Btw you could make an argument for the most decorated Olympians in history having unfair advantages.
Michael Phelps? His arm length, his ankles being double-jointed, and his lung capacity give him an advantage in swimming.
Katie Ledecky? Not sure what her advantage actually is but she definitely blew the competition out of the water in the 1500 meter the other day when she broke the Olympic record. I watched it and she was at least 50 meters ahead of the second place swimmer at all times pretty much. I'm surprised I haven't seen anyone call the women's 1500 meter unfair because of it yet tbh.
Taller people inherently have an advantage in running (and track and field as a whole) due to having longer legs. I'm 5'1, I have a friend who's 6'1, and I'd occasionally race him on the upper level of the high school gym. While I didn't have too hard of a time keeping up with him, I was at an inherent disadvantage due to my height and my ankles being unstable.
The entire point of sports is that you're putting people with different advantages and disadvantages in the same sport. Yeah, some sports are more likely to cater to people with certain advantages (for example, basketball players are usually tall) but acting like the entire basis of sports isn't pitting people with different advantages and disadvantages against each other (or putting them on the same team to go up against another team with a variety of advantages and disadvantages) is you actively lying to yourself about what sports fundamentally are. Even in a marathon, someone who's 6'1 is going to have an advantage over my 5'1 ass. Hell, I'd probably be at a disadvantage in rowing because I'm hypermobile and my joints will dislocate or cause me pain over the tiniest of things (which is the same reason I can't see myself being a swimmer).
Sports are, at their core, putting people with different advantages and disadvantages against each other and to act like it's not is lying to yourself.
#im not taking arguments on this btw. you wont change my stance on this#sports#olympics#paris 2024#paris 2024 olympics#if you can guess what this is about GOOD JOB#sports exist to test human endurance and physical ability. i think we need to stop policing them based on who has an unfair advantage#(there are exceptions obviously. equestrian sports are more a test of the horse's abilities and how the rider trained them for example)

Disco Elysium fun facts, Part 1
0. There's an entire lore atlas (endless love to the author), although while it has at least some of those facts I list below, it mostly focuses on geography.
And yeah, SPOILER WARNING.
Jean Vicquemare's full name is Jean-Heron Vicquemare. It's literally only mentioned in one line of dialogue below. Esprit de Corps - With an agitated gait Satellite-Officer Jean-Heron Vicquemare paces the jetty, 22 kilometres East -- in Martinaise: "What could he *possibly* be doing there for so long," he says.
Jean was (is) an equestrian cop, as in, horse-mounted. However, I found no confirmation that he particularly liked horses as a hobby-thing. I think "we" in this line meant for "the pair of us", as police partners. Because there are lines in the game referring to other MCs in Precinct 41. But I have no space in this post to quote them. Jean Vicquemare - "For the record, you pressured us into getting it. 'It'll be cool Jean, we'll have wheels, rapid response...' I was fine being an equestrian cop. I hope you're fine driving a *bicycle*."
The actual name of Kim's dead partner, who was nicknamed "Eyes", was probably Dom or something that starts with Dom. At least this is name put on two cases in Kim's paperwork, which you can peek into if you come to Kim's room after the Tribunal without Kim. I assume that meant to happen if Kim was shot, but I theoretize that you could do that by going to sleep and then just going into the room, since Kim magically disappears after you dismiss him for the night and won't be in his room unless you knock on the outside door. Half-Finished Paperwork - This year, you can see references to: THE CHILD, DOM'S UNFINISHED; DOM'S UNFINISHED 2, MOTORCYCLE EMPTINESS, and THE MAN WITH THE HOLE IN HIS HEAD. UPD: "Dom" doesn't seem to be initials, because see Cuno (but then again, what does Cuno know about this? Maybe he SHOULD have read it as initials!): Cuno - The boy picks up the notes and shuffles through some of the case names: "'The Child', 'Dom's Unfinished', 'Dom's Unfinished 2', 'The Man With the Hole in His Head'... Boring ass shit," he concludes.
Homosexuality was legalized by communards in '04, which is 8 years before Kim was born. But we all known that society needs much longer to adapt to the thought. The exact details are hard to say. Encyclopedia at least says that there's no actual cults involved. The Deserter - "Lax sexual morals are a bourgeois ploy," he gargles a spit ball. "As to pederasty, the Party legalized it in '04. My Party, not your liberal masters." He spits it out on the dying coals. Encyclopedia - Just pointing it out, we're not talking about some kind of a cult with *members* here, you made it up.
Murder in Martinaise happened at March 4th, '51. Give or take a day. This, so far, is the least important piece of trivia I decided to add. You - "8. Date of death:" Kim Kitsuragi - "We're still going with March 4th, '51."
Motor carriages are controlled by two steering levers, not by a steering wheel. Not only you can see that if you close-up on Kim's Kineema, there are direct quotes about it. Abandoned Lorry - The glass on the side windows is tinted and covered with dust. You can barely make out the shape of a seat and two steering levers. Coupris Kineema - In the cabin you see a set of steering levers, a radio on a hook, a pull-out toolbox and the soft glow of the fuel pre-heater gauge.
I found where from people took "Volta do Mar" as Kim's personal skill. It's something printed on Kim's jacket you can buy as official DE merch.
At some point in his career, for unknown reasons, Kim worked in Processing for a year. They are as bad as he describes them. Kim Kitsuragi - He shakes his head. "I worked as one of these *Processing guys* for a year. They are butchers and clowns. I once saw twenty CODs go misidentified in one week. Chances are slim to none that they'll find anything useful in processing."
The mystery of Kim's glasses. There's one line that says they are "diamond-shaped" despite his portrait. I've seen a comment suggesting it refers to "diamat", as in, dialectic materialism. I think this feels more like a typo, but why would anyone think Kim's glasses are diamond-shaped when they were round from his earliest (and only) concept art? Kim Kitsuragi - The lieutenant says nothing. You see the machine's glowing frame reflected back from his diamond-shaped glasses. You're free to proceed. Truly a mystery. The case of DIAMOND-ROUND-SHAPED GLASSES will stay unsolved forever.
Kim *isn't* a moralist. Present tense. He *was* a moralist once, but since then, he changed his mind. Now he believes in RCM. He embodies the political stance of "all ideologies suck in their own ways, let's just live our lives here and try do to a good job" (which I *heartily* approve). Although some will say that *this* is moralist by itself. Kim Kitsuragi - "Yes. I *did* -- when I was younger. In my twenties I considered myself a moralist. *A blue forget-me-not, a piece of the sky*," he quotes. "They're not all that bad." Kim Kitsuragi - "But the years have changed that. I don't know *what* I believe in now...." He thinks, then changes his mind. "No. I believe in the RCM. That's enough for me."
Harry always wakes up at 7:30. He made a vow. Volition - You got up from this floor because of a holy vow you made sixteen years ago. With *me*. To wake up exactly 07:30 every morning until the day you die. Notably, the morning right after the memory loss is an exception, where Harry only wakes up because of the Kineema. I have a suspicion that if Kim didn't drive to the Whrling-in-Rags, Harry could've never woke up. Never-ever-ever.
The standard role-playing dice in Elysium is a 24-side die. There's a side for each skill! You - "What's a *standard* role-playing die?" Novelty Dicemaker - "It's an *icositetrahedron* -- a 24-sided die that can produce results for a 2-sided, 3-sided, 4-sided, 6-sided, and 12-sided die with a single roll. Technically you can also use it for many other sizes, but you may need to re-roll results."
Trant was formerly addicted to pyrholidon. I think it's implied that his practice of stick fighting, which he does for 4 hours daily for 20 years straight, is a replacement for said addiction. Trant Heidelstam - "Lo Manthang stick fighting is a little like a pyrholidon addiction," he explains with a little smile. "I've been practising it for nearly 20 years now, so you could say that my doses have grown a little… peculiar." Electrochemistry - Wait. What does this man know about pyrholidon addiction? You - "Hold on. Pyrholidon addiction? What an interesting metaphor…" (Study his face.) "Or perhaps not a metaphor at all?" Trant Heidelstam - "You got me, detective." He chuckles, before a shadow takes hold of his face. "But my history should hardly come as a surprise." Authority - Here's a former junkie. I can recognize one when I see it. Mikael Heidelstam - Suddenly little Mikael opens up his mouth: "Dad's fighting with sticks every night after dinner for four hours. He has a special room for that -- and a special costume!"
Trant is divorced and shares custody of his son with his mother. As usual, there's only one line that points at it. But at least it's clear enough. (I give their due to Jean/Trant shippers) Trant Heidelstam - "I sent him home," he responds calmly. "Mikael is with his mother. We share custody."
Judit has been in Harry's task force for only 2 months, imagine that. It probably explains why she's so nice to him. Judit Minot - "Lieutenant," she says with a heavy sigh. "My name is not 'Horse-Faced Woman'. It's Judit Minot. I was assigned to your unit two months ago. I thought we were friends..."
All facts are proven with quotes taken from the game dialogues on FAYDE. No quote - no fact.
Disco Elysium is a huge game, with lots of lore not just about its world, but about its characters... And this lore is split under a bazillion of different conversations which are hard to navigate and easy to miss.
As a result, there are a lot of small facts that many people just unaware of and make up their own stuff instead. The inconsistency irks me a little (actually, it irks me a lot). Love, peace <3 More facts in part 2 whenever I feel like adding them, because of symbol count restriction.
#disco elysium#jean vicquemare#kim kitsuragi#harry du bois#trivia#my brain likes when things to be neat orderly and standardized way too much#random thoughts#this is a spin-off entry to random thoughts series so no number and no title#also i hate when people are factually wrong on the internet

web of wyrd: the career number
the number we are focusing on today is based on the SACRAL PHYSICS NUMBER AND THE FLOW NUMBER (ex: my career number is 7: 8 + 17 = 25 -> 2 + 5 = 7 (recall that numbers must be summed a second time if they total 23 (i.e. 2 + 3 = 5) and above)). for some reason this is a calculation error in my astro-calc chart - my monetary number and relationship numbers are swapped (don't be afraid to question your numbers and check the math of websites).
but what does this number mean?
this number represents your career and monetary situation in this lifetime. that being said, this number can give you insight into what you can do for a career long-term, what you are like at work (your strengths and weaknesses in the workplace), and your monetary mindset.
so let's talk about some examples:
7 - the chariot
click here for the card description of the chariot found in a prior wyrd web post.
for unblocked 7s it is important to maintain focus, have clear intentions, and a plan in their line of work. they often work from the bottom up - they start in an entry level position then come into power (in some theories, the charioteer was both the page of swords and the page of wands before they came into power in the major arcana). often it is their careful planning and plotting that gains them their success.
blocked 7s often lack confidence at work and fear being talked down to / judged for their actions. they often lack focus and direction, which causes them financial stress. they are in need of careful planning and reflection to get out of their burdensome situations. they should try to be less impulsive and more intentional at work and when searching for jobs in order for them to find what works for them.
careers for the charioteer are chauffeur, delivery driving (UPS, amazon delivery, mail, etc), military services, pilot, police men, emergency services (firefighting, EMT, etc), security guard, equestrian, chemist/pharmacist, chef/cook/baker/nutritionist, political diplomat, marine biology, phlebotomist, ship captain, babysitter/nanny, hotel manager, housekeeper, fisherman, fertility specialist, farmer, land baron/baroness, pottery maker, plumber, real estate agent, and other related fields.
14 - temperance
rider-white's temperance (symbolic of sagittarius) depicts an angel facing the view with their eyes shut. their purple-y/red wings emphasizes their passion for the mystical as well as harmony. their golden curls are haloed showing that the angel is an enlightened being. they stand in a white (innocence) robe with one foot on land and the other in water - which shows they are connected to the emotional and the physical world. water seamlessly flows between the cups, meaning to show the flow of energy in life forces. a sun (alludes to the sun card) rises in the distance and illuminates a path for the angel to take. the irises to their [the angel's] right show that they have the wisdom needed to take on whatever gets in their way on this journey.
unblocked 14s seek help from those around them so that they can reach their monetary and career goals. they look for signs as to what they should act upon in their career and as to what they should do for their long-term career. they are flexible at work and are often very even-keeled. they are patient at work and when it comes to making money.
blocked 14s often try very hard at work and to make a lot of money - they can be too hard on themselves and their co-workers. they might struggle with relaxing - they have a lot of monetary stress. they have to realize that being overworked does not mean they are working efficiently/effectively. look at you schedule / your role and try to find ways to slow down so that you can realign with your values and goals.
careers for the angelic temperance person are medical careers (doctor, nurse, etc), pharmacist, scientist, librarian, life insurance agent, marketing/advertisement, air steward/stewardess, attorney, banker, religious leader, teacher, philanthropist, philosopher, publisher, podcaster, radio show host/hostess, writer, and other related fields.
18 - the moon
rider-white's the moon (symbolic of pisces) depicts one wild dog/coyote and one tame dog (the duality of human nature) barking at the moon or rather an eclipse. behind and between the two dogs is a lobster - the lobster is a bottom feeder of sorts, thus could represent the shadow self. the lobster emerges from the water to walk a moonlight/guided path through the mountains similar to how the hermit once walked the mountains - thus alluding to the lobster doing self-discovery / the quartet doing shadow work. first the lobster must walk between the rebuilt towers - likely face personal change.
unblocked 18s embrace their darker selves when in the workplace - they are okay with failing and having weaknesses. they see it as room made to grow/evolve. while they know how to be civil, they also know when to be impulsive and aggressive to get things done. they are open to others ideas - they are open to learning what they perviously didn't know before. they are ambitious and want to go outside the scope of what they are already know. they don't fall for things that sound too good to be true in their financial realm. they are willing to confront why they maybe the ones in their own way of gaining more money, getting a raise, etc.
blocked 18s often refuse to acknowledge that they are in a career that is making them unhappy or is not compatible with their monetary lifestyle. they might be the type to ignore their debts for awhile or to the point where it gets bad and they struggle to catch up / recover. they are also prone to falling for "get rich quick" schemes; they also might struggle with gambling - the might not know how to walk away when they have made money back / are gaining. they hate failing at things or having weaknesses in the workplace. they are prone to staying in a job that is comfortable for them without growing or accepting promotions. don't be afraid to break free.
careers for the moon are night club owner/manager, psychic, doggie daycare center management, dog kennel owner, dog breeder, night club performer, professional water sport athlete, alcohol vender, sommelier, marine biology, art therapist, artist, bartender, mental health professional, chemical engineer, detective, drug manufacturer, life guard, prison guard, private investigator, relief worker, writer, and other related fields.

I got an ask from an Anon last week and @whatevenisthishellhole yesterday about the red in 4 Minutes (which I included in two different posts, one with the red in episode 1 and another with the red in episode 2) and if those pops of colors actually mean something or are unintentional.
Anon's question was more about how the red relates to the story (which I will expand on in a separate post whenever the Olympics are over) and if I thought it connects Great and Tyme somehow, while @whatevenisthishellhole asked more about whether I think the red I included in those posts was used intentionally in the show or not. So, I'm combining these asks to write a bit sweepingly (since I want to get back to fully focusing on the Olympics) about color and the red in 4 Minutes.
I first want to mention that all pieces of visual media have a color story, whether intentional or not. It's just as important in a painting as it is in a series. Color is important (which is why there is a whole process of color correction/color grading in the post-production of films/series).
So, the short answer is: yes, all colors matter.
Obviously, the colors usually matter more to the actual story if used intentionally to complement the story (like color-coded characters, to show hierarchical structures, to create moods, etc.). However, color stories with the intention to create a visually pleasing look also matter since the goal of visual media (like the QLs we watch) is to keep the viewer's eyes on the screen.
(If you've ever kept watching a show for the visuals even though the story is chaos (I'm looking at you Chains of Heart) then you know how powerful the visual aspect can be, and the color story is included in that.)
Of course, the shows that combine both colors that complement the story and a color story that's visually pleasing have a knockout combination. (Examples of this that I can remember off the top of my head are Secret Crush on You and The Trainee, the latter is currently airing.)
So, to summarize, all color stories matter.
It's just that some colors may be more intentionally used than others.
Do I think this subtle red...
Is as intentional as this intense pop of red?
Not necessarily.
But that doesn't mean that this subtle red (the binders/books on the shelves in the background) doesn't matter:
What if it's an indicator that Fasai (and/or her father) is in league with someone within the police force?
(Yes, the binders are different, and yes, the red on the books/binders at Fasai's place might be unintentional. But, someone in the production put them there so that they show up on both sides of Fasai in that shot.)
And even if it's a red string/cord (or whatever that is) in Tonkla's drawer:
Or the red in Korn and Great's dad's tie:
It all matters in one way or another, whether it's intentionally used to complement the story (or give us clues about something) or to add to the visually pleasing color story that the show has.
What I'm saying is that some red pops of color might be unintentional in 4 Minutes (and probably are). But the unintentional stuff also matters.
So, Anon and @whatevenisthishellhole, thank you for your asks, and I hope this makes sense even though I'm distracted by the equestrian jumping competition in the Olympics, lol.

So you want to write about horses.
(Part 3! Enjoy this post? Want to know more? Check out So You Want To Write About Horses Part 1 and So You Want To Write About Horses: Medieval Edition)
Maybe your character is a jockey, or a rancher, or a stablehand, or the ever popular cowboy in the wild west. Maybe they have a whole team and an Olympic dream. But what do people even do with horses? I can help.
First, some vital terms
The equipment that a horse wears is referred to as Tack. Tack can be minimal or incredibly complex. The part that goes on the horse's head when riding is the bridle, and the part that goes on the back for the person to sit on is the saddle.
^ Got that? Good, there will be a test at the end.
Now, What do people even do with horses?
To know the jobs around horses, you should know that the equestrian world is divided into very distinct and separate realms, and the further you delve into these realms, the more specific and specialized the horses, equipment, and terms become. Broadly, there is "pleasure" horses and "working" horses. Working horses are relied upon for physical labor to support their humans. Pleasure horses fall into more of a hobby for their humans.
There is also the Western riding style and the English riding style. The Western style descends from the Spanish saddle, and is used throughout the world, but most commonly in the Americas, where it is closely tied to herding cattle. The English style is a bit harder to clearly pin down the original influences, but has history in military uses throughout the European continent, and currently exists internationally. The English style is the style used at the Olympic games and in jumping competitions, whereas Western is not.
^ this is an example of a Western Style working horse. Western describes the style of equipment as well as the riding style. This horse is dressed for herding cattle, with a large comfortable saddle and simple rope bridle.
^ This is also a working horse, this time in the English riding style. Notice the saddle is much smaller, without a large 'horn' at the front of the saddle, and the bridle on the horse's head is much more complex. This horse is a Police horse.
^ and there are many combinations, variations, or lack ofs that exist. Some people have trained their horses to not need any tack, and need only the tiniest movements of their rider's body. Don't ask me how, I am not one of them.
Finally, Professions involving horses.
For ease of understanding, I will break this into segments that involve all horses, English horses, Western horses, and then the even more specific horses like racehorses, ect.
This edition will deal with professions involving All Horses.
Equine Veterinarians
Veterinarians that work with horses in rural areas are usually more generally large animal veterinarians, while equine vets, often attached to an equine hospital or clinic, have specific and in-depth knowledge of equine medicine, rather than equine and bovine medicine. Both large animal vets and equine vets administer vaccines, diagnostic tests, and certificates of health, as well as diagnosing and prescribing treatments of injuries and sicknesses. Vets also aid in breeding horses, caring for pregnant mares, birthing foals, and handling semen collection or injection for artificial insemination.
One of the most common reasons for a vet call is for the treatment of colic, any horse owner's nightmare. Horses have a massive system of intestines, and any change to a horse's diet, stress, or exercise, as well as many other causes, can lead to a backup of food or feces in the digestive system. Minor cases can resolve with pain treatment, but in severe cases surgery is required, and horses can die very quickly from what is essentially an extremely dangerous stomach ache. It is one of the most common causes of death for horses.
^ In very severe cases, parts of the intestine tie themselves into knots, lose blood flow, and die within the horse. I know many horses that have died from colic, and some that have survived.
Farriers
Farriers are pedicure specialists for horses. The hoof of a horse is simply a very large and thick fingernail, and a farrier is an expert in trimming, shaping, and even repairing that massive fingernail, as well as tacking on metal shoes to the bottom of a horse's foot. Farriers are also sometimes blacksmiths, and will create their own shoes, while others use premade shoes and nails.
^ (1)A farrier tacking on a shoe to a horse's hoof. (2) Shaping hooves with a rasp. Farrier treatments cause no pain to the horse when done correctly, and the specialized knowledge of which is why many farriers are expensive. Horses will need this redone every 4-8 weeks, depending on the horse and the environment. Even more than the vet, a good farrier is vital to the health and use of a horse, while a bad farrier can ruin a horse in less than the swing of a hammer.
(Side note: This is not a shoe, and no person putting that on a horse should be considered a farrier. I don't take many strong stances in informational posts, but this is one.)
Saddlers
These expert leather workers fit and shape the tack to the shape of the horse and the shape of the rider. Many serious riders have custom fitted tack, where a base saddle or bridle has been reworked after purchase to perfectly fit the riding pair in question. (I have one, it was expensive, and it continues to be worth it). Historically, tack has always been made with leather, which allows for stretch and molding of the tack, as well as decades of longevity, and still today, only the cheapest of tack is made with plastics. Saddlers often specialize in English or Western style tack, and many old brands are still known today for certain fits.

Trainers
Horses do not naturally trust humans, even after thousands of years of domestication, nor do they automatically know how to be ridden. Trainers are experts not only in their discipline, but also experts in horse behavior, communication (with humans and horses), basic first aid, common sense, and the rarest of all, the elusive 'horse sense'. Horse sense give a trainer the understanding of a horse's personality, and allows them to form a bond that not only teaches the horse to trust them, but to trust all humans. A trainer's job is to discover the horse's potential abilities, as well as the horse's fears, dislikes, and any pain or mis-training that could impede a horse's progress. Across the world, there are many style of training, many jobs that horses must be taught to preform, and a lot of misunderstandings. A good trainer can save the lives of horses and humans alike, a bad trainer can ruin both. The first steps of training a horse can be referred to as 'starting', 'breaking', 'training', 'backing', and many more.
Grooms
Grooms are the beauty professionals of the horse world, as well as the people getting everything done behind the scenes at high level barns or shows. In some places, grooms bring the horse in from the field or stall to be brushed, put the tack on the horse, warm the horse up, and then hand the horse over to the rider. In other places, grooms are a luxury as much as a butler for your horse. Grooms may also be responsible for managing the stables and tacking areas, keeping those areas clean through sweeping or removing mess, and potentially feeding, moving horses from pasture to stable, or whatever else needs to be done at a large stable. In other situations, the more grunt work will fall to part-time stablehands, while the grooms focus on working with the horses and riders.
^ Racehorse Groom Stephanie Searle grooms a racehorse.
Floaters/Equine Dentists
Horses are unique animals, with unique digestive systems, as has already been discussed, and with unique teeth. Due to horses' diets involving primarily hays, grasses, or grains, the teeth of a horse receive a great deal of wear from the tough nature of these foods. The wear patterns are so well documented that they have for thousands of years been used to tell the age of a horse with a great deal of accuracy.
Floaters are equine teeth experts, and receive their name from the practice of 'floating', or grinding sharp areas of horses' teeth down to prevent these sharp points from slicing into the horse's cheeks or stopping a horse from properly chewing.
^ Floating a horse's teeth. Also not painful, but like many people, horses tend to prefer being sedated for the dentist.
Professional Transport
In the modern age, as well as to a certain extent, the past, horses are constantly being moved, shown, sold, and shipped. Professional horse transport exists in the form of semi-trucks, ships, and planes, as well as trains. The transport of horses, usually very expensive and valuable horses, requires a team of professionals including veterinarians to ensure the horses' safety in transition.
^ Horses ready to go on a plane. Personally, a terrifying sight.
Alternative Treatments
Just like human medicine, horse medicine has a proliferation of supplements, alternative treatments, folk magic, and home treatments. Professional equine nutritionists work with feed companies as well as feed supplement companies (think herbal food additives as well as fish oil, ect.) to create supplement brands that claim to calm or energize horses, ease pain, prevent colic, or treat any number of issues. Horses may receive any number of visits from such varied services as equine massage therapists, equine physical therapists, equine chiropractors, equine spirit mediums, animal communicators, and so on. The scientific basis for these professionals ranges from well supported to lacking support, but such services remain popular regardless.
^ No matter what the profession with horses ends up being, just about everyone starts here: mucking out the stalls.
This post will end here, but keep an eye for the extended cut with the English and Western specific professions!

It is actually wild that PETA is doing a better job policing the equestrian side of the Olympics than the FEI is.
The FEI issued a warning to the Brazilian eventer using rollkur only after PETA kicked up a fuss about it. They ignored initial reports about it.
But FEI is still allowing for tight or poorly fitted nosebands, used against their guidelines.
The dressage should be interesting since we have a lot of riders competing who have left their horses with blue tongues due to lack of oxygen from hyperflexion/compression on windpipe and tight nosebands.
We also have the queen of Rollkur, Isabel Werth competing on a Helgstrand horse. And she had the gall to publicly criticise Charlotte Dujardin and act all “holier than thou” about the sport as if she’s never abused her horses. The other irony is that she’s competing on a horse from a stable who had a huge abuse scandal just last year.
The hypocrisy and welfare washing continues. And the sport continues to lose more social support.

Hey what quirks could suit a Celebrity the best?
I assume you mean Quirks that help you deal with celebrity life and not ones that will make you a celebrity? In which case, I will give special mention to "Incite". This could turn your fans into a pack of loyal lunatics to fight for you, but I don't think you need a super power to do that.
Super Regeneration: You are either going to be doing stupid stuff or being surrounded. Best to have some insurance for some idiot thinks they're an equestrian and both of your legs get broken.
Mimicry: Sometimes, you just need to get away from what everyone trying to bother you. Sinking into whatever maybe nearby to hide or slink around would be useful, especially if you happen to be crowded.
Outburst: You want people to like you. At least, you want to seem like people like you. What better way to show your fun side by having people laugh at whatever you say. Now the laugh track will never leave you.
Longevity: If you're riding off of fame for a living, you're going to want to keep that going for as long as possible. And if you are really good at something, people are going to want to you around for a long time to do it, like old movie stars.
Transform: Another one that is good for hiding yourself, only now more proactive. You can now blend into crowds of people without any one noticing or sneak away from all the obligations. They can't call you a diva if they can't find you.
Confession: There are so many people that will lie to you because you are famous. Either to make you think they like or because they want to sell you something that's going to hurt you. Maybe a bit of honesty would do them some good.
Queen Bee: You're going to be surrounded by people you don't want to deal with, whether they be obnoxious fans not respecting your space or paparazzi ruining your day out. Nothing disperses a crowd quite as a fast as a swarm of angry bees.
Clones: You're going to be dealing with a lot of stuff that you don't want to deal with or simply don't have time to. So have your clones put up with. You can have one doing your photo shoot, one doing your book signing, and another setting up your alibi for the police.

Hello there. If possible, do you have any headcanons about horseback rider / horse girl / equestrian / Cinnabar? Since Cinnabar has a white horse with her while in her Courteous Call / Regards skin (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6bPy_yLZvHY-), I thought about asking this question. Personally, I think Cinnabar would take F!Chief on horseback riding dates, maybe even performing a few Dressage techniques for F!Chief. What do you think? Thank you too! :)
Here you go anon, sorry for the wait! Honestly, this request reminded me of how much I miss riding myself; I had a lot of fun with it!
Equestrian Cinnabar x F!Chief
Cinnabar and Chief have been dating for a while, sharing an apartment in one of the lower income areas of Eastside. They don’t have much to their name, but it’s enough to live a comfortable life, and they’re happy.
Chief works at the local police station, though she’s getting more and more unhappy with her job by the day as the rate of corruption continues to steadily increase. Cinnabar works for a private security firm, and while she doesn’t seem as discontent as Chief herself is, she can still notice the seemingly-eternal exhaustion in the eyes of her dearest.
One day, Chief comes home from work to see Cinnabar reading a letter with wide eyes. Worrying that it’s something bad, Chief asks about it; with amazement in her tone, Cinnabar explains that an old friend of her father’s wanted her to take over her family’s horse ranch.
Chief had no idea that Cinnabar’s family owned a horse ranch; her girlfriend had never mentioned it before. Naturally, there was no end to the questions. It turned out that Cinnabar had grown up on her family’s horse ranch, and her father had fostered an avid love of riding in her. When her father died, some of her spark for equestrian did too. Her father’s best friend, Alyosha, took over the ranch, and a teenaged Cinnabar continued to ride for several years, competing in many competitions and winning no shortage of prizes. She was the pride of everyone who lived and worked on the ranch… but eventually, that hollow hole in her heart became too much, and she moved away to study at a police academy.
The two deliberate for a long time over whether Cinnabar should accept Alyosha’s offer, as she’s still hesitant about returning to the ranch after such a long time. Eventually, Chief manages to convince her; both of them are clearly falling into a rut with their current lifestyle, and perhaps, after so long away, some of Cinnabar’s wounds may have healed.
The two pack up and prepare to move that weekend. It’s a several hours long car ride out to the countryside, though Chief ends up taking over the driving no less than an hour in, noticing that Cinnabar is jittery and distracted.
Chief had half-expected Cinnabar to immediately head for the stables upon their arrival, but that wasn’t the case. Instead, she brought Chief inside the main house to give her a tour; it seemed like the house hadn’t changed that much in the years she’d been gone. Cinnabar’s old bedroom was almost untouched, and the two moved into it.
Chief was also introduced to the others on the ranch. Alyosha was a strict man and she couldn’t help but feel like he was judging her closely, but she could also tell that he and Cinnabar were very close.
The other ranch-hands were a lot friendlier than Alyosha, and they all seemed to perk up upon learning she was Cinnabar’s girlfriend. They offered to give her a tour of the rest of the ranch while Cinnabar spoke with Alyosha, and their questions and teasing were pretty much endless.
It wasn’t until the next morning that Cinnabar returned to the stables. Waking up at around six AM, Chief noticed she was alone in bed. Heading out to the kitchen, she was given some toast and coffee by a friendly ranch-hand and informed that Cinnabar had gotten up to do chores two hours ago.
After finishing breakfast and thanking the ranch-hand, Chief headed out to the stables, which she couldn’t help but notice were at least twice as clean as they were yesterday. Some of the other ranchers working in the stables already helpfully directed Chief to one of the end stalls.
When Chief first saw Cinnabar grooming the proud white stallion, she couldn’t help but stop in her tracks, breath caught in her throat. Cinnabar was dressed in full riding gear, gloves to boots, a hand on the horse’s neck as she murmured softly to it. Though Chief couldn’t make out the words, she recognized the affection in her girlfriend’s tone; Cinnabar was nothing short of resplendent.
The horse noticed Chief, its ears flicking; noticing, Cinnabar turned to see what had gotten its attention, and blushed right away. “C-Chief, I wasn’t expecting it to be you. I thought you’d sleep in more.”
“Couldn’t help it. My bed-warmer was gone.” Chief made a joke to try and cover up how flustered she was, hesitantly stepping closer. “You look like you’ve found where you’re meant to be, Cin.”
Cinnabar blushed deeper, and distracted herself by introducing the horse to Chief. His name was Knight and he was the horse Cinnabar had been riding since she was little; though he was getting older, he was still the gentle and regal soul he had always been. Cinnabar encouraged Chief to let Knight smell her hands, and then gently pat him; indeed, Knight’s response was quite agreeable, and he seemed to be enjoying the attention.
Despite the full riding gear, though, Cinnabar didn’t take Knight out to ride. She instead attached a lead rope to Knight’s halter and walked him around the paddock. Chief could tell that Cinnabar was still hesitant about riding; she wanted to help, but wasn’t sure how, so she resolved to simply support her girlfriend.
It took about a week for Cinnabar to finally decide to try riding Knight again. During this time, Chief had been slowly adjusting to waking up in the wee hours of the morning to head out and help Cinnabar with her chores. She’d actually yet to ride any horses herself, but she liked to think she was good at mucking their stalls, grooming and feeding them, and cleaning their tack and whatnot.
Cinnabar had been hesitant while putting Knight’s tack on, but as soon as she sat astride the saddle, she was all confidence and poise. Later on, Cinnabar explained that horses were very in tune with their rider’s emotions, and she hadn’t wanted Knight to be affected by her lingering uncertainties.
Cinnabar walked Knight for a few laps around the paddock to warm up, then a trot, then a gentle canter. It wasn’t anything particularly incredible – no galloping or jumping or any amazing equestrian feats. Still, Chief couldn’t help but note how absolutely at home in the saddle Cinnabar looked, and she knew that this was where her girlfriend truly belonged, not in the big city.
After about a month on the ranch had passed, Cinnabar invited Chief to go trail riding with her, and she was more than happy to accept. She was breathless in awe at the scenery – her girlfriend had taken her on a trail that wound down by the shore of a large lake with pristine waters, one impossible to reach by motor vehicles. The leaves on the trees were just starting to turn colors, too, creating a picturesque view that Chief knew would be seared into her memory forever.
Of course, her favorite part was by far feeling her back pressed up against Cinnabar’s chest, basking in their shared warmth. It was an extremely close and intimate feeling, and despite having never ridden horseback before, Chief had never felt more safe and secure than in this moment.
It had become apparent by now that Cinnabar would indeed be taking over the ranch, so the riding trails became a date the two of them went on every weekend, weather permitting. Chief was in awe of the sheer amount of hidden trails tucked away in the countryside, and just when she thought she’d gotten a grasp on one of them, Cinnabar would reveal a new shortcut or secret path, once again reinvigorating her with a child-like wonder. Of course, her favorite part was always spending time so close to Cinnabar.
After about a month or two on the ranch, Chief could see that Cinnabar was back in the saddle as though she’d never stopped riding in the first place. Chief often found herself leaning against the fence of the paddock, watching as her girlfriend made complicated jumps look like child’s play, or left the times of the other ranch residents in the dust during any sort of race.
One of the ranchers informed Chief that Cinnabar had been quite the dressage star in her youth. Chief wondered if what Cinnabar had already shown her didn’t count as star quality anyway, but her curiosity got the best of her and she ended up asking her girlfriend if she could see some techniques. Cinnabar was embarrassed, but obliged. As soon as she saw Cinnabar performing even basic dressage, Chief forgot how to breathe; she’d always thought Cinnabar and Knight were incredibly in tune, but now it was as if they moved as a single entity. Steed and rider, there seemed to be no difference between the two, and Chief found herself spellbound by the graceful dance of dressage, the ultimate understanding between two companions. It quickly became a delight to watch Cinnabar put on private dressage showings for her; if Chief had had any doubts that Cinnabar belonged on the ranch, they would’ve long been dispelled.
Cinnabar eventually offered to buy Chief a horse of her own, and Chief said she’d think about it; however, the truth was that she really couldn’t see herself as an equestrian at all. Riding in the saddle with Cinnabar and helping her to take care of Knight… It may not be the typical idea of life on a horse ranch, but it’s the only life Chief felt like she needed. And, at the end of the day… Both her and Cinnabar were happier than they’d ever been.

He wears a white lab coat, a dark green dress shirt, brown slacks, black shoes and a black bow tie. Lastly, a pair of brown-framed glasses sit over his brown eyes.
Synopsis
The father of Richard "Dick" Wells, stepfather of Arthur Wright and husband of Amelia Wright-Wells, Rhys is a physician hailing from Wales. His first wife, Dick's mother, died when the boy was barely more than a toddler. Following her death, Rhys and Dick moved to Concordia for a new, better life. Here, Rhys established a medical practice and began serving the community.
A few years after moving to Concordia, Rhys met Amelia Wright at a production of A Midsummer Night's Dream by the local theatre. He's not ashamed to admit it felt like love at first sight, but he was still nervous to pursue a new relationship even though his first wife had been deceased for years. He was worried Dick would think he was trying to replace his mother, so they took things slow, starting as friends until they were ready to take the next step. And when their relationship had gotten serious enough to introduce each others' children, Rhys was glad the first meeting had gone well. His son was ecstatic at the idea of finally having a little brother, and Arthur seemed interested in having an older brother, too.
Eventually, Rhys and Amelia married, uniting their two families into one. Life was great for the Wright-Wells family. Of course, they had their issues, but their love stayed strong through it all. As his sons grew up, Rhys encouraged them to pursue their dreams which led to Arthur joining the police academy and Dick entering medical school. He was proud of the paths both of his sons had chosen and was even prouder when they announced they would be founding members of Concordia's new Flying Squad.
During the current timeline of the series, Rhys made his first appearance when he stepped in as temporary coroner after Dick became a suspect in Heartbroken. While his primary profession is family medicine, Rhys holds a pathology degree and is a certified coroner. He has always told his sons that he would be there if they needed his help. So, he assisted the Flying Squad with the case and was happy to hear that Dr. Hart's killer had been caught even if who it was and the reason for the murder were heartbreaking…
After the case was solved, he, Amelia, the Flying Squad, and their families attended Kilian Bontemps's equestrian performance. He also met Jason's mother, the first and only recipient of Hestia's Heart. Seeing how the invention had replaced the woman's heart was fascinating, and Melaina welcomed him to read her files to learn more about the medical marvel. Rhys also promised to keep Dick from overwhelming her as his son was even more excited about the invention than his father was.
More to be revealed in Murders of The Past
Organization(s)
Concordian Flying Squad
Rank: Coroner
Story Information
First appeared: Heartbroken
Trivia
He is based on an IRL doctor I work with
Amelia was hesitant to take her husband's surname when they married due to past trauma involving changing her surname. So, Rhys offered to hyphenate his name with her if she chose to take the Wells name. Their sons didn't hyphenate their names like the couple did, and to this day, most people still refer to Amelia as a Wright, while people call Rhys a Wells
He still operates a medical practice, though he only does family medicine now. But he does also practice other fields like obstetrics and gynecology
Rhys and Dick did and still do experiments together. Rhys isn't as crazy as Dick is with his experiments, but he still supports his son's endeavours and is always there to patch Dick up after an experiment backfires. And while he'll always worry about his son's safety, Rhys knows Dick would never intentionally put himself in danger in the name of science… Most of the time!
He is good friends with Leopold Rochester. This is also the friend he was referring to in Heartbroken when he says he knows one of the World Exhibition sponsors

ABDENSHORE, Brindleton Bay (SNN) - - The palace shared a photo of Phillip, Prince of Brindleton Bay, riding his grandfather, the late King George I's, prize-winning thoroughbred, Misty Moon.
Prince Phillip is seen on horseback taking part in the 2024 gymkhansim in Sable Square, while The Royal Family is in Brindleton Bay vacationing. According to Merrisim-Webster, a gymkhansim is “a meet featuring sports contests or athletic skills… such as competitive games on horseback.” Prince Rainier, a competitive polo player, taught his son, Phillip, to play polo at a young age.
Prince Phillip received his first horse riding lesson when he was 3 years old. His first horse, given to him when he turned four, was a Shetland pony named Rocky. When Phillip's grandfather King George I died in 2023, he not only passed down the throne to his eldest daughter (Queen Katherine) but also his own collection of horses.
His favorite included 8 riding horses and 5 race horses. The late King's most prolific racehorses include Misty Moon, Beaverdam Gold, and Stampede, a white mare that helped the King win the Gold Cup at the Royal Ascot in 2009. Misty Moon has won the Ascot Gold Cup, and the Prix de Dennis in Oasis Springs.
The royal tradition has been passed down throughout the royal family.
Joan Windsor, one of Katherine's first cousins, won the silver medal in the 2016 Mt Komorebi Olympic Games, for the equestrian event representing Windenburg. Joan, daughter of Vester, Duke of Hastings, has been a title holder of the 2016 ASPCA Maclay Finals and the 2018 WEF Excellence Equitation Championships.
During the 2016 Olympics, Joan was riding King George's horse, Beaverdam Gold. Beaverdam Gold, a grayish-white horse was the first successful racehorse bred by the King himself. The late King last rode her in Trooping the Color in 2020, after which he attended his birthday parade in a carriage.
The Queen’s favorite and most prolific racehorses
Beaverdam Gold: won Windenburg the silver medal at the 2016 Mt Komorebi Olympic Games.
Misty Moon: presented to George I in 1999 by The Royal Dacanian Mounted Police. Won the 2008 Ascot Gold Cup, and the 2010 Prix de Dennis in Oasis Springs (semi-retired).
Blaze: a mare at the core of the Royal Studs’ breeding set-up.
Betina: a black-brown mare that the Queen rode in the 2000s.
Mr Magic Moon: a favorite of the Queen’s for many years.
Sunrise: the first successful racehorse bred by the Queen herself.
Midnight: a Fell pony that became one of the Queen’s favourite riding ponies.
