Katsuki leaned against the kitchen counter and sighed. A warm mug of tea was cupped between his hands as he watched his boyfriend. Izuku had been in the same spot for hours, sitting cross-legged staring out their large living room window. 

Patrol had been rough today. Katsuki would have known from the non-verbal signs, but it was the constantly running news coverage of the disaster that really hit home what Izuku was obsessing over.

Of course that idiot would think it was all his fault. But what was he supposed to do? Deku had a lot of quirks, but he was not able to be in multiple places at once. He was fast…but not that fast.

Other heroes had been on the scene, too. But like usual, Deku tried to do everything himself. To be the one who shouldered the worst of the damage. Take on the villain and save all the civilians. 

Katsuki inhaled deeply and scrunched his brow at the first sign of Izuku’s shoulders shaking. Hadn’t he learned anything over the years?

The mug was placed on the counter, ready to be forgotten and turn cold. The blonde padded over and stood behind his boyfriend. The lights were dim, shining from the kitchen behind them. Katsuki’s shadow was cast over the smaller man, giving the impression of the blonde looming over him.

“Hey.”

Izuku’s shoulders continued to shake with silent sobs.

“Izuku,” Katsuki tried again, crouching this time. He hesitated to touch. Didn’t want to freak him out.

Soft sniffling was the only sound between them. Katsuki was sure he was going to have to pull his boyfriend out of whatever headspace he’d put himself in. But then, Izuku lifted his face.

Scarlet eyes caught the other man’s reflection in the darkened window. Puffy eyes, tear stained cheeks, lips twisted into a pain grimace and showing off his teeth as he sucked in air to sob again.

“I c-couldn’t save them,” Izuku choked. “I’m useless! Useless Deku. A failure of a hero. I’m n-nothing!” His hands dug into his thighs, crooked fingers twisting the fabric of his shorts so hard they turned white.

Katsuki sat on the floor behind him, bracketing his shuddering form between his muscular thighs. He reached around and covered Izuku’s tight, shaking hands with his own. Gently, oh so gently, he pried those powerful fingers back, lacing them with his own.

“You’re not nothing,” Katsuki told him softly with a kiss to the back of his neck.

Izuku sobbed harder. “Y-You should have heard them. They h-hate me.”

“They don’t,” he argued. “They’re grieving. They’re angry, but not at you.”

“They should be,” Izuku whispered. “I’m supposed to be All Might’s successor…a hero who saves everyone with a smile on his face. And I failed.”

“You’re one man, Izuku,” Katsuki told him. “And you’re amazing.” He squeezed his boyfriend’s fingers between his own. “You’re so strong.” He lifted their connected hands to place a kiss on scarred knuckles. “Compassionate.” A kiss to a freckled cheek. “Kind to everyone.” A kiss to his other cheek. 

Tears continued to flow. Izuku shook his head. 

“I’ve never seen you give up. Not once. I admire you for that.” Katsuki lowered his forehead to his boyfriend’s shuddering shoulder and pressed a kiss there. “And so does everyone else. You may not have been able to save everyone, but you never once stopped trying.”

“I feel w-w-worthless,” Izuku gasped.

Katsuki sat up straight. “Look at me, Izuku.” Curls flopped as he shook his head. With a sigh, the blonde let go of one hand to grip wet, puffy cheeks and forcibly turn his boyfriend’s head.

Dull viridian eyes, glassy with flooding tears stared back at him.

“We are going to lose people, Izuku,” Katsuki spoke plainly, but softly. “It’s inevitable. And we’re going to lose friends.”

Izuku squeezed his eyes shut and choked on a wet breath.

“I’m not done,” Katsuki growled. “Look at me.”

His boyfriend complied, fluttering his eyelids open and looking at him with the most heartbreaking expression. 

“We’ve only been pros for two years. There’s a long road ahead of us filled with loss and disappointment. But there’s also so much hope and happiness.” Katsuki could feel his throat tightening, his scarlet eyes burning with forming tears. “But you have to promise me you will never stop trying. Because you are my hope, Izuku. You are my happiness. And without you, I am nothing.”

“Kacchan,” Izuku whispered, barely audible. “You’re not nothing.”

“And neither are you.” Katsuki told him earnestly. He squeezed those wet, freckled cheeks harder and leaned forward to kiss the corner of salty, swollen lips. “I love you.” Katsuki let out a shuddering sigh. “Now, please…love yourself.”

In an awkward twist of limbs, Izuku pulled Katsuki into a bone crushing hug. 

“I promise I’ll try,” he whispered.

Katsuki’s arms wrapped around him protectively. He squeezed his eyes shut, forcing his tears back and pressed a kiss against verdant curls.

The importance of a mainstream Shonen having gay relationships, is it treats it as normal.

Yes, there are mangas/anime that are categorized as yaoi or yuri. But the thing about that media is that it's only written for gay people (if it's not written as a fetish.) Those shows are good, but the queer relationships are established from the beginning, as does the yaoi/yuri label.

For a shonen manga like My Hero Academia to have a gay relationship, it completely changes how gay people are represented in anime. Mha's intended audience is a variety of people, rather than just queer people. It had a huge number of het boys and girls watching it because the main focus is heroism rather than relationships. THAT'S what makes Bakudeku so important.

For bkdk to be made canon, that means a relationship was developed and added as a side plot rather than having full focus shifted on it. And it would be a queer relationship, on a Shonen. That's revolutionary, because it puts queer relationships on the same casual level as straight relationships. Think of aot, and how much of an impact Ymir and Historia being queer had, as a casual queer relationship between two important characters. Now imagine that as the MAIN characters. Am I making sense? Are you understanding what I'm trying to say?

I don't understand why the BkDk shippers are getting upset over the last chapter for and why the Ochco x Midoriya shippers are celebrating? Did I miss something? Midoriya just wen to go chase one of the first friends he made at U.A. whose clearly hurt? He would do that for any of his classmates? I don't understand why people are assuming that a ship has been decided or has ended? It's Midoriya, he's caring, he's checking in on his classmate? I just don't understand what's going on?

Rereading the chapter, yeah, I don't get it either.

Like, Tsuyu voiced her concerns about Ochako and Izuku being Izuku would go and check up on her. That didn't feel "I must confess my feelings" on his end. And with how Ochako was being portrayed, I don't think on her end she would want to confess anything to Izuku other than the pain she's been feeling. Or even go "no, I'm fine, I'm fine. Nothing is wrong."

Also, come on, they've been friends since the beginning of the school year. They're practically best friends. You think he wouldn't go and check on her?

Saying this on a neutral ground, this is the time to take off the shipping goggles. And yes, you don't have to ship the ship and think the context of what is being presented as "writer baiting the ship". You're still seeing a ship. If anything, you're doing yourself and the characters an injustice because you're not separating them from the romance you're putting them in.

It gives me flashbacks to the first cliff scene and to be honest, I saw them having a talk coming.

One similarity I caught is the remark about hair. In the first cliff scene, Izuku makes a comment about Ochako's hair and among other things. And I said it before, the way that small bit of dialogue was framed reminds me of when you have a friend who talks bad about themselves and you chime in about how great they are to comfort them.

The hair comment is repeated but in opposite when Ochako comments on Izuku's hair and at first glance, she seemed slightly "dismissive" of how he was feeling but something told me right then and there "Oh, they're going to have to talk about their time in the war". With that, I feel like it was a subtle hint that Ochako was trying to hold back her own feelings about her fight with Himiko. Trying to distract herself from thinking about her.

The thing is, to me, I think the first cliff scene is just a first part to what's coming up next. A "this is what I'm going to do and I'll get back to you". What's coming up next feels like "okay, so... uh... this is what happened".

I think one big thing that is often forgotten when it comes to Ochako and the relationships she has is that she is still her own person.

She doesn't live for Izuku, heck, not even for Himiko. She just so happens to care about those people. Let's be honest, if Horikoshi really wanted Ochako to be all about Izuku, he would have done so in the very beginning. Usually in Shonen, the female character would almost immediately be head over heels for the main male lead and try to hide it.

Ochako? She was an already established character with her own personality, own goals, etc. Horikoshi could have easily made her one dimensional with her mind being plagued with Izuku, but thinking back on it we barely get that. On Izuku's end, he could have made it clear it was mutual. Horikoshi ain't afraid to show Izuku's emotions so why would he hide Izuku's "romantic" feelings for Ochako if he had any?

That's just me and if I had to make a guess. What of the next chapter their talk last like 4 pages and we move on to something else? And as I brought up, what if Tsuyu is there? We might have only seen Izuku, but if Tsuyu asked, he could have carried her there. He wouldn't have thought it was a "just me and Ochako" moment. He would have been like "She needs all the support she can get"...

Horikoshi, I need to see that.

WASSUP CHAT ITS TIME FOR MY YEAR FIC IDEA ADOPTION

basically this is when i go through my list of fic ideas and any that have been on the list for a while (read: years) that i no longer have any interest in, and i share them on the interwebz in hopes of maybe inspiring someone else to write! so lets start:

established bkdkbk, newly dating. kacchan finds "goodbye" letters for all his classmates and some of their teachers. he assumes they're suicide letters, confronts deku. misunderstandings, yada yada, they're "goodbye" letters in case he's killed while doing hero work.

bakugo submits an assignment, accidentally turns in a self insert bkdkbk smut fic.

Katsuki loses all his memories and falls in love with Izuku at first sight, except izuku has internalized homophobia. bkdkbk the idea for the title of this one was "The Eighth Cardinal Sin", so feel free to take that too lol

bkdkbk getting hit by a de-aged quirk, and shoji being in charge of babysitting them. basically just an outsider POV of bkdk's relationship as kids and also them seeing his scars and calling him a hero and stuff lol

platonic astrobomb (AKA katsuki + ochako) 5 + 1 crack fluff fic that is 5 times the press thought they were dating and 1 time they found out the truth (this could be implied bkdkbk or whatever other ship you want idc)

siren izuku and human HoH katsuki middle school bkdkbk au where izuku is known as being mute because he never talks, but the truth is he's terrified of his voice accidentally harming someone (cuz of the whole brainwashing thing) and kacchan helping him through that. and they kiss (in my head they were Newly established but this could totally be pre-slash. again idc lol not my fic idea anymore so not my problem LMFAO)

bkdkbk phoenix katsuki au where he is Crushing very hard on izuku except his Bird Instincts keep acting up so anytime he's around izuku he starts doing weird dances and giving him rocks and violently shaking his feathers. izuku is an oblivious fuck (ofc)

annnddddd thats all for this year!! there were a couple ideas on my list that were pretty close to getting adopted out, but im gonna hold onto them for a little bit longer. if anyone writes a fic/drabble/anything inspired by any of these SHOW IT TO ME PLEASEEEE I WANNA SEE THEMMMMMMMM
