ok i'm overtired so take this post with a grain of salt but the main reason dead boy detectives is so dear to me, besides being very fun and campy and well-done, is that it's so clearly made through a queer lens. it's made with love for queer - specifically gay - aesthetics, people, and stories.
the last time i saw this much care put into queer stories, it was with our flag means death. and i can't even talk!! about that!! because it was dear to me too, there are so many other gay shows that just ring a little bit hollow in comparison (as much as i adore heartstopper, for example, it has its drawbacks too). edit: AND it's a genre show!!
i guess in sum, it's BY and FOR gay people, rather than just ABOUT us. and that's so rare, and so important. so i'm gonna be weird about it.
