As much as we joke about the next divorce, the latest episodes have proved that they both have come such a far way, even from the mines. When Arthur or John mess up, they both apologize and try to stay calm. John is obviously lying but Arthur let's him.

( It is probably also because Arthur has food, shelter, hygiene, clean water and is not in hell dimension, but nevertheless-)

They are both very careful with each other, gentle, much more forgiving. Arthur doesnt raise his voice like before, or accuse John. His suspicion this time is no longer from a place of paranoia or fear, its out of love and concern. "I'm learning." John says and Arthur concedes, even if he knows something is up, because even so, John is learning and Arthur wants to help him.
