Major Order Status: Day 20
Welcome back, viewers! Michael Adams here with a new major order handed down from High Command.
While the last message from Super Earth sent to the Super Destroyers yesterday implied that High Command intended to immediately pivot to the Automaton front, it now appears they need more time to thoroughly plan the next offensive against the bots. In the meantime, Super Earth's armed forces are intent on retaking four planets from the Terminids. According to the order, the Federation must regain control of Erata Prime, Acamar IV, Turing, and Phact Bay within four days. Once these planets are taken, the Terminids will once again be bottlenecked through the Umlaut sector.
Speaking of termicide, Super Earth seems set on reinventing it, putting the Ministry of Science on the path towards producing a new, more lethal formula. This is clearly a move by the bureaucrats and military leaders who know nothing of biology. No matter how effective termicide becomes, there will be no way for it to kill 100% of Terminids without being hazardous to many other lifeforms as well, especially humans! This is another supercolony of mutations waiting to happen, as the few bugs that remain will breed again and again until they become the majority!
Let's hope the Federation doesn't end up destroying another planet. In the meantime, give 'em Hell, Divers!

dont worry fellow patriot, i discovered that planets are hollow after i democratically held the attention of a charger vis a vis my own body!
…fill it with termicide
Will we ever spread democracy underground, use some drill-type veichles to attack large bot bases or bug nests?
There is a hesitancy to do this, as we don’t know what it might look like underneath the surface.

Instead of erataing nagas and serpents to snakes why not just make snake a batch that contains naga and serpent? That way they can become compatible with broader snake support without loosing their own uniqueness. The same question also goes for every other type erata you are currently doing. And also the hound dog thing.
Batching is not something we should do in huge volume. It's a tool we need to use sporadically. Also, we use Serpent to mean sea monster which is not a a Snake.

My opinion on the story of Murders of Karlov Manor
XXXX With spoilers! You have been warned! XXXX
I was initially very sceptical when Murders of Karlov Manor was announced, but I wanted to give the story behind it a chance. (After „Phyrexia“ and „All will be one“, my bar was set very low). My secret hope was that the schemes of Tezzeret (FANBOY!) and Lazav hinted in Greg Weisman's "War of the Spark" book would finally be flourish. Plunging Ravnica into chaos. More Tezzeret (finally with his Darksteel Body).
I also found the first story interesting, didn't quite know what to make of Proft and was curious to see what would happen next. In general, a murder-mystery story is always a fine art. Do you manage to write it in such a way that the attentive reader ends up with the same keys as the detective? Or - as in many films - are there 15 minutes of scenes that are essential to solving the mystery? However, with each successive story, my enthusiasm was dampened and my eyebrow rose higher and higher.
When the murderer was finally caught, it was there again. The feeling of the Phyrexia/All will be one story-arc. I find it a great pity that it seems as if the simplest solution is always taken. The characters are sometimes not written consistently and the end of the respective arc leaves you unsatisfied. Somehow you can feel in the stories that perhaps there is simply a lack of love for the protagonists and that's why they act OOC. The author did a good job and wrote a great story, but if the briefing says that Trostani, or rather Oba, is the vengeful retribution, there's nothing you can do. For me personally, the revenge motif is simply too heavy-handed in this context. It seems as if they had thought about who is least expected to be the murderer. Then they tried to knit a motif around it. It all seemed so incredibly contrived to me and didn't feel natural in the course of the story.
What bothered me in general, however, were (unfortunately) many other aspects of the story in Ravnica. For one thing: Niv-Mizzet? It might have been nice to see/hear the living guild pact on this topic. Proft himself was a very unlikeable character to me. There's nothing wrong with creating a super intelligent Sherlock Holmes variation, but then it needs wit or a flaw. Proft unfortunately had neither and in the scene where he explains her job to Erata, I found it rather ridiculously over the top. What Krenko was doing in this whole scene - with all the guild leaders, I still wonder. Yes, he's a VIP in Ravnica. But to integrate him into the story because of that?
Another big aspect that I find very unfortunate are the open storylines. Teysa is/was a double agent? Judith is planning her own coup? The Simic are experimenting with glisterin oil? All great ideas, but unfortunately they were either nipped in the bud or, in the case of Proft, not pursued any further. Who was the intruder in his mind palace? Emarkul? Jace? A new party?
But despite everything I'm criticizing, I'd also like to highlight what I thought was good. As a big Kaya fan, I like the way the Planeswalker was portrayed. Her sassy demeanour, which often just serves as a protective shield. I also liked the way she was treated as a planeswalker in Ravnica. A story arc that I thought was great in the non-canon comics. The city/plane of Ravnica has a real problem with multiversal invaders and Kaya and Ral are met with distrust and anger. I think it just felt natural in the storyline. Ral Zarek only had a brief appearance, but he was electrifying. (Well? huh? You get it?.... Sorry…)
The author, Seanan McGuire, has also written a good story that beautifully depicts Ravnica, the guilds and everything that goes with it. There was also - especially at the beginning - a lot of excitement and joy when the new chapter was published.
Basically, I would have liked to have seen a few open story lines (Lazav and Tezzeret) picked up and no new ones opened up. Only to be quickly cut short again.
I would be interested to hear your opinion on this? Am I being too critical? What do you think about the murderer and her motive?

Reincarnated as a Sword RPG
I really hate RPG-mechanics verses. That doesn't mean you cannot make a good show, and some of my favourite shows have RPG-mechanics.
RPG mechanics are necessary abstractions. For video games, even incredibly simple systems can lead to absolutely fantastic games. TTRPG's have to deal with more abstract things, i.e. worlds that involves things other than walk-forward-and-fight. The problem about TTRPG's is that there really isn't one that I like, on a mechanical level. This is the legacy of D&D, that was quite playable, but cumbersome mechanics, a leveling system that goes from n00b to living god in 20 levels, ridiculous restrictions, horrifying volumes of erata.
All things common to most RPG's. The only RPG that has a level progression system I like is Unicorn Overlord.
Reincarnated as a Sword uses an RPG that solves almost all of the problems.
The money system is insane, but is just pallet-swap of Yen, which means it much, much more consistent and useable than pretty much any other RPG.
Monsters are actually well defined. They spawn with crystals that allow them to use mana, a lovely gift from the gods of the setting. Which is absolutely wonderful, as most fantasy worlds have lazy, boring, normally inconsequential gods. The ones here and incredibly interesting, and unknowable.
Because of this mechanic, they can justify adventurers having swappable classes, as they use this very same magic system. The classes affect what stats your character gains when he levels up, and what skills you can learn. You then gain skill points, and can assign them as you choose. Maximizing skills unlocks other skills. So, in theory, you could swap classes, and keep your stat progression and skills.
These are mechanics we have definitely seen before, in both video games and anime, but none were as well thought out as this one. No part of it feels artificial.
Magic weapons are incredibly interesting and varied, rather than +1 damage, and bonus to damage against undead. The material of the weapon has a deep effect on the properties. Materials having reasonable rarities, interesting, and often unique effects, mana conductivity, inherent stats that seem reasonable in the world. Basically, the best of what we see everywhere else.
The anime also creates unique features for no reason than fun. They have a weird horse-kangaroo hybrid that replaces horses. The wagons look like three-wheeled turtles. The environments are wholly different from what you would expect, while being entirely reasonable.
A lot of the money adventurers make comes from the materials of the defeated resources, to the point that dungeons are treated as resource collection points. They have a core, which is what upgrades a local monster into the dungeon master, and replenishes the dungeon.

Territory Status: Day 19
It goes without saying that Meridia is no longer a valid target for Terminid assault. If nothing else, this is one less location to spread the Helldiver's forces thin across.
As the war progresses, it becomes clear that our original method of describing a planet's inhabitants' resistance on a relative scale, such as when we described Meridia as ten times the strength of Erata Prime, is inconvenient! Instead, we will now simply describe them as percentages, with these percentages being an approximation of how much of the planet's surface the enemy retakes in any given hour.
As the hornet's nest has been kicked, Terminid hives continue to spring up and fight harder than before. Fenrir III was assaulted, but the attack was quickly quelled. Resistance on Erata Prime has jumped from 1% to 2.5%, a rate that Acamar IV shares. All other Terminid planets except Turing lose 3% of SEAF progress every hour, while Turing itself is the most difficult, at 3.5%. As Meridia has been "secured," supply lines once again open up to Estanu and Crimsica in the Draco sector.
Unfortunately, a majority of Helldivers have elected to assault Turing first, which is brazen ignorance for the most recent orders from High Command to prioritize Automaton territory, where SEAF control is hanging on by a thread. As a robotic invasion marches on Vega Bay in the Ymir sector, less than 10% of Helldivers have moved to defend it. Many innocent citizens on the planet spend their final moments wondering where their saviors are before the Automatons murder and display them as gruesome ornaments in their hellish outposts. Most troopers on the bot front, in fact, have elected to retake Vernen Wells. Perhaps they have not yet been informed that control of the planet will not return the training grounds lost there when it was originally stolen by the bots. Either way, if nothing changes, we may very well see the Automatons invade Super Earth itself one day.
As the galactic war rages on, we have nothing but today's personal orders left to share with you, dear viewers. Stay tuned to hear them!

WIP Game: A Story Set in Sparta and Eukleidas, please!
Happy to oblige 😊
Eukleidas, also subtitled The Wrestler, is little more than the first stirrings of a new story, a couple pages long atm.
It begins:
The thunder rolled across the sky, reverberating and amplified in the colonnade overlooking the palaestra. Eukleidas paused on his path towards the wooden archway which led out onto the Hyakinthian Way, almost bewitched by the sudden intensity of the downpour; his ears crowded with the muted hammering of rain against roof tiles, the air filled with the heady scent of rain hitting dry ground, parched after the long dry of summer. He was carrying a faded red chiton and he began to absently wipe away the copious sweat from his shoulders and face, reddened by the just-won bout of wrestling, and saw blood come away from his ear. He dabbed at it again, but as usual, it bled for only a moment. His ears had been damaged so many times, it was almost as though they’d given up trying to contain blood.
A Story Set in Sparta is an accumulation of scenes that I've felt compelled to write over the last few years about Brasidas' life before the beginning of the war, and is focused on him, his foster brother Adimantos, and his first wife, Nikaia. I don't know if it will ever be finished; I tinker with it now and then, and think about it a lot.
Anyway - this is how they meet:
Nikaia was so lost in thought that she wasn’t paying attention to what was going on around her; and the next thing she knew, she was sprawled in the dust with an older boy, a shooting pain in her head where it'd hit the ground, and both knees stinging, no doubt skinned on the stony road surface. She pushed him off, close to tears, but determined not to cry. As she scrambled back to her feet, she snapped, Look where you’re going! He’d picked himself up, and turned to face her. You look where you’re going! From the same direction, another boy appeared, taller and more angular in his features. He was holding a fabric bag, filled with what may have been bread, or perhaps vegetables of some kind. He saw her looking and tucked it behind his back. He hissed with great urgency, Brasidas! We have to go! Brasidas. She would remember that. Erata had hurried up. Are you alright, Nikaia? Brasidas looked from the other boy, to her. He said with a suddenly disarming and entirely charming smile, I apologise for knocking you down, Nikaia. Then he was gone, his bare feet flying as he and his friend ducked away; a moment later an older boy, perhaps a new hebonte, came around the corner while Erata was still examining the lump on her head. Did two boys run this way? He asked brusquely. No, Nikaia said promptly. I think I saw them run down that alleyway. She pointed back the way he'd come, to a place where the road led into one of the side streets of Pitana. Thank you, he said, nodding, and turning back. When he was gone, Erata stood and looked at her strangely. Why did you lie? Nikaia shrugged guiltily. He didn’t mean to knock me down… she paused a moment before adding, and I feel sorry for the boys. They always look so hungry. They turned back towards home, Nikaia walking carefully, wincing at each step. Erata didn't say so, but she thought that this was the first time she had seen her young charge act selflessly, truly kindly. She knew no Spartan should think that way - the boys were meant to suffer, it was what made them warriors; but to her, it had always looked like cruelty - cruelty that had destroyed her life.

Foreword Helldivers is a game meant to be enjoyed however you prefer. Whether you head to Creek, Erata, or revisit Mars for a tutorial, it’s your game, and you should play it your way. However, this guide is intended for players who want to actively contribute to the galactic war and seeks to clarify some of the game’s more obscure mechanics that aren’t well-explained in-game. In recent Major…
