'That movie, That Soundtrack'
If silent film still exist my dreams would be flying at half mast, I don't know about you but I think one thing that makes a movie great is surely not only the budget allocated, the directors and other well-known underdogs working behind the scene, the distributors or studio, the actors and actress with the attractive booty, toned abs, bulging biceps, majestic chest or the sex scenes that makes a movie hit the box office. You gotta give some credits for the soundtrack, without the tracks or the score the audience won't feel the climax or the peak of the work on screen.
Which is why I've added the segment to the blog 'That movie, That Soundtrack'.
So what's the soundtrack and what that movie?
For some reason I just thought 'Radioactive' recorded by American rock band Imagine Dragons for their major-label debut EP Continued Silence and later on their debut studio album, Night Visions (2013), was not suitable for the film 'Host'.
(The Host, 2013)
A story about an unseen enemy that threatens mankind by taking over their bodies and erasing their memories, a girl will risk everything to protect the people she cares most about, proving that love can conquer all in a dangerous new world.
Featured at the end credits of the film, Kendrick Lamar later joined the group for a remix in which he mentioned 'Martian aliens' in his rap which is the only link to the film. A cool story another creation of Twilights creator Stephanie Meyer but it doesn't sound quiet radioactive.... so what film does?
(Elysium, 2013)
Firstly, Elysium is set in the year 2154, the very wealthy live on a man-made space station while the rest of the population resides on a ruined Earth. A man takes on a mission that could bring equality to the polarized worlds. Here's the thing; he takes the mission because he has no choice, he was exposed to very high radiation during an accident at work with only days to live he needs to get to the Med-bay to heal himself. An ex-con who suddenly turned into the savior for rebooting the system of Elysium bringing free health services for the poverty stricken people on earth.
Here's lyrics, its as good as it gets.
"Radioactive"
Whoa, oh, oh Whoa, oh, oh Whoa, oh, oh Whoa I'm waking up to ash and dust I wipe my brow and I sweat my rust I'm breathing in the chemicals I'm breaking in, shaping up, then checking out on the prison bus This is it, the apocalypse Whoa
I'm waking up, I feel it in my bones Enough to make my systems blow Welcome to the new age, to the new age Welcome to the new age, to the new age Whoa, oh, oh, oh, oh, whoa, oh, oh, oh, I'm radioactive, radioactive Whoa, oh, oh, oh, oh, whoa, oh, oh, oh, I'm radioactive, radioactive
I raise my flags, don my clothes It's a revolution, I suppose We'll paint it red to fit right in Whoa I'm breaking in, shaping up, then checking out on the prison bus This is it, the apocalypse Whoa
All systems go, the sun hasn't died Deep in my bones, straight from inside
I'm waking up, I feel it in my bones Enough to make my systems blow Welcome to the new age, to the new age Welcome to the new age, to the new age Whoa, oh, oh, oh, oh, whoa, oh, oh, oh, I'm radioactive, radioactive Whoa, oh, oh, oh, oh, whoa, oh, oh, oh, I'm radioactive, radioactive
Matt Damon's character Max was an ex-con, exposed to a lethal dose of radiation and did indeed start a revolution.
Hope you see why it never meant to be in Host, every scene in Elysium has Imagine dragons 'Radioactive' written all over it.
I don't know about you but I'm HOT! Radioactively hot right now, gotta get out of here.
