I Love You (and That’s All I Really Know) - Azriel x Reader
Tumblr media
Pairing: Knight!Azriel x Princess!Reader
Summary: You were his princess, and he was just a knight. Azriel was ready to prove he's worthy of your love.
4.2k words
Warnings: Jousting (nothing graphic), fluff, slight forbidden romance, angst kinda, author knows nothing about swordplay or jousting, Az doesn’t have his shadows, Eris is a bad guy in this, low key this is just adorable.
A/N: This is my first one-shot so hopefully you guys like it! The title and the story itself were influenced by Love Story by Taylor Swift. I was also kind of inspired by the first episode of House of the Dragon and the movie A Knights Tale
Azriel knew it was wrong. You were his princess and he was just a knight. The grand tourney would be held on the morrow and Azriel was ready to win. Not just the tourney but your affections as well. He needed to prove that he was worthy of loving you.
The knight had been in love with you for years. He was best friends with your brother, Rhysand. They grew close as brothers, training together to one day become the greatest heroes your world has seen. Alongside their other best friend, Cassian, the three were inseparable.
Azriel still remembers the day he first met you. He was still just a squire and didn’t even know who you were at first when he saw you. All he had seen was a girl chasing a rabbit on the grounds and he couldn’t help but be curious as to what you were up to. He saw you run into the forest after it, leaving him to chase after you. He would’ve felt responsible if something had happened when he could’ve prevented it.
“Hello?” he called out, not wanting to admit he actually was quite afraid to enter the forest alone. He had rumors as a child that sprites and faeries occupied this land and he wasn’t ready to learn the truth just yet. Azriel waited at the edge of the forest for your response but he never heard one.
“Okay Az, man up,” he spoke aloud to himself. He took the first steps into the forest, looking for a sign as to where you could've run off to. “Sprites, if you live here then I beg you to please leave me alone,” he rambled. Azriel was able to find his bravery the further into the forest he ventured. He was going to be the world's greatest knight after all. After searching for a while Azriel began to question if you even ran in this direction. “Miss? Are you there?” he called again.
He stopped for a moment to take in the surroundings, “where did you go?”, he pondered. Most people thought Azriel hated talking, in reality he just didn’t like people brushing him off. He found that the less you talk the more people pay attention when you actually have something to say. Of course, he never was like that with Rhys or Cass. His best friends were the only people he could truly be himself around. Another time he loved talking? When he was alone. He loved talking to himself. Who better to listen to him than- well, him.
“Okay,” he sighed out, “this better not be some game. I’m starting to get freaked out.”
“I didn’t mean to scare you,” a soft voice said behind him. Azriels eyes practically sprung out of his head as he completely stilled, scared to death at the mystery voice.
“Oh, sorry. Did I scare you again?” a girl. It was a girl speaking. Az let out a massive sigh of relief, finally being able to breath again, and turned to face the person he’s been searching for. You were the princess. He hadn’t recognized you as such when he saw you run off.
“You’re highness,” he immediately bowed. You just stood there, giggling. Azriel couldn’t help but be annoyed at that. “I came looking for you, not wanting to see you in trouble,” he explained.
“Trouble? What kind of trouble?” you questioned.
Az thought that surely you couldn’t be serious, “well the forest is a dangerous place. It’s rumored that sprites and faeries live here.”
“Oh, well I haven’t seen any sprites. And I don’t think I’ve seen any faeries either,” you beamed. “I just came to help a rabbit friend,” Azriel thought at that moment you must be insane.
He looked at you quizzically, “a rabbit friend?”
You nodded your head, “yes- well, I mean that we’re friends now. He had a thorn stuck in his paw and the poor thing was in pain. We get along quite well now!” Azriels brows furrowed and you just giggled at him. “You think I’m crazy, don’t you?” you laughed. He had never heard such a lovely sound before. If he could, Azriel would only listen to your laugh forever.
“I’ve just never heard of someone having a rabbit friend before,” he reasoned.
You just gave him a small shrug before starting the walk back to the palace. “I’m not crazy, just so you know,” you told him. Azriel just looked at you, in hopes of an explanation. “I just think that animals deserve the same respect and love as people. We did invade their homes after all.”
Azriel had never thought of it like that before but he supposed you were right. There’s something so beautiful about nature but then people came along and built palaces and villages. Taking over the land. He admired the way your brain works.
“Hey, you’re my brother's friend aren’t you?” you inquired.
“Yeah, Rhysand and I are pretty close,” he answered.
You looked at him with a smile, “he has good taste in friends then. Thank you for coming after me,” you gracefully inclined your head in gratitude.
Azriel offered a smile in return, “of course, princess.”
“Please, call me Y/N,” you asked him.
“Of course, Y/N,” he corrected. Just then he remembered he hadn’t told you his name, “you can call me Azriel.”
“Azriel,” you tried it out. “I like it!” you proclaimed. Now Azriel was offering you a chuckle of his own. He couldn’t remember the last time someone who wasn't Rhys or Cass got him to laugh. In fact, he couldn’t remember when someone who wasn’t his friends got him to talk this much.
The two of you made your way back to the palace, chatting the entire way back.
“Well, Azriel, I should get back to my lessons. I’m sure my tutor is having a fit,” you explained. “Thanks again for the escort,” you then started the journey to your study and Azriel just stood there watching you walk away.
“My pleasure, Y/N,” he whispered to himself.
The two of you maintained a steady friendship throughout the years. You grew into a lovely young woman. Always compassionate towards your people, and you still cared a great deal for animals. You also were pretty brilliant. Azriel found himself amazed at some of the things you came up with. Your mind was one of the things he loved most about you.
As you and he got older, he found himself falling more and more in love with you. He almost confessed it to you just a few months ago at your nameday celebration, but he chickened out at the last moment. He was just a knight. They typically didn’t marry princesses, especially bastards like him.
He did have a plan, however, to make his love for you known. The king was throwing an upcoming tourney to celebrate Rhysands marriage to Lady Feyre. The champion prize was having a wish granted by the king. He planned to ask you for a token of luck before he was to joust and when he won, that will be when he asks for your hand.
“Princess Y/N,” Azriel greeted as he found you roaming the gardens, guards lingering behind.
A graceful smile bloomed across your face, “Az, please just call me Y/N,”
Azriel shook his head, a smile of his own appearing, “I just like to tease you.”
“Well don't! It’s not nice to treat your princess that way,” you justified.
“You just said to not call you princess!” he exclaimed. He loved it when the two of you had these playful arguments. They made something in his stomach pleasantly twist.
You were trying to remain serious but couldn’t help the laugh that escaped, “you should still treat me as a princess.”
If things went his way tomorrow, he would treat you as a princess everyday for the rest of his life. He just slightly bowed his head towards you, “of course prin- Y/N.”
You gave him a playful head shake at his correction. “Are you ready for the tourney tomorrow,” you changed the subject.
Azriel tries not to give away his plans for tomorrow regarding you. He wouldn’t want to spoil the surprise. “Of course I am,” he shrugs nonchalantly.
You turn towards Azriel, who's now walking beside you in the garden. He watches as you study his face slowly, looking for any signs of deception. Azriel has known you for a long time but you've known him for a long time too. You know all of his tells just as well as he knows yours. Yes, you were definitely onto him.
“That's great Az,” you say finally. He lets out a silent breath of relief.  “I’m sure you’ll win, the only other real competition is Cass,” you add.
Az paused, he completely forgot Cassian was jousting too. He should tell Cass of his plan to propose to you. His friend was enough of a romantic that Azriel was sure that he could get him to throw the competition.
Cassian married Lady Nesta just a few months ago and they were disgustingly adorable. Lady Nesta was the eldest sister of Rhysands new wife, Feyre. He thought it was nice how his brothers found sisters to wed. He was even happier to have you all to himself now that Cass was out of the way. There were a few years where all Cassian could do was flirt with you. Azriel had never been more jealous in his life. He eventually snapped and let his brother in on his affections for you. His friend backed off after that.
“Oh, I’m not worried about “The Lord of Bloodshed”, or whatever he wants to call himself,” Azriel teased. Cass had started to call himself that after the first battle the three of them fought together. Az had never seen anything like it, he was almost demon-like out there. It was strange as Cassian was much different when he was with his friends.
You just giggled at Azriels teasing, “You’re not worried about perhaps the greatest knight this kingdom has ever seen, Sir Azriel?” Az couldn’t help the fluttering of his heart as you used his proper title.
“Trust me, sweetheart, if anyone here is the greatest then it's me,” he confidently replied. Azriel didn’t miss the flush of your cheeks at the term of endearment used.
“Then I wish you luck,” you curtseyed, “I shall see you on the morrow then?”
Az gave you a bow and took your hand in his, placing a delicate kiss to your knuckles, “you shall.” Your face flushed to deep crimson before pulling your hand back and stalking off back towards the palace
Azriel found Cassian in the training yard, and he wasn’t alone. He found his two best friends in an intense sword fight. Both of them were very good. Az found peace in knowing Rhysand wouldn’t be competing tomorrow, as the tourney was to celebrate his marriage. That just left him to deal with Cassian, who at that moment knocked his opponent on his ass, leaving Rhysand as the loser.
“Well, well, well, look who decided to show his face at training,” Cassian called out to Azriel, helping pull Rhys back to his feet.
“Nice fight,” Azriel turned towards Rhysand, “sorry you had your ass handed to you.”
Cassian let out a chuckle, “he sure as hell did.” Rhysand was not amused, scowling at them both. “Oh wipe that face off, Rhys. You’re probably just tired,” Cass smirked, “Feyre wearing you out?”
Rhysand just looked at Cassian with a devilish grin, “something like that.”
Azriel just stood there, laughing at his friends. “Cassian, could I speak with you about something?” he asked. Cassian just looked at him with a quizzical brow.
“Why do you just need to speak to Cass?” Rhysand questioned, “I am your prince, after all.” Azriel was starting to ponder if pulling rank was a family trait.
Azriel never actually told Rhysand about his love for you. He didn’t want to make him uncomfortable but he supposed it would be nice to have both his best friends backing him up tomorrow.
Azriel took a deep inhale before speaking, “I’m going to wish for Y/N’s hand in marriage when I win tomorrow.”
Rhysand and Cassian dropped their swords simultaneously, staring at Azriel.
“You- wait my sister?”
“Finally!” The two exclaimed at once. Cassian wrapped his arms around Azriel, “you have my congratulations, brother,” he beamed.
“You knew about this?” Rhysand questioned Cass.
Cassian let out a sigh as he backed away from embracing Azriel. “yes, Rhys. I knew,” his response laced with guilt.
Rhysands confusion grew deeper and deeper. The only thing holding Azriel together was that he didn’t seem angry. “How- how long have you been in love with my sister?” Rhys asked.
Azriel shit his eyes, breathed, and reopened them, “since the day I met her.”
“Why didn’t you tell me?” Rhysand seemed more hurt than the fact his best friend was in love with his sister.
Azriel felt guilt coursing through him, “I didn’t know how you’d react. I thought you’d be angry,” he confessed.
Rhysand just blew out a sigh, “Why would I be angry?” It was now Azriels turn for confusion. “I honestly couldn’t think of a man more deserving than you to marry her,” Rhys informed.
“You truly mean that?” Az couldn’t contain the small grin he had.
Rhysand nodded, “of course,” he walked over and clapped Azriel on the shoulder, “she’d be lucky to have you. And you’d be lucky to have her.”
“Does this mean I have your blessing then?” Azriel queried.
Rhysand gave him a wide grin, “of course, although it’s not mine you need. How do you plan to convince the king?”
“I have a plan,” Azriel told his brothers before bringing his attention back to Cassian, “I need a favor.”
“Anything,” Cassian responded. Azriel informed his brothers of just how he’ll gain your fathers approval.
Azriel was set to fight his first match against a knight he had never heard of until before today, he was good. Not as good as Azriel, however. Azriel beat opponent after opponent, the crowd cheering his name. He loved the rush of the sport but if he was being honest with himself, he only cared if you were cheering his name. Which you were.
Azriel picked out your voice instantly, as it was the loudest. He looked at the royal box where you were seated on the left of your father, Nesta on your other side. When you weren’t cheering for Az, you were conversing with the lady. Azriel thought it was sweet how well you got along with her and Feyre. The latter of whom was seated next to Rhysand, on the opposite side of your father.
Soon Azriel found himself going against Cassian. During the conversation they had the day prior, his friend had agreed to lose. He felt bad asking it of Cass, but Azriel needed to win.
Azriel saddled himself on his horse once more and did a quick canter around the arena. He stopped just below the royal box.
“Princess Y/N” he called, using your formal title considering how public you currently were. His heart skipped a beat as you appeared before him.
“Yes, Sir Azriel?” you questioned, a mischievous smile gracing your face.
“Might I have a token? For luck,” he raised his lance high enough for you to bestow your favor. You nodded your head before you darted off to your seat to grab your gift.
“For you, good sir,” you came back with an intricately weaved wreath of flowers, placing it down on his lance. You leaned over the balcony just enough for Az to hear, “Win my heart, Sir Azriel.” You smiled at his dazed expression before returning to your spot besides the king.
Azriel just sat there on his horse, amazed at what you had just said. He finally snapped back into reality and rode back to his starting position. He was ready to win your heart.
Azriel was at his end of the fence, waiting for the signal to face off against Cassian. You were so close. Finally, Cassian emerged from his end of the barrier. Azriel looked towards his friend and noticed that he was riding a different horse. Then he noticed that the suit of armor was not the one Cass wore. And the killing blow was when the knight took off his helmet and revealed the face of Sir Eris.
Azriel called for a time out before the joust could begin, needing to check what happened with Cassian. He took off on his horse towards the opposite end in search of answers.
He arrived towards his new opponent, “Sir Eris, what has happened to Cassian?”
Eris let out a scoff, “you mean that idiot?”
Azriel glared at him, “yes, him.”
“Oh, well you see,” Eris began, “he lost.”
That wasn’t right. Cassian doesn’t lose. Especially to fools like Eris. Azriel never liked him. He was always full of himself. Thinking he was better all because he was to be the king of his own kingdom someday. Rhysand was in line for his own throne, and his friend still maintained humility.
“I doubt that is the truth of the matter,” Azriel defended. He hadn’t seen every tournament today, he was busy competing on his own as there were multiple tournaments being held. It was all meant to lead up to this, the grand finale. Azriel hoped that Eris was just making a show of himself, rather than telling the truth.
“Oh but it is,” Eris smirked, “I knocked him down myself. See for yourself.” Azriel followed to where Eris’ line of sight went, the royal box.
There he sat, next to his wife. Cassian was hanging his head in his hands, upset by the defeat and that he wouldn’t be able to help his brother any longer. Nesta rubbed comforting circles on his back and you moved to sit at his feet in hopes of cheering him.
“I wish you luck, Sir Azriel,” Eris mockingly bowed his head before placing his helmet back on.
Azriel galloped back to his end of the arena. He took a few deep breaths, thinking everything through. He knew he could take down Eris, but it would’ve been helpful if he had the guaranteed win he had with Cassian. If he lost, he’d never be able to marry you. He had to clear all the negativity from his mind. He would win. He could do this. Azriel would do as you told him and win your heart.
The signal went off for the grand finale to begin. Eris galloped down first, charging with might. Azriel followed almost instantly, securing his helmet. Focus. He needed to focus. Azriel, with direct precision, aimed for Eris’s shoulder. It would earn him a few points if the blow landed.
It didn’t. The blow just missed Eris and instead one landed on Azrael's shoulder. One point for Eris.
Their squires handed each of them a new lance, set to begin round two. They began their gallops down again. Eris landed another blow on Az on his shoulder. Eris now had two points on Azriel.
The third round would be the last if Eris landed another blow. The first to three points wins so that meant Azriel had to get at least one point, in hopes of continuing longer with a chance of a comeback. He had another option as well. If he knocked Eris from his horse then he would automatically be declared as the winner.
Az blew out a breath, “okay, I can do this. Just knock Eris on his ass,” Azriel rambled to himself. He never could break the habit. “Easy enough,” he confidently whispered.
Azriels squire handed him his final lance, desperate to get this over with and to make you his at last. The two nights began their descents towards each other, lances ready to deliver their final blows.
This time Azriel aimed further in, closer to Eris’ chest. He galloped and galloped. He had something to fight for. Someone to fight for. You. All he could think of was just how lovely you are and how he so desperately wanted to you to be in his arms.
Azriel landed his blow. Eris missed. He missed and was immediately knocked off his horse. He had done it. Azriel won. He removed his helmet and let out a laugh. Not because it was funny, but because he gets his wish and Eris gets nothing.
Azriel trotted over towards the royal box, ready to face your father. He got off his horse smoothly and there you were, looking at him in a way he had always hoped you would.
“Sir Azriel,” the king started, rising from his seat, “it seems as though congratulations are in order.”
Azriel kneeled before his king, “thank you, your majesty. The honor was mine.”
“You do understand what you receive for your victory, yes?” the king asked.
“Yes, one wish granted,” Azriel nodded breathlessly. He could hardly contain his nervous excitement.
The king took a moment, “that is correct.” The king began walking towards Azriel until there wasn’t much space left between them. “Stand,” he ordered. Azriel did as he said, rising to meet his king's eyes. “What is it you would wish for?” he asked.
“I would like to ask for the hand of Princess Y/N,” he nervously asked. Azriel took a fleeting glance towards you, making eye contact. He wanted to spend forever looking into your eyes. Azriel lost his nerves completely, knowing you were looking at him with such admiration.
“I wish to make her my bride. I wish to make her happy for the rest of her life. I wish to love her, and to hold her. I wish for Y/N, my king” Azriel requested in his most authoritative voice.
The king's face was one of indifference, “are you not a bastard?”
Azriel won the tourney. His birth status should not matter anymore. He was tired of the obstacles in his way. He felt his temper bubble to the surface. That was when Az felt a gentle hand place itself on his forearm. He looked to his side, and there you were.
“Father, the rules stated the winner would have any wish granted to them,” you came to his defense.
“Yes but, Y/N, he’s a bastard,” the king justified.
“I love him, as he loves me,” you proclaimed. Azriel had no idea that you truly returned his feelings. Of course he suspected, that was why he had done all of this after all. Hearing it from you made his chest thunder with excitement. You loved him.
The king looked between the two of you, “you truly love him?” he asked his daughter.
“Yes father, I do. Please grant him this wish,” you began to plead.
Your father looked towards Azriel now, “you truly love her?” he asked Azriel, repeating the same question he had for you.
“I do,” Azriel said without a second thought. “I love her and wish to make her my wife,” he continued, looking down towards you.
You felt his gaze upon you and turned to make eye contact with him, giving him a smile he had never seen you wear before but he somehow loved this one the most. “Please, father” you begged once more.
The king examined Azriel once more, then brought his gaze to you. “Very well, the two of you shall be married,” he declared loud enough for most of the arena to hear. Soon enough applause and cheers filled the open space, the crowd rejoicing in the news.
With that the tourney came to a close, the king and his royal guard taking their leave. Azriel spared a quick glance to his friends as they left with Feyre and Nesta, presumably to give him a moment alone with his fiancée. He loved that he could call you that now. And soon, you'd be his wife.
When everyone in the royal box left and the two of you were as close to being alone as possible, he went to gently take your face into his hands. “Why didn’t you tell me you love me?” he asked you.
“Well, why didn’t you tell me you love me?” you retorted.
Azriel let out a chuckle, “you have me there, princess.”
“I’m sorry I never told you. Truthfully,” you removed his hands from your face, pulling them close to your chest, “I’ve loved you since the day we met.”
Azriels eyes bulged, “you- you have?” You just gave him a shy nod in response. “In the name of honesty,” he breathed out a laugh. He couldn’t believe you loved him just as long as he did you. “I’ve loved you since that very day as well,” he confessed.
You giggled, “we’ve both been rather foolish, haven’t we?”
“Yes, my love, I’m afraid we have,” he giggled with you. Azriel wasn’t planning on wasting one more second. He removed one hand from yours, taking it to place back on your cheek. His thumb softly stroked the skin there. He leaned down, hovering just above your lips. “I love you, Y/N,” he breathed out.
“I love you, Az,” you whispered back just before he closed the distance. Finally, after years of waiting, he sealed your lips with a kiss. He had won your heart just as you had won his.
A/N: I've had this idea in my head for a little while now so I'm very happy I finally got around to writing it! You are all so amazing, I really appreciate all of your support 🥰❤️

Part 10 || Part 12
»»————- ♔ ————-««
Year 24 since fic began Year 20 Under the Mountain
     It had been quite a while since Estella found herself covered in someone else's blood.
     But after she'd been cornered by that Winter Court male all those years ago, she had begged Rhysand for some weapon to defend herself. He provided her with a dagger that she kept sheathed at her thigh beneath the skirts of her dresses.
     She had sensed the male before she heard him, the hairs on the back of her neck standing on end as he snuck up on her in the dark corridors. Without her shadows, she had been forced to train her intuition, which had improved tremendously. And she could feel his presence.
     She had reached for her dagger, quickly spinning on her heel and burying the blade in his face. Right at the bridge of his nose. He had let out a shattering cry, a hand flying to his face. And she retrieved her dagger and ran.
"If you're aiming to kill, go for the neck," Azriel had once told her. "But if you just want to shock and disarm them, go for the face. Nobody expects you to stab them in the face."
     She ran--ran as fast as she could. She didn't even know where she was running until she found herself at Eris's door. She'd been there not even four hours ago, but here she was again.
      She didn't even knock before letting herself in. Eris was sprawled out on his bed, curly red locks in his face as he read a book. His tunic revealed the top of his perfect chest, and his pants hugged his muscular legs so nicely.
"Already back for more--" he began smugly, but the smirk was wiped from his face when he met her eyes. "What in the Cauldron's name happened to you?"
"I stabbed a male," Estella managed.
     The bloody dagger fell from her hand and clattered against the hard floor, splattering the red substance across it.
     Eris was on his feet in a second, his book forgotten on the bed. He rushed to her side, gripping her shoulders and pulling her into the room. Then, he closed the door carefully behind her.
"What did he do to you?" Eris snarled, his hands still on her shoulders as he took her in.
"Nothing," she said, staring past him at the wall. "I didn't give him the chance."
"Is he dead?"
"No," Estella replied, swallowing a lump in her throat. "I stabbed him in the face."
"In the face?" Eris snapped, amber eyes going wide.
"Nobody expects you to stab them in the face," Estella numbly repeated her brother's words.
"Who is he?" Eris demanded with a growl. "I will kill him, Estella."
"I don't know," she murmured. "I ran before I could see him very well."
     Eris sighed, his hand coming up from her shoulder to cup her face. He'd be different--more gentle lately. Things, in general, had been different between the two of them in the last five years. Since the ball, when she admitted that she didn't think he was cruel.
     Neither of them had acknowledged the change, but there was more trust between the two of them. More affection. More care. It wasn't just rough sex anymore. It didn't mean she had fallen in love with him, but she didn't quite despise him anymore, either.
"I'll run you a bath," he mumbled.
      She nodded, grateful, as he slipped away, off to his bathroom. She let loose a breath, shock still keeping her from fully comprehending what was happening.
     When Eris emerged again, he came to her side, leading her to the bathroom. She glanced down at the bath, then at Eris, whose brow was furrowed with concern.
"I don't know what he wanted to do to me, Eris," Estella whispered, her voice trembling. "I stabbed him before he--"
"Good," Eris cut her off. "Good that you stabbed him before you could find out."
     Estella nodded, staring off into space.
"Do you need help?" he asked her. She shook her head. "Fine. I'll lay out one of my tunics for you."
"Wings," she reminded him.
"Oh, right," he recalled, sighing. "Then just wrap yourself in a towel, and I'll make sure your dress is cleaned of all the blood."
     Estella thanked him quietly, and he left her alone. She shed her clothes and climbed into the hot tub. She didn't have it in her to relax. Instead, she scrubbed at the blood on her scarred hands and the splatters on her face. Scrubbed until the water was tinted orange.
     When she got out, she dried off, brushed her hair with her fingers, and wrapped her body in a towel, the back dipping under the base of her wings.
     She found Eris in his bed again when she came out of the bathroom, and she didn't say a word to him before going to his side. She decided that she couldn't stand to be alone. So she climbed into his bed, laying herself on top of him.
     Eris tensed at the motion, asking, "Are you alright? This is strange."
     While affection had been more common between the two, they hadn't ever been this affectionate. But she needed comfort; she needed company. And Rhys was never around. Not that that was his fault. But Eris was all she had.
"I don't feel so well," Estella said to him.
     At those words, his arms wrapped around her, holding her to him. She nuzzled her face under his chin, comforted by the warmth of his body.

      Eris was more than shocked when Estella crossed the room in nothing but a towel and collapsed on top of him. But once he overcame the initial shock, he realized it felt right.
     So he held her. He held her until she fell asleep, wrapped in his arms. Then, he held her closer.
     For a Spymaster who killed for a living, she had been so shaken up by the incident. She had been trembling, her eyes so distant, her face numb. And he wanted nothing more than to kill the male that had tried to hurt her.
     He had been trying to avoid admitting to himself that he was beginning to care for her. But honestly, he was. He understood he couldn't let himself love her.
     When his mother had walked in to find Estella in his room five years ago, she had certainly berated him for it.
"That girl is beloved by all the males in the Night Court that quite dislike you," she had reminded him. "Eris, you are smart. You know better."
     Not to mention what his father would do to Estella and how he would use her against him if he ever found out.
     Eris couldn't. He couldn't love her.
     But it was so hard not to. It was so hard when she was asleep on his chest, breathing softly when she had come to him first after such a distressing experience.
      Just this morning, she had been insatiable. She'd sucked him off, then let him fuck her until she was nearly shrieking with pleasure. And only four hours later, she'd shown up trembling.
      He was furious at the thought of any male even thinking of laying a hand on her. He wished she could've at least remembered his face so he could rip the male apart, limb by limb.
     But for now, knowing she was safe was enough.

Romeo Save Me
“Hello Beautiful,” Amarantha cooed, circling around Rhysand's baby sister, Estella. The raven haired female held her chin high. “Rhysand, you didn't tell me you had a sister.” Estella's eyes glanced over to her brother. If he was panicked he didn't show it.  Amarantha tsked, “Naughty boy, no matter she'll make a fine addition to the court.” Amarantha purred as her eyes grazed the black gown the Princess of the Night Court wore. The silver chains connected the two pieces of fabric at her hips revealing her toned, tanned legs, the neckline dipping to expose her stomach. A tiara of black and purple gems placed upon her head. An outfit she wore in the Court of Nightmares.
Did you know about this? Estella questioned her brother in the part of his mind he kept open for her.
If I did do you think I would have brought you here. Cassian begged me not to. I should have listened.
Amarantha snapped her fingers and the young princess felt hands grip her arms tightly, as fear flooded her system as the dreaded footfalls of the attor came into her line of sight.
Rhys…
I'm here, Little Star.
Estella glanced at the Attor's talon like hand. Faebane. Estella pressed her lips in a tight line, Rhys I'm scared.
She glanced over at his face and found no emotion there, the tick of his jaw the only indication that he was worried. Stay calm. I'm here, Stella. Just breathe.
Before Estella could take in a breath the Attor pinched her nose and instantly she began to struggle in the guards arms. The Attor's smile was sinister and would be the center of the young heir’s nightmare's to come. “Come now, Princess, open for me.
Estella, refused to open her mouth, her piercing blue eyes met the Attor's in pure defiance. Breaking eye contact she looked back to her brother to find Amarantha had wrapped her arms around Rhys pressing his back to her front as if it were a lover's embrace. “Come dear, don't be stubborn, or I may have to punish my new treat here.” She dragged a manicured finger down her brother's exposed chest and Estella maintained eye contact with the self proclaimed High Queen, as she nibbled his ear. To Rhysand's credit he didn't react to her advances he just stared at his Little Star.
Estella's lungs began to burn and her vision began to blacken around the edges and she opened her mouth to take her breath. Wasting no time the Attor poured the liquid down her throat, still pinching her nose as she had no choice but to swallow.
“Wonderful, guards take her away.” Estella watched as she planted a kiss on his cheek another tick in his jaw as they began to haul her away. “Don't worry Rhysand, We'll make sure she is comfortable and well taken care of.”
Before she let the panic settle in her bones she reached out to Rhysand once more; Rhys we need to put up the wards. Keep Velaris safe. Keep him safe. We have to do it before the faebane takes effect.
On my count Rhys voice echoed through there she could feel the beginning of the Faebane taking effect.
1…2…3…
Estella threw out her power to siphon the wards, draining to the dregs and she could hear the pounding of her shields. A familiar presence in the back of her mind.
Cassian she spoke in his mind.
Stella sweetheart, what's going on? His voice sounded distant in her mind as the poison was taking hold and she was being hoisted away.
It'll be okay. I'll be okay. Watch over Velaris for me won't you, General?”  The young heir could feel her power suppressing itself. As if her power was trying to combat the drug coursing through her veins.
No I'm coming to get you his voice roared through Estella's mind though it sounded as though he was talking to her underwater. She fought back tears that were stinging in her eyes.
I love you, Cassie. Then she felt the connection being severed and she allowed herself a few tears escape her eyes as she was ripped away from her home, her family, her lover.
We Were Both Young When I First Saw You
“I don’t want to train.” Estella whined dragging her feet as Rhys held a firm grip on her hand as they approached the camp.
Frustration bubbling over Rhys turned around and gently cupped her cheeks. “My Little Star, I love you, I promised Father, Mother, and Astrea that I would protect you.” Estella fought her flinch at the mentioned, of their dead family members. Rhys tenderly brushed a strand of hair that fell loos from her plait and tucked it behind her pointed ear. “I almost lost you once. I won't let it happen again. Could you please try training with my friends? If you don't like it, then I'll leave it alone. I just need you to try.”
Estella quirked a brow as she stared into his pleading violet eyes. With a roll of her eyes and dramatic sigh she replied, “Promise?”
Rhys smiled and kissed her forehead, “Promise.”
With a slight tilt of her head, Rhys led her to the two Illyrian warriors that were standing at the center of the fighting ring. The young heir had yet to meet her brother's friends but had heard stories about his “brothers.” The two were giants compared to her, both warriors wore seven siphons a piece. The shorthaired one with blue siphons, Estella had seen in passing in Velaris before her brother became High Lord, his shadows were hard to ignore. She had never uttered a word to the Shadowsinger but heard his name whispered by the maids in their home: Azriel.
The warrior with the red siphons had his hair up in a bun, his wings rustled as the wind kissed them. His hazel eyes met her pale blue eyes and gave her a toothy grin that caused her heart to quicken. “Finally nice to formally meet the Princess of Velaris.” His deep voice seeped into her bones and warmth pooled in her belly.
Estella then scrunched her nose, “Don't call me that.”
The long-haired Illyrian smirked stalking forward, causing Estella to crane her neck to hold his pointed gaze. “What would you have me call you, Sweetheart.” Heat warmed her cheeks at the pet name.
“I'll call you a dead male, if you keep staring at my sister like that, you prick.” Azriel snorted at Rhys' response. “Stella, the shameless flirt in front of you is Cassian. The stoic one fighting his laughter is Azriel. I'm sure you've seen him around. Gentlemen, this is Stella.”
Cassian's leather clad hand picked up Estella’s and brought her knuckles to his lips, “A pleasure, Sweetheart, if you're ever tired of big brother Rhysie, come find me and we can play.” Rhys growled, as Cassian gave the young female a wink. She gave him a smile in return, then averted her gaze to focus on anything else.
Maybe training wouldn't be so bad after all.
I Got Tired of Waiting
A hand grazed Estella's waist. Sipping from her goblet staring at the High Queen, wearing the Night Court tiara that she ripped from the Princess' head when they first arrived 49 years ago. A male from the summer court pulled her close and whispered in her ear, “Warm my bed tonight, Angelfish.” His breath was sour, and Estella took a sharp breath as his hand gripped her barely covered ass.
She turned into his touch, breaking her gaze from the queen who was kissing her brother's neck. Placing her hand on the male's bare tanned chest, “It would be my honor.” She gave her best seductive grin as he leaned in and pressed his lips to hers. Bile rose in her throat, a feeling she had grown accustomed to since being there.
The male gripped her ass tighter, “I will retrieve you from your cell when I'm ready for you.” He whispered on her lips as if he was her lover. Another wave of nausea burned her esophagus as he pressed his lips to hers once more. A warm memory of kind Hazel eyes, calloused hands with red siphons atop them, and soft plush lips caressing hers bubbled to the surface. Estella forced the memory back down as the male swatted her bare flesh and walked away.
“Stella dear,” Amarantha's drawl felt like a snake slithering up Estella's spine. The young female met the Queen's gaze, her brother by her side his face a mask of cool indifference. “Come here.” Gritting her teeth the heir of the Night Court approached the dais her chin jutted out, the tiara on her head gleaming with the colors of her court. Trying to keep a semblance of dignity, though Amarantha's insistence that the top that only covered her breast and the gossamer skirt that barely covered her ass made her feel less than.
With the snap of the queen's fingers a male approached with a female their hands linked. Estella bowed, aware that her skirt was revealing more than she wished to the fae behind her. “Yes, your majesty.”
“Rise, dear, I have a gift for you.” Estella rose and the couple with their hands linked together smiled in her direction.
Breathe, Little Star Rhys' voice filler her head, Inhale she breathed in, Exhale she released the breath.
“This couple,” Amarantha's voice bellowed out, “Wishes for someone to join them in their bed this evening. You will go and they will do as they please with you.”
Shock flooded her system, so that was what her role was to be concubine…Cassian's face came to the surface and guilt laced her whole body. He will understand, Stella. We are not in a position to fight this.
Bullshit. The princess shook her head, “I will not, your majesty.” She held her head high. I cannot betray him like this, I will not. I'm sorry, Rhys.
Estella! Rhys scolded
Amarantha sneered, “I don't recall it being a request.”
Estella straightened her spine, “I don't care,” she retorted defiantly. “I will not lay down in someone's bed for their amusement.”
Amarantha rose from her throne her dark crimson skirts draping to the floor similar to blood dripping down a body. The Queen approached and Estella refused to cower. Amarantha approached her mouth upturned into a saccharine grin that appeared the most sinister. “Are you defying my direct orders, Princess?”
“Yes, Your Majesty.”
“Very Well, Rhysand, bring me the Ash whip.” Color drained from Estella’s face. Her brother approached whip in hand and his mouth formed into a tight line. “Thank you, now you will give her 10 lashes for her disobedience.” The siblings heads whipped to the evil witch next to them. “Is that going to be a problem, Rhysand. I figured she would learn her lesson best if it was given to her by someone she cares for. Wouldn't you agree?”
Estella then met Rhysand's eyes, “I do, Your Majesty.” Turn around and close your eyes, Little Star. She did as Rhys told her and the crack of the whip wrung out in the entire hall. With each sting of whip against her skin, and whimper that slipped from her mouth, Rhys’ voice rang in her mind.
I'm Sorry.
I'm sorry.
I'm so fucking sorry.
By the end Amarantha had ripped the crown from atop of her head, and the couple had carried her to their room and in spite of her bleeding back, had taken her, over and over again, until she passed out from the pain, where hazel eyes and dark long hair greeted her.
Romeo Take Me Somewhere We Can Be Alone
Estella sat up as the male swiped lazy circles around her stomach, “Would you like some tea?” She asked placing her hand on top of his stalling the movements.
The male hummed his eyes glazed from his orgasm. “That would be wonderful, Angelfish.” He gave a lazy smile that the young female returned and rose to gather her clothes and began preparing him a cup of tea. “Amarantha is generous to share you.” He praddled on as Estella placed the kettle over the flame, grabbing her tea mixture she made a few weeks prior. “I know she has her own whore that warms her bed.” Estella clenched her teeth as he kept talking, “Only to give the court his sister. Truly a gift.”
Estella closed her eyes as she schooled her voice in a calm manor, “I am happy to serve  my queen and my court in whatever way is needed.” The words fell to ash on her tongue and tears burned her eyes as the kettle sung to life.  Grabbing the kettle she brought it over to the cup with the tea mixture in it. Pouring the hot water and letting the tea steep for 2 minutes, Estella brought the tea to the male, “Here you go, Darling,” She purred. She slipped into his mind easily his mental shield down, Drink all of it for me. The male did as he was told and she cooed in his ear, “Good boy.” She ran her fingers through his light brown curls as his eyes began to droop.
A half hour went by, and Estella leaned over the male’s face, and found that his breathing had ceased and she could no longer hear his heartbeat. She patted his cheek, “This has been fun, Angelfish.” She got dressed and snuck out of his room and ran right into a finely dressed chest. She looked up and inwardly groaned, “Eris.” Estella tried to step around the Heir of the Autumn court when he stepped in front of her.
He smirked his russet eyes that glimmered with mischief, “Hello, Estella. Tell me how my Little Viper is, today?”
She glared at him, “I thought I told you not to call me that, Princeling.”
Eris grinned, “Well I can’t help myself. Tell me who was your victim today.”
Estella sighed, “No one of importance.”
Eris eyes darkened his fist clenched for a moment, “I highly doubt that.”
The princess of Night lowered her head slightly, “If I’m not back in my cell, I could be subject to a lashing so if you don’t mind, your highness.”
Eris slid out of her way, “Have a good night, My little Viper.” Estella shivered but moved past the red-haired Prince, without another word. winding the halls to her cell. Not noticing the Autumn prince sneaking into the room she came out of.
She arrived in her cell, and she found Rhysand standing in the middle of it. “Hey, you.” she said as she stepped onto the threshold of her prison.
“Hey, Little Star. How are you faring?” Rhys looked her up and down, assessing for injuries.
“Fine as always brother,” She got jittery and despite needing to put on appearances she hugged him. He wrapped her arms around her tightly. “I’m exhausted Rhys.” She whispered into his chest.
He pressed his hand to the back of her head and rocked her, “I know. I’m so sorry. Not a day goes by where I don’t regret trying to get you home. Or never bringing you to the Hewn City that day.” He whispered into her hair.
I miss them, Rhys. I miss him.
I know you do. I miss them too. “Tomorrow is Calanmai. Amarantha has granted me to leave.” Estella pulled away from her brother to stare at him and he read her face and shook his head speaking into her own, I can’t risk you being hurt because I attempted to escape. I won’t do it. It’s bad enough I have had to hurt you.
I don’t blame you; you know. She whispered in her mind.
I do…She makes me fuck her with your crown on...
Estella stilled at the brashness of his words, “Rhys...”
He hushed her as he kept her in his arms, “It’s okay.”
Will you stay with me tonight?
I’m not sure that’s a good idea.
Rhysie, please. Estella smiled slightly as he sighed.
I can’t deny you anything. Brat.
Rhys led her to the pile of hay in the corner of the cell and laid her down. The princess pressed her cheek against his heartbeat and Rhys began to rub her back. The two siblings sat in silence for a few moments. “Can you play the music for me, Rhys?”
Rhys smiled and kissed her forehead, “Sure thing. Close your eyes.”
Estella closed her eyes, “I love you.”  Music began to play inside her mind, the musicians at the rainbow began to build their symphony and tears welled in her eyes.
Rhys’ voice was strained as he responded, “I love you too. Sleep. I will be here in the morning.”
Estella was beginning to be pulled into slumber when she mumbled, “No one likes a liar, Rhys.” And she fell unconscious to the sounds of her brother chuckling.
Beggin You Please Don’t Go
“You are not leaving this bed!” Cassian pulled her waist dragging her back closer to him the warmth of his bare tattooed chest seeping into her bones. “I don’t need to leave for Windhaven until tomorrow. It’s cruel that Rhys would prevent you from spending the rest of today with me.” He kissed her cheek hips moving down the slope of her neck. “I want to be with my girl.”
Estella giggled as he nibbled her neck, his hands clinging to her waist tightly as if the General of the Night Court Armies were afraid, she would slip from his fingers. “Cass, I need to make an appearance in Hewn City. Apparently, Rhys has been getting shit for it from Keir.”
Cassian turned her to face him. He caressed her cheek gently, “I could care less about Keir. I hate it when you’re there when I can’t be.”
“Because you’re an overprotective bat?” Estella quirked a brow and smirked that the general pushing a strand of hair behind his ear.
He chuckled and kissed her nose, “No, you brat. I just don’t want to be separated from you. Especially when you’re in a place with cruel males that look at you like you’re their next meal.”
She looked laughed, “So an overprotective bat.”
Cassian’s grin was laced with mischief, “Overprotective bat?” He began to tickle the young raven-haired female. Her laughs filled their shared space, “I’ll show you an overprotective bat.” He pinned her back to the mattress and continued her assault on her waist, his fingers tickling her to the point of tears sliding down her eyes. He began pepper kisses over her face picking up her tears.
“Cassian, I yield.” Estella panted and she tapped her hand on his forearm. He stopped and leaned down pressing his forehead to hers. “I yield.” She whispered.
“I can’t help being protective you know.” He whispered in return. There was a long-delayed pause, his eyes growing distant.
Estella growled, “Had I known you wanted Rhys’ attention so bad I would have shifted into him.” Cassian shook his head and flicked her nose and she smiled, “What did he say?”
Cassian sighed as he pressed his lips to hers, “That I can beat the shit out of him when you both come home.”
Estella’s brow furrowed, “I never wanted you two to be at odds, Cass.”
Cassian smiled and interlaced his large hand over hers, “Sweetheart, we have been friends for centuries, he’s stuck with me.” He kissed her nose once more, “Just like you are.” He grinned and she found herself smiling too. “I love that smile of yours.”
She tilted her head, “What else do you love about me?”
Cassian kissed her forehead, “I love your eyes,” He kissed her cheek and Estella closed her eyes. “Your lips.” He pressed his lips to hers. “Your kindness,” He pecked her jaw line, “Your compassion.” His lips moved to her neck, “Your bravery,” moved to the collarbone. “You, Sweetheart. I love you.”
The princess opened her eyes, “I love you too, Cassian.”
And I love you two, as well, but Cassian please get off my sister we must leave soon. Rhys’s voice filled our minds and the two of us laughed as Cassian placed another kiss to her lips.
“I’ll be home before you’re able to miss me, General.” Estella whispered.
Cassian sighed and placed his head in the crook of her neck. “I always miss you, Stella.”
You Were Everything to Me
The human girl was hanging against the wall, her fear flooding her scent. This was the human girl that Rhys had found in Tamlin’s court. Estella had a hard time breathing. As the Attor unleashed another attack on the girl. Rhysand was standing by Amarantha, his face emotionless, and Estella wanted to scream to lash out, to save this girl from the torment. She wrapped her arms around herself, as the screams of the human girl rang out.
Estella released a whimper when a smooth warm hand gripped the female’s hip. The scent of Autumn leaves and cinnamon overtook her senses. His thumb rubbed a circle around her bare hip. “Come to my chambers tonight, Little Viper.” Eris breath grazed her pointed ear.
Estella gritted her teeth, fighting away the tears as the sound of the broken screams rang in her ears while the Attor continued his torment, “Why? Why do you insist on tormenting me, Eris? Mor wasn’t enough for you?”
Eris’ hand stilled, his nose grazed her skin, and her heart raced. “What do you know about that day, really, My Little Viper?” He held her close to him, “I expect you in my chambers when this is done, Estella. I mean, immediately after, no getting those cute little concoctions from your cell first. Or I may let our High Queen know about what you like to do to the males who request your services.” He gripped her hip tighter than her and smirked as a spark of arousal flooded her.  The feeling singed away when he removed his hand, and Estella reluctantly missed the comfort of his touch, as the human girl gave out a gurgled scream, causing the young female’s blood to run cold.
Hours of torment and Estella knew that those screams would haunt her forever. Her bare feet padded through the halls as an Autumn court sentinel led her to the Heir of Autumn’s chambers. When they reached the door Estella bowed her head, “Thank you.” She whispered and knocked on the door.
“Enter,” Eris’s voice muffled. The raven-haired beauty stepped inside, the red gown with a blunging neckline swished at her feet. “Hello, Viper.”
“Prick.” She retorted; her sharp blue eyes met his copper liked ones. “Let’s get this over with.” She began to pull the straps of her gown down when Eris raised his hand.
“I have no interest in sleeping with you Viper.” Eris rose from his chair; his orange vest lay over top his white tunic hugging his frame. His tanned pants tucked into his brown boots that looked as though they were recently shined. His red hair pulled halfway, and Estella couldn’t deny that he was the most beautiful man she had ever encountered, but he was a wild card and lethal and made Estella’s heartbeat erratically when he closed the distance between them. “I would like to keep my life intact thank you.”
Estella swallowed and her voice low, “Then what do you want with me, Princeling?”
Eris didn’t answer, instead his hands gripped hers and he pulled her into an embrace. The female blinked as Eris gripped her tightly. The kind gesture so foreign to her from anyone other than her brother in 50 years and the emotions erupted in her. She gripped the back of his vest and buried her face in his chest and erupted into sobs. Estella had no idea why he was doing this, or how he knew she needed this, but for this moment she allowed herself the comfort of letting out a half a century worth of feelings into his chest. As Eris rested his head atop hers, hand stroking her dark hair. His other hand rubbing her back almost soothingly.
After a few moments Eris picked her upholding her knees and her back and walked her over to the bed and he leaned against the headboard as the Princess of the Night Court sobbed into the chest of the Prince of the Autumn Court. The latter whispered soothing words in her ear and warmed his hands as an extra comfort for the Princess until exhaustion took over and the viper fell asleep in the arms of the fox.

You wake up to the sun rising, orange light filling the quiet room. Eris still had his warm arms wrapped around you. You shuffle around to face him, his sleepy arms limply falling off you. A soft content sigh passes your lips as you stare at him, taking in every detail of his face. Your eyes follow along the countless freckles across his sun kissed skin and painted across his pointed nose. His pretty lips slightly parted as he breathes gently in his sleep. Your fingers come up to brush a piece of his beautiful orange hair from his face causing him to slightly stir. His eyes slowly flutter open and the piercing ambers meet you gaze as you smile at him. He smiles sleepily back and you couldn’t help but think he looks like the most beautiful thing you’ve ever seen.
Your eyes wander down his tone chest until they reach the tent in the blanket covering him. The temptation sparks an idea in you and he moans softly when your lips suddenly begin to move along his neck. Your mouth continues its journey down his body, leaving little love marks along the way. When you reach the end of his torso he looks down at you with heavy lidded eyes. You smirk mischievously up at him and watch his member twitch from the sight of you looking up at him like that.
You give a small lick up his hardness and watch as he throws his head back against the pillow. You take your time teasing him, swirling your tongue around the tip and licking up his length but never fully putting him into your mouth. You smirk to yourself watching him squirm beneath you as small whines escape him.
Just when you know he’s about to beg for more you take him as far as you can down your throat, slightly gagging before moving back up. He groans loudly and his hand reaches down to softly thread his fingers through your hair. You continue to bob your head up and down along his length as he bucks into your mouth.
“Wait…” He says in a breathless whisper you hardly hear.
You give a hard suck on his tip and he groans as his fingers squeeze harder in your hair.
“F-fuck (y/n)…” He chokes out, the sinful sound of it shooting straight to your core.
He throws his head back with a loud groan as he spills into your mouth, hips bucking into your face as you work him through his orgasm.
You crawl back up the bed and lay beside him as he catches his breath. After a moment his head turns to you with a dark look in his firey eyes that send shivers down your spine.
He quickly crawls over you and before you even have time to process what he’s doing he’s throwing your legs over his shoulders and his mouth is on your core. You gasp as his tongue works wonders on you and your heels press into his strong back.
“Eris…” You say in a whispery breath.
He growls in response, the sound vibrating against you and pushing you closer to the edge.
“Say it again.” He says in a low commanding voice that gives you chills.
“Eris…” You breathe and he groans against you again as his tongue dips into your entrance. “Eris… Eris… Eris…” You chant his name in a whisper, though you’re unsure if he can still hear you with the way your thighs now squeezed around his head.
His slender fingers slipping inside you is your undoing, you quickly grab a pillow to cover your face and moan loudly into it as your orgasm overtakes you. Eris works you through it, smirking smugly against you as you involuntarily buck your hips against his face.
Now you are the one laying there panting, mind still spinning like a tornado. Eris crawls up the bed and lays back beside you, his firey hair a total mess and a satisfied smirk on his devilishly handsome face.
“I am not ready to leave you.” Eris says quietly, his smirk fading into almost sadness.
“Then stay.” You offer with a soft smile.
“Yeah right.” He chuckles and you look to him in offence. “Morrigan will be home any day now, she would have my head if I overstayed my welcome here. In her opinion, I probably already have.”
You frown and let out a disappointed sigh knowing he is right.
“Why don’t you come live with me in Autumn?”
“What?” You ask with a confused and surprised smile. “I… I can’t do that.”
“Why not?” Eris challenges. “Your family has no need of you right now, and if they do they can always call on you. Though, I’d always want you to return home to me.”
“Home?” You say with the same confused and surprised smile.
“You said it yourself you have always loved the season, always waiting for it to come. It’s autumn year round there.”
“What about your father? I don’t think he would want me to intrude on his life.”
“Beron is far too busy focusing on himself to care at this point. Besides, it’s a large place and I’ve gotten very good at knowing where to avoid him.”
“I don’t know Eris…”
“You don’t have to answer now, my love. Just promise you’ll think about it?”
Your heart swelled at the name and you give him a smile and nod. He smiles back excitedly at you and leans over to pepper kisses all over your face making you giggle.
“I should probably speak to them alone first.” You say as you get up from bed and begin dressing for breakfast.
“You’re probably right. I shall follow you in a bit then.”
You give him a final kiss before leaving the room, walking toward the inevitable storm.
**********
You make your way to the dining room for breakfast, Feyre and Rhysand were chatting away. Azriel was quietly seated across from them and eating his own food. When they see you walk into the room you prepare yourself for the looks, the comments, the interrogation… but instead you’re met with casual ‘good mornings’.
“Did Eris stay in the guest room?” Rhysand asks you as you a take the middle seat beside Azriel, purposely putting space between him and Eris when he joins.
“W-what?” You stutter.
“I saw his jacket was still hung in the hall so I assumed he stayed overnight.” Rhys explains.
“I- yes, he did.” You clear your throat.
You could not believe they had not figured it out. Neither of you were at all quiet last night, but perhaps Rhys and Feyre thought it was Nesta and Cassian and vice versa. They seemed to have no idea you just had sex with Eris. If Azriel could smell him on you he didn’t make it known.
The nervousness in your stomach roils more when Eris strolls into the dining room, a satisfied grin still on his face. He sits in the seat right beside you and his hand instantly wanders to your thigh.
“How was your sleep Eris?” You quickly say, cutting him off before he can respond with something clever about your night together, “I do hope the guest room was quite comfortable.”
He takes in your serious expression, he raises an eyebrow in confusion but goes along with it.
“Yes, I do apologize for my intruding.” His eyes move from you to Rhys then back to you. “I did not come with the intention of staying, but…”
“It’s no trouble.” Rhys waves a hand dismissively.
Azriel’s normally blank face shows he did not agree. You let out a silent breath of relief, the feeling quickly replaced again with worry when you meet Eris’s confused eyes again.
“Would you like some?” You pass Eris the platter of pastries from your side of the table, in an attempt to cut the tension in the room.
“Yes, thank you.” He says politely as he accepts a pastry from you.
Neither of you knew what you were doing until you feel the mating bond snap into place. Not realizing when you offered him food and he accepted, that you both were accepting the mating bond. All of a sudden your skin is overly hot and you’re fighting hard against your sudden urge to go at it right now with everyone in the room.
“Please, excuse me.” You say as you stand from the table, trying to control your legs that were shaking like a day old fawn. “I’m suddenly not feeling all that well. But Eris… I do need to speak with you.”
“Yes, of course.” He rushes out of his seat a little too eagerly.
You both rush out of the room and down the nearest hall to a spot hidden from the dining room but directly in front of the sitting room you prayed no one had plans to go to soon. Your bedroom was much too far and you needed eachother now. Your whole body aching with the need to feel him.
Eris captures your lips and pushes you against the wall with his body. You help him frantically push up your skirts to your hips before he lifts you up and you wrap your legs around him. He undoes his trousers just enough to let his cock spring free before lining it up to your entrance and pushing in. You gasp and then bite your lip hard to contain your moans but the pleasure was already blinding.
It was fast, and rough, and desperate as he pounded into you against the wall as you cling for dear life to his broad shoulders. You both quickly get close to reaching your peaks, the pleasure so overwhelming you don’t even register the loud thumping sounds you were causing against the wall or the sound of footsteps coming towards you.
“What in the fuck?!” Rhysand exclaims.
Your eyes shoot open in horror to find Rhysand standing right before you. You quickly scramble away from eachother in a panic and fix your clothing.
“Rhys, I can explain.” You begin in a panic.
“You can explain it to Feyre.” He says with an unimpressed chuckle and puts his hands up in defence before walking back towards the dining room.
Oh shit oh shit oh shit, you thought. You and Eris look to eachother with worry, the expression quickly turning heated as you take eachother in, blood still racing from your mating bond and ruined orgasm.
“No.” You point your finger at him like a dog, a slight smirk on your lips.
“After you then.” He smirks back and gestures his hands out.
You take a deep shakey breath before walking to the dining room to face the storm you knew was coming for certain now.
**********
To your horror, Nesta and Cassian were now there too having breakfast and Azriel was still in his seat. Feyre looks to you, her face unreadable but not happy. As you looked into her eyes you read their expression asking is it true?
“What has Rhysand told you?” You ask, your voice coming out quieter than you intended.
“He told me saw you… you both…” She trails off, still wrapping her mind around the news.
Everyone else in the room was now alert to your conversation, the attention focused on you. Rhys must’ve told Feyre through the bond because everyone else had pure shock painted across their faces.
“It’s true.” You say plainly. “But we weren’t doing it just for fun.”
You swear you hear Eris’s smug thoughts saying even though it was very fun. Though his face remained serious.
“Eris is… we- I’m his…” You stutter, it was harder to admit to your family than you thought.
“We are mates.” Eris states confidently.
The room goes as silent as a morgue as everyone processes the words.
“You’re joking.” Cassian finally says.
“No.” You firmly retort.
“Wait… did Rhys catch you guys fucking in the hallway?!” Cassian’s jaw drops.
Your silent stare at him was answer enough.
“How…” Feyre begins, still processing. “How long have you known?”
“I cannot speak for (y/n), but truthfully I have known since the moment our eyes met at the ball.” Eris explains.
“I wasn’t asking you.” Feyre snaps at him.
“I’ve known just as long.” You counter.
“Why did you not tell me?” Feyre asks you with hurt in her voice.
Your stomach sinks further as you look to the rest of your family exchanging looks of anger, disappointment and disapproval. Just when you think things could not get worse, Mor walks into the room and spots Eris right away. No one had even heard her enter the house.
“What the hell is he doing here?” She demands, no hello or pleasantries to the rest of you first.
“You’re never going to believe this…” Azriel mumbles, shaking his head. The first words he’s spoken all morning.
“Tell her.” Cassian chuckles, though there was no humour in it.
“Eris… is my mate.” You say lowly.
“You’re joking…” Mor says, anger crossing her face.
“That’s what I said!” Cassian chimes in. “But unfortunately it’s no joke.”
“You.” Mor looks to Eris, the word like venom.
“Look Morrigan, I know you despise me. But I did not plan for this or intend to hurt you. I’ve never wanted to hurt you.” Eris defends himself.
Mor scoffs at him dismissively before turning to you.
“And have you accepted this bond?” She asks you, her angry eyes boring into yours.
“Oh has she ever…” Cassian comments and you shoot a glare at him.
“Yes… I have, I do… accept the bond.” You respond quietly.
“After everything that happened how could you be so fucking stupid?!” She seethes in rage. “Why in the hell would you possibly accept a bond with him?”
“Because I love him!” You snap back, finally having enough of all of this.
The room freezes once again as everyone stares at you. Eris eyes meet yours and he gives you a reassuring nod in support.
“I love him and honestly at this point I don’t give a fuck what you think! You’re too blinded by your hatred to even consider that he’s a good man, and he’s my mate. So although fighting you is the last thing in the world I want to do Mor… I will defend him until I am blue in the face because he’s mine.” You’re absolutely fuming as anger overtakes you, finally fed up with everyone’s negative opinions. The mating bond sparking something protective inside you.
Once again the room grows silent, everyone stunned by your outburst. You’ve never yelled at any of them, normally you’re the quiet shy one. Eris takes a silent step towards you and slides a hand into yours supportively. His touch only fans the flames of the fire inside of you, that fire of anger turning into desire. You jerk your hand away from his, feeling sorry when you see the hurt look on his face. But you couldn’t explain to him in front of everyone that it made you want to pounce on him right there.
“Well he’s not staying here…” Mor mumbles, breaking the silence as she crosses her arms.
“That’s fine! Because I’m going to Autumn.” You cross your arms back at her.
“You can’t…” Feyre says quietly, sadly.
“Yes, I can. You don’t need me anymore, and if you do… I will always answer your call for help.” You say looking directly at Feyre before turning to the entire room. “You’ll know where to find me.”
You storm out of the dining room and head directly to your bedroom to pack your things. You hear Eris mumble an apology before silently following behind you.
**********
Eris closes your bedroom door once you’re both inside, he turns to you with concern as he watches you pace back and forth in anger.
“(Y/n)…” He says lowly, causing you to finally stop pacing and look at him. “Are you… I mean, are you ok?”
Your heart ached at the hurt on his face, realizing you’ve been cold to him while caught up in your anger with your family.
“I’m so sorry my love…” You walk up to him and wrap your arms around him.
He instantly wraps his arms around you and hugs you tight and you can’t help the tears that begin to fall. He pets your hair and softly hushes you, you lean into his warmth and finally some calmness washes over you.
“I’m so sorry I was so cold to you.” You sniffle and he hugs you tighter.
“Hey, no, you weren’t. You defended me… I don’t think anyone has ever done that for me.” He reassures you and you let out a breath of relief. “Though… I was slightly offended when you yanked your hand from me.”
You pull back to look at him and he has a soft expression on his face that makes your heart melt like warm honey. As the anger and sadness fade away it’s quickly replaced with love and desire as he still holds you in his arms.
“I had my reasons…” You say to him, your voice low.
“Which were?” He asks, genuinely confused.
“Because Eris! When your skin touched mine I… it made me feel…” You take a deep breath before finally blurting out your thoughts. “I nearly pounced on you, everyone in the room disappeared and… I was about ready to fuck you in front of all of them.”
“Nothing Rhysand hasn’t seen.” He jokes with his usual sly smirk.
“I’m being serious Eris.” You roll your eyes, but your lips quirk up into a smile at the same time.
“I know, I’m sorry.” His smirk turns into a soft smile before returning again. “I can’t blame you… If you had pounced on me I don’t think I could’ve resisted that, ever since this morning I feel like a starving wolf on a chain and you’re a beautiful delicious doe I want to devour.”
“Really? Because I feel more like the wolf who wants to devour you.” Your gaze turns heated as you look into his amber eyes. “We have unfinished business…”
“That we do…” Eris grumbles, the rough sound shooting straight to your core.
You’re not sure who makes the first move but suddenly your mouths and bodies are crashing together in a burst of passion. He quickly leads you over to the bed before spinning you around and bending you over it. You rest your knees on the mattress as he quickly hikes up your skirts, the urgent need in both of you just needing enough of your bodies exposed to connect. You cry out when he enters you, no longer caring what your family heard now that they knew. Without hesitation he begins pounding into you, grunting as his fingers dig into your hips hard enough to leave bruises.
You cry out again and again as he brings you to orgasm again and again. Just when you think you’re done a new one begins, until he’s grunting loudly as he reaches his own peak pulling your hips impossibly closer against him as he spills into you. You crash forward onto the bed as you catch your breath, feeling his seed steadily leaking out of you.
The act only satisfies you for a short time while packing up your things until Eris is on his knees in front of you, climbing under your skirts to ravish you with his tongue as you cling desperately to the nearby dresser to hold yourself up.
Just as you were finally packed and about to leave the room he took you once more on the desk. The furniture slamming loudly against the wall with every quick thrust.
**********
You and Eris finally make it out of your bedroom and toward the front door. You were still fuming and had no interest in saying goodbye to anyone and you figured they wanted nothing to do with you now anyway.
“(Y/n) wait!” Feyre calls down the hall.
You and Eris turn to her as she catches up to you by the door.
“Are you here to try to convince me to stay?” You ask, your tone dry.
“No.” She shakes her head and takes your hands in hers. “I wanted to tell you that I love you and I just want what is best for you. And if he makes you happy…” She glances to Eris. “Then I am happy for you sister.”
You pull her into a tight hug, tears falling down both of your faces at her words. It meant more to you than she could even know.
“Thank you Feyre.” You whisper. “I love you too.”
You part and your eyes meet full of understanding and sisterly love.
“We all want you to be happy.” Feyre says.
“Well…” You begin.
“She’ll come around.” She reassures you. “They all will.”
“Maybe.” You half shrug and she gives you a final tight hug.
“Take good care of my sister.” Feyre says to Eris.
“I will.” He responds with a genuine smile.
You sigh as you take in the house and your sister one last time, grateful the others were not saying goodbye right now. It would take time for them to understand so you’d give them that space.
**********
Eris winnows you both to Autumn court, right outside the front doors of the palace. You suck in a breath as you take in the beauty around you, the colourful trees all around and the gorgeous building in front of you, your new home.
“Wait here while I warn Beron of our arrival.” He says to you.
“Warn him? I thought you said he wouldn’t care if I stay here?” You ask with worry in your tone.
“Don’t worry, my love. Trust me, he won’t care. But that doesn’t mean he will be nice about it…”
You nod and watch as Eris disappears behind the large doors. After a short while he returns, holding his hand out to you.
“Shall we?” He smiles.
“Where are we going?” You ask as your hand slips into his.
“To our part of the court.” He grins.
“Our part?” You raise your brow and his grin widens but he doesn’t respond.
You walk in silence enjoying the serene sounds of the trickling water of the nearby river and the crunch of coloured leafs beneath your feet. It was an oddly comfortable silence, just enjoying eachothers presence as you walk hand in hand. The weather was perfect, cool yet warm with a light wind blowing through your hair. The sun had begun to set and filled the afternoon sky with beautiful stokes of pink and orange.
Eventually he leads you to the other side of the building and through another door. The inside was even more beautiful than the exterior. The grand house was still somehow warm and cozy feeling, reds and oranges and golds beautifully decorating every detail. Eris smiles down at you as he watches you take it all in, your face in pure awe.
He leads you to your new shared bedroom, even more beautifully decorated than the hallways. The large canopy bed had red and brown sheets with a gold trim along the edges and on the headboard. Your eyes turn from the bed to Eris and he meets your gaze with sudden fire in them.
Your lips meet quickly but the kiss is slow and tender. Neither of you in any hurry now as pieces of clothing are removed one by one and you fall in a heap on the bed. He takes his sweet time with you, kissing and licking every single inch of your body as you squirm against the bed in anticipation as his mouth movies up your inner thigh. He tastes you but only for a moment, making you whine when he stops and continues kissing his way back up your body. Then he finally enters you and his thrusts are slow but deep, making you moan loudly every time he hit that spot deep inside of you. Your eyes hardly left each other, the intense eye contact fuelling the desire between you. The orangey light shining in through the windows glowed against your skin making you both look ethereal. The entire moment felt like a dream.
By the time you’re finished the sun had gone down and the only light left in the room is the single flickering candle beside the bed. You happily begin to doze off in his warm arms, finally feeling at peace after all the chaos of the day.
“Psst, hey. Don’t fall asleep yet love.” Eris whispers to you.
“Hmm, why?” You mumble sleepily.
“Get dressed and I’ll show you.” He smirks as he gets up from the bed, taking his warmth with him.
You whine and he smirks at you.
“It will be worth it I promise, just put on a robe we aren’t going far.”
You huff as you reluctantly get up from bed and do as he says, throwing a thick sleeping robe on to cover your bare body. He offers you his hand and as soon as you take it he winnows you somewhere else.
You adjust your eyes to the new sight before you, now on an outdoor roof terrace of the palace with the moon and stars shining bright about you. Hundreds of white pumpkins decorated the circular frame of the space and nearly thousands of candles among them as they flickered in the breeze. It was absolutely breathtaking.
“Eris what is all of this?” You question with your back still to him.
When he doesn’t respond you turn around and a small gasp escapes you. Eris was crouched on one knee before you, holding up a dazzling ring that seemed to sparkle amongst the bright stars.
“(Y/n) Archeron…” He begins and tears quickly form in your eyes. “I’ve spent many years of this life alone, or with pointless company that I may as well have been alone… But meeting you has changed me completely. I feel like the luckiest male in this world to have found you. My beautiful, kind, witty, wild mate.”
Tears roll freely down your cheeks now and you notice the silver lining his own eyes.
“If you let me, I will spend the rest of my life trying to make you as happy as you have made me in such a short time.” He continues. “(Y/n) Archeron… Will you marry me?”
“Eris…” You can barely speak through the choked up tears. “Of course, of course I will!”
The gigantic smile that crosses his face warms your heart. He slips the ring onto your finger before standing and scooping you up. You wrap your arms around his shoulders, giggling as he twirls you around happily. Once he places you back on your feet his lips meet yours.
“I love you more than I can put into words…” He mumbles against your lips.
“I love you so much Eris.” You smile before bringing your lips back to his.
The kiss suddenly turns more heated as the mating bond surges through your veins like fire once again. Your bodies make their way down to the stone ground, your robe acting as a blanket beneath you and falling open at the front, Eris quickly undoes his pants and you’re connected once again. This time felt even different as you solidified your eternal commitment to eachother. Gold light flowed between you brighter than the endless candles or stars shining above you, the light shimmering off the white pumpkins all around you. Your vision is blurry from the pleasure but you swear you saw a shooting star. The beauty of everything, of him, was overwhelming as you cried out reaching your peak again and again.
As the fire of him completely consumed you, for the first time in your life you felt like you were finally where you always belonged.

Cakes
Eris Vanserra x his (and Rhea's) daughter
For @erisweekofficial
Eris Week 2024 Masterlist
Day 2: Childhood/Legacy
Summary: Eris takes a step towards not being like his father while putting firm boundaries with his daughter.
Cw: Fluff, a lil angst
Tumblr media Tumblr media
"Dalia Cersei Vanserra." Eris crossed his arms over his chest, watching his daughter sitting in the middle of the kitchen, chocolate cakes on the floor, his daughter's chubby cheeks and lips covered in the desert. "Why are you up at this hour?"
The little girl gasps and looks up at him, her violet eyes wide like a deer caught in headlights, "Da!" Dalia giggles, her small hands trying to wipe off some of the chocolate from her face but only smearing it further. "Da! Hi Da!" She says again, looking at her father with bright eyes full of excitement.
He chuckles softly, reaching down to scoop her up into his strong arms, feeling her tiny body squirming against him as he holds her close. "What are you doing awake, sweetheart? It's the middle of the night."
Her eyes light up even more at the sound of his voice, she starts babbling something about cakes and rolls and milk while pointing towards the open door leading out to the kitchen.
Dalia was always full of energy, especially when there was food involved, anything sweet had the girl on a roll. Dalia's tiny hands flew up to her mouth as she tried to stifle a giggle, her body shaking with suppressed laughter. The sight of her father's stern look, only made the situation more comical in her innocent mind. She couldn't help but let out a snort.
Eris raised an eyebrow, his expression unchanging despite the adorable scene before him. He held Dalia closer as he walked, his bare feet thudding against the tile floor. "Did you hear me, young lady?" he asked firmly, trying to maintain his authoritative tone amidst the chaos of his daughter's antics, refusing to smile and let her get away with being way past her sleep time and sending herself into a sugar rush.
He tried to recall what his mate had said, that if he wouldn't even try to discipline their daughter he might end up at the other extreme opposite to his father, he sighed softly, looking at the precious girl he had made with his lovely Rheana, the said girl was happily licking her fingers to clean the chocolate. He would explain to her how what she did was wrong, make sure she understood it, it should be easy enough, instead of whatever his father would've done, which was strike at him in different ways. Eris' eyes darkened at the thought of any harm like that coming to the precious bundle in his arms.
He felt the darkness shifting in the room, his love was watching, there for him if he needed help, but Eris refused to call upon her, determined to handle this situation himself. he set his girl down in her bed in her cosy room.
Eris sat down in front of Dalia, his large frame towering over her yet maintaining eye contact, ensuring he had her full attention. He took one of her small, sticky hands in his own, giving it a gentle squeeze. His voice softened, yet remained firm, "Little one, what you're doing is called sneaking out of your bed in the middle of the night, remember? We decided it wasn't a good thing, right?"
Dalia nodded, her eyes still wide but filled with curiosity rather than fear. She tilted her head slightly, her braided red hair swaying gently behind her. "But… I just wanted a treat, dada."
Eris smiled warmly at her honesty, then explained, "It's not about wanting a treat, sweetheart. It's about following rules. You see, your Mama and I work hard to keep you safe and healthy."
His words were calm, as he looked at her, he couldn't understand how his father had done what he did while looking into the eyes on his daughter, if he too had looked up this innocently at his father for answers and was met with torture instead, "And part of keeping you safe means making sure you're sleeping soundly in your bed."
He stroked her chocolate-covered hands. "This," he emphasized, pointing at the sweet desert remains, "Is delicious, yes? But we need to be careful when we eat things like these because they give us energy, and too much energy all at once could make our bodies sick."
As he spoke, he waved his hand, his magic cleaning his daughter fully. "So, while having a taste is okay sometimes, we shouldn’t fill ourselves up so late at night. That’s why bedtime snacks aren’t allowed, okay?"
Dalia's eyes squinted a little in confusion, "But you and Mama say I can get anything I want in life if I try hard enough... And I really wanted some chocolate cake."
Eris let out a hearty laugh at his daughter's innocent bewilderment, "Well, my love, you still have a sleep time, don't you? If you don't sleep at night, you will be tired in the morning and miss the sparrows." He then only noticed the door of her room, scorch marks on the handle, she had used her budding power to open the door to her room, like mother like daughter for sure.
Dalia gasped at the thought of missing her sparrows, setting herself back in bed and closing her eyes, mumbling something about the birdies. After a moment she opened a single eye to see Eris still standing there, then closed them again, pretending to be asleep.
His heart melted at the sight of his little girl faking sleep, another trick she'd learned from her mother. He gave her a tender kiss on the forehead, murmuring, "Goodnight, princess."
"I'm sorry, Da." Dalia called out as Eris stood at the door to her room, "I'll be good and rest... Can we play together in the morning with the sparrows?"
Eris turned around, a warm smile spreading across his face as he gazed lovingly at his daughter. "Of course we can, sweetheart. In fact, after breakfast, we'll go outside and build a special feeder just for those feathered friends of yours. But first, you must promise to stay in bed until the sun rises. No sneaking out for midnight treats, deal?"
Dalia's eyelids fluttered open, her violet eyes sparkling with excitement at the prospect of spending time with her father. "Deal, Da! I promise!"
With that, Eris quietly exited the room, leaving a contented and sleepy little girl to drift off into slumber, dreaming of sparrow-filled mornings ahead.
With one last lingering glance at his babe, he left the room quietly, shutting the door behind him with a soft click. As he walked back to his bedroom, he found his Rheana waiting for him. "Everything alright?" She asked, concern etched on her beautiful features.
He smiled reassuringly at his mate, pulling her close and planting a soft kiss on her forehead. "Everything's fine, my love. Our little troublemaker is fast asleep now, dreaming of birds and chocolate cake."
Rheana let out a soft sigh, her body relaxing against his touch. "I wasn't worried for a moment. You handled that beautifully."
Eris tensed slightly as he remembered his childhood, memories of his abusive upbringing threatening to resurface. However, he quickly pushed them aside, focusing instead on the warmth and comfort of his mate's embrace. "Yes, well… I refuse to repeat history. Our children will know nothing but love and understanding under our roof."
Eris snuggled into Rheana's arms, his head resting under her chin, arms wrapped around her muscular form, he couldn't help his memories as they threatened to drown him.
"Hey..." Rheana whispered softly, feeling his distress, "Would you like to talk about it?" She asked, wrapping her arms around him, knowing his needed to be held without even asking.
"No," He finally answered, "Let's leave it where it belongs, in the past. There's no point dwelling on the mistakes of our fathers."
But still, as he said, he couldn't help but think of his own childhood, how he enjoyed nature, the red falling leaves, jumping on them to see how hard they would crunch, but his father had not liked it, that he was having fun. The first time Beron had raised his hand on him, he had beaten him bloody for having fun with his brothers on the autumn leaves
Memories flooded Eris' mind, each one a painful reminder of the cruelty he endured growing up. He recalled the countless times his father's fists had connected with his skin, whips, knives, the blood dripping down his face, the searing pain that never seemed to subside. Even now, centuries later, the scars ran deep, both physical and emotional.
As he lay there, lost in the darkness of his past, Rheana's soothing presence brought him back to the present. Her gentle strokes along his back and the comforting weight of her body against his own served as a balm to his troubled soul.
"I remember when you first told me about your childhood," Rheana murmured, her breath warm against his ear. "It broke my heart to know you suffered through such torment. But you're strong, Eris."
"You're worth so much, my love." Rheana kissed his cheek and neck, "My precious fire. Beron is dead. Our children have an advantage of never knowing him. Yes, we'll make mistakes, it's inevitable to, but what's most important is for her to have her safe place with us, the rest we'll figure out as we go."
Her words, laced with love and affection, worked their magic, slowly drawing him out of the depths of despair. The sensation of her lips against his skin sent a tingling sensation coursing through his veins, reminding him of the warmth and safety he found in her arms. "I love you, Rhea."
Slowly, the shadows of his past receded, replaced by the bright glow of his future with Rheana. He knew he could overcome any hardship as long as he had her by his side.
"I love you too," Rheana smiled softly, cupping his cheeks, planting kisses all over his face, "For anything you might need from me. Forever."

You arrived at the autumn court, feeling nauseous after the past events of the day. Azriel, the mate you’d loved ever since you met him so long ago, wasn't yours anymore. Looking up, Eris was already by your side, concern in his eyes.
“What happened, love?” He calmly asked.
“Azriel… Elain'' That was the only words that came out of your mouth, tears streaming down your face. But Eris didn't need anything else, he understood. You had told him about your concerns with Azriel and Elain earlier. Eris pulled you into a hug and you just stood there crying out for what felt like an eternity until the world became dark and you fell into a long dreamless sleep.
__________________________________
It had gone weeks since you got to the autumn court and you and Eris were closer than ever. Since Beron had been assassinated just months before there was a lot to fix here, laws to remove and things to change. You had helped Eris all you could, even if he said that you should rest and regain your strength. But you’d just laughed it off. Working distracted you and when Eris realized that he’d given you your own office and now you could sit all day working and helping people in need.
Suddenly you heard a knock on the door and Eris walked in.
“Good afternoon sweetie, care for a stroll in the gardens? I’ve got dinner so we can have a picnic.” He told you. You hadn't really realized that it was already afternoon. Guess time goes faster when you have fun.
“Yeah, sure” Only now realizing how hungry you were.”I'm starving,” you added with a little giggle.
“Good you really should take more breaks from working, otherwise you're going to get wrinkles all over your beautiful face!” Eris joked and you shared a laugh. A laugh, that was the first time since Azriel cheated you’d actually laughed. Adoration shone from Eris' eyes, he really looked like you were his sun, the only thing that mattered to him.
“Come on, I wanna eat before it gets dark!” You giggled, dragging him out in the fresh air. You and Eris walked around in the gardens for a bit before you got to your usual place, a beautiful orange tree beside a river. As you spread out the blanket Eris took out the stuff that was in his mystery basket. Strawberries, wine, pancakes and even more delicious things that made your mouth water. You sat and ate and talked for a while and when the time had reached midnight the two of you were drunk, like really drunk.
“You look really pretty tonight Y/N” He told you.
“ So do you, handsome.”
As his eyes met yours the both of you leaned forward and your lips met. The kiss wasn't gentle nor sweet, it was passionate, needy. As the kiss deepened something clicked. Maybe you and Azriel were wrong for each other. Because the passion you felt with Eris was something that you never had experienced earlier.
Carefully Eris laid you down on the blanket.
“Is this okay with you love?” he asked nicely.
“Yes, Eris, yes.” You mumbled into his hair. And so you ended up making love in the fresh autumn air.

The next morning you were woken up by a gentle kiss pressed against your forehead.
“Good morning love, how are you feeling?” Eris asked.
“Amazing, how do you feel?” You asked with a sleepy voice.
“Better than ever.” He said, now trailing kisses down your neck. “But we have to talk about us.” He continued.
“Of course, Eris I love you, a part of me always has, as you were the one who took care of me all those months ago when we got back from Under the mountain. You were there for me when no one else was, not even my mate. I totally understand if you don't have the same fee-” Eris cut you off with a kiss, a kiss so different from the one you shared before, this was so much more… Real. He wasn't leaving you.
“I love you Y/n, you're my world, I've loved you for so long, always thinking that you didn't see me in that way, we can take it slow if you want, but you’re the one I want by my side, forever.” Eris declared.
“Your little drama queen.” Was the only thing you could get out of your mouth, to shocked by the fact that Eris, the boy you’d had a crush on since you were so very young, was declaring his love before you.
“Well I'm your drama queen.” He laughed pulling you into another kiss.
__________________________________
Months past and you and Eris just grew closer. Your family had made several attempts to see you but you didn't feel ready. They had abandoned you when you needed them the most and you couldn't just forget that. Rhysands had said in a letter that everyone was missing me and that Cassian, Mor and Amren almost had killed Azriel for what he’d done. They were all sorry and just wanted me to come home.But the Night court wasn't your home anymore. Slowly you’d begun to love The Autumn Court and Eris and you had gotten married just days ago. Now you’re Autumn's high lady. It wasn't official. Just the court knew and you wanted to wait before declaring it, or at least make it dramatical. You and Eris had discussed when and where and then the perfect opportunity showed up:
 A High Lord (and lady) meeting was to be held at the Day Court, to discuss the restoration of Prythian. And you were going to be there, but for the first time you weren't going to stand by your brother's side, no you were going to have your own throne next to Eris. If you were going to see Rhys you were going to do it on your own accord. That was when you were going to reveal your title. And that meeting, that meeting was today. Right now you were packing and planning what to talk about, what to wear and how to act. You’d known Helion since you were a little kid and the two of you’d always gotten along. He was like you, hiding all his troubles with humor and you hoped that your friendship would help to stabilize an official, and well needed, alliance between the Day Court and the Autumn court.
“Love, are you ready? We have to get going now!” Eris said as he entered your room, greeting you with a kiss on your cheek.
“Yeah let me just get changed real quick!” You murmured to him.
“Do you need a hand?” He asked playfully.
“No we don't have much time and I have a feeling that if you help me my dress is probably going off instead of on” You told him and quickly went into your ginormous wardrobe, an adorable chuckle following you. The dress you had chosen to wear was a piece of art. It was a clear beautiful red color which faded out into endless yellows and oranges. The bodice looked to be made of leaves in all of autumn's colors. It was in short just… Ethereal. You quickly got changed and right outside your room you saw the pleasant sight of your husband leaning against the doorframe. He was clad in a stunning tailored suit, a suit that matched your dress perfectly. In his hand he held the tiara version of the crown that covered the top of his head. He sweetly placed it on top of your head and then held out his arm for you to take. You laid your arm on his and a couple moments later you had arrived in Helions favored castle.
Eris had winnowed the two of you to one of the many entrances where the two of you were greeted by a couple guards. They scienly led you into a ginormous, beautiful room with a glass roof painted in gorgeous golden patterns. Around a round marble table 8 chairs were placed. You quickly realized that the two of you were the first to arrive since the only people in the room, beside the two of you, were Helion and a couple guards. When he saw us he strode towards us with softness in his gaze.
“Y/N! Long time no see. I heard what happened in the Night court and I became so worried that I wouldn't get to see you here!” He greeted you coming in for a hug. You wrapped your arms around his broad figure as he lifted you up, spinning you in the air.
“Oh and hello to you too Eris, what a fine Lady you have gotten your hands on.” Helion said as he put you down.
Eris answered with a chuckle and then spoke. “Fine indeed. Helion could you be an angel and ask your guards to get another chair. We can't have Autumn's High Lady stand through the whole meeting!” He announced.
“High Lady? Well Y/N I guess congratulations are in order-” Helion abruptly stopped and you knew what just happened. You spun around quickly, Eris clinging to your arm, offering support, as you uttered the words “Hello big brother.”

Part 1 ----------- Part 2
Eris Vanserra x rhysand sister reader!
Summary: rhysand's sister has always felt lonely considering all the demons and skeletons from her past make her heart ice cold. What happens when she meets someone who has enough fire to warm her heart and unravel her?
Note: hi everyone this is my first time ever posting a story, I have always been addicted to writing but I have never publicly showcased my work. Therefore I urge you all to enjoy this. Feel free to leave a comment about what you think :)
♧------------------------------------------------------------♧
You clutched the fabric of your dress, a breathtaking gown that shimmered with every subtle movement. The deep, royal blue material cascaded down to the floor in luxurious folds, catching the light and creating a mesmerizing array of sparkling reflections that mimicked the starry night sky. The bodice was meticulously crafted, hugging your curves with an almost ethereal grace. Tiny, delicate crystals were sewn into the fabric, forming intricate patterns that danced along the neckline and down the fitted sleeves. These sleeves, adorned with intricate floral patterns, exposed just a hint of skin, creating an alluring contrast against the otherwise modest design.
The slit of the dress was daring, extending provocatively up to your upper thigh. With each step, it revealed a tantalizing glimpse of your leg, adding an element of sensuality to the otherwise elegant ensemble. The cool night air whispered against your exposed skin, sending a shiver down your spine. Despite the chill, you felt a surge of confidence wearing the dress, its beauty giving you a sense of empowerment.
The Night Court had always been your sanctuary, a haven with your brother Rhysand and his mate, Feyre, after the harrowing events under the mountain. You silently cursed Amarantha for ever laying her hands on him, for the ball of trauma she had inflicted, now masked by his composed exterior. Tonight was a reunion for all the High Lords and their families, celebrating Amarantha's defeat. The meeting was to take place in the Court of Nightmares, a place you dreaded—not only because of Keir, but also because of the lecherous behavior prevalent there. Everyone had to mentally prepare to ensure nothing went wrong. You hated that daily routine of donning a cold mask, a habit that began over a hundred years ago...
"Kill the woman first," Tamlin's father barked, his voice cold and merciless.
"No, please, no. I'm begging you, please don't," you pleaded, your throat raw from weeping. Blood coated your arms and legs, seeping from the wounds on your back where the High Lord of the Spring Court had tried to clip your wings. The pain was excruciating, but it was nothing compared to the terror you felt for your mother. Your wings had vanished when he tried, baffling him and fueling his rage. In his anger, he slapped you, the sting of it radiating from your cheek.
"It's okay, please do it to me but let her go," your mother sobbed, her voice trembling with fear and desperation. You tried to protest, but your mouth was clamped shut by some unseen force, preventing you from speaking or moving. You were helpless, forced to watch as the nightmare unfolded before you.
The High Lord of the Spring Court approached your mother with a knife, its blade glinting ominously in the dim light. Your mother looked at you with tear-filled eyes, her face etched with sorrow and resignation. "I love you," she mouthed, her lips trembling.
You screamed against the spell that held you, your heart shattering with every step he took. The knife glinted in the light, each reflection a dagger to your soul. He reached your mother, and without hesitation, he slashed her neck. Blood spurted from the wound, staining the ground crimson. Your mother crumpled to the floor, her eyes wide with shock and pain.
A guttural scream tore from your throat, louder and more primal than any sound you had ever made. It broke the spell that bound you, and Tamlin and his father staggered back, their faces painted with agony and shock. You rushed to your mother's side, falling to your knees beside her lifeless body.
"Mother, no," you sobbed, cradling her head in your hands. Blood seeped between your fingers, warm and sticky. Her eyes, once so full of life and love, were now empty and glassy. You rocked back and forth, your cries echoing through the cold, heartless chamber. The world around you seemed to blur and fade, your vision clouded by tears.
Suddenly, a familiar presence enveloped you, a comforting darkness that wrapped around your soul. Your brother Rhysand appeared, his power crackling in the air, but it was too late. The light in your mother’s eyes had already faded, her body growing cold in your arms. Rhysand's eyes widened with horror as he took in the scene, his rage palpable.
"She’s gone," you whispered, your voice broken and hollow. "She’s really gone."
Rhysand knelt beside you, his hand gently resting on your shoulder. "I’m so sorry," he murmured, his voice thick with grief. "I’m so, so sorry."
The pain was unbearable, a searing agony that consumed your entire being. You clung to your mother’s lifeless form, your sobs echoing in the silence. The room around you seemed to spin, the walls closing in as darkness began to creep into your vision.
And then, everything went black.
When you awoke, the memory of your mother’s death was etched into your mind, a scar that would never heal. The image of her lifeless body, the blood, the pain, all of it haunted you. It was a nightmare that you relived over and over, a wound that time would never mend.
Tears sprang to your eyes, but you held them in. "Are you all right?" Azriel asked, his voice soft but filled with concern. His eyes searched yours, a hint of worry flickering in their depths. You smiled, stood from your seat, and quickly brushed away invisible stains on your dress, avoiding eye contact. "If you need to talk, I'm here, you know," Azriel spoke softly. You glanced up at him. Azriel wore a tunic of deep, rich purple that seemed to complement his dark, mysterious aura perfectly. The fabric clung to his muscular frame in all the right places, accentuating his strength and grace. It was clear that every detail of his outfit had been carefully chosen, from the intricate stitching along the seams to the subtle shimmer of the fabric in the candlelight.
The tunic was adorned with subtle embroidery, delicate patterns that seemed to dance along the fabric like shadows in the moonlight. The designs were understated yet elegant, adding a touch of sophistication to Azriel's otherwise simple attire.
His hair was freshly combed, the strands falling in dark waves around his face. Each lock seemed to catch the light, creating a halo of darkness that framed his chiseled features. There was a quiet confidence in the way he carried himself, a sense of power and authority that was impossible to ignore."You look handsome tonight, Shadowsinger," you said with a deflecting grin. He sighed, not appreciating the change of subject.
Just then as you stood there, bathed in the soft glow of moonlight, a gentle hand touched you from behind .You turned and your heart swelled with warmth as you beheld Feyre, her eyes sparkling with affection and admiration. She wore a gown as resplendent as your own, adorned with jewels that seemed to catch the light and reflect it back in a dazzling display of beauty.
"Feyre," you breathed, a smile spreading across your lips. Her presence was like a balm to your soul, a reminder that you were not alone in this world."You look stunning," Feyre said, her voice soft and full of sincerity. She reached out, taking your hands in hers, her touch gentle and reassuring. "Truly, you take my breath away."
Tears pricked at the corners of your eyes, moved by her words and the genuine love that shone in her gaze. "Thank you," you whispered, your voice barely more than a breath. "You look absolutely radiant yourself."
Feyre's smile widened, and she pulled you into a warm embrace, holding you close as if she never wanted to let go. The scent of her hair, mingled with the subtle perfume of flowers, enveloped you in a sense of comfort and belonging.
"I'm so glad you're here," Feyre murmured against your hair, her voice filled with emotion. "Tonight is a celebration of freedom, of hope, of new beginnings. And I couldn't imagine sharing it with anyone else."
You squeezed her hand, feeling a surge of gratitude and love for this woman who had become not just a friend, but a sister to you. "I'm glad to be here too," you replied, your voice steady despite the tears that threatened to spill over. "With you, by my side, I feel like I can face anything."
Feyre pulled back, her eyes searching yours with an intensity that took your breath away. "You're stronger than you know," she said, her voice soft but filled with conviction. "And tonight, we'll show the world just how powerful you truly are."
As you shared a tender moment with Feyre, a familiar presence approached from behind. You turned to find Rhysand standing there, his eyes shining with pride and love. His gaze swept over you, taking in every detail of your gown with a mixture of awe and admiration.
"Wow," he breathed, his voice filled with genuine admiration. "You look absolutely breathtaking."
A smile tugged at the corners of your lips at his words, feeling a swell of warmth in your chest at his sincere praise. Rhysand had always been a pillar of strength and support, and his approval meant more to you than words could express.
"Thank you, Rhys," you replied, your voice soft but filled with gratitude. "It means the world to me."
Rhysand stepped closer, his hand reaching out to brush a stray lock of hair from your face. His touch was gentle, yet electric, sending a shiver down your spine. "You deserve all the happiness in the world," he murmured, his eyes searching yours with an intensity that made your heart skip a beat. "And tonight, I hope you find it."
"I'm just grateful to have you both by my side," you said, your voice thick with emotion. "You and Feyre mean everything to me."
Rhysand smiled, a soft, affectionate smile that reached his eyes. "We'll always be here for you," he said, his voice filled with conviction. "No matter what" you gave him a small smile.
"I suppose Nesta and Cassian won't be joining us tonight," Rhysand remarked, a hint of amusement in his voice. Feyre chuckled, shaking her head knowingly. "I believe they've found a different way to celebrate," she said with a teasing smile. Rhysand groaned theatrically, rolling his eyes. "Let's just hope they don't add to the drama with some new trauma," he quipped, his tone filled with mock exasperation.
Feyre giggled, her laughter ringing with warmth and affection. She nudged Rhysand playfully. "Oh, come now. They're just taking advantage of the freedom we fought so hard for," she said, her eyes dancing with mirth.
Rhysand sighed dramatically. "Well, let's hope they remember their manners this time," he said with a smirk, earning a laugh from Feyre.
You linked your hands with Azriel and shot Rhys a wink and a smirk. "Not like you were any different, brother." Feyre laughed, and Rhys nudged her playfully before Azriel winnowed you away.
The ballroom was opulently decorated, the light casting a warm glow on the throng of guests. All the High Lords were present: Tarquin, Tamlin—who you barely glanced at—Kallias and Vivien, looking regal as always, and Beron with his son Eris. You despised Eris for what he did to your cousin Mor, the reason she couldn't attend tonight.
For a moment, your gazes locked. Eris's amber eyes roamed over you, lingering on the delicate embroidery that adorned your gown, the way it hugged your curves with subtle grace. There was a glint of curiosity in his gaze, an intensity that sent a shiver down your spine. His smirk deepened slightly, a knowing glint flickering in his eyes as he took in your appearance.
You felt the heat rise in your cheeks under his unabashed scrutiny, a mixture of annoyance and a strange thrill. With a subtle shift, you turned away but his amber eyes seemed to catch yours at every turn despite your efforts to avoid him, a smirk forming on his lips as he assessed you. You blushed, heat rising to your cheeks as you took your seat next to Azriel.
Rhysand began briefing everyone as each High Lord took turns expressing their joy at being free.
You looked down as Feyre spoke, "Please enjoy this party, take it as a new beginning." All the High Lords rose and began to mingle. You stood, but Azriel caught your hand. "Where are you going?" he asked, worry in his eyes. "Relax, Azriel, I'm just getting a drink," you said, and he nodded, releasing you. Rhysand seemed to have noticed and looked at Azriel; you knew they were communicating silently. As you moved gracefully through the crowded ballroom, the delicate fabric of your gown rustling with each step, you made your way towards the wine table. The air was filled with laughter and music, the chatter of High Lords and Ladies mingling in a harmonious symphony of celebration.
Just as you reached for a glass of wine, a sudden commotion broke out nearby. A drunken couple stumbled past you, their unsteady steps threatening to knock into you.
You stumbled, your balance faltering as you teetered on your heels. In an instant, you felt a pair of strong hands grip your waist, steadying you before you could fall. Heat surged through your body at the contact, your heart pounding in your chest. You looked up, breath hitching, and met those familiar amber eyes. Eris. His gaze was intense, filled with a mix of amusement and something deeper, something that made your pulse quicken. The smirk on his lips was infuriatingly confident as his hands lingered on your waist, the warmth of his touch seeping through the thin fabric of your dress.
"Careful," he murmured, his voice a low, seductive drawl that sent shivers down your spine. "Wouldn't want you to hurt yourself."
His words were laced with a teasing edge, but there was an underlying sincerity that made your heart skip a beat. You tried to step back, to create some distance between you, but his hands tightened slightly, holding you in place. The room around you seemed to blur, the noise of the party fading into the background as your senses narrowed to the man standing before you.
"You should watch where you're going," he continued, his eyes never leaving yours. "This place can be dangerous."
"Thank you," you managed to say, your voice trembling slightly despite your best efforts to appear unaffected. You cleared your throat, trying to regain your composure. "But I can take care of myself."
He chuckled softly, a rich, melodic sound that sent another wave of heat through you. "I'm sure you can," he replied, his fingers brushing a stray lock of hair from your face. The touch was light, almost tender, and it took everything in you not to lean into it.
You finally managed to step back, his hands reluctantly releasing you as you put some much-needed distance between you. "Is that any way to thank someone?" Eris drawled, the smirk never leaving his face.
You took a steadying breath, trying to ignore the lingering warmth from his touch and the way your heart was still racing. "Thank you," you said again, more firmly this time. "But I don't need your help."
"Of course," he said, inclining his head slightly. "But the offer stands."
With that, he turned and walked away, leaving you standing there, your mind swirling with a mixture of irritation and something else—something you weren't quite ready to acknowledge. You watched him go, his confident stride and the way the light caught his hair making it hard to look away.
Finally, you took a deep breath and made your way back to your seat, trying to ignore the way your skin still tingled where he had touched you. You sat down next to Azriel, who gave you a questioning look. "Are you all right?" he asked.
"Yes," you replied, offering him a reassuring smile. "Just ran into an old... acquaintance."
Azriel's gaze flicked briefly to where Eris had gone, a flicker of understanding in his eyes. "If you need anything..."
"I know," you said, cutting him off gently. "Thank you, Azriel."
As the night went on, you tried to focus on the celebration, on the laughter and the music and the sense of freedom that permeated the room. But every now and then, your thoughts would drift back to Eris, to the way his hands had felt on your waist and the look in his eyes. And you couldn't help but wonder if there was more to him than you had ever realized.

summary: Selaene, Rhysand's sister, Azriel's mate runs away after the High Lord of Spring tries to kill her.
warnings: death

"Mother! Selaene! Father!" Rhysand's voice echoes through the mountains, but the Illyrian Steppes remain silent before his prayers. With his hands in his hair, his grip so tight it tears them apart, the male's knees give way, and at this point, he does not care who sees him. Sobs shake his entire body as he slumps to the ground, and he does not even feel the frozen snow soaking his clothes. He feels nothing but the pain of that loss. All he can do is think, after his family was killed, that it was all his fault. His sister had tried to call him, but he did not arrive in time, and now they are all dead. He opens his eyes just wide enough to look at the patch of his mother's blood mixed with Selaene's blood smearing the white snow. The sight is almost poetic. He will get his revenge, whoever was the bastard who killed two of the most important people in his life. And his father.
He hears footsteps behind him but he doesn't compose himself, not caring who might see the future High Lord of the Night Court in that state.
"Brother...," it's Cassian, he realizes. He lays a hand on his shoulder, trying to comfort him.
"Get the fuck away." And as he has arrived, he leaves, silent. Around him, a gentle breeze caresses his face, the only uncovered part of him. It should be icy but tepid, as if it were a last goodbye, a last cuddle from his family before they leave forever. More sobs make his body shake. He takes off his gloves and slips his hands into the snow, the pain in his scalp fades and he immediately regrets it. But it's quickly replaced by the snow that is so cold it burns his palms. He deserves it, he thinks, he deserves it after failing to protect those he loves.
He stays there an indefinite time. His clothes are soaked and the sun is setting, now the air is so cold it freezes his bones, and Rhysand stands up shivering like a small child.
Before he leaves he makes a promise to himself. It doesn't matter how, only that no one he loves will ever die from his lack of attention again. He will never again fail in his task. With one last look at the blood-stained snow, an action he is not ready to do-but must, he leaves, leaving his mother, father, and sister for one last time. When he returns to the Wind House, he does not find Azriel. He enters and each step seems heavier than the last. He does not bother not to drag his wings, does not care about appearances. Even breathing becomes too strenuous. He finds Cassian sitting at the table, his cheeks streaked with tears. At the sight of his brother so grief-stricken Rhysand cannot hold them back himself. He sits at the table with him, the house so cold and empty without the laughter of the two females. He wonders if one day he will forget even the sound of their voices.
"Azriel?" he asks after what seems like infinity. The broken voice reaches Cassian's ears distantly. When he answers, his voice is a reflection of his brother's. "He... he's gone mad, Rhys."
A heavy silence fills the air with tension.
"I'm going to kill him, Cassian."
"I know, Rhys. I know. But Azriel may already be thinking about it."
Cassian looks at his brother in the eyes. His gaze dull, his eyes red and puffy. They make him look centuries older. The warrior believes that he himself is in the same condition as Rhysand. Selaene and her mother have also been his family, have been the only family.
"Do you know where he is?"
"No. He woke me up at dawn after he heard-he heard Selaene die from the bond. Goddamn, Rhysand." The brother's voice cracks so hard. They have never cried like this in the nearly seventy years they have known each other. Rhysand watches the Illyrian warrior, his brother, fall apart before him. Something in his gaze changes.
"Find Azriel. I'll take care of the bastard." At the change in his brother's tone, Cassian lifts his face in surprise. "Do you-do you know who-?"
"Who could it have been but Tamlin'." He points this out in a voice so distant that the warrior wonders how he can plan a murder under these conditions. "Brother, I don't think-"
"No, Cassian. Find Azriel and let me have my revenge."
The warrior can do nothing but nod. Before he goes, he takes one last look at his brother. The icy voice is not reflected in his expression, still heartbroken. When he is about to leave the room, he turns a small bow to him. Now, Rhysand is a High Lord.
Tumblr media
"NO!", Azriel's screams wake Cassian. His brother did not scream, ever. Not even when he had nightmares, not even when he was being tortured did he ever scream.
He can do nothing but grab the dagger hidden under the mattress and run to his room. What he certainly did not expect was to see his brother kneeling, sobs wracking his entire body, hands clutching his chest at heart level. When he heard his brother enter the room and looked up, Azriel's eyes are of pure pain.
"Azriel... what's going on?" He approaches him and kneels before him, the dagger forgotten on the ground at the doorframe, two strong hands rest on his shoulders to give him support.
Azriel rises hastily, trembling knees not offering him too much stability causing him to stagger slightly. Cassian is worried-he has never seen his brother in such a condition.
"Selaene..." he manages to gasp and a pain expands in the warrior's chest. "Azriel. Speak, Selaene what? What has happened?"
"The bond. I don't... I can't hear it anymore, Cassian. It's empty." His brother's cracked voice shatters him.
"I-I thought you wanted to accept the bond."
"No, Cassian. I don't..." Azriel takes a short pause, a long breath, and Cassian has never been more agitated. If he is not suffering because he was rejected, what else could have happened that is so terrible? "I don't feel her anymore. She is..." But Azriel cannot finish the sentence. He can't. The sobbing that beats him is so violent that the warrior has to hold him up as the ShadowSinger cries on his shoulder. He himself cannot stop the tears. The situation is so surreal.
"Azriel." His voice is broken, like when he was a baby is crying in Rhysand's mother's arms. "I swear if this is a joke-"
" Fucking hell, Cassian. It's not a fucking joke." His brother's voice is so harsh that he feels guilty for even thinking it.
"I have to go." He suddenly breaks away from the comforting grip.
"Azriel, brother..."
But before he can even finish the sentence, Azriel disappears into his shadows.
Tumblr media
463 years later
"I have never entered your room, Azriel. It is an honor." Feyre's voice and her little comment make Azriel smile slightly.
"I like to ... keep my own space." The Fae smiles at her words, and the Illyrian notices the female's gaze wandering around the room. Too much for his liking.
Her eyes land on a romantic book, one that Nesta has recommended to him and he is far too kind to tell her he will never read. The Fae picks it up and lifts it to show him, a feline smile breaks across her bright face. "Uh-huh. I didn't know the much-feared Spymaster read such impurities!"
An amused snort escapes his throat, but he doesn't respond further. He lets Feyre take a closer look at the room and comment on every single thing in it-not that he has many, fortunately. This is exactly why he does not like it when people enter his room.
As the young Fae continues to browse through his things, he heads to the real reason he brought Feyre to his room. The damned paperwork that his High lord desperately need for some reason.
"Fey. You're supposed to be looking for the reports, not the dirty books your sister lends me."
"Ah! But look at you going all defensive," she chuckles, and Azriel struggles to hide the smirk that lights up his face, "there's nothing wrong with wanting to read a little pepper every now and then." She laughs again after seeing the Shadowsinger roll his eyes.
"Oh...," Azriel pays no mind to whatever caught the Fae's attention, probably another piece of junk. "Az?"
"Yes?"
"Who-who is it?"
The Illyrian warrior's entire body stiffens at such words, somehow knowing full well what, who he is referring to.
"She is... it's gorgeous." The tone suggests to him that she is speaking more to herself than to him. But Selaene is still an open wound for him, and he is not ready to talk about it, and perhaps never will be.
After her death he simply ignored the pain, doing nothing about it. Rhysand became High Lord and he was made Spymaster, he begged his brother to send him on so many missions that he forgot about Selaene. Of course, he did not succeed. But at least he was busy and time made things better. But every time she is mentioned ... he still feels that unbearable emptiness in his chest, and it would hurt less if his heart was ripped out of his chest alive.
"Is that Rhys's sister?" Feyre's question brings him back to reality. He stares at her for a long time, and the Fae cannot help but notice the pain that flashes in his eyes, pain so fiery and burning. His eyes blur, as if inside his head he is replaying memories. When he does not respond, she speaks again.
"Rhys told me about her. But I didn't know you were related."
Azriel still does not answer, and Feyre realizes that he will probably never answer. She feels like a bad person for asking such intrusive questions, and feels the need to make up for it.
"I'm sorry, Az. I didn't mean to bring back bad memories."
Azriel wanted to yell at her, to get out, to not speak about her.
He wanted to scream that she was not a bad memory, but he could not. It had been decades since anyone had mentioned Selaene.
It had been decades since anyone had mentioned Selaene. Sure, above his bed there is a painting of her that he stares at every morning as soon as he wakes up and every night before he goes to sleep. Gods, there are days when he sits on his desk and stares at her for hours, unable to look away. But this is different. Someone talking about his dead mate in front of him is different. He is not ready to voice his thoughts, and perhaps never will be.
"Maybe ... maybe I should go. Don't... forget about the papers, I'm sure Rhysand doesn't need them that much."
Azriel watches her leave her room, and hates the look he receives. Compassion. The look he gets from his brothers whenever they see him alone at a ball, or the look he gets whenever a bond is mentioned.
He stares again at the painting of his beloved, and lets the memories he has of her calm his mind and the shadows obscure his vision, as if to put a wall between him and reality.
He wonders when was the last time he heard her voice, her laugh, her name on his lips. And when he tries to remember the sound of it, he can't. He has forgotten Selaene's laughter.
After almost a century of it not happening, Azriel lets tears flow freely down his face and sobs fill the room, careless of who might hear. The shadows themselves, who loved his female as much as he did, cry and call her name, as if at any moment, she might return. As if she simply went out on an errand.
He wonders how his brothers would look at him now, weeping for a lover lost almost five centuries ago. Who knows how much compassion he would find in their looks.

I might write a fic about Rhys' sister living just so Eris has a bsf and Nesta marries sm one that treats her like the queen she is.
Just imagine Rhys' sister calling out every one of ic's bs during acosf events. imagine Nesta choosing her over cassian's useless ass.
imagine her and eris just being bsf during that winter ball scene in acosf and shitting on Keri's awful fashion sense among other things.
imagine Nesta and Azriel joining in.
Azris shameless flirting
And she and Nesta can be the best women at azris' wedding.

I Look In People's Windows
✧・゚: *✧・゚:* ✧・゚: *✧・゚:* ✧・゚: *✧・゚:* ✧・゚: *✧・゚:* ✧・゚: *
Pairing(s): Eris x reader
Warnings: angst
Summary: It's been years... years since the breakup. He is no longer yours. He never really was, always keeping you at a distance. But, there were some good times. Maybe that's why you keep hoping to see him again, anywhere. Just one more time.
SR’s Note: Cannot get this song out of my head, and yes I am doing an Eris story! I love writing him. This one ends happy, just trust.
✧・゚: *✧・゚:* ✧・゚: *✧・゚:* ✧・゚: *✧・゚:* ✧・゚: *✧・゚:* ✧・゚: *
The day he left was the day you'd changed.
He'd tried to reason with you, to make you see why you couldn't be together anymore; it was the day his father killed his younger brother's lover.
Perhaps, he changed on that day too.
"You have to go," he'd said. "You have to get out of here. Now." You remembered it like it was yesterday; there was no option for questioning or changing his mind this time. You'd already started crying, before the argument began.
"I don't care, Eris! I love you, I can't just leave..." You could still feel the way your heart broke, split right in two. Eris had been frenzied, frantically gathering your things and packing them in a backpack.
"And I love you! Don't you see that? I mean, really -- don't you get it?" He threw the backpack on the bed, and you'd watched from the doorway, water dripping from your chin and onto the expensive oak flooring.
"I know you're afraid, but-" He charged over to you, taking your wrists in his hands.
"I am not afraid. Of nothing. Of no one." He said, so close you could feel his breath on your nose. You narrowed your watery eyes at him.
"You are." Is all you said. He dropped your hands, returning to the bed and snatching up the backpack. His back had still been turned to you when he said:
"I won't have you end up dead like Jesminda." Another silent sob racked your body, and you tried hard to keep from shaking.
"You know I'd love you to the ends of Prythian, Y/N." He said, voice quieter now as he approached you and slipped your arms into the staps of the pack. "I would do anything for you." A tear slipped past his eyeline. "Hell, I would jump into the cauldron for you-"
"I don't need anyone jumping into anything," you say, brushing your thumb over his tear-stained cheek. "I just need you. Me. I don't want to not know you anymore." The last part came out shakily. "Does it feel alright to not know me?"
His hands pulled your waist close, and he wrapped his arms around you one more time. You remembered feeling his shoulders shaking, your tears staining his mahogony jacket as you buried your face in his chest. You inhaled deep, smelling his campfire and cinnamon scent one more time...
And now here you were, still addicted to the "if only"s. If only he'd let you stay. If only he'd run with you. If only he was still yours...
You hadn't realized you'd wandered out of your neighborhood, and into the town square. The sky was gray and dull; reflecting how you'd felt inside. When was the last time you'd truly seen the sunshine?
On the last day you'd spent with your love.
Meandering through the Autumn court streets was usually peaceful, not many people being out this time of year as the air had turned a bit chilly. You would constantly check inside shops, the big windows highlighting the guests inside. You don't know what you'd do if you saw him now; its been years since he told you to leave. You'd listened, and stayed away; but that didn't help your mind playing tricks on you. Thinking you'd seen him boarding a train; seeing him at the tables of Christmas parties you couldn't bring yourself to attend.
You were pulled from your thoughts when you heard the conversations around you, growing more and more as you'd ventured further into the square.
"I heard his kid did it."
"I can't believe the High Lord is actually dead."
"I was told that the oldest son slayed him, out of pure hatred."
What were they talking about? Certainly if they were discussing Lord Beron, you would have heard the news by now. If what they were saying was true and he was really dead, that would mean...
"Ahh, thank you Mariella. You always know exactly why I've come!"
Your body freezes, the whisper of sound drifting from an open doorway to a bakery on your left. You'd recognize that honey-dripped voice anywhere.
You break into a sprint, right for the bakery.
You knew you weren't decieving yourself this time.
Peering in through the storefront, you catch sight of his radiant curls, piled on his head. His genuine smile exposes his perfect canines; a smile you hadn't seen in so long. One you'd never thought you'd see again. He looked almost the exact same, just how you remembered him from all those years ago.
Your breath fogged up the glass, and you wiped it with your sleeve. The small squeak that came from the action caused Eris and the cashier to both peer out at you, and you felt an electricity bolt shoot through you when your eyes met his one more time.
He murnured something quickly to the woman, and raced out of the store. When he cleared the entry way, he stared at you in silence for a few beats, utter shock on his face like he was seeing you for the first time all over again. He took one small step towards you, and you couldn't wait any longer. You ran to him and threw your arms around his neck, his wrapping around your waist and twirling you around. When he finally set you down, you pulled back and met those whiskey orbs, solely focused on you. You didn't care who was staring. You didn't care what people said. You only cared about the male in front of you.
"Eris, what... what happened?" You asked, voice breaking as you tried to contain the happy tears running down your face. He only smiled back at you longingly, taking one hand in yours and placing the other in your hair, finally feeling your wispy tendrils he missed so much.
"I feel as though I've waited forever for this," he admits, pulling you in closer. When his lips meet yours, the sweet apple taste is back. One you'd missed for so long. He continues kissing you for a few moments, relishing in the fact that you were finally back in his arms.
"And," he says, pulling away and resting his forehead on yours. "I'm not afraid anymore."

Starstruck | Eris x Rhysand's Sister
Tumblr media
series masterlist | summary: Eris finds out the truth of your powers and strikes a bargain with you.
word count: 3.9K
warnings: mentions of blood (from a nose bleed), vague mention of child abuse (there's a flashback of kid Eris, where he has a bruise on his cheek from Beron)
a/n: This takes place right after the events of Just A Girl but in Eris's POV.
Tumblr media
The ballroom falls into a stunned silence upon your dramatic exit, the heavy doors slamming shut behind you. Eris pauses, savoring the tension that now crackles in the air. His sharp eyes scan the room, settling on the gathered High Lords and Rhysand.
The firstborn to the Night Court’s lips are pressed tightly together but the occasional shake of his shoulders betrays him. It appears that High Lord Thesan shares the same sentiment, eyes sparkling with poorly concealed amusement. Eris’s gaze then finally lands on his father’s.
High Lord Beron’s face is flushed, his jaw tense in the heat of discussion with your father. His hands gesture wildly, each movement betraying his agitation and High Lord Orion surprisingly just takes it. There’s no apprehension on his face and no mouthing of apologetic words. In fact, High Lord Orion keeps his gaze on Beron but motions for the orchestra to continue playing, bringing life back into the ballroom. Eris’s mouth twitches as he fights to suppress his laughter, wishing his mother had been here to witness it too.
His father had it coming but never would Eris have thought it’d come from you.
He shifts his weight, the rich fabric of his attire whispering against the polished moonstone wall. He lets out a slow, measured breath and then, he counts to sixty. He casts one more glance at his father, before turning away, the ghost of a chuckle finally escaping his lips. He slips out the double doors with an unhurried grace, despite the sudden urge to see you.
Ever since he met you, Eris has been endlessly curious about you. His eyes found you at every event, attention always drawn to you. You were the first daughter to be born to a High Lord and given your older brother’s reputation, it left many–Eris, himself included–what role you would take on.
Would you carry on as emissary? Would you marry for power? Or would you fight for the title of Night Court heir as the sons of Spring and Autumn do? And if so, with what power? At least that question was answered tonight.
Words were seldom spoken amongst one another but Eris had meant to change that tonight. However, it seemed that every year, the demand for your attention only grew higher. Not only were you proving yourself to be a fae capable of great power and responsibility but also of remarkable beauty.
One of Spring’s sons–Heathen, or whatever his name was, Eris couldn’t bring himself to care–was your latest victim. He kept you occupied most of the night and despite your apparent disinterest, Eris found your interactions far too entertaining to save you from it.
**
Eris has frequented the Court of Nightmares but the Moonstone Palace? Not so much. It’s a beautiful maze of opalescent luster with long corridors. Sheer amethysts curtains flutter from the open windows and as he pauses, he picks up on a subtle jasmine scent. He follows it, allowing it to lead him to you.
He finds you in what appears to be a moon garden, surrounded by white peonies and cosmos. A stone arch rests in the middle, where a cascade of jasmine blooms alongside the weathered crevices. The flowers gleam faintly, reminiscent of the tiny stars scattered across the night sky above. You’re leant against the arch, head tilted upwards,  eyes closed and wings slightly curled in.
The moonlight kisses your skin, making you appear as delicate and radiant as the flowers that surround you.  You are like a sweet dream in a Court of Nightmares. Eris takes a step forward, his breath catching at the sight of you. He hesitates, noticing the furrow of your brows. Could you sense him?
But then, he sees something dark trickle down your nose.
Your eyes flutter open, a curse slipping from your lips as you instinctively pinch the bridge of your nose and lean forward. Eris is quick to act as he pulls a handkerchief from the inner pocket of his suit. The fabric is soft and embroidered with his initials in red thread—a detail you fail to notice in your distress.
Without hesitation, you take the handkerchief, pressing it to your nose to staunch the bleeding. “I’m in no mood to deal with the consequences of my actions right now. Save your lecture for tomorrow,” you groan out, your voice tinged with frustration and fatigue.
“Too bad,” Eris tuts. He rejoices in the reaction his voice stirs from you, watching as your body tenses, goosebumps rising on the exposed skin of your arms. “I had an entire speech planned.”
Eris watches with bated breath as you slowly lift your gaze. Your glare is instant and you're shoving the bloodied handkerchief at his chest, not caring if it stains his shirt.
“A thank you would suffice,” Eris says, biting back his amusement, letting the handkerchief fall to the ground. You don’t say anything, your eyes scanning his face in a wary manner.
“That stunt you pulled back there…,” Eris trails off, tilting his head towards the direction of the ballroom. He then gestures to your nose.  “Pretty reckless, if you ask me.”
You narrow your eyes, feeling the heat of his gaze and challenge in his words. “Did your father send you here to leave me a message? Pretty embarrassing not to confront me himself, if you ask me,” you finally bite back.
The gravel crunches softly under your heels as you turn away, desperate to put some distance between you both. Eris’s expression shifts, a flicker of determination crossing his face. He refuses to let you go so easily so he mirrors you, taking a step forward for every step you take away from him.
 “Where are you going? To go retrieve those bastard watch dogs of yours? Don’t tell me you’re scared of me.”
You stop, your wings slightly flaring out behind you. His words strike a chord within you. Just as he expected them to. His gaze lingers on your wings longer than they should. He’s insulted those barbarian so called “brothers” of yours multiple instances for those same exact membranous appendages but on you…on you…he rather not finish that thought for he fears what other emotions they may bring forth.
Eris snaps out of his trance as you turn to face him. He finds himself the recipient of the same seething expression you gifted his father earlier in the ballroom. He should be scared. He can feel the great extent of your power coursing through your veins. How had he not sensed it before?
 Darkness begins to seep out from the velvet expanse of your wings as if your body can no longer contain the strong force itself. There’s a primal instinct warning him of danger, to run. Yet, his feet remain rooted to the ground, even as you walk back to him.
The garden seems to hold its breath, the night creatures lurking among the bushes and trees pausing their song to listen in. Their anticipation seeps into him too as he awaits your move. The skirt of your ballgown brushes against his shoes as you lean in and he’s suddenly overwhelmed with your scent.
 “What do you want?”
“To congratulate you,” Eris responds smoothly, his voice as casual as if he were discussing the weather, despite the flutter of his heart. He can only hope you don’t pick up on it. He feigns a nonchalant shrug, echoing the same mannerisms you displayed earlier. With deliberate steps, he crosses the space between you and you take another step back until the stone arch presses against your back.
Reaching over your side, Eris plucks a delicate white peony from the garden. The soft petals tremble in his grasp as he offers it to you, his hand extended in a gesture that should be innocuous, yet somehow feels laden with hidden meaning.
But you don’t accept the flower.
So Eris moves closer, his fingers deftly tucking the small flower behind your ear. The gentle touch startles you, your breath hitching. He leans in toward your ear, his breath warm against your skin. The sensation sends a ripple through your wings and the sight stirring something deep inside him.
“Well done, my lady,” he whispers and he can hear the way your pulse quickens. The fire in his veins burns brighter, the heat of his presence becoming suffocating in its intensity. “For your role in establishing peace between the Spring Court and the rest of Prythian. Quite astonishing that High Lord Caldwell agreed to those unfair conditions so easily.”
The tension grows thicker and hotter, a silent battle of wills simmering between you. You can sense the danger in his proximity, the underlying threat in his words. And yet, despite the warning bells that should be ringing in your mind at his display of power, there's a part of you inexplicably drawn to the danger he brings.
Eris should’ve known better, finding his power being undermined. You’ve been trained to dance with danger and the unexpected all your life. The dark tendrils that hid within your wings fly out like leaves fluttering in the wind, teasing him with a chilling caress.
“What can I say? I’m pretty convincing.”
Your voice is surprisingly steady and Eris does not miss the retaliation for his threat in your tone. He lets out a thoughtful hum before pulling back. Amber eyes study your face carefully, catching the way your lips curl into a coy smile.
 “Or a master of emotional manipulation…”
“Me?” You say with a small laugh, pointing at yourself for added emphasis. “I’m just a girl.”
Eris raises a brow at you. His body straightens, hands crossing behind his back as he towers over your smaller frame. You raise an eyebrow back in challenge, not fazed at all.
“I doubt anyone will see you as just a girl after tonight,” Eris says, mocking your tone. “What would the High Lords think of you once they learn that the emissary of the Night Court is an empath? Surely, you know my father wouldn’t take that well…Nor would the Spring Court as they are among your victims.”
“Careful, Eris,” you say, voice smooth and rich. It’s the first time you’ve said his name and he can’t help but fall captive to it, allowing it to wrap around him with an enchanting warmth. It’s short lived as a cool caress teases at his throat. Your darkness.
“It seems like you’re accusing me of something.”
You were no stranger to dancing with danger but Eris was no stranger to dancing with fire.
“Perhaps, I am.”
“Perhaps, you are confused.”
The dark tendrils lingering around his throat press harshly and his jaw tenses in response. Your gaze hardens, defiance flickering in the depths of your eyes and Eris feels his own emotions heighten. There's a thrill in the air, electric and charged. It tickles at his senses, his visions and thoughts threatening to become a blur.
 Ah, there she is, he thinks as he pushes against the wave. Eris's lips curl into a smug smile as a flash of shock crosses your features. Fleeting but unmistakable. Nonetheless he savors the moment, relishing the sight of your carefully crafted facade slipping.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” you continue, despite the tumult of emotions swirling beneath the surface.
The dark tendrils at his throat disappear into the shadows and Eris lets out an exhale, disguising it as a scoff. His hand reaches out, lifting your chin up to meet his gaze and you hold it.
“You can’t fool me, pretty girl.”
Your gaze softens, if only for a moment, and Eris takes advantage of it. “Did you think I’d forget?”
Realization dawns on you, spreading across your face as you remember the first time you met Eris. That was years ago. You were both children and you’re quick to push it away, not wanting to let the innocence of the memory distract you as he wants it to.
“You’re right,” you tell him. “I can’t fool you but I can make you feel pain.”
Your hand grips his wrist, yanking his hand away from your face. Your gaze darkens once more, gaining your resolve back. You underestimated him and Eris recognizes he needs to act quick. You won’t make the same mistake again.
“Pain so heavy, it’s suffocating,” you say and Eris struggles to push against the pressure threatening to invade his senses. He takes a step back.
Eris suppresses his wince, masking the growing pain. Something that he's learned to do, given his history with pain. His amber eyes sweep over you from head to toe, tracing every curve and contour with an intensity that he knows leaves a burning sensation in their wake by the way your eyebrows furrow.
 Finally, his eyes meet yours once more. “Don’t tempt me with a good time.”
Your carefully donned mask finally falls and your power releases its heavy hold on him. He feels like he can breathe again.
“What do you want?” you demand once more.
There’s apprehension in your tone and he doesn’t need your empath abilities to know the effect he had on you. Your emotions are written all over your face. it’s strange, the way it sends warmth to swell in his chest.
“Money? Land in the Court of Nightmares?”
“My silence is going to cost you a lot more than that,” Eris laughs with a smirk.
“My hand in marriage?” You continue, the words tumbling from your lips with a bitter taste. The thought of binding yourself to him, of sacrificing your freedom for the sake of secrecy, fills you with a sense of dread.
His smirk transforms into something more sinister, more fox-like. It sends a shiver racing down your spine and you begin to fear his answer.
“How about a bargain? I know your court is quite fond of those.”
You raise a brow in question, a silent invitation for him to voice his desires. To lay his cards on the table and reveal the true extent of his demands. Eris’s amusement is palpable. He can feel the desperation radiating off of you and he revels in it. Such a powerful fae like yourself is at his mercy.
“My silence in exchange for a favor,” he finally says.
“What kind of favor?”
“Well, if I told you, it would ruin the fun,” he replies, voice dripping with mischief.
“You and I have different definitions of fun,” you retort, a cold edge creeping into your tone.
“Suit yourself then. I should return to my father, fill him in.” Eris says and he begins to walk away. One..two.., he counts silently in his head.
“Wait!” you call out, your hand reaching out to grasp his, fingers closing around him with a desperate urgency. Three.
“As long as you help keep my secrets, I will owe you a favor.”
“As long as I keep my mouth shut about your empath abilities, you will owe me a favor,” Eris specifies, catching on to you easily. He resists the urge to turn around to face you.
With a deep exhale, you utter a single word: “Deal.”
A warmth begins to spread from the point where your hands meet, a sensation that starts as a gentle tingling before intensifying into a searing heat. Eris feels the strength of the bargain as it etches itself onto his skin.
Turning back to face you, Eris allows his gaze to fall down to the wrist you still hold. He lets you pull back the cuff of his sleeve along with his coat up to his elbow. A delicate vine winds its way across his skin, adorned with leaves and blossoms that mirror the jasmines of the night court.
A hiss escapes you. It has Eris lifting his gaze. He catches the fleeting moment of vulnerability that flashes across your features as your hand instinctively flies to the back of your neck. He doesn’t have to ask to know that the same design is etched onto the back of your neck.
Yet, he’s filled with the desire to see it. To brush your hair aside, to touch the softness of your skin as he traces the contour of the tattoo with his fingertips.
Instead, he watches as your eyes momentarily glaze over, your mind seeming to drift elsewhere before snapping back to the present with a blink. You release his wrist from your grip and take a step back, as if suddenly aware of the dangerous proximity between you two.
“I have to go.”
You bend down to pick up the bloody handkerchief that he had already forgotten about, clenching it tightly into your fist. And then, you’re walking away from him. He wonders if you sense his gaze lingering on your wings, because in the blink of an eye, they vanish.
“What a shame,” Eris calls out after you. “The fun was just about to get started!”
You pause. Turning your head, Eris catches a glimpse of a cynical smile and he thinks you may just come back to him. But then, you’re lifting one of your hands to flick him off and he can't help but smile.
A twinkle dances in your eyes, shimmering like the stars above. The very same one that left him starstruck all those years ago…
**
years ago...
Eris sits underneath an oak tree, basking in the sunlight that filters through the interwoven leaves of fiery oranges and deep reds. He cradles a small bundle of fur to his chest, gently stroking the velvety length of its ears with his thumb. He uses his free hand to bring a bottle of milk to the tiny pup, a furrow creasing his brow as he observes the animal’s reluctance to feed.
“You need to eat,” he murmurs softly in concern and then even more quietly, he says, “you need to live.”
The pup lets out a small whimper in response, its frail and thin body sagging against him. Tears begin to burn Eris’s eyes, blurring his vision. Eris had stumbled upon the pup a couple of days ago when riding in the forests of Autumn alongside his father. He had followed the cries and whimpers, despite his father telling him not to. The bloodhound pup was left alone to die, leaving Eris to conclude that it must’ve been the runt of its litter. He knew the small animal was sick the moment he picked him up, closer to death than life itself.
Yet, he still begged his father to keep it as he was filled with the sudden urge to protect it. “Fine,” his father had agreed with a disgruntled huff. “Perhaps, it is time you learn what the world does to such weak beings.”
But Eris was determined.
He spent hours in the library with the sick pup cradled in his arms, searching for remedies to help. Nothing seemed to be working but he refused to allow his determination to wave. He wanted to–no, he needed to prove his father wrong.
To prove that something weak can become strong.
“Your pup is sad. She misses her mother.”
Eris startles at the voice. He had been so lost in his thought he hadn’t noticed that someone approached him. He lifts his gaze, blinking at the bright sun until his vision clears. There’s a young girl standing in front of him. She looks to be around his age.
She steps forward, blocking the glare of the sun from his view and takes a closer look at his pup. Eris merely stares at her. He recognizes her as the girl who arrived at the forest house, clinging onto High Lord Orion’s leg. He had been in this same exact spot when she arrived earlier, the scene still painted very vividly in his mind. Because the way she had looked up at her father with such adoration and to have it reflected back as he looked down at her brought a dull ache to his chest.
“And you need a salve for that nasty bruise of yours,” the girl adds.
Eris’s hand instinctively reaches up to his cheek and winces. The bruise is still fresh. A gift from his father. “I don’t need anything. I’m fine,” he replies with a glare.
“You’re in pain but okay,” the girl merely shrugs. She then settles herself across from him and Eris’s scowl deepens.
“What are you doing?”
“My name is y/n,” she tells him.
“I didn’t ask.”
The girl remains unfazed by his grumpy demeanor. In fact, she seems to make herself even more comfortable, the autumn leaves crunching as she crosses her legs.  “May I?” She asks, gesturing toward the pup.
Eris reluctantly hands the small creature toward her and he doesn’t know why but he feels himself relax, tense shoulders drooping. He watches as the pup nestles its nose comfortably into her neck, letting out a soft whine. The girl giggles and Eris’s eyes widen.
“How did you–”
“Does she have a name?” She interrupts him.
“No,” Eris frowns, regret settling in. He had been too focused on keeping her alive to even consider a name.
The girl reaches out for the bottle in his hand, shifting the pup in her arms to feed her. Once again, the pup refuses to feed. A thoughtful look crosses over the girl’s face. “I think she’s allergic to the milk you’re feeding her,” she says as she hands the pup back to Eris.
Eris glances down at the bloodhound, considering the girl’s words. Perhaps, he should try feeding her goat’s milk instead. His thumb absentmindedly brushes along the pup’s head, stroking over the top of the ear.
“She likes when you do that,” the girl speaks again.
“What are you? An animal whisperer?” Eris teases but there’s an underlying seriousness to his tone.
“Something like that.”
“y/n!”
The girl’s head turns at the sound of her name being called. It’s her father. She turns back to Eris. “I have to go,” she says as she stands up, dusting off the skirt of her dress. “You should give her a name, though. I think it'd make her happy.”
Eris finds himself nodding, mind already racing with ideas on what to name the small pup in his arms. He puts those thoughts on a hold as he realizes there’s something he should do. His mother did teach him some manners, after all.
“y/n!" He calls after the girl.
She stops, turning to look back at him. Her brows furrow in question.
“Thank you,” Eris finally says.
A smile graces the girl’s lips. It lights up her entire face, reaching her eyes and Eris swears he sees a twinkle dancing within the depth of them. It leaves him momentarily dazzled. How can a simple smile be so bright?
“You're welcome.”
And as Eris watches you run back to your father, a name for the pup comes to mind.

a/n: any guesses as to what Eris named his first hound? Also, I didn't know what type of hound Eris has in canon so I just went with a bloodhound since they're good at scenting. Tthe flicking off scene was 100% taken from this scene of Maxton Hall because I loved it too much. You can just tell that was the moment James started to fall for Ruby, if he wasn't already.

Part 11 || Part 13(upcoming)
»»————- ♔ ————-««
     Estella sometimes visited Eris late at night when she couldn't sleep. She only did this when she could sense his thoughts buzzing around in his restless head, and she knew he was also awake. She didn't disrupt him when he was sleeping peacefully, though that was rare.
     She would hide her dagger beneath her skirts, throw a shawl over her shoulders, and pinch her cheeks to add color before leaving. She didn't want him to see her looking entirely exhausted.
     The stroll down the corridors was anything but peaceful, especially at night. But she couldn't winnow without her shadows, and flying would only bring attention to herself.
     But she had a weapon, and she was ready to strike. She never did see that male again, the one she stabbed in the face. She still wasn't sure why she panicked so much when she had spent centuries doing the same thing.
     Maybe it was the implication of what he had wanted to do to her, whereas the males she had killed in the past had been assigned to her. They were not after her directly, not until she began targeting them.
     But Eris had been a comfort. He had held her all night, which had surprised them both, it seemed. Since then, he had become softer with her. She found that she didn't mind that.
     Estella liked seeing his softer side. She felt special like she was the only one that got to see him that way. Then, she would scold herself for feeling like that. He was a Vanserra, for Cauldron's sake. She wasn't allowed to feel that way.
"Estella," the voice said, causing her to freeze. Her eyes jumped from the tile in front of her to the source of the sound.
     Rhys stood with his brows furrowed, taking her in. He was looking worse every time she saw him. His skin had gone pale, his face gaunt, and he'd lost a significant amount of weight and muscle. His violet eyes had lost the life they used to have in them.
"What are you doing down here?" he asked her, his voice quieter than usual.
"I couldn't sleep," Estella said honestly. "I needed to go for a walk; get my mind off things."
"In this part of the Mountain? At this time of night?" he doubted, raising a brow. She shrugged, doing everything she could not to crumble under his assessing gaze.
"It's not as cold out here as it is in my bedroom," she said quietly, staring at the floor.
"You have a fireplace," he reminded her.
     Her head snapped up, and she shot him a look, one that reminded him she would not touch a fireplace with a ten-foot pole. His gaze softened just slightly.
"Let's go back to your room," he decided. "I'll light the fire for you."
"Rhys, I'm fine," she insisted, glancing at the path she was taking to Eris's room.
"We're going back to your room, Stella," he repeated in a way that let her know he wasn't asking.
     She didn't argue; she just followed him as he took hold of her arm and led her the opposite way from where she was heading. She grumbled to herself, irritated at her brother's constant, overprotective antics.
     She felt a shiver go through her body when she returned to her bedroom. It was utterly freezing in her quarters, and she knew Amarantha did that purposefully.
     Estella sat on the bed, wrapping the shawl tighter around her shoulders. Rhys went to the fireplace, kneeling before it. She watched as he placed a few pieces of wood in it and lit the fire.
"Thank you," she said softly.
     He nodded, getting to his feet. He came over to her, ruffling her hair affectionately.
"I love you, little shadow," he said.
     Estella smiled softly, knowing it didn't reach her eyes. Rhys leaned down and kissed the top of her head, then left her alone, wrapped in her shawl and shivering.
     Even with the fire going, she couldn't sleep. The cold was bitter, and even though she was Illyrian, she was sensitive to it. She remembered being a little girl in that cell and how cold it was. She would curl up in her brother's arms, her entire body trembling, trying to stay warm. It was never any use. The rags they wore were always ripped, short-sleeved, and made of thin material.
"Are you still awake?" Estella asked Eris through the bond, hating that she was craving his comfort. It took a moment for his reply to come through, but it did.
"Yes. Where are you? I thought you were on your way."
     He sounded irritated, making her roll her eyes, but she answered anyway. "Rhys found me in the corridors, and he made me go back to my room."
"How old does he think you are?"
"I'll never be older than six to him. You'll have to come here."
"I wasn't planning on leaving my room tonight," he drawled.
"Too bad," Estella responded. "Get over here as soon as you can."
     Eris didn't argue with that, though his side of the bond went silent. She spent the next ten minutes wondering if he would show at all. She didn't want to beg, but she certainly wasn't above it.
     However, she found that there was no need for that when her door opened. Eris looked tired, and Estella didn't blame him. She knew he hadn't been sleeping lately. Neither of them had. It was hard in a place like the Mountain.
"It's freezing in here," he murmured as he closed the door behind him.
     He glanced at the flickering fire, waving his hand. The flames leaped higher and glowed brighter, making Estella flinch. "It's fine. It'll warm up the room faster."
"I want you to warm me up," Estella hinted, sitting up and letting her shawl drop from her shoulders. A smirk fell upon his features, one that made her want him even more.
     He stepped over to her bed in very few strides, crawling on top of the girl. She laid back down, smiling as he hovered over her, his hands on either side of her head.
     His lips met her jaw, peppering kisses, leaving her sighing softly beneath him. He trailed down her neck slowly, stopping in her most sensitive spots to suck just slightly, leaving her with marks she knew she would spend the next week concealing.
     His teeth closed around the strap of her dress, pulling it down from her shoulder to her arm. She helped him get the dress off her, but it wasn't much of a struggle.
     When she was bare beneath him, he sat up, fumbling with his belt as he pulled his cock out of his pants. It was rare that he fully undressed during sex or took his shirt off at all, but she never commented on it.
     He slid a hand down to her core first, rubbing tight circles on her clit with his thumb as he slipped two fingers inside of her. She groaned, biting her lip and squeezing her eyes shut.
"Ready for me so early?" he teased, commenting on the wetness he had found waiting for him. She nodded. "Such a desperate slut."
     Her core clenched at the words, and he pressed one more kiss to her neck before wrapping his arms around her shoulders and flipping her around so she was on top.
"Sit up and ride me," he instructed. "If you want it to bad, take it yourself.”
     Estella pushed herself up, hands braced on his chest, to a sitting position. She took his perfect cock in her hands, pumping it a few times, delighting in the way it twitched in her palm.
     He groaned as she lowered her cunt to him, very slowly sliding down onto his cock. She whimpered at the slight pain she always felt when he bottomed out.
     Estella began riding him, her pace slow at first so she could get used to the fullness—the pain. He grasped her hair in his hand, pulling it forcefully. She whined, staring at the ceiling as her head was forced back, their pace speeding up.
     His other hand came down hard on her ass, a smack sounding through the room. She cried out, more in pleasure than pain, her hand reaching down to rub her clit. He smacked her rear once again, and she knew there'd be marks in the morning.
“Harder, Eris," Estella moaned out, desperate amid her pleasure.
     His hips began jutting up to meet hers, and the smacks to her ass sped up, getting harsher each time.
"You like that, you filthy whore?" he snarled. She could only nod, tears welling in her eyes. "Use your words."
"Yes, I like that, Eris," Estella gasped out, voice breaking between moans.
     He let go of her hair, though a stinging sensation remained at her scalp. He gripped her breasts in his hands, squeezing and kneading them in a way that made her wild.
     Eris loved her breasts, which had been evident since their first time. He often took his time with them, teasing, pinching, and squeezing.
     Estella was getting close, but she needed something more, something she hadn't craved in centuries. She craned her head up, forcing herself to meet his eyes in her pleasure.
"Touch my wings," Estella gasped out.
"What?" he asked through his pants.
"My wings," she repeated, grabbing his wrist.
     She guided his hand directly to that perfect spot on her wing, demonstrating how to touch it.
"Rub small circles," she managed, her eyes squeezing shut at the sensation.
     He obeyed, rubbing circles on her wing, gentle at first.
"Harder."
     He took her command, his movements quickening as he pressed harder on the spot.
"Oh, Gods," Estella cried out, bouncing on his cock, throwing her head back. She hadn't ever felt pleasure so intense. "Please, may I cum?"
“Now?"
“Yes, now, please," she begged. "I can't hold it back."
“Cum, then," he allowed, and she thanked the Cauldron that he was feeling gracious today.
     Estella cried out, cumming harder than she ever had, her core clenching around his cock. The feeling sent him over the edge, and not long after, he released inside of the girl.
     She collapsed on top of him the moment she came down from her heavenly high, fingers clenching his shoulders as her body shuddered from the aftershocks. He was so warm.
"Your wings, huh?" he teased softly into her ear.
"It's an Illyrian thing," Estella explained through labored breaths.
"Why have you never told me that?" he wondered, quirking a brow. "I've never seen you cum like that before."
"I've only ever let one other male do that," Estella said, rolling off of him and settling under her blanket, still naked. "It's not something I usually allow."
     The first male she'd ever slept with, her first love, Marcus, had been the one to introduce this concept to her. But after he'd broken her heart, she didn't want any males doing it again. Eris, however, was different.
“What makes me so special?" Eris asked her as he tucked his cock back into his pants.
"I'm not sure," Estella answered honestly. "It just felt right at the moment."
"Can you cum from your wings alone?" he interrogated.
"No," she answered, shaking her head. "There needs to be another form of stimulation."
"Oh, I will have fun with this," he smirked.
     Estella flushed a deep red, almost regretting giving him this information. Almost.

A Dance of Ash and Steel: Previous

Elara’s breath caught in her throat, her pulse a roaring thing in her ears. There was a heavy weightlessness that lingered in her limbs at the realization.
No.
Cauldron, no!
How could she be so stupid?
Her hands flew to her neck as if she could scrub it away, as if it was just paint on her skin. As if touching it would confirm it was a mistake, an illusion. A temporary mark that was nothing but a joke. That the truth that lingered over her was false and a simple truck.
But the magic hummed beneath her fingertips, alive and binding. The familiar tingle of magic buzzing that would usually come from her siphons. The familiar company of the ancient magic now lingering on her skin.
Mor stepped forward, grabbing her wrist, her grip tight. Almost as if a warning, but Elara could tell it was more of a plea than anything. A plea to confirm that Elara had not been stupid enough to do this. To bind herself to someone like Eris.
“Tell me you didn’t.” Her brown eyes met Elara’s, mixed with a fury and desperation. Desperate for the truth. Holding onto the hope that I could be some sort of mistake.
Elara couldn’t answer. She could barely breathe. She went through every single interaction she had with Eris over the past week. Went over every single conversation. Her mind raced as she flipped through each day, trying to grasp when—how—
And then it hit her.
“Though I am curious. How, exactly, do you plan to keep your family from interfering? From that brute of a brother of yours, at least. I’m sure he will be protesting against the whole thing. Finding this female is important. I can’t risk having him or anyone else in our way. Or threatening my life,”
“I’ll handle it. All you just need to behave while you’re in Night Court territory.”
“You’re making demands now, Little Bird?”
“It’s not a demand, it’s—”
“A promise? How very generous of you.”
“If it keeps them from gutting you the second you step foot in my Court, then yes. I promise I’ll keep them off your back if you don’t give them a reason to kill you.”
“You promise, hmm?”
“I do.”
A promise. Not just words, but a promise. But it wasn’t just a promise she had made with him. No, she made something so much more dangerous.
A deal.
A bargain.
A bargain to keep him safe as long as he didn’t cause trouble. And since she was part of the Night Court? That bargain was inked on her skin as proof of such a promise. Which also meant that he too had some sort of mark as a reminder.
“I—” Elara swallowed, her throat suddenly dry, flickering to Mor. She ever felt this kind of panic before. Panic from such a big mistake that could cost her everything if it went wrong. “I didn’t mean to.”
Mor’s fingers flexed around her wrist, her voice dropping to something dangerous. “What do you mean you didn’t mean to?” Mor never used that tone before. Never with her. With Rhys? Yes. Cass? Of course. But Elara? Never. And it made her heart sink further into her chest.
Elara’s stomach twisted violently. The guilt of the realization quickly eating away at her conscious. “When I agreed to help him. When I told him I wouldn’t let anyone in our court hurt him as long as he didn’t do anything to deserve it—” Her breath shuddered out. “I must have…” She trailed off, staring at her reflection as the realization sank in like a stone.
She had unknowingly sealed a bargain with Eris Vanserra.
A sharp ringing filled her ears. How had she been so careless? She had spent her life keeping her emotions in check, swallowing down every reckless impulse, every wild, foolish mistake. And yet, with him, with that arrogant, smirking High Lord’s heir, she had bound herself without even realizing.
She could still hear his voice, that sharp amusement laced into his words when he’d looked at her and said, “She offered.”
Had he known? Had he felt it in the moment? That magic curling around them like an unseen tether, sinking deep into her bones, tying them together in a way she couldn’t yet comprehend? Had he been mocking her this whole time?
A shiver ran through her, something foreign and uneasy settling in her stomach. That sneaky, slimy, cunning fucking bastard.
Mor’s golden-brown eyes flickered with something close to fury, but beneath it, there was something worse—betrayal.
Eris had been the main character in the worst part of Mor’s life. The chip in the agreement with the Autumn Court and the Hewn City. She had been mutilated and left at the border bare. Elara never forgot it when Mor told her once she was old enough to know. And here she was. Having made a bargain with that very same male.
“Elara,” Mor breathed, her voice a mixture of exasperation and disbelief. She turned away, hands on her hips, pacing like she was trying to contain herself. As if she was holding back her anger, holding back from taking it out on her. “Rhys is going to lose his shit.” Her voice a deadly quiet.
Rhys. Azriel. Cassian.
Her stomach dropped.
They would never forgive her for this. Not only had she agreed to help Eris, but she had unknowingly bound herself to protecting him in some way. Protecting Eris, from her family.
And now there was magic—undeniable, binding magic—to prove it.
Her brothers would be furious. Cassian would rage, Azriel would retreat into a silence colder than steel, and Rhys… Rhys would look at her with that quiet disappointment, the one that had always cut her deeper than any reprimand.
A shudder wracked through her, slithering down her spine.
Mor ran a hand through her golden hair, her jaw tightening. “We’ll fix it,” she said firmly, like she was trying to will it into truth. “There has to be a way to undo it.” She turned quickly on her heel to face Elara. A new focused look in her eye. Delusion.
Delusion from the truth. Trying to deny what was so clearly marked on her skin until they both agreed that they completed their bargain and wished to end it. But until that was mutually agreed upon? It would remain there. And anyone that would believe otherwise is foolish.
Magic didn’t bend to the whim of anyone. No human. No God. No fae. No Cauldron. It was a force greater than anything else in any world.
Magic was its own master. They all knew it. But Mor seemed to ignore that simple fact.
Elara clenched her jaw. “You know it doesn’t work like that, Mor.”
Mor’s golden eyes burned with frustration, her hands curling into fists at her sides. “Bargains can be broken.”
Elara let out a short, humorless laugh. “Not this one. Not unless he agrees to end it.”
Mor’s lips pressed into a thin line, and Elara could see the denial in her expression, the way she was desperate to fight against the truth. But there was no fighting this. No breaking what had been sealed in magic older than the very Courts themselves. Not unless he agreed to it.
Magic did not care for regret.
“I cannot accept this, You cannot just accept this,” Mor snapped, stepping closer. “Eris—he trapped you into this. You didn’t choose it.”
“That doesn’t matter,” Elara bit back. “Magic doesn’t care how it happened. It only cares that it was done.”
Mor shook her head, pacing now, her boots clicking against the marble floor. “There has to be a way. A loophole. Something.”
Elara exhaled sharply. “There isn’t. The only way out of this is if he agrees to break it, and do you really think Eris Vanserra is going to do that?”
Mor didn’t answer. Because they both knew the truth.
Eris was too smart. Too calculating. He wouldn’t have made a bargain unless he was certain it would benefit him. He wouldn’t let her go without getting exactly what he wanted.
Elara’s stomach twisted, but she forced herself to keep her voice steady. “I’ll deal with it. I’ll handle it,”
Mor stopped pacing, staring at her. The very person who had grown more like a sister than anyone in this world. As close as two sisters could possibly get. It didn’t matter that the had different blood in their veins. They were sisters in every way it mattered.
“You shouldn’t have to, Elara.”
“Well, I do.” Elara met her gaze, unflinching. “And if you keep acting like this can be undone, you’re only going to make it harder for both of us. I. Will. Handle. It.”
Mor clenched her jaw, her entire body radiating frustration. Anger. Helplessness.
But there was nothing she could do.
Nothing either of them could do.
Then Mor straightened, her voice quieter but no less firm. “If he tries anything—anything—you tell me. I’ll fucking rip his throat out.”
Elara simply nodded.
Mor studied her for a long moment before sighing. “I need a drink.”
Elara let out a breath. “Get one for me, too.”
Mor nodded once before striding out of her room, her golden hair catching in the dim light as she fled the room.
And Elara—Elara just stared in the mirror at the mark on her back, up her neck. Mocking her while her skin burned with the weight of it.
She was going to fucking kill him.
~~~~~~
The next morning, Elara was already in the sky before the sun had fully risen, the wind sharp against her face as she pushed herself harder, faster. The early mist covering the city of Velaris and the surrounding mountains of her home.
Her wings ached, still stiff from how tense she’d been all night. Sleep had been impossible. Every time she closed her eyes, all she saw was the swirling ink of her bargain tattoo reflected back at her in the mirror.
Her bargain tattoo.
With Eris Vanserra.
The rage simmering in her blood was the only thing keeping her warm as she angled toward the Moonstone Palace.
She flew down quickly, landing on the open balcony. The smooth moonstone doors parted before her without a sound, allowing her entry into the palace’s hushed halls. The moment she crossed the threshold, the coolness of the marble floors seeped through her boots, a stark contrast to the ever-present warmth of her own power simmering beneath her skin. The deep green of her siphons flickering and flaring, matching rather well with her raging temper.
The corridors were vast and eerily silent, bathed in the last remnants of night’s shadows. The only sound was the faint echo of her steps against the polished floors, the occasional flicker of silver lights casting elongated shapes along the high ceilings.
The entire palace exuded quiet, untouchable elegance—walls of pale stone reflecting the soft violet of the lingering twilight, archways adorned with delicate carvings of stars and celestial creatures. Magic thrummed in the very air, woven into the foundation, into the way the palace seemed to breathe with the rhythm of the sky itself.
Her focus was locked on one thing.
The eastern wing—where Eris had been given his chambers, far removed from the main portion of the palace.
As she made her way through the halls, she could already feel him. That quiet, simmering heat that clung to the space, a presence she could never quite shake. The faint scent of embers and crisp autumn leaves filled her lungs, growing stronger with every step.
By the time she reached his door—a beautiful dark wooden door with soft swirls and floral carvings—she didn’t wait.
Didn’t knock.
Didn’t think.
She didn’t hesitate before slamming it open. The wood hit the wall with a satisfying crack.
Eris, who had been standing by the window, turned lazily, brow arching as he took her in. His auburn hair reflecting the early morning light as it crept through the open window. His smirk was already forming, like he had been expecting this. Like he had known she was coming.
“Good morning, little bird.”
Elara slammed the door shut behind her, the wall rattling with the amount of force behind it. And a part of Elara was surprised the door didn’t completely come off the hinges.
“We’re breaking it.”
Eris tilted his head, finally looking at her. The early morning sunrise casting a soft, warm glow over his sharp handsome, stupid features. “Breaking what?”
Elara stalked forward, “This. The bargain.” She said moving her hair out the way to show the very end of the tattoo as it wisped away into the darkness of her hair.
Eris leaned forward slightly, studying the mark with a faint, mocking hum. “Ah, yes. That.” He hummed and turned, picking up a tea cup that resided on the little side table by the window. He lifted it to his lips and took a slow sip. “No.”
Elara’s fingers itched to throw something at him. “No?” she echoed, voice dangerously low. Turning back towards him, her hazel eyes narrowing down at him.
Eris sighed, as if she was exhausting him, and set his glass down on the table beside him. “Why would I do that?”
Her blood was boiling, her nails digging into her palms. “Because you tricked me into this—”
Eris raised an unimpressed brow. “Did I? Now, now, little bird. If we’re going to be working together, the least we can do is be honest with ourselves,”
Elara clenched her jaw. Yes. He hadn’t said the words, hadn’t pushed her into making the bargain, but he had orchestrated it. Had given her no other choice.
“You don’t want this,” she snapped.
“Oh, but I do.” He spun on his heel in one fluid motion, and Elara immediately took a step back—not out of fear, but because he was suddenly too close, heat rolling off him in waves. “I went through quite a bit of trouble making sure you got out of that cell, Birdie. Risked quite a bit. Why would I throw all that effort away?”
Elara’s pulse pounded in her throat. “I didn’t ask for your help.”
Eris smiled, slow and razor-sharp. “You keep saying that as if you didn’t take my help. Are you trying to convince yourself otherwise?”
Her breath hitched. He had her there.
Eris tilted his head, his molten gaze flickering over her face, lingering on her lips for a fraction too long before meeting her eyes again. “The bargain stands.”
Elara felt her fury spike, like fire licking through her veins. “I will not be bound to you.”
Eris tsked, stepping even closer, until they were nearly chest to chest, until she could smell the faint trace of embers and cedarwood on his skin. “You already are, little bird.”
She hated that nickname. Hated the way his voice wrapped around it like silk.
Elara glared up at him. “I’ll find a way to break it myself.”
Eris smiled, but there was something dark beneath it, something unreadable. “You could try.” He lifted a hand, and before she could stop him, he traced a single finger along the mark on the back of her neck. A faint pulse of magic sparked at the touch, sending a shiver up her spine. Goosebumps rising on her skin.
Elara yanked back like he had burned her. “Bastard.”
Eris laughed softly, the sound maddeningly amused. “I do enjoy it when you call me that.”
Elara’s hands balled into fists. “You’re insufferable.” She wanted to do nothing more than wipe that smirk right off of his stupid arrogant face.
He winked. “And you’re predictable.”
Elara hated how her pulse quickened at that. Hated how he stood there, utterly unbothered while her entire world had shifted without her even realizing.
She took a breath, steadying herself. “You did this all on purpose,” she hissed at him, her temper rising more and more with each syllable.
Eris tilted his head. “You really think I would go into an agreement with your and your court without security? Without ensuring I was going to be safe? You truly believe I would go into the depths of your court, with the risk of your family backstabbing me? Absolutely not. So what was the best way for me to ensure my immunity? Well, I did safe your life, so walking you into a bargain was the best way to do that. And now we’re bound by it, little bird. That’s the price of your loyalty.”
Safe. Was that all he’d cared about? Protecting her from her family? His safety? Or was he using her just to get what he wanted—what he always wanted?
No. Of course that’s what was happening. Eris only ever thought of himself. And he had used her to ensure that he got what he wanted. To find this female. And safety. Immunity from the Night Court.
“Don’t you dare act like you weren’t playing me this whole time,” Elara growled, her wings flaring behind her, shaking with the anger that was building up in her chest. “You knew damn well I’d make that promise to keep my family safe. You used me.”
Eris’s eyes narrowed slightly, but the smile never wavered. “Oh, little bird, of course I did,” he said so smoothly, “besides you offered yourself freely. Though I only helped you keep your word. You made a promise, and I ensured you followed through.”
Her heart thundered in her chest, the bitter taste of betrayal swirling in her mouth. He had played her like a fool. And she had let him.
And now as long as Elara had her promise to keep Eris safe, he was untouchable.
And that alone was the final straw.
Eris barely had time to react before Elara’s fist connected with his jaw.
A satisfying crack echoed through the room, followed by a sharp grunt from the male as his head snapped to the side.
Elara shook out her hand, ignoring the sharp sting in her knuckles. It was absolutely w orth it.
Eris exhaled slowly, rolling his jaw as he turned back to face her. His golden eyes burned with something sharp—amusement, irritation, something else she couldn’t quite name. He ran his tongue over his teeth, testing for damage, before his smirk returned.
Eris grinned, as his hand came up to rub at his jaw. “Careful, Elara. Keep this up, and I might start thinking you like putting your hands on me.”
She bared her teeth. “Fuck you.”
Elara turned on her heel, storming toward the door and out of his room without another word. Without another glance behind her. She didn’t trust herself not to punch him again—and her hand already throbbed enough.
~~~~~
By the time she made it to the House of Wind, her knuckles were screaming. Usually she threw punches better than that. She knew how to properly punch before she could read or write. But this?
Eris had gotten the best of her and her temper. There was something about him that just completely got under her skin. And the fact that Eris knew that too? Irritated her to no end.
She stomped into the kitchen, yanking open the icebox and grabbing a handful of ice before pressing it against her bruised skin. A sharp hiss slipped through her teeth.
“Please tell me you didn’t punch a wall again,” came Cassian’s voice from the doorway.
Elara turned to see her brother leaning against the frame, arms crossed, wings tucked in. His hazel eyes flicked to her hand, then back to her face, already filled with exasperation.
Elara rolled her shoulders, her wings flexing with irritation as she looked back down to her hand, “No. I punched Eris.”
A beat of silence. Then, “ Finally. ”
Elara snorted as Cassian walked over, reaching for her wrist. She let him inspect her hand, even as she muttered, “I should’ve hit him harder.”
Cassian smirked. “I’m just impressed you didn’t break your damn fingers. You know, with all the bone he has in that thick skull of his,”
Her lips twitched. “It was a satisfying punch.”
“You’re going to have a bruise on your hand to show for it,” Cassian pointed out, his tone teasing but laced with concern. “You should have taken it easy.”
“I didn’t exactly plan for it to end that way,” Elara muttered, feeling her cheeks flush slightly. “But the urge to knock his smug face off was… too strong.”
Cassian laughed, a rich, booming sound that filled the quiet kitchen. “You’re just like me when I get frustrated with someone. But you don’t pull your punches like I do.”
Elara shot him a look, raising an eyebrow. “You’ve seen me fight. You know I don’t need to pull my punches. Sometimes, they land perfectly.”
“True,” Cassian said, his smirk softening into something more genuine. “But you know, little sister, there’s more to life than punching your way through problems. Though I admit, it’s a good start.” Elara finally let out a breath, leaning back against the counter, her shoulders sagging slightly. “I’m just pissed off that I’m stuck in this position in the first place. Had I been more careful I never would’ve gotten captured, and he never would’ve helped me, and we wouldn’t be fucking stuck here,” she huffed out in a breath.
Cassian’s expression softened, and he reached over, gently squeezing her shoulder in that quiet assurance that always helped, “I know. But that wasn’t your fault. None of it was. You were just doing what you had to, to survive. Any one of us would have done what you did. But you’ve got this. You always do. You’ve got us. You’ve got me,”
She met his gaze then, grateful for the comfort, even if she didn’t always show it. Illyrians weren’t necessarily the most warm and fuzzy group of Fae. And it wasn’t like either of them had particularly warm and fuzzy childhoods. But they both learned what it meant to be family, what it meant to be there for each other. They learned what each other needed and it just worked.
“Thanks, Cass.”
“No problem, little sister,” he replied, giving her a wink. “Just don’t make a habit of punching everyone in the face. I know we’re not exactly known for our subtlety, and it’s going to catch up with you one day.”
Elara snorted, the tension in her shoulders finally starting to ease, just a little bit. “I’ll try to remember that.”
It was the reassurance she needed coming from the simplest of gestures. For the first time in a long while, she allowed herself a moment of peace. With her brother by her side, all of them, and Mor, she could handle Eris.
And maybe with them, she’d figure out how to get herself out of this damn mess.
She just had to tell them about the bargain first.
Maybe that could wait.

A Court of Song and Desolation
In the low lamplight, I was free Heaven and hell were words to me When my time comes around Lay me gently in the cold, dark earth Work Song: Hozier
It's been a year since the final battle of Hybern, and Spring remains in ruin. Darkness fabrics the land as its High Lord rots forgotten. Lucien, being unable to stand the distance growing between him and the male he once called his closest friend, decides to bring him to the Human Lands. But soon, a new threat tied to Koschei begins to unearth itself, promising to uproot Prythian entirely, and it has set its eyes on Tamlin.
Elain Archeron is lost to her dreams and visions, reality blurring, time and space intertwining and unravelling. Memories of who she once was are twisted now, and a woman from her past has been haunting her. After meeting Mintheal and Emerald, two escapees from the Hewn City, she decides it's beyond time to step beyond the Night Court and take fate into her own hands.
The Death God Koschei is the last threat left to eliminate, no one has yet seen the strings that move him, and the puppet master has decided its their time to come out from behind the curtain.

She meets a woman with death in her eyes, and power in her veins, who makes Dahlia's blood boil while something clicks into place between them.

Perched on his throne, a glimmer of white catches his eyes and keeps them locked. A woman with cunning eyes and a thirst to piss him off has his head spinning in circles.

My Faery Lord
It was followed by a symphony. A string of notes that poured out one after the other. Turning to a river of music that flowed through the forest like waves of the ocean. Shocking through her body, filling some strange empty place deep in her soul.
A strange, full body sensation that had her sitting up, barely of her own awareness. Her head turned towards the source of the sound. Somewhere deeper into the forest.
Like something else was guiding her. Feyre moved towards it, the pain of her injury somehow lessened, as something more akin to bliss called to her from the source of the sudden song.
When Feyre strays from the group of sentries patrolling, she hurts herself after falling.
But not even an injury will stop her from finding the source of wistful music that floods her entire body when she hears it through the woods.
-Completed. 1 chapter. Includes Tamlin/Feyre Archeron
Bravery Is In Spite Of Fear
“Feyre.” He whispered, not a question, just acknowledgement. Still keeping her eyes tightly sealed, she felt a soft, tender kiss to the crown of her head.
Just like the loosened chains in her soul, her eyes gave away from the tension, against any will of her own. Like it all crumbled before him.
She held onto his hands. Grasping his fingers tightly, “Please. I can’t lose you again.”
“You never lost me.” He murmured, pressing another kiss, this one to her brow, “You have never lost me.”
When Tamlin is preparing to head to Hybern, Feyre holds him back. Unable to forget the day she last said goodbye and nearly lost him forever.
-Completed. 1 chapter. Includes Tamlin/Feyre Archeron
