Latest project:

Did you know that the official novelization of Warrior Baek Dong-soo has a different ending, one where Yeo Woon lives?
The scene from this book where Woon and Dong-soo run hand-in-hand under a starry sky has been fan translated before, but now my friend Milliecake has translated the entire book. We’re posting bi-weekly recaps of each chapter with excerpts and commentary. There are lots of huge deviations from the show, including:
- The answer to Jin-joo’s parentage takes a very different turn
- Hong never even attempts a coup
- Everything between Chun and Gwang-taek plays out differently
- There’s no gross proposals for the girls and nobody asks Jin-joo to put down her sword
- Cho-rip was never meant to be a rotten bastard
- Ji-sun actually has lines
- And Woon’s ultimate fate? It’s never been done in fanfiction before, and it’s fabulous.
If you’re curious about all the ways in which Episode 29 really robbed us, come have a read. We’re two chapters in with 28 to go!

Today's Webtoon

For someone that likes to read webtoons, this series was so nice to watch. It gives us a window to how webtoon creation and publication works. I like the characters: artists and the PDs. Their stories ranged from sweet to sad, but it was great to see the all reached their own happiness. Even though this series is not a romantic drama, it did have its romantic touches that made it sweeter. It leaves this subplot in the opening as they accomplish their dream as a team and move on to the next collective dream. I wonder what will happen with Oh Ma Eum's relationship with Seok Ji Hyung and Jun Yeong. But even though it leaves that question open, it doesn't leave me disappointed or wanting to know what happens. I think that it just reminds us that life continues even after one chapter of our lives ends and things will happen at their own sweet time, there is no need to force things.
Work drama that will keep you smiling and cheering for the characters. Really loved it.

Excellent Actress (Monday-Tuesday drama) (Chae Soo-Bin)
Tehlikelisin git buradan. 1.derece engelli nasıl böyle yürür.” Gibi cümleler kurup sorular sordular. Bütün bu kısmı, NE OLMUŞ PROTEZİ VARSA!!! Diye isyan ederek izledim. O kadar anlamsız geldi ki, anlatamam.
Dizide birçok klişeyi de yapmayı unutmamışlar. Eskiden tanışmışlık, tesadüf diye bir şey yok karşılaşmalar, birbirinden yanlış anlamasın diye sır saklayıp yanlış anlaşılmalar. Ailevi bağlantılarda var tabi. Diğer yandan oyuncular oldukça doyurucuydu. Chae Soo-Bin’i daha önce “I'm not a robot” dizisinde izlemiş, beğenmiştim.
Tavsiye eder miyim, ederim. Her şeye rağmen güzel diziydi.

Angel Eyes (kdrama, 2014)
"Angel Eyes" tells the story of a tragic romance between Park Dong Joo and Yoon Soo Wan.
The two met as teenagers and instantly fell in love. Soo Wan is blind, so Dong Joo was her way of seeing the world. A terrible accident happens and Dong Joo's mother dies, but she wanted to help Soo Wan until the end, so they performed a cornea transplant, allowing Soo Wan to see again.
The two end up growing apart and meeting again years later. Dong Joo recognizes Soo Wan immediately, but ends up keeping his distance from her because Soo Wan already has a boyfriend, Ji Woon. Dong Joo tries to hide his feelings and his identity, but Soo Wan begins to see similarities in him with the boy from her past.
This romance is one of the best I've ever seen in a kdrama. The chemistry between Dong Joo and Soo Wan is simply tangible. The intensity of their love, their connection is wonderful. I feel sorry for Ji Woon, but there was no way I could root for him, not with Soo Wan's past with Dong Joo, they deserved to be together, to be happy together, after everything they had to overcome.
We have moments of happiness between the two, but of course the tragic truth had to come out. When Soo Wan discovers that her eyes are those of Dong Joo's mother and when she thinks that her father killed her on purpose to get those eyes, the guilt leaves Soo Wan desolate, to the point of losing her sight because she didn't want her that way. She only finally decides to move on and forget the past when she almost loses Dong Joo in an accident. Soo Wan realizes that she can't change what happened, but she can be happy and be grateful for the gift Dong Joo's mother gave her.
This drama is so beautiful, in every sense. The couple, the story, the soundtrack… I don't even have words to describe the incredible experience of watching this drama. It's unmissable.

Added trauma flavour: Parent was murdered in front of them (**Still counts if they survived the murder Parent tried to murder them Dying from seemingly incurable disease which makes their parents/guardian sad (If your parents are alive, you must pay for it by dying yourself) Adoptive parent/stepparent is THE WORST
Somehow has normal, alive parents: Lee Jun-ho (Extraordinary Attorney Woo, Has no backstory at all. We only meet his older sister and hear nothing about his childhood.) Shin Ha-ri (Business Proposal, her family is refreshingly normal, right down to her brother being sent out to find her when she's drunk) Oh Han-byeol (Sh**ting Stars, Again, we know almost nothing about her family, only that she has twin sisters. But she doesn't appear to have childhood trauma.) Park Yeon-woo (The Story of Park's Marriage Contract, her mom being annoyed at her for something that is a crime doesn't count as bad parenting) Lee Young-joon/Sung-hyun (What's Wrong with Secretary Kim, his trauma comes from a kidnapper, his parents faced a pretty impossible situation and did their best. They clearly love their kids) Baek Hyun-woo (Queen of Tears, nothing wrong with them out of the ordinary and they are in the drama a significant amount.) Ha Eun-gyeol (Twinkling Watermelon, very loving parents and the deafness and their reliance on him is not anyone's fault)
*Counting her as an orphan even though she gets her parents back after 20 years, she spent her childhood orphaned. ***This character is tricky because I understand why her mother wanted nothing to do with her, but her trying to manipulate the dad and also saying he didn't raise her properly made me so angry. ****This character is tricky because he was explicitly raised as an orphan by his grandma, his father didn't sign his birth certificate (Korean equivalent of this), and he's registered as the child of his grandmother, not his actual mom. His grandma is dead by the beginning of the series and he is living alone without family, so I think he counts as an orphan.
Uncatagorized due to lack of clarity on parents: Soundtrack #1, Hospital Playlist, Happiness
#kdramas#so many orphans#you would think that Korean children never have parents who make it to 60#if they manage to be alive they are the worst

I want a director's cut of WBDS with every single scene they left on the editing room floor. I NEED TO SEE ALL OF IT. HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO WRITE WHEN I DON'T KNOW EVERY DETAIL.

I wish they would’ve kept these scenes..^_^
