so my manager's leaving, and i was able to have a pretty candid conversation with him that uh. has made me decide it really is time to start looking for another job.
he has a lot of disappointments with the company that are a lot more visible from his vantage point than mine, and explained some of the business-y things that i didn't have the context to understand the gravity of and uh. yeah. it's not good.
my biggest resistances to leaving this job is really just the location. i love being able to walk to work. but really everything else is take it or leave it. i worry that i'm going to have a hard time finding a new job that isn't more of what i'm already doing but... that role they said they would open last fall isn't happening. my manager pointed out that budgets for the year are already set. creating a role, no matter how badly it's needed, will probably have to wait until 2025. and uh. i don't want to still be sitting here in 2025. especially without competent management and a coworker i can't stand sitting 2ft next to me.
so yeah there's a chance i won't find better than where i'm already at. but if i don't look at all, then there's functionally zero chance of finding something better. and this is frankly a lot like when i moved last year... i had the luxury of taking my time to find the right fit. there's no rush, but i do need to start taking steps to make a change.
