So my dad rear ended someone really softly, but it was a truck that he rear ended with a hitch or something that damaged the grill and the bumper. Problem is, I put a total of $2700 to have transmission replaced and the engine repaired after the timing belt broke and caused damage over the last 2-3 months. It is a 2004 dodge neon and the body to these things are flimsy to begin with. I'm taking it in Monday to get it looked at better, but they said from what they could see it might be a total loss. Which means its only gonna be worth $2000. they said they have to replace the hood, the grill, and the bumper and other stuff which is **** because I know people who could fix these problems for less than $500. they aren't even visibly bad, a few dents in the places i mentioned but when i took it in they reacted like i had been in a head on collision going 50 mph. It runs perfectly, we wouldn't have even reported it except we were worried the guy might claim injury after the fact (which he did). What can I do? This is my only car, and I am already in debt from student loans. $2000 isn't gonna buy me a new car. How can I convince them not to total it when I take it in?""

So I was in a car accident recently, pretty minor, but the damage to my car exceed the value of my car by A LOT Damage total $2500. Car 91 integra, not worth 2500 anymore. The damage to the front end is a lot of cosmetic, but there is also frame damage, ac compressor broken, head lamp broken, and bald spots on the tires from me breaking so fast. First question in an accident were the at party person assumes responsibility of the car and both parties decide to not go through insurance both parties have to come to an agreeable amount right? Seems right, right. Second- If the party not at fault is not happy with the agreed amount and decided to go through insurance instead, but the damage exceeds the value of the victims car, is the responsible parties insurance going to pay out the amount of the damage done, I got 4 estimates or it the insurance going to pay only the value of the car and salvage my title? Second, can the responsible party pay out the amount that is agreed upon and then expect to get the victims (my) car in return? Or is his considered extortion? Cause there is no f-in way I the person who is not responsible for the accident can find a reliable car for 1500 bucks, but could part out, or retire my car, sell my car and get more plus the 1500 she agreed upon. I am afraid that if insurance is involved they are going to total my car out thus costy me hundreds more, then it will be worth nothing and I would not be able to retire it and get money from that or even sell it. Lastly, this person has no right to ask me for my car right, she caused the accident and is responsible for paying for that damage that she cause one way or another. I just bought a 1995 CBR F3. My first bike I got last year was a klr250, rode it since last summer all year (no car for me), even rode in the snow for the hell of it. Why is there such a discrepancy between replacement cost of my house between insurance companies?

My current homeowner's insurance has the replacement cost of my home at $189,000. I've been shopping for insurance and I've gotten estimates anywhere from $250,000 to $700,000. Other agents say I am way under-insured. When I asked my current agent why they set the replacement cost so low, the agent said that I do not have to replace it with the exact same brick Victorian house, I can get a nice modular home for even less than $189,000. My question is why there is such a variation in replacement costs between agencies and why the current broker seems to think I deserve less than I have now?""
