yourself sound more natural is what you should be doing! Remember, it's not cheating if it works.
4. If you aren't a little weird about the puppets please consider getting weirder. It is a tradition we hold very dear to us.
Now, as far as the basics go-- like I said, it's not too terribly difficult.
First and foremost, there's a certain "standing position" your mouth should rest in, which sounds very silly but it's true. Your lips should be slightly parted, enough to let air out but not enough to be super noticeable. You can't actually talk with your mouth fully closed, but it should look closed from a distance. This is one of our tricks of illusion >:3
Your tongue should always be behind your teeth, usually resting against them a bit in my experience. Your teeth are going to be acting as your new lips. That sounds insane but it'll make sense the more you do it. When you'd usually use your lips to pronounce a word, you use your teeth. ALWAYS keep your teeth resting in a mostly closed position!! This is so people don't see your tongue moving!! Learned this the hard way lol.
There are a few letters you have to watch out for: B, F, M, P, V, and W. Some of these are easier for other people and some are harder, but these are the well known ones, plus ones I have trouble with (granted I do have speech issues as is, sooo... take with a grain of salt?)
These letters are evil and cursed and don't like to be pronounced without moving your lips, which is where we introduce letter substitutes. Generally,
B = D (or G)
F = more of an S sound, like a hiss
M = N
P = T
V = a sound closer to Z
W turns into the wretched "duddayoo." I do not like this one.
I'm not that great at explaining the basics to be honest, but there's lot of great tutorial videos out there, I'd recommending doing s little dive into those if you're genuinely interested. For now here's one from Darci Lynne because I love her.
youtube
The best thing to do though, if you dont want to do the actual acting thing? Get active in the community anyways. Get your friends into it. Talk about it! Post about it! Ventriloquism has been, famously, dying as far as most people are concerned for a long while now, and we really need younger people to step up and keep this art alive. Just appreciating it and supporting from the sidelines is a huge help. As much of a loser as this makes me sound, please for the love of God make ventriloquism look cool. It sounds goofy but we really do genuinely need it.
As a final note:
Ventriloquism at its core, I believe, at least, shouldn't be competitive. There are a lot of people in the community that just take it way too seriously and frankly, it is so lame. Ventriloquism should be fun. It's odd and it's kooky and it should be accessible to everyone no matter how good they are at keeping their lips still. A lot of the best ventriloquists famously could not keep their mouths shut. And I mean that as literally as possible. They were still beloved by many and are greatly cherished figures in our community.
If you ever doubt yourself, remember: Lambchop was only a sock before Shari Lewis made her come to life. You don't need the best materials, or the best technique; all you need is passion and a good routine.

About me:
Anyway, hi, im "Actual-Greenninja" but you can just call me Lloyd (that's just my online name, don't refer to me as Lloyd irl lol). Alot has changed since I wrote my intro a while ago. I'd prefer to remain genderless on the platform :') just call me by my name or dude or something lol. I still love anime and cartoons but I definitely don't watch any media as much as I use to. But for what I do watch I will love writing about them. At this point in time I DO NOT TAKE REQUESTS. I'm sorry but I definitely won't have time :'(
🩶Kins: Lloyd garmadon (Ninjago), Emmet (Lego movie), Mirio (MHA), Penny (Stardew valley), Reki (SK8), Sonic (Sonic the hedgehog), Aaron and Katie Mitchel (MVM), Finn (Adventure time) Hachi (nana)
🦴What I do on this Tumblr:
Anything I want to basically, whatever im in the mood to do but what I enjoy most is writing. That can be fan fictions (x reader, im not really a shipper sorry), headcanons, or just whatever I think on a certain show or movie. I only really write demon slayer because it's the only anime I've really been into recently. Maybe MHA too (hot take: the anime is mid) and other animes I enjoy (maybe I'll make a separate post about that). I also do fanart!!
Also im a Shinazugawa brothers Stan so expect alot of writing about them.

🩵Who and what I write for:
Fem reader, gender neutral reader, and male reader, I write romance or platonic relationships.
I write fluff and angst. Full stories or just little headcanons. I WILL NOT WRITE SMUT THAT MAKES ME UNCOMFORTABLE. I really just write what's at the top of my head. Again I don't really take requests (again sorry) but feel free to comment something you'd like to see
Also keep in mind im a student so I most definitely won't post very often.
🌝DNI: TOXIC STANS, HOMOPHOBES,JUST TOXIC PEOPLE IN GENERAL, LITERAL BABIES (idk)🌝 also dont try talking to me if you are older than 18 or younger than 12 (why are you even here lol)
Also teeny note: I am a little obsessive over certain characters. Meaning I will write much better about them and have no interest in other characters so sorry if I write a character terribly 🙏
K cool, I hope you like my works, bye now!!

- Overly minimalist decks (especially those with the scribbly, one-line, Milk-and-Honey-style illustrations, SUPER not for me)
- Overly maximalist decks (like either the art has too much going on to make sense of it, or is trying to cram so many aesthetics together that it has no actual aesthetic or theme anymore)
- Decks with art that's too same-y. Like, with some decks all the cards just basically look like the same image. Even if the art is pretty, it frustrates me because I thrive off of symbolism, and if every card uses basically the same symbols it feels lacking
- Decks that have real photography for the art, especially if it has people on it. MAYBE if one was pretty enough I'd get it, but I've never found one in this style that hit quite right, usually it ends up really taking me out of it. I do have a crystal oracle with real pictures of stones, but I usually don't use it for divination (I tend to use the cards as placeholders during spells/rituals for crystals I don't own—MUCH cheaper than buying the real thing and just as effective, lol)
- Decks with low image resolution (no matter how pretty the art is, I won't like it if it's blurry)
- Decks where the cards have a super glossy/plasticy texture (especially when they're really thin and they have that sort of grid texture to the material; y'all know what I'm talking about)
- Decks where the cards are unconventional shapes, or cards that are REALLY big. I have enough trouble shuffling as it is!
- Collab decks. It's probably the autism but I CANNOT have a deck where the art styles on the cards are different from one another. They're a cool concept tho and I wish I could support them, but on principle I don't buy a deck I won't use or appreciate adequately
- Fandom decks. ALSO a neat concept, but not really my thing, unless it's so subtle you'd barely know it was related to a piece of media (like the Penny Dreadful deck, that's a cool one)
- Preexisting images used for the card art (like using famous paintings, something about that just doesn't appeal to me; even if I like the aesthetic I'd much rather it have original images made with the specific cards' meanings in mind)
- Decks that feel like they were created soullessly (like, mass-produced by a corp for the ~✨aesthetic✨~ or whatever). My first deck was one kinda like this and I did actually vibe with it, but I'd prob not get another in the future, both bc fuck corps and also they can have a weird energy (or lack thereof) to them
- This is a weird one, but I really don't like buying the same tarot deck a close friend of mine has. When someone I see often owns a deck, I start to associate its iconography and vibe heavily with them, and it's something both difficult to get over, and that I don't necessarily *care about* getting over (this one is probably the autism too, lol)
I also agree with almost all of OP's (but you can pry gilded decks from my cold dead hands, which will be absolutely mangled after shuffling them all, lol). I *tend* to agree with the point on sexual decks, though I actually had a really fun sex-themed oracle deck a while back, the Eros Oracle I think it was called. It wasn't sexual in an overly aggressive way, like it didn't take itself too seriously, but it also wasn't a "joke deck" or whatever. Hard to describe exactly. Didn't use it a ton tho but I enjoyed the pinup style and vintage vibes. Really regret regifting him, lol.
And just in general, I tend to see tarot decks as a lot more than tools (I guess you could say I see them as physical manifestations of spirit guides, though I don't use that terminology myself,) so I don't have many—currently three tarots and two oracles counting the crystal one. In total I think I've had four tarots and four oracles, and for the longest time I only had the crystal oracle and a single tarot deck. And like, no shame on people who collect decks, that's just not fitting to how I see and interact with the practice. Also, I am simply too poor to buy decks frequently, lol.
Also damn, I know not all of these aren't necessarily hard rules, but it's hitting me just how picky I am with decks...
my tarot/oracle deck icks:
- overly feminine/“divine feminine” themes
- decks that use the g slur for the ~aesthetic~
- decks that appropriate chakras, kabbalah, indigenous symbols, etc.
- any deck that has “sexual” in the title ((or just decks that are sex themed lol))
- not the biggest fan of decks that are gilded?? it hurts my hands when i shuffle idk
- pip decks ((decks that don’t have actual art for the minor arcana))
- ANY DECK THAT INCLUDES LILITH AS A GODDESS
feel free to add on with your icks bc i’m curious
